Customer Reviews:
You get what you pay for.......2007-04-13
When you are reading those books of film reviews (I'm talking mainly horror here) and you come across an obscure movie and think you'd love to see that - because the reviewer says it is so good, or maybe because they say it is so bad - but you think you'll never get the chance, well these 50 Movie Packs are probably the best chance you'll get to see some of those movies. I have 5 of these sets Horror, Science Fiction, Chillers, Nightmare Worlds as well as Tales of Terror. I bought them to see some of the aforementioned movies at a reasonable price. Some of the films on these sets can be purchased in better versions but they are more expensive. If you like one or more of the movies here you can buy a better version later. Anyone expecting razor sharp images, perfect colour and high quality sound should look elsewhere - you get what you pay for with these sets. The quality varies from good to awful, but I've yet to find a title that was so bad, picture or sound wise, that it was unwatchable. So if you can live with imperfection these packs are worth a look - and, to be honest, anyone who pays this price for 50 movies and claims to be disappointed, deserves to be.
Bad movies at great prices.......2007-04-12
I bought the 50-movie pack of Tales of Terror, along with the 50-pack Chilling Classics and Drive-In Movie Classics, to suppliment my collection of so-bad-they're-good movies. Of the three, Drive-In Classics is my favorite. At less than four bits a pop, you can't go wrong with these films. While image quality is not HD it is better than what I expected. With an infusion of 150 new movies into my film library I have more than enough to keep me busy for many long weekends.
I am ready for Mill Creek to release Tale of Horror II, Drive-In Classics II, and Chilling Classics II. Keep the bad movies coming, guys.
On a 1 to 10 scale, this collection is rated: 4.8.......2007-04-08
MILL CREEK ENTERTAINMENT box sets offer a low price and a wide selection of titles within each featured genre. Video quality varies with condition of original prints, and audio tends to be fair to good. Their product is always well-worth owning.
The TALES OF TERROR 50 MOVIE PACK consists primarily of American-made fright films. A third of this set are imports. All these movies would fall into the 'B' category, yet for any fright film fan, the variety offered here is sure to please.
Consumer polling data from a film related website averages out this set (on a 1 to 10 scale) at 4.8.

WOW!.......2007-04-01
I had the pleasure of watching a couple of movies from this set last night and let me just say, I must be blessed. Ironbound Vampire is... phenomenal. Its plot was intricate, its characters were well developed, and the cinematography only would have been better had Dion Beebe (of Memoirs Of A Geisha fame) shot it. There were NO plot holes. Everything made sense, I swear.
If I had six thumbs, they would all go up in honor of this masterpiece.
Beware of Mill Creek logo!.......2007-02-17
Occasionally a "Mill Creek" logo pops up at the lower right corner of the screen.
I threw my copy away since I do not tolerate logos in DVDs.

Not bad.......2007-06-29
At first, this seemed to be sort of like Everafter was to Cinderella, albeit on the dark side. The whole talking mirror could have been put down to post-partum psychosis combined with the shock of losing a child (and the ability to reproduce). When the actual magic comes into play, it is almost pointless, and I think the movie would have been better if the focus had been on the psychological rather than trying to squeeze in the supernatural.
That said, Sam Neill and Sigourney Weaver are wonderful. The rest of the cast ... not so much. I wasn't impressed with Lilli, Peter or the mildly-scarred hero.
If it weren't for Sigourney Weaver, this would be mediocre at best. It's worth watching for her performance.
Snow White - A Tale of Terror.......2007-05-09
It's dark and has an interesting take on the classic story. Though the back story of Snow's love interest was lacking, it's still a keeper.
Snow's love interest ... I like to think that he was the son of a noble family, and his parents had opinions that others didn't agree with, which is why they were attacked.
Sigourney rocks in Snow White.......2007-02-08
Snow White as it was meant to be. Signourney and Sam are at their best in this dark and scary rendition of Snow White. Not for the faint of heart.
Sogornweve Fans.......2007-01-10
this movie is not ment for the kids this movie is ment for the adults. but let me tell you this is one movie that will knock your socks right off. injoy the movie and go and grab this movie before its too late. buy it for your collection. all thumbs up for this movie. and the twist of it all is a fair tall that you have not seen in you life time. its great for the adult but again not for the kids. tks.
Quite a different tale!.......2006-09-04
Sigourney Weaver was PERFECT as the evil stepmother. You know this from the very start, when she is first introduced in the movie. No, it's not a fairytale for kiddies, but if you like horror - you will like this version.

great 70,s horror.......2007-07-04
went to see this at the pictures when i was 10,it was a double bill with westworld,i remeber coming out of the pictures with goose bumps all the way home,it didn,t scare me much it was just the thought of what could happen to you when you did the wrong thing in life, karma is real my mother use to tell me when i told her what the movie was about.
Vincent Price Flicks.......2006-08-10
As a huge fan of Vincent Price films, I've found this a valuable addition to my collection. I never saw either of these films in the theatre or on T.V. and while not at the top of the line like Dr. Phibes or The Fly, there's still some good creepy and entertaining moments.

someone got sane and released something good(and not over treated with DVD puddings).......2007-06-29
I watched this over and over when it was broadcast in '79 or something. I say that because it had a frequency of re-occuring on TV more than once that year. I loved the enchanting atmospheric way of presentations in those days(most stuff now a joke in comparison). The seriousness in the dialouge and the music haunting and subtle a different world than today. I compare it with "Fligth of Dragons" and "The Last Unicorn" other examples that should be the basis for all animation. The other revewers speak of cover art. Never judge a DVD by it's "cover". It is not important, it's just a box of cardboard, ignor it! The video is the quality of the original and not the box cutesy artsy(whatever).
R&B is the only studio of good quality utilising the very stylish oriantal animation coupled with american acting. Tempored by lovely sometimes prograssive tunes.(also The Hobbit, RoTK, Flight of Dragons, Last Unicorn, ect.)get it! I am shocked they even have it!
A very good adaptation from book to animation film.......2007-04-28
Somehow I missed this film when I was little but am having a chance to see it now with my daughter.
It is a very good adaptation from the book and seems to capture the essence of the book even better than the more recent elaborately produced Disney version. It focuses more on the rest of the story and less on big budget battle scenes, which I am getting so bored with in fantasy movies. At first I was startled by how primitive the animation was. It was distracting but after a while I simply didn't notice because I was engrossed in the tale.
The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.......2007-04-03
The first time I viewed this movie, I was a seven year old child in the 1980's. I loved every minute of the film and remember going outside and playing "Narnia" in the forest area at the campground we were staying at. All through my life I remembered parts of the movie vividly even though I never read the book or even saw the movie again.
When I was in my mid-20's and was waiting for Disney's Live Action version to be released, I decided to read the book and was surprised how well this animated version I watched as a child held to the book, and even more surprising, how vividly I could recall the cartoon as I read through the book.
It was an exciting day when I finally watched this animated version with my wife 21 years after watching it for our first time (we saw the movie together when we were seven). I was a little surprised that the animation wasn't quite as high quality as I remember it being, but it was the same great story, and now that I am older, a beautiful soudtrack to accompany the film. All Christians should certainly love this film as it is clearly an allegory to Christ's death as salvation, however even those who don't follow Christianity can enjoy this film as a good clean movie to share with your children.
This isn't the Emmy Award winning title...it's the other cheaper version..........2006-12-05
I don't think that this is the Emmy Award version - look at the graphics on the cover (cheesy!). The Emmy Award winnning version is actually cheaper than this one!
awesome movie!!.......2006-07-18
this is a good family oriented movie, for us adults who saw this movie when we were kids and forgot how much fun this was until we saw the "live action Naria"!

When you've got Vincent Price, Basil Rathbone, and Peter Lorre all in the same movie, how can you go wrong? Tales of Terror is a trio of Edgar Allen Poe stories, starring three of horror's greats and produced and directed by the immortal Roger Corman. The first story, "Morella," involves a girl (Debra Paget) who returns to her isolated, spooky family home to see her estranged father (Price) for the first time in 26 years. He's let the housekeeping slide a bit--cobwebs abound and, oh, yes, his dead wife is still upstairs. Peter Lorre joins the fun for "The Black Cat," a piece with comic flavor that allows Price to show his rarely seen silly side, and then it's Basil Rathbone's turn to be creepy in "The Case of M. Valdemar," the tale of a mesmerist who decides to experiment with the unknown (bad idea). The movie is well paced, and makes good use of comedy without undercutting its chills. It's a rare treat to see this many masters of the genre working together and so clearly enjoying themselves. Don't miss it. --Ali Davis
Customer Reviews:
The nadir of Corman's shining collection .......2006-09-11
Peter Lorre's ,"The Black Cat",is charmingly done.Yet,the other two are stinkers.I'm a Corman fan,but this was boring and silly to watch.I think they had a good idea ,bringing the trilogy it to the big screen. But,this version and interpretation of Poe's masterpieces didn't translate well at all.So ,beware of the dog!
A wonderful horror anthology.......2004-02-05
Vincent Price leads an all-star cast in this horror film. Price appears in all three segments. In the first, he plays a man named "Locke" who blames the death of his wife on his daughter who's just came back after 26 years. This is great, verbal horror sort of like a throwback to "Night Gallery" or other dramatic anthology shows, where the horror is in the character's personality and not in the graphics. only the final minutes does the story turn into what AIP movie goers expect. The second story, as has been voted by mostly all on here, is the stand-out. Peter Lorre and Joyce Jameson team up with Vincent in a re-telling of "Cask of Amontillado" but re-titled "The Black Cat". If you've heard or read the story, you pretty much know what's going to happen...the wine tasting scene is hilarious. The final segment offers Basil Rathbone and Vincent although Rathbone has the most action as Price's character, Valdemar, is bed-ridden. Rathbone plays an evil mesmerist who mentally tortures Valdemar's wife and keeps Valdemar in suspended animation you could say in an effort to kill him and run off with the wife! The segment ends with a memorable scene that isn't really sick...but it's not for the squeamish, either! It's one of Rathbone's finest roles, aside from Sherlock Holmes and the hilarious nut-case character in "Comedy of Terrors". This film came along in 1962. At 85 minutes in length, it's short for a feature-length film...but the material and the first-rate acting by everyone make it seem even SHORTER!!
GARBAGE.......2003-10-10
Don't waste your time or money with this DVD. The best part of the DVD is probably the Trailers and most of those are Garbage also. My DVD came loose in the package and scratched, too bad it didn't do any damage to ruin the Movie. I couldn't wait until the Movie was over, I would have stopped it earlier, but wanted to see if any damage was done. You'll be counting the minutes and seconds after watching the first half or even earlier. The last story was stupid and horrible and should have been left off. Don't waste your money, spend it on the cheap $5-6 horror DVD's, because at least those can be somewhat entertaining.
Tales of tepid terror.......2002-11-03
What happens when you take great actors (Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Basil Rathbone), a great writer (Richard Matheson), great source material (E.A. Poe) and a passable director (Roger Corman) and have them make a movie? Nothing very good, as it turns out.
This movie is actually three short movies linked by Price's narration. The first story deals with a young woman who returns to the home of her father, a recluse tormented by the death of his wife; how she died is not really clear, but she is nonetheless intent on revenge. The second story - the best of the three - is a take-off on the Cask of Amontillado with Lorre as a murderous drunk. The final story has Rathbone as a mesmerist who traps Price in a state between life and death.
All three stories have potential, the first and last for horror, and the middle one for humor. Unfortunately, none of the stories are executed well, a fault that seems to lie primarily with Corman. For fans of the Poe movies of the sixties (directed primarily by Corman), this might be worth watching, but for horror fans, it is best to look elsewhere.
One of the Creepy Corman Classics.......2002-10-30
Directed by the venerable king of quality low-budget filmmaking, Roger Corman, and scripted by the prolific and popular SF and horror writer Richard Matheson, TALES OF TERROR is comprised of three vignettes based on stories by Edgar Allan Poe. The incomparable Vincent Price stars in all three, with Peter Lorre and Basil Rathbone each co-starring (separately, alas) in one of the others. Any knowledgeable horror fans should be nearly euphoric after reading the credentials behind this flick--and they won't be disappointed!
The first story is based on Poe's "Morella," but Corman and Matheson take great liberties to make the tale darker and scarier than the original. Unfortunately, the altered plot and its resolution (?) are a bit hard to follow, and it is therefore the weaker of the three plays.
The second--and best!--vignette, "The Black Cat" is actually a composite of Poe's story of the same name and his "The Cask of Amontillado." Peter Lorre hilariously hams it up as the cuckolded Montresor Herringbone, and Vincent Price is also a riot as Herringbone's nemesis, Fortunato. In spite of the humor, however, there are still plenty of chills when Lorre builds a wall around his "problems."
The final vignette, based on Poe's "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar," features the wonderful Basil Rathbone as the hypnotist who uses his powers to put the titular character, Valdemar (portrayed by Price), in a sort of limbo between life and death. Again, Corman and Matheson have taken liberties with the original story (e.g., making the hypnotist malevolent and self-serving), but this time it's to great effect, as Rathbone makes a delightfully devilish villain. The make-up job on Price in the final scene is pretty creepy, too, in spite of the film's low-budget effects. Good old-fashioned frights in this one.
The DVD edition of TALES OF TERROR is short on extras (trailer only)--it would've been great to have a Corman commentary on this one, which many of the other MGM releases of Corman's films DO have--but seeing this film in widescreen makes it well worth the reasonable cost. A worthy addition to any fan of classic horror.

Customer Reviews:
These films suck(blood)!!!!.......2005-12-27
The ol' vampire film genre is getting tired and definitely is in need of some new blood(don't have to write`pun intended', do I??)
These are chinese vampire films that are different from the Mr. Vampire types.
Ninja Vampire Busters is a great take on Ghostbusters with the wild wire effects and stunts we love from HK action films.
Only now it's with bloodsuckers.
Interesting mix of chinese black magic and rituals mixed with modern day vampire hunting.
Much more enjoyable than Van Helsing!!!
The other film is a real rare one.
It has a no name cast and is obviously low budget.
It reminds you of the cheap-o horror films of the 1960's.
I would say to get these just for the cover art alone but the low price makes this a sure sale.

Uneven.......2007-05-24
Since this movie was done for about a third of the budget of the ultra low budget Blair Witch, one can't be too harsh. Street Tales has its moments. The 1st story with the three little girls is actually pretty good, the acting, camera shot selections as well as the story. But there are other parts of the movie where the shot selections were very amateurish. Waaaaaaay too many wide angle shots in the last story. And whats with the shot of the hand carrying a cup all away across the room. This lasts for 32 seconds and was the most boring shot I've seen in my life.I've seen other reviews that blamed the script for the problems of this film but anyone with any ounce of knowledge in the industry knows that shot selection can kill a movie/scene just like poor staging can kill a play.In fairness, there were points where the shot selection was good and others where you wonder what were the director and camera man thinking. Very uneven
Not Worth Watching Renting or Buying.......2007-01-07
This movie sucked. I could of did a better film. Tales from the hood was way better.
Street Tales of Terrible Moviemaking..........2005-09-09
This movie definately ranks as one of the worst straight-to-video horror movies of all times. Shot entirely on video, the camera angles and lighting are amateurish (it actually looks like a film that a high school kid with his first video camera and a bunch of friends would make). The stories themselves are boring rehashes of urban legends that have been told a million times before and a million times better. The acting is equally bad and appears to have made full use of the local high school or junior college acting class (though the actor who plays the bum is actually kinda funny)Ignore the "awards" cited on the front of the DVD - I was sucked in by them, thinking that there must be SOMETHING good and/or scary in this movie. But, no. Save your money and your time. Do not rent, and certainly do not buy, this one...
