The film opens on a peaceful summer afternoon at the Masaki home in Okayama--where it's never peaceful for very long. A mysterious girl appears and begins calling Tenchi "Daddy." Predictably, she causes uproar among the women of the Masaki household. Ryoko takes an immediate dislike to her; Sasami quickly befriends her.
Mayuka was created by the demon Yuzuha, the embodiment of the Tree of Darkness. She fell in love with Yosho, Tenchi's grandfather, when he was a child on Jurai, but was driven away by his guards. After centuries of nursing her hatred, she plans to strike at Yosho through Tenchi. Ryoko and Tenchi battle Yuzuha in a weird netherworld filled with vicious but saccharine-looking toys. They finally defeat her with the help of Ayeka, who enables Tenchi to use his Jurai powers: he cleaves the demon in two with the Lighthawk sword. The second Tenchi feature is the oddest of the three, with the strongest conflicts among characters: Tenchi even loses his temper and slaps Ryoko. It's less playful than the other entries in the series, but still entertaining.
The one-hour feature comes with a Tenchi encyclopedia--different from the one included with the Tenchi Muyô! DVDs--that offers useful information about the characters, although its links are a bit temperamental.
Unrated; recommended for ages 12 and older for brief nudity and cartoon violence. --Charles Solomon

The Best Tenchi Movie I seen, well the only one but still............2006-03-29
I love this movie so much that i watched it a couple of times this past week. I felt sorry for Mayuka when that demon Yuzuha had control over a sweet girl like her. I recommend this movie to anyone exacctly or over 13 year of age.
it'll make you laugh.......2006-03-10
in this film tenchi finds out that he's a father and the news has some interesting results on the rest of the masaki household, but it is mainly ryoko who is more annoyed with tenchi's daughter mayuka. this film has some interesting moments and is a film definetly for fans of the tenchi series
Good except.......2005-09-17
Another Tenchi movie, it is wonderful. Thea animation is good and so are the voices. Well, at the same time, it is another one not based on the OVA version, (I wonder why they haven't thought of making one based on the OVA series? Why)? and the other movies act like this never happened! Buy yet it still continues to bring the feel of the TV series, and the comedy as well, and this is also gives some background to Yosho's childhood, and it would make think, he seems to be like Tenchi, before he was born and when he was young that is! Anyway, this is a wonderful work, gotta love that Mayuka, and the way she refers to her daddy.
12 and older: brief nudity and cartoon violence
A Hilarious Truth Of Life.......2005-03-27
I really did enjoy this one! Out of the three Tenchi Movies, its my second favorite. I would DEFINATELY NOT recomend this movie for children!!! It is somewhat comfuseing and has brief shots of nudity in it. Though I though the way Meyuka acted towards Tenshi was hillarious (it reminded me of the way I act to my dad, very slightly, but Meyuke seems less mature...)! It is a very sweet movie and I would recommend it for when you have a gathering of friends.
Awesome. It's been 3 years and I still love it..........2005-01-10
I watched this with my big sister about three years ago. I loved it then and still love it now. It was definitely my favorite of all the Tenchi movies.
If you haven't already read the summary... A young girl named Mayuka appears insisting on calling Tenchi, "Daddy". She appears to have no memory of anything except her daddy for some reason.
As Washu tries to decode the girls genetics, Ryoko and Ayeka, instead of directing their jealousy towards each other, they aim it towards Mayuka (physically most of the jealousy comes from Ryoko).
I would recommend this DVD for Ryoko and Tenchi fans, since the other couplings don't appear often, if at all.
Warning! There is some nudity, but very brief.
Lastly, I will conclude with saying that this is definite must-see for Tenchi fans. Tenchi must fight to save the ones he cares for as the ultimate battle between Light and Darkness occurs.

Disappointing, but still decent.......2004-11-20
I feel like I should give this more stars, because I sincerely liked this movie, but my critical side says, "NO."
This is the only DVD of the movie you can get, and despite the rating of Category III, it has VERY obviously been censored at several points. Two examples that readily come to mind are when she's stabbing her brother and when her father covers her with icing.
They don't even try to hide the fact that it's censored, it's just, "First stab, cut to her looking up, blood-spattered, and moving on to the next kill."
I think that's what bothered me the most, the fact that the film was built up to the final murder scene, and they toned down the shock factor.
Also, the film grain and coloring changes every now and then, obviously taken from seperate reels. More of an annoyance than anything, really.
Otherwise, the movie is great. Some of the characters may seem a bit extreme, but have you SEEN some mothers yell at their daughters?!? The parts where she calls her daughter a "demon" for no real reason is what hit me the most, as I know more than one asian girl whose mother has called her that.
The subtitles are HORRIBLY translated, so be warned about that. ("Fong, how's up?")
It's actually a dark comedy more than anything else for the majority of the movie, when you're following around the immensely perverted yet dutiful investigator of the case and his loyal assistant.
The movie begins as a tragedy when the confession begins, and even then it cuts back to the investigator a couple of times for a quick laugh. Wholly inappropriate after a rape scene, if you ask me.
In general, worth a watch if you're a fan of revenge movies or asian cinema. No others need apply.
Interesting film.......2004-11-05
But that's about all you can say. Yes, it makes its point 3000 times over, that's easy to see, but it's also sloppy. It can't decide if it wants to be softcore porn or slasher film, and in the end fails on both counts. Most characters are too caricateurish to be taken even half-seriously. The whole thing just doesn't hold up as a solid story. The poorly-translated subtitles provide some unintentional laughs.
Eeewwww...but wait, there's more..........2003-04-17
This incredibly shocking Category III film (Asian Culture's equivilant of NC-17) is one of the most disturbing and distressing films I have ever seen, but there's more here than just exploitation and splatter for their own sake. It's also one of the most virile and potent indictments of the permissiveness of Asian culture, and of the collapse of the traditional family structure. In that way, it has far more in common with the more "elevated" examples of the genre to which it belongs...namely, several of the films by avant garde director Takashi Miike. Miike's films often revolve around the disintegration of the Asian Family, and "Daughter of Darkness"...knowingly or not...accomplishes much the same purpose. Mindless splatter film or social commentary? Who knows. Either way, you'll feel the pain, and you'll walk away from this film feeling a bit "dirty", and more than a little bit shaken. After all, that's the point of horror, right?
Recommended, but definitely not for the weak of stomach or the feeble of mind.
This is filmmaking with a bite...or a stab...or a slash...

Well, I Liked It.......2007-03-25
It's not a quick, slick or even well-made horror movie. But it's well-cast, well-scored and well worth a small price if it should ever come out on dvd. This is a vampire movie devoid of all the pretentiousness and hit-me-over-the-head-with-your-vampire-sex-appeal monsters and is instead a Gothic story about a female stranger in a strange land who discovers that her Romanian roots includes vampires. And while someone in the makeup department had a little too much fun with the white foundation, the way the vamps get their fix (not through elongated fangs) makes them memorable. Other than the fact that the film has incredible atmosphere, I'm uncertain as to why "Daughter of Darkness" has such an alluring, low budget charm, but it does. Mia Sara does a good job playing the troubled American school teacher in search of her Romanian father, well-played by Anthony Perkins. Once you hear the opening music, you'll be hard-pressed to get it out of your head.
Nothing to grave about..........2002-07-19
This is one of those made-4-TV movies that often show a lack of character...'Daughter of Darkness' is no exception. Anthony 'Norman Bates' Perkins makes the best of his role as the father/head vampire. The film starts well, but it becomes lethargic and a little silly. These vampires have no fangs, instead these weird spiky things emerge from their tongues (ala the armpit mutant thing from 'Rabid'.
Not a particularly memeorable film, which is a shame considering it comes from 'Re-Animator' director Stuart Gordon.
Daughter of Darkness: How does it rate?.......2000-03-18
Daughter of Darkness is a made for television vampire movie that tells the story of a young American woman named Cathy (Catherine) Thatcher who travels to Romania in search of the father she never knew after her mother dies. Upon Cathy's arrival in Romania she begins to investigate her father's life, trying to find out as much as she can about him. Along the way she meets and befriends Jack Devlin, a semi-important functionary working for the US embassy, and an older man named Max, a taxicab driver. Both men try to help Cathy in her search for info about her father. Eventually, Cathy meets her father, and falls into the clutches of a secret community of vampires, who have some definite ideas about the role she should play in their society as the "Daughter of Darkness."
I like this movie because Mia Sara plays the part of Cathy Thatcher convincingly, the character Gregori is attractive and charming, and its interesting to see how the members of the vampire coven relate to one another. Worth checking out.
