Dead End is no dead end........2007-05-27
I really enjoyed this flick. It very deftly combined comedy with horror, which is no easy task. I was totally caught off guard by the humor. Most horror movies either have no humor, or the humor is poorly executed. I expected the same here, until I found myself busting out laughing at several scenes. The "do you have to suck on the bottle like that?" line starting things rolling and there were several others that elicited more than just a chuckle.
But a horror movie's main task is to frighten and scare you. This does that as well. Driving down a deserted road late at night makes for a nice setting. And as the events start happening to this family you can't help but feel their despair. Another thing I like is how they slowly start breaking down psychologically and turn on each other (some of the funniest lines come out here). And then you get the ending, which didn't turn me off like it did so many others.
Overall an enjoyable ride that I'd gladly take again and again.
HORRIBLE....JUST HORRIBLE........2007-04-13
If you are familiar with Lionsgate, a film company with a bad track record, you won't be suprised by my next words: this film is crap. The only highlight of it was at the end where Steve Valentine makes an appearance, though it's only for about seven minutes or so. Don't waste your time on this. Life is too short.
MUST SEE MOVIE.......2007-04-10
DEAD END IS A MUST SEE MOVIE THAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING TO BUY FOR A WHILE NOW. IT ARRIVED IN PERFECT CONDTION.
Heck of a good time!.......2007-01-16
I watched this movie with my older sister, her boyfriend and her friend, and I can tell you, we had a fun time watching the movie! There were so many scary parts that made shivers run down our spines, that made us scream and that made us cover our eyes!
There were many scary parts, such as the part where Marian's brother and the lady in white started kissing and a very gross part happened, when the mother started going insane with the gun, the part where the father and daughter are in the forest, the shadows around the car and the baby's face were just some of many different scary parts in this movie.
I absolutely had an amazing time watching this movie. It had it's touch of comedy, which was fun, and the ending was (in my opinion) very good. Some may say this movie wasn't good, but it is definitely worth a try!
Real Christmas horror flick.......2006-11-28
This movie is a Christmas eve horror flick. If you would like to be scared by a movie that holds your interests, then this is the one. Why this movie is so scarey to me is that I have been lost when driving late at night. So, what the movie does is captures your fear of being lost with no one around to ask directions from. Great movie for a very low budget!!! Highly recommended!!!!

For those who never thought Disney would release a film in which Santa Claus is kidnapped and tortured, well, here it is! The full title is Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, which should give you an idea of the tone of this stop-action animated musical/fantasy/horror/comedy. It is based on characters created by Burton, the former Disney animator best known as the director of Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and the first two Batman movies. His benignly scary-funny sensibility dominates the story of Halloweentown resident Jack Skellington (voice by Danny Elfman, who also wrote the songs), who stumbles on a bizarre and fascinating alternative universe called ... Christmastown! Directed by Henry Selick (who later made the delightful James and the Giant Peach), this PG-rated picture has a reassuringly light touch. As Roger Ebert noted in his review, "some of the Halloween creatures might be a tad scary for smaller children, but this is the kind of movie older kids will eat up; it has the kind of offbeat, subversive energy that tells them wonderful things are likely to happen." --Jim Emerson

Still blows me away.......2007-05-28
Burton's dark love story will still take your breath away. The Nightmare before Christmas has a cult following, and it's no suprise why. The story is a most incredible, and creative story, with great music.
Kids will love it, but adults even more. I think this movie is 100 years before it's time. It's something you could only expect from Burton and it will still leave you enamored.
We see only what we are trained to see.......2007-05-12
This is comment on the movie and not on the DVD product
Indeed this is treasure that can be viewed from many angles, and I leave the cinema forum discussion open..
My view on the excellent art: Jack- the maestro extraordinaire of Halloween- in his maximum competence level- has found no longer "zest" in his own creation and admiration of his Halloween peers- similar to a mid-life crisis - he undergoes a minor depression looking for that change of pace.
Wandering far and apart, the finds it by having a rare access to Christmas town- a community that same as holloweenland spend s all its time and energies in preparing for the date .. and now, comes the decoding part of the story, how does a Halloween character interpret x-mas? You guess it, a no brainer here.. X-mas has that Halloween taste.. Yet everyone is so excited nobody can notice it... now you can see how to use this movie for conflict issues... Jack also elevates to his maximum incompetence state (to put it into Dr. Peter's celebrated theory) by hijacking Santa in x-mas night... fortunately reality kicks back to reestablish balance and .. Well see it
I thought I did not need any explaining on how to use this movie for conflict issues, so let's begin with the simple things as I would with my teenage son
- Discovery of America by the Europeans- Columbus could not even accept the possibility of a new world, this was India and the natives sure looked like Indians., in turn, when they saw the horses, what could they think of such wonderful beast, what names can they be given?... Venezuela was named because the Spanish saw some villages made over the waters of a lake, and they related to Venice..
I could go on with Freud's theories of the psyche, etc but I am tired
GREAT DVD AND MOVIE ....BUT.......2007-03-31
This movie is a visual treat! Tim Burton can certainly come up with all the visual elements in a film, but he lacks in his story telling sometimes and the music in this film is mediocre at best. Please don't get me wrong, I love this movie, but it is not without it's flaws. The music is boring and drags sometimes unlike in "James and the Giant Peach" which the songs are very good. James is so much more entertaining on a story level too. Nightmare is a beautiful looking film and has great characters, it just doesn't quite live up to the cult status it has achieved.
No.......2007-03-20
This movie. My responce; huh? This may be the most creepy thing ever. I watched it, and I didn't really feel like I had just watched a movie. It felt like I had just been stupified in front of a whole lot of people. Was I supposed to get that? I was thinking about watching it with my daughter, but I'm glad I decided not to. She is still a young girl of and ACADEMIC (hint, hint) mind set. I will always be happy to watch a movie with her, but not one that is this stupid.

Description
When Cousin Eddie joined Clark Griswold and his family for National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, the movie quickly becaume a holiday institution. An institution, of course, is where many think Cousin Eddie should reside. Randy Quaid again plays crude but lovable Eddie and Miriam Flynn returns as his wife in another comic skid on the Vacation banana peel. In a way, Christmas has always been a test of survival for Eddie and his brood. And that's truer than ever when they receive an expenses-paid holiday tour of the South Pacific and end up shipwrecked on a remote island. Fred Willard, Ed Asner, Eric Idle in a zany cameo and more join in this season of comfort and joy. Which means little comfort for Eddie. And lots of joy for Vacation fans.

Unenthralled.......2007-01-19
I got this for my father for Christmas. What a waste of money it was. I was expecting some funny, witty jokes- just like the first movie. It was nothing like that at all. It was not funny, there was no storyline, we watched about 30 minutes of it, and just gave up watching it because it was so bad. The acting was also horrible. I would not reccommend this to anyone.
Why oh why..........2005-09-29
You know. I really enjoyed the first Christmas Vacation. When I saw CV2 on the shelf I was excited to see the saga continue. The movie starts out great....until the beginning credits end. While they did bring back an old Audrey they forget the core family...Chevy Chase and Beverly DeAngelo. Guess they knew to stay away from such a bad movie and so should you. Trust me. This movie is not enjoyable whatsoever.
I would have given it no stars but they don't allow it.
mildly amusing.......2005-08-09
This movie, while most certainly not the best comedy made by National Lampoon was funny none the less amusing in it's own strange way. Definitely not a suitable sequel to the original Christmas Vacation though.
C'mon!!!!This isn,t that bad!!!!.......2004-12-27
YOU PEOPLE!!!!I heard you bitch and moan like all day about this movie! When you moan about one of funniest movies ever you,re insulting the director.AND YOU HURT MY FEELINGS TOO. Love goes out to you, Nick Marck.
Ooops.......2004-12-27
Okey. its enjoyable for big fans of the old vacation movies. becouse you see the original "audrey griswold" back after 20 years. she looks kind of weird though. she's a grown woman now, but still look like one of their kids. and ofcourse Eddie and his wife along with "snod" the dog. so, even though the movie isnt very fun at all. you can still find some enjoyment watching this. i mean, after all, it isnt just a remake with completely diffrent actors and moviemakers. it's a fifth installment in the "Vacation" series.
I really wanted, and really tried to like this movie. but i don't think i laughed once. it starts of bad from the begining, in one of the early scenes, when they've landed in this hot vacation place, they meet all these cute loveable asian girls, and i figure "okey, atleast that's a reason for liking the movie". but then this bitter angry asian girl shows up, and she becomes they're guide. great.. oh, and comedian Fred Willard shows up for a few short scenes. Oh, Eric Idle too!
cousin eddie was my favorite character in the vacation series, so i was really looking forward to this movie and thought i'd like it. but it just isnt funny! on the DVD extras, you see trailers of the old vacation movies.. and i mean.. just compare. this comes out as a very poor and empty movie with old lame jokes and only about 1:20h long.
if i wasn't a fan of the "vacation" series, and this was just like a regular movie i saw, without seeing the prevoius ones. i would just think this was the lamest thing ever.
i don't know.. maybe kids will like it. i'm still hoping for more Vacation movies, even though the movie makers didnt seem to care much about this one. the previous "Vegas Vacation" (1997) wasn't the funniest either. Well, still, i enjoy this movie becouse it's another installment with alote of familiar faces and a great vacation spot. i mean, who wouldnt like to be at that hot place in the middle of the winter. i like it, but it's not fun.

Good suspence.......................2006-09-25
and loaded with haunting images, this little thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat. The actor who played the husband didn't do a good job, but Alice, the wife makes up for it. The reviewer before this says there isn't gore...but there is implied gore...like a shovel on a wrist, and blood on white gowns.
Filmed with suspence in mind, the movie moves at a fast pace. The images are top notch, and the chills down right creepy at times. The ending on the lake, however, did not fit with the rest of the story and I took a star away because of that and the husband's bad acting.
Special note: The most chilling scene is when the killer puts a bloody finger to his lips going "Shhhhhh............"
A Nightmare Indeed.............2006-03-05
Seems I'm the first person to review this movie although it's not a new movie. I don't know if that's good or bad but I can say that this movie is Bad!! I bought this movie previously viewed and with nightmare in the title and being a horror movie fan, it looked like it might be a good horror/slasher flick. Not the case. I have seen worse so that's the reason for the 2 star rating. The plot: a married couple witness a murder so now they are taken to a secluded safe house for their own protection by a FBI special agent. When the 3 arrive at the home, they find it abandoned. The FBI agent suddenly begins to act strangely. Alice (the wife) begins having visions of murder and starts suspecting the FBI agent is possessed by the spirit of a psycho who murdered his family in the same house many years ago. She confronts her husband with all of this and tries to convince him it's time for them to leave but he doesn't believe her and thinks she is going crazy. From that point on, Alice must do whatever it takes to save her and her husband's lives. No great acting, no great filming and no gore. Christmas Nightmare fails to live up to it's name.

The Nightmare Before Christmas
For those who never thought Disney would release a film in which Santa Claus is kidnapped and tortured, well, here it is! The full title is Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, which should give you an idea of the tone of this stop-action animated musical-fantasy-horror-comedy. It is based on characters created by Burton, the former Disney animator best known as the director of Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and the first two Batman movies. His benignly scary-funny sensibility dominates the story of Halloweentown resident Jack Skellington (voiced by Danny Elfman, who also wrote the songs), who stumbles on a bizarre and fascinating alternate universe called... Christmastown! Directed by Henry Selick, this PG-rated picture has a reassuringly light touch. As Roger Ebert noted in his review, "some of the Halloween creatures might be a tad scary for smaller children, but this is the kind of movie older kids will eat up; it has the kind of offbeat, subversive energy that tells them wonderful things are likely to happen." --Jim Emerson
James and the Giant Peach
Roald Dahl's modern classic for children becomes a delightful combination of live-action footage and stop-motion animation by the team that made The Nightmare Before Christmas--director Henry Selick and producers Tim Burton (Batman) and Denise Di Novi. The story concerns young James (played for real and through voiceovers by Paul Terry), who is orphaned and left in the charge of two cruel aunts (Miriam Margolyes and Joanna Lumley). Rescued by a mysterious fellow (Pete Postlethwaite), James ends up inside a giant peach, drifting over the Atlantic Ocean in the company of a gentleman grasshopper (voiced by Simon Callow), a fast-talking centipede (Richard Dreyfuss), an anxious earthworm (David Thewlis), a matronly ladybug (Jane Leeves), and a sexy spider (Susan Sarandon). The collection of actors and their creepy-crawly alter egos are a delight, especially when some of the song-and-dance numbers (tunes written by Randy Newman) get everyone going. --Tom Keogh

Two Claymation Classics!.......2006-11-13
THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS
An enchanting film that can be enjoyed at ANY time of the year. The movie is at once bizarre, funny, creative and even surprisingly touching.
JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH
A delightful movie that preserves the magic of the book on which it was based.
Movie for "middle-aged" kids and adults.......2005-09-22
Great movies for those older children to watch with their parents - these movies will hold the attention of both age groups. I hesitate to recommend these movies to younger children because of some parts of the movie - parents, watch the movie first and make up your own mind. The graphics of both movies are top notch and coupled with a strong storyline makes for a movie that you will watch again and again.
BLank Movie!.......2004-12-26
The Night Mare Before Christmas and James & The Giant peach is one of many favorites of our familes. After opening on christmas the kids were so excited, the next day we sat to watch our movies. Night Mare Before Christmas started of skipping but did play so they kids were happy. James and the Giant Peach will not play AT ALL!!! none of our dvd playes or neighbors dvd players can read the disk, one point dvd player said there was no disk inserted! Did we get a blank bootleg copy and were to belive we paid a hwat we thought decent price for these brand new! Not Happy at all. Have bought several movies of amazon with no problems and it only take that one time to make you go somewhere else and to pass the word!
Great movie.......2001-10-04
This is one of my personal favorite movies. Since i was little I have always love claymation. Who better to do a claymation movie than Tim Burton. His visions are truely incredible. The creation and imagination of Tim Burton alone invokes ideas beyond the basic movie idea. If you haven't seen this or any other Tim Burton movie I highly incourage you pick one up and invite your friends over for a great movie experience.
Good family fun meets Burton & Selick.......2001-08-05
"The Nightmare Before Chirstmas: Special Edition," is a must have that would carry a six start rating if at all possible. "Nightmare," was the most amazing (and largest scale) film ever made with stop-motion animation.
The story of Jack Skelington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, who wishes to take over Christmas. The movie is the claymation Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindare meets an Edward Gorrey novel. The wide screen version is wonderful for that "in the theater feeling," and the special edition offers extras as seen on DVDs. There is a "making of" documentory, and the short black and white animated project of Burton's called, "Vincent." "Vincent," is the story of a little boy who wants to become Vincent Price when he grows up. The six minute animated film is narrated by Price himself. Also attatched is Burton's first (pre-Pee Wee) live action short: "Frankenweenie." The name gives a clear idea, it's a dog.
"James and the Giant Peach: Special Edition," is also in the wide screan version. Based on the popular (and dark) children's book by author, Roald Dahl (author of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"), this tale is whimsical and fun. A mixture of the stop-motion technology that had been expanded for "Nightmare," this film also uses computer animation for special effects, and live action scenes.
As a bonus, "James," also has a "making of," segment, and a music video for the films song, "Good News." Both, "James," and "Nightmare," have original trailers.
Great fun, "James," gives affirmations for childrens' abilities to accomplish things for themselves, and both ("Nightmare" is better) have wonderful musical numbers. Some of the inhabitants of Holloween Town (in "Nightmare") may be a little bit frightening for really young children, but all and all these aren't just for us older "kids," but can be enjoyed by children of any age.
I loved "Nightmare" when it was new, but had only just seen "James," for the first time. Highly recomended.

I will always be happy to watch a movie with her, but not one that is this stupid.
are you kidding...me?.......2007-02-26
you could serve this movie headless and on a silver platter,
and I will still give it a five.
in fact, it would probably be even funnier that way.
DVDs are huge though; they could have included language tracks from Japanese while they were at it.
ever heard Jack sing 'What's This?' in Japanese? Hilarious.
