Customer Reviews:
This course is superb introduction into UNIX!.......2006-03-01
It is a first part of his bigger course and it includes "UNIX Essentials". For someone who needs a general introduction to UNIX, basic commands, processes and file operations it is a way to go. I would say this course teaches and explains some 75% of commands one ever will type at command prompt. If you need certification you should go with their "UNIX Essentials and UNIX Core" DVD. There are many reviews for this bundled DVD course and everything people have said there is applied to this title because it is a first part of the bigger course. This DVD even teaches my ten years old son as he had been captured by Boris's voice and stay with me to type commands. I can really appreciate the effort was put in the production and attitude.

A Rave for The Raven.......2005-04-13
Just finished watching Peter Bradley's The Raven, and I'm really impressed. We were just given the assignment in English, and I was expecting another version of the Vincent Price movie. Boy was I wrong. This is the real thing. I can see why people over the years give Poe such high honors for horror. While I admit that I am not a big horror fan, this movie has much more of a hook than the comedy versions I was used to. It actually held my attention and I was kind of sorry when it was over. Good music, Great photography, and a kind of creepy overall feel, that really fits in a horror. Not a shocker but a real, in the head, horror. Every one in the class loved it. I'd recommend it to any one working on the old 4.0
Perfect for students!.......2005-04-12
This is a splendid film. It manages to capture the ideas and emotions that Poe laid out in an inspired way. It doesn't seem to go for the full-blown realistic, not does it go for full-out fantasy. It manages to walk the edge between the two. The lead actor (whose character doesn't seem to ever get a name, I've noticed) is obviously real, the room is real, but there are some subtle, off-kiltered not-so-real elements to it all. The raven itself is obviously not a real bird, but one gets the idea that it was never really MEANT to be, and therefore shouldn't be viewed as such. Other elements, such as Lenore's ever changing face is just another hint that something just isn't right. Personaly, the film COULD have taken itself a bit MORE into the insane side of things, but that is simply my opinion. Not a perfect film, to be sure. You can tell that this did not have the biggest of budgets behind it. But you CAN tell that this was a project with a lot of love and passion for the source material, which, frankly, makes up for the few minor shortcomings. I must also add that this film does demand repeated viewings. More of the subtle elements becore aparent with a second or third watch. Which, again, shows that there was a fair bit of love for the original material. Lastly, I would like to mention that this film was brought to my attention by my son, who watched it in his English class. He seems to have taken a real interest in Poe due to this film, and has asked for a copy of it as well as a book of Poe's work for his birthday, which I happily bought for him. Again, not a perfect film, but a very entertaining one, to be sure. And ideal viewing for the entire family.
A Modern Classic.......2005-04-12
I think Peter Bradley has nailed it, with this excellent telling of the classic horror poem by Edgar Allen Poe. Amazing feel to the picture, using black and white to harness the despair of the lost Lenore. The cast and narration are first rate, combining to give that eerie tingle in the spine, that you would expect from a classic of the genre. The Raven is also pretty cool.
POE-etic Perfection.......2005-04-12
A Timeless and Faithful adaptation of the Classic Poem. Riveting narration delivered by Michael Sayers. Louis Morbito delivers the intensity of the Tortured sole with profound believability. Great production with a realistic 19th Century look and feel, that Edgar Allen POE would himself applaud. Not for the comic book crowd, intended for people of a higher intellect. A DVD Library must for any real die hard POE fans.
Pedantic.......2005-04-07
Could this be better. Oh yes. let me count the ways. Stilted acting, Poor lighting and what, 15 min. long? Read the poem, you'll get a lot more out of it!!!
