This is one of Paul Naschy's better movies thats out there today. Very good film with decent story and Paul Naschy as a werewolf..you cant beat that. If you like cheese in horror this is truly the one to be added to your collection. A true werewolf classic..recommended!!

"CURSE OF THE DEVIL" is a lusty old time spanish werewolf classic! Any real true horror movie fan can appreciate these kind of timeless but out-dated cheesey gems. Perfect for a cold rainy day!

Naschy does it again!.......2004-08-25

You can say what you will about these types of films, but you must admit that Naschy's passion for them, and his werewolf character Waldemar Daminsky, are astounding. He truly loves this genre and it shows. He brings the tragic and romantic elements of horror to his werewolf films and he gives passionate performances that make these movies great fun. I've enjoyed many of Mr Naschy's films and Curse of the Devil is no exception. Love it!

A TRUE MASTER OF MACABRE CINEMA.......2004-08-19

I've always enjoyed Pual Naschy's work. He's especially good as a werewolf and has been playing that character since 1968 in close to a dozen films. I was eager to see this movie and then I read the reviews on here. One person said this movie had "mindless nudity, sex, cheesy werewolf make up etc." and then I was REALLY eager to see it! I got my grubby little hands on it and popped it in the DVD player and settled back and hit play and WOW! This is a fun movie and a great DVD! The picture quality is superb and there are tons of great extras. The promised "mindless nudity, sex, cheesy werewolf make up etc." are indeed all there too! Naschy gives another wonderful performance and the picture quality of this DVD is far superior to all the poor prints we've been forced to endure in the past. Naschy has established himself as a master of macabre cinema and the high quality presentation of this DVD is a great tribute to the man and a true treat for his fans.

Once you get past the obvious setbacks of the film: an unconvincing lead, very bad make-up, horribly choreographed violence, and a pretty [weak]ending--there is some enjoyment to be had from Curse of the Devil. To begin with, the story is actually pretty involving and the plot has some tricky forks in it at times. The idea is very good: an arrogant hero pays for that arrogance through a satanic curse, which seemingly is unbeatable. Unfortunately, you have to make the mother of all suspensions of belief to deal with the actual werewolf. Naschy just wasn't suited (bad pun!) for the job. When you do have close-ups of the creature, there just isn't any menace conveyed-merely a frozen make-up expression. When he attacks, it is almost comedic as, for most of the film, he quickly runs on screen and then off before the viewer has a chance to even register what has happened. The opening sequence, if you're able to not laugh at what must be one of the lamest swordfight scenes ever filmed, is kinda cool with the way the pink tint conveys an otherworldly and othertimely atmosphere. The gypsies in the beginning are very convincing in their vengeful rage. All in all, it's not a bad movie. There just aren't that many werewolf movies out there, so Curse of the Devil will come as a happy expansion on what you are already familiar with concerning werewolves of the screen.

I THINK THIS MOVIE IS GOOD AND IS FROM ONE OF MY FAVORITE GERMAN DIRECTOR OLAF ITTENBACH THE DIRECTOR OF PREMUTOS , LEGION OF THE DEAD ,THE BURNING MOON WE ARE TALKING ABOUT GORE AND FUN.IN THIS MOVIE YOU CAN SEE THE GORE WAS CUT , THERE IS MORE GORE THAN THAT ,THEY SHOULD COME WITH A UNCUT VERSION OF IT.JUST BUY IT OR RENT IT.

Not great, but good.......2007-06-04

Photographed well, this story kept my attention. Some of the actors weren't up to standard, like the over acting of the gun happy convict, but when the real terror takes place at the cabin, the real fun begins. The language of the cabin dwellers is interesting.

It does have alot of gore in it, but it fits into the overall theme and flow of the movie. I reccommend it for fans of Evil Dead and the like.

House of Colonial looking Bible fearing Possessed Vampire People.......2007-04-24

House of blood is like a mixture of movies like Con-air,The Village,Evil Dead,The Exorcist, and a Vampire movie. A convict bus crashes and the convicts clip the guards(con-air) and escape. Lead by a ruthless trigger happy loud mouth convict, the convicts head off into the woods going north as to go to Canada. Among the convicts is a doctor who is endlessly butting heads with the loud mouth convict leader. Eventually they all wonder far enough into the woods and stumble upon a old english looking manor house. Inside the house they find the folk who dwell within the house. The folk (The Village)dress like colonial and speak biblical language (thy shalt leave ith thou place of livith, blah, blah, blah)or like their in a ren fair. Soon enough the convicts realize that the control they had on the holy rollers has turned around when the colonial bible people turn into (The Exorcist)evil possessed creatures after chanting. The make up work on the demonized people look a lot like the possessed people that where in the movie "Evil Dead". The demon people are really Vampires! They can't die. One was smashed in the face with a steel mallet only to have its face turn back to normal and get back up again and kill. Bullets have no effect on them either. The violence and gore get pretty good at this point. The Vampires ripped and shredded through the convicts till only the doctor remains. The Doctor has a connection with one of the colonial bible possessed vampire people. You have to watch and see what that connection is. To make a long story short, the Dr. was caught in the woods by the SWAT unit and police who can't seem to find the mysterious vampire manor after the Dr. told his story of what happened. The good Dr. is then sent back on a convict bus with other convicts to transport back to Seattle when.......... the bus crashes and deja-vu all over again but with a dif group of convicts which, yes, end up back to the same Vampire manor house again with pretty much the same results starting again but with a dif ending this time, an ending you'll have to see when ya rent it.

some people will give this film 2 stars.i give it three because i loved the make up effects and im a horror fan. even though it has sceens of being repeted its a good film to watch if you like low budget films.

GOOD OLD OLAF- DELIVERING THE GORE-.......2007-03-03

Olaf Ittenbach is a GORE director- Now don't let this put you off- His directing skills are more impressive than most directors in the genre (Andreas Snaas, Timo Rose etc)-
Look out for some TERRIBLEover acting from the 'first' lead baddie- it's hilarious- and his brother- (with a different accent!?) excellent stuff!
This film has a twisting plot involving shape shifting demon god worshippers (yes i was confused too?)
The story revoles around a doctor in the wrong place at the wrong time- over and over again (hence the 'Chain reaction - original title)
Weak parts are the vague storyline link between the womanm at the house in the woods (with demons) and the Doctor- bit pointless and adds nothing to the story-
But the gore is excellent as you'd expect from Olaf (FX artist on many a gore independant film)
But i would look out for the uncut version as the R rated U.s one only has the gore on screen for a short time- (unlike the excellent "Beyond the Limits- Olaf's best to date- directing wise)
If you enjoy your gore then this is for you.

Seven travelers stranded in the Italian countryside accept the hospitality of a kindly castle lord, but what horror awaits them: the family has a curse on it that dooms the eldest daughter of each generation to become an agent of the devil, and guess who's coming home. After a striking opening scene (involving a Nazi officer in 1944 overseeing the birth of his child, which turns out to be... an accursed daughter!), this horror tale drags along at a glacial pace until the visitors settle in enough to take a little time out for sex, which serves as an appetizer to sadistic murders. The guests, ostensibly representative of the Seven Deadly Sins, die in appropriately thematic twists at first, though after gluttony, greed, and lust the point gets stretched. This low-budget example of horrotica has its entertaining moments, an appropriately lurid style (courtesy of Belgian director Jean Brismee), and even an appearance by former French matinee idol Jean Servais (Beauty and the Beast). Included are trailers for this and three other Italian exploitation films and an extended introduction by British horror hostess Eileen Daly (which was actually recorded for a different film!), a black-leather Elvira with a whip and a penchant for kink that may not be to the tastes of all audiences. -Sean Axmaker
