Description

A group of young environmental activists become ravenous, unstoppable zombies when a forestry company's genetic experimentation goes disastrously wrong. Sheer terror can't pump enough adrenaline through these bodies to help them out of this remote forest in this gruesome tale of horror. Severed stands heads (and other body parts) above the rest!

1 out of 5 stars Sappy: Forest of Disappointment.......2007-06-25

I had very high hopes for this movie, since I am a huge zombie/undead fan. Consequently this movie was rather humdrum and a bit of a let down. The only thing the movie really had going for it was the scenery, which looks like Alaska. The scenery did create a rather ominous mood, but somehow the end result was flat. The make-up for the zombies/undead was done well. Yet the cinematography was hideous, whenever there was any action or fighting the camera work was so shaky that you really couldn't see anything, this film technique only made me sick and dizzy. Image the Blair Witch Project and a very, very, very tall Captain Morgan.

Another thing that kind of annoyed me was when there was an action sequence the camera seemed to cut away quickly before any real gore or carnage transpired. Come on, this is a zombie/undead movie don't ease up on the blood and guts. Save the suspense and "leave it to the imagination" to film noirs and thrillers, not ZOMBIE/UNDEAD MOVIES!!! Then with about twenty-five minutes left in the movie, an entire group of new characters are introduced for no motive whatsoever. As for the lead characters, they are kind of weak and insipid. Then for some silly purpose to plot (?) there is a no reason romance. Now the rationale for the zombies/undead breakout is explained and does meet horror movie requirements. Nonetheless, there is a scene that could have really produced some havoc outside the main storyline and it never went anywhere. As for the ending, well that was very disappointing too.

If you really want to watch an undead/zombie movie and can't find anything better, give Severed: Forest of the Undead a watch. I did and now I plan on selling my copy.

5 out of 5 stars Forest of the dead!.......2007-06-15

Great zombie flick lots of suspence teists and blood. 28 Days Later in the forest!

1 out of 5 stars one of the suckiest undead movies i've watched.......2007-02-10

The movie totally blows. Ending sucked. Not only does the movie suck but so does their shipping. I got shipped 2 copies of this dumb movie and got charged for both because of their dumbass 1-click ordering muck ups. If I could put in a negative rating I would.

5 out of 5 stars A masterpiece.......2006-12-31

Following in the monumentally ground-breaking cinematographic footsteps of such legendary films as "Sin City", "Saving Private Ryan", and "Cabin Fever", "Severed" delivers an experience so powerful that one might feel as if they have watched the equivalent of Michelangelo painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

The film begins with stupid environmentalists in the forest. When it comes to this movie, the fact that the word mental is in environmentalist is not ironic. They fight a lost cause, and want everyone to live in tee-pees. Their method of obstruction is quite typical: chants, signs, chaining oneself to a tree. Although, they participate in a more dastardly practice as well, "spiking" trees (whatever that is)!

The story transitions masterfully out of the forest and into the boardroom, where a Chairman of the Board (naturally) at a logging company is sitting with his boot-licking sycophants, listening to a report detailing the advancements in agricultural science and the bottom-line impact of experimental tree sap injections - very compelling stuff. This bigwig has a son who he'd like to see follow in the family footsteps; and despite his Willy Loman failures as a father and mentor, he's willing to side with nepotism and let his son, who was late to the meeting, take on the huge responsibility of figuring out what has gone wrong at one of their logging locations.

The plot thickens. I think you see where this is going.

Paul Campbell, who plays the C.O.T.B.'s son, Tyler, delivers a convincing and compelling performance as the dim-witted, silver-spoon son sent in to uncover the logging mystery, and fight off the menacing zombies. What he finds is a forest deluged with both terrorists, I mean hippies, I mean environmentalists, and loggers, all infected by the aforementioned Bunsen burner creation, which, evidently, causes zombieism.

As a side note, I would be remiss if I failed to mention that zombieism is very easy to diagnose throughout the movie, further displaying the range all zombie-playing actors exhibited. Zombieism causes insatiable hunger, retardation, superhuman strength, pervasive jaundice, raging pink eye, and a slight case of cerebral palsy.

Anyway, Tyler meets up with Mac, played by Julian Christopher, the deep-thinking, over-protective supervisor of the logging site. Christopher plays the father figure to perfection, tugging on heartstrings with every provocative utterance. Along with Tyler and Mac is a motley crew of survivors, most notably is Rita, played by Sarah Lind. Rita is the quintessential heroin, an axe-wielding powerhouse, eliciting thoughts of Joan of Arc and that blonde chick from "The Legend of Billie Jean" (Fair is fair!).

What follows is a battle of good versus evil, a battle of two forces, encompassing raw emotional power which has not been matched since the Montagues squared off with the Capulets - the source from which all literary struggles derive. It's the struggle to make it out of the forest alive. Who will survive?

3 out of 5 stars OK, but not great............2006-10-10

I'm a bit dissapointed with some of the other reviews. I suppose "for the budget", this movie was ok, but too bad it didn't go further. Not a bad story, with plenty of potential, but really does fall short of a "must buy" dvd.
Maybe for the novice horror movie lover, but not for the more "seasoned" fan.

After focusing on side characters and comedy for several episodes, the filmmakers return to the struggle against Naraku. The Faceless Man pursuing Kagome is actually Onigumo, the thief Kikyo tended 50 years earlier--who shares a vital relationship with Naraku. After an indecisive duel with Onigumo, Inu-Yasha confronts Naraku and learns that the arch-fiend also has a monthly time of weakness. But unlike Inu-Yasha, Naraku can control the day on which it falls and emerges from each period of vulnerability stronger than before. Determined to learn how to break Naraku's demonic barrier, Inu-Yasha visits the addled sword smith Totosai. Bunza, a diminutive lynx-demon, is also trying to learn the barrier-shattering technique. Inu-Yasha reveals the rarely seen gentle side of his nature as he aids Bunza, even though it doesn't help him learn the sought-after technique. (Unrated, suitable for ages 13 and older: violence, grotesque imagery, nudity) --Charles Solomon

5 out of 5 stars The last episode is just adorable!.......2004-12-21

I give this dvd 5 stars just for the last episode. The times when they show Inu-Yasha as more than just a kick ass warrior who never thinks before he acts and is a stubborn mule is rare indeed, so this episode is to be savored as he develops a brother like relationship with a young lynx demon. It is a stand alone episode but I generally find those to be the best of this series.

5 out of 5 stars Inuyasha, too, can be a nice guy!.......2004-10-17

Really if you don't like the show and hence don't watch it don't bother leaving a review.
I haven't seen the first two episodes on this disk, but I do have an idea of what is going to happen.
However, I have seen Totosai's Rigid Trainging. It's a scream! Inuyasha goes off by himself to Totosai in order to learn a technique that will allow his Tetsusaiga to break through Naraku's barrier. When he arrives he practically begs Totosai to teach him, knowing Totosai never gives free answers. However the senile old fool has just realized he hasn't bathed in a week and is thinking of what he needs to prepare himself a bath. Then we discover there is a lynx demon of Shippo's age (sorry I forgot the kid's name) who has been waiting around for ten days to learn the same barrier-breaking technique. The lynx demon applies the human rules of apprences to their situation which states the first student to arrive gets seniority. He then begins calling Inuyasha "Junior" and bossing him around. To Inuyasha's credit he doesn't punch the kid for his attitude. When Totosai starts muttering outloud what he needs to prepare a bath the two assume he is telling them training techniques, complete spoof on the "Karate Kid". They take off to do the chores before Totosai can correct their beliefs. While fetching the water Inuyasha discovers the Lynx is weak with fever and takes him back to the hut where he had been spending the last ten days. Inuyasha takes care of him and even gives the boy his fish since he hasn't eaten for ten days, the softy! He then completes the chores for Totosai, yes Inuyasha is working like a dog and willingly, too. Totosai and Myoga become terrified of the thought of what Inuyasha would do once he learns the truth behind the chores, the image of Inuyasha's wrath made look like the devil. Then a member of the lynx tribe shows up and tells are little lynx boy that his father is in danger and the reason why the lynx came to learn the technique is finally revealed. A giant mantis had kicked the lynx demon tribe off the mountain and then put a barrier to keep them out. His father had been let in and was now badly hurt and no was able to help him. Inuyasha and lynx boy rush off to save the boy's father. Fortunately, the mantis is so weak that Tetsusaiga is able to break the barrier and destroy the mantis. The grateful Lynx Tribe wave goodbye as Inuyasha returns to Totosai with Lynx boy still calling him "junior". He gets back and Totosai finally confesses the truth of the bath to Inuyasha. The worst he got, though, was a lump on the head as Inuyasha storms out of his volcanoe in a huff. Inuyasha reutrns to the village where Kagome has already come back and discovers the goodies she had brought for him had already been devoured by Shippo since he was gone. He and Shippo get into a fight over the remaining goodies, Kagome calls "sit" and the final line that left my sisters and I howling was Shippo telling Inuyasha that he was going to share with him even though he didn't deserve it.
How did Inuyasha not deserve to have some treats, he didn't lose his temper with that little lynx, despite the kid's attitude, for the entire episode!

      1 out of 5 stars Flesh Feast.......2006-01-09

I have a 4 pak called Flesh Feast with these same films. Let's take each film one by one:
Slave of the Cannibal God-Stacy Keach and original Bond Girl Ursula Andrews. This film was a pretty good adventure film. Some great scenery and pretty enjoyable. 3 stars
The Severed Arm-Not bad, pretty funny and pretty corney but that is ok. 2 stars
I eat your skin-Silly fun movie that takes place on a fictional island where voodoo creates the living dead. 2 stars
The Undertaker and His Pals- Now this is a funny movie. And like someone else stated the Hip Thrusting still has me wondering as well, but that is the silly comedy of this film. The opening scene where the picture of the sailor changes from happy to shock as he sees his girlfriend murdered was creative and funny. I give this film 3 stars. Overall I give the pak 3 stars, would only recommend for people who like silly, creative older films.

      3 out of 5 stars A DVD with 'Taste'.......2004-11-11

Although that was a pun, the selection of movies on this DVD is on the tamer side of cannibal movies. If this upsets someone because they get turned on by movies where animals are slaughtered and women are brutalized, they should seek therapy. There are three movies on this single-sided DVD. 1) 'The Undertaker and His Pals': A campy movie that is thankfully not too long. This movie answers the question, "What happens when you cross Lorenzo Semple, Jr. with H. G. Lewis?". Nobody asked that question but we still got an answer. 'The Undertaker and His Pals tries hard (too hard) at times to be funny. At times it succeeds and at times it falls flat on it's face. I did find humor and some laugh out loud moments in this movie. Some funny moments were intentional, some not, some I had trouble figuring out which (the hip thrusting recoil scene still has me wondering). I found this movie enjoyable enough to watch for it's short 63 minute runtime. It pretty much falls into the category of so bad it's good. If you do not enjoy that type of movie, you probably will not enjoy this. The simple plot of this movie centers on the owners of a diner and a undertaker who plot to kill women for food for the diner and a burial scam for the undertaker (effectively and annoyingly played by Ray Dannis not Ray Dennis as some DVDs have listed him). This also involves a P.I. and a secretary who becomes food and a secretary they want for food (and no, I am not going to make a remark about that, fill in your own blanks). 2) 'The Severed Arm': Several men are trapped in a cave-in. As time passes starvation sets in. The trapped men draw lots to see who will sacrifice a limb so the others can have food. Unfortunately, now for the one-armed man, rescue comes shortly thereafter leaving a bad memory for one survivor and a lingering revenge against the others. To help confuse matters, this movie features Roy Dennis (not Ray Dennis or Ray Dannis). 3) 'I Eat Your Skin', a.k.a. 'Voodoo Blood Bath': This movie was titled 'I Eat Your Skin' to double-bill with 'I Drink Your Blood' in 1971. This at times was gory for the times but nothing like the title suggests. A doctor (call him mad if you want) conducting experiments on a Caribean island (sound familiar) for a cure for cancer instead ends up creating a bunch of bugged eyed zombies. These zombies are not flesheaters as the title suggests but drag people off, beat them, etc. Thankfully there is nobody with the last name of Dennis or Dannis in this movie.-- Aside from the three feature films, this DVD also contains trivia about real ife cannibals. The quality is at or better than VHS and looks good on a 20" TV screen. Please do not eat the DVD.-Bob

      4 out of 5 stars 3 B movies for one cheap price.......2004-01-02

First of all, I should point out that all 3 of these movies are also available on a collection called "Flesh Feast" that also includes "Slave of the Cannibal God." Haven't seen "Flesh Feast" so I don't know if the picture quality is better or worse. You do get a menu on this DVD with actual facts about real-life cannibals, for what it's worth.

That said, "Great Cannibal Classics" is typical of these cheap multi-movie sets: no-frills versions of the movies, no widescreen, etc. I guess if you were to buy these movies individually you might get a better version w/more extras, but this is a cheap way to get exposure to these movies without paying lots of $$$.

The best one on here is "The Undertaker and His Pals." Fans of Herschell Gordon Lewis need to see this one; it's got the mixture of blood and horribly acted 1960's comedy-shock-horror that gave his movies their distinctive flavor. If I didn't know otherwise I would have sworn he directed this one, although it's a little less gory than most of his films. It's about an evil undertaker that supplies the diner next door (actually named the "Greasy Spoon!") with fresh meat. Really hilarious, especially the ending when they show all the actors. Must be seen to be believed.

Then there's "The Severed Arm," some 70's B-trash about men trapped in a cave-in. On the verge of starving to death, they cut off one guy's arm. Five years later, a guy with a hatchet hunts them down one by one. Not as much blood as I had hoped for, and parts of the film can be damn slow. But it has that 70's cheesy charm to it (especially the weird synthesizer soundtrack), and there's a great twisted ending that makes it all worthwhile. Great for fans of cheap horror films that would have played in the 42nd Street grindhouses.

Finallly, "I Eat Your Skin." Apparently this one ran on a double bill with "I Drink Your Blood," which I've never seen. It's 60's black and white island zombie nonsense, where the zombies' bug-eyes look like Muppet style ping-pong ball halves. Don't expect good makeup here. Worth it for the unintentional laughs, especially the action hero lead who womanizes like James Bond. Pretty grainy picture quality.

There's not much actual cannibalism in these movies, so don't expect anything on the level of the Italian zombie gut-munchers. There's not really any gore, with the exception of a couple scenes in The Undertaker and His Pals. I gave this one four stars mainly for the low price. Not knowing whether "Flesh Feast" is better or worse on the picture quality, I can't honestly recommend it over "GCC." But do keep in mind you get that extra movie for the same or even a lower price. If you are a real stickler for picture quality, then stay away. But if high production values matter that much to you, why do you watch B movies in the first place?!?

      5 out of 5 stars A b-movie gem :-).......2006-11-01

A great b movie.Has your typical 1970's blood and gore. Not so much as to make you think it was "over done". The story starts out with a man receiving a mysterious package. Guess what? It's a severed arm! Yikes! Then the story goes backward in time to when 6 Men are trapped in a mine shaft. Time is running out so they make a decision to draw strips of paper and the one with the shortest has to lose his arm to save the other 5 from starvation. Ironically they are saved as Ted Rodgers' arm is being amputated and now a psycho-killer is running around killing off the rest of the group and removing the arm of its victims. Who is this psycho-killer? Is it Ted seeking vengeance? Will Detective Mark find the killer in time? Also there is a nice twist at the end. Picture and sound quality good for a b-movie.

1 out of 5 stars They actually released this movie?.......2006-03-05

I ran a movie review website called "The Severed Head Movie Review" from about 1994 to late 1999. I reviewed movies in the theaters, on video and even had a few independent movie makers submit their movies for review. This was one of those idependent movies that I received in the mail. It was also the last movie I ever reviewed. I was pretty exicited about reviewing it as it was called Severed. That excitement quickly vanished. This movie was terrible. Poor acting all around. Terrible script. Bad audio throughout. Now I see that they actually released it to the public. Dear Lord what were they thinking? It is amazing that they actually got someone to put money into this garbage. The only half way decent acting was the guy doing the autopsy. But even his character was just an old cliche. I got this movie for free and it wasn't worth opening the mailbox for. So please, if you love your family, do not bring this horid attempt at a movie into your home.

      2 out of 5 stars Severed.............2006-03-02

With a title like Severed and being a horror movie fan, I bought this movie. A bit disappointing. Some voodo, but basically the movie is about a FBI agent who sets out to destroy a serial killer they name the Head Hunter. The Head Hunter is known for decapitating people and must be stopped. There is some gore in this movie but overall, a bad attempt to make a good horror flick. I bought this movie cheap, thank goodness but I would recommend anyone interested in this film to rent it! and not spend the money to buy it!

2 out of 5 stars OFF WITH THEIR HEADS.......2005-02-18

First of all, this movie is so poorly lit it's hard to tell what's going on most of the time. The plot or what little there is centers on a serial killer who is actually some kind of voodoo god, who goes around decapitating people..sometimes the people he beheads are worthless people; other times he just grabs somebody because he needs a soul. Matt Green (who also directed VICIOUS) employs little true suspense, settling for a couple of long pointless foot chases, a hilarious ATV chase and the obligatory car chase that is about as exciting as My Mother the Car. Vanessa Sanchez, Peter Reh, Nehemiah and Mark Harris are the stars and their acting abilities together couldn't equal one Sasha Mitchell (and he's pretty bad). The only reason for 2 stars is the movie does manage a neat twist at the end. Otherwise, SEVERED joins the list of movies that Mystery Theater wouldn't even have fun with.

      1 out of 5 stars Oh please.......2004-07-14

This movie sucks, big time ... though sadly this isn't the worst I've seen (*cough* Dark Heaven, Kill By Inches *cough*) but this is severely bad.
If you like low budget, boring horror films, this is the one for you. Other than that, don't waste your time or money unless you want to see for yourself how bad this movie really is.

3 out of 5 stars hey this is based on an old movie.......2003-09-16

5 out of 5 stars This disk has it all..........2005-08-09

This is a wide range of short stories gathered together by Eric Stanze (SAVAGE HARVEST, ICE FROM THE SUN, SCRAPBOOK). Fans of gore, comedy, and experimental shorts alike will definitely enjoy this collection. I enjoyed them all from Emmy award winning music video, "Curveball - Pile of Junk," directed by Jason Christ (ICE FROM THE SUN, SAVAGE HARVEST 2: OCTOBER BLOOD) to Aaron Crozier's musical comedy short, "Liontown." This disk has something for everyone to enjoy. Recommend highly to any fan of independent film!

        5 out of 5 stars Simple Excellence.......2005-07-17

One of the best independent short film compilation DVD's ever made in my eyes. From hilarious comedy shorts to horrifying intense shorts this is the most bang for my buck I have. Two of the best pieces in my eyes are LIONTOWN, written and directed by Aaron Crozier (Director and writer of GRUMBOON), and starring Matt Sinnople (Actor in the up and coming DEADWOOD PARK and THE MATT SINNOPLE SHOW), and VICTIM, written and directed by Jason Christ (Director and writer for the up and coming SAVAGE HARVEST II and actor in DEADWOOD PARK).

5 out of 5 stars Worth every penny.......2003-08-06

The Severed Head Network DVD is a collection of short movies from directors all over the U.S.
There is a ton of talented independent filmmakers out there needing an outlet for their work. This DVD provided that outlet for some of those filmmakers.
I was inspired and impressed from beginning to end. This is a must see for any aspiring filmmaker or anyone that wants to see the future of cinema.
