"You can't kill the boogeyman," explains John Carpenter in Halloween, and to prove it he brings Michael Myers back in this handsome but grisly sequel. Jamie Lee Curtis returns as Laurie Strode but spends most of her time cowering in a hospital gown, and Donald Pleasence runs around like a maniac as the panicky doctor desperate to hunt down Myers before he kills again. Carpenter writes and produces with partner Debra Hill, and together they replace the mystery and uncertainty of the original with an exponentially bigger body count and some strange tales about the Druids and pagan ceremonies, and the now-familiar family ties between Michael and Laurie. First-time director Rick Rosenthal (Bad Boys) paces the film at a brisk jog and directs it with a clean, crisp style, taking the murders out of the dark to display them in all their nasty detail. --Sean Axmaker

Halloween is as pure and undiluted as its title. In the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois, a teenage baby sitter tries to survive a Halloween night of relentless terror, during which a knife-wielding maniac goes after the town's hormonally charged youths. Director John Carpenter takes this simple situation and orchestrates a superbly mounted symphony of horrors. It's a movie much scarier for its dark spaces and ominous camera movements than for its explicit bloodletting (which is actually minimal). Composed by Carpenter himself, the movie's freaky music sets the tone; and his script (cowritten with Debra Hill) is laced with references to other horror pictures, especially Psycho. The baby sitter is played by Jamie Lee Curtis, the real-life daughter of Psycho victim Janet Leigh; and the obsessed policeman played by Donald Pleasence is named Sam Loomis, after John Gavin's character in Psycho. In the end, though, Halloween stands on its own as an uncannily frightening experience--it's one of those movies that had audiences literally jumping out of their seats and shouting at the screen. ("No! Don't drop that knife!") Produced on a low budget, the picture turned a monster profit, and spawned many sequels, none of which approached the 1978 original. Curtis returned for two more installments: 1981's dismal Halloween II, which picked up the story the day after the unfortunate events, and 1998's occasionally gripping Halloween H20, which proved the former baby sitter was still haunted after 20 years. --Robert Horton

Halloween.......2007-07-03
John Carpenter's first and best entry in a long series, this movie gives the slasher pic a good name (that is, until you sit through all those pale re-treads). This lean feature works because it's both original and daringly basic: Laurie is a young teenage girl up against a monster, with only her wits and her two feet to protect her from the wrong end of a large butcher knife. Will Laurie and her young charges make it to Thanksgiving? You'll remain on the edge of your seat finding out.
THE NIGHT HE CAME HOME........2007-06-23
I just picked up this movie the other day and i have been a huge fan of the halloween series all my life and just never had the original. I never knew how much I lovede it until yesturday. This movie is awsome and John Carpenter and Debra Hill are genuises. Half the movie is shot in mid day and is still as scary as if was shot in night. This is Jamie lee curtis best film and does a great job in it. I also love Michael is this one the way he walks and such. Anyway pick up this movie it's awsome.
Halloween Movies.......2007-06-20
Oh the good old days of the element of surprise and fear waiting for Michael Meyers to jump out and whack you ! I became a fan in 1978 and still get creeped out when I see Michael.
He Came Home.......2007-06-07
When John Carpenter gave form to "The Shape", aka Michael Myers, he crafted a chilling story of suspense around this murderer. Before the stupid "sister storyline", the attempt at turning Myers into some supernatural bogeyman, or the reboot which only tarnished the original further (Sorry, but Jamie Lee has definitely lost what acting skills she once had), there was the tale of a child who simply was...evil. He came home on Halloween night to relive the horror of his first murder. He was not a man. He was, pure and simply, evil. Now why did we need to know more than that?
Carpenter's Halloween.......2007-05-22
The oldest sister of all psycho-thrillers: a modern revision of the boogeyman's myth shot in 1978 by John Carpenter, probably the only horror movies artisan still in action. Although many of the rudiments of psycho movies can be already find in the first italian giallos and, of course, in Hitchcock's "Psycho", its very calculated prologue contains as if it was a manual all the leit-motives of the genre: the use of the subjective camera and the steadycam for supporting the suspense scenes; atmospherical travellings; obssessive and disturbing sound effects and cold-blood murders. Proving once more that to suggest is more effective than to resort to explicit shots, and looking for a pure horror show without gratuitous violence Carpenter reinvents wisely through the tradition in this very smart and stylised horror classic: for example, the suggestion that colour white can hold a devilish connotation is already in Edgar Poe's " The narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket". Donald Pleasance plays the psychiatrist Dr. Loomis, a sort of modern Van Helsing and the man who better knows the evil nature of his patient Michael Myers, recently escaped from the asylum Dr.Loomis rules.

This 1949 Disney feature has never been available on video in its original form until now. The 68-minute film contains two shorts: The Wind in the Willows and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The former is a lively version of Kenneth Grahame's book of animal adventures, including Mr. Toad, a rambunctious sort with a passion for motorcars. Basil Rathbone narrates the story. Sleepy Hollow is the Washington Irving story of a stuffy schoolmaster and his ability to win the love of the fair Katrina from the brutish Brom Van Brunt. Many fans will see a resemblance to Disney's masterpiece created some 40 years later, Beauty and the Beast, in style and story. The end is still scary enough to send youngsters under the table. Bing Crosby supplies the narration, character voices, and songs. The opening number in a library including two stories has been included in this good-looking restoration. The shorts were made in Disney's prime, a year before Cinderella, and the look is wondrous. The exaggeration of Ichabod's skinny frame and his slumping horse is a glorious example. --Doug Thomas
Description
In the great tradition of SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS and CINDERELLA, Disney's 11th animated masterpiece, THE ADVENTURES OF ICHABOD AND MR. TOAD, introduced two literary classics to the screen. Through award-winning Disney-animated wizardry, these unforgettable children's stories come together as one fabulous adventure. THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS follows the wild ride of J. Thaddeus Toad, squire of Toad Hall. Smitten with motorcars, the wealthy and reckless sportsman soon drives his close friends Mole, Rat, and Angus MacBadger into a worried frenzy! Then meet Ichabod Crane, the spindly schoolteacher who dreams of sweeping the lovely Katrina off her feet -- until Brom Bones, the town bully, gets involved. Their comic rivalry introduces Ichabod to THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW, the fabled Headless Horseman, and a hair-raising, heart-thumping climax. Narrated by legendary stars Basil Rathbone and Bing Crosby, THE ADVENTURES OF ICHABOD AND MR. TOAD is brimming with high-spirited adventure, brilliant animation, and captivating music -- now available for the first time in keeping with Walt's original theatrical vision.

Excellent Disney movie!.......2007-05-24
This DVD has two of my most favorite Disney classics! My Disney collection is complete!
Well Done Disney.......2007-05-13
It's great that Disney are re-releasing their product for todays generation of young children.
I hope they get as much pleasure watching these timeless animated features as I did when I was their age.
i wonder if bing & basil woulda been a good team?.......2007-03-30
financial stress (not to mention ww2) caused the disney studio to give up feature-length animation for most of the 1940s; instead, we frequently got programmers like this double bill based on tales by washington irving ("the legend of sleepy hollow") and kenneth grahame ("wind in the willows"): masterpieces of fiction but only adequate transfers to screen. voiced with some charm by bing crosby and basil rathbone respectively, they are entertaining and inoffensive, tho hardly major works of the disney canon.
good dvd.......2007-03-25
we only watch the headless horseman story and the kids (boys and girls ages 3-9 all like it
One hilarious short and a great spooky one.......2007-03-16
It's strange to see 2 shorts so different and opposing yet fit so well. You know something still resonates with you where you can almost actually nail the timing of it from the dialogue to the songs and specific scenes. Watching both brought back quite a bit of memories and both were still entertaining in their own rights without that kind of aged quality. They were fun and scary at age 6 and they're fun now as well. The only thing I wish was different was the transfer. It's almost like Disney didn't even bother to clean this up like they just slapped on the negative and left it. You get colored dots, specks of dusts and scratches and the image as that flickering quality you might've seen on VHS.
The Wind in the Willows, based on the book by Kenneth Grahame and narrated by Basil Rathbone, follows Mr. Toad, an incredibly impulsive character prone to overspending and just as much in fees who gets into so-called "manias". He spots a motorcar one day and is obsessed to the point where he's framed and thrown in jail. With help from his friends MacBadger, Moley and Rat, he has to get his deed back and prove his innocence. The short is funny and even a bit touching in a couple of places.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, based on the story by Washington Irving and narrated by Bing Crosby, has Ichabod coming to the town of Sleepy Hollow and becomes a school teacher. He falls instantly smitten with Katrina and tries to gain her favor from the brutish, pre-Gaston resident Brom Bones. Brom, to get even with him, tells him the story of the Headless Horseman, a black rider who rides the woods one night a year in search of a head. Even with the controversy they get from parents, Disney can do some pretty heavy scenes, as evidenced by Bambi's mother, the Black Cauldron or the meteor hit from the recent Dinosaur. Add to that is Ichabod's travel through the woods which is an excellent study in sound and imagery to creep you out. Even in older years, it still is an effective scene and most likely the highlight of the whole disc.
This seriously needs a remaster, not simply because of the transfer but also since you get the feeling both stories deserve a better look.

Customer Reviews:
"You don't know what death is!".......2007-06-26
I Think this film is a fantastic sequel. Picking up exactly where the first left off was a great idea, although obvious. To me Jamie lee's performance of an emotionally and physically drained Lauire was the perfect touch. This is a time where Jamie Lee Curtis still needed what a Halloween film could do, unlike H20 where the franchise needed her.Donald Pleasence is even better the second time around taking little guff from anyone.
MORE OF THE NIGHT HE CAME HOME!!!!.......2007-06-18
Halloween 2 takes place right after the original and michael's sister laurie strode is taken to the hospital. Michael is again on the loose and killing anyone who gets in the way of killing his sister.
I think halloween 2 is one of the best in the series. It follows right up with the original and has a very shcoking twist. However alot of people think john carpenter directed this movie but he did not. He was the producer along with debra hill. I think if john would have direted it also it would have been a better film. I feel times that it gets very boring and lightens on the suspense. Another thing is the charachters. This and resurection are the only movie that dont have good charachters. it is erelevent that those to movies are directed by the same guy. But overall halloween 2 is a great addition to the series and i recommened picking it up.
The Halloween series went from brilliant to average/mediocre in just one movie.......2007-04-18
Spoiler Alert!!!
What's revealed in Halloween 2 (that Michael's been going after his sister all along) is perhaps a creative spin that no one saw coming. But the problem with this is that Michael is a far less scary figure because he's not a psycho (well at least not as big a psycho) as we orginally thought because he's not randomly killing people. I liked the original because Jamie Lee Cutis is someone you can relate to because she could represent anyone of us. But this movie turns her from "anyone of us" to just his sister. It unknowingly hints that as long as you are not Michael's sister or are near his sister, you are safe. I don't want to completely bash this film because there is some action and it is in some respects a guilty pleasure. Maybe worth a rent but try not to take it too seriously.
The original was, more or less, a perfect atmospheric film with a flawless ending (how most horror films should end) and is the only one truly worth owning.
More of the night HE came home.......2007-03-22
Halloween 2 continues the Halloween saga. Michael Myers is still on the loose in Haddonfield on that same Halloween night. Laurie Strode is left cowering in the hospital, and Dr. Loomis is trying his best to hunt down Michael Myers, and kill him forever. But Michael learns that Laurie is in the hospital and follows her there, killing everyone who gets in his way.
Halloween 2 is one of the best horror sequals of all time. It takes place on the same night as Halloween 1, and is just as scary. This exciting and fun to watch sequal will scare everyone. Halloween 2: The nightmare isn't over.
GOOD SEQUEL TO THE ORIGINAL.......2007-03-21
The first Halloween is a classic. "Halloween II" starts off right where the other film stops. The DVD transfer is good, but a special edition would be appreciated by fans of the series.

Number 8 in the Halloween line maintains connections to John Carpenter's original. Resurrection picks up the thread of Halloween: H2O, with poor Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) now in a psychiatric hospital and determined to shut down homicidal Michael Myers once and for all. After this prologue, the story shifts to the old Myers house, where a TV reality show has enticed six teenagers to spend a single night in the spooky home. Needless to say, things are spoiled when Michael barges in: "I so did not sign up for this," sighs the young heroine, when the bloodletting begins. The mayhem is being broadcast live on the Internet, which makes the film a bit like Rear Window with Instant Messaging. The interesting premise is routinely handled, but that's enough to make this one of the better sequels in the series. Maybe they finally finished off Michael in this one, wink wink. --Robert Horton
Description
Original HALLOWEEN star Jamie Lee Curtis (HALLOWEEN: H2O, TRUE LIES) is back and joined by Busta Rhymes (SHAFT) and Tyra Banks (COYOTE UGLY) in the terrifying HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION -- the latest in this electrifying horror film series! The reality programmers at DangerTainment (Rhymes, Banks) have selected Rudy (Sean Patrick Thomas -- SAVE THE LAST DANCE), Bill (Thomas Ian Nicholas -- AMERICAN PIE 1&2), and a group of thrill-seeking teenagers to spend one fun-filled night in the childhood home of serial killer Michael Myers. But the planned live broadcast turns deadly when their evening of excitement becomes a night of horror as Michael himself decides to crash the party!

THE ONLY BAD HALLOWEEN!.......2007-06-18
This movie sucks. Stupid Story, Stupid actors and is the worst film of the series. If you are a Mainline movie goer this film is for you but if you are a diehard fan of true horror this film this film will only disipoint.
NOT THE WORST I N THE SERIES,BUT RIGHT BEHIND 6 & 5.......2007-06-08
This entry into the halloween franchise did deliver some cheap thrill. There are plenty of pop up jolts to make the popcorn fly,but very little more. If your a fan of the series you'll probably like it. The DVD transfer is good and there are some OK extras.
Resurrecting the Worst..........2007-05-23
Most putrid entry in the 'Halloween' franchise. Makes 5, 6 and H20 look like 'Citizen Kane'.
A shameless "re-writing of events" at the beginning of the film tarnishes the previous film, while insulting the intelligence of every moviegoer on the planet.
This time around, Michael Myers returns home to find that an "internet reality show" has set up shop in his old digs, and Busta Rhymes and Tyra Banks are heading up the whole clown-show. This royaly pisses Michael off, (and rightly so).
It's 'Fear-Factor' meets 'Halloween' meets what I puke in the toilet after a weekend of binge-drinking. Unlikeable characters are killed, Busta Rhymes tries to act, Tyra Banks stagnates... it has to be seen to be believed.
Shame on Rick Rosenthal (the director of the admirable 'Halloween II') for helming this cinematic turd.
Avoid like the plague.
Best of the Halloween Movies.......2007-05-21
This is the best of the Halloween series I believe.
"What took you so long?" Halloween: Resurection.......2007-05-13
In 2002, Director Rick Rosenthal and Jamie Lee Curtis returned one last time to the Halloween series to put the final stamp on the original series. The main thing that this movie suffers from is Busta Rhymes horrendous acting job. But that doesn't bring this movie down from Jamie Lee's solid final performance and Bianca Kajlich's phenominal performance.
Michael finally reaches his goal by killing Laurie Strode. He then goes home only to find a group of teens filming a reality series about the Myers house. Michael gets very, very angry...again.
To be perfectly honest, this is the weakest entry plotwise, but it's simplistic nature works wonders for the movie as a whole. The teens character's are very 2D but their performances create lasting impressions on the audience. Rosenthal has worked his magic again for the Halloween series.
This Halloween movie has the most special features out of all. It has an audio commentary with the director and editor a featurette about the web cam aspect of the story and much, much more. Rick sounds very intelligent in the commentary, but the editor doesn't really know the series and makes some idiotic comments, but Rick's comments are much to be treasured especially when he reminices about Halloween II.
In conclusion, this is an underated entry that only suffers from Busta Rhymes hideous performance. Michael is scarier in this entry than in 4-6. This movie has kept the series alive and in public interest well until Rob Zombie's remake will crash into theatres.

halloween.......2007-06-13
my son likes these stories, they are different than ones we have seen on tv.
A true classic collection for the toddler set.......2007-03-28
We owned this on VHS when our older kids were younger, and just purchased it for our 2 1/2 year old twins. Much better quality on DVD - we played the VHS version so much that it finally frayed.
A lot of episodes - and our 1st grade daughter still likes to watch it. Reminds me of a more innocent time - and encourages my kids to play outdoors and use their imaginations! Now if only anyone can tell me where I can find a wolf suit like Max wears in Where the Wild Things Are (it shows up in one of the episodes on this DVD too)!
Repackaged Content Still Pleases.......2006-11-01
"Little Bear: Halloween Stories" is the only "Little Bear" DVD release for 2006. Although it's not immediately evident, this DVD is actually just a rerelease with additional stories of content already released on VHS. The main four featured stories that are part of the Halloween theme were all released on the VHS "Little Goblin Bear" (which I own) way back in 1999.
That said, this is still a great show. There's actually lot of content on this DVD --- around 75 minutes worth. In a smart move, each individual story is accessible from the main menu and the full opening and closing plays for each story --- so you / your kids have the choice of whether to watch it or fast-forward through it. Unfortunately, other than promos for other Nick Jr. releases, there are no special features.
Besides the Halloween-themed stories (which are "Goblin Night," "Moonlight Serenade," "How to Scare Ghosts" and "Thunder Monster"), there are also eight other stories. I'm pretty sure most of these have been released before, but there may be one or two that haven't previously been seen on home video. "Exploring" is a very early and nice "Little Bear" story in which Little Bear heads up an expedition. Two other particularly noteworth ones are "The Campfire Tale" (in which Little's Bear's Uncle Rusty tells a story) and "Duck Loses Her Quack" (in which Duck tries to teach ducklings quacking.) The other stories are "Under the Covers," "Night of the Full Moon," "Up All Night," "Little Sherlock Bear" and "Detective Little Bear."
One bit of warning --- the stories on this are so wonderfully relaxing that you or your kids might end up falling asleep! Not because it's boring --- it's anything but, but just because the overall tone, coloring and characters are very pleasant and relaxing. The only other show like this that I think offers real competition in this category is "Maisy."
Oh, and I didn't notice any changes in the theme music.
they changed the theme music in this one!.......2006-10-19
I love Little Bear for my 3 year old. It DOES calm down little boys. But I was disappointed that they changed the theme music. Don't "they" realize that children need routine - my little boy jumps for joy when he hears the old theme music. We put this on today all excited to see the Halloween episodes and he was quite upset the music was different - en fin....it is still Little Bear but just a little different.
as nice as it gets.......2006-10-17
a very nice collection of toons for younger kids. these cute and kind characters are a good watch to calm down wild little boys.

Halloween can be a frightening time of year for piglets and young Heffalumps, but the power of unconditional friendship should never be underestimated. When a fierce "Gobloon" and an absence of candy threaten to ruin Lumpy's first trick-or-treating experience, Roo and Lumpy set out to capture the Gobloon and save Halloween. As the scared pair journeys toward the tree of terror, the pair reflects on Piglet's mastery of his fear of Halloween and begins to realize that togetherness empowers them. Perhaps true friendship can triumph over an evil Gobloon--even if the Gobloon does have the power to turn its pursuers into "jaggedy lanterns." But, what will happen when Roo and Lumpy become separated? French and Spanish language tracks are included on this DVD and bonus features include an almost impossible "trick or re-treat" game and party instructions for Pooh's Boo Bingo, Pass the Pumpkin, and a Heffalump Halloween Party Planner. (Ages 3 - 7) --Tami Horiuchi
Description
It's a hilariously haunting Halloween in the Hundred Acre Wood. Roo's best new pal, Lumpy, is excited to trick-or-treat for the first time ... until Tigger warns them about the dreaded Gobloon, who'll turn you into a Jaggedy Lantern if he catches you. But if they catch the Gobloon before it catches them, they get to make a wish! With Roo by his side, Lumpy knows he can face anything. So when Pooh eats all the Halloween candy, Lumpy and Roo decide to be "brave together, brave forever" and catch the Gobloon so they can wish for more. When the two friends become separated, however, Roo decides to wish for something even more important. Filled with adventure, unconditional friendship, and lots of laughter, POOH'S HEFFALUMP HALLOWEEN MOVIE is a sweet treat for the whole family.
Customer Reviews:
One of the best movies for my 2 year old!.......2007-06-27
My 2 year old just loves this movie. The first one that she started watching was Winne the Pooh, Heffalump Movie and she absolutely loved that. We saw the preview for the Heffalump Halloween movie and I knew that I just had to get it for her. We watch it about 4 or 5 times a week.
I know it by heart!
It's well worth the money!
Who's Affraif of Heffalumps..........2007-02-12
My two kids, ages 2 & 5 years, love this movie. We show it every Halloween night to all the kids that come to our party, ages newborn to 8 years old. Fun, cute scary and definately Winnie the Pooh. Add it to your collection of movies for young and young at heart.
Great Halloween movie!!.......2007-01-04
If you enjoyed the first Heffalump movie then you will enjoy this one. The movie is about Lumpy's first Halloween and back tracks to other Pooh Halloween movies during the movie. My son didn't mind he loved the movie and loved the songs and many adventures all the characters went on throughout the movie. It's a nice halloween movie that teaches kids not to be afraid of Halloween while introducing why kids love the holiday so much while teaching how important friendship is.
My daughter loved it.......2006-12-15
This is one of my daughter's favorite movies. I watched it and heh, it's definately a kid's movie. My daughter is obsessed with halloween and scaring people so this is right up her alley, but it might scare other little ones.
Halloween in the Hundred Acre Wood.......2006-10-22
Little Roo is filled with excitement over being able to introduce his new friend, Lumpy the Heffalump, to his first Halloween ever! But, at one of Rabbit's usual celebration planning meetings, Tigger's musical explanation of the holiday terrifies poor Lumpy into not wanting to take part at all. Amidst all the excitement, Pooh devours the candy to be used for the festivities that evening, and everyone is at a loss for where to get more. Luckily, Tigger has told everyone his story about the Gobloon, a magical creature that grants a wish to anyone who catches him, but who will turn you into a Jaggedy Lantern if he catches you! Roo decides the only way to get more candy for everyone is to catch the Gobloon and WISH for more! After some convincing, Lumpy agrees to go with him, but their dark and frightening travels through the Hundred Acre Wood reduce Lumpy to a state of utter fright. Only after Roo relays to Lumpy the tale of a Halloween past, when Piglet went through a very similar struggle with fear of the holiday, is Lumpy able to regain the courage to carry on and face whatever dangers lurk in the woods on Halloween Night!
"Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie" is a generally pleasing Halloween romp through the Hundred Acre Wood with only a few hang-ups (besides the usual lack of Owl and the not uncommon lack of Christopher Robin). The biggest complaint folks probably have with this 2005 direct-to-video follow-up to the theatrical "Pooh's Heffalump Movie" is no doubt the fact that about a 3rd of the film is made up of a Winnie the Pooh television special from several Halloweens back, "Boo to You, Too, Winnie the Pooh." Yes, occasionally, Disney releases an "All New" direct-to-video movie that is really just a compilation of TV show episodes or specials. This is often the case with Pooh and the gang direct-to-video releases. On the bright side, there is quite a bit of all new footage here too. In fact, if they had left the flashback to the old Halloween special out, they'd basically have a pretty solid "all new" Holiday Special on their hands. Perhaps they should have just kept the two separate, but released them together on the one DVD. That way, they wouldn't have had to re-mat the television special to match the widescreen look of the new footage. Regardless, the older, 22-minute TV special (minus the credits and with some re-narrating) fits in well enough within the context of the new Heffalump plot, and the older footage looks only SLIGHTLY different. Two other issues come to mind though. One, this film is more targeted at young children than the "whole family," made clear with the focus on Roo and the new Heffalump character, Lumpy. Personally, I'm not totally in love with the Lumpy addition to the cast yet, though perhaps my problem is that I haven't seen the theatrical "Pooh's Heffalump Movie" yet. The other issue worth mentioning is that this is not the most captivating of films. Even the inclusion of "Boo To You, Too, Winnie the Pooh," doesn't help much, as it wasn't the most captivating of Halloween specials. Let me put it this way: The new footage, which is pretty much its own story, even though it surrounds the old Halloween special, focuses on Roo and Lumpy, as I stated before. The older footage, the made-for-television Halloween Special, focuses on Piglet. These, in my opinion, are not the most interesting Pooh cast members. Not having Pooh and Tigger onscreen enough is a problem with keeping THIS viewer's mind from wandering. Don't get me wrong, I love the Pooh movies, and maybe if I had watched this in the family room, on the large TV with the volume blasting, well, I probably wouldn't have had a problem then. However, when you cut back on the scenes with Tigger and Pooh, the Hundred Acre Wood gang is a little less entrancing. Still, I am not saying this DVD isn't worth owning. If you are a fan of Halloween programs and the Pooh gang, it's not without its charm and is definitely a must have. It even includes a handful of original songs amidst both the new and recycled footage. In fact, I've heard some folks say they prefer this Halloween themed release to "Pooh's Heffalump Movie." I really need to pick that one up and give it a watch. "Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie" is also the only way, currently, to get "Boo To You, Too, Winnie the Pooh" on DVD, though I have not decided to toss out my old VHS release yet, since it is still the only release of the original version. Over time though, I'm sure I'll realize that I more often reach for this longer Halloween "movie," with it's very nice picture and sound, over the old VHS, and will finally part ways with it. Though, I do hope that we eventually see a Winnie the Pooh "Holiday Collection" of the television specials, much like the Garfield one that is currently available and that I highly recommend. But, I'll be happy if they just release some boxed volumes of "The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" to DVD, along with the long unseen short, "Winnie the Pooh Discovers the Seasons."
As for the DVD extras, well, there isn't much for an adult to be too thrilled about here, unless you are trying to plan some Halloween games for a group of kiddies. The extras basically include 3 games and a party planner (which just gives details on how to set up the 3 games). The first of the three games isn't half bad, and is basically a "look and find" game for little kiddies. The other two games aren't remote control games, but rather a hot potato type game called "Pass the Pumpkin," for which the DVD provides the music, and a Bingo game for which the DVD handles the number calling. You print out the cards via DVD-Rom features (which I pretty much never look into). Yeah, unless you're planning this kind of party, the only real reason to buy this film is because you love Pooh and Halloween programs, which I do. It's a bit overpriced (at 14.88 or thereabouts most places), but it's a worthy addition to your Pooh or Halloween DVD collection.

Touted as "a movie about people who do stuff that is not normal," Frank Zappa's Baby Snakes chronicles a late-'70s Halloween stand in New York City (a zany enough proceeding in its own right) with digressions throughout the first half for backstage antics, band interviews, and some outlandish clay animation from Bruce Bickford, with whose work Zappa was obviously smitten. Onstage, Zappa is a live wire, the audience is appropriately rambunctious, and the band--an especially potent incarnation of the famous Mothers of Invention--is tight as could be. The film amounts to a three-hour musical carnival whose participants lack any trace of artistic or personal inhibition. Zappa, who died in 1993, always worked with consummate musicians, and Baby Snakes showcases the cream of the crop: Terry Bozzio (one of the greatest drummers ever to command a kit), bassist Patrick O'Hearn, keyboard wizard Tommy Mars, and even pop chameleon Adrian Belew.
The DVD packaging, with its deluxe miniature dossier on Zappa and the film, is fabulous, and the sound and picture seem about as good as they could be, under the influence--that is, the circumstances. Undeniable are Zappa's intelligence and charisma, which flicker and blaze every second he's on screen. The progressive-leaning rock and jazz music is frequently interrupted for meandering spoken interludes and is certainly not for all tastes. But Frank Zappa was a force to behold, and Baby Snakes offers a unique cultural education for anyone bold enough to give it a spin. "Without deviation," Zappa wrote, "progress is not possible." Baby Snakes is one of Frank's most fervent contributions to progress. --Michael Mikesell

The Best.......2007-01-26
If you like Zappa you have to 1979 Concert/Animation/Claymation/Documentary/Home Video movie
It is a good look at Zappa circa 1979 with Terru Bozzio on drums, Ed Mann as Percussoid, Tommy Mars and Peter Wolf on keyboards, Adrian Belew and Patrick o'hearn on bass, Frank Zappa on vocals and most importantly GUITAR! bruce bickford animation, too which is just plain amazing and trip-tastic. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED GRADE A SLOP, comes with free no-d glasses!
Genius @ work & play.......2007-01-16
Where to begin? If you know nothing of Zappa or are a devotee, this will thrill you. The claymation is amazing. The tunes are even better. The stage show remarkable. These guys LOVE every second, every note of their craft and it shows. This film hasnt aged a bit, in fact it still seems avante garde.

Excellent for Little Ones on Halloween.......2006-11-10
My three year old took it to day care on Halloween and all of them LOVED it!
Great for preschoolers!.......2006-11-08
Halloween, Halloween, Trick or Treat!! Cute songs and non scary Halloween fun for young children!
The added bonus of Dora's usual vocabulary lesson is always great. My 19 month old woke up after watching this all week around Halloween and said "open"..."abrae" (open in Spanish, sorry, I don't know if I'm spelling this correctly!). How cool is that?!
Dora is great and this is a wonderful DVD to get in the Halloween spirit without getting scared :)
This is so cute! And very non-scary!.......2006-10-16
My three year old son loves it! And I love it, too!
There are four short episodes. The first one is directly related to Halloween. (Dora must help Little Monster find his home.) The second one isn't directly Halloween related, but is on the same theme. (Dora must help put together a puzzle of a wizard.) The third and fourth episodes are not Halloween related.
The first episode is adorable. It has a cute, catchy song. It is very sweet!
4 great episodes.......2005-11-16
My 2 year old son received this DVD for Halloween. There is only
one Halloween episode, but that's fine. The other 3 episodes (puzzle, monkey bars & storm cloud) are all wonderful. My son requests them over and over, and responds to Dora out loud. I think Dora is a great character for both boys & girls. Even if your child has never watched a Dora episode, this is a very enjoyable way to introduce them to Dora!
The Best Halloween special for kids!.......2005-10-21
I say it's the best if your kids love Dora! And mine do, my daughter who is 2 and my son who is 1. They both love her and the rest of the Dora characters! I recommed this Halloween special for all kids!!!!!!!

A vintage Stephen King concept unfolds in Riding the Bullet: a college kid, circa 1970, must hitchhike a very long (and very dark) hundred miles to visit his hospitalized mother. The ghosts waiting for him along the way are either real or of his own mind (which seems to be a dark place itself). As a King short story, this might have been a usefully frightening premise, but it's almost entirely literary; on screen, it boils down to a guy walking down a road at night. Jonathan Jackson is suitably tortured in the lead role (or roles--he frequently appears double on screen, arguing with himself), but the movie is stolen by David Arquette, rocking it up as a '50s greaser who died in a car crash years earlier. Barbara Hershey and Erika Christensen are wasted in support. There's a strain to make the Woodstock-era setting relevant, but this doesn't seem to have a great deal to do with the private demons of the protagonist. (And if you're going to set it in 1970, how hard is it to catch dialogue anachronisms?) Director Mick Garris is a longtime King conduit (The Stand), but this one is misconceived from the start. --Robert Horton
Description
Riding the Bullet is based on, the master of macabre, Stephen King's first e-book and was directed by Mick Garris (The Stand). Alan embarks on a 100 mile hitch hike to see his mother in the hospital. Along the way he must confront his many demons - both living and dead - and in the end make the ultimate choice that will mean life or death for him and his mother! "A nifty standalone supernatural drama that features some truly terrifying scenarios, while also offering up a bit of well-placed humor and poignancy." - Horror.com

The Bullet missed its target!.......2007-06-25
I've never seen a horror movie with a plot like this before. It's absolutely original. The first half of the movie is engaging. Some frightening and suspenseful scenes happened while he's walking on the street at night. For example, the moment when he was chased into a car cemetery by two strangers.
The second half is boring and repetitive. The worst thing is it turned out they all came from his own imagination!
It's worth watching once.
Should You Take This Ride?.......2007-04-06
Once again Mick Garris is at the helm of another Stephen King adaptation. Garris has made many King movies(if it's a mini series or tv movie, you can bet it was most likely Garris), and while his contributions aren't as memorable as efforts by other directors, Garris tries his damndest to stick as close to the source material as possible. Plus he is one of the most active and dedicated individuals in the horror scene, and for that I respect him quite a bit. But I can't honestly say he made a great movie here. Not bad, but nothing worth a second viewing. Much more plot has been added to the story in order to fill out the 90+ minute running time. A story like this(which if I recall was around 50 pages, give or take) should have been done as one of Garris' Masters Of Horror episodes rather than a full length movie. But when Garris is on, he's on. Alot of the dialogue is straight from the story. A big problem with this movie is Garris' repeated use of the daydream gimmick. You know those scenes in film when something happens to a character(usually horrific and outrageous), then the scene quickly flashes back to the character before the horrific event and you realize that it was all in the character's imagination? This movie is full of these. In fact, it may actually have set a record for uses of this movie trick. It seems to happen at least once every two minutes and quickly becomes silly and then downright annoying. Plus we add a bunch of hallucinations and the main character continuously talking to himself(two of the same actor onscreen at once) and it dulls the suspense and seems like a desperate attempt at being flashy. Plus, the film takes place in 1969, but every now and then we get a blast of very modern sounding music. Personally I can't stand anachronistic music in a film that's supposed to be taking place in a different time period. But even with all of my yapping and whining, Garris managed to pull off another passably entertaining and fairly accurate King adaptation. Just not a terrible memorable one.
Its not scary and its not brilliant.......2006-09-04
Its kind off like Stephen king meets Twilight Zone. Dont get me wrong both are brilliant but i appreciate King as more of an "Epic" 3 hour mini-series kind of storyteller and not the hitchcock short story kind of guy.
It really feels like you have just watched a short story from Twilight zone at the end of the day. The character development and storyline is just too limited to be worth the 2 hours.
If it was one of 3 stories on a ("twilight zone like") compilation and only an hour or so in length, it would have been 5 stars!
If you want an epic tale by King (like Rose Red, Storm of the centuary, the Shining) rather look for something else because this will dissapoint you.
(Please forgive me Mr. King)
good start to a giant turd -5.......2006-04-14
i also love every adaptation of kings books even storm of the century & rose red was cheezy but had good acting & was semi scary. this started out really good & like the others. once he begins his journey its over from their, first you find out that he is a supper wimp that tries to act cool, a character that is saposed to not be the main charcter unless a comedy, he is afraid of even an old weak man. david arquete cant act his way out of nut sack, so theirs no saprise that this is his worst movie ever. they try to play every sceen with at lease 3 ways that the situation could happen in his head but dosent come true, that is a great use of showing horror or scary elements that dont happen but thats the whole movie, no one really dies except he has a vision of his dad blowing his head off but just shows the wall splatter, but hese already dead before the movie starts & his mother at the end but she died of lung cancer, he dosent even really get hurt although he gets fakly attacked several times. the end of the movie will possibly make you throw up its so bad, they try to monolague the rest of his life that ends making him look even more pathetic than he was throught the movie, which is a lot more trust me or watch for your self. i have no idea how this got an r rating due to no severed parts, light swearing, no nudity, & the only part that i could say is his dad blows his head off but ive sceen worst in pg-13. they must have begged to get the ratting because i wont watch those sad pathetic pg-13's unless just cause. im not sure what the rest of you saw giving this 4 & 5 stars. yall must love the cry wolf & all the pg-13 horror garbage, so if thats your style this movis is ripe for your picking.
Strange Things Can Happen On A Lonely Dark Country Road!.......2006-03-05
Every once in a while they manage to film a really good Ghost Story and they have done it with this movie. The viewer is introduced to Allan, a College kids back in the 1970's who is hitchiking to Lewiston in Maine to visit his ill mother. Allan is confronted by the ghosts of his past and present during his long lonely walk to the hospital. This movie is dark, eerie and very atmospheric and this is one film which I would have liked to have watched on the big screen. The extra feature included in this DVD is Allan's sketch book which is alone makes this movie worth watching. Bravo to all concerned with the making of this film.
