3 out of 5 stars Disagree with other reviews.......2006-03-16

Ok..There was a review here that slammed this movie because obviously, the guy expected massive special effects and major theatrics. When he makes his own movie, I most likely would slam it for kicks. This movie made him think and whoa..that was pretty difficult I guess.
I agree with another review that it's no Oscar winner but not all movies are. Some are Indie for a reason. The maker wanted to tell a story and did just that. I reccomend finding someone who has it or rent it and see for yourself. Then buy it if you like it.

3 out of 5 stars I Disagree ..........2006-03-03

I have to completely disagree with the above review!
This film may not be "oscar" material, but it definitely had a poetic structure to it.
This film is more than just another run of the mill vampire/horror flick. It delves deeper into the true nature of a creature that, in his mind, has lived for centuries.
I enjoy how this movies allows the viewer to think whether Sebastian, the main character, is truly a centuries old vampire or some deluded man who seems to be his own worst enemy.
Regardless, after watching this film I found a message which we can all relate to. Don't waste your time searching for things when the true answers lie closer than we think.
Sebastian spent more than a life time searching for something which lead him to stop "living".
This movie may not be an A + movie but it does have it's merits.
This movie is a prime example of indie filmmaking in which the creators used visual poetry as opposed to gore and FX to tell this story.

I could not give this movie a zero rating like it deserves. Vampire movies: There are the good, the bad, and the ugly. This one definitely falls into the "bad' category, the "VERY BAD!" category. The movie is so bad, it is like a college freshman film major's project that should have been simply dropped in a bucket of acid. So if you are attracted to the DVD cover of this movie, or the Product Description, that is where the good stops, and the bad begins. They took a good idea, and tried to make a stylish vampire film. I was waiting for the film to become a vehicle for the "fundamentalist apocalypse-now! people." The only problem is the film is like "MARTIN." Sebastian has no real fangs; no magic; he is not a shape-shifter; he is able to go out into the sunshine; and has no real intelligence gained by living for centuries, and over millenniums. Sebastian has no real friends, and no personality. He has acquired modern things, but needless to say, he forgot to develop anything behind his funny eyes. He has the habit of falling asleep when he should be awake watching his back. The only other people in the movie are his two friends, one is sick and dying, and the other female friend looks like a carbon copy of himself, but a female version.

The movie never answers any of the interesting questions or ideas raised in the film's beginning. Sebastian has made a home made alter, and keeps reading from a book that one presumes is the bible. He keeps talking to himself, and sometimes his other self answers. He does not really know if might be god or just the voice inside of his own head, but we never know. It seems more like a Native American god of the New World, rather than the Old World male god-like figure. In the end, the real demon is Sebastian himself, because he forgot to acquire along the way anything or related to humanity. If Dracula was around, he would sweep Sebastian under the rug with a stake though the heart, lop his head off, and full his mouth full of garlic. They use the skull to become a candle holder to show other vampires what might happen to them if they become a waste-product. That is what this movie is full of crap. It tried to be an artistic modern vampire movie, but fails on all counts.

I kept waiting for Lilith or Judas to pop in and say, "Sebastian! You are a total waste product of a human form, and make an even less of a vampire." ZAP! "You are toast! But the movie did not even have the guts to do that. Instead, they did the old "in-your-mind" cop-out. "There can be only one" psycho killer on the block which is Sebastian's split personality. When there are no friends left to kill, it is time to kill yourself. Perhaps in the end, he is just an immortal serial killer who believes in his mind that he was a vampire. I wish I could get this one out of my mind, and off of my credit card statement.

If Sebastian was a modern vampire, then he would be cool, but he is still struggling to be a crap-head. What is a modern vampire movie without any skin! The male vampire can only have sex after he feeds. There is no sex, and I don't think Sebastian has ever had sex because he is not a real vampire. He is a psycho killer who marks his future victims with that of the blood of the vampire. The total lack of skin, and beautiful women still makes me thing this movie was made by the "fundamentalist apocalypse-now! people."

If Sebastian was one of those in the crowd at the crucifixion who yelled out, "Crucify Him!" Then he may have been cursed to be an immortal killer for all time. Then the movie becomes just a vehicle for Anti-Semitism. If you read the letters and writings of Jack the Ripper, he in his mind was performing the ritualistic murder of the Jews to be on the same level as the Freemasons divine architect of the universe. Jack the Ripper claimed that he was opening the path for the 20th century to happen. Everything about Christianity is pure Anti-Semitism, it offends my religious beliefs. Some people have claimed that vampirism is a comment upon Anti-Semitism since they are creatures of the darkness because they are not believers. People who are not believers are undead, and fear the symbols of Christianity. Sebastian does not fear these symbols because he is just a multiple personality psycho killer whose approach to murder looks like that of a vampire.

You will obtain everlasting life though the ritual shedding of the blood. In place of fangs Sebastian has a Fu Manchu metal fingertip that he puts on which is used to cut the wrist of his victims to drink their blood. Sebastian no matter how you look at it, he is his own Angel of Death. With friends like him, who needs to run across any other psycho killers in the woods.
