Amazon.com essential video
This pop-cultural phenomenon has been performed on stage for more than 50 million patrons in 26 countries for almost 18 years, churning more than $2 billion in ticket sales. Now that Cats has finally made it to the small screen, attention must be paid not just by fans of this critic-proof show, but also by those entertainment mavens who have somehow avoided Cats until now. The video version has been restaged but, alas, not really reconceived for its new medium.
The video cast, assembled from London, Amsterdam, and New York productions, is competent. Ken Page as Old Deuteronomy, Jacob Brent as Mr. Mistoffelees, and Elaine Paige--the original London Grizabella, the Glamour Cat well past her prime--are a great deal more than that. Paige has toned down her theatrical belting of her big number, "Memory," and allowed the faded ruin of her character's soul to prevail in close-up. For all the "covers" of her signature song, Paige's version remains definitive. The video is, by definition, more intimate, not always a good thing: costumes are even more Halloweeny in garish close-up, the cats less cuddly without that all-important interaction, the stage's appropriately midnight lighting transmuted to a Las Vegas neon. And the chorus of cats in production numbers is even clunkier and more amorphous in two- and three-shots.
The one complete newcomer to the cast is the 90-year-old icon among English actors John Mills, a delight as Gus the Theatrical Cat. Sir John and his character show the youngsters how it's done in close-up, largely behind the eyes, abetted by a heart-tugging delivery of his one song. Yet virtually all of the songs are lip-synched, further robbing the video Cats of its onstage seeming spontaneity. It's clearer than ever that Lloyd Webber's music is mostly twaddle, with the important exception of "Memory," which instantly and rightly became one of the genuine theater standards not dependent on context, in the vein of Stephen Sondheim's "Send in the Clowns." On the plus side, most of the Cats characters and lyrics, from T.S. Eliot's 14-poem Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, are far better defined and understood from the video version. --Robert Windeler

Sound quality?.......2007-07-05
Did anyone else notice the lapses in the songs as I did, or am I going deaf?!?! I have both the video and dvd of this production, and it seemed like in the dvd:
1) the tempo in "Rum Tum Tugger" was too slow and,
2) during "The Pekes and the Pollicles", the barks could not be heard.
Strange to me- I'm curious as to whether or not anyone else had the same experience. :)
HATED THIS MOVIE/MUSICAL!!!.......2007-06-19
Oh.. it was horrible! This movie is supposed to be the "greatest of all times" but it's a bore. First of all, the movie (musical) just doesn't make sense. My dad explained to me that they are suppposed to pick some cat to go to earth or something like that. I'm waiting there like forever waiting to see what is going to happen but the cats just keep singing songs about some of the cats in their "tribe". Finally, this person comes and is supposed to choose one of the cats though suddenly they start singing so many songs again. I was so agravated, I left the room.
Later on , when my dad had finished watching the movie, he said that I hadn't missed anything at all.
Also, during the songs about the "tribe, there are people that are wearing revolting costumes and dance in a way that is also pretty revolting.
I would not recommend this movie to anyone unless you think this plot is intresting or unless you have a lot of paitence!
CATS.......2007-05-22
Andrew Lloyd Webber is a true genius. He has taken T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats", a loose collection of poems, and has added characters and songs to create a cohesive story. This is a "staged" production, as opposed to a "stage" presentation. As such, there are aspects of it that are both positive and negative. For those who prefer live theater, you may be a bit disappointed. For those who just enjoy the music and dance, you will not. This format allows for greater instrumentation in the soundtrack as well as permitting some special effects you can't see in a live stage production. The bonus features give some insight as to the process behind the project as well as introducing a few of the performers. Overall, this is a very nice production, despite the exclusion of the story of Growltiger. Was this a move for political correctness?
Cats - The Musical (Commemorative Edition).......2007-05-12
The delivery was fast and the price was fair, but I was disappointed that as a commemorative edition there was no poster, booklet, anything at all in the case other than the cd. It led me to wonder if this was indeed a brand new item as advertised.
This is Awesome.......2007-05-10
I have always been a huge fan of this musical,CATS,ever since I was little I would beg my mom to go to my grandparents house to watch this musical, they had the VHS. I wanted to know how they did everything on this movie. Now that I have the DVD I can watch how they did the make-up,the rehersals, the original broadway show. This is the most Amazing musical ever. It's even better when you watch how they did everything.

Long Tails and Ears for Hats.......2007-07-01
With its catchy theme song, likeable characters and funny plotlines, "Josie and the Pussycats" was one of the best Hanna-Barbera Series ever produced for Saturday Morning television.
Its release on DVD sparks many a memory of Saturday mornings spent in my pajamas as a six year old, enjoying Alpha Bits or Fruit Loops cereal while partaking of the broadcast fare. "Josie and the Pussycats" was a very important part of that ritual. My memories of the show are so vivid that I even remember the "In the Know" segments sandwiched between programs that featured the cast of "Josie" presenting light news features. If memory serves "In The Know" presaged "In The News" which ran for years on CBS Saturday Mornings.
Watching re-runs on Boomerang, I am amazed at how well the show holds up and the 'chase' songs were consistently good. Sure the plots were almost interchangeable, but, so what? The shows were fast paced, hilarious, and to borrow a lyric from the theme, we were invited to "c'mon watch the good guys win."
Unfortunately, this great cartoon premise lasted only a season before producers made the stupid decision to place the characters in Outer Space and for a show with far out plots, this premise was too way-out.
Can't wait to view the original adventures of Josie, Valerie, Melody, Alan, Alexander , Alexandra and Sebastian the Cat with my kids for another generation of enjoyment.

How can you hate a movie that features ninja Siamese cats wreaking havoc with their kung fu prowess? That's one of the highlights in Cats & Dogs, an effects-laden family film that mystifies cat fanciers by casting dogs as the undisputed heroes in all-out warfare with nefarious felines. Hidden headquarters and high-tech gadgets are featured on both sides of this age-old battle. On the feline side, the longhaired Persian Mr. Tinkles (voice of Sean Hayes) plots to sabotage the efforts of Professor Brody (Jeff Goldblum) to discover a cure for human allergies to dogs. On the canine side, stalwart shepherd Butch (voice of Alec Baldwin) trains the mistakenly recruited beagle puppy Lou (voice of Tobey Maguire) to foil Mr. Tinkles's scheme--a mission that begins when Mrs. Brody (Elizabeth Perkins) adopts Lou for her son Scott (Alexander Pollock).
Using combinations of live animals, animatronic puppets, and digital wizardry, Cats & Dogs has just enough imagination to match its effects, climaxing with a feline global-domination scheme involving mice sprayed with chemicals that will make all humans allergic to dogs. Goldblum and Perkins gamely play second fiddles to this menagerie of mayhem, and as madcap "realism" gives way to cartoonish fantasy, the movie escalates into utter chaos, burdened by lame jokes but highlighted by a furry supporting cast including a Saluki hound (voice of Susan Sarandon), a shaggy sheepdog (voice of Michael Clarke Duncan), and a Chinese hairless techno-geek named Peek (voice of Joe Pantoliano). Though never as charming as the Babe movies, Cats & Dogs is harmless fun--especially for dog lovers. --Jeff Shannon

Funny even for Mom and Dad.......2007-05-14
A great kids movie with good actors (Elizabeth Perkins and Jeff Goldblum). Obviously far fetched since there are animals that talk but really very funny even for adults!
From Russia with Love.......2007-04-25
You can see other reviews for the general plotline, but I'd like to give a hearty second to the idea that this movie is fun for the whole family.
My wife and I love it. My 8-year old loves it, and my 2-year old loves it. There are many subtleties you can catch upon multiple viewings, which is a good thing as my daughters like to watch this movie over and over. There are many great one-liners and performances, but "The Russian" is easily my favorite character. Sean Hayes is also awesome as "Mr. Tinkles".
Cats & Dogs.......2007-03-10
Great dvd and was delievered to me quickly and in great condition, thank you.
Who Rules and Who Drools?.......2007-02-12
This is a fun flick to watch for all ages. Comical yarn about supposed secret war between canines and felines for control of the owner population. In the middle is an unsuspecting scientist looking for cure for dog allergies, and the replacement dog for his family, an unsuspecting beagle.
Fun to watch. Delighted to hear that families like to watch multiple times. Kids of all ages who like their humor without the sordid language and violence problems will enjoy this one.
Horrible and misleading........2007-01-27
I saw this movie in theaters when I was 9 because it seemed like a cute story: Cats and dogs in a fight with each other to take over the world. BOY were those commercials misleading. Even back then, I HATED all of those stupid cats and dogs and race cliches. You don't know how tired I am of seeing evil siamese cats that look asian and have funny accents. I would never want my children watching this garbage. It'll just teach them how to hate cats and make fun of asians and russians. There was no humor in it either. None of the jokes were funny.

One of the most memorably offbeat romantic comedies of the 1990s begins when a talk-radio veterinarian named Abby (Janeane Garofalo) takes a call from Brian (Ben Chaplin), the owner of a roller-skating Great Dane. Brian is intrigued by Abby's voice and asks if she'll agree to meet him. Insecure about her looks and her nonexistent love life, Abby agrees, but describes herself as a tall blonde, then begs her attractive neighbor Noelle (played by Uma Thurman) to meet with Brian in her place. The ensuing case of switched identity is complicated when Noelle takes a liking to Brian who, of course, thinks she is Abby. This confusion gains comedic momentum when Abby safely plays herself on the radio and in a long, hilariously seductive phone call with Brian, but by now the situation has grown hopelessly complex, and Abby has to find a way to reveal herself without disappointing Brian. Many viewers rightly complained that the movie relies on the assumption that Abby is unattractive, even though Garofalo is more attractive and appealing here than she'd been in several movies before and since. Still, this contemporary variation on Cyrano de Bergerac is a lightweight, good-natured surprise that values the quirks and foibles that make lovelorn romantics (including their pets) uniquely appealing. --Jeff Shannon
Description
Charming and bittersweet, this modern-day romantic comedy starring Uma Thurman, Janeane Garofalo and Ben Chaplin, explores the beguiling perils of mistaken identity.
Abby (Garofalo), a savvy, witty veterinarian who hosts her own radio talk show, is anything but confident when it comes to love. A petite brunette, she describes herself as tall and blonde when Brian (Chaplin), a caller who is smitten with her radio persona, asks her on a date. She then talks her tall, blonde neighbor Noelle (Thurman) into assuming her identity, setting off an escalating series of hilarious and romantic crises.

The Truth Must Be Told: I like this romantic comedy that echoes "Syrano de Bergerac".......2007-05-02
Janeane Garofalo stars as Abby, a veterinarian who has her own radio show. She is a cultured, educated woman, who is smart, has a good sense of humor and makes a great living. The problem is that her self-esteem is low because she does not find herself attractive being 5'1 brunette who once upon a time while in college had gained 40 pounds. Well, she looked like she lost all of them and she was charming if you ask me (perhaps, it is solidarity of another 5'0 brunette ) but when she developed a relationship over the phone with one of the callers, she tells him that she is 5'10" statuesque blonde who is hard to miss. The blonde (Uma Thurman) happened to be her next-door neighbor, the aspiring model/actress who agrees to go on the date instead of Abby... It may sound like cliché, and the film has several holes in the plot but is very enjoyable thanks to wonderful performance by Janeane and to these words:
"You know how someone's appearance can change the longer you know them? How a really attractive person, if you don't like them, can become more and more ugly; whereas someone you might not have even have noticed... that you wouldn't look at more than once, if you love them, can become the most beautiful thing you've ever seen. All you want to do is be near them."
3.5 /5 or 7/10
A good movie that I would not want to see twice.......2007-04-11
Good actresses, interesting plot. It is a nice comedy, just not one that I would choose to watch again. My 14-year old daughter loved it though and would watch it again! You will have to see for yourself...
Cats and Dogs.......2007-04-11
What a heartbreaker! For a minute ten years back it seemed as if Janeane Garofalo would break out and jump to the head of the pack. She was burning down the house trying to beat the Parker Posey record of having made the most consecutive movies within a twelve month period. Then came this movie and she was forced to confront the Garofalo ceiling, that there would be no big future for her in the movies. People just didn't warm up to her enough. She was funny and sassy and had that amusing deadpan face Sarah Silverman later rode to the top.
And yet there was something smug and repulsive about her, and this movie showed it in spades. She played a radio talk show host and dog expert, who gave sarcastic advice to pet owners about their dogs and cats (hence the title) and who fell in love with the handsomest British man in town. And yet he preferred Uma Thurman to her! Then she decides to masquerade as Uma Thurman--never a bright idea, and one certain to backfire on you. Actually Garofalo isn't a bad looking woman, maybe a little hunched together like Judy Garland but that worked for her in general, but in THE TRUTH ABOUT CATS AND DOGS there were too many uninspired Michael Lehmann shots of her nose to nose with a pitbull or boxer, far too many visual comparisons of her as a dog. Few stars could walk away from this constant barrage unscathed and, of course, she wasn't quite a star. And plus people felt cheated, they had plunked down their $9 to see an Uma Thurman movie, and instead of Uma, the camera was constantly going to Janeane Garofalo! Indeed Uma hardly appears in the last half hour of the movie and none of the remaining characters even mentions her existence! Plus how humiliating for Uma! The credits list "Acting Coach for Uma Thurman," an indignity none of the other actors had to endure. What they should have hired was a "Personality Coach for Janeane Garofalo."
The dog is super cute and they should have just called the movie, "Hank," it would have been a modest success instead of a monster flop.
Jamie Foxx just twiddles his thumbs and glowers in the stereotypical "black best friend" part. What a waste of talent. If Foxx hates white people this must be the reason why and who could blame him!
Great idea gone wrong.......2007-04-10
I am all for the multi-dimensional character. I found Garofalo's role promising in this. She was interesting to watch and was pretty much believable. Uma Thurman was ok too - a little less multi-dimensional but was lovable in a ditsy kind of way. However, the guy picked for leading man was the pits. Perhaps he is a good actor but you really can't tell from this movie. What is it exactly . . . he, honestly, doesn't come across as being smart enough for Garofalo. He's good looking to be sure but . . . boring. I don't believe the movie the second he enters it. I can see her falling for him initially but then getting tired of him because they have nothing to talk about. It would have been much better if he wound up with Thurman and some really interesting leading man showed up or he turned out to be some con man or something. There really was NO chemistry between them and that phone conversation . . . I was frankly embarrassed for Garofalo. I guess I didn't find her character believable in that. This movie really misses the mark - I love the premise - but Garofalo needs a leading man as strong as herself. I own the movie but doubt I will ever watch it again - I could sell it but I would feel like a peddler of shabby wares.
Movie still great, DVD quality leaves a lot to be desired.......2007-04-07
I loved this movie when it first came out, and I still love it, which is why I ordered the DVD. However, the scenes are coming off as dark (as in unlighted) and without needed contrast. There was also one point where the DVD skipped. For less than $6 the DVD was worth it, but if it had been any more I would return it.

Actually, cats do dance, and there are a lot of little cat feet tapping all over this odd animated film. Complaints about originality can't be leveled here; the film works within the confines of the musical genre, but there's never really been anything like this. Danny the cat is from Kokomo, and he's got a short list of things he has to do to become a big star in Hollywood. Unfortunately, he's unaware that animals, even talented ones, aren't even considered for showy parts in films. They're considered window dressing for humans, especially big stars such as Darla Dimple, the unlikely antagonist here. The music is by Randy Newman, and it's not really his best, but toe tapping may occur. The animation is reminiscent of an upgraded Animaniacs, and there's a frenetic, jittery sense to the scenes (mostly dealing with slapstick humor). Older fans of animation or bygone Hollywood will have much more to appreciate here than small children, but that's refreshing in itself. --Keith Simanton
Description
The rags-to-riches story of Danny, a talented cat whose lifelong goal of movie stardom is sidetracked when he discovers only humans get the good roles in Hollywood. On the big screen, animals can bark, meow or moo, but cats don't dance. Danny vows to break through the "species barrier" and prove that dreams really can come true.

Fun romp.......2006-09-24
It may not be a classic but "Cats Don't Dance" is a fun time killer.
PLOT - It's the 1930s and no animal has been able to reach the star status of their human counterparts: Clark Gable, Cary Grant, Joan Crawford, etc. The only thing animals are wanted for is to say animal lines and do stereotypical animal things.
Then from Kokomo, Indiana comes the naive, humble but ambitious Danny (Scott Bakula, throwing out a voice that is decades younger than he actually is and doing his own singing), a fast tapping tap dancer who dreams of being the cat version of Gene Kelly or Bing Crosby, so he comes to Hollywood to seek his fortune, only to find a town full of crushed souls and broken dreams. He also runs afoul of Darla Dimple (speaking voice Ashley Peldon, singing voice Lindsay Ridgeway), a demented, narcissistic child star who is basically an evil version of Shirley Temple but pretends to be the sweet little girl image that the public has of her, which includes loving animals when she really despises them, when he tries to upstage her during the filming of "Little Ark Angel". Did I mention Darla's giant man-servant/hit man/enforcer Max? Despite the set backs, Danny becomes determined to lead an animal revolt that will lead his fellow animal performers to stardom.
Along the way, Danny befriends Pudge, a chubby little penguin just trying to get by, Cranston the crotchety goat (voice of Hal Holbrook), Frances the Marlene Dietrich style fish (voiced by the late Betty Lou Gerson, who also voiced Cruella Deville in the original 101 Dalmations), a warm hearted hippo woman named Tillie (voice of Kathy Najimy), TW Turtle (the late Don Knotts), the mentor figure Woolie the Mammoth (John Rhys-Davies), and of course, the sassy, cynical love interest Sawyer (spoken by Jasmine Guy, sung by Natalie Cole).
All of them had dreams of being song & dance stars, as Woolie explains to Danny. Tillie wanted to sing and dance, Cranston and Frances were a dancing duet, TW had dramatic pirate of penzance in his past, while Woolie himself is actually a very skilled piano player and had hopes of writing music for the movies, but instead he became the Mammoth Studios mascot, putting on giant tusks and blowing his snout at the beginning of every Mammoth Studio picture, much like the roaring lion at the beginning of the MGM films (he probably lucked out better than the others did in that respect). We even learn that Sawyer too once dreamed of song & dance stardom, as she was quite a dancer herself and had what Woolie called "the voice of an angel" (though it's really more along the lines of Diana Ross); Woolie even thought that Sawyer would be the one to break through. Woolie instructs Danny that Hollywood will never appreciate animal actors enough to give them their time in the spotlight, but this only strengthens Danny's resolve and, the next day, Danny gets Woolie and Pudge to join him in rallying the other animals together and inspiring them to fight for their right to be stars; he even gets Sawyer in on the back alley boogie, luring her into a pleasant fantasy where she gets to show off her dance moves, but she quickly breaks loose from it and tells Danny that it'll never happen.
What Danny doesn't know is that Darla is on to him and, fearing that Danny and his animal cohorts might threaten her stardom, she tricks Danny into believing that she'll help him and lets him use her sound stage to from "Little Ark Angel" to perform for studio head L.B. Mammoth (voice of George Kennedy). Danny then rallies his fellow animals together, taking Darla's advice to make it "big & loud", and even gets Sawyer in on the act, still unaware of Darla's plot to destroy him. Darla KO's Pudge and then plays havoc with the special effects on the sound stage, resulting in a giant water mass spill out that engulfs both LB and the director Flanigan, leads to much mayhem on the studio lot and a fight between Sawyer & Danny. When the animals are all unceremoniously fired, Darla shows up to add insult to injury, exposing that she was the one who gave Danny use of the sound stage, making him even less popular with his already angry cohorts. Even Woolie tells Danny to just go home. The next night while Cranston, Frances, TW and Tillie lament their woes and blame Danny for ruining their already miserable careers, Sawyer takes to the rainy streets and sings of her own disillusionment with the industry and her confused feelings for Danny, which Tillie overhears and encourages her to go catch Danny before he leaves town. Danny, depressed and dejected over the calamity he has brought unto himself and his friends, miserably boards a bus back for Kokomo, leaving behind his hat for Sawyer to find and his list for how he would succeed, which leaves Sawyer tearful, heart broken and alone.
But naturally Danny's resolve kicks back in and, with help from Pudge, he makes a desperate last ditch effort to break the barrier, by bringing his closest friends to the premiere of Darla Dimple's new film, where they sing and dance their hearts out, wowing the audience, and exposing Darla for the evil little thing that she is and destroying her career. From there Woolie, Tillie, TW, Pudge, Frances, Cranston, and of course, Sawyer & Danny, become big stars, headlining animal versions of "Superman", "Batman & Robin", "Grumpy Old Men", "The Mask", "Beetle Juice", "The Witches of Eastwick", and "Singing In The Rain", among others.
Surprisingly entertaining due to its unabashed good naturedness and breezy songs. Above average animation too.
Secretly Great.......2006-08-28
This movie is one of a number of truly great animation productions put out during the "Second Golden Age" which have been a bit overlooked (Family Dog, Iron Giant, Balto). The animation is dynamic, the pacing is perfect, the design is amazing, the soundtrack is a classic (currently selling for as much as $90 on Amazon), the story is strong, and the dance numbers ("Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now!") are among the best ever in animation. Yes, the film is full of cliche characters and the plot is a bit saccharine, but somehow they pulled off the perfect mix to create this very engaging film. It's a shame that Warner Bros. never really built on this effort and effectively torpedoed the project with poor marketing. Anyone lucky enough to discover the film now should be very happy with it. It deserves to be remembered as a classic.
FELINE FROLICS.......2005-12-15
CATS DON'T DANCE is a toe-tapping, unusual little animated film featuring a host of musically inclined animals, headed by the stubborn and determined cat of the title. As voiced by Scott Bakula, the cat is determined to make it big in Hollywood, where animals aren't supposed to be stars. His nemesis turns out to be Darla Dimple, a Shirley Temple rip-off, who is really more demon than child. Darla and her bodyguard Max are actually the funniest characters in the movie and they steal any scene they're in. With a so-so score by Oscar winner Randy Newman, CATS DON'T DANCE is an entertaining movie, with some bouncy musical numbers and the message that quitters never win.
Loved it!!.......2005-06-17
Since it came out, I loved the movie, "Cat's Don't Dance". My favorte from the cast wuld have to be both Sawyers, Jasmine Guy (A Different World), and Natalie Cole.
The story is filled with some drama, a lot of comedy, horror brought to you by a scary antagonist, and a little romance to seal in the holes. Characters are lovable in this film, such as Millie, Pudge, Sawyer, and Danny, the tabby-cat protagonist.
The soundtrack is even better, with catchy tunes, and Natalie Cole. (Tell me Lies, Nothing Ganna Stop us Now), and others.
A great movie and a great sountrack.
This Movie's Good.......2005-02-01
I like this movie a lot. It's got great characters, pretty good songs, and Lovely (in my opinion) animation. There are just some things about it that killed the box office.
First, the introductions to all the songs with Danny are really quite hideous. After that, the songs are good, but the bad intros just spoil it. Not to mention the--hmmmm--INTERSESTING choice of music on the opening credits. What fathomable reason is there for putting an annoying pop song over the opening credits of a 30'S-STYLE ANIMATED MUSICAL? The opening credits themselves are pretty neat--roadsigns and sights with names on them--but the pop song just kills it.
Second, it has some parts specifically for kids, and some parts specifically for grown-ups, making the movie end up for neither to sit through.
Also, the story doesn't QUITE stand up to scrutiny--why would Darla choose NOW to try to get rid of the animals? Just because Danny showed up? What did HE have that was so special? The animals had all tried the audition thing before, why would it work now? And why would Darla worry? She CAN sing and dance! If they had made it so that she didn't actually have talent, THAT would have made a better story point, but they'd still need to fix some things.
In short: lovely little movie, it just needs a few bugs worked out. The designs, characters, and coreography (by Gene Kelly-- the star of "Singin' in the Rain") are to die for. Yeah, the story could make more sense, but watch it for the animation and design and overall charm, if nothing else. (Still have doubts? Look at it this way: The director went on to do "The Emperor's New Groove", so this can't be THAT bad!)

They're good against evil...........2007-05-14
Yowsah, yowsah, I couldn't believe I found this!!! Jim Lee's XMen...er, Wild C.A.T.S. was an underrated series with one of the best theme songs in cartoon history. XMen may have been a better comic book cartoon but Wild C.A.T.S. had the better theme song. Spartan, Grifter and Zealot were incredible but I didn't like how they family-ized Voodoo's stripper background. Would have loved to see an appearance from Stormwatch or Gen 13 but hey, to get a full complement of episodes was wonderful to me. My kids won't get it but this is the perfect series to complement your Justice league, XMen: Evolution and Batman cartoon collections.
wild CATS.......2006-06-26
I remembered this as one of the best animated comic books I had seen on TV when I was a kid. I just happened to come across it on the web and decited to get it. All the extras was great, The only problem I had was the 1st disc didn't want to play on my DVD player but I sent it back with no problems and got another one the next day If you are a die hard Wild CATS fan of the comics you might notice some changes in the charecters backgrounds but as for me I saw the cartoon first and then read the comics.
GREAT DVD release!.......2006-05-23
Glad this underrated and near-forgotten show got a DVD release. I enjoyed this show on saturday morning's, a neat alternative to the 90's X-Men toon. Back in the day i thought the theme song was really cool&catchy and still do today, beats out the 90's X-Men intro. Suprised ONLY 13 episodes were made.
This DVD release is good. Menus are not animated at all, your standard still frames but that is not a bad thing. Quality-Wise its like high-quality VHS copies were put onto the discs, Very nice, but still lacks the vibrate,Spiffy DVD-quality treatment. Extras are alright with character bios and a interview with Jim Lee. Overall, sweet release that was long overdue with this show.
Gary M........2006-01-13
It's as if the writers of 80s He-Man teamed up with the animators of 80s GI Joe and decided to rip off 90s X-Men.
So-so comic makes for poorly inspired cartoon.......2005-10-19
Jim Lee is undoubtadly one of the most influential and revered comic artists of his time, making a name for himself with Marvel's smash X-Men titles in the late 80's/early 90's, and he continues to pencil hits today with his more recent runs on DC's Batman and Superman titles. Wild C.A.T.S. (standing for "Covert Action Teams") was Lee's attempt to strike his own way with his then new imprint Wild Storm and Image (Wild Storm would be bought out by DC a few years later), and Wild C.A.T.S. attempted to be the line's flagship title. The comic itself was average, sausage-fest, militant team action, and it tried way too hard to be edgy. This animated series, which didn't last very long, attempted to steal Fox's hit animated X-Men series' thunder by having a cast of X-Men clones (the stalwart leader, the berserker badass, etc.) and some lame action sequences. Not to mention, but the dialogue is attrocious and the storylines themselves are pretty incoherent. There are a few, brief, shining moments to be found in this Wild C.A.T.S. DVD set, but very few, and the list price is unbelievably high for what all is here. All in all, if you were a fan of the comic and/or series, check this out, but for the rest of us, let's just hope and wait for Fox's X-Men series to get season releases.

Discover the secrets of the jaguar's hidden world in "Jaguar: Year of the Cat," the most complete, compelling, and intimate portrait of the most powerful jungle cat in the Americas ever recorded.
Customer Reviews:
Superb photography, bone-chilling hunting scenes.......2007-01-10
This two-part documentary is superbly shot, nicely put together and has many hunting scenes that are expertly shot. One long scene in particular - about lionesses jumping on and killing a buffalo - is bone-chilling. There are some other scenes of smaller cats jumping in the air to catch a bird that is already airborne that you would never believe until you saw them.
The photographers are a couple that has spent over 14 years shooting in Africa. They have introduced techniques of shooting wildlife film that are unusual and enable them to get so close to the predators that you can almost smell them! The DVD is nicely put together, in good sequence and is very compelling viewing. The photography is top quality and the narration and editing very good. Highly recommended.
Great wildlife documentaries.......2006-04-11
This DVD containing two NATURE programs is a great bargain. "Chasing Big Cats" shows hunting techniques of Africa's large cats: Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and the elusive Serval and Caracal. It has some of the most extraordinary hunting footage I have ever seen. "Jaguar, Year of the Cat" covers a year in the life of Jaguar in central-American country of Belize. Supporting cast of this documentary is the exotic fauna and flora of tropical forest with crisp and vivid scenes throughout.
Both programs live up to high standards of wildlife filmmaking that we have come to expect from the NATURE series. The DVD has my highest recommendation.

cartoons you don't find anymore.......2007-01-26
i loved heathcliff growing up. the show always made me laugh.it is a shame that the cartoons of today are nothing like what i watched growing up.Heathcliff is a cat that thinks he owns the street where he lives with family. Heathcliff gets into all kind of trouble. the second half of the show is with the catillac cats who live at the dump on heathcilffs street. the gang is run by Riff Raff who has the hots for Cloe who lives in a music shop with a dog named Butch. Between heathcliff and riff raff you never no what is going to happen.
Bought and enjoyed for the Catillac Cats.......2006-11-30
I watched this series as a kid and only relatively recently was reminded of it. It's a unremembered classic...at least, the second half with Riff Raff and Cleo is. I don't know about the Heathcliff parts, thinking back on it I'm pretty sure that those parts were the ones that bored me(and most people watching the show), despite Mel Blanc's voice talent. The plots are often a bit weak, and the Heathcliff character isn't dynamic enough to save them. I soon started skipping those episodes and you probably will too.
The DVD is not up to "DVD quality." If you just want to watch, it's acceptable, but there is no sign of any special treatment or restoration given to the original video, and you can occasionally see speckling, color bands at the edges, and muddiness in some clips. Sometimes the audio is a bit distorted, which is disappointing since the music in this show is pretty good.
Now I want the second season...
Quality Issues On An Otherwise Great Cartoon.......2006-07-29
I was so excited to find out HeathCliff and the Catillac Cats, one of my favorite cartoons from the 1980's was released on dvd. After viewing some of the episodes I found that they were still as entertaining as I remembered them.
Now for the problems, the picture quality could be much better. The picture has these little flicks of black and white lines in them that come and go very rapidly.(I can't think of any other way to describe them). Also, some episodes from the first disk have a wavy like appearence in the backround on the left hand side in a few scenes. I know these issues are not due to a defective copy as several people I know have copies that due the same thing. If you are willing to overlook these small problems and you love Heathcliff then I would recommened buying this DVD set.
AWESOME!!!.......2006-06-16
This cartoon is sooooooooooooooo underrated.
As a kid, I was the most hyperactive person you could've possibly known.
I absolutely could not sit still and I gave my teachers migraines constantly and get this, I was even worse in the summertime.
With that in mind, I only got to watch this cartoon in the summer and it kept my full attention each time.
Too bad for the unfortunate victims that happened to get stuck monitoring me and my friends in the summer, these episodes were too short.
Not a problem with this set.
If you have kids, get this cartoon. I guaranty it'll get their attention.
Quality is excellent compared to what I was expecting. You even get the Heathcliffe life lessons that were attached to the end of each episode!!

A great piece of work.......2007-04-21
There need to be more documentaries like this to show the world the truth....how so many Armenians suffered at the hands of murderers. The Armenian Genocide is not "propaganda" and people need to stop the denial! Turkey needs to step up and admit what it has done. Goldberg has done a great job and I hope he continues to spread the truth.
TRUTH HURTS, BUT HANT BE HIDDEN!!!!.......2007-04-14
Great job Goldberg, I am very impressed. I believe the individuals who contested against your movie were turks, dont take it to heart, that was very informative... I am Italian, and I admire the Armenians with a passion. They have suffered about 2 million which is what they have estimated to claim. They are very intelligent, and humanist. Turks need to put their differences aside and recognize the past to move into the future. By the way here is a fact for you... Did you know that the day the Armenian people morn for the victims of the genocide is APRIL 24. Its funny because I visited Turkey last year and the government is so corrupt there they brainwash the turkish people and they have placed APRIL 24 as a day of celebration on their callender. They BRAINWASH the turkih people into believing it didnt exist, so they will say about anything to sa it didnt happen... The last few reviews are competely false and confabulated stories, I dont understand why turkish people make fools of themselves by saying such garbage, Goldberg is not an Armenia name people, Cmon, its as if we are taking credit away from people who take time to put things together to reveal the truth....
Biased propaganda buy .......2007-04-12
The Armenian Genocide is a biased piece of propaganda, if you want a truly impartial view of the events buy and view "The Armenian Revolt" by Martin Callaghan an independent US producer it is much more professional and impartial in it's production.
What the Armenian Genocide does not tell you is that the Armenians started revolting and murdered over 500,000 thousand Turks to begin with. Further, the statistics used in the program are bogus. Even according to Armenian Sources there were not 2 million Armenians living in the Ottoman Empire during that period. Further, at the end of World War 1 the Ottoman Empire ceased to exist and the British controlled the former Ottoman Capital of Istanbul. They conducted a witch hunt, they arrested 144 Ottoman Officials of the leadership including the then eqivulant to the prime minister and conveyed them to their island colony of Malta. After two and a half years of exhuastive inquiries they could not find any evidence whatsoever to charge any of them let alone convict. All 144 Ottoman Officials were released and allowed to return home. Further the investigator Lord Curzon (well known for his hatred of Turks) asked the US Government of the day to provide any evidence they may have had in their possession. An answer came back that the US did not have any evidence with which to use against the Ottoman leadership.
What the Armenian Diaspora could not achieve via armed conflict and legal means is now trying to achieve politically and by using propaganda like this particular documentary. There is always two sides to every story and the Armenians will not allow the Turks to put theirs forward.

Excellent Review of WWI Genocide to Present Turkish Government Denial.......2007-02-10
The one-star reviews are by Turks who might as well be Nazis denying the Jewish Holocaust or Shoah during WWII. Germany was an ally of the Ottoman Empire in WWI, and thousands of German soldiers observed these massacres of disarmed labor battalians of Armenian men, or women, and children and helpless old men walked to their death, or murdered in many horrible ways. See also "Germany and the Secret Genocide" DVD, which illustrates how the truth has disappeared. The one-star reviews are highly offensive. In Germany Jewish Genocide denial is against the law. In Turkey Armenian Genocide denial is the law, and selling this DVD in Turkey would be against Turkish law, article 301. A Turkish-Armenian newspaper editor was murdered in Istanbul in January 2007 who had been prosecuted by the Turkish government for expressing this truth about history. Everyone should see this documentary to help combat evil. "All it takes for evil to win is for good people to do nothing!"
one side only.......2007-01-20
Those who buy this DVD should be aware that the documentary takes one part only. Armenians lived with the Ottoman for more than 500 years without any problems. The problems started with the rebelian Armenians and the trader Armenians. The government forced the Armenians to leave their places. There is no way you can have more than 1 million people in the eastern city of Van in Turkey. This kind of movies are strongly supported by the Armenian lobbies.
