The Disney touch is all over this grand, colorful version of the Johann Wyss adventure of a European family set off for the new world of New Guinea. The film opens on a ship jostled and torn by a raging storm while a family struggles to make it through alive. Tossed into a reef near a deserted tropical island, father John Mills takes charge and the family soon turns their island prison into a veritable paradise. Their multilevel tree house, built in record time, is complete with running water and a working pipe organ scavenged from the ship, while their grand yard is abloom in English roses. As a tale of hardship and pioneer pluck, the tale is pure fantasy, but as entertainment it's energetic and appealing. The island is impossibly populated by ostriches, zebras, lions, and elephants, a private zoo that delights the youngest boy and offers plenty of comic relief. The two older brothers discover even wilder life when they rescue the prisoner of oriental pirates (led by hard-bitten Sessue Hayakawa). There's little real danger anywhere in the film--even the climactic battle with the pirates is a cartoonish affair, with coconut bombs and nonlethal booby traps, until the final desperate, deadly moments. Hardly a faithful adaptation of the novel, but a lush, beautifully photographed film and an entertaining adventure safe for all ages. Dorothy McGuire costars as the proper, worry-prone mother. (Ages 5 and older) --Sean Axmaker

5 out of 5 stars Knew I could find.......2007-06-04

My son loved the movie Swiss Family Robinson when he was little. I have looked for it previously in stores but could not find. I knew we could find it on Amazon. I have told my grandchildren about the movie and the adventures the family has on an island. I got this movie for my son for Father's day so he can share it with his children. The movie is funny, adventurous, and shows so much ingenuity when the family needs shelter. It is a good family movie all will enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Swiss Family Robinson (DVD).......2007-06-01

This is a great movie. I bought the DVD To ensure my Grandchildern had a chance to see this Movie.

5 out of 5 stars One Of Our Family's Favorite Classic Stories.......2007-05-11

This DVD contains Disney's adaptation of the original book, Der Schweizerische Robinson, written by author Johann David Wyss, in 1812. It is one of the finer works of Disney, in my opinion. The story of this family's struggles and determination, difficulties and joys is good watching (and good reading) for every member of the family. One of the most delightful aspects of this work is the emphasis placed upon good character, family values, and self-reliance. I recommend this movie to everyone...

5 out of 5 stars Talk about a CLASSIC!!!.......2007-05-10

You can't go wrong here! My siblings and I LOVED this movie as kids. I bought it for my son and daughter when they were younger and again, they LOVED it and watched it (and quoted it) repeatedly. I am now buying it for my young (7ish) nephews to enjoy. Probably my favorite no-cartoon Disney flick of all time!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Family Movie.......2007-04-03

This is an excellent movie. I am so glad I purchased it for my son. I got it for his birthday 7 and at first he didnt really have an interest in watching it, but he was home from school sick one day and we watched it and I couldnt tear him away. He loved it! Its adventure, imagination, and fun all rolled into one.

Optimism shines in this classic 1960 Disney film starring Hayley Mills. When the newly orphaned Pollyanna comes to live with her wealthy aunt in Harrington Town, life looks promising. Despite her aunt's insistence on propriety and modesty, Pollyanna's cheerful, optimistic ways spread throughout the town--converting even a cantankerous recluse and a whining hypochondriac. Only Aunt Polly has trouble welcoming her young niece into her heart. In a clash between the townspeople and Aunt Polly over local politics, it's Pollyanna's influence that helps individual townspeople find the inner strength to stand up for their own beliefs. When Pollyanna is involved in a serious accident, Aunt Polly finally realizes how much she loves her niece. Can Aunt Polly and the entire town somehow restore Polly's optimism and ensure a full recovery? Pollyanna is wholesome entertainment that will leave the entire family eager to play the "glad game." --Tami Horiuchi

Description

Hayley Mills received a special Academy Award(R) for her performance as Pollyanna in this timeless Walt Disney tapestry of small-town Americana. Here you'll meet Pollyanna, the orphan who brings sunshine into the lives of everyone she meets. But her Aunt Polly (Jane Wyman) is too concerned with appearances, propriety, and local politics to appreciate her effervescent niece. It isn't until the town almost loses their "Glad Girl" that Aunt Polly realizes the power of love and lightheartedness. Featuring an impressive all-star cast and a story filled with fun, laughter, and tears, POLLYANNA will inspire your entire family and prove that the art of positive thinking is just as delightful today as it was at the turn of the century!

5 out of 5 stars Part of a must-have collection.......2007-07-05

There are certain movies a 10 year old girl (like my daughter, Caley) must have: Swiss Family Robinson, Pippi Longstocking, Matilda, The Secret Garden, Labyrinth, and Pollyanna. I was hoping she would like them as much as I did when I was a kid. She does!

5 out of 5 stars Pollyanna.......2007-06-28

Colorful, delightful Disney fare boasts a first-rate cast, including veterans Wyman (who's excellent), Karl Malden, Agnes Moorehead, Donald Crisp, and Adolphe Menjou, but young Mills (in her first stateside Disney appearance) steals it from all of them, carrying the movie with her natural, guileless performance. Gorgeously shot, with wonderful turn of the century detail, this is a winner from start to finish.

5 out of 5 stars Pollyanna.......2007-03-12

This movie is my all-time favorite childhood. I had the sound track and played it so much that I still have it memorized (I drove my parents NUTS!), . It's a wonderful movie and I still pull it out to watch it often! If you've never seen it, get it for your kids.

4 out of 5 stars Play the "Glad Game!".......2007-01-30

My family often tells the negative people that they need a little "Pollyanna." If you don't know the reference, you need to see this amazing old-school Disney movie. Starring Hayley Mills, also the lead in the original "The Parent Trap," it is a "feel-good" film with a positive theme. As a young adult, I have slowly been buying DVDs of all of my favorite childhood films so my children can view them in the future. (Too bad something called Blue Tooth is now being pushed!) This is definitely one of those that every young child should see! With everything from dress-up to songs to chase scenes and frightening old hermits, this film incorporates a lot of popular images for children. It does, however, have a somewhat religious undertone due to the size of the fictional town and the background of Pollyanna herself; it is not, though, overwelminly religious. Rather, it has a positive theme encouraging following the golden rule. I watched it recently with a friend of mine and some other adults and we all enjoyed it too. Way to go, Disney! Films for all ages.

5 out of 5 stars Great set list.......2006-07-10

The 87 summer tour (six cities)was mostly played in large outdoor stadiums, which I believe was a first for the Dead. This tour followed up their only top ten hit Touch of Grey, and so they got a little more limelight, so to speak.

With that being said, the Oakland set list is comprised of some of my favorite songs and Brent locks it down with an awesome Dear Mr. Fantasy.

The Anaheim show again shows signs of the fact Dylan was touring with them with a nice Masterpiece.

The second set was on fire - but how can you go wrong with no break in the music, all the songs were played "into" one another, and for the most part - played real tight. The Throwing Stones (which was generally kind of walked through so often) was played with vigor and they end with a great ending song, Not Fade away.

The special effects were not added, they simply mimicked what was on the projection screens. My only gripe is those ugly tight shorts Bobby loved to wear are omnipresent again. And does anyone really like seeing the Dead in such a large stadium. They really seem disconnected from the crowd, which is a shame with such a great show. Place this show in a more intimate setting and this becomes a classic.

The one aspect that makes this DVD worth owning is the stellar performance of Brent. Watch his eyes and jaw and see if you can "name that drug" that he was on.

    5 out of 5 stars But - I miss the Dylan sets!.......2006-06-12

The Oakland show was my second Dead show. I got "on the bus" in Eugene - went to see Bob Dylan, LOVED the live Dead experience. Too bad they couldn't get clearance to put the third sets and encores with Dylan on these concerts (of course, then they would probably be two separate releases).

    Memories -

"doses - get your ice cold doses!"

Bobby going nuts on "Hell in a Bucket"
    - "least I'm enjoyin' the ride!"

The low-budget special effects on the Oakland A's big Jumbotron behind the stage - the colors would change, and I would change them back in my head.

A woman having a bummer trip in front of me on the ground - tore my heart out!

Frisbee in the parking lot for hours after the show.

The eyeball rolling back and forth across the dashboard of our vehicle as we drove south to where we were crashing - with the California Highway Patrol following us for a few miles before passing us by.

    5 out of 5 stars Fine Summer 87 presentations.......2006-01-01

This is a superb show from 1987 ( 2 shows ) that remind me of the wonderful privilige of seeing a ' good ' dead show. Because sometimes they were lacking energy.

Objectively I lived in the US for 16 years, saw 6 GD shows ( still own ) 1000 + hrs of their music on dat format. And saw and taped 17 Further festival / other ones shows between 96 & 98. I think the 98 tour was the best I ve seen / heard and did justice to what we the fans, needed to see and hear at that particular moment of GD history.

Back to this video; I m glad we got two shows on it. There is not one song that is below standard or doubtful ( in its delivery ). The first show - Oakland - is fantastic, but the second - Anaheim - just kicks a**, as we get a pre drums treatment that happenned a few times per year: Shakedown > LL Rain > Terrapin St. The post production remastering comes in nicely here, as we get what I would play for anyone to turn onto this band.

It also makes me remember excellent moments live that I experienced. Like on 23.07.94 at Soldier field. The fantastic Lucy in the sky, followed by a one of a kind Playin > Terrapin'. Being a christian, I have to share with you that we on earth receive spiritual blessings by our father ( god ). And on that night in Chicago in 94, we got some good spiritual blessings because the Lucy in the sky, and Playin > Terrapin were out of sight ( other worldly ). And if anyone reading here was there, you can maybe recall the image of Jesus that was flashed on the screens when the band was in the middle of a beautiful jam in Cassidy; which was washed by a gorgeous green light show with trees and really cool stuff = ) You re probably thinking, ' This guy remembers well that night '. Well, good Grateful Dead shows were always remembered with extremely positive opinions

So, to GD Productions..How about releasing 23.07.94 or 21.07 Deer Creek, which were mi first and second shows. At least one them = )

Additionally, how about some good 86, 85, or 84 shows that may have intriguing video feeds. 29.07.88 Laguna seca would be a good dvd. 15.06.85 ( !! ) Greeks. 20.08.87 Park city, UT,

    Frost Amp. 27.04.85

    Cheers

    2 out of 5 stars BUMMER!.......2005-06-02

Hey, like you know, there's too much psychedelic swirls and color fuzzy negatives, along with delayed and staggered visuals, and like, man, I can't get to "see" the Dead let alone be distracted by these visual effects, man! I don't need to drag out the bong for this one, man. Hey, like what's happenin' man? Who put the stash in the DVD player and lit it?

Seriously folks, there's too much effort put into this one regarding visual effects rather than more effort to focus on the Dead and its music. Good choice of songs, good performances, but WHY WHY WHY - do we need all of that visual stuff? It sort of spoils it!

I've reviewed a few Dead media (Books, tapes, and DVDs - look em up if you liked this one!) and most of them very favorably - now that might sound kind of slanted, but here we have a DVD that is way beyond the pale regarding special effects. C'mon guys, enough of the eye candy, huh?!!

    4 out of 5 stars Don't sweat the cheesy effects...Very solid shows.......2004-07-15

I was looking for my first Dead DVD and I kept reading the same thing in all the reviews, that they were weak because of the graphics and effects. Well, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised: the effects aren't half as bad as I expected, and more importantly, the shows are really good. Great video and audio quality, great setlists, and overall solid performances from the boys.
    Highlights:
    1. Bobby on My Brother Esau, Hell in a Bucket, and Throwing Stones
    2. Jerry's playing on Deal and Scarlet
    3. Iko Iko
    4. Shakedown
This DVD is great, and if it's any indication of the quality of other GD/VFTV releases, I'll be buying more.

There's nothing hip about this vintage Disney film that begins and ends with a corny song about the "best doggone dog in the West." But that's the beauty of Old Yeller, originally released in 1957. The simple, heart-warming story of a boy who bonds with a feisty stray dog in 1860s Texas is full of 1950s sensibilities: A Donna Reed-style perfect "Momma" (Dorothy McGuire) who knows best, a couple of brothers who quarrel in the best sitcom tradition, and a father (Fess Parker, in a small role) who goes off to provide for his family, leaving his older boy (Tommy Kirk) in charge and his incredibly cute younger one (Kevin Corcoran) to steal as many scenes in the movie as he possibly can. With Old Yeller at his side, Kirk becomes a little man, who in the end must make a decision so heart-breaking that it's one of filmdom's most memorable moments. --Valerie J. Nelson

    Description

No film better captures the powerful emotions of hope, courage, and friendship than this treasured and much beloved classic, OLD YELLER. The quintessential tale of a boy's love for his dog has touched the hearts of millions, its enduring legacy growing with each new generation and it's "still one of the best!" (Leonard Maltin) Set amidst the landscape of 1860s Texas, a young boy named Travis (Tommy Kirk) wants nothing to do with the lop-eared stray. 4 out of 5 stars Best Doggone Dog in the West.......2007-03-07

Life was tough in the old west. There were wild critters, Native Americans (annoyed that someone was taking their land, again), insufficient rain, the lecherous fat guy looking to mooch your food, and hydrophoby (hydrophobia, also known as rabies). Yep, life was tough in the old west. But no problem, Katie Coates (classy actor Dorothy McGuire who appeared in numerous roles in movies such as "Friendly Persuasion," "Swiss Family Robinson," and "Summer Magic") manages to survive everything with the support of son Travis (Disney regular Tommy Kirk). Katie needed help because her other son Arliss (Kevin Corcoran, another Disney regular) was an obnoxious brat.

Father Jim Coates (Fess Parker, who was already a huge success in Disney's Davy Crockett shows) goes on a trip, leaving Katie, Travis and Arliss to fend for themselves. Before long a big yellow dog shows up, much to Arliss's delight. Initially Travis resents the dog because it causes him a lot of work when the dog causes destruction on the farm. However, the big yellow dog is friendly and manages to save Arliss's life. Old Yeller even wins Travis's love.

Much of this movie is a comedy. Arliss and Old Yeller keep us entertained with their antics. Old Yeller is so big and lovable that you have to laugh sometimes. Old Yeller is also very protective of his new family.

As I said before, life is tough in the old west. Wild animals existed all around the Coates homestead. One day a wolf attacks the family. The only thing that saves the family is the big yellow dog. Katie quickly realizes that the wolf had rabies, and she pens Old Yeller up to learn whether the wolf has given Old Yeller rabies.

I leave you to watch the end of the movie for yourself.

"Old Yeller" is one of those movies that deliberately tugs at your heartstrings. Even I struggled to keep my eyes from watering when Travis faced Old Yeller in the shed. However, Disney movies nearly always end with a message of hope and love, and so does this one.

Sometimes it feels good to have your emotions manipulated, even if you are sad for a little while. This movie does it so well that you may want to watch it twice in a row.

    Enjoy!

1 out of 5 stars Worst Doggone movie is the world!!!!!!!.......2006-10-26

I watched this film because everyone said it is a classic. Like many classics it is anything but. Why does everyone cry at this movie? I didn't cry at this movie; I didn't anything close to tears. This is not because I hate dogs, I think that dogs are not people and that the dog was better off after he was shot. Also this movie may have been much better if the acting had be decent. The acting of the boy made me laugh instead of cry when the dog died. And if his little brother had spoken one more time I would have screamed. This same little boy is in many Disney films and every time he is unbarable. So unless you have a love for punnishment don't watch this movie.

    2 out of 5 stars Dissapointed me.......2006-06-26

First, you must know I love animals, I love movies and I love movies in which I can cry my heart out. I have cried on almost every movie I have ever saw, but somehow this movie didn't make me cry.
I guess that isn't a real bond for having a dog for such a small period of time....
It's a nice movie, not big deal

    5 out of 5 stars You Are So Beautiful, . . . To Me.......2006-04-24

Disney has done outstanding films about a boy and his dog - Old Yeller tops them all, including Lassie w/Roddy McDowell. And this DVD set comes with a second disc filled with an array of quick dog flicks coupled with interviews of people in the dog flick business.

This 1957 movie is set in pre-Civil War America and centers around a frontier family whose "Pa" (played by Fess Parker) heads out on a cattle drive and leaves his eldest son, Travis, (is he only twelve?) in charge of "Ma" and his little brother Arliss. The boy feels like the odd one out with his little brother getting all the attention, until a stray yellow dog turns up. Travis and Old Yeller become best friends.

Old Yeller wins the rest of the family over too by saving Arliss from a bear, saving the sweet corn from raccoons, and protecting Travis from wild hogs. The hog fight leaves both boy and dog with flesh wounds from their frightful encounter and everyone worried whether either of the two would come down with rabies. However, they both recover without incident.

Then Old Yeller has a run-in with a wolf. Soon after, Old Yeller is frothing at the mouth trying to get out of the shed that Travis put him in as a precaution. Travis keeps telling his mother that Old Yeller will get better. But Old Yeller becomes so sick and so out his mind, that Travis has to become a man and put his best friend out of his misery.

This film made Sputnik look like a hot-air balloon!

5 out of 5 stars Archives ,The Best!!.......2006-04-08

Disc. 2 is the best part of the set!, with all the doggy extras and interviews. I am forever grateful to the reviewers that detailed what disc 2,of the DVD Vault collection has on it!!I have searched for 20 years for The Arizona Sheepdog movie because I own relatives of the Border collies featured. Its not the entire movie but, 18 minutes is better than nothing.I never would have found it without the reviewers that described what was on disc 2. Old Yeller is sad but, realistic of life and the happiness we can get from our dogs, through they are with us for only a short time.

The daughter of legendary British actor John Mills and novelist Mary Hayley Bell (as well as the sister of actress Juliet Mills), young Hayley Mills broke the surface of fame at the tender age of 12, starring opposite her father in the thriller Tiger Bay. That film, along with a Berlin Film Festival award, was enough to attract the attention of Walt Disney, who promptly signed her to a five-year contract and put her in the starring role of Pollyanna. After wringing hearts and nabbing a special Oscar, Mills segued into the comedy thing--for double the fun--in The Parent Trap, the 1961 farce in which she played twins, separated at birth, who scheme to reunite their biological parents (Maureen O'Hara and Brian Keith, both surprisingly sexy for a Disney movie). On the brink of adolescence, Mills was a saucy role model for children of the Kennedy era: cute, endearing and, above all, wholesome despite her sneaky ways--everyone's meddlesome sister. Easily stepping into the Disney child-star gap as the original Mouseketeers were (literally) outgrowing their uniforms, Mills was the studio's live-action bread and butter for a brief moment in time, and The Parent Trap still remains her best vehicle, a classic now to adults who came of age during the early '60s. It also pioneered the processed split-screen technique, which while not seamless was revolutionary and exciting enough that, upon seeing the initial results, Uncle Walt asked the filmmakers to shoot more scenes in which Mills played opposite herself. --Mark Englehart

4 out of 5 stars OLD FAVORITE DISNEY GREAT CAST!.......2007-04-12

This has always been one of my favorite Disney live action films. Haley Mills does a good job with her double duty and O'Hara and Keith are excellent as always. The Vault Collection version is a worthy puchase, sure they could have cleaned up the print more, but it looks pretty good and there are lots of extras. Disney has been guilty of not doing there films justice anyway. Other than a few of the animated gems, they have release sub par fullscreen and dirty prints for years.

5 out of 5 stars Comparative Review Original to Newer Double Trouble Version.......2006-12-28

Have seen both versions of Parent Trap and both are excellent. For a first time viewer would recommend the newer 1998 Double Trouble version for first viewing with the original also recommended for second viewing. First because as an adult watching both movies I found the tension between the parents more interesting and believable in the Double Trouble version and second because the print quality of the newer Double Trouble version is/was superior to the vault version of the original. The contrast of print quality is striking because Disney restored the vault version of Pollyanna also starring Hayley Mills and it looks brand new with sharp images, excellent color and a print that is not faded at all whereas the vault version of the original Parent Trap does not have as sharp images, has darkened slightly and the color while good is clearly not of the same quality as the restored Pollyanna vault version. The acting in both Parent Trap versions is excellent including both Hayley Mills and Lindsay Lohan. So would recommend Double Trouble version for first viewing and if you get hooked as I did going for the original version second. The Vault version is loaded with extras, so for me I am glad to have both versions.

3 out of 5 stars Hate to Say It - But Liked the New One Much Better.......2006-11-04

I know that I'm going against the grain here after having read all of the 5 star reviews, but I just recently re-watched the original from the beginning after many, many years. What is amazing to me is how many vices are present in this movie. We always seem to refer to the 50's and 60's as the innocent years, but I was surprised to see the 'smoking' grandfather, the 'drinking' minister and the amount of yelling and screaming that went on between Mitch and Maggie. What I found the most disturbing was the face slap by Vickie at the end of the movie. You really don't see any of these things in the newer version and for my childen's sake, I'm glad. I have always liked both Hayley Mills and Maureen O'Hara and they are really terrific in this movie. Brian Keith is his usual self - I've never been very impressed with his acting abilities. Overall, I'm a much bigger Dennis Quaid fan and thought he played the part of the father very well - a much more touching version.

One thing that I did discover, which I thought was very clever on Disney's part was casting Joanna Barnes, who plays Vicky in the original, as Vicky Blake, Meredith's mother in the remake. Her use of the word 'pet' in both movies is what made me think it might be the same actress and sure enough, it is! Maybe everyone else realized this, but I did not. Bravo Disney.

I still think this is a classic Disney movie, but after having seen both of them recently again, my vote is for the newer version.

5 out of 5 stars I love The Parent Trap.......2006-08-24

I Probably watched this movie over 100 times. The new one with Lindsey Lohan was nice, but the old one is an original and more relaxing. Hayley Mills was great!

The story is about 2 girls who meet at summer-camp and are always fighting, because they look like each other--- or something like that. When they find out that they have the same parents and are sisters, one wants to meet her dad and one wants to meet her mother. As they do this, one of the parents have to unswitch them and they will have to meet.

I think this is a very fun movie and I never get tired of it.

    4 out of 5 stars Cute movie.......2006-08-07

This is another of those Disney movies that so endeared the company to the families of america. Good fun for the family.

Since 1994, Grateful Dead Productions has answered Deadheads' demands for full, live concerts, releasing a series of shows (blemishes and all) on CD entitled Dick's Picks. So it was only a matter of time before the company dug into the video footage archives. Critics may find the idea of releasing Grateful Dead concert videos amusing. After all, the staunchest Deadhead likely would admit that even on their best nights the boys weren't visually all that exciting a bunch to watch. That said, this full-length show from July 8, 1990 (a mere 16 days before keyboardist Brent Mydland died of a speedball overdose) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, offers an intimate look at the dynamics that few could notice when attending a stadium show. For instance, there's the wonderful interplay between guitarist Jerry Garcia and Mydland--each shooting smiles and knowing winks--at each other during "Greatest Story Ever Told." But, really, let's forget the philosophizing and get to the point: Deadheads really want to know the highlights of a particular show. There are several here, including a beautiful, lilting "Eyes of the World," a head-spinning "Let It Grow," Garcia's poignant delivery of the morbid "Black Peter," and, perhaps best of all, an improvisational, untitled jam that emerges from "He's Gone" (this is bonus material from a show two nights before in Louisville, Kentucky). While the entire show is by no means a peak performance by the Dead (though it features a terrific sound mix), it's still a great start to a series that one hopes will continue to evolve. --Dave McCoy

Jerry, Mickey, Bill, Phil, Brent and Bob thrill a packed stadium with the classic performance style that is uniquely their own. This contains both day and night footage, including the first ever video released version of the huge hit "A Touch of Grey".

The DVD version contains over an extra hour of additional footage shot from Cardinal's Stadium during the same tour.

2 out of 5 stars Not very good.......2005-05-09

I was at this Dead show on a miserably hot and humid evening in the summer of 1990. Perhaps the record heat affected the Dead's performance. It was the most lackluster Dead concert I ever attended (out of six). This video was made from the feed to the screen above the stage and the sound board mix. Thus, the boring special effects and the flat sound quality on this release. Get the Grateful Dead Movie (see my review on it) instead of this, and let's hope for some better quality releases of some of the Dead's prime shows from the late '80s to '95. There were some great ones.

5 out of 5 stars Take it for what it is........2004-05-21

Okay folks, you need to take this DVD for what it is. The footage is from 1990. You can't expect the band to be in its prime (it's not '72 or '77), you can't expect special effects to be on par with what people are putting out today. You can't expect for them to have accounted for new fangled wide-screen TV's. The footage here is as it was presented on the stadium screens and is, presumably, the only full length video available (especially with a synched audio track), it was also intended to be a supplement to the live show, not replace it. What this DVD is, is an archival record of one moment in the Dead's history. Just like trading tapes and buying Dick's picks won't transport you to the moment this won't either, but it does add another dimension, and it's nice to be able to pop in the disk and see the boys doin what they do. Don't expect a slick purpose made DVD and you won't be dissapointed. That having been said it is a good setlist and, for 1990, a very good show. The second set rocks Samson>Eyes>Estimated (yes Eyes>Estimated)>Terrapin>Jam>Drums>Space>... Yes there is a pink panther walking across the screen in the second set, but if that bothers you haven't properly been fulfilling your second set duties.

1 out of 5 stars No No No No No!.......2003-09-06

This is not the Grateful Dead you know and have come to love. Their playing is terrible, very sad. Don't buy if you want to have good memories of them.

    5 out of 5 stars Get A Grip!!!.......2002-12-20

When I read the following remark in the editorial review of this video I HAD TO SPEAK UP!!!... "After all, the staunchest Deadhead likely would admit that even on their best nights the boys weren't visually all that exciting a bunch to watch."...What a ludicrous statement, these guys are ALWAYS great to watch! Anyway, the viddie is great and I'm sure that most staunch deadheads agree with me. kewl

4 out of 5 stars Great Background noise, terrible video production.........!!.......2002-11-04

"There is nothing like the Grateful Dead" This DVD was very disappointing. It is a good performance by the band and the sound quality is good, but the film lacks the widescreen viewing capabilities. When viewing on my widescreen TV, the band looks distorted and like a bunch of midgets! I have found this DVD makes for great background music while cleaning, reading, chilling etc, but to sit down for 2.5 hrs, FAHGETABOUTIT! I just saw the View from the Vault 3 in the store and it looks like it is recorded in the same format.. what a damn shame! Who would have thought a band so technologically advanced could screw up DVD production...I blame the producers.

    5 out of 5 stars Awesome video.......2007-06-12

This video is a must have for any Weezer fan. It gives you a look at the band from before they signed, up to the tour for Maladroit. The real jewels for this video are the Pinkerton sessions, where you hear portions of rehearsals for gems like "I Just Threw Out The Love of My Dreams" and the long sought after "Superfriend" (come on guys, you've GOT to re-record this one, it's that good).

Get this video, you won't be disappointed.

All the videos you'd want and more. Great quality. A must for any Weezer fan to enjoy.

    5 out of 5 stars Definetly a Treasure! (4 1/2 stars).......2006-01-17

When reading the back and the paper inside the box about the Video Capture Device, I thought that Weezer had been ripped off. I mean, they put so much stuff in, like all the videos, interviews, live performances, and making of the records, and I just bought it all for $14. When I watched it, I loved it. But I could have done without all the home movies and the making of things; they are mostly watching Weezer mess around, and the picture quality isn't that great in them. But the music videos are awesome. Especially the Happy Days clip for Buddy Holly, the Muppet performance Keep Fishin, and I don't know why but I really liked the one for El Scorcho (which apparantly in the commentary the rest of the band hated). Its also cool in the ones for Dope Nose and Slob that Rivers Cuomo (the frontman) has a beard.

So its not a perfect dvd but its great. They could have also put Rivers in the commentary.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best DVD, worth every penny.......2005-11-28

If you are a Weezer fan of any kind, this is the DVD for you, I promise. The first time I saw the DVD, I thought the endless amount of videos and music were incredible. This is truly the epitome of a good "band DVD", none of that unauthorized bull. If you love Weezer, this is definitely worth your time and money.

5 out of 5 stars The definitive =w=.......2005-09-30

This is a DVD that will appeal to diehard and casual Weezer fans alike, whether you've been rocking with them for the better part of a decade or are have just discovered them, all can appreciate the contents of this disk. The videos are something to treasure in their own right but it also contains the making of the albums, rare concert footage, and biographys. The live acoustic version of "Pink Triangle" is worth the $10 bucks alone. Enjoy friends.

5 out of 5 stars Opening the vault; the beginning of a legacy!.......2007-07-05

First off, this DVD is a MUST OWN for any and all fans of the "Icon" HBK, Shawn Michaels! That being said, I find that there is absolutely nothing wrong with this DVD package.

At the time all this footage was being compiled, Shawn was in retirement following a chronic back injury that wasn't healing properly. Forcing him to retire and leave the "squared circle" on a very premature basis, this DVD WOULD have captured all the great moments of his career. Turns out not to be so. Why? Because the Heartbreak Kid isn't done yet!

That is where this DVD is different from many others. While many people are arguing and complaining that this comilation is to short and doesn't do him justice, I believe in just the opposite. I believe the WWE changed the direction of the DVD following the official full-time return of Michaels. Instead of creating an all-out tribute DVD, they are merely giving viewers the very beginnings of his career; those matches up to this point that were essential for both Shawn and the company!\

The evidence is there, being that the last match on the DVD is his come-back match against Triple H. The WWE and the DVD is showing that there is so much more to come from this great superstar, and not to worry because he'll create many more classic matches for his next DVD tribute.

That being said, this DVD is not short on material in the least. As i said, I believe they are saving up more material for when he finally does retire for good. We all know that when it comes to the wrestling world, people never really "retire" either! It has the classic, over-looked and under-rated AWA tag match with Marty from his early days, as well as the first ever Hell in a Cell Match against the Undertaker; talk about a blood bath!

Then of course, the comeback match against Triple H! I cannot tell you how much I marked out the first time HBK came back (joining the nWo) and then again when he returned to battle HHH!

This is a classic DVD that chronicles the beginning of a career that appears to have many good years left in it! Don't think it sells anything short because it doesn't!

    Long live "The Icon"

3 out of 5 stars Spits On The Legacy Of Unarguably One Of The Top 3 Wrestlers Of All Time !!!!.......2007-06-21

Doesnt Nearly Contain Enough Matches From The Early Days of Shawn Michaels 1988 Thru 1995. When He Was In The "Rockers" And Had His Illustrious Reign as Intercontinental Champion. Not Bad To Have The Material Surrounding WM 12 Match, But This DVD Relied Way Too Much On That Instead Of Having It There As A Bonus. Overall Shawn Michaels Boyhood Dream Is The Best Bet For Your Money, Which Concentrates Entirely On His Reign As World Champion... Although It Doesnt Come Near Presenting Shawn Michaels Career In The WWE It Accomplishes Its Goal Of Covering His Career When He Had The World Heavyweight Gold. However This DVD DOES NOT Do A Good Job Of Accomplishing Its Goal Of Covering Shawn Michaels Career!!

    4 out of 5 stars HBK.......2007-05-14

I found this to be full of good matches. It show how good a show man and athlete Shawn Michaels is. I was pleasantly surprised.

5 out of 5 stars For a high standard of match quality, it doesn't get much better then this........2007-02-19

I have never seen so many 5 star matches on one set. The match quality on this set is comparable to Chris Benoit's DVD or Bret Hart's DVD or Samoa Joe's TNA release. Here's what's on it.

AWA Tag Team Title Match: Midnight Rockers vs. Buddy Rose and Doug Sommors

WM X Ladder Match: Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon

WM XII Ironman Match: Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart

No Holds Barred IYH: Shawn Michaels vs. Diesel

IYH Mind Games: Shawn Michaels vs. Mankind

First Hell In A Cell Match: Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker

Comeback Match: Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H from Summerslam 02

Yeah, it's only 7 matches but you also get many extras concerning each match. Even Michaels famous speech where he claimed to have lost his smile is an easter egg. I'll leave it to you to figure out how to unlock it.

A few notes about the matches. The AWA match was one of the first bloody matches in the history of the AWA. The ladder match was Pro Wrestling Illustrated's match of the year as well as being awarded 5 Stars from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer. The ironman match was PWI Match Of The Year beating out the match with Mankind from Mind Games. The match with Diesel was one of the first hardcore matches in WWE history. The HIAC match with Taker got another 5 Star Match rating from Meltzer. Finally his comeback match against Triple H finished in the top three in PWI Match Of The Year voting.

    Get it!

    5 out of 5 stars A very good dvd.......2007-01-28

I disagree with the person under me reviewing. This is a comprehensive DVD on Shawn Michaels career when it was released. It even has a classic AWA match on it. I would agree it is incomplete in the fact that it would be nice to see a Shawn Michaels documentary like the other DVD's. That is the only thing lacking on this dvd.

There bank tellers. One goal: knock the place over. Each has their own idea. Sheila (Silverstone) wants to break into the ATM. Stuart plans to "borrow" some money for the weekend and head to Vegas. And woods (Harrelson) has a scheme involving a duck, a dog, and a safety deposit box. The ultimate inside jobs, plotted by three people with nothingto lose.

5 out of 5 stars See it Several Times.......2007-02-08

I loved this movie! The plot was pretty simple but the quirkiness made it really keep my interest. Note, for example, the shirts worn by the boy with the plane and Doleman. And what to heck is that on the boy's face? Also, watch Doleman's face during the opening credits. And watch the two "Monday" bank scenes closely. Notice any differences? Why was that scene filmed twice (other than the different character perspectives)? Oh yeah, see if anything strikes you as odd about the rubber arrow on Charles Merchant's face during his infomercial. These and other oddities that aren't tied to the plot make it clear that the director/writers/actors enjoyed making the movie which makes it fun to watch. I'd love to know where it was filmed and how accurate the bank temperature display was! It said 94 in the morning and 112 in the afternoon. Details that seem trivial are rarely in a film by accident so the quirks in this film help make it worth seeing a few times.

2 out of 5 stars It should be better.......2006-06-05

Rachel Leigh Cook looks hot. Alicia Silverstone looks hot. Neither acts well.

Woody Harrelson desecrates his otherwise hilarious comedic record that produced gems like "White Men Can't Jump" and "Kingpin".

John Cleese, oh John Cleese, how could you stoop so low? From Monty Python to this?

With two hotties and two good actors, I really expected much more. Disappointment, oh how you taunt me.

Basically this is a movie about three borderline retarded people who are trying to rob the bank in which they work. Each one has an idiotic plan that is slightly more ingenious than eating paste.

If it weren't for the lesbian scene between Cook and Silverstone, the one that involves every ingredient from the Waffle Housee smothered, covered, diced, and chopped hash browns, it would be unwatchable. Of course, I just imagined that part to make the movie slightly tolerable.

In the end each viewer will eventually feel scorched, as in herpes, and dirty for watching a movie that serves a massive turd in the career punchbowl of all actors involved.

2 out of 5 stars this comedy only goes so far and then it drops........2005-05-12

3 working bank tellers, played by Alicia Silverstone (Excess Baggage, Clueless), Paul Costanzo (Tv's Joey, Road Trip) and Woody Harrelson (Tv's Cheers, She Hate Me), plan on robbing the bank that they work at. The movie begins on the day that the cops show up at the bank and then we rewind the week back into the 3 tellers lives and we see why they want to rob the bank. So, they all do it and when they get back the boss, played by Joshua Leonard (The Blair With Project, Deuces Wild) tells them they've been robbed from the ATM by some punks and then he brings the 3 tellers in his office to give them a promotion but they all deny it and quit. John Cleese (Monty Python member, Rat Race) only had one funny moment in this movie and that's the scene where he's checking his dog for a key and he puts a big sushi knife up to the dog but other then that, Cleese is totally wasted. Rachael Leigh Cook (She's All That, AntiTrust) and Jeffrey Tambor (Hellboy, Tv's Arrested Development) also star. The cast try their best to keep the movie funny interesting but the movie is sub-par and not that interesting when it gets to the final frame. The movie is Scorched, just like the title says.

5 out of 5 stars Most Best movie EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-03-30

I saw in my little hunting lodge in VT and it is a great movie. I laughed really hard at some points.

5 out of 5 stars Not your every day ordinary comedy.......2004-09-15

If you are accustomed to commonplace punch line/situation comedy you will be amazed how casually yet successfully this movie managed to deliver its slings and arrows of outrageous comedic sense to audience.
With a spectacular cast and hilarious development of plots, each carefully crafted next-door character hoans its own idea of personal vendetta while driving towards a seemingly fiascic stage where all gets tangled up in their web of outlandish karma.
With unique arrays of pleasant soundtrack, and bits and pieces of humorous touch, this movie is classic in its own way and certainly refreshing in its comedic entertainment.
