The off-Broadway comedy-horror-musical hit that ran for years makes a successful transfer to film with a bevy of big-name cameos and two perfectly cast leads. Rick Moranis is the nebbish Seymour, who pines for flower-girl Audrey (Ellen Greene) while living in the basement of florist Mr. Mushnik (Vincent Gardenia). Things start turning around for Seymour, though, after he buys a little plant during a solar eclipse, christens it Audrey II, and discovers that it likes to drink blood. Soon enough, though, Seymour finds out that Audrey II, now grown to epic proportions, is in actuality a "mean green mother from outer space" that is hell-bent on world domination. Based on the 1960 Roger Corman cheapie that featured a young Jack Nicholson, Little Shop boasts a hilarious, amazing score by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, who would go on to revitalize Disney's animation arm with The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. Greene, the lone holdover from the original cast, is a ravishing, goofy Audrey, whose awkward demeanor belies a voice that could knock Ethel Merman off her feet. She's ably matched by Moranis, whose lack of a singing voice is perfectly in sync with Seymour's nerdiness. And Levi Stubbs Jr. of the Four Tops provides the lowdown, nasty-minded voice of Audrey II; his rendition of the Oscar-nominated "Mean Green Mother from Outer Space" is a showstopper. As for those celebrity cameos, Steve Martin's sadistic dentist is a masterful creation, as is Bill Murray's masochistic patient; John Candy, James Belushi, and Christopher Guest also pop up. And there was never a lovelier and funkier Greek chorus than the three Motown-fueled girls (Tichina Arnold, Michelle Weeks, and Tisha Campbell) who appear throughout the film. --Mark Englehart

i love this movie it is fun and funny it has comedy and action and murder a evil plant what more could you ask for

4 out of 5 stars Like the movie...not the singing.......2007-05-18

This is a pretty good movie, except for all the singing....I know it's that type of movie, but I don't care for it. But I love the plot!

5 out of 5 stars The second best musical of all times.......2007-05-15

I first saw this when I was about 12. I hated it at first because I wasn't mature enough to watch it with out having nightmares. Luckely after occasionaly watching it over a period of about two years I final was able to to watch the whole movie from beginiing to end without stopping except for bathroom breaks. If you saw the original black and white version of this made in the sixties and the off brodway play which ran four about four years in New York. I also thought I would inform you that the whole alternate first ending is not include on this dvd. The al;ternate nding was only avilable for about the first three days the dvd was avilable for sale on line and in stores when it first came out. Unfortunately Mr. Griffen had not given approval to have the alternate ending included on the dvd so only fragments of it remain on the second release of it. When young rick morransis discovers a mystery planet trouble some comes up. Can rick tame this blood thirst monster will he is forced to murder to feed it;s growing hunger. I also thought I'd inform you that two of the members of this cast are currently decased. John Candy died from a heart prtoblem I belive it was shorly after his role as Barf in spaceballs the famous spoof of the starwars triology that came out after this. In addition shortly before the dvd release vincent Garden also passed away. Can seymor control this monster of nature and what fate lies in store for the human race. Find out in thrilling action packed hillarious finally. This movie should be fine for kids 13 and up due to mild gory images mild rude humor mild violence in a couple of parts, intensity and occasional inapropriate language at the begining, middle and the end of the movie.

5 out of 5 stars Funny with a great Soundtrack!.......2007-04-06

I'm not crazy about musicals, but if the music's right and the story's tight, then I can be sold. I fell in love with this movie when I first saw it and I still love it today. I also admire the original by Roger Corman. Who can resist a giant wise cracking plant that eats people and sings! Gotta love it.

5 out of 5 stars Humorously Devious.......2007-03-23

I have nothing but respect for the puppeteers who controlled dear Audrey II. That plant ran the show, no doubt about it.

As musicals go this is one of the greatest, only second to Rocky Horror.

Rick Moranis is brilliant, and Ellen Greene has such an amazingly deep voice for such a tiny woman.

The three women singing throughout the movie gave me chills with every note. The vocal in this film are surprising and beautiful.

The story itself is brilliantly funny and horrific, it will have you laughing and cowering at the same time.

A true classic and worth watching...again, and again and again.

Ushering in the age of the inferior sequel, Jaws 2 was essentially a license to print money. Indeed, the film did very well despite blatantly replicating the plot of Steven Spielberg's original, though to lesser effect. Roy Scheider returns as Martin Brody, sheriff of the small island town of Amity. Just as the beachside resort is rebounding from the previous movie's shark attacks, another great white is snacking on divers and water-skiers. Naturally, the town fathers don't want to confront reality and choose to proceed with a lucrative sailing regatta, resulting in a grisly loss of life. Besides the fact that director Jeannot Szwarc takes an impersonal, workaday approach to the film, Jaws 2 manages to be both stylistically flat and openly cynical about its commercial intentions. Of chief interest here is Scheider's performance, which wisely reflects the emotional fallout from Brody's last trauma in his obsessive behavior here. --Tom Keogh

2 out of 5 stars Being "best of 'Jaws' Sequels ain't much to brag about. This movie stinks........2007-05-29

I may not have expected the midas touch of the original in "Jaws 2," but I did expect some quality. I didn't think the "Jaws" brand name would be sold out so cheaply. But it was when it allowed itself to be applied to this stinker. Not only is the writing lousy, the characters are shallow at best, including municipal leaders who conveniently have very short memories as they relive the past and fall perfectly in line with the unimaginative story line. The Brody's themselves seem to have short memories, but they merely symbolize the rest of the town who, despite some awfully familiar clues, jump in and out of the water with wreckless abandon w/o giving the possibility of a shark even a remote consideration. And the shark itself takes on something of a slasher personna in its predatory behavior in the way it chooses its prey. Not to mention how unlike in the original, this shark plays to the camera and takes on un-shark like characteristics, expanding a little more on the original sharks acrobatics. All this sequel needs (as well as the 3rd and 4th installments) is a hockey mask for the shark and the creativity for the plot line would be complete. This may be the best of the "Jaws" sequels, but that's like saying the Gremlin was GMC's best car.

3 out of 5 stars The only good sequel in the "JAWS" franchise.......2007-05-28

Once the music starts you know your in for a first class ride of the same caliber and quality as the original. John Williams does an excellent original score for the sequel setting the tone right off the bat. Really has some genuwine, jump outta your seat shocks and is overall very enjoyable and suspensful. Roy Scheider returns as Sherriff Brody and is just as good as he was in the first, sinking his teeth into the role and tearin' it up, much like the title character.
If your lookin for a scary shark movie, stick with the best("JAWS" and "JAWS2") and forget the rest.

3 out of 5 stars It's not as good as the original Jaws. But, then again, it's not as bad as Jaws the Revenge.......2007-04-23

Apparently, lightning can strike in the same place twice. And giant sharks can go on a rampange in the same place twice. That's what the people who made this movie expect you to believe. And so the only way to enjoy this film is not to take it too seriously.

I wish that they didn't make this movie. The original was so perfect that any subsequent movie could only diminish the great beast's reputation. But while this movie looks crappy compared to its original, it looks brilliant and competent compared to the two sequels that would follow it.

Anyone who hasn't seen this movie and gets it should not expect to be terrified. What made the first Jaws movie great is that we didn't actually see the shark until the very end whereas in this film we see it in the opening sequence. This takes away the mystery and the fear of the unknown but I guess by now the director figured everyone knew what the shark would look like anyways. The only difference in how this shark looks is that in the early part of the movie the shark gets burned on a side of its face which does give it a cool kind of look. And how the shark is killed in this film is almost as clever as in the original.

Again, don't expect to be terrified. This movie is a far better action/adventure story than a horror film. Here are my rankings of the four Jaws movies:

Jaws: 5 stars.
Jaws 2: 3 stars.
Jaws 3: 2 stars.
Jaws the Revenge: 1 and 1/2 stars.

For most people this film will be a waste of time. Maybe it is worth a rent but you should only buy it if you are a hard core Jaws fan.

4 out of 5 stars Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water ..........2007-04-06

JAWS II
Well, living in New England you would never expect to see a shark along the beach ...once maybe, but twice ...I don't think so. But thanks to the producers of Hollywood this second film has a lot of charm as the first.
In fact I watched Jaws I and Jaws II back to back and I thought they were both about the same caliber.
So if you liked the first movie, you'll like the second. Beyond this, the rest of the JAWS series was aweful.

3 out of 5 stars THE SHARK DELIVERS THE GOODS.......2007-03-16

It has been said so many times before..."How could a sequel possibly live up to the original?"....it can't! Especially since Jaws is one of those flukes. It just happened to turn out great, because of some unforseen trouble with the fake shark and a very clever young directer. Jaws 2 isn't a bad movie and could have been much worse! The shark scenes deliver because we have all been severely traumatized from the the first film., but Dreyfuss and Shaw are sorely missed on land. I still think it is worth owning if you are a fan of the first,( who isn't?) but the buck stops here! The 3rd and 4th installments are garbage! The DVD transfer is very good.

The phenomenal BBC series Walking with Dinosaurs spawned this 30-minute special. Using the same blend of computer animation, puppetry, and story-driven narration (by Kenneth Branagh), Allosaurus: A Walking with Dinosaurs Special centers on one particular dinosaur dubbed Big Al. Found in Wyoming in the 1980s, Big Al's fossil remains comprise the most complete allosaur skeleton ever found. Enough clues are found in the bones, 145 million years after his death, to tell the story of what might have happened from his birth to his death. The film's naturalistic approach (unlike that used in the Disney film Dinosaur, whose characters could talk) is quite spectacular, with chills (a bog turns out to be a big dinosaur threat), thrills (allosaurs chase a group of giant diplodocus), and humor (a baby allosaur seems to bump into the "camera"). A half-hour companion program, "Big Al Uncovered," illustrates how the "what-if" story of Big Al was constructed using facts uncovered by paleontologists (including the 17 injuries found in the skeleton) and filling in the gaps using the dinosaur's distant cousins (birds and crocodiles). The BBC production does not shy away from the violent world of dinosaurs, including mating and hunting techniques. However, any dinosaur fan age 7 and up should find all the Walking with Dinosaurs specials an exciting and fun education. --Doug Thomas

Description

Life was hard in the Jurassic age, even for a large dinosaur at the top of the food chain. A few years ago, the most complete allosaurus skeleton ever found was discovered in Wyoming. The bones tells a surprisingly detailed biography of one individual dinosaur, Big Al, as he came to be known by the scientists who pieced together his story. The creators of Walking With Dinosaurs have vividly recreated this 15-year story from birth to death using the same computer graphic and animatronic techniques that stunned viewers throughout the world when they saw the original series. A companion program, Big Al Uncovered, shows how the scientists were able to trace the evidence of Big Al's life story. Using the same state-of-the-art graphic effects, Big Al haunts the modern-day museums and dig sites as passionate scientists explain their findings and theories. Nominated for three Emmy Awards.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2006-12-15

This is one of the very few DVDs I can stand to watch with my sons! It's educational, and very cool. It is a bit graphic and violent at times, as my sons are only 19 months and 4 years, but they enjoy it and ask for it every single day. My older son will play with his dinosaurs while watching, and my younger son requests it by growling like "Big Al" as he's become known in our house! Even my husband enjoys watching this one. I plan to buy more in the series as my sons get a little older.

5 out of 5 stars allosaurus.......2005-08-20

IT IS A GREAT EPISODE. IT IS A GREAT ADVENTURE! I LOVE THIS DVD AND RECKAMEND IT FOR EVERYONE.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of Walking With Dinosaurs........2005-01-15

The reason I like this more than the others was because they gave us a lot of data on just one dinosaur - a Allosaurus named Big Al. Big Al's story is based on what information scientists were able to get from a almost complete skeleton found in Wyoming. The story is about his life, which was only 15 years long. 60 minutes, half of which is the story and half of which is about how they figured out what they did from the bones.
I kind of feel sorry for Big Al. He had a REALLY tough life and we don't even know if he ever got to have offspring or not. Was he a father of dozens of Allosaurus babies or did his genes end with his death? Extras also include a photo gallery and storyboards.

3 out of 5 stars The "Seventh" episode of Walking with Dinosaurs.......2004-10-06

The Ballad of Big Al (also known as "Allosaurus") acts as a good add-on to Walking with Dinosaurs (seen it?). Because it's only about 30 minutes, The Ballad of Big Al has alot less killing. The narration, though, is still bad. I wish they had an option to mute the narration.

4 out of 5 stars Well researched prehistoric ballad.......2003-11-15

This dramatic narrative follows the life of actual Allosaurus, Big Al, from an egg to the corpse of a fierce hunter. Even though the filming skips about Al's life, the flow of the production is hardly damaged. The research for the film is impressive; even the Allosaurus fight has some evidence from Al's fossils. Superb computer graphics and animatronics create the believable dinosaurs. There is suspense, action and tradgedy,as well as humor and fun woven into the story. One negative comment is with the location of the filming. It is filmed in Utah and Arizona, which do not look quite accurate, but the extensive research and realistic dinosaurs balance it out. This good short film lets the viewer experience how a dinosaur may have lived.

Kids will love this sweeping story of two brothers whose plane crashes on a mysterious island called Dinotopia, where human beings live in harmony with dinosaurs--the herbivores, anyway. The carnivores present a problem, as the humans' defenses against them--a mystical power source called sunstones--are losing strength. As they try to save the island, Carl and David (Tyron Leitso and Wentworth Miller) struggle not only with tyrannosaurs and prehistoric crocodiles, but also with repressive Dinotopian traditions and a scheming malcontent (David Thewlis) who stirs up all kinds of trouble. Meanwhile, they also wrestle with each other over the lovely daughter of the mayor of Waterfall City (Katie Carr). The pacifist ideals of Dinotopia are refreshing, but it's the special effects that will hook viewers: riding on the backs of brachiosaurs, flying atop pteranadons, arguing in court with triceratops and ankylosaurs--anyone fascinated with dinosaurs (and who isn't?) will enjoy this whimsical fantasy. A host of British character actors also helps keep the human side of this four-hour miniseries lively; Alice Krige (also known as the Borg Queen in Star Trek: The Next Generation) gets a much more benevolent role here. --Bret Fetzer

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous graphics, refreshing scenes with min violence, cute love story & entertaining!.......2007-06-25

I never read the Dinotopia books as a child so watching this movie was a real treat! I did not have any book storylines to make comparison while watching it so I just went along for the ride and watched all three series on Sci Fi channel one night. The two brothers, David & Tyron, (Wentworth Miller and Carl Scott in real life) had a love & hate or typical rivalry many brothers go through, especially "half-brothers" and it could teach some lessons to kids that "love defeats everything". When their father's plane crashed and they ended in an uncharted island, the adventure begins. Naturally, the two were in awe of the place where dinosaurs and humans live in harmony. Humans are descendants of those who also ended up in the island but could not go back to their former homes. The brothers became infatuated with the same girl, Marion (Katie Carr, the Waterfall City's daughter who studied Dinasaurs since her childhood. She loves nature and animals so Tyron and David learned many things from her about Dinotopia. There is also an intelligent/professor dinosaur named Zippo who helped the two brothers save the island. Of course, there is a villain who's main goal is to get out of the island so just watch for him.

As the movie progress, David, an introvert, became a pilot flying on skybacks in a place that resembled The Grand Canyon while the extrovert David had to learn patience through nursing a baby dinasaur. I puchased the DVD set so my toddler can watch it and enjoy the story when he's old enough to understand the plots... This is a great family movie despite the negative reviews others have posted. Don't let that deter from watching it because it is a treat for those who appreciate good movies other than sex and violence which you won't find here! The graphics especially of Waterfall City was just fab! Need not to mention Prison Break star Wentworth Miller starred here as one of his first major roles.

4 out of 5 stars Dinorific!.......2007-06-08

Along with my kids (ranging in age from 5-17), I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The graphics are excellent and the storyline kept us all glued to the television. Violence is at a minimum and there is no swearing or nudity. Clean family enjoyment.

4 out of 5 stars Dinosaurs.......2007-04-17

I bought this DVD for my boys ages 4 and 7. They absolutely love this movie. Since it is a mini series they never actually get through watching the whole thing but they do like what they end up seeing. The story is, of course, completely unrealistic but what isn't these days? The acting is just OK and the story is a little over my younger ones head but there are dinosaurs...and that's all that really matters.. It is worth it if your kids like anything having to do with prehistoric creatures.

3 out of 5 stars Boringtopia.......2007-04-12

I'm not even sure why ABC thinks they can get away with naming their movies after books. They aren't usually very inspired about following the books or they do a bad job getting actors, set makers, and CGI artists. The vast majority of their movies I have seen were boring. So unless you really are bored or you just want background for something else you are doing I can't recommend this movie. I hadn't read the book, but I knew enough about them to know this movie did a poor job trying to emulate it. Not only that I approached this with an open mind, but about a half hour in I knew this was a stinker. Small children may be slightly entertained but I doubt it as the two boys fight all the time and do really stupid things.

5 out of 5 stars Dinotopia.......2007-03-09

Dinotopia is a 1st class movie and series. A delight to watch. Such a terrible shame the ABC USA decided to scrap them. There is no "blood and guts splatter" in these movies, just good family entertainment. Great animation, the characters really do look like they are interacting with the Dinosaurs. The Dinotopia series continues the high quality viewing, and by buying the series too you will see episodes that never went to air because the plug was pulled half way through. Absolutely Fabulous.

1 out of 5 stars Consider seeing this film only if you think that believable scripts, good special effects, and originality are overrated.......2007-05-13

It's no accident that there never was another "Jaws" movie after Jaws the Revenge. Even the movie Deep Blue tried hard to avoid being thought of as Jaws 5. Why is that?

Probably because this sorry piece of filming terminated the giant shark in more ways than one. It's NO exaggeration, whatsoever, to say that this film works better as an unintentional comedy than as a horror/science-fiction movie.

If you are thinking of renting or, heaven forbid, buying this movie I will refer you to something that lambasts this movie better than I can. Do a you tube search for "richard jeni jaws 4" and you'll find a short entertaining video that gives Jaws the Revenge a proper mockery. A more accurate title would be Jaws the Joke or Jaws the Ripoff.

Here are my rankings of the Jaws movies:

Jaws: 5 stars (only one worth owning, get it)
Jaws 2: 3 stars (ehh, I guess there are worse things you could do with your time than seeing this inferior sequel)
Jaws 3: 2 stars (starting to get crappy)
Jaws the Ripoff: 1 star (only because you can't give 0 stars on Amazon)

1 out of 5 stars This time, it's bad! .......2007-03-14

I saw this movie on TV since there was nothing else on and I must say that I couldn't stop laughing. The movie is so bad, that it is a comedy! In the begining of this movie, they start off by saying that the events in Jaws 3 never happened (reason why it's called "Jaws: The Revenge" instead of Jaws 4) and that the sharks from the first two movies were the new sharks parents. So the shark follows the Brodys to kill them all! What a dumb plot you must think, but it gets even worse by the bad acting and action. In one scene the shark jumps out of the water and locks it's jaws on a plane! Come on, I bet the guy who wrote "Basic Instinct 2" could do a better job.

1 out of 5 stars This Got Made.......2006-12-22

I just saw the end of JAWS: THE REVENGE again on latenight cable TV--where it belongs--and I'm still stunned by the incredible lameness of every aspect of this movie. For everyone who quibbles about the unlikelihood of finding a Great White in the warm waters of the Bahamas: this shark also roars. Like a lion or something. A roaring shark. You read that right.

The filmmakers also keep cutting shots from the original JAWS into the climax. As a reminder that there was actually a good film at one time here? A distraction from how horrible this one is?

They paid Michael Caine enough to be in this stink bomb--but obviously not enough to wear a wet shirt after climbing out of the ocean. His expressions often convey that he's there but you're lucky he's at least facing the camera.
Was there something better he could have been doing? Yes. Picking up his first Oscar for HANNAH AND HER SISTERS. But he missed the Oscars to be in JAWS: THE REVENGE. At least he went on national TV to admit that he did this movie because he had a home right there in the Bahamas (he even pointed at the house during the interview).

The demise of the roaring shark is a baffling, badly-edited violation of all of our natural laws and logic. Shark rises out of the water. Boat rams shark. Shark explodes. Boat explodes. Everyone survives, even the annoying Jamaican who got chewed up several minutes before. Roll footage clearly the same of the blown-up shark sinking from the original.
Wow. It's that bad.

The tag line for this movie was "This time it's personal."
They were right.
That studio's really got it in for us!

1 out of 5 stars What a crap!.......2006-10-02

Looks great but don't get trusted, this is the worst killer shark film ever! The shark looks so fake and during all the movie he only killed like 4 people and that's it. So please don't see this movie I'm warning you.

1 out of 5 stars Attack of the Roaring, Plastic, Killer Shark!!!.......2006-09-26

After a Great White shark kills her youngest son, the widowed Ellen Brody comes to the realization that the shark is after her and her loved ones. As ridiculous of this might sound, it turns out that she's right. The vengeful, grudge-holding fish follows the grieving woman along with her son, daugther-in-law and niece to the beautiful Bahamas, I guess to seek revenge? For what, you ask? I have no idea.

The scathing reviews this film has received from those who have watched it are justified because this film is unbearably bad. The film-makers thought that in order to make a JAWS sequel, the story must involve the Brody family. In JAWS 2, chief Brody battled another over-grown Great White and in JAWS 3, the Brody sons battled an even bigger shark in Florida's seaworld. In JAWS: THE REVENGE, the homicidal fish returns to torment the Brody's yet again. Talk about an unlucky family. What I do not understand is why is this shark after them? Didn't the shark die in the original film? Didn't the second shark "cross over" during the sequel's climax? Is this shark somehow related to the previous sharks; maybe a spouse or a sibling or a cousin? Maybe it wanted to avenge the murder of it's relatives? Maybe "Bruce" was somehow resurrected in a Jason Voorhees/Mike Myers kind of way and the scene ended up in the cutting room floor? Help?

Another intriguing factor in JAW: THE REVENGE is that the shark roars. Mighty "Bruce" roars just like the T-Rex in Jurassic park and if that wasn't enough, it can also jump out of the water and stand on its tail, kinda like Flipper. I was waiting for Michael Caine to throw it a Mackerel and ask it to do a back-flip. Speaking of Michael Caine, he gives the most annoying performance of his entire career.

All kidding aside, JAWS: THE REVENGE is definitely the worst film in the series and qualifies as probably one of the worst sequels ever made. The acting is not too bad (Michael Caine being the exception) and I have to give credit where credit is due because you can tell that Lorraine Gary and Lance Guest were taking their roles very seriously and it's a testament to their talents that they were able to keep a straight face throughout this film.

The film's horrible climax only adds insult to injury. After her niece was nearly eaten up by the hungry fish, Ms. Brody decides to seek and kill it by herself without any weapons of any kind whatsoever. What was she expecting to do, run the shark over with her boat?

There are 2 endings to this film, both equally bad. The original ending had "Bruce" being impaled by the Brody's boat. After the film's release and for the Video editions the ending was changed and had the beast mysteriously explode upon impact. They also had Mario Van Peebles' character miraculously come back from the dead which mean this installment has the lowest body count in the series.

From the lame plot to the lame, plastic roaring shark to Michael Caine's utterly charmless performance, JAWS:THE REVENGE is a travesty of the highest order. Not even the gorgeous Bahamas locale can save this laughably bad film.

At least Michael Caine got a house out of it. The viewer is not as lucky. Skip it and re-watch the original instead. 1 out of 5.

This 1962 version of The Day of the Triffids has been a TV staple for many years, more probably because of a lasting affection for John Wyndham's original novel than any high regard for the film itself. The premise--a meteor shower blinds almost all of humanity, just as a space-borne strain of ambulatory killer plants begins to proliferate--is so strong that it's easy to overlook the frankly messy realization of it. The film opens well, sticking close to the book, as Howard Keel awakens in a London hospital after an eye operation and takes off the bandages to discover that he can see but most of the rest of the population can't. There are unsettling, effective bits with a plane literally flying blind and the beginnings of panic among the fumbling survivors, and one good Triffid encounter in a fog.

Then the film is strangely compelled to stray all over the map, with trips to France and Spain that have no discernible purpose. Director Steve Sekely's original cut was adjudged so disastrous that an uncredited Freddie Francis was brought in to shoot a whole new subplot, featuring Keiron Moore and Janette Scott in a vine-besieged lighthouse, to thread through the old footage. The results are less satisfying than the later BBC serial adaptation, but it still has some irresistible end-of-the-world and killer-plant material. --Kim Newman

Description

The Triffids are coming! The Triffids are killing! A shower of meteorites produces a glow that blinds anyone that looks at it. As it was such a beautiful sight, most people were watching, and as a consequence, 99% of the population go blind. This chaos results in the escape of some Triffids: experimental plants that are capable of moving themselves around and attacking people.

Note: I really liked this movie as a kid ..and i still love it now...but
I bought the Day of the Triffids, the version put out by a company called cheezy or something....Hey the movie looks great compared to other version, but the last 20 minutes there is no audio, i dont know if its only my copy that has the problem, but i was really dissapointed. If anybody else had that audio problem, please leave me a comment.

3 out of 5 stars crude, but this is the stuff of memories.......2007-05-29

I saw this as a memento to childhood delight, as I vividly recall seeing it with my best pal when it came out. There are wonderful images in it, of the greasy, mysteriously menacing plants striking blind beauties while society falls apart around them.

Of course, if your standard is not to re-live a wonderful time as a child in a cinema of screaming and laughing children, this film will probably do very little for you. Viewed more cooly from my vantage as a middle-aged film buff, it is pretty weak as sci-fi. Little is explained - the meteors somehow cause both blindness and a bizarre transformation in the triffids - and after the chaos of a society falling apart, the plot takes weird twists. One group that the narrative follows forms a kind of family and inexplicably heads to southern europe, where after much danger they escape. The other actors are a troubled couple of scientists, who miraculously discover that salt water dissolves the triffids after much failed study, again inexplicably. And the effects! Very bad compared to what is available today.

Recommended for purposes of nostalgia only, unless you are a connoisseur of clunky monster flicks over lots of beer.

4 out of 5 stars The Horror Classic "Day Of The Triffids" is ownworthy!.......2007-04-08

ok ive Just watched "day of the triffids" and it has been reformatted into anamorphic widescreen, but sadly they left in some of the graininess of the origional film. but to see this classic remastered and even with the few graphical errors, this IS, and always will be, a True Classic! until someone Remakes this movie and doesn't blow it! *waggles finger at tom cruse in war of the worlds* but overall this movie is for the fans of the oldies and the people whom saw this movie in theaters (yes you know who you are) and its worth every cent to go on an adventure like this. truly a rare gem! *a meteor shower blinds most of the humans on earth, leaving the few survivors to fend off the horrific Triffids! before Humanity os destroyed* not too many of the oldies are worth owning but, if you dont own this or like it if i was you i would avoid Golden Oldies like this and if your only happy with Tons of Extras and perfect imagry then this might not be to your liking at this point i suggest renting it to be sure its your thing.

5 out of 5 stars A great movie to watch .......2007-03-27

This is a movie that I enjoyed very much. I had seeing this movie when I was younger but was very hard to find until it came out on vhs and dvd.
I found the fact that it could happen to anyone who is suckered into watching some celestial show and wake up the next day with burned out eye retinas causing permanent blindness.

Not only is the person blind, but the whole world is blind except for the people who did not watch the meteorite shower. Plants, called Triffids become active and unroot themselves and go killing and eating people. Now that is cool. Planes, ships, trains crashing because their pilots or conductors has become blind. A very good movie to watch. Good story and performance.

1 out of 5 stars This is the WRONG "Day of the Triffids". . . .......2007-02-17

Compared to the great 1981 version of the Day of the Triffids, this Howard Keel version is really pathetic.

The 1981 version for some crazy reason has not been made available for the USA. We need it! It is much closer to the great book by John Wyndham. It seems to me when it was first released it was shown both on USA and British TV.

The 1981 version was produced by David Maloney and starred John Duttine and Emma Relph. It really gives you the creeps in the same way the greatest horror movies of aliens wiping us out, such as 'Body Snatchers,' has you looking over your shoulder for weeks afterward. But this 1962, badly reproduced hollywood version? Forget about it.

The Woman Eater starts out as all carnivorous plant films should: with a bunch of Brits heading off into the jungle. The intrepid (and just slightly mad) Dr. Moran leads his party to the home of an ancient tribe, conveniently arriving just in time for a sacrifice. ("Stop it, you devils!") Five years later we're back in England, neatly glossing over how Moran got his giant man-eating plant through customs. With the help of native drummer Tanga, Moran is feeding the daughters of England to his plant in the hopes of developing a serum that will bring the dead back to life. (Well, sure!) Soon the lovely Sally arrives to help with the housekeeping, and tension rises as we wait to find out if she'll become Miracle-Gro. The Woman Eater has almost too many pleasures to mention: bubbling beakers, lovely victims, stagehand-powered plant arms, natives wearing costume pieces from every jungle movie ever made, and of course the drums! Oh, the drums! Watch it today and keep an eye on your begonias. --Ali Davis

Will she become another victim of this woman-devouring tree or can the police and Sally's boyfriend save her from the cannibalistic tree? No beautiful woman is safe from "The Woman Eater!"

Have you read the cover of this DVD?

SEE: The nerve shattering Dance of Death

SEE: The Woman Eater ensnare the beauties of two continents

SEE: The hideous arms devour them in a death embrace

Who writes this stuff? Well I did SEE this movie and guess what, no nerves were shattered. There are a couple of attractive women such as the popular British model Vera Day and a young redheaded beauty named Sara Leighton in her one and only movie appearance.

And what about the horrific Woman Eater with the hideous arms and death embrace? Just imagine a very large, bristly pipe cleaner with appendages. Got the picture?

2 out of 5 stars Needs One More Scene.......2004-03-09

George Coulouris and Vera Day star in this silly tale of obsession and plant monsters. British explorers witness an African tribe sacrifice a maiden to a plant monster. Five years later, with no explanation, one of the explorers has the monster and priest on his estate where he is doing experiments on raising the dead.

Women are given to the plant (it apparently does not like men) and fluid is drawn that become the elixir of life. The explorer, actually a doctor, falls for a new employee at his estate and appears to go slightly mad as his experiments near completion.

But add the girl's boyfriend (possible fiancé), madness, love, hate, a fanatic priest and a killer plant and you wind up with a film that climaxes and stops suddenly. It could have been better by simply explaining how things went from jungle to estate. One scene would have done it. It would have been in character for the doctor to gloat some more and give the explanation of his genius.

The ending is not what one expects but it does work into what little story there is. A must see movie for fans of bad monster films as this is one of the worst, but don't expect much.

4 out of 5 stars THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL............2003-05-26

I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but I love this movie. Lurid title and all. It's a b&w low budget British pot boiler about a crazed scientist who brings a big cheesy looking "tree" back from the Brazilian Amazon that eats women---but only pretty ones. Mumbo jumbo about tribal rituals have intoxicated the doctor (George Coulouris) into believing the serum derived from the tree can restore the dead to life. But AFTER it's eaten a pretty woman. So, he lures young women home---drugging one (Joy Webster from "Burn Witch Burn") with a "funny cigarette"---to his laboratory/dungeon. There, his whacked out "Brazilian native" assistant Tanga (Jimmy Vaughan) dresses them in a sexy outfit complete with bracelets and puts them in a trance by wildly beating bongos. Tanga gets VERY turned on (and sweaty) and pushes the girls into the writhing lobster claw arms of the tree. Will the doc's blonde and pretty new "housekeeper" (Vera Day) be the tree's next meal? And will the nosy OLD "housekeeper" wind up a zombie? Turn your brain off and watch this 70 min. wonder and just enjoy. Nice DVD print from Image makes this rainy day flick a keeper for lovers of old b&w cheesy horror movies like myself. Oh, and that's beautiful Marpessa Dawn (from the Oscar winning "Black Orpheus"---also 1959) at the beginning as the jungle sacrifice to the tree. Interesting career leap. Thanks Image.

2 out of 5 stars THIS IS NOT A HORROR MOVIE .......2007-02-14

First of all I watched this do to all of the reviews but this is no horror movie. This is a sideshow freakshow peepshow movie. The first hour is nothing but freaks half men half women naked people. I dont need to be seeing chicks with you know what. I love horror movies but kinda wasted my time with this one. It was fairly entertaining and possible even funny at times but lets put this movie in the cult/schlock library. This reminded me of The rocky horror picture show with all the horrible singing and The movie Freaks from back in the 30's. If you want something different this is it, if you want a real horror movie this isn't even close.

    4 out of 5 stars a.k.a Wolf Girl.......2006-09-28

Don't be fooled by the silly cover art or the lame title.. this is a really good movie! After watching the movie I realized that the alternative title "Wolf Girl" which this film is (also known as) ..is a much more suitable title. The movie is more about her than any of the other side show entertainers. Everything revolves around her. There are many sights to see in the movie from Grace Jones as a half man half woman, Darlene Cates as a 600 pound + + size woman, midgets, deformed people plus, others that are harder to explain. Tim Curry plays a father figure to the young girl born wolf-like. He is sorta the same with the others in the freakshow but, more so with her. I think the movie kinda teaches a few valuable lessons that I will just let you experience for yourself. Each viewer will take away different things from the message the film holds but, I think I will stop judging people based on whats on the outside. "3 1/2 stars"

4 out of 5 stars who doesn't love side show freaks? .......2006-07-08

Bloodmoon - Weregirl in a freak show uses modern chemistry to become less wolf on the outside.

This movie is about as "horror" as a tv sitcom, BUT it has Tim Curry and Grace Jones in it, which is a major bonus. The plot wasn't too bad, but the script needed a little work. I liked the concept of the whole thing. The girl's transition on both the inside and outside was very interesting.

Plus who doesn't love side show freaks? ;0) They were awesome!

3 out of 5 stars "Dude, look at his wang!".......2006-03-20

Drama with horror elements about a teenage bully with a super small unit who goes to a traveling freak show and pisses off the "Wolf Girl" by throwing dog poo at her and stabbing her with darts...that'll do it.

A local teenage nerd takes a liking to the furry girl and treats her with an anti-body hair serum his scientist mother happened to have in the basement refrigerator. Unfortunately the serum causes the girl to snap and run around on all four's biting people.

Interesting idea but far too much time is wasted on life in the freak show, probably like 40% of the film! And what does the title BLOOD MOON mean? The moon had nothing to do with anything and there was very little blood.

    I can't recommend it.

    5 out of 5 stars Stunning movie.......2005-10-07

Blood Moon (also credited as "Wolf Girl") is a surprisingly beautiful movie, at first it might seem like your usual "Werewolf Flick" along the lines of "An American Werewolf in Paris" but it's far from usual, in fact, its perhaps one of the best werewolf movies ever. If you're looking for a horror movie with scary drop-outs and a lot of teenage screaming this is not for you, this movie is a lot deeper; it touches upon several of human subjects such as: longing, loneliness and love. The movie is incredibly well done, the make-up effects especially of "wolf girl" (Victoria Sanchez) and the scenery is dark and moody, plus the shooting is extremely good and clearly done by professionals. The cast is nothing short of stunning. Tim Curry (Three Musketeers, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York) is as always at his best as the owner and leader of the Freak Show. Victoria Sanchez (Satan's School for Girls, This Is My Father) is good but most importantly believable as the wolf girl; Grace Jones (A View to a Kill, Conan the Destroyer, Vamp, Boomerang, Palmer's Pick-Up) plays the half woman, half man "Christine/ Christoph" and she does a good job (personally this is my personal movie with Grace Jones), she's perfect for the role and her two musical numbers are straight out of Cabaret. The rest of the cast includes: Shawn Ashemore (The X-Men 2, Earthsea), Lesley Ann Warren (Victor/ Victoria), (Mission: Impossible) and the quirky Dov Tiefenbach (Tommy Boy, The Mighty). One of the things that makes "Blood Moon" stand out from the crowd is the humanity, the story manages to capture most of human emotions. To be honest I've never seen a horror movie with as much depth as this movie has, everything seems extremely well executed, from the dialogue (non of that typical teenage babbling) which is actually intellectually challenging to the constant questioning you'll find yourself wondering throughout most of the movie. For the first time in a long time I've found a movie I truly liked, a movie is best when is makes you question everything about it, a movie is further developed and definitely better when everything seems so different than everything else around. Blood Mood, don't miss this hidden gem!
