Editorial Review:
Amazon.com essential video
French director Luc Besson (The Fifth Element) broke the commercial taboo against female-driven action movies with this seminal, seductively slick film about a violent street punk (Anne Parillaud) trained to become a smooth, stylish assassin. Though it amounts, in the end, to little more than disposable pop, the film has a cohesiveness in style and tone--akin to the early James Bond films--that gives it a sense of integrity. Parillaud is compelling both as a wild child and chic-but-lethal pro (trained in good manners by none other than Jeanne Moreau). Tchéky Karyo is also good as the cop mentor who develops feelings for her. --Tom Keogh

The fans brought Peta Wilson's sultry operative back for one last, brief season of La Femme Nikita, and while they remain divided on the quality and impact of its eight episodes, few will disagree that this three-disc set of the cult series' last gasp is a welcome addition to their collections. At the core of the fifth season is an attempt to answer the nagging questions posited throughout the series: Why was Nikita recruited to serve with Section One? The answer lies in the form of Mr. Jones (well-played by veteran actor Edward Woodward of The Equalizer fame), a shadowy figure with a connection to Nikita's past. Meanwhile, a holographic replica of the deceased Madeline (Alberta Watson) is developed to replace her advisory talents ("The Girl Who Wasn't There"), and Section must ferret out a mole (with suspects ranging from Operations and newcomer Walter (Don Francks) to the still-missing Michael (Roy Dupuis), in "The Evil That Men Do") within the organization that's been placed by The Collective, which by the season's conclusion (the gripping "A Time for Every Purpose"), has come very close to toppling Section One. All this, plus the future of Nikita's relationship with Michael, comes to an explosive head in this series finale set.
Supplemental features are surprisingly light in the fifth-season set; extras are limited to three deleted (or "canceled") scenes, and the teaser trailer (directed by series helmer John Cassar, and featuring some nudity) used to promote the season's debut on the Internet (It is notable for being one of the first television promotions to be filmed and aired exclusively for that format). A featurette, Season 5: Declassified, offers opinions and reminiscences on the show's conclusion from some of its behind-the-scenes personnel as well as select members of the cast. -- Paul Gaita

Wish there were more.......2007-05-16
For me this was one of those series that you wish would never end, there is always the question of what happens next. The final scene between Nikita and Michael is one to touch the heart. It is a pity that this series was not continued and a pity that we do not see much of Australia actress Peta Wilson since the series ended. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes complex story lines that is not the usual predicable plot. Try it - you will love it.
La Femme Nikita.......2007-05-16
I love Nikita and Michael. I was so depressed when the show ended, I cried many tears and felt like I was losing some really special people. Great show.
Great ending to a great show........2007-03-19
The eight episodes included in season five don't exactly "wrap things up" for the show, but they certainly had me on the edge of my seat. It's hard to review this one without giving anything away. If you are a fan of this show, this season is a must-see (and buy) and it will not disappoint.
The Final Femme Nikita.......2007-03-14
This shorter season has been a pure pleasure to watch on DVD. As an avid fan of the series when it aired, I was thrilled to see the cast and crew again in all of their spy gear. This season ties up all of the plot points and gives a satifying "end" to the story line that built over the first four seasons. I really enjoyed the extra's, Cancelled Scenes and the director commentary.
Overall - if you are a La Femme Nikita fan - this is the season that you must own!
A better ending!.......2007-02-21
Season Five was a better ending to a show that was cancelled way before it's time. Originally cancelled at the end of the Fourth Season, the Fifth season was produced in good part because of the dedicated fans. Rumor has it that some started mailing their TV sets to the producers in protest! Power to the people! There are TV shows out there now that are similar, but none like the original. THIS IS A MUST SEE SERIES! La Femme Nikita ROCKS!

The fourth season of the espionage action series La Femme Nikita might've been its last, were it not for a heroic effort to revive the show by its fans. Since the campaign was a success, the fourth season remains an exciting chapter in the cult series' history, and one with a startling denouement that left audiences begging for more. The crux of the series pits Section One's sinister head, Operations (Robert Eugene Glazer) against Nikita's partner/lover Michael (Roy Dupuis), who has been deemed expendable; meanwhile, Michael must find a way to deprogram Nikita (Peta Wilson) from the brainwashing that has turned into a destructive killing machine. Highlights from this season include the two-parter "Man in the Middle" and "Love, Honor and Cherish," which finds Nikita betrothed to a wealthy industrialist (Maxwell Caulfield) who is Section's next target; "No One Lives Forever," in which Nikita is granted her freedom in exchange for the murder of the man who killed her father (whose identity is one of the season's most gasp-worthy surprises); and the three-part conclusion ("Face in the Mirror," "Up the Rabbit Hole," and "Four Light Years Farther"), which reveals stunning news about Nikita's true identity, delivers a unpleasant fate for one of the major characters, and leaves the rest in particularly dire straits. Were this the conclusion of the series as intended, the fourth season certainly provided a worthy wrap-up, with more than its share of intrigue and last-minute plot twists; as it stands, it's exceptionally fun TV, with a fine balance of action and romance between the charismatic and attractive. Wilson and Dupuis. The six-disc set includes all 22 episodes of the fourth season; Eugene Robert Glazer provides commentary for two episodes, "Time to Be Heroes" and "Sympathy for the Devil," on which he's respectively joined by director Brad Turner and writer Peter Lenkov; there's also a collection of deleted scenes with commentary by Christopher Heyn assistant to the show's executive consultant Joel Surnow, and a gag reel. --Paul Gaita
Customer Reviews:
Superb form in season four.......2007-05-11
I'm about a third of the way through season four so far, and some of these plot twists are astounding. "Sympathy for the devil" had me guessing up until the final credits, bravo!
Best of the genre.......2007-04-14
By far the best of its kind. Strong female character and even stronger support cast. As good as the origional movie was, the creators of the show took the reigns and ran with it. The fourth season wasn't the best of the series, but still far better than other similar shows.
If you liked Alias, you'll love this show, which I think Alias "borrowed" from. It certainly paled in comparison to this Canadian export.
I don't understand all the 5 star reviews.......2007-03-21
I'll try to keep this review free of plot spoilers.
I loved LFN seasons 1, 2, 3. I never watched them on TV originally, but I have the DVDs. I was looking forward to season 4 in a big way.
I watched season 4 in a relatively short time period (about a week) and often found myself wondering "Why?". The first 6 or so episodes of this season were, frankly, boring. Suddenly, things got interesting for a while and things picked up a bit for several episodes and my hopes were restored.
The 2nd half of the season turned into a hodge podge of random missions, mostly unrelated, and then, suddenly, the last few episodes where the power of the characters and pretty much everything we have come to believe about the characters is turned upside down. I found these changes too inconsistent to swallow after seasons 1-3. At least most of the acting and dialog around these changes was believable, even if the changes themselves were not.
This season is worth buying to have the complete set, and yes, I will buy season 5 to see where things ultimately will land, but I'm not expecting too much.
P.S. One very good thing about this season is the sub-plot about Birkoff. The actor who plays Birkoff does a terrific job in this season.
I love this show........2007-03-19
Season three of this show is still my favourite, but this season also deserves no less than five stars. Season four is amazing, especially for Michael-Nikita fans. (And what fan of this show isn't?) This season's stand out episodes (reasons to buy the DVD as far as I'm concerned) include There Are No Missions, Time To Be Heroes, Catch a Falling Star and Up The Rabbit Hole.
This season really gives each actor in the series a chance to shine, and I believe Matthew Ferguson did an absolutely amazing job playing Birkoff for the first half of the season, and then as Jason, his twin brother, for the second half.
This show is extremely underrated and deserves more recognition. I definitely recommend buying this and every season of the show.
Not bad.......2006-11-14
This season was pretty good with a lot of actions and a great number of issues resolved. Hopefully the fifth season will answer the rest.

Longtime La Femme Nikita fans and newcomers alike will enjoy this six-disc boxed set, which compiles the syndicated television series' entire first season, and shows why it garnered a devoted audience throughout its five-season run (1997-2001): it's a fast-paced, action-packed mixture of sex appeal (thanks to the statuesque form of its star, Australian actress Peta Wilson) and intricately plotted espionage thrills. Producers Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran (who later created 24) hewed the series' framework closely to its inspiration--Luc Besson's 1990 theatrical feature of the same name--save for one change. Where the movie Nikita is a drug-addicted thug, Wilson's Nikita is a street-savvy homeless woman. The pilot, "Nikita" (on disc 1), details her introduction to the underground spy network known as Section One: facing a death sentence after a trumped-up murder charge, Nikita is approached by the mysterious Michael (Roy Dupuis), who offers her a new identity as an anti-terrorist operative. The subsequent 21 episodes in the set offer plenty of action and suspense, as well as a compelling character in Nikita, who struggles constantly with the deception and bloodshed that are unavoidable aspects of her assignments. The set concludes with a dramatic season finale, disc 6's "Mercy," which forces Nikita to deal with some hard truths about her future and her feelings for Michael.
If having the complete first season in one set doesn't please series fans, the supplemental features will surely satisfy even the iciest armchair operative. Disc 1 offers commentary by Surnow, Cochran, and director Jon Cassar on "Nikita" as well as commentary by Surnow for deleted scenes from several episodes (also on discs 2, 3, and 6); disc 6 features Surnow's comments on "Mercy," as well as "Section One Declassified: The Making of La Femme Nikita," which features interviews with the cast and creators. --Paul Gaita

Missing disc.......2007-05-08
I was thrilled to be able to find the set for my friend as it is her all
time favorite show and all the copies I have found in the past have been
very expensive! This price was a steal--however upon giving the set as a
gift to my friend and her opening it -- we discovered there was a disc
missing--I do understand these things happen but it was very disapointing
overall the service was great--and the shipping was extremely fast!
still continue to order through amazon.com!!
Love the show.......2007-04-03
I love the show. I watched it since the first episode and I love it. I recommend it to anyone. It is a great show.
La Femme Nikita.......2007-03-26
When this show originally aired on the USA Network I was only able to catch an episode here and there, once in awhile. That's a problem I intend to correct now that the series has come to DVD.
I'm looking forward to watching every episode without all those annoying interruptions.
I could go on and on about how great this series is, but you already know that. And other posters have already pointed it out.
Buy (or at least rent) this series. You won't regret it.
Peta Wilson ROCKS!!
Got this for someone as a gift.......2007-01-09
But they were sure happy as all get-out. For reasons unknown this is a very expensive boxed set (all the Nikita seasons are).

Tensions between reluctant superspy Nikita (Peta Wilson) and her shadowy bosses at Section One couldn't be more rocky at the launch of La Femme Nikita's third season, and things definitely go from bad to worse. And it's not just Nikita who's having issues with her boss, Operations (Eugene Robert Glazer), but also Michael (Roy Dupuis), who experiences a major loss of power after being passed over for the Chief Strategist position ("Third Party Ripoff"), and fellow agents Walter (Don Francks) and Birkoff (Matthew Ferguson); the situation gets so bad that at one point, they consider jumping ship ("Slipping Into Darkness"). And if that's not enough complication and intrigue, Michael and Nikita's romantic inclinations finally take root, much to the consternation of Section One and Madeline (Alberta Watson), who attempts to nix their relationship, forcing the pair to meet behind her back ("Playing with Fire"). All this, plus a pair of deadly terrorist siblings ("Threshold of Pain"), and a modeling agency that fronts as a combo brothel/gladiator arena ("Hand to Hand"), adds up to another exciting season.
Season 3's six-disc set includes all 22 episodes, with commentary by Eugene Glazer on two shows--the season opener, "Looking for Michael," on which he's joined by director Jon Cassar, and the finale, "On Borrowed Time," which also features writer/production consultant Peter Lenkov. Glazer and Cassar also offer comments on a 13-minute battery of 10 deleted scenes from various episodes, while Cassar, Lenkov, and executive consultant Joel Surnow (24) are featured on an eight-minute featurette about production designer Rocco Matteo. And lest first-time viewers consider La Femme Nikita a laugh-free show, there's even a three-minute gag reel to lighten the mood. The season 3 set should be the perfect six-course meal to tide over devoted Nikita-ites--until the season 4 set, of course. --Paul Gaita

Love it but found a little flaw.......2007-05-26
I'm a big Peta Wilson fan and I recommend buying the DVDs but I just noticed a little flaw on disc 4 episode 3 with the storyline about Sarah. Near the end when Nikita rushes to save Sarah from getting herself killed, as she jumps from the stairwell, you can totally see that the woman is a stunt double, her face is COMPLETELY different and she looks nothing like Peta. Then you see Peta when she hits the ground. Anyone else notice that?
La Femme Nakita 3rd season.......2007-03-21
I bought this for my mother in law. She is a huge fan of hers.
LE FEMME NIKITA SEASON 3.......2007-01-09
I FEEL THIS SEASON WAS THE VERY BEST FROM THE SERIES. IT WAS THE MOST RIVETING.
Nikita season three kicks butt.......2006-02-28
The entire season sets up the manipulation that is the end of the Section One's repressive control of its operatives. Operations and Maddalen go to extreme lengths to control there two best operatives love and passion in the name of efficiency and numbers. Mic makes a preview into his crucial role in season four. Can't wait to see that season come out on dvd. Too bad Jack Bower doesn't have the support of section one to kill the terrorists in this decade of TV techno-thriller series.

La Femme Nikita Season 1 And Season 2 Boxset Errors!!!.......2006-05-07
I am a huge fan of La Femme Nikita and when I purchased Season One boxset off Ebay I was so thrilled and couldn't wait to watch it. But I noticed that all the special features that were advertised are not on the discs, maybe one or two deleted scenes but that's it. What happened to the "Making Of La Femme Nikita and interviews with cast and creators. On Disc One it says to check out discs 2,3 and 6 for more special features and there aren't any!!!
Then I purchased Season Two and the same thing there, only two or three deleted scenes and that's it!!! And also on Disc 5 Episode 18 which is called "Off Profile" is actually episode 21 which is "Adrian's Garden". Then on Disc 6 I looked at episode 21 called "Adrian's Garden" and thought that maybe that would be "Off Profile" and it was once again the same Episode "Adrian's Garden". So I have the same episode twice and I am missing one Episode. I have a funny feeling that these discs are not the originals and I am hoping to get a refund. If it doesn't happen I will report this seller to Ebay for selling Bootleg Copies.
Could someone write and say whether they have noticed the same thing on their Season 1 and Season 2 as well. Would really like to know what's going on here.
I miss this show so much!.......2005-10-03
I love this show and watch a few Season 1 and Season 2 DVDs almost every weekend.
La Femme Two.......2005-09-06
The second season is very well done. The characters seem to show more depth
and the story line keeps you guessing.
Excellent Show and Cast!.......2005-07-18
I will try and boost the average of the rating reviews because this show is SOOOOOOOOO GOOD and it got a lot of negative reviews due to the unfortunate first release of this DVD that was taken away from all of us at the last minute in July 2004 because of WB. It took them awhile to release it a second time with their problems corrected, but we are now at Season 3 and the rest of the seasons will also come eventually I'm sure. LFN has lots of fans out there and I don't think they would like to upset us again...!
La Femme Nikita - The Complete Second Season.......2005-07-07
The order was shipped and received in just a few days. I didn't expect it for a couple of weeks. I'm impressed.

--Tom Keogh

Good Film.......2007-07-06
After the first 20-minutes I thought: "What was I thinking! This is terrible!" but soon after this La Femme Nikita began to pick up pace and developed into a film I really enjoyed. La Femme Nikita is the story of a woman junkie turned state assassin. The movie creates an interesting dialog between violence and the woman's growing reaction to the violence she has to commit. An interesting love twist to further develop the character and that's about the movie. Definitely worth a watch.
La Femme Nikita (Special Edition)..........2007-06-02
I am so torn between the original French Version and the American Remake. But, in the end, I must give the tip of my hat to the original French. An entertaining movie, all the way around!
Original version.......2007-05-12
This movie is the French and original version of the American equivalent. It is so much better though. Unique story, lots of action (violence...) and humor, but still very people oriented. You can't be unsensitive to any of the characters.
Femme Fatale.......2007-04-21
In the world where a woman can handle a gun and be as merciless and seemingly unemotional as any man, the anti- heroine named Nikita (Anne Parillaud in a performance of her life) is given a reprieve from a death sentence by government agents that want to use her as an undercover assassin.
Director Luc Besson made a movie that manages to keep a high level of energy and our interest - from the opening scene - a violent drugstore shootout until the very last moment.
Terrific cast include also Jean-Hughes Anglade (Queen Margot, Killing Zoe), Tcheky Karyo (Kiss of the Dragon, Addicted to Love 1997), Jeanne Moreau - the legend of the French cinema ("Jules and Jim", "Elevator to the Gallows", "Going Places"), and Jean Reno ("Leon", "Ronin")
Stylish, ultraviolent, cynical but strangely engrossing - "La Femme Nikita" is a must see for the fans of clever action movies. Don't bother with the American remake (Bridgett Fonda) or TV series with the same title - see only original.

I missed out on this film for years believing that it would be feminists claptrap, a type of poor mans "Dirty Harry".

Best TV Show in the History of Television, IMO.......2007-03-29
I watched every single minute of every episode USA aired of this absolutely outstanding series! I lived for Sunday nights and it didn't matter where I was or what I was doing, I stopped to watch this show. I actually worked it into my schedule and Sunday nights revolved around this show. I was so heartbroken when they cancelled it due to budget constraints. I still cling to some fleeting hope that someday they will revive the series, but I think that is only a dream at this point.
It's hard to describe what made this show so good. Perhaps it was the irresistable and ever-evolving love story between Michael and Nikita. You were always left guessing: Is this just a Section ploy or does Michael really love her? Will they ever be together? Ooooooo. Titillating! Kept me hanging on week after week! Or perhaps it was the eclectic and fashionable aura the creators were able to infuse into each episode, from Nikita's open-aired apartment, the outfits of the characters, Madeline's private little garden in her "office", or all those deserted back hallways of Section. Or perhaps it was the funky, cool, rhythmic tunes that seemed to find their way into each episode. Depeche Mode, Enigma, Morcheeba, Garbage, Gus Gus, and a whole host of other little-known artists created some ever-so-cool grooves for Nikita, and I have them all on CD. Or maybe it's just the fact that I like a good chick-with-a-gun show where the heroine is a classy, beautiful, bad-mamma-jamma, with a great upper cut and roundhouse kick, fighting against the system for the good of the people!
Whatever it is, La Femme Nikita will remain my favorite TV show for all time...and I doubt I'll ever find another show to replace its stellar standing in my heart. Some shows are just magic, and this is one of them.
Part 'Alias', part 'The Pretender'........2007-03-09
Excellent purchase, high quality boxsets. This is definitely a show worth watching if your interested in espionage, terrorism, moral dilemmas, and value your freedom.
Good deal.......2007-02-21

La Femme Nikita (complete 5 seasons).......2007-02-13
I have always enjoyed the show on TV. It is super great to have the series in hand and watch when I want to or go back to a scene.
Great series
got to love nikita.......2007-01-19
I have been a fan of La Femme Nikita ever since the first seson was on USA. I had stoped keeping up witht he serese for the last two seasons and was real excitred to see where the writers took the story line. Although not highly impressed with the lack of good acting, and obvous budget cutts in season 4 and 5. Still my need to see how it ended was fulfilled and i loved every minute of it!!!

Well Worth the Money.......2006-08-01
This series was written, produced, and acted at a level of quality far above most other TV shows. Few episodes of the best current TV shows come close in quality. Owning the season sets on DVD enables me to re-view them in a better format than video and to store them in a small fraction of the space my videos had required. I am so glad I bought them!
Excellent, excellent show..........2006-04-16
This has got to be one of the best shows that was ever on TV. Yes, it is dark and has an element of despair, but the plots, characters and acting is top-notch. You can see why other shows like Alias pale in comparison.
And for the people who asked, Season 4 will be out on July 25th. See http://tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=5468 for more info.
Maybe your tv is messed up!?!?!?.......2006-01-29
I have watched all the episodes and they are fine. Every season gets better and better.
Defines the post-9/11 era. Top-notch script. cast. and music.......2006-01-15
Ahead of its time when it began in 1997, La Femme Nikita is "Mission Impossible," "Alias," and "24" wrapped up in one show that transcends political and cultural boundaries. During its run, it also broke ground for its hip selection of alternative music.
The show provides well-developed and overlapping story lines; intelligent characters with complicated and wounded souls; cutting-edge wardrobe and set design; and the realistic portrayal of a world in which conflicting Western values, not just American ones, are weighed against one another.
LFN draws attention to the moral ambiguities we face in a global war on terror. Still ahead of its time today, it asks us to weigh the consequences of actions we choose in battling terror -- consequences for our own moral standing, our liberties, our very lives.
The DVD set is worth buying for the original series alone, but it includes numerous behind-the-scenes extras and commentaries that add even more value.
quality of product.......2005-12-26
I am extremely disapointed. the quality of the video was terrible the outdoor scenes are dark and the darker scenes such as a warehouse or nightclub the actors are almost invisible a terrible way to treat such a great series.
