Amazing trilogy.......2007-07-03
Blade had three movies and none disappointed me. They all had great action, a great story to it, and all had excellent effects. I highly recommend this series to fans of the action genres. Snipes might be reduced to straight to dvd movies now but this is his finest hour.
THIS IA A GREAT SET........2007-06-08
FOR SOMEONE HOW HAS FOLLOWED THESE MOVIES THIS IS A GREAT SET.
A Collection With Bite..........2007-03-20
Sorry for the pun, but the statement is true.
I had never heard of the Blade comics, so when the first movie came out I went in expecting an action-packed thriller.
But, alas, what I found was a new obsession. Immediatly after watching the first movie, which does a good job of bringing the comic characters to life (even if a bit glamorized), I must say that I did not thoroughly read the comics, but rather get a nice feel for the darkness and anti-hero aspects of the Blade character.
But, back to the movies. Here's what I think:
Blade--Great intro film; special F/X are top-notch, stylistic, and fight scenes are choreographed to precision; story fun, but a bit choppy; overall 5/5
Blade 2--Rehash of first story was a bit annoying (watch the first one to know what I mean); F/X bigger/better; fight scenes aided with special effects, but still stylistic with the choreography; overall 4/5 (mostly because vampire gang annoyed me)
Blade Trinity--Great action film all around; introduction of two characters fits well into the franchise (and they both do a good job along side Wesley); more fight scenes, done again with presicion and excellence; much more F/X (good or bad thing); DVD extras are fun too; overall 5/5
In essence, if you are looking for a good 6 hours of exciting action scenes, expertly choreographed fight sequences, and vampires, well this is the triology for you!
Blade Trilogy - The Ultimate Collection.......2007-01-10
For a Vampire killing movie. It is a fun/good adult movie. For something without Violence and a vampire movie I like I was a teenage vampire also a young persons movie.
Blade Trilogy.......2007-01-05
One of the better trilogies around. Exciting, love the sword fights etc. But one does get into them and wants to go on to the next one right away.

The Best Movies!.......2005-04-02
In Blade 1, we meet Blade for the first time. He is the Daywalker and he was born half human and half vampire. He kills vampires who drink blood from their victims. There is a sign on your neck to be sure that you are a vampire. Blade also met Whistler, his new friend. now Blade is hunting Deacon Frost. But Frost almost killed Whistler, and Blade was forced to kill whistler because Whistler was becoming a vampire.
In Blade 2, At the beginning, Jared Nomak is kidnapped by some nurses. They did not know that he was already a vampire so he bit the nurses. Back to Blade, Blade found Whistler into some kind of a tube. Later,Blade met Nyssa, A Good vampire. Nyssa led Blade into a group of loyal vampires. But lately, one has been down or as usual killed. Now there are many VAMPIRE JARED NOMAKS running around. But the real Jared Nomak Vampire has a sister and she is Nyssa! Better find out more about this movies!
There is still Blade 3, which means that more vampires are running in town. But that movie is not yet showing on film.

Eddie Murphy needed a comeback after The Adventures of Pluto Nash, but I Spy didn't provide it. As with his previous turkey, Murphy's the least of this movie's problems; his spitfire delivery begs for better plotting and dialogue, and his teaming with Owen Wilson had even more promise than Wilson's Shanghai comedies with Jackie Chan. But this unfunny hash--bearing no resemblance to the 1960s Bill Cosby-Robert Culp TV series that inspired it--undermines Murphy and Wilson at every turn, stranding them in scenes that play well in isolation but never form a coherent action-comedy. It's not that director Betty Thomas is incapable; she just seems uninterested, going through the motions while Eddie, Owen, and Famke Janssen play spy games in Budapest, chasing after a villain (Malcolm McDowell, wasted again) who's stolen a sleek, invisibility-cloaked jet bomber called the Switchblade. Explosions, shootouts, double-crosses... ignore it all, and find what pleasure you can in Eddie and Owen's aimless banter. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
You won't want to miss this one!.......2007-03-20
I agree with another reviewer that the sewer scene in Hungary is hilarious and the "Sexual Healing" scene is over the top funny! If you enjoyed movies like Old School, Anchorman, or Along came Polly then you won't want to miss this one!
Average Grade Thriller.......2007-03-08
I Spy has little in common with the 1960's TV series of the same name. However, there is just enough juice in I Spy to cause it to rise to the C grade level. True, both Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson basically phoned their performances in. However, Malcolm McDowell contributes one of his greatest performances ever and this combined with the great cinematography helps to make up for many of the deficiencies in this movie.
Bottom line, this is a decent movie that is worth a rental.
They spy!.......2007-01-24
Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson delighted audiences in late 2002 with this action-packed film based on the 1965-68 NBC adventure series starring comedian Bill Cosby and Robert Culp. This is one of the best action films since the LETHAL WEAPON series. Scott Kelly(Wilson) and athlete Alexander Scott(Murphy) are partners in crime. You can call them cops,P.I.'s,FBI agents, whatever. This is a reunion between Murphy and director Betty Thomas who is late of the NBC crime drama Hill Street Blues. Previously,Thomas directed Murphy in the remake of THE NUTTY PROFESSOR and the remake sequel. Thomas' previous films include THE BRADY BUNCH MOVIE and PRIVATE PARTS.
A great surprise!.......2005-06-18
What a good time I had watching this movie. I've watched it for the fourth time this week and it keeps getting better. Quick witted, good chemistry between Eddie Murphy & Owen Wilson, exciting chase scenes -- just a lot of fun. Don't listen to the critics on this one or you'll miss a great couple of hours.
Wilson and Murphy=laughter.......2005-04-24
This movie has all the makings of being just another cheesy flick, but just at the last second something manages to save it. That would be the relationship between Murphy and Owen Wilson.
Although they aren't as funny a pair as Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson, there is a spark in I Spy that generates humor even when these two are not fighting between themselves. Such as Owen renting the lowest cost room for the boxing God (Murphy) or when they are trying to take over the spy plane in the end.
A decent action thriller/comedy that is pulled of rather well on such used plot. I Spy manages to follow the James Bond thread without drawing on it too much to be cliche.
But enough said, I'll let you be the judge.

Tsui Hark is the definitive moviemaker of the Hong Kong New Wave, and it could be argued that The Blade (1995) is his best film to date, a visually dense and morally muscular martial arts epic that just about reinvents the genre from the ground up. Loosely based on the picture that launched the entire kung fu cycle, Chang Cheh's 1967 classic The One-Armed Swordsman, the movie goes beyond the visceral rush of conflict to question the basic assumptions of the form. The central character, Ding On (boyish Chiu Man-cheuk, who took over the Wong Fei-hung role from Jet Li in the Once Upon a Time in China series), is a skilled swordsmith who begins to wonder if craftsmanship alone is all that matters. Perhaps it is also worth considering how the finished weapon is going to be used? A theme that seems more timely every day! In a dusty, noisy, cluttered landscape reminiscent of Wong Kar-wei's Ashes of Time, Ding seeks to avenge the death of a selfless martial monk who was murdered after thwarting the rape of a young girl. In the process the hero loses a limb, struggles to learn new skills to compensate, and comes back stronger than ever--with the implication that mental dexterity trumps brute force every time. The long final showdown, which makes judicious use of slow motion to turn battling bodies into heroic sculptural forms, ranks with the best work of masters like King Hu and Akira Kurosawa--that is, with the greatest martial fight footage ever filmed. --David Chute
Customer Reviews:
what a ridiculous mess.......2007-05-15
a messy screwup with a free-fall-for-all crazy screenplay directed by an often unstable and insane director. a story without any believable historical, time frame and regional backgrounds. just threw in anything that could come up, patched and pitched into this absolutely horrible film like koreans' food, throwing everything into a pot or pan, then adding chili paste and kimgi to mess up the whole dish, then well, eat with the cover as the plate, crazily spicy, awfully hot, but always turned out with just one flavor, a messy chili mixup.
an obvious very dry place supposed in the norther west of china, and then all the settings were full of bamboo sticks that only grew in the southern humid regions. all the costumes and makeups were extremely ridiculous, you've got northwestern regional and southeast asian costumes mixed with south american amazon rain forest and african inhabitants with whiteout bodies and faces. added with a totally pointless young female narration, then the music tunes played in this crazy film was another clueless screwup. then stolen some stuff from the 'one armed swordsman', his killing technique was nothing but whirling around with a broken sword (another crazy idea stolen from the western 'the captain with a broken sword'). then with one naive and childish blade manufacturer's daughter, a clueless pretty young woman and another tomboy-like girl playing the savior of the one armed young man, all three females did nothing but crying, screaming, laughing, running around. then you got that clueless flying dragon killer with tattoos all over like van damm's thai opponent...then again, one of the blade maker's workers also mysteriously got kung fu and sword killing technique from nowhere...then you got those bandits looting and killing people for nothing, and mostly sucked of all, the fighting scenes were nothing but a mess...wow, what a crazy and clueless mess.
this director's movie is everything but at the same time, nothing. trying so hard to draw a tiger's picture but turned out to be like a poppy. what a pathetic mess.
Excellent drama ,acting and shooting.......2001-08-09
This film is not about martial-arts. You wont see Jet Li or Jackie Chan flip in the air twice before a kick ,or wonderfully choreographed fighting scenes. It is the best HK drama I've ever seen.
About feelings ,and what they can make us do ,or achive. Ofcourse ,there are fights ,the protagonist must avenge his father ,but it's more about the revenge itself ,the drive ,than about how it's done. A story of human beings in a time and place so extreme ,that they are driven to the extreme themselves. great tale ,shot with more sensativity (and brutality) than any other film I saw.
As good as it gets!.......2001-06-28
Said to be Tsui Harks answer to Wong Kar-wais Ashes of Time, The Blade is a dark and brutal film, even by the standards of Hong Kong Cinema. Based loosely on the King Hu film, The One Armed Swordsman, it's shot with a tough, stone hard realism one seldom sees in Hong Kong Cinema, and while the plot is the usual revenge story, this movie is anything but typical. On, played by Chiu Man-Cheuk (Mandarin Zhao Wen-zhou), sets out to avenge his father who died at the hands of a bandit/mercenary/assasin named Lung, whose seemingly invincible skill in martial arts is trancended only by his sadistic and degenerate ferocity (he not only killed On's father, he skinned and gutted him too-this is not a guy you want living next door to you). Before he can meet Lung, On looses his right arm in a fight with bandits, which leads him to give up his quest until he finds an old martial arts manual from which he learns a one armed sword technique that not only allows him to pursue his revenge, but is appparently also superior than any existing technique. Other sub-plots flow through the film, but all converge on the apocolyptic ending where On finally confronts Lung. The martial arts are not as sophisticated or theatrical as other films in Hong Kong Cinema, but the fights themselves have a much more realistic texture that makes them resemble an actual fight more than almost anything else I've personally seen on the screen. They also use real swords in this film instead of those rediculous floppy rubber swords one usually sees in other films; On's sifu/foster father (who was my favorite character in the film) uses a nine-ring broadsword that must weigh at least 25 lbs and which he handles as easily as if were a broomstick. And for once the blood is actually the color of blood and not tomato soup. Lung is also a massive presence on the screen, with his shaved head and tatooed body, figting with a saber in each hand while verbally taunting and mocking his opponents. If you see no other martial arts films this year, see this one.
A film above all in it's genre!.......2000-08-25
I have never seen anything like it. Beautiful camera, settings, story line, everything. The action is unmatched, and the fighting was so intense you would almost believe it was all real. This movie definately is a must see for any film lover, not just martial arts films. My all time favorite on screen hero, and im sure he'll be yours after you see this film.
Good Drama.......2000-05-03
When I bought this movie I thought that I was about to behold one of the best fighting movies ever from all the rave reviews that I have read. But instead I got a very Dramatic intellectually challenging story line with complex subtitles that sometimes resemble a good novel. But as for fights this movie didn't pack much punch until the end although this movie does contain some very inventive and well coordinated fight scenes by no means should this movie be rated along those merits but rather for being a very well filmed, superbly acted, dramatic piece of HK cinema.Buy it for the story, very enjoyable,4 stars

A good set but..........2004-12-07
I also felt cheated by not having the Blade 2 disc. I was buying it for the special features and the commentaries. But guess I'll have to plunk down another 18 bucks for the 2 disc set.
No Worth It For Film Fans.......2004-12-05
If you're looking to buy this for the movies alone and not the extras, then I recommend the 2-pack. If you're interested in the extra features, then buy the dvd's separately because Blade 2 is a "movie only" dvd and doesn't include the audio commentary or any of the other extra materials on the Platinum Version. The extra look at Blade 3 has 25 minutes of footage from a sci-fi convention where David Goyer, Jessica Biel and Ryan Reynolds talk about the film. It has three extra snippets of Blade 3 and includes the trailer. It's not bad, but I feel cheated with the non-platinum Blade 2.
Cool!! The first Blade in a Keepcase!.......2004-10-18
Even if you own the first Blade you should still get the 2 pack for the trinity preview and the plastic keepcase that the first blade comes in. The first Blade originally came in a horrible carboard case that snaps shut. At Least this way you can keep your set looking like new. I Wish I Could See the 1982 Versin Again.......2007-01-28
This version has gotten bashed really bad by a lot of people, but I have to say it is my favorite of all. Despite what some people think, the happy ending is what really makes it all worth watching - there's nothing ambiguous about it. It bugs me that somebody out there didn't think to save that version for DVD, because a lot of us out here want to see it again.
"if ain't broken,leave it the hell alone".......2004-05-31
There was absouletly no reason to change any part of the original bladerunner,i happen to like the narration, it adds that old film noir touch, its not "LUDICROUS", it adds an extra level of depth and meaning, sure with the narration gone you can hear more of the background sounds and voices, without it, you miss a lot great lines, especially what is said on the roof top by 'deckard',as roy batty is dying. And to to these who think the original ending is uplifting, maybe you should check to see if you have a brain at all!. "THE ENDING IS AMBIGUOUS" ,as is there fate?. I will always love the (1982) version the best, it was perfect then, why wreck an excellent movie because the director , did not have the guts to stand up for the movie he wanted back in 1982.Now all you can get on dvd, is this bastardized copy, i can only hope that i can find the the original dvd someday. thanks for nothing ridley scott.
