Add to these elementary menaces, demonic dolls with a really perverted idea of playtime, and a ghost nurse with a disturbing bedside manner, and you've got a pretty good idea of what insane, spooky, and hysterical hijinks that await you in the most gleefully controversial and gut-bustingly funny anime you've ever seen.

The Sophomore...er... Junior Slump.......2006-06-22

Whenever something really good comes along, expectations for the follow-up are extremely high. Whenever these expectations aren't met, the term used to describe it is "sophomore slump." Seeing as the second volume of Ghost Stories was about as funny as you can get, it was inevitable that a dip in quality show up at some part of the series. In Ghost Stories vol 3: Junior Jitters, the dip is here and boy is it steep. While most of the episodes have their moments of laugh-out-loud humor, the humor to non-humor ratio is seriously unbalanced. The problem seems to be that in this batch of episodes, the original intent was more or less to pull on the heart strings so the all the jokes just don't mesh well with two of the episodes. The episodes about the ghost of the dead cab-driver and the death of Satsuki's mother have some funny jokes, but most of the humor just falls flat. The episodes that aren't trying to get the viewers bawl like a pregnant woman watching lifetime, are a little better but never reach the humor factor of previous volumes. One of these episodes involves a animal obsessed girl reviving a dead rabbit ala Pet Cemetary and the other finds Satsuki being harassed by an evil doll.
As Ghost Stories is an episodic series, I think that if you are on a tight budget you could definitely skip this volume. On the whole it's meh.

Watch it in Japanese!.......2006-04-02

Ok, normally I am very happy with ADV dubbing but this series goes way off track when it comes to representing the Japanese original. For example, in the original Japanese this volume shows a sad story about a cab driver who loves his daugther and tragically dies on his way home on her birthday. In the english, father is a drunk who abuses his daughter. It's just not funny anymore. The first volume was funny I'd admit, but by the second volume it became rapidly inappropriate. If you love constant fart and sexually explicit jokes, as well as constant cursing, by all means watch it with the english dubbing. But if you want to know what this anime is actually about, watch it in Japanese with it's english subtitles.

I was a huge fan of Ghost Stories from the second I began watching it, and it pleases me to say that the series just keeps on getting better and better. For all of you reading this review I'm not going to go into the whole script changing explanation manly because if your reading a review for volume. 3 of a TV series, you probably already know what the whole thing is about, so yea.

Heres a review for each episode:

Episode 9: In episode 9 Hajime volenteers Sasuki for pet Duty at the school, however Satsuki is not alone to take care of the animals, she has Mio Imai, who has been caretaker of the animals for the past few years at the school, to help her. But catastrophe strikes when Shirotabi, a rabbit previously owned by the school rises from the dead, is this a freak occurence or is someone behind this freak occurence?
Yea, so that's basically the plot of the episode, and boy what an episode it was. It was extremely hilarious, as usual, but actually for once there was no Amanojaku in it whatsoever, but thats just for one episode.

Grade: A+

Episode 10: Episode 10 is basically about a tunnel that's haunted by a cab driver who died there previously before hand, and of course, in short, the gang has to put him to spiritual sleep before they are sucked into the spirit world.
Yea, I know, that was kind of a crummy plot summary, but it's good enough I guess. Anyway, this episode was once again hilarious and gave each cast member equal parts in the episode, which was good considering besides Satsuki and Hajime the other cast members weren't in it as much in the last episode. Still once again, awesome episode, hilarious.

Grade: A+

Episode 11: Episode 11 starts off with Keicherro finding a doll in the trash can. So from there Keicherro asks if he can take it home, and Satsuki says no. So what does the doll do, Duh, it follows them home and it's basically trying to kill Satsuki the whole episode.
This episode was very funny, just like the others. Also, if you watch food network, theres one line in this episode that's really really funny, I know it may sound strange but it's just a little comment I had to add.

Grade: A+

Episode 12: This is the final episode on the disc and I'm not going to reveal to much more rather than it explains alot about Momoko and the death of Satsuki's and Ketcherro's(I cant spell his name) mom.
Once again another great episode, but it's prectically completely absent of Leo and Hajime, but despite this it's still hilarious.

Grade: A+

All in all that was an excellent volume of G.S. I swear it gets funnier every time I buy the new volume. I have to say though this show is definitelly not for small children. Parts of it, although very funny, are very offensive. But still don't miss this volume, it's great just like the others.

DVD review: The DVD was very good, ADV did a nice job with the transfer and nothing ever looks blurry or ridgid. The sound is great too with no problems whatsoever. Unfortunatelly though, as usual this DVD was light on extras. But still a nice DVD non the less.

When you see this volume, you might feel that's like another film stuff, "Pet cemetery" or "Child's play" for example... some of these episodes are actually pretty alike.
but sure, this is not imitation, because this is based on stories of Japanese children's Rumors for long years, they have been influenced in unconsciously from grown-ups told these classic scary story's script.
anyway, I appreciate the working of the ADV and voice actors and voice actress to amuse me, it's very very funny!
I enjoyed bran-new scary comedy storis!
I can't wait for the next volume.

Volume three of this three-disc set covers ghosts at the Grand Canyon, the ghost of Red Feather, and the phenomenon of channeling. Worthy subjects all for a serious, in-depth documentary. Unfortunately, this show is only interested in piquing the viewer's curiosity about such mysterious realms, and not about speculation on the nature of the phenomena. That leaves interesting eyewitness accounts, and the august presence of Patrick Macnee (The Avengers) as host, to keep us in thrall. Not nearly enough, I'm afraid. The show is further marred by dizzying video effects, meant to simulate a ghost's-eye-view. Ghost-cam! You'll be reaching for a bucket or your Dramamine, whichever comes first. The video and sound quality are so poor on these discs that one wonders why they would ever have needed to be on DVD. --Jim Gay
