Jack Nicholsons early work- 4 film set!.......2004-05-14

The films featured are:
1.)Studs Lonigan: Jack Nicholson only plays a small part in this movie, but the film is still amazing! The film centers on Bill "Studs" Lonigan and his group of friends going nowhere fast in the 1920's Chicago slums. This film is both thought provoking and sad. Lonnigan seems to be victim of his Socio Economic Status, as each year passes and his life is going nowhere.

2.)The Terror: Jack Nicholson plays the starring role in the strange B horror/fantasy movie. Nicholson plays a young officer who finds himself on a strange island. Things take a twist as he follows a strange attractive woman to the castle of an elderly Baron, played by Boris Karloff.

3.The Wild Ride: The best film in this DVD set! Jack Nicholson stars in this 1960s amateur teen film. Nicholson plays Johny Verhan, the cool leader of group of wild teens. This is Jack at his best! He plays chicken with the cops, gets any and all the girls and leads his gang with the snap of his finger.

4.) Little Shop of Horrors: Yes, the original classic version! This silly and stupid B horror flick features Jack nicholson in a small part.

The Terror (1963) Napoleonic officer (Jack Nicholson) pursues a mysterious woman to the castle of a baron. He encounters a witch bent on driving the baron to suicide.

The Wasp Woman (1960) A vain, youth obsessed owner of a cosmetics firm turns into a man-killing wasp woman after ingesting wasp-derived serum created by a zany scientist.

after the botched jobs a.m.c. did to the bela lugosi collection i was worried about this one but they got it right this time.......2006-04-27

a.m.c. is still on my list of bewere of buys because of some of there other collections(the bela lugosi collections), but my love for roger corman over came me and i'm glad.
this is as good a transfers of these movies as i have seen,no extras ,but they do look great. for the price you can't go wrong.

Little Shop of Horrors does not star Jack Nicholson as Semour, rather Mr. Nicholson appears as a creepy dentist patient with a flair for all things unpleasent. His short performance alone would be worth the price of this DVD. But thankfully, the joys to be found in this strange film do not end there. Adding to the fun is Dick Miller (from Bucket of Blood) as a flower lover who takes his taste for botanicals to a new level. Speaking of Bucket of Blood, that is one creepy film. Stupid, but creepy. It also offers a first hand account of the 60s in a more bohemian way than many might be accustomed to. Dick Miller is nearly unrecognizable in a terriffic performance. If nothing else, seeing him and his massive transformation between Bucket of Blood (notice that the initials of this film spell BOB?) and Little Shop of Horrors is worth it. I have yet to see The Terror, but it looks great thanks to Mr. Nicholson again and Boris Karloff.

Scary Cult Classics!!!.......2003-10-22

A BUCKET OF BLOOD stars Dick Miller who plays a nobody who gains fame among the beatniks. His realistic sculptures are made by covering dead bodies with clay. Watch out---you may just jump out of your own skin!!!

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS stars Jack Nicholson as a skid row flower shop owner facing a dilemma with a demanding carnivorous plant. Don't get too close to the screen---it might gobble you up!!!

THE TERROR stars Boris Karloff and Jack Nicholson. Nicholson plays an officer in Napoleon's army who pursues a mysterious woman. The woman becomes the pawn of a old witch bent of driving a baron to suicide. Creepy atmosphere in a castle with a crypt.

The Terror never looked worse!.......2002-08-26

This review is not about the movies themselves (The Terror/Little Shop of Horrors), just a warning about this Marengo double-feature DVD. This was my first purchase of a Marengo Films DVD and it will definitely be my last. Ignore the five-star review below (!?!), the source prints on this disc are of VERY poor quality. Typical dupey, faded, contrasty, scratchy, blemished, no-detail public domain junk. Well, Little Shop of Horrors doesn't look atrocious, merely extremely sub-par. GoodTimes' excellent edition blows this one right off the map at half the price (grab it while you can!). As for The Terror, which I mainly bought this disc for, I cued up my VHS copy, recorded off of AMC a year or so ago, and even the tape blows the Marengo DVD away! The color saturation, color balance, contrast, and detail of the videotape handily demolish the miserable excuse for a source print on this disc. The shadow detail in particular is massively filled in on the DVD: the blood drops on the floor in the opening scenes are all but invisible and entire pieces of furniture are swallowed up in the murk!! Unbelievable. It even looks worse than the public-TV-taped PD VHS copy I replaced with the AMC version. Don't waste your money on this disc, I'm sorry I did. At least it looks like it's going out of print, a blessing for movie fans everywhere.

Roger COrman's FIlms With Jack Nicholson.......2002-07-17

There is something to be said for "B" films. "B" films are always those low budget, unknown actor filled, wildly unpredictable scripted and often poorly photographed films that no one goes to see but watch either on late-night TV or rent for their scary parties.

LITTLE SHOP OF HORROS is a film that had bad acting, bad photography and a bad plot. Technically, Audrey Jr. is kind of interesting, As you know by now, this film was adapted into another film of the same title and turned into a musical. That film is wonderful. It is a fantasy. This one is a joke. Always taking itself too seriously for its own good. (What was Roger Corman thinking?)

THE TERROR is no exception. This is the film that features a very young and very energetic Jack Nicholson. Obviously early in his career, but what stands out is his performance against the ever horrific Boris Karlof. The plot is strange, the locations are inconsistent and the overall performances just short of college graduates - but the film has an eerie fun to it. Jack is trying really hard to act. (You can tell.)

The DVD extras include a commercial for driving safely, fresh popcorn in the lobby, goneria and two cartoons like they used to show in the fifties before a movie. There is one short of Superman and one short with Popeye. They are quite cute. There is even a commercial for Cheerios as advertised by the original Munsters (Fred Gwen and Yvonne Dicarlo). If you have so much money and want to spend it wastefully - get this DVD. It's fun in a sick way.

The Terror Never Looked Better!.......2002-01-05

Hats off to Marengo Films out of Dalles, Texas! They continue to restore classic Horror movies that I grew up watching in the 60's on late night TV. Their version of The Terror is wonderful.
The film is one of my all time favorites with Karloff. Avoid the cheap versions of this film, not to metion they also included The Little Shop of Horrors!!!
