Description
Cutting edge Technology from V-3 Media allows Troma to bring you the new and exciting release of the first DVD triple feature! That's right! The Troma Triple B-Header packs three troma-riffic classics on one DVD for one amazingly low price
and what classics they are! Blades, Blood Hook and Zombie Island Massacre offer up the tromatic goodies for the first DVD release of its kind! First, in Blades, a golf course plagued by vicious mutilation murders sends caddyshivers up the spines of terrified golfers in this hilariously chilling Jaws on the fairway! Blood Hook, the second feature, offers humorous horror from the mind of Jim Mallon (Creator of Mystery Science Theater 3000) set during the "Muskie Madness" fishing tournament where somebody longs for something bigger on their hook than a trout. Last, but not least, Zombie Island Massacre features former Watergate congressional wife Rita Jenrette in a cult classic which features a nude shower scene in the first ten minutes! All this and three introductions from Troma President and creator of the Toxic Avenger, Lloyd Kaufman!

A Tromatic 80's Classic!.......2004-11-24
Blades is a bizarrely entertaining parody of Steven Spielberg's breakthrough feature film Jaws. However, in place of a 25 foot great white shark, we have a multi-bladed diesel powered lawn mower that appears to be operating all on its own (a la Maximum Overdrive). Instead of a beach resort for a setting we have an uppity country club golf course, inhabited by well-to-do, soon-to-be-human-yard-clippings. And by parody I do not mean comedy because Blades is not funny in the ha-ha kind of way. The cast seem to take little notice of the ridiculous premise and carry it through with straightforward, almost matter-of-fact performances. It is a laugh-riot for sure but we're not talking Naked Gun or Scary Movie here. Blades would probably be more at home sitting beside This is Spinal Tap. Just as Tap sends up Heavy Metal and all of its inanities, Blades finds a clever way to poke fun at one of the most accomplished horror films of all time. Not bad. Not bad at all.
This Troma DVD also came with 2 other full-length features: Blood Hook and Zombie Island Massacre making for a fantastic Tromo Triple B-Header!
A MUST HAVE !!!!.......2004-09-29
THIS DVD IS GREAT . BLOOD HOOK IS WORTH THE MONEY IT SELF . HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG WITH A CRAZED KILLER WHO HAS A FISHING POLE AND MUSKIE LURE AND HE IS LOOKING TO CATCH HIM SOME TEENS .
BLADES IS ANOTHER CLASSIC , KILLER LAWNMOWERS AT THERE BEST .
AND ZOMBIE ISLAND MASSACRE IS ANOTHER CULT FAVORITE .
THIS DVD IS WORTH THE MONEY AND IT MAKES A GOOD ADDITION TO ANY HORROR COLLECTION .
Wonderfully entertaining, despite itself.......2004-01-16
This DVD includes three movie "pick-ups" from Troma, "Blood Hook", "Blades", and "Zombie Island Massacre". Alone, none of these films is among Troma's best, but now that they are all out on a single disc, with a brand new introduction by Lloyd Kaufman, the president of Troma Studios and the mother of the Toxic Avenger, the whole is much greater than the sum of the parts.
The first film in this non-trilogy is "Blades" (1989), a very entertaining and funny tale of a killer lawn mower (!) on a golf course. This I had never seen until getting this DVD, and I was quite surprised by how enjoyable it was. (I am not a fan of golf. Sorry.) This was made by and with many people who's names will be familiar to Troma fans, including John P. Finnegan, Peter Cosimano, Kara Callahan, and Alan Smithee. Directed by Thomas Rondinella.
"Blood Hook" (1986) is possibly the greatest movie about fishing, or more exactly a sociopathic killer who uses fishing equipment to kill his victims, ever made. This not enough to recommend it, but it is a very good movie, with many interesting characters and events. This movie does tend to get a bit silly at times, but is full of laughs. It stars Lisa Todd, Mark Jacobs, and Christopher Whiting. Directed by Jim Mallon.
The weakest of the three is "Zombie Island Massacre" (1983), a very tedious, boring, uninteresting, repetitive film that doesn't employ any actual zombies as actors. This is not much of a horror film, it's more of a mystery, and I do not like mystery movies. It involves a bunch of Americans running afoul of a group of "zombies" while vacationing in the islands. This motion picture is not all bad, though, as it does have some entertainingly gory deaths. It stars Rita Jenrette, Tom Cantrell, and Debbie Ewing. Directed by John T. Carter.
The true joy of this DVD, though, is getting to see all of the movies in a single sitting. This easily outweighs any of the shortcomings that the actual movies themselves may have. This is a great way to spend a day off, relaxing while watching a trio of entertaining, low-budget films.

NOT ENOUGH FOOTAGE OF THE VERY GROSS ZOMBIE.......2006-11-25
Near the end of the movie is when the main charactor turns 100% into a VERY GROSS and realistic looking zombie which to me was not enough. This movie would of been better if they showed this dead guy looking VERY GROSS starting at about 20 minutes into the movie, but they didnt.
the hum-bie mind.......2006-11-10
this movie is unlike any other zombie film ive come into contact with, its a psycholgical movie that the lead character happens to be turning zombie.the effects a understandable for low budget but this movie deserves a look for other reasons. The story leaves you with not alot of closure but you feel satisfied because you know its best that way. The beginning, middle & end are all done well. Charcter building was just right. The zombie film is unique and this kind of story would be best if not ever attempted by anyone again.
Steal for under 5 bucks.......2006-09-26
This is an Interesting film. It's sad in a lot of ways and humanizes the zombie state by moving you to feel for the main characters past as a human, and future as a zombie. This movie is an absolute STEAL for under $5 (most used DVD's of this title are under $5)
awesome concept, slow pace.......2006-08-11
i had this on VHS and finally decided to watch it again after a few years of sitting in a box in my basement. i loved the basic idea. the movie even went so far as to show what happens to a zombie when he tries to pleasure himself with a little jerk action (it would probably be the worst thing out of the entire ordeal).
i didn't have much expectations, but i was somewhat surprised at the acting. i'm not talking about the victims, they were bad. i'm talking about the main character. he actually put on quite a good performance. i was impressed how he accurately portrayed the suffering of a man who is dying but cannot die.
the only problem i really had was the pace was just too damn slow. i understand it takes some time to show the character's suffering, but this movie was bordering on tedium. that is the only reason i had to drop this movie a couple of stars.
I, Zombie: A Chronical Of Pain.......2005-10-05
Basic Plot: The main character is hiking in an unknown area when he is bitten by a strange and obviously very ill young woman. He is forced into the lifestyle of a hermit when physical and mental decay sets in, as well as a strong urge to kill others and eat their bodies.
With a decent amount of gore (including a few scenes that'll definitely make you squirm), above-average acting for a low-budget B-movie, and an undeniably original and fresh concept for a zombie flick, "I Zombie" certainly deserves a rental. A purchase, on the other hand, you should think twice about. I found the storyline to be a bit tedious and the overall feel of the film to be very amature (which I suppose could be a good thing for some B-fans, but this was almost student-film level). It's irresistible to any zombie fan such as myself, and I'm glad I saw it. Originality is very intriguing to any viewer, and this certainly has that. But it doesn't have much more to separate from any other straight-to-DVD horror flick. And who says that's a bad thing?

Description
Finally, the film that has it all! A mad astro-scientist ("B" horror king John Carradine) reviving corpses at his laboratory in a secluded mansion, two gore-crazed, solar-powered killer robot zombies, a bloody trail of girl-next-door victims, Chinese communist spies and deadly Mexican secret agents led by the insanely voluptuous Tura Satana (Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!) and intrepid CIA agent Wendell Corey hot on their trail and trying to figure it all out! Almost too much for one movie; must be seen to be believed! A high-powered fusion of Ed Wood, Russ Meyer and George Romero! Co-written and co-produced by television star Wayne Rogers (M*A*S*H).
Customer Reviews:
A few bits of goodness, but my finger was mostly on the FF button.......2007-04-02
I am continuing my mission to review every movie with the word "zombie" or "dead" in the title. I'm on the fence when it comes to "Astro Zombies". It's barely a good "bad movie"; and comes quite close to crossing the line into being a bad "bad movie".
First, and most important, what strain of Zombie are these Astro Zombies? These are the solar powered, plastic "space man" masked, stabbing and killing variety of zombie. There are no flesh-eaters here, but these zombies are so unique that they are almost endearing. Especially when one has to run around holding a flashlight to his solar panel, so he may ambulate at night when his power reserves are low. The zombies get a 6/10 for uniqueness.
The gore is barely existent. A few splashes of red here and there, and some jiggling hearts and brains in jars. Gore score: 1/10.
Speaking of jiggling, the gratuitous sexism and nudity is low on the scale as well. The zombies "happen" to rip open their victims' shirts while stabbing them, but it's so poorly shot that it doesn't really matter. There is one naked dancing girl, who is painted head to toe, and another young lady strapped to a torture table (for no reason what so ever). Once again, these scenes are poorly shot/lit/edited. Late 60's jiggly score of 3/10.
Unfortunately, the zombies in this movie are barely in this picture. Most of the film is taken up by John Carradine using a screwdriver. Or John Carradine flipping a switch. Or John Carradine telling his hunchback assistant about how he is going to flip a switch. Or the hunchback giving the camera a creepy look. Or federal agents talking in a room about John Carradine flipping a switch. After a while I found myself fast-forwarding lengthy sections of this movie. Boredom scale (0 being boring, 10 being Dawn of the Dead) 3/10.
Cheesy dialogue. A good "bad movie" will have a wealth of terrible one-liners and pseudo science. A bad "bad movie" will have dialogue too bad to make fun of, and acting worse than a 70's soft-core porn movie. I did enjoy the cheesy dialogue in this film. The best source of laughable lines came from Tura Satana, who was so cool and cruel that she almost seemed out of place in this film. Her bad acting was far better than everyone else's terrible acting. I give Astro Zombies a delicious cheesy dialogue score of 7/10.
Overall, I can't recommend this movie to fans of Zombie films. It is o.k. if you have a fascination with bad movies, though. Try to rent it, or pick it up used for under five dollars, if you are curious.
GOTTA LOVE THE ASTROZOMBIES.......2004-12-10
WONDERFUL B MOVIE MAYHEM. LOVED THE SPY STUFF, CARRADINE'S PSEUDO-SCIENCE, THE GREAT WIND-UP ROBOTS AND TANKS OPENING SEQUENCE,THE ASTOZOMBIES...HELL I DUG IT ALL! NOT GREAT ART (WHO EXPECTED IT TO BE?) BUT IT IS GREAT FUN!
an endearing guilty pleasure.......2004-09-15
I have a lot of affection for this film. I first learned about it from the Misfit's song Astrozombies and then I stumbled across Mark Of The Astrozombies (the sequel to this movie) on video. I was astounded! I then tracked down the original on DVD and it was love at first sight. I loved the great DVD cover featuring an Astrozombie attacking a beautiful female and those great cheesy blurbs like "See: Astro Space Laboratory"! Great stuff! I put this disc into my DVD player, hit play, and I had a blast! It's been magic ever since. Folks this infamous bad movie has become like a beloved retarded relative to me. Sure it's slow in spots (it would have played better if it were only a little more than an hour long so keep your finger on the fast-forward button) but it's got plenty of entertaining moments that I adore. Truly a gulity pleasure. The sequel is something else too. Wait 'til you see the living severed head of John Carradine in that one! Mark Of The Astrozombies is a fine follow-up and an even more enjoyable gulity pleasure. Ted V. Mikels has gotten better with age! THANKS TED!
B-movie commits cardinal sin...........2004-08-22
Unlike other truly horrible B-movies, like lets say Ed Wood's movies, this movie lacks the entertainment factor and becomes bogged down in numerous sub-plots and intricacies. Over all the movie is pretty boring.
Everybody is trying to get their hands on the "Astro-Man" who is sometimes referred to as an "Astro-Zombie." The Chinese spy, Satana, who never actually identifies herself as from that country, desperately wants to deliver the all-obeying "Astro-Man" to her government. The authorities and the mad scientist's former partner also are looking for the "Astro-Man" who was stupidly ressurected from a psychopath's brain and is now on a murderous rampage through town, killing off young gals.
The movie is flawed in almost every way. Many scenes are dragged on for much too long, especially in the labortories. The mad scientist talks to his wannabe Igor in B.S scientific lingo for a good chunk of the movie. If it made sense then it might have then made a valuable addition to the movie unfortunatelyu it does not and is as I earlier said B.S. The director decided to plop down numerous scens like this throughout the movie. Also it was never explained how the authorities came to the conclsion that a zombie was killing people. They tried to somehow make sense of it and they were not able to. Yes, I know this is a B-movie, it isn't supposed to make sense.
However the most egregious flaw in this movie is also what makes this a sub-par B-movie is that the zombies were only in the movie for about 5 minutes. The first zombie was exposed to us in the first 5 minutes then dissappeared for about half an hour. Instead the movie focused more on the ridiculous and boring sub-plot of spies and police officers which was neither funny nor scary nor anything that should be in a 'quality' B-movie. When we finally get some zombie action by the end on the movie we are already bored out of our minds and then dissapointed that that action oly lasts for less than 5 minutes.
The movie fails as a good movie but more importantly it fails as a B-movie as it is boring and overall not funny. I would recommend a little bit of use of the fast forward button if I were you.
Saw it when I was 6 or 7.......2004-03-16
I just wanted to chime in that I saw this movie at either the theatre or the drive-in when it came out. I was born in 1963 so do the math! I hesitate to buy the dvd since I know a contemporary viewing will surely pale to the effect it had on me as a kid. I thought it was a hoot at the time and always had fond memories about it. I'm glad my parents were liberal enough to allow me to become such a demented little cuss at such a young age. Thanks mom and dad!

Louisiana voodoo zombie schlock.......2006-02-13
Here we have Shriek distributors giving us a long lost bayoo classic. Is the movie good? Hell no. Is it fun to watch? Hell yes! The plot has more holes than swiss cheeeze, but that's the fun of these beauties. The story's about a guy who inherits a plantation that his voodoo loving cousin is presently living on, and he, his new bride, and the stranded belly dancing mistress they pick up find out quick that dear ol' couz isn't about to give up the property easily. She has her dead brother (a tuxedo wearing, long-haired zombie)waiting to do the deed that'll get rid of these pesky invaders. As a bonus, you also get the ultra bad (& I mean BAD) feature lenght "Voodoo Swamp" included in this package that has to be one the worst made movies I've seen yet! This is classic "bad-is-good". If the feature plot had holes in it, then this was machine gunned! No opening or end credits; can you believe that! In the movie, when they move to the next scene, you'll still see a faded print of the last scene for a few seconds! Believe it or not, this isn't even distracting. It's almost drug inducing. Absolutely hilarious stuff. Set in the Louisiana swamps, this is about a lovely lass who hires a hero boy P.I. to find her missing sister. He traces her to a place called "slave island", or something like that, and following this story is a priceless experience. The funny thing is that I watched it to the end. Being a veteran of bad movies, & B-flicks, I can't say that about every film I've watched. No spoilers here, you'll have to get this to view it yourself. Don't be put off by negative reviews. If you're into great 60's schlock, then these atmospheric gems will be your cup tea leaves. Get it while you can.
One of the worst movies I have ever seen.......2005-02-27
Wow. This movie really sucks. The plot is pointless and kind if hard to follow. I don't know why this is classified as a horror movie. The run time is an hour and a half and for about an hour and 15 mins all you watch is the couple talking. VERY SCARY!
Yes the movie was made in 1961 so the color is horrible. The audio is also not too pleasant. And not to bad mouth Shriek Show because they usually do a bang up job. The only time you see the zombie is during the last fifteen mins and even then nothing much more happens. And just so you know there is no blood or anything in this movie.
I'm just glad I only spent ten bucks on this.
Another Long Lost Gem on DVD.......2003-02-04
Shriek Show Video has come up with a real rare flick this time. It is Barry Mahon's long lost gem "Blood Of The Zombie" aka "The Dead One."
A very interesting story about a woman who brings back to life a rotting zombie to do her bidding. The print quality is very good and the color is vibrant in spots. It also co-stars Linda Ormand, wife of filmmaker Ron Ormond who gave the world such treats as Mesa Of Lost Women and Monster & The Stripper. Nice DVD release and I hope Shriek Show finds more rare gems like this. Highly Recommended for horror fans!!

The short films in this compilation range from well-turned indie horror to student-film scrappiness, but they certainly deliver on the gore. Fangoria magazine put the call out for short-form horror flicks, and this batch comprises the winners. As is generally the case with anthologies, there are some dead zones--perhaps a few too many for the combined one-hour running time. Among the best are: Mr. Eryams, a nicely sustained mood-and-blood piece about an observer coming to a haunted house (keep an eye out in the future for director BC Furtney); Song of the Dead, which plays a deliciously fresh variation on the zombie theme; and Disturbances, a small but creepy number with that scariest of household horrors... little dead-eyed dolls. As for the rest, you'd better be a big fan of slasher stuff. "Hosted" by the ineffable Rob Zombie. --Robert Horton

Its like confusing........2006-05-22
me and my freind rented this and it was like confusing. Yousee we just scored some good stuff and we watched Blood drive while we used it. Well, the movie was confusing yo u see because the plot and the people kept changing. I went "Dude whats up with this?" and my freind was all "its not just one movie. Its a bunch of movies."
i thought they could have made that clearer. its like on my 21st birthday becuase im like over 21 you know. Well, I'm at this bar with anotherf reind and well i wanna go home cuz i'm like way out of it by now. He keeps saying "Yeah, Tad. after this drink we'll go. After thisdrink well go you get the idea. i guess he figured i couldnt tell it was a diffrent drink every time he said it.
Faschist.
I hate fashcists.
Well, i guess if its a bunch of movies some are pretty good.
See ya!
2 Stars instead of 1 Simply Because I Couldn't Stop Laughing.......2005-12-12
My husband & I rented this movie because we love the horror genre & thought we might be in for a good scare. No such luck in that department. We did laugh a lot, though. We actually made a joke of reccommending this DVD to our friends just so we wouldn't be the only one's who wasted our money. The plotlines were mostly terrible. The story about the boy who cuts off his finger is the worst piece of crap I've ever seen. That one wasn't even funny. Seriously, though, go rent it anyway if you want to laugh. Oh, and sidenote, Rob Zombie should be ashamed for promoting this. Bad Rob!
Nothing We Haven't Seen Before..........2005-02-05
...but with all that's out there, could such a thing actually exist? In my opinion, it's not a matter of whether or not it's been done (which it has), but rather how well it's done.
That said, there is a limit on how many times I can see, read, or hear the same story, and I was way past my limit on the ghost's revenge story before I saw "The Hitch," a film too bad to even laugh at. The actor playing the driver is pretty good, but the actress playing the hitch hiker is attrocious, although in her defense, the writer didn't give her much to work with.
Another one I'd like to pick on is "Shadows of the Dead." The problem here isn't so much that the virus-that-turns-people-into-zombies idea has been done too many times, but that it's a stupid idea to begin with.
My favorite in this batch is "Mr. Eryams," and that's not just because it has a mostly naked young woman rolling around on a bed (although that certainly doesn't hurt). It's a genuinely chilling ghost story. Yes, it is reminicent of "The Sixth Sense" (some of you are going to disagree with me on that, but I'm right, so bring it on), but without the bloated pomposity M. Night Shyamalan's films always seem to have.
"Disturbances" comes in second on my list, even if it is a tad predictable. I also liked "Song of the Dead," which, I must say, isn't scary by any stretch of the imagination, but is entertaining.
I'll surely earn myself some hatred for saying this, but "A Boy and His Finger" is nothing more than a one-note gag taken way too far, and the gag really isn't all that funny.
But even if it were, aren't these supposed to be horror movies?
Fangoria Blood Drive = Potential for all! Hooray! .......2004-09-02
Well, what I mean by that is that there are a few directors on here that have amazing potential and overall I think the Fangoria "Blood Drive" could become an amazing series of dvds to be released each year. Let me break down for you, straight to the point for each story:
The Hitch - Starts off interesting but very unoriginal and silly in it's horrible cliched tale of morality. Horrible acting.
A Boy and his Finger - Cute and clever, works great as a "breather" in between the more scarier short films. Funny yet creepy story about a boy who keeps his finger as a pet.
Inside - This is where things start to get really really good. This short films is really frightening and well done, has incredibly stylish editing and photography. Not very straightforward but that helps the story if anything.
Shadow of the Dead - In my own opinion the best short film on here. Great acting, great effects, amazing sense of atmosphere and did I mention it actually scared me? A strange take on a zombie-ridden world that is completely devoid of silliness and campiness.
Mr. Eryams - This one is good as well but moreso for acting and dialogue. Pretty stylish and the colours are reminiscent of "Suspiria" but overall doesn't compete with the past two entries.
Disturbance - Again, somewhat interesting and stylish piece with no dialogue but does not stand up in comparison the last three entries.
Song of the Dead - Shortest one of them all, funny and tongue-in-the-cheek, but please we've all seen a musical/horror film, it's been done. Back to the drawing board chaps.
Overall, it's worth getting this dvd just for the middle three films. Especially if you are a HUGE horror fan like myself and you want to get into filmmaking becaues it gives you an idea of what you can do with a low budget. This is great and I hope they come out with better ones each other!
Not bad.......2004-09-01
Well, not bad for film students. You can tell that all of these people put a lot of effort into their films with varying results. However, filmmaking is not the Special Olympics, and I can't see any justification in a price over 10 dollars since god knows StarLog/Fangoria isn't paying anybody one red cent in royalties. I also think this DVD was a little bit mis-billed. Rob Zombie's only appearant involvement was to show up in the DVD menus for about 60 seconds of blurb-level "ignore the man behind the curtain" discourse. Some of the special features were actually interesting, but again not sufficient compensation in consideration of the price.
Not bad, but then not particularly good, either.
