5 out of 5 stars LOVE IT.......2007-05-24

This was on of my favorite movies, I love Ozone Turbo and Kelly, she really cannot hip hop dance but she was trying. I love the plot and I loved how they beat Electro Rock in the end and they all ended up dancing together.

5 out of 5 stars Breakdancin' Passion.......2007-05-17

I remember going to Smiths, with my mom as a child, and renting this movie at least three times a week. I couldn't get enough of it. I would watch this movie with such enthusiasm, that I can't even remember what else I would do as a child, besides riding my bike and going to school. I would try my best to practice the moves in the movie, and work on my locking and popping skills. But then the Smiths store in our town closed, and I eventually forgot about Breakin', slowly it slipped from my mind.
But even now, as I remember the movie, the dance moves and hip-hop music is just as awesome and addicting as it was when i was a kid.
It is true, that the plot is lacking... but this movie is about passion for dancing! and it's the dancing that makes up for the questionable acting and story line. The not so great story and acting is actually good for a laugh, making the movie worth while as an unintentional comedy. This movie serves it's purpose as entertaining and ejoyable to watch, that is, if you enjoy marveling at talented breakdancer's grooving to rad music. I will always love this movie, even if some might not agree with me, it is indeed, worth a watch.

UPDATE: 7 June 2007, I just watched Breakin' and I still love it just as much as i did then. Some of the parts were a little cheezy, but it really didn't matter, I also have rekindled my love for Ozone. YAY!

UPDATE: 18 June 2007, I have now watched it with a group of friends and we laughed and made fun of the cheezy parts, but also enjoyed and wowed the dancing, and sometimes, funny dancing scenes. This movie is still one of my favorites, in the category of crazy 80's movies. YAY!

3 out of 5 stars Break out the cardboard box!.......2007-03-23

Just like I remember it. Not as intense as the new breakin' moves these days, but just as fun to know how it all began.

If you grew up in that era, I know you'll dig this movie. Brings back so many breakin' and poppin' memories, just don't try it at your age...ha! Just kidding...enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars This is the classic! This is how you learn about breakdancing!.......2007-02-07

But what I wanna do is show you where this movie led me! Once I saw this I knew I had to learn breakdancing. I bought like every breakdancing video on amazon and my favorites are How To Do The Robot - Breakdance Instructional DVD or Top 20 Breakdance Moves. I love breakdancing so much I just want everybody to be able to do it.

So get this video and then get those ones later when you really wanna learn HOW to dance like they do in this movie.

5 out of 5 stars great .......2007-01-10

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Just ok.......2007-06-20

If your a newbie to dance, I think she goes to fast. If your advanced, the moves arent all that.

4 out of 5 stars A really good start..........2007-06-05

This hip hop dvd is a great start for anyone wanting to learn and practice at home. It is not a substitute to taking a live dance class with a teacher and students, though. Laurie Ann Gibson is a little over the top when you first watch it but then you start to realize that her energy is really good to keep you going. The moves are progressively challenging and the instruction is pretty good. I bought my own copy after renting it from the library. I really liked it enough to buy one. It is not worth full price but best to buy it from a reseller. Good luck, this hip hop dvd is fun and challenging. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn hip hop.

5 out of 5 stars Breakin' it down really does break it down!.......2007-01-28

I love this DVD i have several learn to dance DVD's and this is by far the favourite. Laurie Ann does tend to flog the fact she has choreographed for brandy, and alica keys etc, but the chorography in this dvd really it fantastic, she has 3 levels of experience beginner to advanced. She breaks down all the dances so they are easy to learn. i did find howevre that she does move fast through them and i found i had to rewind a bit to learn it but other then that its a great dvd. Theres a freestyle section doesn't teach you anything in fact if your getting it just for that forget you'll be disappointed! But the routines are some so the most fun, easily learn and original i have done. LOVING IT!

3 out of 5 stars Just Ok..........2007-01-27

I purchased this dvd for my daughter as she is into the art(s) of dancing. I asked her to critique it, her reply was it was just ok. I asked her for details to which she replied, she has great respect for Laurie Ann but was disappointed and expected more. The dance/instructions were not as challenging as she expected. It's ok for someone very new to hip hop dancing.

4 out of 5 stars Top Notch.......2006-11-11

Easy to learn when you have some sort of dancing experience. Great and unique techniques. Very smooth. Recommended to anyone who wants to dance hip hop.

5 out of 5 stars Cool.......2007-05-24

I liked this movie, I did not like it as much as one, they tried to make it more colorful and used a bigger plot, but all they had to do was dance and those were the best parts in the movie, this is still a classic.

4 out of 5 stars Nostalgic.......2007-05-15

The film is somewhat cheesy as to be expected of an 80's movie about breakdancing but you will enjoying re-living those days while watching it. Fun to watch with your kids if you have any.

4 out of 5 stars So Colorful!.......2007-03-23

I love the costumes in this one. They were so bright and colorful. With the same characters from Breakin' and some new faces, you'll love the moves in this movie.

My son is into break dancin and he really enjoys watching this one over and over again.

It amazes me how something like B-boyin' that is so inventive, exhilerating, and positive could have only been in the mainstream media for less than 2 years (circa 1983-1985) but a fad like being a gangster (that is so negative), has been in the mainstream media for nearly 18 years! (NWA introduced it in the late 80's). It's sad to see that Hip Hop has turned into the very thing that it swore to diminish.

Jamie Foxx proves a winning romantic lead in the surprisingly subtle Breakin' All the Rules. When Quincy (Foxx, Ali, Collateral) gets brutally dumped by his fiancee, he researches the psychology of firing employees to create a break-up guide--a guide to a kinder, gentler break-up. His cousin Evan (Morris Chestnut, The Brothers) is afraid that his girlfriend is going to dump him, so he asks for Quincy's help, setting in motion a web of mistaken identities that snares Evan's girlfriend Nicky (Gabrielle Union, Bring It On), Quincy's boss Philip (a wonderfully squirmy Peter MacNicol), and a blithe gold digger named Rita (Jennifer Esposito, Dracula 2000). Writer/director Daniel Taplitz gives his characters, if not three dimensions, then two and a half--comedy comes out of their personalities instead of lame gags. Add in some unpredictable plot twists, genuine chemistry between Foxx and Union, and the result is genuinely fun. --Bret Fetzer

3 out of 5 stars Note to Self:: If You need to Break up Get Jamie Foxx to Do It!.......2006-06-06

Well, first ya gotta look at what type of movie it is. By no means was it planned out to be an Oscar Winner, or a Blockbusting Special Effects Movie...It's just plain Funny. You have about 3 or 4 misdirections in the fact that Quincy (Foxx)is sent his friend Evan(Chestnut) To break-up with E.'s Girl Niki. Who has a feeling that is what is happeneing so she lies and says her name is Mary. So all Chaos insues. But in the end everyone gets the girl; it's a Funny comedy of Errors. As usual Jamie Foxx is funny as ever, and aside from the main plot there are little side things that make you laugh.
I only gave this movie a 3 because I'm comparing it to ALL the other movies...but as far as a comedy Date movies this bad boy is a 4.5+. So I Hope you find this review useful. And Yes the tips in the movie actually are useful. I only gave them a "Field Test" Once...but they worked like a charm. This isn't the same type of movie as Brown Sugar, or any of the other movies that are billing like this one. It is truely in a class of its own. Got a lil' something for the guys to laugh at, and the girls to get a little something out of too.
One thing is for sure...she'll definately understand after watching the movie why the words "Baby we need to Talk" Scare a dude to death. Enjoy Guys!

5 out of 5 stars HELP...!!! Need to find song from this moive. C'mon.......2005-05-31

I have been looking everywhere for this song. I can not find it on any Mystikal CD's. The song is played throughout the movie and also when Q hits his cuz and starts to walk out of the building to get the girl. If you know where to find this song, please let me know.

    3 out of 5 stars interesting.......2005-02-28

this film in some ways was a Pre-cursor to Will Smith's "Hitch".Jamie Foxx is a writer who gives out advice.Morris Chestnut always got a role in the Soul Buppie flicks.Gabrelle Union is cool as always. this film works because it doesn't get to predictable though it does lose some points because not enough laughs or predictable runs in spots.still worth given a looking at.

    4 out of 5 stars Very Entertaining.......2005-02-21

Jamie Foxx & Gabrielle Union are magnetic.

Breaking up with someone is always a difficult thing; especially when the person being dumped isn't ready for the relationship to be over.

But this film gives some great tips on how to do it and get out of the person's house in one piece. I just hope my woman doesn't use them on me! I would be seriously hurt! LOL!

Fun film! One tip though, park your ride in your garage at all times!

4 out of 5 stars CUTE AND FUN..............2005-02-11

Breakin' All The Rules is a mediocre-to-fun movie made more than serviceable by its awesome cast, which include Jamie Foxx, Gabrielle Union, and the gorgeous Morris Chestnut. Jamie Foxx stars as Quincy, who has been unceremoniously dumped by his girlfriend at their engagement party. When layoffs loom at his job, his boss asks him to research the science of firing employees--and Quincy discovers that the manner in which he was "fired" by his girlfriend was all wrong. Research leads to Quincy penning a runaway bestseller on how to break-up with your lover--chock full of theories tested out by cousin and best friend, Evan (Morris Chestnut). When Evan suspects that his current girlfriend Nicky (Gabrielle Union)is about to break up with him, he sends his cousin Quincy to plead his case. Mistaken identity ensues.....and the two become romantically involved. What follows is a hilarious tale of romance gone awry.....great fun!!

3 out of 5 stars The Rise of Krumpin.......2007-04-01

This DVD revolves around the old-skool dance style of Breakin (Or BBoying/Breakdancing) against a new upcoming dance style called Krumpin.

The storyline is rather mediocre, with two people making a bet as to which dance style would beat the other. The content however, goes rather in depth into the current image of the dance styles.

As you watch this film, you will learn the basic roots of Krumpin and Breakin, and how the battle styles differ and such. Well known Bboys such as Crumbs and Reun represent the Bboy team, and Krumpin founder Tight Eyez leads the Krumpin team.

Much of the film itself is based on the preparation to the battle, and how both teams look for crew members to join the battle.

The battle itself has lots of energy, with some mind blowing moves from both sides. However the difference in music and battle style made the battle hard to judge from an audiences point of view. If you only wish to buy the DVD just to find the outcome of the battle, I would not reccomend. You're better off finding out the verdict from another source since the battle is only a small portion of the DVD.

Note to BBoys/Bgirls: The international scene for BBoyin/Bgirlin is not represented well in this video. Do not expect appearances from any bboy outside of the US.

4 out of 5 stars Transition from One Dance to the Next.......2006-12-28

I saw this movie earlier this year and really enjoyed it. I can't believe I could've missed something like this when it first came out, considering I know all the words to "Breakin" and "Breakin 2" from watching them repeatedly as a child. I didn't even recognize Shabba Doo "Ozone." My mother had to tell me. This movie was basically about a bet that Shabba Doo and Todd Bridges made in regard to who was better between breakers and krumpers. I enjoyed seeing how the krumpers have transitioned from this movie. I love movies about hip-hop, especially when it's true to the artform and Hollywood hasn't watered it down.

Cons: The dance-off scene, once the dancers were picked, was in a mediocre area. I wish it would've been outside or in a more realistic environment instead of a warehouse with all of these people who looked like this was their first time ever even BEING around hip-hop dancers. I was concerned that the krumpers could even get into character, but ironically, the breakers acting a complete fool helped. I would've never thought that the breakers would act so intimidated and defensive, but it made for great entertainment.

Pros: I liked the decision of the winners. It was only fair and realistic. I wanted to know why another man would want to take someone else's past nickname (Baby Tight Eyez) but I give Wild Boy the thumbs up for changing his name and showing his individuality. Todd is a pretty funny guy. I liked watching his crazy rendition of breaking and him and Shabba Doo go back and forth joking.

5 out of 5 stars krumping is 4real.......2006-12-27

i grew up on breaking and the electric boogie this krump stuff is 4real the energy is amazing it was funny looking at those break dancer's trying to keep up they don't understand it would be like 1978 break dancer's battling people doing the twist breaking is done. that era died long ago those white guy's break dancing don't realize we created something new they alway's 20 year's late.

4 out of 5 stars well to be fair..........2006-10-02

Maybe I am not being fair because I saw this on digital cable and not shell out any dough...

I grew up with hiphop, and in its hey day it was innovative, exciting new and fresh..

but its NOT hungry.....its rehashed and looks no different than a street version of organized gymnastics. any high school cheerleader can be a break dancer now.......but lets see them krump...

I was amazed at the raw energy and freshness of krump...those that think krumping is not an artform are just part of the spiritually retarded crowd.

I was more blown away by the reaction of the breakdancer, how they got so caught up in the energy of the crump dancers they lost their cool....

it was at that point, I realized breakdancing is really played out!!!

and Krumping is dancing you can feel, though most likely not for the spiritually retarded!!

5 out of 5 stars shabadoo came through --so did Todd.......2006-08-25

I am 45 years old. I grew up with shabadoo and Todd Bridges. I know both of them. I knew they would be opened minded enought and fair enough to call the battle. They both concluded the same as I did, that it was a tie. Krump is hear to stay, and breakin is too..my only complaint was that Shabadoo could have put more poppers or Lockers ...now that would have really been unfair. the guy in the red suite was a okay popper...but lets see the youngsters go up against mr wiggles and the electric boogaloo....oh that would have made me cry..because I would feel bad for not knowing enough to judge krumpin fairly.. I go by the crowds enthusiam..and they get the crowd going. I am going to learn to krump at my old age..cause dancing is my life..Long beach late 70's and we street danced..oh yeah...long live Pete, Sam, Marvin, decky, skally, robot dane, skeeter Rabbitt, creepin Sid, the boogaloo bandit, elmo, david Nelms, and many other street dancers who loved the excitment of the crowd.
