The German thriller Anatomy is a Grand Guignol display of medical horror, dwelling on dissected flesh and body organs in jars. Paula (Franka Potente, the star of Run Lola Run) is a smart young medical student with a lot of family history: her grandfather is a celebrated surgeon and her father runs a low-income medical clinic. An award-winning essay gets her into a prestigious university, known for a strict but brilliant professor of anatomy. On the train to school, Paula saves the life of a punk rocker with a heart problem--only to find this same young man on her dissecting table a few weeks later in anatomy class. Her investigations into this coincidence lead her to discover an underground society of doctors who pursue medical research at all costs, and who sometimes give interesting medical specimens a little nudge on their way to death. Despite a clunky script, Anatomy has a slick look and some gruesome moments. Potente has an engaging presence and is surrounded by a good-looking young cast. This is pretty much a German version of movies like Final Destination, Urban Legend, and I Know What You Did Last Summer, and anyone who's a fan of those flicks will find much to enjoy here as well. --Bret Fetzer

Customer Reviews:
Good but not as good as the past 2 seasons!.......2007-07-02
I enjoyed Season 3 but did not enjoy it as much as season 1 and 2. I thought the relationship between Meredith and Derek was really interesting and I liked the development of Kate Walsh as Addison. I do wish there was more scenes between Derek and Meredith and less of Sandra Oh as Christina and Isaiah Washington as Burke. I am so glad he is leaving! We will see what happens in Season 4, but I will not stop watching the show and can't wait to see what happens with George, Izzy, and Callie!
Disappointing.......2007-06-26
I have been a HUGE fan of this show since the beginning. Season Three was the biggest disappointment. Meredith was annoying, Izzie pissed me off continually (and she is usually my FAV character), they introduced the Addison spin-off which I don't think I'll watch because I like her on Grey's and wish she would stay. I'm trying to review this without spoiling the plot for those who haven't yet seen it.
The season finale was depressing. And not the good-depressing like the end of Season Two. This one just basically caused me to lose hope in the characters and in the story. Will I keep watching? Yes (yet reluctantly, I'm sad to say). There's a part of me that hopes next season redeems itself. But this season was such a downer and really annoyed me more than anything. I wouldn't buy it.
The worst season of all.......2007-06-12
I'm a huge fan of TV series and this year with big dissapointment I saw Grey's Anatomy go from good to bad to the worst tv I saw the all year. Even Lost who was not good at first ended in a superb way.
I do not reccomend it for buying, pain enough was to watch it on TV .
The Greatest Grey's of them all!.......2007-06-11
I've been an avid watcher of this wonderful show since it began as a summer fill-in not too long ago. And ever since then, Shonda Rhimes and her fabulous crew have doled out fantastic shows week after week. All the actors, from Ellen Pompeo to Sara Ramirez and Patrick Dempsey and the immensely delightful Sandra Oh, bring their characters to life. They make thursday THE must see TV!!!!
(SPOILER ALERT)-The ONLY thing that bothered me was the whole Izzy-George-Callie love triangle. I can't see George being the unfaithful husband and Izzie as the other woman. Especially when Izzie was depressed, sullen and zombie-like for nearly the whole season due to the death of her beloved Denny. And now the writers have her head over heels in love with George? Izzie deserves someone that isn't bound to another woman! I don't quite understand where they are trying to go with that particular storyline. Callie loves her husband but apparently he is in love with someone else besides herself. But if you all faithful Grey's fans remember, Callie's mega-bucks father (played by Rene Elizondo) threatened to harm George if he ever hurt Callie. I predict we will see more of him in season 4. This isn't over yet!
This Grey['s] is anything but dull.....the most colorful yet............2007-06-10
For this, my review of the third season of GREY'S ANATOMY, I'm not going to spoil your experience with a lot of plot details. I will say that the whole crew--everyone from Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) to Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) go through great evolutions during the course of these episodes. For starters, Izzy (Katherine Hegl) must make her decision how to move on from heartbreak and get on with her life. Of course, this struggle is a universal theme for all of the interns and doctors at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital. There has been plenty of buzz about the actors, out of character, and in the media, these past few months, as well as speculation about GREY'S ANATOMY'S continuity, and the spin-off series set to start this fall. I won't lie to you and tell you I know any details about either the future of the show, nor the new series.
To answer some questions here. Is the writing up to snuff? Yes, I believe it is. Let's put it this way. There is plenty of sickness on this show, but a lot of it is anyone's but the patients. Neurosis, depression, childhood trauma and trust issues rear their ugly head. Personal life intersects with professional life, and the line between them becomes increasingly blurred. No one is right and everyone hurts, yet, the dramas are more intelligently orchestrated and written than any soap opera I have seen on television. That's what makes GREY'S stand apart from many programs out there, today. What's more, the acting is solid, beautiful and totally believable (even when the characters are put in the eye of many unbelievable storms). This is definitely worth a look (or two).

The medical drama's second season could be diagnosed as bipolar; in other words, it got much worse and much better at the same time. Whiny, self-involved surgical intern Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), arguably the weakest spot in the otherwise likeable ensemble, had already left viewers annoyed. But season two, in which Meredith coped with being dumped by her married McDreamy (a.k.a. neurosurgeon Derek, a.k.a. Patrick Dempsey) by excessive drinking, sleeping around, gazing like a sad puppy and--unforgivable!--breaking the heart of longtime admirer/friend George (the cuddly T.R. Knight), could have alienated audiences for good. (Seriously, sometimes you want to shake the girl and feed her some cookies.) Thankfully, what Meredith's storyline threatened to derail was held together by some emotional episodes, including "Into You Like a Train," in which a pair of strangers are impaled together on a metal pole, and "Much Too Much," featuring a mother's quintuplets in critical condition. But the standout show that turned Grey's Anatomy into a television force came with the January 2006 post-Super Bowl episode, a two-parter involving a "code black" lockdown when a live bomb is housed inside a patient.
Romance also remained key to the staff at Seattle Grace: Steely Cristina (Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh) softens, to her great dismay, as her relationship with Dr. Burke (Isaiah Washington) gets serious; Izzie (Katherine Heigl) pairs up, then breaks up, with Alex (Justin Chambers, the villain of the cast if you had to name one) before falling in love with flirty, tender heart patient Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Derek and estranged wife Addison (Kate Walsh, who somehow managed to win over Meredith-McDreamy fans despite being the Other Woman) make attempts at fixing their marriage, and Dr. Bailey (Chandra Wilson, easily a standout) tries to balance a medical career with mommyhood. Even George finds a new love with orthopedic surgeon Callie (Sara Ramirez). The season wraps up with a weeper of a two-part finale, set at the hospital during a "prom" (it's complicated). But with the fancy gowns and tuxes, tears and romantic tension, leading to a crossroads for Meredith and Derek, you can bet the episodes are a delight for any Grey's fan. The show also continues to rely heavily on narration (not a good thing) and soundtracks (a good thing), using tracks from artists before they hit it big (KT Tunstall, Brandi Carlisle, Snow Patrol).
On the DVD
Four of the episodes get an extended treatment, though the tag line "too steamy for television!" is overreaching a bit. Oh is the only actor to turn up on a commentary, which is otherwise just the writers and producers congratulating each other. Walsh turns up the charm in "The Doctors are In," in which characters answer fans' questions, but Chambers appears noticeably drab and disinterested. Despite "Uncut" being in the title, the special features aren't anything you'll be watching again and again. Save that rewind button for the show itself. --Ellen A. Kim

Just when you wanted to say "Oh no, not another hospital drama," Grey's Anatomy turns into one of the most addicting series on television. With no big stars and no hype, the ABC series debuted last spring as a mid-season replacement and became a bonafide smash in its nine-episode season.
Watch our red-carpet interviews
with the cast of Grey's Anatomy.
High |Medium | Low |
The series, a hybrid of House's medical detectives and Dawson's Creek's hormones and catchy pop-rock soundtrack, follows five competitive surgical interns at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital. There's optimistic ex-model Izzie (Katherine Heigl), bumbling do-gooder George (T.R. Knight), competitive glacier Cristina (Sandra Oh), cocky womanizer Alex (Justin Chambers), and the show's namesake, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), whose medical career is complicated by her famous surgeon mother who now lives with Alzheimer's, and her frowned-upon relationship with another surgeon, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey, enjoying the best career revival since Rob Lowe). The doctors juggle romance and foster friendships while trying not to stab each other in the back over surgeries.
Grey's Anatomy's first season, while entertaining, went a little far trying to find its groove, overdosing on Meredith's overly simplistic voice-overs ("At the end of the day
faith is a funny thing"), and musical montages. It has the usual trappings of a hospital drama (unusual cases, such as the patient with the 70-pound tumor, and trysts in the on-call room), but with more warm fuzzies and light touches. (Sometimes, a little too light--the opening credits sequence features an eyelash curler next to medical instruments and red-painted toes savorting with a male patient under a sheet)
Pompeo, who can sound just like Renee Zellweger if you close your eyes, is likeable but not strong enough of a presence compared to her co-stars. Luckily the quirky dialogue and stellar acting by the ethnically diverse cast, particularly by Chandra Wilson (Dr. Bailey, aka "the Nazi") and Oh, who won a Golden Globe for best supporting actress, more than make up for it. The DVD covers the first season's nine episodes, plus commentary on the pilot and a behind-the-scenes feature. --Ellen A. Kim

Can't say enought about this purchase. My favorite show...still need season two.
A liitle hokey, but a lot of fun.......2007-05-12
I've read some reviews that call it a soap opera posing as high drama. and I can't disagree, but I think it is very well done. The characters are well defined, warts and all, and they stay in character despite the grueling pace of their jobs. Each episode is very well plotted and the medical problems and procedures are believable and involving. Although the sex lives of the staff seem a litle too casual and open, that may be just a reflection of my own advanced age and outdated attitudes.

Yoga for a Strong and Healthy Back presents the fundamentals of posturing and breathing in this approachable 40-minute workout that includes two 20-minute sessions focusing on spinal rotation and muscular strength. The back is central to supporting all movements; conventional workouts often do not include exercises that strengthen the lower back. Yoga Zone gives excellent instruction here, and participants are taught poses that utilize both the lower and upper back. The warrior pose and forward bends are just a few of the postures performed here that can improve spinal flexibility and help to avoid future back injuries. Beginners should find the first set easy to follow (the postures within this section are modified versions of what is yet to come). The second set incorporates some back bends and deeper poses that require greater agility and strength. Despite the increased difficulty here, participants of all levels can improve their flexibility without being overwhelmed by impossible poses. Filmed in Jamaica, the content in this progressive workout is surpassed only by the white-sand beaches in the background. This regimen includes great information, cuing, and scenery--not to mention how relaxed you can feel after an intensive yoga experience like this. --Olivia Voigts
Customer Reviews:
Not what I expected.......2007-04-10
I have a L5 herniation in my back along with desiccation of the disc. Needless to say I was looking for some relief after continual "back attacks". I got myself an inversion table an after 1 month about 80% of the pain was gone. Looking for the final 20% eventually led me to Yoga
Reading the reviews on Yoga Zone convinced me that this was the best one for lower back pain. Never having done Yoga I was a bit nervous after reading about all of the difficulty and soreness that many were experiencing.
To my surprise I found this not to be the case. In fact I believe the exercises are a bit too easy and don't target the back as much as I had hoped. In my experience exercises such as the superman pose and other stretches seem to do a better job for me. Having said that perhaps your experience will be different as every back ailment IS different.
The video itself is topshelf in terms of production with gorgeous scenery and pleasant instructors. More importantly it focuses on the task at hand and spares us new age hokum.
Really good video.......2007-03-12
After too many strenuous days of skiing, I got hit by lower back spasms, which shocked me because I thought I was in fairly good shape. I go to the gym and work with weights, I ski in winter, bike in summer. I do frequent stretch routines. So my sudden back problem threw me for a loop! My chriopractor helped, and as it turned out, he's very into Yoga and suggested some yoga poses which helped a lot. This led me to search for yoga DVD's that are back specific and I figured at this point in my life (I'm 57), Yoga might be a good addition to the mix of exercise. Since there weren't many back specific DVDs, I got this one and found that I like it a lot. The two sessions are only 20 min. each, which allows me to sneak in a session here and there whereas a longer, more involved program would be less easy to make routine. None of the exercises were extreme for a beginner, and were done with 2 people, one of which would often point out things and modifications on the other one as the pose was being done. Directions were easy and clear....after watching this a couple of times I think you would then remember and be able to follow directions without keeping an eye on the TV constantly. After the pose was explained, comments on how you could modify the pose to be easier were given. Douglas, on the 2nd session, has a very clear, calming voice and his explanations and comments were very good and to the point, very useful and clarifying.
The Jamaica ocean beach setting on the 2nd session was especially wonderful, and I could almost imagine myself there doing yoga on the beach as well. I found the whole DVD was low key and quite relaxing. Oddly, I don't recall a thing about the music...so I'd say at least it wasn't distracting. Maybe I was enjoying the beach scene too much to notice the music.
The key with this or any other such DVD is to be regular with it and give it a chance to work. And if you are new to Yoga, follow the instructor comments about how to do the various poses. As I said, none of them are anything that requires expertise or a high level of fitness or yoga experience, but that certainly doesn't mean they don't have an effect. The harder ones can easily be modified in the beginning as necessary.
One thing many people complain about is that yoga DVDs are often slow and boring. I used to think that too, but now I'm finding this slow pace quite relaxing and enjoyable. I plan to take a little trip to the Jamaica beach and do this DVD every day and I'll report back about how successful it is in rehabbing my back. So far so good.
I Love the Yoga Zone.......2007-02-22
This dvd is great for someone who doesnt have 1 full hour to do yoga, it has two 15 minute sessions and since I have been doing it, my back pain has been greatly relieved! Easy to do poses and great for someone with chronic back pain.
Good, but short.......2007-02-19
The pace and poses are good with a level of effort ranging from beginner to intermediate. However, the DVD is short on content. There are only two sessions (about 20min each) and there should be at least four. Unfortunately, there seems to be no other DVDs targeting the lower back, so by default, this is the best shot.
This is not a beginner's yoga practice.......2007-02-17
As someone who has been doing yoga for about a year and a half, I am an advanced beginner. I also have had chronic back problems my whole life. I felt I should write a review of this DVD because it was surprisingly challenging to me.
Other reviewers have written to "take it easy" with this DVD. I would also caution that. But I would go even further: if you are NOT young and in good shape, this may not be the best yoga practice for your "bad back".
I think it also moves a bit too quickly for those who have back backs. I have hurt myself repeatedly in yoga, even though I am quite flexible, when poses move quickly. Having enough time to really be in touch with ones' body, I think, is essential when one is dealing with a pain issue.
This DVD is well presented and because of that I give it 3 stars. If it was NOT billed as "Yoga for a Strong and Healthy Back" I may have given it 5 stars. But I think that it's title is a bit of a misnomer.
If you are young and in good shape, I think it will help prevent back problems, but if you are dealing already with back problems and don't already have a strong yoga practice, I'd stay away from it.
Again, as I've written in other reviews, my opinion, is highly subjective (and the same goes for all reviewers).

The Gene Kelly Collection is an unbeatable selection of DVDs showcasing the marvelous Gene Kelly, the Pittsburgh kid whose ballet shoes burst with muscle and ambition. Singin' in the Rain (1952) is everybody's favorite musical, a sarcastic spoof of the early days of talking pictures directed by Kelly and longtime collaborator Stanley Donen. (Ah, the joys of DVD: to be able to zap into the blissful title number or Donald O'Connor's "Make 'Em Laugh" at the touch of a button. Plus, the 2002 special edition is exceptional.) An American in Paris (1951), a dream project for Kelly and director Vincente Minnelli, is at its best in its glorious Gershwin numbers. Kelly's lengthy fantasy ballet, drenched in all the Technicolor MGM could muster, may have you thinking that this, after all, is why movies were invented.
Kelly and Donen forced MGM to let them shoot on location in New York for the exteriors of On the Town (1949), the movie that took musicals into the open air (and remained Kelly's favorite of his films). The spirited dancing and the wisecracking Comden-Green script make this an ebullient tale of three sailors on a 24-hour leave. The choreography plays multiple variations on the triangular team of Kelly, Jules Munshin, and a still-gawky Frank Sinatra. Finally, Gene Kelly: Anatomy of a Dancer (2002) is a terrific American Masters documentary, with oodles of superbly chosen (mint condition) film clips and interviews with many of Kelly's friends and colleagues. The emphasis is on how Kelly changed the image of the male dancer, complementing the aristocratic Fred Astaire with a more blue-collar, regular-Joe approach. It's an unblinking portrait, acknowledging the taskmaster behind the pearly grin. Those revelations make perfect sense when you see the astonishing dances: how could anyone this great not be a perfectionist? --Robert Horton

Great classics.......2007-05-08
Movies for all ages even the little one liked the music and dance
Gene Kelly Collection.......2007-01-18
For all Gene Kelly lovers, this is a great collection to watch and own. He is one of the two masters of the dance/musical genre (Fred Astaire being the other). The dance sequence in "Singing in the Rain" gives me goosebumps everytime I watch it. They don't make 'em like that anymore. Also the documentary On the Town/Anatomy of a Dancer was very interesting. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
The Best Musical Ever.......2006-11-24
The first time I saw Singing in the Rain I wanted to see it over and over agin. It was the most greatest musical and romance movie I ever seen. I loved the movie so much that I really really want to watch it again. it is the best black and white movie I ever saw. the last time I saw the movie it was on channel 13 or (Kera). I liked to watch the musical part the most, it's the best part. I hope I could see the movie again on Kera channel.
I Love Gene Kelly!.......2006-07-15
I grew up with Gene Kelly performances and so this box set is wonderful. "Singin' on the Rain" is one of his classics, as well as one of his best performances. "On the Town" and "An American in Paris" are suberb too, highlighting Kelly's different strengths. I especially liked "Anatomy of a Dancer" though because it shed light on Kelly's life that I did not know. As such I grew to respect him and his work even more. I highly recommend it for Gene Kelly followers and musical lovers alike!
It could be better.......2005-09-22
The sound track for "On The Town" didn't work at all. The sound track for the other two was very uneven. Too loud, then too soft. Apparently it was still at theater levels. That should be easily repaired.
These wonderful movies are worth a re-do.

Otto Preminger turned this 1959 courtroom drama, based on the popular novel, into terrific adult drama. James Stewart stars as a small-town lawyer who defends an army officer (Ben Gazzara) accused of murdering a bartender who assaulted his wife (Lee Remick). The taut script, large performance by Stewart, and then-daring elements of the story (words like "panties" are spoken in the context of discussing a sex crime) give the action a certain immediacy--which you don't find very often in today's movies about jurisprudence. Nice work by Remick and Gazzara, as well as George C. Scott, Arthur O'Connell, and real-life judge Joseph N. Welch, who plays the judge in this film. A very good experience all around. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
Anatomy of a Murder.......2007-06-25
Preminger's crackling courtroom drama makes for a twisty, racy, irresistible film. Stewart is in his element as the dogged Biegler, but junior players Gazzara, Remick and Scott are every bit as good. Gritty atmosphere and a smoky Ellington score (with Duke himself in a rare on-screen appearance) help make this daring, distinctive picture hum.
Snoozefest.......2007-05-20
This movie is a 2 hour and 40 minute snoozefest. After reading the other reviews here, the only conclusion that I can come to is they must have reduced the price of crack.
I literally kept falling asleep while watching this, and my wife kept waking me up. We wanted to shut it off but we'd invested so much time into it already, we felt that we had to sit through it to the end.
There is one of those rare films that has no redeeming qualities. No, there was one. I got to see Orson Bean, who used to be on To Tell the Truth, in a movie role.
Superior! .......2007-03-28
"Anatomy of a Murder" is a solid courtroom drama set in the rural Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Shot in stark black and white, AM has an ominous aura from the opening scene. Ben Gazzara is an Army lieutenant who kills the bar owner who supposedly raped his wife (Lee Remick). There is no question who committed the murder, only if the act was defensible. Also in doubt is who is telling the complete truth, who deserves sympathy-or punishment- or even if an actual rape occurred. How consensual was Remick? That Remick is neither the most sympathetic of victims nor Remick/Gazzara the most upstanding couple add to the mystery. The pair is not to be confused with Ozzie and Harriet! Jimmy Stewart is the small town lawyer who agrees to defend Gazzara. JS bases his case on the slippery premise of temporary insanity. AM soon enough turns into a duel between Jimmy and hot shot mouthpiece George C. Scott-brought up from the "big town" of Lansing to prosecute BG. The in court duel between the lawyers is as good as will be found on any silver screen, as is the out of court scramble to produce witnesses and gather evidence. Listen to the infections in Stewart's voice! This reviewer was initially leery of the 160 minute run time, but length is not an issue here. Viewer interest is certain to be maintained. (According to an old "Variety" review, Director/Producer Otto Preminger insisted on releasing AM quickly, leaving no time to edit or cut). The supporting cast is outstanding, notably Arthur O'Connell and Eve Arden playing Stewart's assistants. AM received Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor (Stewart), Best Supporting Actor (Scott and O'Connell) and Best Adapted Screenplay- all to no avail. 1959 was the year of "Ben Hur". Tom O'Neil's "Movie Awards" states "the Oscar runways were greased for "Ben Hur". Cynics will love AM. Guilt or innocence is highly subjective here. The final scene with Stewart and O'Connell in the trailer camp where Remick and Gazarra lived is a gem. It captures the ambiguity of AM perfectly. On a final note, the black and white format is a huge part of the movie. "Anatomy of a Murder" is one more example of why old b&w movies should never be colorized.
Top courtroom film.......2007-03-11
This film is one of the best of its kind. Excellent courtroom and small town drama. Both the cast and the directing could not be better. The characters are vey well developed and the add to the rising of the drama. I would not want to single out a perfomance from any of the actors as all of them act in manner that compliments each others perfomance.
The topic of this film is controversial, if the woman was raped or not, and the director "plays" with it so to keep the viewer even more interested.
Five star film.
Welcome to the Law, appearing nightly in Amiguity, Shaded while Illuminated.......2007-02-11
This is a great, great, classic American film, in the truest Hollywood sense, a stand up film that holds up generations later. Combining excellence from all aspects of the production, it's relevence as a story-both in sheer fundamental formalism and subjective psychological, legal realism-emphasizes it's essential artistry.
The appeal of a show like Law & Order lies in it's unification of the formula and the particular circumstances of that week, impelling our complex society as a mirror unto itself, and a film like Anatomy of a Murder succeeds in this and by drawing itself in shades of gray under cloudy skies against the rigors of law.
James Stewart, Lee Remick, George C. Scott and Joseph N. Welch are great here. Great performances that propell the murder trial of an Army Lieutenant who killed a bar owner who the Lieutenant's wife (Remick) says raped and beat her. That's all I feel is necessary to say about the plot. See this for it's technical and envigorating fleshing out of the tale, executed beautifully.
I knew in the first eight minutes that this was a classic, (the legendary Saul Bass' title sequence almost guaranteed it.) Whether the performances, the cinematography, the amazing score by Duke Ellington (who makes a cameo as a band leader, Pie Eye), the crisp courtroom dialogue, in particular between Stewart and Scott, or Remick's ambiguous tramp/femme fatale....
A note of note: Joseph N. Welch, who is terrific as the out-of-town judge, was the lawyer for the Army during the Army-McCarthy hearings of 1954, particularly famous for rebuking Senator McCarthy; "Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?"
Five years after that, what with the maniacal onus of Otto Preminger, a film like this illuminated the significance of law, as the site where the infintely complicated lives of individuals are wrung through the system we've established to buffer ourselves as we progress into the abyss.

Transcendently funny.......2007-05-10
The review by displacedhuman accurately describes the plot. No description, however, can adequately convey how hilarious this movie is. All of the action takes place in the swank apartment of the protagantist, who is ultimately reduced to admiting that the idiot he has invited to dinner has human qualities that cannot be vouchsafed. On the way to this realization, though, our poor hero is betrayed again and again by the stupidity of his idiot. The pinnacle comes when the idiot's workmate (who else?) discovers who's wife is sleeping with whom. Worth twice the price Amazon is charging.
Guess Who Is Coming To Dinner.......2007-04-16
A group of well-to-do snobbish and obnoxious professionals have dinner parties every Wednesday to which each of them is required to bring an "idiot" as a guest. The victims have no idea that they are invited merely to be humiliated and their boorish "sponsors" compare their notes later to determine whose "idiot" was the best. Pierre Brochant( Thierry Lhermitte), the smug publisher thinks that he's got a winner in the tax accountant François Pignon (Jacques Villeret, sadly passed away in January 2005 - great French Comedian whose performance in "Robert and Robert" I enjoyed very much) who reproduces the famous landmarks with the matchsticks and would talk about them with never ending enthusiasm. Unfortunately for Pierre (but fortunately for us, the viewers) he throws his back just before the dinner and has to rely to Pignon's sincere generosity. The tables are turned and look who is an idiot after all...
With the modest running time of 80 minutes, the "Dinner Game" is a delightful and very funny comedy. I would not expect anything else from Francis Veber, the director of Le Jouet, (1976) aka The Toy , La Chèvre, (1981) aka Knock On Wood, Les Compères, (1983) ... aka ComDads, and Les Fugitifs, (1986) and the writer for Le Grand blond avec une chaussure noire, (1972) ... aka The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe.
4.5/5
The Dinner Game (Le Diner de Cons).......2007-03-20
This is by far the funniest French movie ever released (at least in my humble opinion). This comedic masterpiece is the result of an extremely well written script where the comedy arises from the different situations and the sequence of events rather than from slapstick or clowning comedy that produces an instantaneous laughter gratification that is forgotten afterwards.
The movie was meant to be watched and understood in its original language to truly be enjoyed. Although the movie has English subtitles, you will not like it as much if you do not understand French well.
"OUI" enjoyed this delightful French fare!.......2007-03-09
My husband and I recently ordered this French farce from the AMAZON menu and thoroughly enjoyed it. Although the DVD's length is barely 90 minutes, the film's plot is fully-developed and well-paced. If you want a good laugh, you will discover "The Dinner Game" to be a tasty treat! If you still hunger for another helping of French comedy cuisine after sampling "The Dinner Game", try "The Closet". "The Closet" is another amusing entree featuring many of the same actors as "The Dinner Game".
The innovative, bitter and irreverent French humor!.......2007-03-02
The innovative freshness and powerful creativity of Francis Weber at the moment to choose original scripts is something that nobody can discuss. He was born with that clinical eye to pay special attention around the multiple connections between ingenuity, trickery, cheats seen under new perspectives.
In a globalized world, as you and me figure out, Weber has found and developed his personal contribution enriching, enhancing and expanding the universe of the humor in its countless possibilities of expression.
Dinner game is in this sense, not only a daredevil proposal around those minor sins and hence he has achieved to show those evident smart and effective monkey business in the great tradition of the great literary tradition of classic and irreverent writers, of caustic nature such as Beaumarchais, Moliere or Voltaire.
Don' t miss this provocative, imaginative and funny film. One of the best of the nineties, if not the best.

Great Yoga Practice.......2007-05-13
This is a wonderful DVD. I had been hesistant to use DVDs for my yoga practice, as I have always preferred to do my practice with a group of people. But Baron Baptiste's DVDs have provided me with the perfect alternative since I don't have a lot of yoga options in the town that I currently live. I use this DVD and Unlocking Athletic Power, both of which were filmed live, and provide a great visual for modifying postures. Baron's descriptions of the postures, and soothing voice make for a great practice. After only 3 weeks I feel stronger, and with less joint and muscle pain that I was feeling before. These practices are only a 1/2 hour long, so I'm able to start my day with the practice without having to get up an hour or two early. Its a great way to clear one's head and make for a fresh start for the day. I highly recommend these DVDs.
Great Core Workout.......2007-05-13
I really like Baron Baptiste! He was one of the first to do Power Yoga and he has made it accesible to everyone.
He moves very fast during the salutations but it is not hard to get into the flow and it does warm up the body.
My regular pracitce is now Kundlaini Yoga, thanks to Ana & Ravi, but this is great to do once or twice a week to get my Power Yoga fix!
Good short routine for inbetween ;-).......2007-01-05
A few words about myself so you can judge easier if my opinion might be helpfull for you: I'm into Power Yoga since about 6 Years, I practice every day and teach Power Vinyasa Yoga at a local Hotel Spa Fitness Club.
I personally prefer physically demanding Flow Routines challenging strength but still contributing to all the aspects of Yoga.
Beeing german my spelling is far from perfect, sorry for that!
About the DVD:
This is one more of Barons good short programms for the days inbetween when you can't practice 60 to 80 Minutes. It is 30 Minutes long and has a focus on the muscels of the Stomach and Back. It is still a complete Programm featuring Sunsalutations ( only A) and some twists and streches. The programm leaves you warm and energized but is not to hard to do. It will challange the Abs and the back but wont leave you exhausted.
It's a good programm for the morning. I highly recommend all of Barons short Routines since every one is somewhat different, aswell as his longer Programms. Baron is a very skilled, gentil and encouraging teacher giving his students a lot of important information in a calm and soothing manner. The Music of Krishna Das was a great pick for the Background.
A nice flow practice (ones again tis is true for all his programms) with beautifull Yoga Chant music. What else can a Yogi ask for?
I hope this was helpfull to you!

Great!.......2006-07-30
I highly recommend this for beginners. A very good ab workout and it improves flexibility. Very easy to follow.
Similar to other DVD's, great for quick yoga.......2006-02-22
My husband and I love all of Baron Baptiste's yoga videos. I have taken several ashtanga yoga courses and I am very picky about my workout. Baron uses yoga terminology and is very good at explaining the movements and modifications. I highly recommend any of his DVD's. Core Power is very similar to some of his other DVD's but it is a condensed version. My husband likes it when he is short on time.

Pilates DVD.......2007-06-28
This is a GREAT workout! You can stop whenever you want but if you do the full hour, you will feel really great. There are modifications demonstrated by a second girl so that you have some choices!
I'm an inch taller already!.......2007-03-17
Just kidding! But after doing this workout, I feel an inch taller. Most "core" workouts focus on strengthening the abdominal muscles and neglect the other core muscles - namely the back and butt. "Abdominals and Back" lives up to its name; after doing the workout for the first time last night I can really feel my lower back muscles (in a good way).
Karen is a great instructor; she explains exactly how to do each move and is very encouraging. My other Pilates routines are 20 minutes, so I was a bit daunted by doing a 50 minute routine but the time flew by. And as another reviewer commented, Karen's figure and form are inspirational.
I'm confident that this workout will strengthen my back for sports and weightlifting.
I really like it........2007-03-16
I think that this video is absolutely great for those of us who wish to combine our regular exercise routine with a different element, such as Pilates. It definitely takes some getting used to, but once you get the hold of it, it is challenging and relaxing. The music is flowy and contemporary and Karen's directions are delivered with inesteemable accuracy. Plus, Karen's and her assistant's, Sarah, strength, flexibility and grace are worthy of emulation. As you may judge by my score, I highly recommend it.
Strengthen the Powerhouse.......2007-02-12
Are you looking for a workout to strengthen the "powerhouse" area of your body? That area from which all movements should begin. Karen has designed this beautifully and as you zero in on your abdominals, you also focus on strengthening your back.
This is a 50-minute ALL-floor workout. You alternate between abdominal sculpting and simple back-strengthening and stretching moves to create a more balance and stable center. Karen combines the teachings of Joseph Pilates, yoga, and ballet with her own body-sculpting techniques.
"Imagine your body, no matter its shape, having the posture, lightness and elegance of a dancer." ~Karen Voight
This will help you create a more stable center. You will find yourself sitting up taller and this particular video left me lying on the floor watching the second half because after you finish this workout, you know you have worked out.
There is a small bonus section which shows how you can incorporate the Resist-a-Ring into your workout. I didn't find that part of the video that appealing as there was no music and you would have to remember how to do all the moves. It might be useful for those who are very experienced with the moves Karen has developed. I would have rather seen them incorporated into the video in a more organized fashion.
For this workout you will only need a yoga mat and a towel. This helps to give you enough padding if you are working on a carpeted surface. Karen does sell a body reform mat if you are working out on a hard floor.
If you love this workout, you will also enjoy Core Essentials and Total Body Training. They are all great fun and really motivate you with a great combination of creativity and enjoyable music.
I feel completely relaxed after doing any of the Body Reform workouts. They have a wonderful balancing effect on my emotions and my mind seems to be free of distraction. As if the cares of the world just drift away with Karen's magical calming voice.
You will just love some of these moves if you work on the computer all day. It is amazing how tight your shoulders and chest can become. This workout will open out your chest and stretch that tired back.
Definitely Intermediate in some exercises, but mostly this is for anyone. There is one move, you might want to consider skipping. It is the one where you are raising your back off the floor and you then raise one leg up into the air. It is tricky, tricky. I would not recommend it for anyone who is not practicing yoga on a regular basis!
This girl knows how to get you motivated. Just looking at her body makes me wish I had her motivation! She is just amazing. I can't wait for more Karen Videos. I want them ALL! And I am dying for her to make a really long and wonderfully relaxing stretch video. The one I have is good, but I would love to see her do a really creative outdoor video with tons of stretching. Something that would just help you drift away.
If you enjoy this workout, look for The Method workouts. They have
similar movements and are a bit more advanced and intense.

great DVD.......2007-06-08
very nice DVD, so complete and very good quality images and sounds. Very interesting the explanations that Neil Peart gives in his compositions of "drum Solo".
awesome and instructional.......2007-05-14
Very informative on the structure of the solo; breaks it down to the origins of the many different styles, rythyms, and themes that are applied. He does this in a humble manner. VERY FUN TO PLAY ALONG TO and exciting to watch! The most fun I've ever had with an instructional video. Buy it.
Neil is the best.......2007-01-27
I'm not a drummer but love drum solo's and Rush. Coming from a fan who's favorite band has been Rush since the 70's, saying this is a great DVD may be colored. However, the DVD is worth the cost just for the videos on DVD 2 of the concert drum solo's, especially Frankfurt and Tom Sawyer. I have the Rio DVD and like this one better (cameras jump around too fast in Rio). This won't show you how to be a great drummer but it will inspire you to try hard. He has always been a perfectionist in his drumming and lyrics so no surprise that his solo's are so good. If you like Rush or just like drumming, this is well worth the price.
Anatomy of a Drum Solo - Neil Peart.......2007-01-16
EXCELLENT!!! Not only for RUSH fans, but especially instructive and inspiring for any drummer/percussionist either starting out or already a professional.
Neil Peart is Inspirational.......2007-01-10
Neil Peart's drum playing is so good he inspires you to do better. The DVD is insightful and offers techniques to improve anyone's ability. Watching his solos is amazing.
