5 out of 5 stars Help with this movie........2007-04-06

Please, could anyone be so kind as to tell me if there is a scene in this movie where a person being interviewed on TV says something like "they are not children, they are HIROSHIS" or something like that? Or another scene where some people open a door just to find some kind of zombie like creatures eating cadavers? I've been looking for that movie for about 10 years and I'm not sure if this is it... Anything you could tell me about it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

5 out of 5 stars Good, and there's two things people don't get.......2007-01-02

This movie tried a different approach to the zombie theme, featuring a very sdmall amount of zombies

First off: The poodle zombie/monster on the front of the box, it barely appears in the movie. So don't buy the movie wanting to see it, you will be dissappointed.

But really there's one other thing I've noticed when people talk about this movie in general don't seem to realise:

One thing almost everyone who's seen this movie says is stupid are the two very large, extremely powerful zombies that appear towards the end of the movie. However, this is only a very small part of the movie, towards the end.

Anyway, I'm probably biased in favour of the movie, for nostalgic reasons.

1 out of 5 stars A true disappointment.......2006-06-06

OK, I admit it. I love really awful horror films. I own all the Killer Tomatoes films. I love cheesy movies.

This didn't make the cut.

It is obvious that they spent their entire special effects budget on the first three bad guys who manifest in this film. By the time the two later characters become zombies, the budget is so depleted they throw a man in a poodle suit with werewolf hands. The production values are poor, the plot is predictable, and it's not even bad enough to be funny. All in all, the movie was a real disappointment, which is particularly bad, since I rented it HOPING it would be bad (but in an ironic, funny way).

Skip this film, especially if you have any desire to respect Phyllis Diller, who plays Ms. Poopinplatz; an absolute travesty.

2 out of 5 stars Zombos Closet of Horror Review.......2006-05-19

The Boneyard is an odd, uneven mix from director and writer, James Cummins. There are elements to the script, however, that make it an interesting and almost creepy story, but poor pacing, monotonous dialog scenes, and somewhat laughable special effects get in the way.

The original idea, to take a world-weary, burned-out and overweight psychic investigator, toss in a background story about child demons that spend most of their time devouring anything that moves, and mix them together in an understaffed, and soon to be closed coroner's building late one night, would seem to be a solid one, and one ripe with horrific possibilities suitable for any gore-hound or horror-head. But...by the time we get to the demonized and giganticized poodle terrorizing everyone toward the end, well, you can see where best intentions may have gone astray.

The film opens with a drawn-out scene wherein our two stalwart detectives, well-played by Ed Nelson and James Eusterman, enter the psychic's house (Alley, played with little energy by Deborah Rose) looking for her help on a baffling case involving a mortician and what appear to be three dead children. After trying to convince her to help them, they leave, and later that night, she has a disturbing psychic vision that gets her back into the thick of it.

Back in the police station, Alley and the detectives listen to the interrogation of the mortician, and hear how the mortician's family has, for three centuries, kept the three child-sized ghouls from devouring living people by feeding them body parts garnered from the funeral home's attendees.

The coroner's building is where the story kicks into gear with veteran performers Phyllis Diller and Norman Fell, but not before we are subjected to a confusing flashback experienced by Alley, and an interminable dialog sequence between the two detectives where nothing happens. Show me, don't tell me, and if you must tell me, at least make it interesting. Luckily, the script is included as an extra on the DVD, and reading the flashback scene explained how the family tried to resurrect their children three hundred years ago with disastrous results. But how the dialog sequence was kept in still eludes me. It reads just as boringly as it was to watch, and provided nothing to further the story along. Alley snaps back from the flashback into a a vision of the three little ghouls awakening downstairs in the morgue, putting the detectives and morgue attendants in imminent danger. Due to poor direction, little tension is generated as Alley hurriedly makes her way downstairs to warn them.

The scene she comes upon, with dead bodies strewn everywhere, gobs of blood across the floor, and the little hellions eating away (especially one gustily attacking an open rib-cage) is suddenly gory, horrific and exciting. A great scene that stands out in an otherwise so-so endeavor. Its very gruesomeness is a sudden and unexpected jolt that brings us into the story. Mayhem ensues as the survivors try to escape the onslaught.

In the midst of all the carnage, once again the story stops to allow a dialog exchange between two characters that does nothing to move the story along. Instead, we hear whys and wherefores, and the action grinds to a halt as we get unneeded background information. Alley and Floosoms finally square off, and the ending contains no sequelization-antics to spoil it.

A readme folder on the DVD is meant for use on a PC. It contains the script, publicity kit and photos, and preliminary artwork for the monsters (two of which were used above) in PDF format. Scripts are always welcome, as they can show the original vision as written compared to the edited and finished film.

The film is still worth seeing, though you may wish to fast-forward a bit here and there.

4 out of 5 stars mutated zombie poodle? The Boneyard -A cult classic .......2005-09-11

The boneyard is much better than what you might expect, sure its a lowbudget movie. But this movie is one of the best "b-movies" I've seen since it really tries to be different and scary and does a good job in whats it's trying to achieve.

The story is an integral part of the movie it's not an excuse for the special effects as in many other movies. All of the actors do a fine job and there are some very creepy scenes in the movie. The middle of the movie is where the suspense and tension is best, at the end of the movie the film enters comedy territory (zombie poodle). Im not giving anything away by mentioning the zombie poodle since it featured on the dvd menu.
The best thing about this movie are the "mummified chinese zombie kids" they look very creepy and behave in a disturbing manner. A lot of asian horror movies with creepy kids are being remade these days how come noone is doing a remake of this little american horror cult classic? Skip the poodle and concentrate on the 3 kids and you could have one hell of a movie if it was done with a larger budget and todays technology.

Best thing about these zombie kids are that they are played by real kids and thats probably what makes it so disturbing... it doesnt look like a dwarf trying to act like a kid. Phyllis Diller is also one of the movies high points as the foul mouthed and annoying miss Poopinplatz.

It has a lot of extras and you do get a lot of value for your money. Seems like this was a movie and a DVD made with love.
The transfer of the main movie is unfortunately too bright and sort of washed out and you can see a wavy pattern rolling over the screen. If you adjust your tv (or projector) you can make the video look better and less annoying.

Regardless of the video quality I still recommend this release if youre a fan of horror movies or if you like the film but havent purchased it on dvd.

4 out of 5 stars Three Good Moives and one Weak One.......2006-01-09

The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave- interesting little film about a man obsessed with red headed women who remind him of his ex. Watchable not bad at all.
Psychomania- The weakest on the set. About a motorcycle gang who makes a pact with the devil in order to gain immortality.
Blood Tide-This is a pretty good film reminds me of a movie called Dagon (spelling) a HP Lovecraft story and a strange and creepy movie in its own right. Anyway Blood Tide has three pretty well known stars: James Earl Jones, Deborah Shelton from Ciruitry Man II, and Legendary Jose Ferrer. Jones is great and so is Sheldon and Ferrer. Filmed in the Greek Islands this movie takes place on a small Greek Island where a Young man and his wife go there to find the man's sister Deborah Sheldon an artist who dissapeared. He finds her there with James Earl Jones and his Barbie Doll airhead girlfriend. But Sheldon is acting strange and the natives of the island have even more odd behavior. Jose Ferrer is the Mayor of the Island. Good film.
Horror Express aka The Enigma-Wow this is a good film. It has to ledgends Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. The movie takes place on a train in the late 1800s or early 0900s with a mysterious creature that is killing peole in a very interesting way.

After buying The Johnsand House, he learned the location was that of an uncanny double murder/suicide, stemming from a sickening story of perversion and incest. He also found the former residents were not as dead as the local yokels believed, but were very interested in seeing him "cross over" to join their spectral orgies. It started by hearing giggles, whispers and dreams . Then the ghosts started to materialize, indicating there would be no chance of escape. Enter if you dare, into the world where spirits act together to form the sinister monster inside the Johnsand Estate...the monster within........ "partental discretion is advised".

2 out of 5 stars THE BONE YARD starring Phyllis Diller.......2002-03-30

The only reason I want this movie is because it was filmed here in our little town and my son was one of the "extras" in it. It has been very difficult to find. As for the movie - it's funny in spots and grotesque in spots. It's certainly not the worst movie I have ever seen nor was it the best. It's not something that I would ordinarily buy.

2 out of 5 stars It's kinda boring, but kinda funny too!.......2001-05-09

I give it 2 stars because it is really boring. It doesn't get going until way into the movie, then it isn't even that much fun. Phillys Diller, her dog, and the scary little creep kids are the stars here, and they get about 10 minuntes total of the film. The other characters aren't interesting or funny in the least bit, and aren't even tolerable, honestly. They're on the screen waaay too long. It took me two sittings to get through this one. When it's funny, it's weak, but if you love B-films, although I do, you might want to try it out. It seems to be more sought after now that it's no longer made.

3 out of 5 stars This will definately keep any b-movie fan pleased.......2001-02-14

This movie has almost everything to keep a cheesy movie fan pleased. It has zombies, phyllis diller, a psychic, and a big zombie poodle. Yes, a zombie poodle. The zombie poodle didn't get as much screen time as it should've but its worth the price for that alone. The original box had a picture of the poodle on it with the quote "keep repeating to yourself, it's only a poodle" and thats why I originally watched this. The only reason it didn't get a higher review was because the movie drags until the last half.

    3 out of 5 stars Great Late-Nite Pizza flick!.......2000-02-06

This movie has it all! Spooky ghouls, Occult practices, blood splatter, and Phyllis Diller as the diabolical Poopinplatz! This is a great flick to kick back and watch with friends and just have fun. I loved the cheese factor and the surprisingly interesting concept. I think everyone should see this at least once; heck.. I even bought it so I could show my friends the wierdest "horror" movie ever made! I have to admit.. there are several points that actually made me jump in surprise!

    3 out of 5 stars Pure Cheese...........1999-06-12

Ok, yes, it is bad. BAD. But it's soooo cheesy that it's funny. if you sre looking for something to scare you, this will only work if you're a film major. Then you will be scared that this movie was made. But, it's a comedy (in my eyes). Just remember that when the killer poodle appears!
