1 out of 5 stars Gross Character -- don't waste your $$$.......2006-05-03

There is an extremely unattractive Voyeur character throughout this film. His character is SO unattractive and takes up SO much of the film time, and distracts SO much from the action (not one vignette with lovely ladies does NOT include him at some point mid-action), I was confused that anyone could give this film a positive review.

3 out of 5 stars Misty Mundae.......2005-12-30

Now I'm a big fan of Misty Mundae but I can safetly say that I've seen better performances come out of her movies. Maybe it is because its all soft core porn. But I have to say that if you want sex and all sex in this movie your in luck but if your like me and want some kind of plot line no matter how tiny I wouldn't reccomend it.

3 out of 5 stars if you don't care about a story it's Ok.......2005-11-20

like all low budget softcore, and I mean SOFTcore, it had a really lame story; but who eares about the story, that's not why I saw it. I think that's the difference between softcore, and hardcore videos. In hardcore you have more complete sex scenes, but NO STORY. in my old age, 38,I find that I want SOME kind of story. As far as the sex, it's all girl, which I like; there is the first girl who gives a great solo scene, that leads into the best part of the movie, in my opinion, a part where some woman is instructing two teen girls; obviously not really teens, about lesbian sex. She has a girl remove her top and asks the other girl if she likes what she sees. The other girl gives a good acting scene and nervously says yes. Then the woman who's taking care of these girls gets them to kiss and fondle each other and it's a good erotic scene. Misty Mundae, who is the star, has no sex ecene and is disappointing.
I think this movie has good potential, but it is more like a rated R film.

3 out of 5 stars Pleasure to watch..........2005-07-25

You don't watch a Seduction Cinema movie for it's direction, filming or storyline, you watch them for beautiful naked girls, playing with themselves or with each others..and this is no exception...2 features on 2 sided DVD with many bonus features. The first one 45 minutes features the beautifull Misty...slow paced, quiet and hardly any dialoge, you feel you're sitting in the same room and just enjoy watching..
More kissing and playing in the second 1 hour feature, beautifull bodies...
For that price, it's well worth it..really a pleasure to watch these girsl...

Beyond being Jess Franco's masterpiece, Vampyros Lesbos is a highpoint of the lesbian vampire film genre. Like Daughters of Darkness, The Vampire Lovers, and the New Wave vampire film, The Hunger, Vampyros features an extremely hot vampire, Countess Nadina Carody (Soledad Miranda), who dances at strip clubs in her spare time. In a brutally sexy opening scene, Miranda hypnotically seduces audience member Linda Westinghouse (Ewa Strömberg), calling her to her castle in Anatolia, on business from which Westinghouse never returns. Linda's boyfriend, Omar (Andrés Monales), eventually finds Linda institutionalized, cared for by one Dr. Seward. The characters in Vampyros Lesbos are foils for the cast of Bram Stoker's Dracula, in radical opposition to the traditional, clichéd horror film stereotypes. Psychedelic moments, like when Linda is seduced by the Queen of the Night, recall the grainy, erotic scenes of Jean Rollin's Requiem Pour Un Vampire, and Le Frisson Des Vampires. To dwell on the convoluted plot is clearly missing the point. With arguably the best horror movie soundtrack every released, Vampyros Lesbos revels in the sultry aspects of vampirism, resulting in long, romantic sequences of nude women playing in ocean waves, lying on chaise lounges, and making out in bed. Franco's other films, like She Killed in Ecstasy and Venus in Furs, serve as sequels, so see this first. In fact, see this film period. --Trinie Dalton

Description

The sexy Nadina, a vampire with an insatiable thirst for female blood, lures women to her isolated island to love--then kill--her victims. Recently resurfacing as a cult classic after over 25 years, Jess Franco's "Vampyros Lesbos" has re-started a dance craze phenomenon across the globe with its amazing musical score, recently heard in Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown."

2 out of 5 stars my first lesbian vampire film.......2006-07-05

My first lesbian vampire film turned out to be a great film to play while I'm cleaning the house. It is also a nice film to play if you need to get to sleep. The lesbian action and background music is "groovy", but I wish I would have rented it instead.

1 out of 5 stars I don't think so.......2005-11-09

I first got this movie because of the title; Vampyros LESBOS. I was like ALRIGHT, I'm a guy and I like to see lesbians having sex; not because of any other reason than I don't want to see naked guys.
I knew I would have to use subtitles on this, so what? The movie was stupid, acctually stupid makes it sound better than it is.
There were vapires in the bright daylight; Ok, that wasn't so bed, but they were drinking stuff that looked like Kool-Aid and saying it was blood. The few fight sciens that are in the movie are poorly done; I could do a better fight sciene.
The lesbian sex sciense were so bad that I think I could make a better one; and I'm a guy.
I feel that I wasted my $19.00

1 out of 5 stars Don't fall prey to the hype.......2005-03-26

This movie is a great example of how a bad film becomes tagged with the "cult classic" label. I think that this happened because when it came out in 1970 it was kind of risque, kind of psychedelic, and kind of cool in a trippy, arthouse hippy way. In 1970. But it's 2005 now, and this kind of film, and the school of film making that this came out of is unbearable to our changed sensibilities. People probably were impressed with the gorgeous Soledad Miranda - totally understandable. With her beauty being the only exception, the rest of this movie is extremely poorly done.

Other reviewers make comments about the "thin plot" or how this movie is cerebral, or literary. Baloney! There is no plot - things happen and a moment later it's as if what just happened, didn't.

There's an abundance of pans of ships in Istanbul harbor - shots of a scorpion, shots of a kite, blood dripping down a window - all to the effect that you're watching an amateurish cliche-fest.

The much hyped eroticism in this movie is barely there. The actresses seem like they were not at all interested in touching each other. There's lots of long, silent staring at each other, though. I guess to those who may enjoy taking drugs to enhance their movie watching experience, this may seem very "erotic."

I can't convey enough how poor this movie truly is, but here's one example; Nadine's (the vampire) henchman Morpho shoots his gun at two people on the other side of a set of French doors. French doors that have glass panes. The two guys duck for cover. Yet, they have nothing to worry about, as Morpho's bullets don't break the glass. Maybe he was just a really bad shot, or maybe this is a good example of the shoddy film-making.

Don't fall victim to the reviews that praise this as artsy, intellectual cinema. It's not. It's just bad.

2 out of 5 stars What in the heck is this ?? .......2004-10-08

Dont be fooled by reviews that hightly rate this film. The film is very confusing. From an erotic stand point the film is more tease then please. As soon as your into a scene its done or your turned away from it.Left to let your mind wander. From a horror stand point its very confusing. I only gave it 2 stars because the women are very attractive. Trust me folks rent this one.

5 out of 5 stars Very challenging but wonderful.......2004-10-06

Jesus "Jess" Franco is a director that's sort of a secret amongst serious horror film fans. If you're the type of casual fan of the genre who thinks that "Friday the 13th," "Halloween," and "A Nightmare on Elm Street" are the best films the horror industry ever made, you have never heard of Jess Franco. If you think the "Leprechaun" franchise constitutes the apogee of the horror genre, you have never heard of Jess Franco. If you think collecting Wes Craven and John Carpenter films are as far as you need to go to balance out your DVD collection, you have never heard of Jess Franco. I don't mean to give the impression that Franco is the best directorial talent ever seen in the field, because he definitely isn't, but I have found that knowledge about some of this man's films is one of the best ways to distinguish the novices from the veterans. His best known film remains "Vampyros Lesbos," a fascinating take on the age-old vampire legend. This movie isn't for everyone, so look for something milder like "The Blood of Fu Manchu," "Faceless," or "Ilsa, The Wicked Warden" if you wish to adapt to his style by degrees. Whatever you decide to do, Jess Franco might just surprise you.

"Vampyros Lesbos" is an amazing film in ways not initially obvious. The plot is as thin as a communion wafer, and on the surface about as interesting as one. Linda Westinghouse (Ewa Stromberg), a beautiful blonde, heads to Turkey to assist the enigmatic Countess Nadine Carody (Soledad Miranda) clear up some paperwork about an inheritance. That the inheritance has something to do with a Count Dracula never impresses itself on Westinghouse's mind. Weird things start happening shortly after the affable Linda turns up; she starts having strange dreams about Nadine, and her meetings with Carody take on a decidedly sensual subtext. As for the Countess, she spends her free time performing erotic dance routines at a local club. It takes awhile to get around to specific plot points, but when the movie does "Vampyros Lesbos" takes off. We learn that Carody is, of course, an ancient vampire, and we also learn she has designs on the clueless Linda. Recall how nearly every vampire movie you've ever seen has a male bloodsucker preying on women? Well, Franco was one of the few who turned that archaic formula on its head by having a female vampire seek female companionship. Without coming right out and saying it, you do know what I mean, right? Look at the title of the movie again. Yep, you got it.

As the movie progresses, we see Linda rapidly falling under the spell of Countess Carody. The two women spend an inordinate amount of time frolicking together before Linda heads off to an asylum. Her husband Omar (Andres Monales) arrives on the scene and sees what's happening, so he enlists the aid of the asylum's doctors to figure out what his wife is up to. One of the shrinks, Doctor Seward, seems to know more about vampires than any reasonable person should. It turns out that Seward and Carody know each other, but the doctor has had enough of the Countess and tries to destroy her in order to free Linda. Confused? Yeah, you should be. The plot IS convoluted. Jess Franco even shows up in a strange minor role as Memmet, some weird killer that lives in a basement abducting women. But don't worry; the film does make sense as you watch it, and is in fact a fairly dutiful adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel. See if you can match the characters in the movie with the characters in the novel. That ought to help. But "Vampyros Lesbos" differs from Stoker's novel in fundamental ways. Miranda's vampire sunbathes, and religious iconography almost never appears in the film. Even the way to slay a vampire differs from nearly all other film versions of the Dracula legend.

I think the obtuseness of the film, and it can be obtuse when it wants to be, is due to the dreamlike quality of the production. Franco relies heavily on symbolism, hazy cinematography, zoom shots, and the sun blasted atmosphere of Turkey to realize a beautifully complex film. The best aspect of the movie will always be the luscious Soledad Miranda. This is one beautiful woman, and it's quite tragic that she perished in a car accident shortly after production wrapped on this film. I suspect if all vampires looked like the Countess Carody, there would be a rush of male suitors willing to bare their necks at the drop of a hat. Aside from the wondrous Miranda, and the abundant nudity in nearly every scene of the film, the music usually draws many comments. I didn't think the organ heavy psychedelic score was that spectacular, which surprised me because I'm a big fan of organ heavy psychedelic music, but I began losing enthusiasm for it after the same pieces kept playing over and over.

I would like to personally thank Synapse for putting this film out on DVD. The version here is in German with English subtitles, and although the quality looks bad thanks to a lot of jumping around every time a scene changes, that's more the fault of the source material than it is of the company that put this film on disc. Unfortunately, this DVD edition contains only a trailer as an extra. Hopefully, a new edition will contain interviews with Franco and some other much needed goodies. I really liked "Vampyros Lesbos." It's a strange film that intrigues viewers who watch it with the right frame of mind. Don't go into this expecting a bloodbath because you will be disappointed. Instead, look for something more cerebral and you should have a good time.

4 out of 5 stars morality tale - told through ice cold computer early 80's atmosphere.......2005-07-13

I find Invitation To Hell to be a strange and wonderful little flick. I remember the first time I watched it. It really sucked me into that cold, detached, materialistic atmosphere very well. Not like that's a place you want to visit other than with escapism.
And even though it was just Tv movie from 1984, the acting was very good (IMO) Even TV flicks from 20 years ago, carry way better acting than anything you'd see of similar ilk these days. I credit Wes Craven for his excellent directing skills and love of true, effective creepiness. Also credit Joanna Cassidy for an excellent turn as the once decent, well mannered wife. Her morph into a superficial, devious and evil sexpot was really believable and effective. Robert Urich as well. To me he was great as the unintimidated, "simple needs" family man...the rock of good surrounded and tempted by sex, money power and superficial acceptance. These are all the selling points of "The Club", headed by Susan Lucci.

i know this all sounds a bit cheesey and in a lot of ways, it is. But with good acting, an ominous "feeling" and atmosphere running through the picture, some good directing, taut little script, the movie comes off most entertaining.
Even Susan Lucci, I think, did a fine job within her hard to believe role. She came off perfectly seductive, tempting and devoid of goodness. I suppose she's meant to represent the devil. In this case, the Devil in early 80's hair and make up and a really hot red dress (among other interesting outfits)

This flick plays as much a morality tale as it does a TV horror film. Again, it does own that somewhat cheesy TV horror flick dressing. But to me, underneath, lies a pretty cool, thought provoking, fun movie that sticks with you.

*I've always liked the first 70-80% of the film best. All the morality stuff....the family's decent into madness and deeper evil (loved ones losing their souls, etc.) The ending couldn't help but be a bit over-the-top and cheesy. It was 1984 and this was a TV budgeted movie.

**I really liked the whole scene with the dog too...(Urich's character would not fall to Lucci's temptations, but his family does) This "dog scene".....Urich's first dealings with his family after their initiation into The Club. their entrance into "the spring" All that with the dog knowing how they've changed. How we now hate Joanna Cassidy's character for not only taking the family dog the vet to be euthanized, but also for "wanting to watch"...I liked the vet character and his good decision to not let her get away with that. At that point of the movie, we really bond with Urich's goodness

The full frame transfer of this DVD is very good. Colors are strong and images sharp. the sound is clear, somewhat dynamic and dialogue is audible throughout

Nice relase of a memorable little Wes Craven nugget from '84

**One thing. I sure wish these TV movies on DVD would start to include TV SPOTS. i mean, who wouldn't want to see a TV Spot for the "upcoming" Friday Night At The Movies feature. Anyway, that's one thing this DVD is lacking...Special features. No trailer, TV Spots or commentary.

I sure wish the older films (whether A grade or B grade) would get some more respect in the way of special features. I mean, newer films are so loaded with fluff and BS. It's the older films we'd like to see good special features inclusive. Who needs to "look back on" (or see for that matter) Cyote Ugly. Just an example. Or say, any of the bloated but empty CGI flicks. Do we really need special features for those? i don't even need the film, let alone special features! Always containing some fluff piece featurette with a bunch of lame, supposed actors overusing the word "amazing" for a half an hour

the 70's was a true golden age of cinema, in so many ways. And the late 70's into the early 80's was a wonderful, inventive, fun time for horror flicks. We WANT special features for these!

So, "Invitation To Hell" has no special features but it's a worthwhile purchase for those seeking a cool little "morality tale horror film" they could've missed out on back then.

5 out of 5 stars Great Susan Lucci Film .......2005-05-26

Susan Lucci plays a great role as Steaming Springs Country Club's Director. Also in the dvd version in one of the scenes you can definitely see a size chart for offical club wear up to XXL did not see any members with that size mentioned. I highly recommend buying the dvd. The only thing that was missing is the tv trailers and behind the scenes, Surround Sound, Commentary from the cast and crew, and a Closed Captioned Subtitle. The only goof was in the viewscreens of the suite Benign it is supposed to say Being. I wish they made a sequel to the film.

4 out of 5 stars very 84'.......2003-12-22

Great movie, definitely has the Wes Craven vibe. Plenty of stuff to laugh at but still totally watchable. Star studded in a great 80's tv/ b-movie way. Soleil Moon Frye (Punky Brewster),Barret Oliver (D.A.R.Y.L.), Jason Presson (Explorers). Susan Lucci rules as the satanic country club chick. If cheesy 80's flicks are up your alley I totally recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Great if just to see Nicholas Worth.......2003-08-13

Not the best of Wes Cravens horrors but not the worst.

Simple but enjoyable horror yarn that is crude in budget but still interesting and compelling to watch.

Although one of the secondary characters, the film is most noticable for character actor/muscleman Nicholas Worth who plays the musclebound demonic sherrif guardian to the hell gate.

Description

After garnering widespread acclaim with his mini-masterpiece THE HEART OF THE WORLD, red hot cult auteur Guy Maddin (THE SADDEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD) has taken on the world's most adapted horror tale and concocted his most original and ravishingly stylized cinematic creation yet. Beautifully transposing the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's interpretation of Bram Stoker's classic vampire yarn from stage to screen, Maddin has forged a sumptuous, erotically charged feast of dance, drama and silent film techniques. The black-and-white, blood-red-punctured DRACULA: PAGES FROM A VIRGIN'S DIARY is a Gothic grand guignol of the notorious Count and his bodice-ripped victims, fringed with the expressionistic strains of Gustav Mahler.

3 out of 5 stars An oddball concoction: silent film, ballet & music video.......2006-06-10

Here's an oddball DVD for your collection -- a silent Dracuala movie, done artfully in black and white with an Asian Dracula, that is also a music video to the symphonies of Gustav Mahler, a ballet, and a music video. Got all that?

It's a bit hard to tell from watching and listening to this what they had in mind with this piece of art. Produced in Manitoba, of all places, for the Canadian Broadcasting System in 2002, the manifest content is a movie about an Asian Dracula and a group of virgins. This story is told through silent filmmaking in largely arty black & white photography; there are some splashes of color on occasion.

All the while, the visual imagery and occasional on-screen script is cast to the Symphonies Nos. 1 and 2 of Gustav Mahler, his "Titan" and "Resurrection" symphonies. The credits says the music is courtesy of Naxos, the Canada-based low priced label, meaning they are the versions conducted by Michal Halasz and Antonio Wit, respectively.

The soft-grained attacks in both symphonies seem to match the soft focus of the art film. These are not among the best recordings of the music, which is secondary to the film but will be the reason some viewers maintain interest in such unusual fare.

Many of the virgins, as well as the Dracula character, perform ballet throughout the film, giving this movie more the character of an extended music video. The dancing is nice and everyone is very lovely to watch, but I wondered what was going on when they all started dancing every now and again, especially when it followed scenes of angry Van Helsing types in floppy hats driving stakes through the hearts of vampires.

The storytelling is punctuated with repetitive scenes that appear to be clipped from earlier frames and inserted again, and the music is equally discombobulated, as pieces of the scores of the two symphonies play through chronologically, then repeat, then come back again later. The whole thing was somewhat off putting to me, to be honest.

In the final analysis, this is more like a 75-minute music video-dream sequence than ballet, Dracula movie, silent movie or exposition of Mahler symphonies. It is an interesting art film with a dreamy coutenance but I doubt I would ever want to watch this thing repeatedly.

Nor could I stay interested in it for the music, which is pretty bland compared to the better Mahler recordings that are available. I think more electrifying performances of the music, perhaps better edited, would have done more to create prolonged viewer interest.

5 out of 5 stars A must for any true Dracula fan..........2006-04-01

This is the kind of movie that has a limited audience. It's what you'd call "artsy", maybe even "pretentious". It's not exactly a break-out-the-popcorn-and-huddle-on-the-couch movie. I can see why people would think it's overrated.

But I love it. Anyone who loves Bram Stoker's novel--not just the movies--needs to watch this because it is the most faithful adaptation of the book. It's not a perfect adaptation, but it preserves the basic plot which every other Dracula movie has more or less butchered. Most of the text in the movie comes straight from the book.

It also recreates the etheral atmosphere of the old Universal movies but adds very modern cinematography and themes. The best part of this movie is that it is visually gorgeous but not excessive. You'll know that all the sets are made of cardboard, but you won't care. The film itself speeds up and slows down to create drama--one scene resembles the 360 degree bullet shot from The Matrix, except it is a tableaux made up of Dracula, Mina, and Van Helsing. It's simple but still beautiful, unlike the decadance of Francis Ford Coppola's version. And ballet is a perfect medium for expressing the repressed sexuality of the story. The sex is satirized to an extent, too. Mina doesn't understand why Jonathan won't do things with her that he did with Dracula's brides. Van Helsing is kind of a fetishist. Seward and Morris give each other carnal glances at one point. Lucy is a perfect "dumb blonde" and the dancer who plays her is an especially good actress. It also touches on the themes of xenophobia and immigration that previous versions of Dracula usually leave out. It even features Dracula's hairy palm, which has never been done before on film.

If you're more of a fan of the book than the movies, you really should see this. If you want a horror movie, well, this isn't it.

5 out of 5 stars The Epitome Of "Dracula" As High Art.......2005-09-25

I came upon this beautiful and unforgettable retelling of the classic Dracula mythos recently.

This is a film that, though quite exceptional, will not be to the liking of all vampire movie fans. It is the brainchild of quirky filmmaker Guy Maddin. Basically, Maddin has taken the ballet(!) "Dracula," performed by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and translated it to film, amplified and adapted, of course, along lines of his very unique surrealistic aesthetic.

I am a fan of all of the fine arts, but I must acknowledge that ballet is my least favorite of them all. But in Maddin's idiosyncratic production, anything other than the evocative rhythmic movements of the characters would diminish the impact of the movie. In addition, Maddin filmed it in "aged" black-and-white (punctuated, at times, by a vibrant and eye-popping crimson) silent films format with occasional captions. Furthermore, he utilizes many of the almost ancient "special effects" that the silent filming masters employed: vignetting, tinting for emphasizing certain themes, lightning fast shots, at times almost like still photos, etc. His homage to German Expressionism, especially the works of Murnau, Lang, Dreyer, etc., is clearly reflected both in his sets and in the ways in which the characters move about within these. Also, his accompanying soundtrack is derived from Gustav Mahler's 1st and 2nd Symphonies, and, believe it or not, the whole thing works!

Those who are not well-acquainted with the core elements of the Bram Stoker fable may have some difficulty following the unfolding vistas and scenarios that Maddin juxtaposes, at times, seemingly irrespective of time or space. But for Dracula aficionados, this stylistic device should not pose any problems. Following in the finest traditions of Frank Langella's Dracula, Maddin's Dracula (Wei-Qiang Zhang)is extraordinarily erotic and overpowering. Indeed, all of the actors/dancers who protrayed the various characters in the movie skillfully executed their roles with precision and credibility, even though, as is the case with silent filmmaking, the actors are obliged to "over-act" in order to convey the essence of whomever each one is portraying. What is especially captivating about this production is the overshadowing surrealistic, dreamlike feel.

I cannot recommend this film too highly. It would be a 3-thumbs way up, in my opinion, and worth 9 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Sublime Journey Converging in Notions and the Subconscious.......2005-05-30

Movement could be interpreted in the same manner that the symbols of the alphabet are, as a series of letters create a word while a number of words form a sentence. In dance the viewer can observe each separate movement though the combination of a successive number of movements that generate a bigger meaning. The dance ultimately leads the audience on a journey with feelings, adventure, and much more. Through the help of ballet the Canadian auteur Guy Maddin restores Bram Stoker's character Dracula in an artistic mirror image of F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror from 1922 or Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979).

Unlike the previous Murnau and Herzog vampire films Dracula: Pages from a Virgin's Diary has purposely shifted its storyline from a typical chronological order to a tossed jumble. This cinematic mixture generates an unconscious imagery with a surrealistic touch where the audience senses the moments of suspense and alarm. There are also emotions such as deep desire and lust which also emerge through the vivid movements of the dancers that once again bring this tale of the dark prince coming to England. Some might assume that the unorganized pattern of the film would affect the experience in a negative way. However, Maddin skillfully induces this nightmare into a surrealistic concoction that allows for the combination of feelings to trickle down to the audience in an artistic manner.

The sexual element of vampires is kept intact in Maddin's film, as he also continues to develop this taboo ridden theme. The film opens with Lucy (Tara Birtwhistle) dreaming, which is illustrated through a number of bizarre shots that have been edited together that deal with the arrival of Dracula (Wei-Qiang Zhang). This nightmare brings out a contradictory desire that Lucy contemplates while scribbling in her journal, "Why can't they let a woman marry three men?" These three men are Arthur Holmwood (Stephane Leonard), Jack Seward (Matthew Johnson), and Quincy Morris (Keir Knight) who all have been suitors to Lucy. However, due to societal convention she must choose one of the men. Throughout the film the viewers will face several situations that deal with the lustful theme, as the vampire desires more from his victims while Van Helsing (Dave Moroni) tries to stop him.

The film creates the same ambience that silent black and white films did before the time of color and sound films. The music that accompanies the film is by Mahler, which induces additional suspense and anxiety. There are some sounds that have been added to the film that highlights characters and situations in such a manner to points out the importance of the situation. Besides the audio the images have also been manipulated through a wide range of color filters that brings about different moods to the film while picture softness on the edge increases the viewers focus on what is pertinent on the screen. Maddin also playfully uses colors, as he later did in The Saddest Music in the World (2003), by enhancing scenes with the color red where there is blood or strong emotion involved.

Dracula: Pages of a Virgin's Diary offers a sublime artistic journey where Maddin converges distinct notions with the vague subconscious. In the area where these two meet we find a surreal dream world with erotic undertones and threatening elements. The union of erotic and fright causes an unknown cerebral notion that enhances the angst in the story. Together with the movement of the dancers the angst is personified and the audience gets an opportunity to visually feel the internal conflict between all of the characters in the film, which in due course ends with a terrific cinematic experience.

1 out of 5 stars Maddin: way overrated.......2005-04-16

I tried to watch this movie last night. I guess I didn't read the description too close because much to my dismay this is some kind of ballet treatment of Dracula. I cannot stand ballet! I think it's a terrible idea. As soon as lucy started dancing I was outa there! I am not impressed with Maddin's movies or shorts. He is high on visuals(that aren't that good) and low on any story/character development. I think he's incapable of making a good movie.
I recommend seeing Coppola's Dracula or the Hammer ones instead.

5 out of 5 stars The culmination of the Vampire Seduction Trilogy; a sure winner.......2007-05-06

The Sexy Adventures of Van Helsing;is the Culmination of the Seduction Cinema series of Van Helsing's attempts to Kill Dracoola; the daughter of Dracula; which started in the great flick ; Vampire Seduction; and again in Vampire Vixens; In Vampire Seduction, Tina Krause played Dracoola and told Wally Van Helsing to bring her Lesbians,, alot of Lesbians,, Wally never did;all he brought Dracoola was a Garlic sandwich to her demise; then in the sequel: Vampire Vixens; , Wally Van Helsing gives Dracoola played again by Tina Krause, a steak sandwich which again ends her reign of terror seeking Lesbian lovers for her harem of lovers,.. and Finally in The Sexy Adventures of Van Helsing, Wilhelmina Van Helsing the Great Great Granddaughter of the legendary Van Helsing ,, brings 4 lesbian lovers to the lair of Dracoola,, played by the voluptous sexy Vixen, Darian Caine ,,, and in the end gives Dracoola a pepperoni pizza laden with heavy garlic ,, but it only stuns her, because we see her again talking to Wilhelmina's Great uncle Van Helsing, than teases her saying that her curse will be having to be horny throughout eternity,, for being duped by another Van Helsing.

This 3rd part, of the Van Helsing trilogy, which some says is just a rewrite of Vampire Seduction; is better named the 3rd part in the Sequel because Finally a Van Helsing family decendant managed to bring the Lesbians to Countess Dracoola...

This movie is not only erotic and full of sexy beautiful Lesbians that bear all ,,, without inhibition, It also has Misty Mundae in it, and AJ Khan,, it is filled with adult humor,, and I give this movie a 5 Star rating for humor and great Lesbian love scenes,, I highly recommend this movie to any and all fans of Darian Caine , Misty Mundae,, and Seduction cinema erotic movies,, Darian Caine is so Damn Hot in this Movie, Her negligee which is black which she wears in the final sequence is so hot,, very revealing,, Darian Caine can bite my neck or any other part of my body any time she wants, Yea Baby,, Vampire Love,, so,, sweet,,, A+++ Movie all the Way,, I Agree with one of the other reviewers, the world would not be complete without ;"THE SEXY ADVENTURES OF VAN HELSING." and neither would the Van Helsing story either...

good servic bad movie. This wasthe worst VAmp.movie i have ever seen. There was know plot or very little of one .The ending was the chessest i have ever seen .The pun is intended .
The company was great to deal with .The product came quikey.

2 out of 5 stars the movie didn't live up to the name.......2005-10-15

I got it expecting better sex senes than the women hugging and killing.
Don't get me wrong, the whole movie is based on the idea that this desendant of a vampire slayer is a lesbian. that was interesting. The other women in the movie were Ok; I mean they are average pretty women that you'd see at the grocery store, but they are lezbians.
This has the makings of a good movie, but the women never do anything with each other besides kiss, and rub their breasts, legs, and stmacs.
The movie laft me feeling like I got ripped off, but maybe you'll think better about the movie than I did.

5 out of 5 stars I <3 boobs.......2005-10-08

When I think of Van Helsing, I think of BOOBS!!!!! Vampire Boobs!!!! This cinematic triumph comes from the same director as Gladiator Eroticus, and Playmate of the Apes, so when I rented it from my local video store, I knew I was in for something special! There were girls, and they were fighting fighting NAKED! I highly recommend that you watch this film.

THE FACE OF CINEMA WOULD NOT BE THE SAME, WITHOUT THE SEXY ADVENTURES OF VAN HELSING!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars 2 entertaining comedies.......2004-10-26

No, this is not a direct spoof of van helsing with hugh jackman.
This is actually a remake of seduction cinemas late 90's film Vampire Seduction. Both films are featured on the dvd so nobody is left out of the loop. Both films have their own charms. The remake has lovely Erika Smith playing a sexually confused nerd, who is visited by her dead uncle to kill countess dracula. The production value is low budget but still decent enough to watch.
The original has John P. fedele in the van helsing roll acting as a total goofball. His performance is the saving grace of the film. The no budget production hinders the film, but still gives it a sense of astheitic identity.

There's also some cool features like behind the scenes documentary, deleted scenes, and commentary from EI president Michael Raso which at some times sounds like a confessional.

Lina Romay stars as a nymphomaniac starlet who enlists the help of her chauffeur (Erik Falk) in picking up men and women for intimate encounters. And when there is no one to pick up??? Well, then she has her way with her chauffeur or herself for that matter...

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Worthy of your collection-Adults only.......2007-06-30

Lina Romay is an actress who for the love of her art, isnt afraid to do what's right for the part. Normally, in a movie like this, she'd use another name like Candy Coster.
Basic premise is this. I'm rich. I'm bored. I'm sexually starved. What do women in this role do? Well, when self love doesn't do the trick, they go looking for adventure. Having racey photos of yourself is fine after a little barber work, but let's go get some men.
There is a LOT of self love, plenty of male & female full nudity, simulated sex (like what you'd see on late night cable, only not as pretty production wise), some oral sex-male & female, lesbianism, straight sex (again simualted even tho she does hardcore in other flicks), cruising for hook-ups & cheap sets (apart from the car & the house which you really only see from the outside). If you're a Lina fan, then of course you need to get this. If you've seen mentions of her before & are curious, again get this. It's available in 3 languages (all on the same disc) with some trailers as a bonus. I'd been looking for this for awhile & finally able to get it. Glad I did.

3 out of 5 stars another swell flick.......2006-02-23

This is another 3rd party movie from ei cinema. It has a good look to it, though it has some technical flaws. I very much liked the comentary that Mike Raso did, which as before was just a long apology for how this movie falls short of what he really wanted. I also too enjoyed that we got the dubbed version and the "raw" version with all the flaws to it so we could see how it was that they cleaned it up. As for the movie the gals in the production were very nice, the acting was adequate, the plot itself is acually very well thought out. The problem is in bringing this thought to the screen. Far be it from me to criticize a movie made for eye candy but the exposition just wasn't enough. Perhaps its the use of flashbacks to explain a story that irritates me, over all I would say I'd rather sacrifice a few minutes of the eye candy to get the plot moving. Also the fangs were laughable, even for this budgeted of a film.

3 out of 5 stars Just an ok movie........2005-09-09

I did not find this movie to be much different that the 100's of other ones like it.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2005-05-05

WOW!
I was getting a little worried about the recent rather un-erotic movies by Seduction Cinema since it apparently changed owners. But with G-String Vampire they produced the most erotic film since The Witches of Sappho Salon. NEver mind the title that would make you think that this is one of those silly comedies. But this movie doesn't cheapen its eroticism, on the contrary it takes itself seriously. Most of the girls are beautiful with great bodies, but most importantly, they give it their all. The story involves a lesbian master vampire attacking a strip-club and the sole survivor on the run trying to get to safety thanks to vampire headquarters, so to speak. The story is told in 2-minute dialogue snippets interdispersed thru love scenes among girls. The production values are outstanding and the story quite intriguing and elaborate. But it's the girls who make this movie so great. Lots of fresh faces (no Misty Mundae-finally!) who are not a bit reluctant to have some serious fun with other girls.
Some constructive criticism: like recent b-movies with somewhat of a budget, the producers opted to re-record everything. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work too well unless you have a huge budget, the right equipment, and actors who have been doing that for long time. Even though the love-scenes are very hot, I get the impression that the best was left on the editing room floor. The cameraman suffers from restless-leg syndrome not being able to stay on a frame for more than a second. Not onyl that but in typical Penthouse/Playboy fashion often moves away from the action. The editor doesn't help with the quick editing and cutting shots just as things are getting interesting. Unfortunately enough, the more attractive girls get secondary roles, while 2 of the main actresses aren't that pretty. Still the final product is spectacular, I give this movie 10/10. Can't wait to see more from this team!
The DVD has plenty of extras (it even has a bonus film!), so many that it couldn't fit a scene index. If you like hot girl-girl action, you can't go wrong with G-String Vampire.

3 out of 5 stars Not as much ecstasy as I was anticipating.......2005-09-26

This German film, which was actually released in 1973, would seem to offer fans of erotic horror a nice little treat. Perhaps it did at the time of its release, but the whole thing comes across as rather bland these days, and this resulted in a little disappointment for this viewer. The storyline itself also has some virtues to it, but the film's rather sparse elaboration of what is actually going on combined with its actors'/actresses' sometimes hard-to-understand English accents keep it from realizing its true potential. The plot revolves around the infamous Baroness Danielle Vaga, an infamous German aristocrat who cut a bloody swath through the pages of mediaeval history, taking delight in impaling many a victim and reportedly drinking her victims' blood. Strangely enough, the local villagers look upon her as a vampire and eventually burn her at the stake. Unfortunately, they forgot to thrust a "cross of Vaga" (actually, I could never really understand the word associated with the cross, so I'm just guessing it was "Vaga") through her heart. Thus, the Baroness swears she will return some day.

It just so happens that a few ladies have been invited to the old castle, ostensibly to discover which of them is a true ancestor of the Baroness. Only two of these girls really matter (and I might add that these are the only two attractive women in the entire film); the constantly hot and bothered Helga carries the movie, as far as I'm concerned, during certain stretches. You also have a pair of uninvited guests who are looking for help following an automobile accident: this is a female doctor of arcane lore and superstition and her seemingly useless brother. Brother and sister are very close - much too close. With everyone in place, we learn bits and pieces about the Baroness' return, watch half-naked women dance and chant to annoying drum music, and meet with only mild erotica on our way to a finish I found disappointing.

There is no gore to speak of, the erotic horror claims are highly exaggerated, all but two of the characters are either unimportant or unlikable, and there is nothing the least bit disturbing or frightening about the castle environment. Despite these facts, the movie actually holds together pretty well - if you can figure out the vague and hard to comprehend dialogue that tries to explain the point of the whole story. One should be aware that this film has also appeared under the titles The Devil's Plaything, Revenge of the Black Sisters, and Veil of Blood. I wouldn't go to the trouble of searching for a copy of the film, but it's worth watching.

I thought I will see a movie ..be it sex .. bloody .. cult .. SOMETHING .. but this DVD provides NOTHING .. absolutely NOTHING .. the acting is worse than the plot if there is a plot at all. Worst of all there is NO sex whatsoever ..
Don't waste your time or money ..buy chocolate instead !

3 out of 5 stars Well...........2005-11-29

To say this movies has no plot is an understatement. It's so confusing, I just have no idea. But as far as the sex goes there are a couple of good scences. Including the masturbation scene with Andrea Davis and Misty Mundae. This was an excellent scene and worth the price of the movie. I agree with other reviewers that Andrea Davis has a bright future with Seduction Cinema. She's gorgeous and is very erotic. Tough not to be drawn in by her. Check it out.

3 out of 5 stars Lust for Misty Mundae?.......2005-04-02

Forget whatever it says on the box, there really is no discernable plot in this movie. It does contain a number of vivid scenes, which unfold like a series of dream sequences with little or nothing really tying them together. If you are already a fan of Seduction Cinema then this film won't disappoint you. On the other hand, if you don't know what I'm talking about, their movies are pornographic lesbian love fests thinly disguised as horror or action movies. These movies are certainly not for everyone as it often seems that they just go from one lesbo porno scene to another. Playmate of the Apes is still their best movie but this movie also has some great scenes, music, and atmosphere. The girls are all in such great physical shape that I wonder if when they're in between making these movies they all have day jobs, so to speak, in some strip club in New Jersey or somewhere. Misty Mundae says in the interview that the director kept telling her to act as crazy as she can, which she certainly did. Her character is so flaky that she believes herself to be married to Julian Welles, who she mistakenly believes to be a man. Can you believe that? If that isn't bizarre enough for you, Darien Caine claims to be Dracula as she runs around Misty's house in the nude. The dialogue between them was nothing if not bizarre and was way over my head. There is also a scene where Misty sings a lullaby to a doll or something, which she keeps in a crib in the attic. I suppose that there is some kind of philosophical meaning in the nursery rhyme but who really cares about that? Misty also mentioned in the interview that she misses her boyfriend, which was interesting because she always plays a lesbian in these movies. You can count me as a Misty Mundae fan, but in this movie I actually preferred the scenes with Andrea Davis and another teenage girl vampire. I found their scenes together to be mesmerizing. My favorite part was when Andrea looked right into the camera and smiled at me. I also loved the scenes where they were dressed as Catholic school girls who then undressed themselves. I agree with other reviewers that Andrea Davis has real potential in these kinds of movies. The subplot where vampire Andrea lusts for the other girl and makes her into her possession would have made a great little movie all on its own, sort of like the recurring plot of the Subspecies series, except with girls as both predator and prey.

3 out of 5 stars Not all that bad for a film that doesn't make any sense.......2005-02-05

I have seen a lot of Seduction Cinema films, but never before have I found myself wondering if one of them somehow went over my head. There have been plenty of Seduction Cinema films that made no sense - but that was always because they were just really stupid. Lust For Dracula isn't stupid - but it makes almost no sense whatsoever. It's like watching some kind of experimental, artsy film school production. If you don't read the summary on the back of the DVD case, I guarantee you won't have a clue about what this film is supposed to be about. I couldn't wait for this movie to be released, as it was described early on as a reinvisioning of Dracula - with lesbians. And, of course, it stars Misty Mundae, and I've never kept secret my fascination and borderline obsession with alternative cinema's reigning starlet. I must tell you, though, that the film was in many ways a disappointment.

I'm not saying this is an altogether bad film, though; there are in fact several positive aspects of Lust For Dracula. The script, unfortunately, is not one of them. The biggest problem, to me, is the director's failure to really identify and define his characters. When you have a woman married to a woman she believes to be a man, you really need to be clear about what you're attempting to do story-wise. Misty Mundae plays Mina Harker; she is married to Jonathan Harker, who is played by Julian Wells. Now, I've always thought there is a little too much of a masculine quality to Julian Wells, but clearly she is not in fact a man. Mina hasn't figured it out yet, though; there are two main reasons for this: Jonathan pretty much keeps her drugged all the time and, in addition to and largely because of that fact, Mina is as loopy as - well, something with a heck of a lot of loops. Then Dracula comes into Mina's life, and Dracula gives Mina the one thing she wants most (and the one thing Jonathan could never give her) - a child. Uh, but Dracula is also a woman (Darian Caine). Somebody bring me an abacus because something just isn't adding up here. You also have Mina's sister Abigail Van Helsing who supposedly wants to destroy Dracula (although nothing about her character is made clear - or even gauzily opaque - in the film itself). While all of this crazy stuff is going on, you also have this pair of vampire lovers taking up a lot of film time for no apparent reason - until the end, when everything comes together (which is not to say everything is explained or makes a lick of sense).

The photography of the film is actually well-nigh gorgeous; for a Seduction Cinema film, the production values are unmatched. Then there is Misty, whom director Tony Marsiglia credits with saving the film in several different ways, proving himself to be a master of the understatement. Misty has never had a role quite like that of Mina, and early on it is difficult to tell whether she is horrible or unbelievably good. One early scene in particular, in which she reads a children's story with great animation to an empty cradle, is difficult to watch because she is just so out there in left field with what she does. In retrospect, though, I think Misty was bloody brilliant in that scene - and throughout the rest of the film. Marsiglia directed her to be weird beyond her own imagination, and Misty delivers. It's not her fault the film itself doesn't make any sense.

For me, though, the real bright spot of Lust For Dracula is the performance by Andrea Davis. She has a unique look and style that could easily, in my opinion, make her Seduction Cinema's next major star. She has had small parts in other films, including Dr. Jekyll and Mistress Hyde, but this young lady deserves a starring role in a film - and soon.

I'm not exactly sure how much a pile of beans is worth, but I am pretty sure it's more than the plot of this film is worth. Still, I think Lust for Dracula is worth buying simply for the performances by Misty Mundae and Andrea Davis. You'll want to make sure which version of the film you want, though - and it can be hard to tell the difference between the two in the listings. The DVD with ASIN B0002TT0KU is the director's cut - this is what you want because it has the complete film along with extras you may not find on the R rated version (a commentary by director Tony Marsiglia and producer Michael Raso, a look at the making of the film, an interview with Misty Mundae, and a short film called Insex). In the commentary, I really, really hoped that Marsiglia would make some effort to actually explain what the heck this film was about, but he and Raso (who apparently did almost nothing on this film, despite his producer status) somehow manage to talk about the movie without actually talking about the movie. The R rated version (ASIN B00020HAHO) comes with two short films, Headcheese and Lost Face- if the other two short films are as bad as Insex, it won't matter that you miss out on those with the director's cut.
