Regardless of its critical roasting, Dreamcatcher is a must-see for Stephen King fans. In adapting King's epic novel (itself an amalgam of familiar King plotlines), director Lawrence Kasdan and cowriter William Goldman sacrificed much of the character depth that gave the story its crucial humanity, resulting in a tame frightfest about four longtime friends (Damian Lewis, Jason Lee, Thomas Jane, Timothy Olyphant) whose past--and a shared gift of telepathy--connects them to a present-day alien invasion in the snowy forests of Maine. Like an ambitious episode of The X-Files, this slick production offers slimy "weasels" that gestate in human bowels; ominous aliens who seize control of bodies and minds; a secret military strike (led by Morgan Freeman) against the invaders; and enough gross-out humor to satisfy jaded horror buffs. Unfortunately, it just isn't scary. Despite its A-list advantages, Dreamcatcher works best as a glorified B-movie, likely to benefit from lowered expectations. --Jeff Shannon
Description
Four young friends perform a heroic act and are changed forever by the uncanny powers they gain in return. Years later, on a hunting trip in the Maine woods, they are overtaken by a blizzard, a vicious storm in which something much more ominous moves. Challenged to stop a deadly alien force, they confront an unparalleled horror, with the fate of the world in the balance.

READ THE BOOK FIRST!!!.......2007-06-29
I just finished the book and I would give it 4+ stars. If you don't read the book you could be lost wondering what in the hell is going on during the movie. The movie was entertaining but fell way short of what it could have been. If your looking for a great movie look else where. If you looking for a little fun and entertainment I would recommend this movie. Read the book first though.
Disappointing.......2007-04-03
This movie could have been so much better. It started out fairly well but just didn't hold together after the initial introduction. The movie lost me completely in the bathroom scene. You've got a monster trapped in the toilet, but that toothpick on the floor is out of your reach, and you need it so badly that you let the monster out to get it? You have to ask yourself, "What's WRONG with this person?"
Morgan Freeman's performance in this movie was also a big disappointment. He's such a talented actor, but here he seems to be just going through the motions. His character just falls flat. And as noted in an earlier review, the hair and eyebrows make him look silly and cartoonish.
No big surprises in the final battle sequence. You pretty much know by this point who the two sides are going to be. But that last little bit after the fight - whose idea was that? I just wanted to shout at the television, "What? NO! That CAN'T be the end!" What a let-down.
A stupid movie.......2007-03-26
I don't like it. The story sounds unoriginal. I saw the summary to the book (which I have not read and never will), and I can say that it is one of King's worst ideas. The movie's plot is worse. I advise you to stay away and never watch this crap.
Dreamcatcher - the movie.......2007-03-11
Seems to chop up the story from the Stephen King novel it is based off of, but don't they always? Four friends who were bonded at childhood by a special friend who called himself "Duddits" go to an annual cabin for a hunting and camping excursion. Suddenly animals in the forest are running for their lives, and a hunter making strange sounds has come to their camp. Rick McCarthy seems to be ill, but this guy and his belching is the least of their concerns. A destiny is revealed, as Duddits link to the realization of an alien force is about to come true. Snowy Mountains and psychological wars will be waged, and Morgan Freeman plays the captain of a specialized yet somewhat rogue military force that has overtaken the entire area. There is a lot going on so pay attention, because you might miss the entire point. The film doesn't do a great job of showing Duddits ultimate connection with everything, but it works okay. Tom Sizemore also stars as Owen, a member of the military group who realizes that one of the captured hunters (played by Thomas Jane) seems to be able to read his mind, and also seems to be showing him that his commander is out of control. The entire human race hangs in the balance! Gory weasel like creatures and of course, Aliens with BIG eyes abound. Jason Lee and Timothy Olyphant also star. Entertaining Science Fiction type movie that is kind of fun.
This is Destiny that goes DEEP!.......2007-01-05
I watched this flick years ago and recently purchased it-I loved it even more this time. Watch the alternate ending-both have deep meanings but I think the director's picked the best in the original release! If anyone doesn't get the meaning behind the plot-they need to watch it again-it helped me understand that the boys bonded for life by a (chanced?)single event...Destiny.

Good price for 3 decent Stephen King films. One catch: DREAMCATCHER is not in Widescreen so I will have to purchase a Widescreen version other than that I shall enjoy this set for years to come.

Description
Danger dead ahead! Dark Castle - makers of the updated House of Wax and House on Haunted Hill - invites you to take a cruise on Ghost Ship [Side A]. Julianna Margulies, Gabriel Byrne and Isaiah Washington are aboard a mysteriously adrift luxury liner hexed by a seafaring collector of souls. "It may just scare the pants off of you" (John Monaghan, Detroit Free Press). Next, Morgan Freeman is a shoot-first, shoot-again alien hunter in a chiller-thriller "among the best Stephen King adaptations ever made" (Mark S. Allen, UPN TV). Eerie spacelings invade Earth, and it may take more than firepower to stop them - it may take the psychic powers of a group of long-time friends. Lawrence Kasdan directs, and Jason Lee and Donnie Wahlberg join the ensemble cast of Dreamcatcher [Side B]. Shriek dreams!

DO NOT BUY THIS TRIPE.......2007-03-02
As the other reviewer said, neither one of these movies is all that bad (I quite enjoyed them both) but Warner Brothers has become a bunch of liars as of late. The back of the box CLEARLY states these are WIDESCREEN and the movies are NOT widescreen at all. They are presented in crappy full frame and had they been marked correctly on the packaging I would have saved my hard earned money.
Sad.......2007-01-15
Both of these movies are good, however, I was very dissapointed that the back cover lists both in Widescreen when they are actually presented in full-screen.
The return of old fashion horror.......2006-11-09
Both of these movies are alot of fun. They have some really good special effects. Dreamcatcher is like the old monster movies of the fifties but a little more graphic. Based on work by Stephen King this was a hoot to watch. There are some plot holess and plot threads that never really develop, but this is not rocket science.
Ghost Ship is a little more formulaic but still fun to see. It does use all the rules of horror films which make the action predictable. Still it is fun. Some really good effects especially in the opening sequence.
These are fun to watch so go ahead and get them.
