Description

It's country folk versus city slickers when homicidal Texas lawn trimmers Billy Buck and Jacob head to the wilds of the Long Island suburbs to ply their trade. But these resourceful good ol' boys don't just use lawnmowers for grass; they find that people make for good mowin', too! One of the GORIEST movies ever.......2006-06-17

I've never seen anything like it. The CHEEZIEST gore ever! And lots of it! It was way over the top. I couldn't believe someone would actually use cloth painted purple and soaked in fake blood as skin to peel off a skull...hell, I couldn't believe anyone would film a scene where a guy peels off skin until a skull is bone-dry to begin with...this happens on more than one occassion too! The gore scenes, besides being so stupid, were also pretty long. You got a guy ripping a dead body's skin like it was wet tissue and there's a ridicuous amount of red gooey stuff splattering everywhere for a pretty long time. We see the guy squishing all this gore between his fingers as time passes. you'll find yourself giggling at how gratuitous it all is. It's like the stretched out primitive gore scenes in Wizard of Gore but much worse in f/x quality. As for the story, it's about two psychotic gardeners that realize they hate society and go around killing people in hilarious fashions. Somehow there's social commentary and profound statements about the commercial culture of yuppies (this is best illustrated in the scene where one of the gardeners hacks at a trendy magazine with an axe). The messages aren't preachy though and are delivered in a subtle campy fashion, the way it should be. Lots of chopped limbs, ripped entrails, TONS of crazy cheap looking gore, and cynical yet comical dialogue is what you get in this movie.

What happens when you mix Super-8 film, social satire, Texan gardeners, amateur actors and chunks upon chunks of raw meat? You get the most disgusting movie I've ever seen! Thank goodness this film has it's sense of humor in the right place, or else "They Don't Cut The Grass Anymore" would be unwatchable.

I love blood and guts in horror movies, but this is the most extreme display of bodily mutilation I've yet encountered. Super-8 maestro Nathan Schiff is responsible for this satiric take on the corruption of affluence. But rather than make any kind of bold statement, Schiff appears more interested in displaying endless close-ups of faces and bodies torn into mush. Perhaps there is some twisted point amid all the carnage. There are occasional lines of dialogue hinting that a more complex issue is simmering beneath the grue, but we never really get a chance to see this. (Fans of Schiff movies however, may gain better insights by carefully following the extras on this one.)

Despite the drawbacks of incredibly uneven performances, which range from the vigorous (the killers) to school-play level (the victims) and what surely must be the cheapest movie to ever see a wide commercial release, "They Don't Cut The Grass Anymore" works on a level of utter psychosis that leaves one in dizzied bewilderment. Extra features include an interview with Schiff, the films director, and some of the stars. It also has a running commentary by Schiff, who appears to know exactly what he's talking about, and claims the film cost under a thousand dollars! The disc also includes short subjects he made as a kid. This movie is cheap, gross, but by God it had me laughing! An absolute party down "must have" for when a keg is tapped. Should possibly carry a Surgeon General warning on the case though!
