PURE JUNK,THESE MOVIES ARE IN SUCH POOR SHAPE THAT YOU CAN'T WATCH THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-06-27
THE COPIES THEY USED TO TRANSFER THESE MOVIES MUST HAVE BEEN PULLED FROM A FIRE IS ALL I CAN THINK AS I WATCHED(OR TRIED TO WATCH I SHOULD SAY) THESE MOVIES. YOU CAN FIND BETTER COPIES OUT THERE SO LOOK FOR THEM!!!!!!!!! STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Poor sound and picture quality.......2005-10-14
I purchased this DVD for the movie "And Then There Were None." I loved the Agatha Christie novel and wanted to see the movie. However, the sound is so difficult to understand even at high volume that I had to give up watching it. I understand and enjoy most old movies even with poor picture quality; this was the poorest one I've seen. On picture quality alone I wouldn't say this is a problematic DVD, but because it seems impossible to understand, I'd have to recommend skipping this one and finding one with restored sound. The movie itself however is probably much better than two stars; the two stars are for sound and picture quality only.
A very good collection on one DVD.......2004-11-11
This is a single sided DVD which contains three mystery/suspense thrillers. 1)'And Then There Were None'; Barry Fitzgerald, Walter Huston, Louis Hayward; 97 minutes, B&W: Based on the Agatha Christie classic, a mysterious host invites ten guests to an old house by the sea. When the quests end up being killed off one by one, terror and suspicion run amuck. Who will be next, why are they being killed off, and who is the killer? 2)'Cry Panic'; John Forsythe, Earl Holliman, Anne Francis; 74 minutes, Color: Driving through a small town, a man accidentally hits a pedestrian and kills him. In trying to get assistance with the accident, the body disappears. No one in town, not even the sheriff, is willing to admit that anything happened. What secrets are they hiding and how far will they go to protect those secrets? 3)'The Bat'; Vincent Price, Agnes Moorehead; 79 minutes, B&W; In this old dark house mystery a killer has invaded the rented mansion of a mystery novelist and her guests. One by one, the guests are being killed off as the Bat flies. What is the motive of the Bat? Is there something hidden in the mansion? And, perhaps more sinister, who is the Bat? These are three very good suspense movies. 'And Then There Were None' is one of the best among mystery movies. The quality of the DVD is good. I have a 20" TV and they look as good if not better than VHS. Among the American Home Treasures triple feature DVDs, this is the best of what I have seen. The bonus material includes filmographies of the stars, biographies, and trivia. I have just given teasers based on the jacket descriptions. The premise of mystery movies is not to know what is going to happen so you can get caught up in the mystery.-Bob

Customer Reviews:
WELL worth the extremely low price.......2006-10-22
but NOT for "In the Year 2889" which somehow escaped being camp and is just plain awful. In fact, it is probably the longest 80 minutes you will ever experience.
"Teenagers," on the other hand, is marvelous, and even well made. How'd THAT happen?
"They Came from Beyond Space" is a British effort that is kinda ok...maybe being British saves it--whatever.
Excellent Value.......2004-11-04
An excellent buy - 3 movies in one.
TEENAGERS FROM OUTER SPACE is excellent. This is a highly entertaining and memorable movie - one of my favorites for all around 50's quality sci-fi. Aliens arrive on a spaceship determined to colonize Earth with craw-dads that will grow to enormous size and become a food source. Nerdy alien teen breaks off and heads into town and takes a room in a house with an earth teen girl and GrandPa. Mean alien teen has to track nerd teen down and bring him back. Suspenseful as he almost catches up to them as they go about the town. Has a ray gun that turns people into skeletons. Car chases. Car crash off a cliff. Pushy press people. Doctor's office in a house (total 50's). The default movie cave thats been in N sci-fi movies.
IN THE YEAR 2889 is pretty good. After a nuclear war 8 people end up in an isolated valley saved by vertical convection from a warm lake that carries radiation away. Grandpa is in charge and carries a side-arm. Donna Reed's son and his brother arrive early and he falls in love with GrandPas daughter. The brother gets infected and loses his appetite - never eats but has a craving for meat, spends all his time roaming the woods looking for rabbits. Alcoholic low-life and 60's psychedelic floosy dancer girlfriend arrive and add suspense to the movie. Pervasive is the lurking outside of GrandPas son who is infected and looks like a monster and roams the woods spying on the girls as they bath in the pool. Movie is worth an hour and half every 15 years or so.
THEY CAME FROM BEYOND SPACE is not very good. Like the cars that went downhill after 1965, this is a 1967 color not very good film. English movie too. Best part is later in the film when the hero and side-kick figure out wearing a metal strainer on their heads will protect them from alien attempts to take over their brains. I saw this about 20 years ago and wouldn't waste my time on it again.
In The Year 2889/ Teenagers From Outer Space/ and more........2004-05-12
IN THE YEAR 2889...It has been thirty hours since the Nuclear attack. Everyone is gone, except for an old, grumpy, father who is protective of his teenage daughter. She fears that her boyfriend is dead. But he does show up at the doorstep with horrible radioactive burns to him. His brother (Paul Petersen, "The Donna Reed Show") who is fine stays with him. Other people begin to show up at this house too who appear to be fine. They all must avoid contamination. Who will survive?
Filmed in 1967, this film is scientifically inaccurate and is not a survival guide to actually surviving outside radiation, which does seep inside a house in real life. But this film is fun to watch. Also recommend THE DAY AFTER (1983) and TESTAMENT (1983).
TEENAGERS FROM OUTER SPACE...UFO lands on Earth. The human-like shipmates are from a planet that treats there own like slaves. They are trying to find a planet to release their Gargons. One shipmate wants to do good. He commits treason to try to stop his other shipmates from allowing Gargons on Earth. A book he has kept hidden and read (like a Holy Bible) as changed his mind to do right. He wants to do right. When his shipmates killed a dog, the good alien tells them the creature had life. This is not the place to release Gargons. His shipmates disagree. The good alien, Derek, escapes from his shipmates. He meets the people of this fine town. The bad aliens try to find Derek, but shoot other people into skeletons with a raygun.
Dvd also includes THEY CAME FROM BEYOND SPACE (1967).

Fun,Fun & More Fun.......2006-08-25
Creature Movies .. are just great camp classics from, Roger Corman. I when to the show as a kid in the early 60's & for 25 cent, I got to see two movies. Wow! I was in heaven, at that moment & yes, I saw all three at the show & love them & even now, I enjoy them as great old B-Movies & Roger, knew how to make them, cheap & fun & maded a damm good living from it. "Creature From The Haunted Cave" is fun & silly but, fun. "Beast From Haunted Cave" . I love to watch & The Wasp Woman, is Cult Classic & best of all three. So if you got time & love old Horror B-Movies from the 60's, all I can say is watch & rock on. Great price, all three on one DVD, how can miss great fun ....
none of these are oscar winners, but they have a style and they are just so much fun.......2006-04-27
roger corman was and always will be the "king of the b movies", and as his book said,he made over 200 movies in hollywood and never lost money on any of them, lets see other directors make that claim!!! what makes these movies, indeed, all of cormans movies so much fun is the fact that with little or no money he made movies that were fun to watch and fun to revisit time after time. you can sence that he was doing everything he could to make a movie that you would enjoy, and thats the charm of mr. corman,he wants you to have a good time, and if you think he didn't know that some of these movies were pure cheese then you don't get mr. corman or his movies,as most were made tounge in cheek anyway.
settle back and watch these great cheese movies and have a ball.
OK, Corman has been hailed as a genius, but................2005-10-25
These movies were simply awful. OK, The Wasp Woman wasn't all THAT bad, but Creature from the Haunted Sea was literally one of the five worst movies I have ever seen, and Beast from Haunted Cave was one of the ten worst. But all in all I did not feel cheated, since I only paid $5.98, which is less than $2/movie. So buy it if you must, but don't expect to "feel the magic", because it just ain't there. Better off to put your money toward the Ed Wood Box or a copy of Robot Monster.
Corman is A Genius.......2002-03-28
This DVD is terrific. I enjoyed all three movies, each with its own special flavor.
The Beast From THe Haunted Sea is terrifically spoofy. It pokes fun at all the spy genre and the mass hysteria during the Cold War. A bumbling undercover spy infiltrates a wacky group of smugglers with deserters from the Cuban Army thrown in for good measure. The effects are lousy, the dialogue is intentionally awful but funny and th eBeast look like the Cookie Monster with Seaweed.
THe BEast From Hacuted Cave is different, darker and not bad. It involves a criminal gang who steals some gold and tricks a heroic ski guide to take them to his cabin to hide out. During the robbery, a beast was awaken or freed by the explosion and follows the crooks and proceeds to capture them one by one. Only the heroic ski guide and the chief crook's moll excape.
Corman has a flair for the dramatic and a good sense of what kind of story he wanted to tell. Unfortunately, his skills and budgets often prevented him from achieving his goals. Corman epitomizes the adage
A man's grasp must exceed his reach
Else what's a heaven for?!
I will buy more of his works.
Corman Triple Feature.......2002-01-29
If you are a fan of Roger Corman or drive-in style campy horror, this is a great buy. All three films are scratchy, but they all deliver the needed laughs. Creature from the Haunted Sea is the most hilarious with its bug-eyed undersea monster. In his memoir, Corman says it was intentional that the Creature win in the end. Beast from Haunted Cave is not a Roger Corman film, but it's a good one from his brother Gene. Clearly making the most movie out of little money is a family tradition. The Wasp Woman is the most famous of these(surprisingly timely and relevant when one considers how often plastic surgery and radical diets make the news). You can't beat the price. I find it appropriate that you can get these movies without spending a fortune, since no one spent a fortune to make them!

poor transfers do this set in.......2007-03-29
Iknow that sets like this aren't going to look great, but this set is so bad that in some scenes you see nothing and sound drop out will drive you crazy.
I Have Seen Worse (but not too often).......2006-02-04
The Demon feature on this disc is just okay,,An occasional scare but not much plot, Lots of running around in the dark and lots of nudity,,darn little plot,,and no reason to know anything about the killer,,he is just a BIG sicko much like Halloweens mad killer..no motive just lots of killing,,DUH! I think it is supposed to be set in the USA but everyone was in cars with driver on the right hand side of car..God told me to is also okay,,a shade better perhaps than the demon,,Good Against Evil (whatever ) is a direct Rosemary's Baby rip off,,enough said,,
WORTH THE MONEY.......2004-08-09
There are three titles on this disc. Good vs Evil, God Told Me to, and The Demon.
Good Vs. Evil must have been a pilot for a tv series because it really dosen't have any closure. The quality is o.k., but nothing stellar. The story is engaging with a Exorcist scene ripp-off. I can see why this did not make a long lived series, but at the end I was left wanting to know if he succeeded.
I was suprised by God Told Me to. It's actually in widescreen and is the image is pretty sharp. The acting and story are great. It was suspenseful. I paused the DVD two times. Once when I saw Andy Kaufman as the psycho and the other when Tony Lo Bianco's hair(comb-over) is pushed about a foot off his head.
The Demon is not of stellar quality. The colors are dull and night scenes are hard to follow. The story isn't too bad and the acting decent.
This DVD is a good buy.

"Hollywood Crime Dramas ... Ultimate of Film Noir ... Passport Video".......2006-10-17
Passport Video presents "THE ULTIMATE FILM NOIR" (1945-1953), --- (Dolby digitally remastered) --- ten tantalizing tales of Film Noir on five suspenseful discs --- featuring top performances from the '40s and '50s with outstanding drama and screenplays, along with a wonderful cast and supporting actors to bring it all together ... another winner from the vaults of Film Noir Hollywood gems.
Film noir is a cinematic term used primarily to describe Hollywood crime dramas that set their protagonists in a world perceived as inherently corrupt and unsympathetic...Hollywood's classic film noir period is generally regarded as stretching from the early 1940s to the late 1950s...Film noir of this era is associated with a low-key black-and-white visual style that has roots in German Expressionist cinematography, while many of the prototypical stories and much of the attitude of classic noir derive from the hardboiled school of crime fiction that emerged in the United States during the Depression...the term film noir (French for "black film"), first applied to Hollywood movies by French critic Nino Frank in 1946, was unknown to most of the American filmmakers and actors while they were creating the classic film noirs..the canon of film noir was defined in retrospect by film historians and critics; many of those involved in the making of film noir later professed to be unaware at the time of having created a distinctive type of film.
Five-disc collector's set includes "SCARLET STREET" (1945) (95 mins/Universal Pictures), featuring Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett, Dan Duryea and Margaret Lindsay --- "DETOUR" (1945) (67 mins/PRC), featuring Tom Neal, Ann Savage, Claudia Drake and Edmund MacDonald --- "THE STRANGE LOVE OF MARTHA IVERS" (1946) (117 mins/Paramount Pictures), featuring Barbara Stanwyck, Van Heflin, Kirk Douglas, Lizabeth Scott and Judith Anderson --- "WHISTLE STOP" (1946) (85 mins/United Artists) featuring George Raft, Ava Gardner, Victor McLaglen, Tom Conway and Jorja Curtright --- "HE WALKED BY NIGHT" (1948) (80 mins/Eagle-Lion), featuring Richard Basehart, Scott Brady, Jack Webb, Roy Roberts, Whit Bissell and James B. Cardwll --- "TRAPPED" (1949) (78 mins/Bryan Foy Productions / Eagle-Lion), featuring Lloyd Bridges, Barbara Payton, John Hoyt, Russ Conway and James Todd --- "IMPACT" (1949) (83 mins/United Artists), featuring Brian Donlevy, Ella Raines, Charles Coburn and Helen Walker --- "D.O.A." (1950) (83 mins/United Artists), featuring Edmond O'Brien, Pamela Britton, Luther Adler and Beverly Campbell --- "QUICKSAND" )1950) (79 mins/Samuel Steifel Productions / United Artists), featuring Mickey Rooney, Jeannie Cagney, Peter Lorre and Barbara Bates --- "THE HITCH-HIKER" (1953) (71 mins/RKO Pictures), featuring Edmond O'Brien, Frank Lovejoy and William Talman --- and the documentary "THE BEST OF FILM NOIR".
Film noirs tend to revolve around heroes who are more flawed and morally questionable than the norm, often fall guys of one sort or another...the characteristic heroes of noir are described by many critics as "alienated"; in the words of Silver and Ward, "filled with existential bitterness."...certain archetypal characters appear in many film noirs--hardboiled detectives, femmes fatales, corrupt policemen, jealous husbands, intrepid claims adjusters, and down-and-out writers...as can be observed in many movies of an overtly neo-noir nature, the private eye and the femme fatale are the character types with which film noir has come to be most identified, but a minority of movies now regarded as classic noir feature either...crime, usually murder, is an element of almost all film noirs; in addition to standard-issue greed, jealousy is frequently the criminal motivation...a crime investigation--by a private eye, a police detective (sometimes acting alone), or a concerned amateur--is the most prevalent, but far from dominant, basic plot...in other common plots the protagonists are implicated in heists or con games, or in murderous conspiracies often involving adulterous affairs...false suspicions and accusations of crime are frequent plot elements, as are betrayals and double-crosses...amnesia is far more common in film noir than in real life, and cigarette smoking can seem virtually mandatory.
This collection of "The Ultimate Film Noir" (1945-1953) --- still has the magic that we remember from those bygone years --- but as long as we have the labels and networks who play and show these wonderful films of yesteryear, they will never be forgotten --- plus the Bonus of Best of Film Noir on the final disc --- and a great job by Passport Video for this release --- looking forward to more of the same from the '40s and '50s vintage...order your copy now from Amazon or Passport Video, stay tuned once again for more remarkable films from the vaults of classic television and Hollywood during the Golden Era of Film Noir --- All My Heroes have been Gumshoe Detectives!

Customer Reviews:
"Fukkatsu no hi" it ain't so kiss your $$$ goodbye!.......2006-04-30
I was buying something on Amazon and I was informed that for an additional $5.01 purchase I would get the free super saver shipping so I browsed the cheapie DVDs looking for something palatable and I found this DVD compilation and bought it. because of Virus or "Fukkatsu no hi" as the 3 hour Japanese version was called.
Originally I saw Virus on Showtime in the 80's it ran 2 hours 10 minutes and wasn't bad even though as I understand it an hour of Japanese scenes and dialog had been removed.. The special effects were TV quality but the storyline was good. I have been telling friends about it for years and they wanted to see it. I've searched for the original version but I only found it on Japanese websites at a cost of over $60 US. (At that exchange rate no wonder the Japanese take month long golfing vacations in Hawaii).
When the order arrived after 3 weeks and not the 10 days advertised by Amazon, my wife and I planned on watching Virus that night. What a disappointment. The picture was so dark that we had to crank up the brightness and picture quality on our 32 inch JVC to the maximum setting. I knew that there would be a major reduction in quality when compressing 6 hours onto a 4.7 GB DVD but it was degraded further because The transfer was done from a well worn print or overplayed tape.
To our further disappointment many of the more poignant scenes had been deleted. Gone were the Tokyo hospital scenes where only four nurses were left to care for the thousands of dead or dying. Gone was the scene where the Japanese Antarctic station made radio contact with a young American boy who was the only survivor in his town. All gone because the film had been cut to 107 minutes!.
We haven't watched the other two "classics" as yet. Maybe we haven't been bored sufficiently with our 500 Dishnetwork channels or maybe its because we are avoiding the inevitable. Whichever it is after we finally watch the last movies we'll use the disk as a coaster or toss it in the local Salvation Army donation bin. Either way my money is gone and when I place my next order with Amazon I'll skip the Super Saver shipping thank you very much..
i knew going in that this would be a cheese fest,so i found that i liked it somewhat.......2006-04-27
ok sure the transfers aren't very good, the movies aren't very good, and wellat least the price is right. i knew that this disc(yep, all three movies on one,one sided disc) wouldn't be very good, and the fact that i had only heard of one of the movies clued me in to the fact that i had grade a cheese in my hand. the point i guess is that i expected very little and so was happy with what i got. if you are looking for grade a movies and transfers quit buying these cheap sets, you know that they aren't going to be that great and to expect it to be great is really not very smart on your part. relax, unwind, and just sit back and watch,if you drop all the beefs about them you might enjoy these movies because some are so bad as to be funny.
Squeeze too much stuff on a DVD and the picture degrades.......2005-09-06
This DVD taught me that if you squeeze too much stuff on a dvd, the picture degrades. All three of the movies on this DVD have terrible resolution, which diminishes any opportunity for enjoyment. The resolution competes with the silly plots and terrible acting so I don't know what's worse.
Disasters, all right! Disasters of the cinema arts!.......2005-04-23
These, folks, are cheesy shows. You watch the first (Virus) and wonder how a film could be worse. But you watch the second (Hurricane) and realize that yes, it is possible to make an even worse movie than Virus. But boy oh boy, when you get to number 3 (Deadly Harvest) you realize that the impossible has been made manifest! It is also stunningly awful!
In short (the films aren't worth more than that), the productions are cheap and sleazy, the actors are off their feed (if indeed, they'd eaten from the apple of talent at all), the settings are lousy, most of the footage is stock footage, and some shots are even repeated. The scores match all of this in quality. But the DVD presentation equals the worst I have seen on the medium (a cheapo early DVD of Metropolus, where all the subtitles were trimmed off left and right). The film is grainy, they are too dark, etc. etc. etc.
The reason to own these epics? If you are an exhaustive collector of the
3 hardly known TV quality disaster films.......2004-12-13
This DVD set is definatly not the best in the world. It features three minescule entries into the disaster film genre of the 1970's. All three films are television quality, both in script and in picture. The best of these three by far is "Virus" (1980 starring Chuck Connors and George Kennedy) AKA "Day of Ressurrection" or "Fukkatsu No Hi" in Japan. The other two films are "Deadly Harvest" about a world food shortage due to the disintegration of the ozone layer or something, anyway it's really quite a bore. The film is set in the late '70's on a farm where a family has to protect their food from "city folk" who keep trying to steal it. Then there's "Hurricane" of 1974 starring Larry Hagman. This film was okay, the quality is pretty bad and the story and acting is VERY campy. There is a lot of hurricane stock footage from the 1960's-70's in it as well. "Virus" is also presented pretty poorly and this edition features the American TV version of the film that is short nearly an hour of footage, but it's still a pretty interesting film without it.
There are also some pointless special features like a Trivia section that really doesn't have a whole lot to do with the actual films shown as it does with the pretty famous actors that are for some reason in the films. And that is really all there is to say about this very unimportant set of films.

Note: This is a Britsh rendition of CIA/KGB interactions. And almost doesn't cover anything exciting..... Keep your coffee close by to watch this set of stories... Over of the different stories the last one was the best and raises the star rating from 1 to 2.

Customer Reviews:
Buy this for The Hitch-hiker and Detour.......2004-10-28
"The Hitch-hiker" is a largely forgotten and overlooked gem in the thriller/film-noir genre. It is also Ida Lupino's best directorial effort for the big screen. For years, Lupino graced the silver screen as an actress, most notably in "They Drive by Night" and "High Sierra" (both with Bogart). In the late 1940s, Lupino formed her own production company, The Filmakers with producer/writer husband Collier Young.
The movie follows a pair of war vets, Edmond O'Brien and Frank Lovejoy who get some R and R from their wives to go fishing, and sneak off to Mexicali to troll for dames along the way. As you might well guess, they pick up even worse trouble in the form of hitchhiker Emmett Myers, played with a menacing edge by William Talman.
Myers forces the two to provide safe passage in their beat-up car down the Baja California peninsula to Santa Rosalia, where he can catch a ferry to the Mexico mainland.
The ride along the way is a harrowing trip, the suspense notched up by Young and Collier's excellent screenwriting. Daniel Mainwaring adds a lot of excellent noir dialogue in his uncredited contribution.
While O'Brien gives his usual competent good guy performance, Lovejoy and Talman really make this movie. Lovejoy gives this movie its heart: We sympathize with his character when he attempts to protect and reassure a little Mexican girl when the three stop at a dry goods store to stock up on groceries. Talman plays the killer Myers a bit off-kilter, his lean, elongated figure dominating the other two, his lazy, all-seeing eye holding them hostage while Myers yet sleeps. Talman's powerful performance looks forward to Rutger Hauer's portrayal in Robert Harmon's 1984 "The Hitcher" and Dennis Hopper in most everything he's been in since "Blue Velvet."
What most rings true with "The Hitch-hiker" is Lupino's use of actual shooting locations as opposed to set backdrops, and the cinema verite feel she gives in having her Mexican actors -- most importantly, the DF trooper who hunts down Myers -- speak in Spanish, without subtitles and without caricature. It almost has a documentary feel.
But what really makes this movie gel is RKO's sterling crew, which Lupino hired to put this movie together. One of the reasons this movie has more of a 1940s than 1950s feel is the unparalleled cinematography of Nicholas Musaraca, who was cameraman for many of RKO's best productions, most notably "Cat People" and "Out of the Past" (both directed by Jacques Tourneur). Who else but Musaraca could make a workaday Plymouth sedan appear so dominating and intimidating at it looms over the lonely dirt roads of the Mexican back country?
Musaraca's use of key lighting and deep shadows to heighten the tension really have you sitting on the edge of your seat, as does Leith Stevens' brass-heavy scoring, brimming over with trumpets as a counterpart to the car's horn and string basses portending doom with what legendary movie composer David Raksin called "fifthboding."
C. Bakaleinikoff, the great unsung conductor of RKO's soundtracks, directs with his characteristic Sturm und Drang he used in "Out of the Past" and Hitchcock's "Notorious" (1946).
Sound technicians Roy Meadows and Clem Portman mix the score, sound effects and dialogue superbly, employing a rich bass and a full, robust midrange. Characteristic of 1940s and 50s sound, you can identify every line of dialogue without any neck craning. Compare that with today's special effects extravaganzas, full of Foley effects and swoosh and clang aural graituity, in which most whispers are yet barely audible. Try as they might, today's Hollywood still can't produce a film comparable in technical consistency to the old studio system.
Personally, I rank "The Hitch-hiker" in my Top 10 favorite noir movies of all time. It belongs in such august company as "Double Indemnity," "DOA," "White Heat" and "Out of the Past."
As far as "Detour" is concerned, it is a good effort by director Edgar G. Ulmer, but altogether it is not in the same league as "The Hitch-hiker." Ann Savage's nasal screech gets on my nerves after 5 minutes.
The largely forgotten "Ginger in the Morning" is so because it is largely forgetable. However, since this DVD is a cheapo, it's worth every penny for "The Hitch-hiker."
