OUTSTANDING HORROR/COMEDY MOVIE.......2006-11-22
If you like horror movies that are not so scary or violent and have more comedy, this movie is definitely a must have. Here we have a a heard of genetically mutanted bats that escape from a university lab in SCOTTSVILLE, CALIFORNIA and fly on a blood thirsty rampage. Out to stop the bats are TRACY NELSON and the WHIPPIN' HUBLEY who get off to an extremely bad start. However, as they investigate the attacks together, they fortunately fall in love and marry. TRACY NELSON who was once a battered and murdered housewife, sister of ISSABELLA HOFMMAN who wanted justice for the death, in "THE PROMISE" is now gracefully resurrected as the fiesty local detective (also moved from LOS ANGELES) who does not tolerate "the contamination of evidence with WHATEVER!!!!!". The WHIPPIN' HUBLEY was once a F14 FIGHTER in TOP GUN with TOM CRUISE and then an elite team member led by STEPHEN SEAGAL in EXECUTIVE DECISION. Now he is the local veteranrian, part-time animal control worker, who does not tolerate being called the town "DOGCATCHER?!?!?!?!?". With extra help from the veteranian's daughter KATIE STUART and her ENGLISH boyfriend LUKAS BEHNKEN who are both documentering the attacks, can they stop these attacks before it's too late? Watch and find out. And whatever happens, don't light "A FLARE!!!!!"
Gotta be batty to think it's good........2005-07-06
Fromn the get-go this movie stays boring and stale. This had to be a made for TV movie, i'll wet myself laughing if they claimed this was a motion picture.
A sceintist geniticly altered a bunch of bats and then they escape and attack when there called via remote. The ugly cop and her new dopey love interest & local animal control expert are on the case while his annoying and cant act for s*** daughter and boyfriend think there news reporters who keep follwing them around looking for an exclusive. All in a small and corrupted town.
This is obviosly a TV movie. It plays more like a pathetic soap opera with slight attempts at humor from time to time, while adding killer mutated bats into the mix. It is neither a horror, nor suspence. There is nothing frightining about the film except for the bad acting. It's a no wonder you wont have seen these actors before, nor will you in future. The effects of gore are laying a cows rib bones on the back of an actor and then hanging plastic bats over him then add some badly created CGI shadows to create an effect thats so bad it's not even laughable.
The movie is a waste of time. If you wanna see a Bat movie, then the actual title BATS was a better movie, but, it wasnt great either... but leaves this one for dead.
Rent it if you feel ill and have the need to puke at bad acting.
Not great, maybe not even good, but..........2005-04-26
...hey, at least it wasn't "Bats." Unlike that movie, this one doesn't take itself too seriously.
I have to admit you have to be in the right mood to see this horror film. It's campy, it's low budget, has some bad acting, and it isn't going to win any awards in filmmaking, but I was mildly entertained for an hour and a half. One reason is that the movie tends to make fun of itself - a reviewer hit the nail on the head when they say it borders on "Abbot and Costello Meet [instert monster]." The movie's got some pretty decent comedy going for it, much of it involving the corporate villain's large lackey Luis...who for some reason gets killed off WAY too early! What the heck? He was the most redeeming part of the movie! He's in maybe 30% of the film but offers 75% of the laughs! I had a good laugh when he takes his dead guard dog to the vet:
Vet: "So I'll run some tests on him, then I'll call you."
Luis: "Ah don't worry, you can keep 'em. He's no use to me now."
I also have to give this movie kudos for the special affects. They weren't great, but the director didn't emphasis them so you didn't really notice it as much as some horror films do, and at least they looked like real bats. The only real faults on this movie I can give is that the storyline slows down near the end, and a couple of times when the corncob-o-meter went on overload. It's not for everyone's taste, but if you want to see a movie to laugh at or you're in the mood for a lighter type of horror movie, this might be your style. I'm tempted to give it two stars, but hey I'm in a good mood.
Mutant Bats on the Rampage.......2004-08-27
A professor at a college in a small town is working with bats. He has bred them to be stronger and meaner. Then they get out and kill him. A local cop, once of the LAPD, and the local vet/animal control officer, worry about the loose bats and soon have their fears confirmed as the bats begin to attack others.
The hunt for the bats goes on while the body count rises. The town's apple festival is in jeopardy but it won't be shut down because of the necessary income it brings in. But our heroes start to notice a pattern in the attacks and learn more about how to disrupt or scare bats. In the end, we learn the truth of what is going on and see the final stand between heroes and bats.
A pretty typical story that follows the Jaws formula but adds a new twist on the animals' behavior. This is not just nature lashing out. Animal attacks, politics, and greed all come together in this story. Check it out.
Can't Take FANGS Seriously.......2004-05-24
FANGS is the sort of horror film that is horror only as one considers its genre. If it had had just a few more laughs, it might have qualified as an updated ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET SOME MONSTER OR OTHER. What director Kelly Sandefur has tried mightily to do is to splice some humor from the aforementioned A&C comedy horror genre with the slimy industrialist prototype right out of the mayor from JAWS. Sandefur's success is middling at best. Corbin Bernson is satisfyingly one-dimensional as the sleazebag real estate developer who is determined to keep his town's apple blossom festival from being cancelled by swarms of genetically engineered vampire bats, who, by the way, look exactly like the stringed rubber cutups they truly are. There is something to offend nearly everyone from the cloyingly annoying valley girl accent of Bernson's blonde daughter to the Barney Fife caricature of the film's entire cadre of deputies. Still, one is not supposed to watch this with a critical eye; one viewing a life is quite sufficient. For those who want to kill 90 minutes in harmless but not mindnumbing excess, there are worse fates than FANGS.

I liked this!.......2007-06-06
At the onset, Anita Ekberg's glacial Swedish beauty is featured as a portrait on a painting amidst a typically dreamy 70's soundtrack that seems a little too romantic for a horror film. The film is about a young model (Ekberg) who travels to her ancestral castle, only to find herself being held captive by her uncle, a man with incredibly chiselled yet inhuman features, along with a dark vampiric woman who roams about in a very tight low-cut dress? Hmm. Anyhow, I did enjoy the film, it had a sort of "Dark Shadows" aura about it that I found charming. Also, as someone who loves the mod look, I thought that Anita's clothing and eye-makeup were pretty fab.
St Clair's DVD "Collector's Edition".......2007-05-04
Ok, if this is a "Collector's Edition", I'd hate to see the standard edition- this is a sloppy release at best, with a very grainy image throughout. Also, the Amazon description says "letterboxed" - it's not. It's fullscreen. The title sequence is sort of letterboxed (though the credits are still cut off), but that's it.
The Retrovision release is actually better image quality, though both releases seem to be edited for television. Retro's image is much less grainy and seems to have slightly better (more complete) full-screen image information.
Failed to deliver.......2006-11-10
This movie started out with lots of potential but went downhill fast. These were the weakest vampires I have ever seen, the movie broke most of the "vampire rules", but on a good note plenty of eye candy.
Fangs of the Undead.......2005-03-05
Super-model Anita Ekberg inherits a castle, breaks off her engagement, and falls under the spell of her cold and strange uncle as she learns more of her inheritance and her heritage.
Or something like that. FANGS OF THE LIVING DEAD (aka Bloody Girl, Malenka the Vampire, The Niece of the Vampire and The Vampire's Niece) is hard to follow and probably not worth the trouble. I think Ekberg's grandmother Malenka (also played by Ekberg) was a dabbler in the black arts, outed and burned at the stake by irate villagers just after she'd brought Uncle Max to life, or undeath. Anyway, she's burning while he's fluttering his eyelids and wiggling his fingers. You figure it out.
In any event, there's a spooky castle, a creepy vampire uncle, busty barmaids, a gallant fiancé and trusty sidekick, and bunches of garlic hanging in every innocent window and doorway. This may well have been a satire that will appeal to fans of the genre. I just found it unpleasantly confusing.
Love Italian Style..........2005-01-17
Sylvia Morell (Anita Ekberg) inherits a castle in the outskirts of the Italian countryside. Upon arrival, she is greeted by a strange, ultra-thin uncle, who tells her of her grandmother named "Malenka" -(this was also the movie's original title)-, sealed in the castle's underground crypt. Thankfully, the castle is also the home of a vampire babe in an eye-popping outfit! She's the sort of gal that could bite my neck any time! There are also two local barmaids, one of whom is afraid she's being turned into a nosferatu. Anyway, the rest of the movie is a confusing trainwreck. However, Ms. Ekberg, the vampire babe, and the two village barmaids made it all rather painless and somehow enjoyable! There's even a vampiric catfight!! Worth a look...

It smells like a hun.......2004-05-27
Tigers are running amok in the jungles of Damang, disrupting Allied communications and killing local natives. Frank (Bring `Em Back Alive) Buck is called in to rescue the situation.
On his arrival at the MacCardle Rubber Plantation Buck discovers the natives chanting about `chindags' - evil humans who assume the form wild animals, in this case tigers. After a little investigation Buck concludes "The japs, or the `monkey people,' as they call `em, have possessed the souls of the tigers."
TIGER FANGS was directed by Sam Newfield, who is probably most famous for THE TERROR OF TINY TOWN (1938), a western with an all-midget cast. Apparently he worked pretty fast; TIGER FANGS is one of sixteen movies he directed in 1943. Frank Buck is a credible actor, although it had to be because of his fame as a animal collector that he's in this one. Another kinda recognizable face is that of Duncan Renaldo, who played the Cisco Kid in movies and on television in the late `40s and early `50s.
TIGER FANGS is an entertaining little movie with the good guys triumphant in the end. Buck had a reputation for treating his animals humanely, so parents won't have to worry about scenes of animal abuse or mistreatment. There are some racists attitudes, like the above quote, that might make this one unsuitable for children in some households.

Cubicle drone becomes a lycanthrope.......2003-02-18
I don't think it's fair to compare to a first feature film to accomplished director like Kar-Wai Wong who directs an award winning cast. It's an early film by emerging directors and it weaves a narrative thread akin to another young filmmaker Shinobu Yaguchi's films "Down the Drain" and "Adrenaline Drive." In these characters fall into a bizzare series of events driven by coincidence that test thier moral fiber.
In "Fangs" we add a layer of supernatural--but more accurately a magical realism with So Cal flavor. But the film isn't about the lycanthropy or ganster edge so much as the daily struggles of working in a cubicle and surviving an undesirable marriage. This film was a perfect escape from my cubicle and it doesn't matter if you're gay, straight, Asian or Latin, we all want to escape the cubicle.
Not To Be Missed.......2001-09-14
Sick of the humdrum world of Blockbuster entertainment, I stumbled across this rare gem on the recomendation of a friend. It was refreshing to discover a new, dynamic voice in the increasingly monotonous landscape of american cinema.
On what is obviously a modest budget, the filmmakers were able to tell an engaging and hip story, peopled with well-drawn, unconventional characters. There was dark subject matter, but it was off-set with just the right amount of macabre humor.
I'd recommend this film to anyone. Looking forward to more from Quentin and Justin.
shopping for fangs.......2001-09-09
I just saw this film and loved it. Granted, it's obviously low budget but I felt the filmmakers did a great job of playing and stretching with what they had. It's rare to see a film where it's playing with the film medium, trying to say something substantial. Even though I'm not Asian American, I can still really relate to the issues of alienation and identity. I'd definitely take films like this over Hollywood or pretentious indie films any day.
"much better" than Lee's "Drift".......2001-08-07
I watched both Lee's SHOPPING FOR FANGS and the newest DRIFT. Well, I prefer the former. SHOPPING FOR FANGSS is much better than DRIFT. I saw DRIFT in the LGBT film festival in San Francisco, along with my campy kinky sistahs, and we were shocked to find how such a simple-minded film like DRIFT could be shown in San Francisco Festival. Comparatively, SHOPPING FOR FANGS is simplified (it can be more complex and deeper), while DRIFT is simply simple-minded (I cannot imagine who would be convinced by its story line???). SHOPPING FOR FANGS shows sparkles of humor, but there is only very long long long whine (whine for what? very vague) in DRIFT. I am surprised how filmmakers can be in their regression; SHOPPING FOR FANGS is obviously much more mature film, though it is much older than DRIFT. One good thing shared by the 2 is their music--the music is good. Without the music, DRIFT will be untolerable in the theatre! I think it is OK to rent SHOPPING FOR FANGS and kill time watching it; but as to DRIFT, please please think hard before you invest your time! (by the way, my SINGLE star is for the music composer only, not for the filmmakers)
why not WHITE SINGLE WOMAN?.......2001-08-04
A friend recommends this Asian American film to me, but it turns out to be disappointing. Well, I know this is an indie movie, and I dont mind its technic weaknesses. However, since it is indie, it is supposed to be more exciting and vibrant. Well, maybe it is not easy for the indie makers. Anyway, this film (un)fortunately reminds me of a very (ir)relevant movie, WHITE SINGLE WOMAN (or SINGLE WHITE WOMAN), which features Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Lee. Although WSW was made many years ago and it was made in the notorious Hollywood, it has been intriguing to me. Like the pale Shopping For Fangs, WSW also explores female desire and identity (and identity crisis), mimicry, masquerade, and horror elements. WSW focuses on the dialectic between 2 women; it is also the case, though much less convincing, in Shopping for Fangs. I can say WSW is a wonderful thriller even though it seems not so; at the same time, I have to say that Shopping for Fangs fails to show anything about horror despite its self-claim. I dont know why. It seems we still find more creativity in the more mainstream movies? I dont like this fact. I suggest the indie makers can get rid of their whatever baggage and move on, and make NEW movies as good as WSW or something even better. By the way, why do the Asian Americans always stay in their ethnic ghetto? Is it real? Why dont they interact with people outside the ghetto? This surprises me.

the heat is on!!.......2004-02-04
this volume really picks up after the slow paced epidsodes from vol.3 (sins of the city)hidden fangs focuses on revenge (arrow) and other plot twists (shooter). heat guy gets "terminated" or does he? under the "influence" daisuke struggles with his dark past and Vampire clair leonetti finds himself ousted from the family via trechary (can you guess who turns him in? hee hee.)
which leads to a mini cliffhanger thus leading to the next and final chapter of this fast paced series. NOT TO BE MISSED!
P.S. once you insert the dvd in your player your'e "forced" to hear this WARNING of copyright violation which is voiced by the english dubbed daisuke who then snickers after mentioning "..violators will be subjected to 5 years in prison and a $250.00 fine." i take it that pioneer/geneon isn't happy about all the bootlegging that's taking place in china,us,etc.
i just hope that the anime industry will lower their prices thus making it easier for otakus to purchase more volumes/discs of their favorite series. prices like $29.99 for 100 minutes is a bit too steep. thank god amazon sells this dvd for less.

Product Description
Fangs of the Living Dead (94 min) This is a wild & wacky vampire flick from the same director who brought you the "Blind Dead" series, mixing busty go-go style ladies & campy vampirism chills. Anita Ekberg plays Sylvia, who is surprised to learn that she has inherited a castle, from relatives that she didn't even know she had. She travels to the remote village to claim the castle, but when she gets there she can't understand why everyone panics when they find out who she is & where she is going. Sylvia also discovers her curious "Uncle", who doesn't look a day older than she does, and some vampirish babes. Sylvia is told of her family's undead history, her grandmother Malenka, and her new role as the matriarch of the vampire clan. Sylvia's fiance doesn't take too kindly to her announcement that their engagement is off, & he travels with his best friend to the castle to straighten it out. The expected vampirism and paranoia occurs, until the conclusion reveals that the whole thing has been a hoax to drive Sylvia insane and cheat her out of her inheritance. That is, until someone touches a torch to her uncle and he immediately disintegrates. This movie's complete with a spook-a-rama harpsichord & organ soundtrack, and kooky dialogue. If you can find a copy of this, you'd be wise in grabbing it up! Night of The Living Dead (98 m) Classic flick filmed on location in Pennsylvania in which chaos descends upon the world as the recently deceased become reanimated by a radiation-covered NASA satellite; to rise and feed on human flesh. As the catastrophe unfolds, a young woman visiting her father's grave takes refuge in a nearby farmhouse, where she is met by a man who protects her and barricades them inside. They both later discover people hiding in the basement, and they each attempt to cope with the situation. Panic and personal tensions only add to the terror as they try to survive.

Had enough of shows where animals eviscerate one another? No? Then you can take the genre to another level with Madacy Entertainment's Fangs and Claws. It's the usual hyenas-and-vultures-dine-on-hooved-animals fare, except rendered in excellent sound and stunning photography. From army ants to the whale shark, it's the survival of the fittest to the bitter end. DVD enthusiasts looking for a wealth of bonus material might feel that the program comes up a bit short, but for sheer production values, Fangs and Claws is at the top of the nature-show food chain. --Ryan Boudinot
