Hmmm. Again im the opposite of everyone else.........2007-03-30
Okay, Ginger Snaps one has become one of my all time favorite horror films. I loved the first one,but I dont understand how people can say the sequel is just as good as the first. I had some problems with this movie. First, there were some plot holes actually there was alot of plot holes (who the hell was the wolf chasing her? Was it Sam from the first Ginger Snaps?). But my biggest problem was, im not even sure.It was boring and not that interesting. We dont even get to see Bridgette cause mayhem as a wolf.Ghost is really annoying to watch in the film and well i just didnt like this one. I dont understand what people loved aboput this film. The only thing that kept me interested was the fact that its Bridgett and actually Ginger Snaps.I love the sisters characters. But this film just wasnt all that good at all. I still yet have to watch "The Beginning",and since its much more expensive hopefully its better.
I can't be like this!.......2007-01-06
This is one of the only movies (along with "Final Destination 2") where the sequel was just as good as the original. "Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed" is an awesome film for anyone interested in the occult, or anyone just looking for an original and great film. You can watch this one without seeing "Ginger Snaps," because what happened in the first film is explained in this one, but I sugest watching "Ginger Snaps" first because you will be introduced to Ginger (my favorite!!) and you will know more about the sisters and the plot. The only let down of this movie is that there isn't enough Ginger, which is understandable seeing that she died in the first film. Overall, this as an AMAZING film and in my eyes, it's just as good as the first. BUY IT!!!
Ginger Snaps 2 - Unleashed.......2006-07-29
I loved this flick! It is all a sequel should be, a continuation of the original idea, not simply a re-hash of the plot from the first. Emily Perkins is gorgeous----even in the make-up characterizing her slow transformation into what Ginger became in the first flick. Ghost is a great addition, and of course, the beautiful Katarine Isabelle as the snotty Ginger, this time playing the part of Bridgette's unseen concience, (or lack there of). I think it's a terrific little movie! A slew of dead bodies, 15 gallons of blood, one "ghost", one "Ghost", heavy plot twist, Laundry room Fu, Werewolf Fu, Shotgun Fu, 4 STARS!
"They're not superheroes, Ghost.".......2006-05-27
This is the sequel to the cult favorite Ginger Snaps, and picks up the story with Brigitte (Emily Perkins), living in a seedy motel, after killing her werewolf sister and the destruction her family. Now Wolf's Bane injections are all that are keeping her from her own transformation and another werewolf that is biding its time until it can mate haunts her. A sudden confrontation throws Brigitte out on the street right after an injection and she is taken for an addict and placed in an eerie clinic that has more than an accidental resemblance to One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.
Trapped without the Wolf's Bane, the change draws ever nearer. Her only source is a guard (Eric Johnson) who trades the inmates drugs for sex. And her only friend is Ghost a young girl (Tatiana Maslany) of dubious sanity. When Ghost manages to help Brigitte escape the level of horror rapidly escalates as Brigitte must deal with humans who are every bit as depraved as the creature that is hunting her.
Ginger Snaps: Released lacks the twisted humor of the original film. Instead, it presents a bleak and edgy vision that never relents. Brigitte struggles to remain human in a world where being human doesn't amount to much. In many ways, the werewolf is saner than its victims, living true to its nature instead of making any pretensions at normalcy. This is a scary film because the viewer never really knows who is the monster and who is the victim.
Brett Sullivan replicates the film style of the original, only even darker. Odd angles and scene setting that is deliberately amateurish. There's no attempt at glitz here. The wolves are ugly, malformed creatures, and even the characters have a gritty surface. The film lacks the power of Ginger Snaps, with its sudden about face from sarcastic comedy to tragic horror, but it is still a striking effort at reinventing the horror genre as something genuinely horrible. Be warned, this film will make a lot more sense if you've checked out the original.
Werewolf Movie.......2006-03-15
Continuance of the Ginger Snaps first film. Another good flick for halloween viewing because it's nice and bloody.

Why Did So Many People Love This Film So Much?.......2007-06-03
Okay,im gonna get straight to my tagline for this. The first original GINGER SNAPS is definitely the only good one off the trilogy.GINGER SNAPS BACK UNLEASED I thought was pretty weak and weird.GINGER SNAPS THE BEGINNING is just very odd and doesnt really make up with logic.Obviously this isnt Ginger and Bridgett from the other 2 films but they just happen to have the same name, look exactly the same, and bottom line its just a very odd approach to the series.I dont really understand why they would take the series this way.Its pretty bizarre.Other than that, the werewolves look the best in this one of the three films, and the storyline is pretty solid.I guess I would like this movie if I never saw the very first Ginger Snaps.I kinda like it,but in my opinion its not Ginger Snaps.
Ginger and Bridgette go back in time..okay not really.......2007-05-27
I, like most Ginger Snaps fans, was confused about just what this movie was about. It takes place before the events of the first two movies, but is not a prequel. In fact...its not even the same Ginger and Bridgette...too strange. But...actually..I liked it. After I got over the oddity of it, and began to look at it more as a stand alone film. Personally, this has become my favorite of the trilogy.
(3.5 stars)The Dark Sisters of the warewolf curse, was great, but should've worked on the ending.......2006-12-11
This movie was very interesting, but why did the sister kill the indian guy? And why did the 2 bad guys just drop their guns and run, and almost every horror, characters always trip and the killer gets them? But, a good plot, could've been better. But we don't e3ven get to see how Ginger killed the indian boy. Not scary, but good to watch. Some parts were kinda gross, like the dreams the sisters get and how the warewolves literally teared those guys apart.
Terrible Beauty: Ginger Snaps Back.......2006-12-09
This film's predecessor,"Ginger Snaps 2--Unleashed," was a competent but uninspired effort: a typical sequel. In contrast, "Ginger Snaps Back" is a significant film--but hardly a sequel at all.
The first two "Ginger Snaps" installments took place in contemporary Canada, mainly in suburbs and city; but "Ginger Snaps Back" is set in the Canadian frontier wilderness of nearly 200 years ago. Furthermore, in the earlier films (particularly the first) the two sisters Brigitte and Ginger share a complex relationship--loving but mutually antagonistic: Ginger's cynical death wish keeps her at odds with Brigitte who would stay alive (and human!) at any cost. In "Ginger Snaps Back," however, the girls have been simplified: they've become fairy tale orphans wandering through a monster-infested forest.
Early on in the film, the sisters find shelter in a militaristic fort/outpost run by some very hard guys--misfit toughs who resemble ogres just waiting for victims to approach their lonely castle! Significantly, it's in this dubious refuge that Ginger is infected with lycanthropy. Thus with monsters lurking outside the gates as well as within, the film plunges toward a fiery but despairing climax.
Overall, "Ginger Snaps Back" conveys a thrilling atmosphere of folklore and legends--an ancient eeriness more easily felt than described. Even the film's snow-covered forests radiate a sense of centuries-old Indian myths; appropriately, the film's Indian characters, including a larger-than-life hunter/warrior, identify the werewolves with the wendigo.
As a work of folklore or fairy tale, "Ginger Snaps Back" tends to be less verbal, but more visionary than the preceding films in this trilogy. Startling, beautiful images abound in this movie. Just one example: lovely Ginger in her black hooded cloak, with vamp fangs and raptor claws, flinging open the gates of the fort to admit the besieging werewolves. As the creatures surge forward and around her, Ginger stands as an icon of demonic ecstasy--comparable to the robot doppelganger in Fritz Lang's great "Metropolis"! Of course, that comparison alone should indicate the imaginative power flowing through "Ginger Snaps Back."
could have been better.......2006-04-27
Had promise but was a little long with no action and not enought werewolf activity. Too many flash backs and flash forwards. The best character and the most interesting was the Indian man, but he gets killed and the movie lost all excitement for me. The dark haired girl is annoying.

Like Carrie before it, Ginger Snaps uses horror-movie conventions as an inspired metaphor for puberty. When beautiful but reclusive goth teenager Ginger (Katharine Isabelle) is attacked by a monstrous wolf on the eve of her first period, her body starts changing in a big way, as do her suddenly lusty, feral appetites. Director John Fawcett masterfully balances the expectations of teen horror exploitation (blood, bodies, sex, smart dialogue, and good old-fashioned monster-movie scares) with clever black humor and tender sisterly solidarity. Only devoted sister Brigitte (gloomy Emily Perkins) knows the truth, and even as Ginger's abrupt transformation threatens their once unbreakable friendship, bonds of blood and love keep them together: Brigitte disposes of Ginger's victims while searching for a cure. Mimi Rogers costars as their dotty but unexpectedly sensitive mom, ready to sacrifice all to protect her daughter. Blood and blood ties have never been more evocative. --Sean Axmaker

Hands Down the BEST Werewolf/Horror movie made.......2007-07-03
Let me begin by saying that Im a huge fan of the horror genre. I have read the foundational works of H.P. Lovecraft, Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley and Bram Stoker. I have seen many of the werewolf movies like Howling I & II, American Werewolf in London, Dog Soldiers, Beast of Gauverdan, but none, NONE have come close to the pathos and sheer characterization that Ginger Snaps has. Two girls who are inseparable, struggle with becoming women and undergoing their first menstrual development into womanhood. Both are fascinated with death and live typical ansgsty suburban lives. Both experience first hand the absolute horror of becoming werewolves. Plainly said, this movie takes the metaphor of growing up and turns it upside down. Like Joss Whedon's Buffy, these girls have to confront what it is to be female and what it means to be an outsider.
After renting this movie I have now purchased all 3 of the Ginger Snaps movies. While the second two dont achieve the magnificence of the first, they are worthy of the title (the 3rd is actually a prelude that tells the story set in the 19th century). I highly, highly recommend these movies to enthusiasts of the horror, werewolf and supernatural genre!
A movie worth sinking your teeth into!.......2007-06-01
I haven't really come across any really good werewolf movies since The Howling, An American Werewolf in London, and more recently The Brotherhood of the Wolf and Dog Soldiers. Ginger Snaps was a pleasant surprise in its ability to entertain with the story of two sisters, Brigitte and Ginger being the main players. The two siblings are considered weird by the rest of their peers and share a close bond with each other.Things change when Ginger is bitten one fateful night setting the stage for Ginger's transformation into a werewolf, and complicating life for Brigitte whose sense of loyalty to her sister makes her cover Ginger's tracks and enlist the help of a guy, Sam to help save her sister.
Its fast-paced, and thrilling with scares thrown in for good measure. A competent addition to the werewolf horror genre.
For a werewolf movie i loved it!.......2007-05-13
Most werewolf movies i see are cheesy. For a B-movie this movie had a good storyline. The characters were good. Movie cam fast, in good quality.
A sad story; typical werewolf flick in that matter . . ........2007-03-11
"Ginger Snaps" is an interesting werewolf flick, in that at first we're not quite sure if maybe it isn't just hormones that is making Ginger act so strangely. But her sister soon learns the truth and sets out to try to cure her. I don't want to give too many details - I'm certain other reviewers have - but I will say that I liked this movie. It isn't among my very favorites, but it is a good, solid werewolf horror flick with a few new twists that make it very worthwhile to watch. Like all traditional werewolf movies, it has a terribly sad ending. But if we wanted to laugh, we'd watch "Teen Wolf," now, wouldn't we?
Kind of Makes Me Wish I Had A Sister . . ........2007-01-28
Foremost, I gave this film four stars because the end-product is pretty impressive considering the fairly scant budget (I'm thinking Mimi Rogers probably took about a quarter of that five mil). So, while it is not the quality of higher budget films, it does take some significant risks . . . which is tremedously refreshing.
Both Emily Perkins and Katharine Isabelle (who play sisters) do a fantastic job with their roles! And, like others said, their chemistry is surprisingly vibrant. Likewise, Kris Lemche (who plays Sam, a young "horticulturalist") is shockingly engaging. (If anything, I'm actually glad to see him in a role which demonstrates his immense talents . . . Final Destination III nearly destroyed his career!!) As far as "the talent" is concerned, there are no "bad" actors here . . . in fact, Mimi Rogers' dedication to this indie-horror was AMAZING! (Her portrayal of a well-intended, but completely oblivious suburban mom was spot-on!)
As others noted, the special effects are, well, not good. BUT, that's okay!! Because special effects do not reside at the heart of this film (who needs another Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow?!) Instead, we have a film which catalogs the (potential) trauma of being an adolescent with striking honesty. And while the comparisons to De Palma's Carrie are legitimate, it is VERY important to note that Carrie's telekinesis was triggered by the onset of menstruation (it was DORMANT, waiting to awake), Ginger's transformation is not the result of a dormant power . . . she is merely a victim of circumstance. I think this is a REALLY important distinction . . . and each are equally as interesting!! Each makes its own statement about adolescence.
Moreover, I appreciate how this film addresses the science behind folklore. This is a new trend in horror . . . and contributes an element of realism to the most unrealistic of situations (We see this is 28 Days Later and in the Dawn of the Dead remake). The idea of "infection" is a very appealing one!! And, the explanation of how the "cures" work, very interesting!!
This film is an overall success. The script is solid, the acting is great, the premise is "smart," . . . the cinematography is adequate at best (but don't let so-so filming deter you!!) It shows the complex bond between women in a respectful way (especially the relationship between the mother and the daughters). If you approach the film as "low-budget horror" I think you will be pleasantly surprised . . .

Snappy acting.......2005-12-13
A couple of sisters with vivid imagination are misunderstood. One gets bit by a "you know what" and the fun begins. Naturedly this is mistaken for a different type of change in life.
All the elements are there:
Caring (haven't got a clue) parents.
Blond with nasty attitude antagonist.
Drug dealer that does werewolf studies on the side.
Lots of neighbors with tasty pets.
Occasional gratuitous sex scene (the camera breaks away before the sweaty parts.)
You get the idea.
Will a cure be found and they all live happily ever after or is it curtains for the victims(s)?
The movie does have its unique way of mixing the standard elements to come out with the average "nipper" story. The only social redeeming value is the sisters' fidelity.

Customer Reviews:
If you approach the film as "low-budget horror" I think you will be pleasantly surprised . . .

Product Description
Is becoming a woman analogous, in some deep psychological way, to becoming a werewolf? Ginger is 16, edgy, tough, and, with her younger sister, into staging and photographing scenes of death. They've made a pact about dying together. In early October, on the night she has her first period, which is also the night of a full moon, a werewolf bites Ginger. Within a few days, some serious changes happen to her body and her temperament. Her sister Brigitte, 15, tries to find a cure with the help of Sam, a local doper. As Brigitte races against the clock, Halloween and another full moon approach, Ginger gets scarier, and it isn't just local dogs that begin to die.

Ginger Snaps 2 Unleashed (2004)
Living off reputation of Ginger Snaps
The original "Ginger Saps" had a unique approach to biting and sisterly love. I will not go into detail incase you missed the original. I would also suggest you watch the original first.
This movie however is just a run of the mill standard blood and guts cliché. You have the common wierdies and the standard abuse, a few tasty and tasteless scenes. Lots of anticipation and a little action. The decease sister plays very minor parts with no direction. And "Ghost" Tatiana Maslany is practicing to be the new Patty McCormack ("The Bad Seed" 1956).
They even run the obligatory "stay in the car" scene to ground.
A third movie is made "Ginger Snaps Back" they get back on the track of two sisters. It is much better and looks like they threw some money and thought into it. You can skip "Ginger snaps Unleashed!" and it will have no impact on viewing "Ginger Snaps Back"
------------------------------------------------------------
Ginger Snaps Back - The Beginning (2004)
Beware the red and the black
Third time is the charm. This is the third movie "Ginger Snaps Back" in the ginger snaps series and in my opinion the best. The first "Ginger Snaps" of course always get the privilege of being unique as a different more caring wolfy sisters. The second "Ginger Snaps 2" however was nothing more than an exploitation film relying on the reputation of the first film.
They seem to have found more money for this prequel and took acting lessons as this film was beautiful and well organized. There were a few overdone "Blair Witch" type scenes but they did not distract form the over all feel. It was a bit darker but would have been impossible to make otherwise. You may also notice that they had to go out of their way to show the sisters periodically as the story and some of the other actors were acting rings around them.
During the early exploration of the continent (1815) a group of people built a fort on the edge of the known world. Through a series of misfortunes and events two sisters Bridget and Ginger are lead to the fort by a mysterious native. There they encounter some odd characters and something unspeakable howling outside the fort.
Is it safer inside or out side the fort?
What is seen in the future and must it come true?
Is the bond of sisters stronger than any adversity?
The Ginger Snaps Trilogy: Bet you cannot stop at just one..........2006-03-05
The "Ginger Snaps" trilogy is not a three-part story by any means. After all, the title character is dead in the second movie and the third takes place several hundreds years before the other two. None of these are great horror films, but they have their moments, which are invariably based more on characters and situations than on special effects:
The relationship between lycanthropy and menstruation is explored for pretty much everything it is worth in the original "Ginger Snaps," a macabre hybrid of the horror and coming-of-age genres. The screenplay by Karen Walton has lots of bite, and even when the ending goes all horror show, director John Fawcett manages to not lose the focus on all the multiple levels of the film. The story is about two sisters who are bored to tears in their suburban Ontario track development. Ginger Fitzgerald (Katharine Isabelle) is 16 and Brigitte (Emily Perkins), is 15. For fun they stage and photograph tableaus of their own deaths. Their mother (Mimi Rogers) is concerned, not because of their fascination with death or their Goth wardrobe but because neither girl has had her first period. The girls are social outcasts, which only strengthens the bond between them.
On the night of the full moon Ginger gets her first period and is attacked by a werewolf. Now she is growing hair and becoming more and more irritable. "Ginger Snaps" works best when it is exploiting the horrors of puberty through the lycanthropy metaphor and when the bond of sisterhood comes into play. It is not until we get to see a werewolf up close and personal that we realize how low-budget this film really is, but that is a small price to play for being witty and showing some flair (even if the title is a rather lame joke).
In "Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed" the screenplay by Megan Martin finds a way to bring Ginger back, while Brigitte has made her sister's curse her own in a tragic effort at sibling solidarity. Brigitte is trying to control the transformations, desperately shooting up injections of wolfsbane and cutting herself daily to keep track of how long it takes to heal. She survives an attack but ends up in a drug treatment ward for young female addicts. Brigette is the only one who knows what is going on and does not make the mistake of thinking anybody is going to believe her. However, the first big twist here is that there is somebody who is more than willing to believe, a young girl named "Ghost" (Tatiana Maslany) who reads enough comic books to know more than a little bit about werewolves. Ghost is there because the building houses not only the detox center but a ward for long term care patients. Ghost's grandmother was severely burned in a fire and until Brigitte showed up the heavily bandaged old lady was all she really had in the world.
There are less special effects that the first film, which means the gore level is reduced. The best sequences involve more imagination than graphic violence anyhow. The film is directed by Brett Sullivan and what carries this film are the relationship between Brigitte and Ghost, especially since the younger girl insists on providing a spooky narration to even the most mundane events. Besides, sometimes fate has a wicked sense of humor and there are worst things than being annoying.
"Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning:" completes the trilogy by going back to the start of the 19th century the northern frontier of Canada was still the province of the fur trappers. But in 1815 the men who went to one remote outpost never returned and we know why. Orphaned by the sinking of their boat on the river, Ginger and Brigitte are making their way on horse through the forest when they have an encounter with a prophetic Indian woman and a bear trap. Rescued by an Indian known only as the Hunter (Nathaniel Arcand), they are brought to the outpost, where the reception they receive is rather odd. Clearly the only people who do not know what is going on out in this neck of the woods are the Fitzgerald sisters. Eventually we learn something that puts the entire saga of the Fitzgerald sisters into a new perspective in terms of the supernatural nature of the "curse," but primarily the point of the film is to wait for Ginger to get bit and then see how it plays out this time around.
The setting of the traders fort deep in the woods is pretty impressive, especially at night when lit by torch lights. Director Grant Harvey shoots the finale at night and the best scene comes when the doors to the fort open and the end game plays out. But the men inside the fort are equally important because they are what makes the situation work here. Ironically, the biggest problem with "Ginger Snaps Back" are the two leading actresses. Part of it is that they two sisters are so far out of their element this time that for much of the film they stand around and watch what is going on, reacting to what others are doing. Most importantly, the bond between the sisters, which was stronger than death in the first two films, is assumed rather than truly felt, even at the climax when Brigitte warns the men: "We will be together. She will come back for me." Of course she will; that is the whole point here.
In a world where horror movies franchise doing the same slicing and dicing over again with little imagination or variation the "Ginger Snaps" trilogy stands out. Fans are going to disagree, perhaps vehemently, over which film is the best of the series and which the most disappointing. I liked all three for pretty much completely different reason. You have to admit they have gone well beyond putting a twist on an idea of a young girl getting "the curse."
