An experimental film masquerading as a standard Hollywood thriller. The plot of Rope is simple and based on a successful stage play: two young men (John Dall and Farley Granger) commit murder, more or less as an intellectual exercise. They hide the body in their large apartment, then throw a dinner party. Will the body be discovered? Director Alfred Hitchcock, fascinated by the possibilities of the long-take style, decided to shoot this story as though it were happening in one long, uninterrupted shot. Since the camera can only hold one 10-minute reel at a time, Hitchcock had to be creative when it came time to change reels, disguising the switches as the camera passed behind someone's back or moved behind a lamp. In later years Hitchcock wrote off the approach as misguided, and Rope may not be one of Hitchcock's top movies, but it's still a nail-biter. They don't call him the Master of Suspense for nothing. James Stewart, as a suspicious professor, marks his first starring role for Hitchcock, a collaboration that would lead to the masterpieces Rear Window and Vertigo. --Robert Horton

Jump roping that's worlds away from anything seen on the local playground bursts from the screen in this Disney Original Movie about the clash between two athletes and their respective sports. Boxer Izzy Daniels (Corbin Bleu) has a hard time taking neighbor Mary's (Keke Palmer) devotion to jump roping seriously, but as Izzy trains relentlessly to maintain his undefeated status and win the Golden Glove, Mary's team practices just as intensely for the city Double Dutch finals. Izzy gains a reluctant respect for Mary's sport when he accompanies his sister Karin (Kylee Russell) to a competition, but it takes some serious convincing to persuade him to fill in for a teammate who's abandon the team on the cusp of city finals. Izzy quickly discovers that Double Dutch is more demanding and rewarding than he'd ever imagined, but when the entire school finds out about his newest sporting exploit, he's taunted into quitting. As Izzy tries to regain his boxing focus, he suddenly realizes that winning the Golden Glove is more his father's (David Reivers) dream than his own. After some serious soul-searching, Izzy decides that he can't let what others think keep him from doing what makes him happy. This action-packed Disney Channel Original Movie takes a unique look at the varied world of sports and features some great catchy new music from Corbin Bleu and Jordan Pruitt, but the game-winner is its focus on the importance of following one's heart. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

4 out of 5 stars Fast Food for the Soul.......2007-06-01

This DVD was a gift for my wife, who is one of the "Jump In" fans in this house. I don't have quite the enthusiasm for this movie that they do, which leads me to believe that it is something of a "chick flick."

A tight plot, engaging characters, and quick pace put this show several notches above "viewable."

I enjoyed the story of a boy learning how to deal with conflicting demands and responsibilities.

The jump-rope contest choreography is impressive, and helps make this DVD a good buy, although sports purists might question the fusion of jump-rope tricks and boxing in another scene.

Disney Studios seems to be re-discovering the bourgeois inhibitions that made it a global success, so those who require relevance, naughty words, and people with the self-control of an ADHD tomcat in their entertainment will be sorely disappointed in "Jump In." Aside from these deficiencies, this is a highly entertaining musical.

5 out of 5 stars I love this dvd .......2007-05-19

This dvd is awesome and the bonus stuff is just great .

5 out of 5 stars Another great family film starring Keke Palmer.......2007-05-17

I bought this because of child actor Keke Palmer appears in it and I was not disappointed. It's such a fun film with cute actors, lots of incredible double dutch scenes and a great tutorial offered in the special effects section. It's a must have!

5 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING.......2007-05-15

We are from South Africa, and the movie only came on our disney channel after we got the DVD, so my kids were pretty happ with themselves. It was a really nice movie, it was heartwarming, and i found it very touching. We even shed a few tears!!!My kids now want to do Double Dutch!!!

5 out of 5 stars fun family movie.......2007-05-12

This movie won't win any oscars, but it's great for what it is, a great family film. It's so hard to find movies that all of my children (ages 2-10) will sit down and watch and that WE feel good about them watching. This is one of those movies. Made in the same mold as High School Musical, I hope Disney continues to pump out these type of movies. They're slightly cheesy, but a refreshing change from many movies marketed today for kids.

Masterpiece indeed. With 14 films, each supplemented with numerous documentaries, commentaries, and other bonus materials, Alfred Hitchcock - The Masterpiece Collection will be the cornerstone for any serious DVD library. Packaged in a beautiful, conversation-starting velvet box, the individual discs inside come four to a case, decorated with original poster art.
No doubt opinionated fans will argue about what should fall under the rubric of "masterpiece" in Hitchcock's body of work, but with the bona fide classics Vertigo, Psycho, and The Man Who Knew Too Much, there's plenty of timeless movie magic here. Eye-popping transfers and gorgeous sound make this set one of the must-have releases of the year.

Should the Hitchcock fan have the energy for more after imbibing on the movies themselves, a bonus disc provides additional documentaries. These include a revealing interview in which the master of suspense discusses, among other things, how much he dislikes working with method actors, going so far as to name names (we're talking about you, Jimmy Stewart and Montgomery Clift). In an American Film Institute lifetime achievement ceremony, the master of suspense is praised by the likes of Stewart and Ingrid Bergman, and seems to be suffering from severe boredom as celebrities pile on the flattery. Then Hitchcock opens his mouth to accept the award, delivering an endlessly witty stream of perfect bon mots that prove once again that he was a master of high comedy as well. Revealing documentaries about the making of Psycho and The Birds round out the feast of extras. The 36-page booklet, filled mostly with stills and poster art, provides little new information about the films.--Ryan Boudinot

Films Included in Alfred Hitchcock - The Masterpiece Collection

    Saboteur
Robert Cummings stars as Barry Kane, a patriotic munitions worker who is falsely accused of sabotage, in this wartime thriller from Alfred Hitchcock. Plastered across the front page of every newspaper and hated by the nation, Kane's only hope of clearing his name is to find the real villain. The script as a whole is a clever one--Algonquin wit Dorothy Parker shares a screenwriting credit, and her trademark zingers make for a terrific mix of humor and suspense. Saboteur is a pleasure whether you're a die-hard Hitchcock fan or just someone who likes a good nail-biter. --Ali Davis

    Shadow of a Doubt
Alfred Hitchcock considered this 1943 thriller to be his personal favorite among his own films, and although it's not as popular as some of Hitchcock's later work, it's certainly worthy of the master's admiration. Scripted by playwright Thornton Wilder and inspired by the actual case of a 1920's serial killer known as "The Merry Widow Murderer," the movie sets a tone of menace and fear by introducing a psychotic killer into the small-town comforts of Santa Rosa, California. Through narrow escapes and a climactic scene aboard a speeding train, this witty thriller strips away the façade of small-town tranquility to reveal evil where it's least expected. And, of course, it's all done in pure Hitchcockian style. --Jeff Shannon

    Rope
An experimental film masquerading as a standard Hollywood thriller, Rope is simple and based on a successful stage play: two young men (John Dall and Farley Granger) commit murder, more or less as an intellectual exercise. James Stewart, as a suspicious professor, marks his first starring role for Hitchcock, a collaboration that would lead to the masterpieces Rear Window and Vertigo. --Robert Horton

    Rear Window
Like the Greenwich Village courtyard view from its titular portal, Alfred Hitchcock's classic Rear Window is both confined and multileveled: both its story and visual perspective are dictated by its protagonist's imprisonment in his apartment, convalescing in a wheelchair, from which both he and the audience observe the lives of his neighbors. Cheerful voyeurism, as well as the behavior glimpsed among the various tenants, affords a droll comic atmosphere that gradually darkens when he sees clues to what may be a murder. At deeper levels, Rear Window plumbs issues of moral responsibility and emotional honesty, while offering further proof (were any needed) of the director's brilliance as a visual storyteller. --Sam Sutherland

    The Trouble with Harry
A busman's holiday for Alfred Hitchcock, this 1955 black comedy concerns a pesky corpse that becomes a problem for a quiet, Vermont neighborhood. Shirley MacLaine makes her film debut as one of several characters who keep burying the body and finding it unburied again. Hitchcock clearly enjoys conjuring the autumnal look and feel of the story, and he establishes an important, first-time alliance with composer Bernard Herrmann, whose music proved vital to the director's next half-dozen or so films. But for now, The Trouble with Harry is a lark, the mischievous side of Hitchcock given free reign. --Tom Keogh

The Man Who Knew Too Much
Alfred Hitchcock's 1956 remake of his own 1934 spy thriller is an exciting event in its own right, with several justifiably famous sequences. James Stewart and Doris Day play American tourists who discover more than they wanted to know about an assassination plot. When their son is kidnapped to keep them quiet, they are caught between concern for him and the terrible secret they hold. When asked about the difference between this version of the story and the one he made 22 years earlier, Hitchcock always said the first was the work of a talented amateur while the second was the act of a seasoned professional. Indeed, several extraordinary moments in this update represent consummate filmmaking, particularly a relentlessly exciting Albert Hall scene, with a blaring symphony, an assassin's gun, and Doris Day's scream. The Man Who Knew Too Muchis the work of a master in his prime. --Tom Keogh

    Vertigo
Although it wasn't a box-office success when originally released in 1958, Vertigo has since taken its deserved place as Alfred Hitchcock's greatest, most spellbinding, most deeply personal achievement. James Stewart plays a retired police detective who is hired by an old friend to follow his wife (a superb Kim Novak, in what becomes a double role), whom he suspects of being possessed by the spirit of a dead madwoman. Shot around San Francisco (the Golden Gate Bridge and the Palace of the Legion of Honor are significant locations) and elsewhere in Northern California (the redwoods, Mission San Juan Batista) in rapturous Technicolor, Vertigo is as lovely as it is haunting. --Jim Emerson

    Psycho
For all the slasher pictures that have ripped off Psycho (and particularly its classic set piece, the "shower scene"), nothing has ever matched the impact of the real thing. More than just a first-rate shocker full of thrills and suspense, Psycho is also an engrossing character study in which director Alfred Hitchcock skillfully seduces you into identifying with the main characters--then pulls the rug (or the bathmat) out from under you. Anthony Perkins is unforgettable as Norman Bates, the mama's boy proprietor of the Bates Motel; and so is Janet Leigh as Marion Crane, who makes an impulsive decision and becomes a fugitive from the law, hiding out at Norman's roadside inn for one fateful night. --Jim Emerson

    The Birds
Vacationing in northern California, Alfred Hitchcock was struck by a story in a Santa Cruz newspaper: "Seabird Invasion Hits Coastal Homes." From this peculiar incident, and his memory of a short story by Daphne du Maurier, the master of suspense created one of his strangest and most terrifying films. The Birds follows a chic blonde, Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren), as she travels to the coastal town of Bodega Bay to hook up with a rugged fellow (Rod Taylor) she's only just met. Before long the town is attacked by marauding birds, and Hitchcock's skill at staging action is brought to the fore. Beyond the superb effects, however, The Birds is also one of Hitchcock's most psychologically complicated scenarios, a tense study of violence, loneliness, and complacency. What really gets under your skin are not the bird skirmishes but the anxiety and the eerie quiet between attacks. Treated with scant attention by serious critics in 1963, The Birds has grown into a classic and--despite the sci-fi trappings--one of Hitchcock's most serious films. --Robert Horton

    Marnie
Sean Connery, fresh from the second Bond picture, From Russia with Love, is a Philadelphia playboy who begins to fall for Tippi Hedren's blonde ice goddess only when he realizes that she's a professional thief; she's come to work in his upper-crust insurance office in order to embezzle mass quantities. His patient program of investigation and surveillance has a creepy, voyeuristic quality that's pure Hitchcock, but all's lost when it emerges that the root of Marnie's problem is phobic sexual frigidity, induced by a childhood trauma. Luckily, Sean is up to the challenge. As it were. Not even D.H. Lawrence believed as fervently as Hitchcock in the curative properties of sexual release. --David Chute

    Torn Curtain
Paul Newman and Julie Andrews star in what must unfortunately be called one of Alfred Hitchcock's lesser efforts. Still, sub-par Hitchcock is better than a lot of what's out there, and this one is well worth a look. Newman plays cold war physicist Michael Armstrong, while Andrews plays his lovely assistant-and-fiancée, Sarah Sherman. Armstrong has been working on a missile defense system that will "make nuclear defense obsolete," and naturally both sides are very interested. All Sarah cares about is the fact that Michael has been acting awfully fishy lately. The suspense of Torn Curtain is by nature not as thrilling as that in the average Hitchcock film--much of it involves sitting still and wondering if the bad guys are getting closer. Still, Hitchcock manages to amuse himself: there is some beautifully clever camera work and an excruciating sequence that illustrates the frequent Hitchcock point that death is not a tidy business. --Ali Davis

    Topaz
Alfred Hitchcock hadn't made a spy thriller since the 1930s, so his 1969 adaptation of Leon Uris's bestseller seemed like a curious choice for the director. But Hitchcock makes Uris's story of the West's investigation into the Soviet Union's dealings with Cuba his own. Frederick Stafford plays a French intelligence agent who works with his American counterpart (John Forsythe) to break up a Soviet spy ring. The film is a bit flat dramatically and visually, and there are sequences that seem to occupy Hitchcock's attention more than others. A minor work all around, with at least two alternative endings shot by Hitchcock. --Tom Keogh

    Frenzy
Alfred Hitchcock's penultimate film, written by Anthony Shaffer (who also wrote Sleuth), this delightfully grisly little tale features an all-British cast minus star wattage, which may have accounted for its relatively slim showing in the States. Jon Finch plays a down-on-his-luck Londoner who is offered some help by an old pal (Barry Foster). In fact, Foster is a serial killer the police have been chasing--and he's framing Finch. Which leads to a classic Hitchcock situation: a guiltless man is forced to prove his innocence while eluding Scotland Yard at the same time. Spiked with Hitchcock's trademark dark humor, Frenzy also features a very funny subplot about the Scotland Yard investigator (Alec McCowen) in charge of the case, who must endure meals by a wife (Vivien Merchant) who is taking a gourmet-cooking class. --Marshall Fine

    Family Plot
Alfred Hitchcock's final film is understated comic fun that mixes suspense with deft humor, thanks to a solid cast. The plot centers on the kidnapping of an heir and a diamond theft by a pair of bad guys led by Karen Black and William Devane. The cops seem befuddled, but that doesn't stop a questionable psychic (Barbara Harris) and her not overly bright boyfriend (Bruce Dern, in a rare good-guy role) from picking up the trail and actually solving the crime. Did she do it with actual psychic powers? That's part of the fun of Harris's enjoyably ditsy performance. --Marshall Fine

    4 out of 5 stars Poor packaging........2007-06-01

This is a great set minus the annoying packaging. As someone mentioned earlier the DVD cases are fitted to go in a certain order and if they don't go in in that order then they get stuck and the edges of the DVD cases get frayed. The corners of the cases get frayed anyway because the cases are a paper and cardboard-based binding with the plastic DVD holders glued on to them. So I put them in spine first now. Open and close them enough times and you get those white, worn edges on the spine. Another problem with the cases is that the plastic glued on part that hold the DVDs in place are notorious for getting de-glued. Yet another thing. . .one disc is now not holding in the case properly. How could I remedy this problem? Buy an entire new set??? The door on the velvet box doesn't snap shut in anyway so if you hold the wrong side down. . .the DVDs will fall out. So watch out. The velvet box looks and feels nice but it collects dust very easily and is not easily cleanable. I tried to brush off some of the dust and the silvery logos and such began to flake off.

    5 out of 5 stars A REALLY NICE COLLECTION - A GREAT GIFT.......2007-05-23

Not only does this collection have some of Hitchcock's best movies, it also comes in a REALLY nice felt box and nice DVD cases. Makes an excellent gift.

This is an excellent collection. It doesn't have all of Hitchcock's greats, it's missing Strangers on a Train, Notorious and Rebecca, but its hands down the best collection assembled of his movies from the 40's and on. There are some great extras as well. I highly recommend this collection.

Two idealistic young students commit a crime thinking they are following the ideas of their former teacher - only to see everything slowly fall apart... Hitchock's stage-like technicolor debut does not move the camera very far, but like 'rear window' and 'dial m for murder' - just enough because we do not need to move very far to face basic and suspensful plot elements, in fact, they are all the more poignant when we see them magnified in a particular setting..
Rope is not Hitchcock's best film.. but it is a great film nontheless, featuring great performances and witty dialogue.. James stewart is always fun to watch and his understated performance drives the show.. I would highly recommend 'rope' as one of hitchcock's more interesting film expeditions..

    4 out of 5 stars "You're quite a good chicken strangler as I recall".......2007-06-01

"Rope," Alfred Hitchcock's first color film, is an adaptation of the play by Patrick Hamilton, which was re-named "Rope's End" when it hit Broadway. It is also loosely based upon the real-life Leopold/Loeb case. Like Hitchcock's "Dial M for Murder," "Rope" feels like it was created for the stage, using only one set and virtually no music. One of the most intriguing aspects of the film is that it was filmed in "real time," meaning that the 80 minutes which the film spans is intended to be a straight 80 minutes for the characters, though it has been discussed that the storyline actually occurs over about 100 minutes. Nevertheless, it's the continous takes which make the film so spectacular. The movie was edited from about seven 10-minute takes. At the end of each of these takes the camera focuses on some dark or black spot, originally intended to give theater operators a chance to change the reel and to mask the fact that there was any editing done at all. It works well.

The story is classic Hitchcock: two prep school pals decide to commit a murder just for the sake of doing so. They plan everything to perfection, and for the finishing touch, they invite a group of people to dinner, feasting upon the chest in which the corpse is contained. Among those invited are the parents of the deceased, his would-be fiance, his best friend, and the murderous duo's eccentric old professor, who they think would approve of their scheme. John Dall is the driving force behind this whole ghastly operation, and he overplays his role with a reckless pompousness. His best friend and reluctant partner-in-crime is Farley Granger, who is constantly on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Unquestionably the highlight of the cast is James Stewart as their former professor, Rupert, who states that murder is not a crime, but a priveledge. This is one of my favorite performances from Mr. Stewart. He plays his part with a devilishly easygoing, intelligent suavete and far more reserve than you would usually see from Stewart.

Considering the movie was released in 1948, the fact that the script retains the implied homosexuality between the murderers from Hamilton's play is a bold move. The script does omit the knowledge that Stewart's character had an affair with one of his old students, a good move because if it had been kept the audience would feel considerably less sympathy for Stewart than they do at the film's end. Interestingly, Hitchcock chose to open the film with the murder, leaving no doubt that a murder was in fact committed, while in Hamilton's play we don't know whether the duo actually went through with the murder or not until its end. It seems uncharacteristic of Hitchcock that he should decide against so artful and suspenseful a technique as leaving his audience questioning whether the murder is real or not.

Don't begin your exploration of Hitchcock's works with this movie. Opt instead for something like "Vertigo" or even Hitchcock's previous masterpiece, "Notorious," which is cleverly referenced at one point in the film when Stewart's character names the one film he enjoyed, "that new thing with Ingrid Bergman." One of the 5 "lost Hitchcocks," "Rope" is not one of the Master's masterpieces, but it is one of his finer and most interesting works. The "real time" technique is fascinating, the story is unmistakably Hitchcockian, and Stewart's performance is among his best, and that alone is enough to make the film worth a watch.

    5 out of 5 stars one of hitchcock's finest........2007-05-14

Rope is a smart murder-mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I was pleasantly surprised with the acting, the plot, and the dialogue. This movie is not only suspenseful, but funny too! There are so many one-liners that I want to quote. Hitchcock is a master at his craft and so are the actors he chooses for his films. This film is a must-see!

5 out of 5 stars Hitchcock and Stewart at their best!.......2007-05-14

I can't give any Hitchcock film less than 5 Stars. The man never took home an OSCAR, but always took home many fans. This film is one of the best that Stewart did with the great director and Farly Granger was excellent in it. The twists and turns and macabre manner in which it's written and directed is brilliant. Buy this film, watch it and you'll see why it's a classic!

4 out of 5 stars "That's the difference between us and other men: they talk about committing the perfect crime, we do it".......2007-04-21

"Rope", a film based on a play and directed by Alfred Hitchcock, is a well-made thriller that entertains the spectator, but that is far from being perfect.

I must say that the story is original, and that the beginning is quite shocking. The two main characters are Brandon and Philip (John Dall and Farley Granger), two young men that commit a crime just to see if they can get away with murder. As if killing another man weren't enough, they decide to tempt fate, hiding the body in a trunk, where it could easily be discovered, and inviting some people to dinner. Their guests include, among others, the victim's parents, his girlfriend and an old schoolteacher that gets increasingly suspicious regarding Brandon and Philip's actions. The schoolteacher (James Stewart) doesn't know exactly what they did, but is certain that something is wrong, very wrong. And of course, he cannot understand why Philip keeps looking at the trunk that is used as a buffet table...

On the whole, I can say that I liked "Rope", even though I wouldn't be overly eager to watch it again. From my point of view, you will also enjoy this whodunnit, specially if you are fond of Hitchcock movies, and don't mind the fact that albeit good, this is not one of his best films.

PS: I give "Rope" 3.5 stars...

IN A WHISPER training challenge-AUTHENTIC DVD- FACTORY WRAPPED/SEALED. An insightful & entertaining 2 hour training challenge featuring 3 of the best clinicians in the world; Craig Cameron Josh Lyons and Pat Parelli, which takes place in historical Sundance Square in Ft Worth, TX- an environment that would be challenging for even a well trained, seasoned horse. This 1st ever contest was set up as fairly as possible so each trainer would be competing on equal ground; 6 horses from the same ranch, same age, equal breeding, same sex. The only human interaction the horses experienced in the first 2 years of life was being gelded- not the best working relationship! The horses were taken to to the square & then sorted into 6 pens. Pat Josh & Craig drew from a hat for 2 horses each & had 10 minutes to choose the horse they felt could best handle the challenge. The 3 horses they chose went to individual roundpens through paneled alleyways to prevent any human handling and Pat, Josh & Craig were given just 2 ½ hours to work their horse in preparation for their challenge ride which would be judged based on the following: 1st- rail work or general handling ability, walk, jog and lope on the rail in both directions, turn backs, 360 degree turns in both directions, stopping & standing for 10 seconds and backing 2nd- obstacle course consisting of 7 obstacles 1. Walk through an hourglass cedar log path 2. Walk through a zigzag cedar log path 3. Walking over 3 cedar logs 4. Elevated jump or step over 5. Trot a "figure 8" around 2- 55 gallon barrels 6. Take a rope and drag a log around the arena 7. Rope a bale of hay and drag it around the arena 3rd- a free style giving each trainer the opportunity to do anything he felt his horse was ready for. All of this in front of nearly 2,500 spectators in the middle of Sundance Square in downtown Ft Worth, TX with 8 cameras capturing the action up close & personal. Its not only entertaining & informative-its simply amazing!

IN A WHISPER training challenge - EXCELLANT DVD - very interesting and information packed. An insightful & entertaining 2 hour training challenge featuring 3 of the best clinicians in the world; Craig Cameron Josh Lyons and Pat Parelli.
Fantastic DVD I watched it and was very interested in it and am not into horses but had to watch all of this DVD. THE ABSOLUTE BEST.
My daughter was convinced that Josh Lyons was the best ever after this DVD and now will become a horse handler, breeder and hopefully buy her own stock one day soon. She is 17 and admires horses and after this DVD has become convinced to follow in Josh Lyons foot steps.
The desciption is exact and the profile of the trainers and horses does entice you to see the complete DVD in one go.
FANSTASTIC, EASY WATCHING, GREAT COLOUR AND EASY UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT IS HAPPENING. A MUST BUY PRODUCT HERE. THE BEST EVER. A person that likes to learn visually this is the one for you if you want to learn about what to do with your horse and how to understand the horse.
The packaging of this item and delivery is impecible so is the communication with amazon a great company.

Pretty interesting - it was nice to see all three different methods at work

5 out of 5 stars "Parelli shouldda won," by texcowboy.......2007-02-26

I have plenty to say. First of all, I come from Ft. Worth and remember driving past the whole event and begging my parents to stop and watch a little from the car. When it was released on DVD, I borrowed a copy from my friend, and was amazed at what these real cowboys can do. Pat Parelli is amazing, and I have to buy Parelli Kits now.

And all you Aussies, be quiet. We all know y'all are just pissed cause all you guys have is Clinton Anderson, and he LEFT Australia and went to the US! So, if you wanna blab about how this is "cruel and barbarous treatment", go ahead. But I took trail rides in your "Down Under" and let me tell you that those horses were the greenest, stubborn , skinniest pieces of horseflesh I ever saw. Besides, a two-year old colt CAN deal with a rider, and being saddled. You English riders break horses to race at nine months.

    5 out of 5 stars Amazing!.......2006-03-06

I thought this DVD was awe-insprirng. I had been used to training by breaking. These three were able to train 2 year old green horses in just 2 1/2 hours to do many amazing things. To do so they used humane training methods instead of forcing their horses to do what they wanted them to do. It was unbelievable; the connection between the trainers and the horses was evident. It was good to see how they each approached the horses differently.

    5 out of 5 stars "In A Whisper.......2006-02-28

First, my order was filled promptly by the distributor.

I have watched the video and it was excellent as I knew it would be. I have seen Craig Cameron's work before and what he and the other three men accomplish working with a green horse is truly amazing, one could say miraculous. I was always taught that it takes a certain amount of man handling to "Break" a horse.

These men were able to gain the confidence of these animals in a very short time. I would recommend this to anyone.

I am sending the second copy to my cousin in Lousiana.

    5 out of 5 stars Jammin' JANET!!!.......2007-01-14

This Collector's Edition DVD set is fantastic. Not only did it have me singing along to every song, but dancing to them as well. The Velvet Rope Tour is a concert Janet had @ New York City's Madison Square Garden which was excellent. The Live in Hawaii concert was phenomenal and this particular concert shows Janet during some of her "quick-changes" backstage preparing for the next number to be performed. That was exceptionally cool to see. Both of these shows give the viewer the feeling of actually being there @ the concerts up close. Janet was proficient, professional and positively SEXY!!! :)

4 out of 5 stars Janet Jackson grown up(sorta).......2007-01-09

I enjoyed the concerts very much. The parts I did not enjoy were the childish segments designed for 5 year olds. Other than that good product for the money.

5 out of 5 stars janet in concert.......2006-10-28

My velvet rope concert DVD is destroyed from playing it too much and I never got a chance to buy the all for you dvd since I've been to the show anyways and have the HBO special taped from tv but I'm going to buy this to replace my older copies that aren't very clear anymore. I wish they would release the Rhythm nation and janet. tours on DVD which are much better than these two although these are also amazing.

5 out of 5 stars These are the Two Best Janet DVDs Ever!!.......2006-01-14

Janet kicks anyone's butt who tries to top her. She is by far the best performer of the Pop era. The Velvet Rope & Live in Hawaii are classics. I own them both seperatly but I'm reviewing this because it's the two combined. WOULD YOU MIND is so hott!! God Bless You All who LOVE Janet & GOD BLESS JANET!!

5 out of 5 stars Janet At Her Absolute Best!!!.......2005-03-15

I own these two DVD's seperately but they are both worth buying (especially live in hawaii). These concerts are definitely at her best in her musical career. Not only is the singing and dancing entertaining, but the costumes and sets are something that you'll never forget either. Both concerts are unique and something that you have not seen many artists, if any, do. It is definitely worth buying these two tours.

    5 out of 5 stars Great workout.......2007-02-10

    I love this workout tape.

I started with the Ropesport intermediate DVD and moved up to this one. It's a great half hour workout with a variety of jumps. The intermediate stops and starts, but this one has a quick ten minutes of jumping and you've already started working up a sweat by the time the warm up exercises start.

If you get bored with the jumps featured in the video you can add different ones, detailed in the DVD (the intermediate DVD has a bunch of alternative jumps as well, which I actually prefer more).

Yes, the "celebrities" are annoying and the participants in the tape yell and whoop so much that it becomes annoying, but considering how good the actual workout is, I've gotten over these annoyances. (And to be truthful there aren't that many jumprope DVDs, so there's no alternative but to adjust.)

I've had it almost a month and I like it. My hips have trim a bit and I lost 5 pounds without any real dieting. I do it 4 times a week. With the help of this my stomach has gone back flat....I was getting a little belly and that's something I wasn't used to. About 10-15 mins into the jumps...sweat is pouring down my face and I am panting heavy. I figure I'd give it about another month...or until I can continuously do every jump before I move onto the next dvds.

Louis Garica's video was ruined by the poseur d-list celebrities. This video is MAD OBNOXIOUS!!!
Mr. Garcia is not bad, but the two d-listers were just AWFUL!

I can not recommend this and it's probably going into the trash, because I don't even want to re-sell it.

May I suggest AeroJump by Michael Olajide. It's MUCH more challenging (not for the weak) and it's just Michael.

This lavish two-hour concert special, originally produced for HBO, offers ample proof of Janet Jackson's fierce ambitions. Whitney, Celine, and Mariah can run circles around her small, sweet voice, but Janet brings a tough, muscular power to her live performances that none of those peers can approach, storming through myriad set and costume changes, and sustaining an aerobic pace through elaborate dance routines. As captured during this Madison Square Garden presentation of her Velvet Rope tour, Janet Jackson is, ahem, very buff indeed, not just in her well-toned physical health, but in her vocal attack.

The Velvet Rope tosses up rappers, hard-rock heroism, melting romantic pop, and Jackson's own flavor of soft-core erotica, but the show transcends those components in its broad sense of spectacle. The star fronts a formidable battalion of dancers, singers, and musicians to make her points, and while it's obvious that the musical performances have been nipped, tucked, and polished to an acceptable sheen, Janet earns her props through sheer willpower.

Ranging across Jackson's best-known songs from the last decade, the production is noteworthy for its intricate choreography and massive settings, in which the star seeks to match the big-budget sweep of her music videos. The live troupe is formidable, composed of a crack band and a large cast of nimble dancers, and Janet keeps pace with her aerobic presence. We'll leave it to social scientists to ponder the significance of the "Rope Burn" sequence, in which an ecstatic male fan is lashed to a chair and gets to watch his favorite sex object pole-dance. If this stalwart is any indication, Janet has already won the hearts (and more) of her faithful. --Sam Sutherland

    5 out of 5 stars Dynamic Concert.......2007-01-07

I saw this concert when it aired live on HBO several years ago. The show is full of wonderful visuals (costumes, props and sets). Much more than you would expect from a concert . The dancing is out of this world and Janet looks like the true diva-performer extraordinaire that she is. I recorded this show on VCR and the audio on this DVD could stand to be a little bit better. Also, they cut one small scene out, it's where Janet brings a guy up on stage and the first guy doesnt suit her taste, for whatever reason, then she has him taken off the stage and recruits another. On the DVD you never see the first guy who is brought onto the stage. If you like Janet you'll want to add this to your collection and if your not a Janet fan you will be after seeing this show!

    4 out of 5 stars The Velvet Rope Tour,Live & Loving It.......2006-08-02

I bought this DVD a year ago,and when I first watched it I was a little bit disappointed because I really expected more of it.
They weren't very frequent with the costume changes, and they weren't as much creative as the All For You Tour as far as the settings consern.
But as a true Janet fan and a inspired dancer,I bought "The Velvet Rope" album(I'm a huge fan since a little 4 years ago)and thought it was an amazing peace of art.
The more I listened to it,the more I fell in love with it.
And after beginning to be totally obsessed with the album,I watched the show, and I thought it was AMAZING.
The show was more about the cheography and showing us the great talent Janet posseses.
She has this great energy on stage, which she always has of course, but what I haven't noticed the first time I saw THIS DVD.
Overall,it's a great show and y'all should really check it out, love you janet!!!!!!

Janet has come a long way folks and this concert proves she is/was at the top of her game. I can clearly see her influence in other artists such as Destiny's Child and Britney Spears. Janet might not be a great vocalist, in fact thats her weakness but her performances make up for what she lacks. Her dancing and her ability to rarely rely on a backing track makes her a great performer.
I was probably no more than 10 or 11 when this concert was shown and it was good then and great now.
Janet's energy and determination can be seen and felt throughout the show. She seems more focused than ever and it shows. Aside from that, her band and dancers were on point with every key and step. All of her top hits at the time are performed; "IF", "Control", "Miss You Much" and "I get lonely", they are all here.
If you want to see a great LIVE concert with great sets, vocals, dances, costumes and props then pick this one up. Its worth the money. If your a Janet fan or a fan of Pop/R&B music then get this DVD because its a classic.

5 out of 5 stars what else can i say she is JANET!.......2005-10-11

this tour is like a representation of janet as a person what she feels and what she wants in life and what she is looking for and basically happiness i personally enjoy janet in everything she does because she does it so well!

5 out of 5 stars beautiful representation of janet as a person.......2005-07-27

this tour was very person and as janet represented from the start of the concert, an open book of HER story of her life, music, feelings and so forth. The concert begins with a big book being opened and then seperated into two screens then comes janet. She sings songs from velvet rope which are perfectly mixed with classic dance hits of hers over the years. A lot of the control and rhythm nation songs were made into medleys though some of the ones with intense choreography like If, Rhythm Nation and so forth were performed wonderfully. Janet also created great new chorography for what about, you and i get lonely which could have also been singles. I wish Everytime was sang on this show though that ballad is just so beautiful. It was great to see rope burn and special included.

3 out of 5 stars An adequate introduction to Basic Jumprope Skills..........2006-07-16

This is not really a workout video. First, the three instructors give you detailed information about choosing the jump rope that is right for you, the proper apparel, etc. and then they go into basic jump roping skills, such as resting moves (turning the rope in figure eights and double turns) then the basic two-foot jump, lunges, jacks, etc. There is a short 15-min introductory workout that briefly goes over these elements but they stop a lot. The main instructor is Louis, and Eric and Kelly are really just there to add cheesy commentary or occassionally offer advice. They then have a section just for free-styling and you are supposed to do your own thing.

So basically they just teach you the basic techniques and then you're on your own. It's not the structured workout I was looking for...but if it works for you go for it. They do a very good job of breaking down the steps and giving information.
