The lessons are set up well, the practice with the band is fun. I haven't gotten all the way through the lessons but progressing through them has been rewarding and I am learning at an acceptable pace.

The only real complaint I have is that the menus are a bit confusing when you first get started, but after a while you will be ok with them.

This DVD is exceptional! Keith Wyatt does a great job of putting you at ease and walking you through all of the basics of playing the acoustic guitar. The Rock, Blues and Country practice songs are great! You can follow animated tabulature or an animated fretboard (very cool) while you play along with the band. The tracks repeat continuously so you don't need to restart the music you just jump back in at the beginning. I highly recommend this!

This is a great product for a beginner guitarist. I've been playing for about 4 years (not very well, I might add) all self taught until now. This DVD is extremely easy to follow, navigate and learn from. It's fixed some of my bad habits. The practice tracks are virtually the same for a lot of the things you learn, which is kind of boring, but that also makes it easier to follow, so take the good with the bad.

Great beginner reference.......2007-06-23

This really is a great starting point for guitar. Keith Wyatt has been around a long time and is a top-notch teacher. The DVD brings you through the basics of chords and scales (all with practice tracks that are very helpful) and then brings you up to example rhythm parts for country/blues/rock and then closes with an example lead part for the same three genres of music.

I learned more from this DVD than I did in a month and a half of lessons with a teacher. I strongly recommend this DVD.

I am a raw beginner, so I did not want a learning dvd with someone playing hard just for playing sake. I have learned much more within just the first few chapters than I have with other lessions.

The pace is good and the instructor pleasant to work with.

A valuable tool .......2006-11-05

This DVD is definitely worth the money. I have never picked up a guitar before so I was starting with no knowledge, however I do have a musical background having played piano for several years. I think the next best thing to actually paying big money for lessons is to use a combination of recommended guitar instruction books and DVD. The DVD gave an interesting approach to learning and allows you to start, stop, rewind, etc so you can practice, review, and try again. It really helps to see the hand and arm positions on the DVD as well. Hard to get that from a book. I think the DVD alone might be tricky but this, in addition to some good books are a great combo. FYI, I would recommend just about any book by Karl Aranjo. Excellent stuff!

I bought this product because I was a new guitar player and I had heard great things about this DVD. Even if you had never held a guitar in your life, this DVD will have you playing a whole song in no time! It is really easy to follow and is really good at telling you what to do to get you to be the best guitar player you can be. It really works! IT's AWESOME! I would recommend it to ANY beginning guitar player.

It's a good thing for me. I don't think you have to understand every thing this dvd shows especially when you are in the beginning. that means you don't have to ask such as why the chode is that or why the Am pantatonic is this. just practise the skill then later you'll get to know why. In my case, I've learned from a tutor for some time. so I understand the principles of chodes and Major or Minor patterns. But the just konwing doesn't make you a good player. In that respect, this dvd contains valuable contents.

Good, but not as good as Level 1.......2007-02-06

As with Level 1, the split-screen video presentation is very effective. Also, there is a good mix of playing songs and learning basic mechanics such as hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, bends, etc. However, the authors seem confused about whether to make this a true follow-on to Level 1 or a stand-alone product, and end up with something that is not quite either one. On the one hand, it starts out with some very basic things (how to hold the guitar, how the strings are numbered, etc.) that are covered in Level 1. On the other hand, there is no book with this one, so if you don't have level 1 you will want to buy a book of chords, as only a few are covered in the video.

I started w/ iPlayMusic's Level 1 product and loved it. This just took my play to the next level. Great lessons, fun songs and still that super-easy video method. There is no better video series out there for learning guitar- period!

I was a new blues guitarist when I purchased this DVD. The examples are great, with good explanations and close ups. Keith's teaching style is also easy to follow. He is well spoken and enjoyable to listen to. There are a lot of great easy licks on this DVD that will get you learning the blues.

With a title like "Ultimate Beginner Series" he assume way too much. He is very good and I have other DVD's by Keith. I just wish they would show you the cords in a box like the other DVD's in this series. In this one you are stuck looking at his hands trying to figure out what to play

Great Work by Wyatt.......2005-08-28

I wish I had found this DVD in 1996 when it came out. I sold my electric in 1993, basically discouraged that I didn't have time for things like rock guitar, which basically requires a band. So I kept my classical guitar and occasionally take it out and learn a new piece. If you want to guage your situation with mine in considering this as a purchase, I'd say I am an intermediate amateur - know a lot of classical and just dabble in rock/folk. My goal right now is to learn some blues, jazz, and rock well enough for some for-fun light gigging and to be able to improvise a bit.

I loved this DVD. It really hit the spot for me and filled in some gaps. For me, it skipped all the basic stuff I already know and provided just the right level of detail. I love the on screen tab, the camera angles on Wyatt's left hand, and the rythm section that lets you play with the band. The DVD is easy to navigate, I just rev up the sections I want to work on and practice right along. I'd say this DVD was worth about 10 guitar lessons, easily (at least the bozo I was working with would try to chat the whole time, show me one tiny song or riff that I could have looked up on the web, and refuse to record or write anything down). With a well-mdae DVD There's no problem remembering what was taught, or problems figuring out what's going on. When the camera angle isn't clear enough, the book with the tablature is right there.

I don't know what else to say. I bought a new electric and I'm just having a blast again with guitar, the blues, et cetera, and I really enjoyed the DVD. I wish Kieth would publish a sequel "steps 3 and 4"! Thanks Kieth, you made my musical life a little brighter and at a great price!

Best of the basic blues DVDs I've found so far........2005-07-30

Lots of material for both rhythm and lead presented very well. Good camera angles, pretty good sound, and an impressive amount of material is covered. Definitely worth the dough!

I found Kieth Wyatt's DVD informative as well as entertaining. The manner with which he instructs is specific and to the point. As a musician as well as a teacher, he is very relaxed, almost encouraging. He breaks down every facet of playing blues into precise instructions. He explains what he's about to do then he does it.

I think that the added feature of having the band tracks available is ideal in that you can apply what you've learned by playing along with it. I'd recommend this to anyone who'd want to start playing, or if they play already, play better.

Good yet Bad at the same time.......2007-04-01

What can I say. If you are first learning get a book instead of this. It goes pretty fast. However against other DVDs on learning this ones great.

Best DVD so far (switched to next to the Fender one).......2007-01-19

When I wanted to play with my new electric guitar (I had long been playing the classic guitar-yes, the one with nylon strings), I tried about 5 DVD/Videos (borrowed them from the Library or Netflix). Because I did not need their lessons, I could quickly browse them (Good Lord. My Laptop's DVD Rom has 2x play function). All of them showed almost same thing, how to tune, how to play several cords, how to strum some rythmes and how to play a few songs. Whatever you buy, they are almost same. The difference was just who gave lessons and how they showed those lessons on the screen.

A lot of the instructors (they were usually renowned guitarists) did not do great job in front of the camera and their teaching stages looked boring, but this DVD presented very pleasantly. I think the two lessons had originally been produced for a TV program, and that made the difference. The lessons were given in a much more excting and interesting manner.

This one was best so far (I think only one I did not try is the one with Fender name on it). Do not buy more than one DVD (because they are all similar). Just try this. In case, you have got another, then just stick to it.

Moreover, keep in mind this kind of video lessons are for ultimate beginners.

I was surprised when I knew my library had purchased the DVD,
"Fender Presents: Getting Started on Electric Guitar" on my request. Any way, I got the DVD, reviewed and change this review.

Lessons in the Fender's DVD is given by the same guitarist, Keith Wyatt. Slightly more formal (therefore this ultimate beginner is more of fun), and contains a way more information. Therefore, I would like to endorse the Fender DVD instead of this. Just with a couple of more bucks, you could get tons of more lessons. In case, you have not buy one yet, then try the Fender's DVD.

I got this dvd when I purchased my guitar, and it really helped me out, by teaching me the simplist thing such as stringing a guitar, reading tabs etc. Then, later on after I was more experienced I went back and learned some of the soloing and improvisational techniques. Very good start.

Not enough instruction and too much theatrics.......2006-01-01

This instructional video actually teaches guitar through story. The story involves a teenager who dreams of being a great guitarist but can't even tune his guitar. Out of no where, a guy named H.E.L.P. appears in his bedroom and attempts to motivate and teach the boy to play guitar. Instruction covers how to hold a guitar and pick, play a few notes, a few chords, and rests. The kid learns to play a simple rendition of "Ode to Joy". That's about it for the story. The supplemental material is actually decent, the highlight of which is covering how to read basic sheet music.

What I look for in this type of DVD is instruction where I can hear the notes and see how they are played. This DVD instead shows you a few chords and notes and gives the rest of the lessons in text form. If that's all you want, you are better off buying a book.

I ordered this CD in hopes of experiencing a good intro to beginning acoustic guitar. What I received, however, was a CD that directed me to a website where, try as I may, I could NOT locate any video instruction as advertised. Perhaps I received a VERY different CD and it was packaged as "Acoustic Guitar Basics" but for my expectations, it was completely useless. I looked for hidden menu choices, but there were none. I only had two choices once the CD opened...proceed to website and exit. If anyone can enlighten me, feel free.

Great Introduction.......2003-02-14

This DVD is much better than the video that came with my Yamaha guitar and it contains all the information a beginner needs to know to get started playing: parts of the guitar, tuning, basic guitar maintenance, how to interpret tablature, popular chords, strumming, fingerpicking, and more advanced stuff like hammer-ons and pull-offs. You'll be playing basic chords in a matter of minutes, and after learning a few you'll follow along while a progression is played on-screen. This part is difficult and will take a bit of practice. In the end you'll have a good foundation for continuing with more advanced instruction.
