Billed as an updating and retelling of Irish folk legend, Lord of the Dance is less Erin Go Bragh than Hooray for Hollywood. Michael Flatley, late of Riverdance, gives us the old razzle-dazzle, fashioning a Celtic-influenced spectacular that wanders far away from its Riverdance roots. The light-show presentation is closer kin to another contemporary Irish musical group, U2. Flatley himself has gone designer chic. With close-cropped haircut, earring, buffed abs, and tight black pants he bears more than a passing resemblance to Bono. But you have to hand it to the guy--he works hard for the money, as does his attractive corps. The one maddening aspect of this glitzy, entertaining 90-minute festival is the overzealous editing. No image remains on screen for more than a few seconds. Neither Flatley nor his talented troupe deserves to have such craftsmanship sliced and diced like an MTV music video. --Richard Natale

Lord of the Dance.......2007-06-27
This was a gift for my young 10 year old grand child who has been doing Irish dancing for 5 years. This DVD has been a great inspiration for she and her friends. It is very exciting viewing for the adults too.
The Michael Flatley Collection.......2007-06-12
It is enough to buy just "Feet of flames". It's his summit of glory the rest is reiteration. DVD was interesting to watch though even the same theme in different variations. The bad thing was that DVD I got has a defect. One of first dances stops in begining with pixels on the screen. But becouse disk has some reiterations I was able to wach it in another episode.
Great Dancing.......2007-04-02
This was a very good DVD for the money. I loved Riverdance and I had a VHS copy of Lord Of The Dance. My nieces both dance and enjoyed watching this with me.
Takes your breath away.......2007-03-09
This review and replay of various versions of Lord of the Dance, is without question, a must for a DVD library. Be prepared to spend an entire evening being captivated by Michael Flatly. Absolutely superb!!
The Greatest Bargain Under the Sun.......2007-03-08
Without a doubt, this DVD has to be the greatest bargain ever. Three videos(over 5 hours) of Michael Flatley dancing and discussing his music career for under $15 is unbelievable.

Feel The POWER!.......2007-06-01
Lord of the Dance is one powerful DVD. Everytime I watch Michael Flatley dance I want to get up and dance too. The music is only over shadowed by Flatley's ability to dance on the notes themselves. If you love Irish music and dance, do not miss this DVD. Thank you.
Okay production, but editing is terrible........2007-05-25
I am a fan of the original Riverdance show, and I wanted to see Flately's show to see if he could bring the same magic to his own production as he did to the Doyle/Whelan collaboration. Well, I have to say that Lord of Dance was a disappointment for me ...what I loved about Riverdance was the evocative music and choreaography that drew the me in with its mystery and passion. Flately's storytelling is too literal (example: The "evil" black-masked army of Celtic men . They looked more silly than menacing). Also, I didn't quite understand the function/role of the gold-lame dancer girl/boy with the flute (story teller, maybe?) or the role of the red-dressed woman. There were some genuine dance moments, a few "wow, how did they do that" moments but they are few. I was also very distracted by the garish costumes and Vegas-style lighting. The sillines of the this whole production was capped of by the six (or was it seven?) encores at the end of the show. I had heard that Flately was very egotistical, but I thought it was just a made up rumor ...well, it isn't. He stood there for about ten minutes at the end of the show taking his bows and pumping his fists "yes!" the way I have seen comedians do when they make fun of him, and it was almost too comical to watch ...I'm glad I only rented this DVD ...I would have returned this if I had actually bought it.
One more thing ...probably the thing that bothered me the most about Lord of the Dance was the video editing. The camera angles changed so often that it's hard to tell how a scene is supposed to flow ...all of the switching back and forth almost gave me a headache and I almost turned my DVD player off completely. Maybe if the editing had been better, I would have liked this production a little more.
Michael Flatley-Lord of the Dance.......2007-05-17
I was pleased as peaches to finally locate Lord of the Dance on Amazon.com. I had searched in alot of different places for it. Throughout the production there is an air of enthusiasm that causes my spine to tingle. I love the Clectic music presented as well as the untiy of the dancers. I could tell that each one of them spent many hours practicing and rehearsing. If you like Clectic Music and Irish Dancing, this is an absolute must see!
I love Lord Of the Dance.......2007-04-05
I remember this performance when it first came out. It was amazing, the colors and the music and you can't forget the DANCING. This DVD is great and I'm so glad I was able to find after so many years.
Excellent Product.......2007-03-23
Lord of the Dance is an Amazing play. The DVD captures Micheal Flately's performance very well. I highly recoment this product especially to anyone who loves Irish music.

Editorial Reviews
~ Amazon.com ~
An expanded and more polished version of Lord of the Dance, Feet of Flames was recorded at an outdoor performance in London's Hyde Park. While much of the material is familiar to Flatley fans, the production is superior in every way. It's better photographed and the editing is less frenetic. The individual segments are sharper, more self-assured, as is Flatley, who also produced and directed this version. (He also demonstrates his talents as a flutist--maybe he should call himself Lord of the Renaissance.) The outdoor setting also makes the show feel less like a Vegas act, though the proceedings have about as much relation to their Celtic folk roots as the Broadway musical Cats has to the T.S. Eliot children's poems on which it was based. [Richard Natale -- This text refers to the VHS Tape edition.]

The Feet Flame Lord of the Dance Tiger.......2007-01-03
On this beautifull book I found the real meaning of the phrase: "nothing is impossible". Michael was growing in a very poor place but also was surrounded with a lot of love, faith, self confidence and hard work. He realy has a unique natural talent and a very a wide and sensitive heart. Michael describes in the book his life with very special way. He shares us with his thoughts, feeling and even admites his weakness for music, dance, beautiful women and good whisky.
As a fan of Michael Flatley I enjoy every part of the book, including the pictures, but I think that the story of this man makes each part of us to follow our dreams and believe that: "Nothing is impossible".
A True Pro.......2006-12-19
This is exactly what I was looking for when, at the end of the day, I just want to go somewhere else. Well written, humourous and full of inspiring challenges we can all learn from, the only thing that made me think sadly for his life is my knowledge of Alice Miller and her book 'Drama of the Gifted Child." It seems his mother is not too fond of him - 'an inability to show feelings' is how he puts it and this is corroborated by impartial collegues of his - and yet it seems he blames himself. I was left wondering - after his aquisition of luxury homes, achievements, awards, ferrari's, rolls royce's etc. - if he somehow has been running from grief-turned-into-ambition. He cries in his book, one day wondering if he, himself, missed out on what life is really all about. If he would read Drama of the Gifted Child he could free himself from the compulsion to achieve by legitimate grief over never having his mother's love. I adore him - as do many others - but he must learn to like himself on the off days, on the days no one applauds. In order to do this he needs to acknowledge what our society never allows children to do: be angry at parents for failing to provide love. Instead, so many children turn that anger on themselves (via suicide) or into ambition.
It's a long way from Chicago to $1.6 million a week.......2006-06-01
Michael Flatley is probably the most famous dancer in the world. He was the defining star of 'Riverdance' which became a surprising hit the world over. When it came on the scene it brought dance to the forefront where it hadn't been since the Fred Astaire days.
The chances of a boy from Chicago becoming as well known in dance has to be about the same as for him to get a Superbowl ring. The progression from those first classes, the chance of making the next step up the ladder, and finally a breakthrough as happened with 'Riverdance.' And the result is evident in his weekly salary of $1.6 million.
Mr. Flatley has had an interesting career. Not all sweetness and light by any means. He has had a turbulent love life, a failed marriage, yet he continues to develop new dance shows that bring a style to dance that has definitely attracted the attention of the world audiences.
This is a very well written biography, bringing a candor not often seen in such books.
Inside Michael's Heart.......2006-03-22
I received the book in my mailbox on a Saturday afternoon and finished it by Sunday evening. Like Michael's shows, it's mesmerizing and uplifting. He's had a childhood like so many kids in big cities (and small, with neighborhood ruffians and the like, for that matter) and many childhood adventures we readers can relate to. It's a fascinating progression from his childhood to his rise through the ranks of dance competitions to where he is today, with all of the passion you'd imagine added in. I literally gasped out loud a few times.
Those of us who happily declare ourselves to be "FLATHEADS" will be thrilled with this revealing look into some of what makes Michael who he is - a very real human being with extraordinary determination born from his Irish roots and the tenderness of his grandmother, father, and certain special people along the way. I especially enjoyed the way the book has perspective comments all along the way from many of the pivotal people in his life. The reader gets a real look at what drives Michael as an artist and a man, and I noted that his capacity for love, forgiveness, spirituality and joy is what has allowed him to finally receive the acclaim and success and true friendships he's worked so very hard for. And Michael himself is a great storyteller here, just as he is on stage. My only regret is that we Americans haven't been able to get our hands on the music CD's he's created, now that we know they're out there. Won't someone PLEASE market them in the U.S.!!?
I've seen Michael Flatley on stage once in Lord of the Dance and twice in Celtic Tiger and if God smiles on us, I hope to see him again. After reading his biography, I had to pop "Michael Flatley Gold" into the DVD player. Well written and edited, you'll really enjoy this book. I promise!
A gem of a book.......2006-03-06
What a fantastic opportunity to meet the man who reinvented Irish dancing and put it on top of the world stage.
Heretofore inaccessible to the non-initiated, you can find his extraordinary personality and the history behind his success. Having risen from a terrible neighborhood in Chicago, having suffered all kinds of aggravations, he remains sweet in his heart. A real gentleman, he has never an unpleasant word; in the whole book, you can hardly find a negative thought. We have a chance to see things through his eyes, to feel his bewilderment and his pain and to rejoice in his triumphs. To read it is to see and to listen to him. I've fallen asleep with my eyes wide open, my hands clutching the book.
What a privilege to be able to read so much firsthand. What an honor it is that he chose to share so much.
