The murder rate is as high as an elephant's eye in this flaccid adaptation of Stephen King's short story. While driving through Nebraska en route to a new job, medico Burt (Peter Horton) and his wife Vicky (a pre-Terminator Linda Hamilton) nearly run over a mutilated boy who staggers from the cornfields. Seeking help, they enter the town of Gatlin, whose under-20 residents have butchered their parents per the decree of junior-grade holy roller Isaac (John Franklin), who preaches the word of a being called "He Who Walks Behind the Rows." King's original story (from his 1978 collection Night Shift) was a lean and brutal mélange of Southern-gothic atmosphere and E.C. Comics-style gore, which scripter Greg Goldsmith effectively neutralizes by adding a youthful narrator (a grating Robbie Kiger) and putting an upbeat spin on the story's morbid conclusion. Fritz Kiersch's direction is TV-movie flat, with the sole inspired moment (hideous religious iconography glimpsed during a bloody "service") delivered as a throwaway. Aside from Horton and Courtney Gains (as Isaac's hatchet man Malachai), the performances are dreadful, and the depiction of the Lovecraftian monster-god as a sort of giant gopher inspires more laughter than terror. Amazingly, the film spawned six sequels; Franklin (Cousin Itt in the Addams Family films) later appeared in and wrote 1999's Children of the Corn 666. --Paul Gaita

Malachai is the frightening one here in this adaptation of Stephen Kings short story Children of the Corn.
This movie will give you the creeps during the scenes through the corn fields, the fact that the town has been rid of adults, and then there is the scene--an unexpected scene that involves a child and a car ...enough said. Watch the movie and feel the fright for yourself.

There are some cheesy parts in this movie due to low budget production, but all in all not so bad.

This is an OK movie. I've seen it three or four times and I decided to buy it. I didn't even bother watching all the others because movies that aren't that good usually don't have good sequals either. But this one is good enough to watch although not scary at all. Malachai is pretty cool.

Solid 80's horror from a Stephen King short story.......2007-01-29

Like the majority of adapted Stephen King stories, this 80's horror flick falls short of the source material, although it's pretty cool to actually see the source material on the screen. (Literally, a paperback copy of Night Shift is on the dashboard in front of Linda Hamilton in the opening driving sequence).

The original story is only 30 pages long and a little different from the movie, but again, like the majority of King's work, it just doesn't transfer directly to the screen. The story is slightly modified, but not terribly so. One day the children in a small town decide to rise up and kill all the adults in the town in order to worship HE WHO WALKS BEHIND THE ROWS. This plot-line goes back to one of King's semi-obsessions: the idea that there are small towns out there so remote that no one would even notice when an entire town is massacred and deserted... that is, until a pair of unsuspecting travelers happen upon it.

Rating this movie based on special-effects and film quality standards of today would hardly be fair, and I have a feeling that for the 80's this was a quality film, but obviously, today the climactic scenes, and some stuff leading up to that are pretty "corny"... I knew I'd have to say that.

I haven't seen any of the sequels, and I suspect they're not that great, but this film is worth the time to watch if you're into horror movies. The kids playing Isaac and Malakai are definitely creepy and poor special effects are forgivable if you have creepy kids backing it up.

When I saw this movie I was blown away.It was sad that ALL the adults died,but the weirdest thing is that the signs to gatlin are every where they confuse a couple that are lost on a trip across the country when they stumble onto these children that hail to a demon in the corn when the kids get to old they are sorry,can't tellyou have to see the movie.

I could not sit through this movie. The acting and screenplay are terrible. This film could be described as a bad made-for-tv movie at best.

I ended up fast-forwarding though the entire movie after the first 30 minutes and turned the player off before I reached the end. I couldn't take it anymore. This movie is one of the worst I've attempted to watch in a long time.

Not recommended.

Made in 1969 and 1970, respectively, these movies exemplify all that was good and bad about biker culture of that era. In Hell's Angels '69, two thrill seekers join the Hell's Angels with the plan to use them as cover for a daring robbery of Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. The Losers is even more bizarre. Also called Nam's Angels, the film focuses on a group of bikers hired by the U.S. government to rescue a special agent in a Cambodian prison. The portrayal of the bikers is similar in both movies. They are hard-drinking people who love to get into fights, are loyal to each other, and hate cops/military police. Oh, and they're white supremacists. Both movies contain bikers wearing Nazi swastikas, and both movies have some racist banter used as throwaway lines. Despite that, the films are worth recommending as good examples of genre biker films. Hell's Angels '69 has some fascinating shots of Las Vegas before the Strip was fully engulfed in neon, and The Losers is just plain weird. Both movies are obviously influenced by Easy Rider, particularly with their endings, and capture a time in America when things were obviously not going right. --Andy Spletzer

If you are interested in seeing a lot of the real deal Hells Angels, this is the movie. Sonny Barger and Terry the Tramp are stars here, and you see a lot of the others as well. Lots of Bikes too. The plot was interesting, and the movie was good entertainment.

Defective DVD .......2007-02-11

I tried to watch this movie on 3 different dvd players. Would not play on any of them. I bought 2 of the dvd players new within the last 9 months. I even tried it on my computer that has a dvd burner and it just locked up the program. Be Warned!

Okay but not great....................2006-09-28

The Angels did better acting than the actors! They did their own Moto-X stunts,because they fell in the desert a few times and stuntmen would'nt have fallen.I think if the main characters would have stuck to DIRECTING/producing only and not acting/directing/producing, it would have been a lot better made. It was a little mellow and they party much harder than this depicts.It's about a C+ movie,rent it or borrow not really a keeper............The artwork on the cover is cool.

This rather lame tale of two thrill seeking rich boys out to prove they can rob a Las Vegas Casino, and use Hells Angels to do it, would barely merit mention were it not for the fact that the real Oakland Angels are stars in the film.
Sonny Barger, President, Terry the Tramp, Magoo and Cisco, all of the Oakland chapter, and familiar to anyone who has read any of the books about the history of the Angels, are featured heavily here with dialogue and close ups and everything. Terry being the stand out.
The motorcycles range from rather stock late sixties Harleys to a custom built chopper reportedly built by Sonny specially for the film. But these bikes are only featured in the first two thirds of the picture- the final chase scene through the desert has almost the entire cast riding dirt bikes.
Overall an interesting if not great film, just to see the famous Angels, the basis for so many of the genres offerings, in the flesh so to speak.

Believe it or not, Hell's Angels 69, released at the tail end of the `biker' genre, was not the first film to feature the Angels (that credit goes to the 1967 film Hells Angels on Wheels), but, it was the first film where the boys actually got speaking parts. Co-written by Jeremy Slade (who also co-stars) and Tom Stern (who also co-stars and produced the movie), with the screenplay by Don Tait (Chrome and Hot Leather, The Apple Dumpling Gang, Herbie Goes Bananas), and directed by Lee Madden (Angel Unchained, The Manhandlers), the movie features Conny Van Dyke (W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings), who, along with appearing on numerous television game shows throughout the 70s was also Motown's first, white recording artist, G.D. Spradlin (The Godfather: Part II, Apocalypse Now, Ed Wood), along with a slew of real life Hell's Angels including Charles `Magoo' Tinsley, John `Terry the Tramp' Tracy, Tiny Walters, Clifford `Skip' Workman, and Ralph 'Sonny' Barger, also known as the Godfather of the Hells Angels and the most famous outlaw Biker in the world.

As the movie begins we're in Los Angeles, at a real swinging party, a happening shindig hosted by two seemingly well-to-do brothers Wes (Slate) and Chuck (Stern), in a groovy apartment complete with wall to wall pink shag carpeting...zowie! The boys talk briefly about some plan, and then cut out early arriving at a posh house in the hills. The next morning we see the two leaving, dressed as bikers, driving a pair of choppers (motorcycles). They ride out into the country and stake out the Hell's Angels (the Oakland chapter, to be specific), eventually weaseling their way into hanging out with the club. The pair participate in various club activities like drinking beer, riding around recklessly, drinking beer, terrorizing a small town, drinking beer, brawling with each other, drinking beer and so on...did I mention they drink beer? Also, Chuck buys Betsy (Van Dyke), a tag along bimbette of the club, for a pack of smokes (I wonder what he could've gotten for a carton). Anyway, after Wes and Chuck get a serious beat down from the bikers (I thought it was an initiation of sorts, but this wasn't the case), they hear the Angels are planning on a road trip, to which Wes and Chuck suggest Las Vegas as a destination, as that's where the action is...or, at least the action as far as their plans go. Turns out Wes and Chuck have designs on robbing one of the casinos, and are planning on using the Angels as part of a diversionary tactic. The group does go to Las Vegas, the brothers manage the heist and get subsequently get away, trading in their choppers for dirt bikes and fleeing across the desert. The Angels, learning of the ruse, are hot on the heels of the deceptive duo and it's not to congratulate them for their recent successes...

Okay, first off I want to mention that there is no huge Las Vegas riot scene in this film, despite the fact that on the front of the DVD case it states "This was the RUMBLE that ROCKED Las Vegas!". This was a little disappointing to me, I was really looking forward to some serious bone snapping, head cracking, blood spilling action as the cops and the bikers participated in an all out battle royale. There is a showdown of sorts, but it ends all rather amicably, and without much fuss. One of the most interesting aspects of the film for me was when the group was cruising the Las Vegas Strip, and seeing how relatively quaint the Las Vegas Strip was compared to today (Caesar's Palace was miniscule to its current form). As far as the acting goes, the `professional' performers did all right (none of them broke a sweat, but the material was very simplistic), while Sonny and his club members, while not professional actors, did well enough, and besides, these aren't the kind of guys I'd think would stand around while the director took take after take after take trying to get the shot right. As far as the story goes this wasn't the best biker movie I've ever saw, but it was far from the worst. At the very least it was kept relatively straightforward. Having real life Hell's Angels present certainly provided a sense of authenticity, and the film does feature a lot of what one expect in a flick like this in the four B's...bikes, boozing, brawling, broads (a bit skimpy on this last one, though). The whole subplot with Van Dyke's character realizing there's more to life than being the property of a biker club seemed awkward at times, and near the end it really dragged on the film as her newfound outlook on life leads to complications between Wes and Chuck, but other than that, the story moved along at a decent pace. The stunts were well done, and the fight scenes felt very real which made me wonder if any of it was staged, or if the guys were just cut loose to go at each other. The funniest scene in the film was when Chuck and Wes changed from their biker outfits into suits and really phony looking wigs, prior to robbing the casino. Had I been on the scene when this happened, and the police later questioned me as to if I saw anything strange or unusual, I would have responded, "What, besides the two guys with really bad crew cut wigs?" All in all an interesting film that plods along at times, and features an ending you might not expect, but one should keep in mind the Hell's Angels had a stipulation in that while they could be depicted as being fooled in the movie, they ultimately had to have the last word.

Media Blasters provides a good looking, fullscreen (1.33:1) picture on this DVD, and the Dolby Digital 2.0 audio comes through clean enough. There are a number of special features including a original trailer for the film, an intro by Joe Bob Briggs, a featurette titled `Conny Van Dyke: Message to Her Fans' (9:30), a Connie Van Dyke photo gallery, liner notes and movie info print on the DVD booklet insert, and a commentary track featuring Joe Bob Briggs. Also included are trailers for other Media Blaster DVD releases like Blood Shack (1971), Hell High (1989), Samurai Cop (1989), and The Hollywood Strangler (1979). The movie itself rates three stars, while Joe Bob Brigg's commentary track earns this release an extra star. That man sure knows his cinematic crud.

If I learned anything from this film it's not to cross the Hell's Angels...they seem reluctant to forgive and forget...and a pack of cigarettes goes far in biker clubs.

YOU IDIOTS! Cease the sequels and erase them. Was Kane Hodder only in this for the money or just for a laugh. The original is all that should remain and no sequel garbage at all.

Getting pretty dull.......2006-01-07

This is the dullest of the CotC films so far, but it's too late for me to turn back now. Much like the last 2 ones, it doesn't seem directly related to the original film, but just another variation on the basic setup. The corn matters again this time, however, and He Who Walks Behind the Rows is back, though this time as a fire in a corn silo, for some reason. For most part nothing really happens. There is a plot, of sorts, involving the main characters brother who joined the Corn Cult and so on, but it's just another basic re-do where a pack of young people stumble into a town full of evil children. They stand around for a long time, eventually some people die, but not in a particularly intriguing fashion. David Carradine makes a brief appearence, and he's passably amusing, but the film hasn't got a whole lot else going for it. Also, the head evil kid isn't very good, as has generally been the case in this series. It's tough to make small children scary or intimidating, I guess. The film does have an amusingly pointless stinger at the end, and once the killin gets started it's sufficiently amusing, but it's mostly a whole lotta nothin.

I smell a Friday The 13th inspiration with this..........2006-01-03

This is one of the better Children Of The Corn sequels, one of my favorite. The script is well written, some semi- big stars (Kane "Jason" Hodder, Ahmet Zappa, Diva Zappa, Alexis Arquette, David Carradine) and with some nice gore. There is also alot of hints that the writer/director may of been an Friday The 13th fan.
There is a great barn sequence, some almost taken from friday The 13th. Someone busting in the barn door (much like Friday The 13th Part 3), a nice chainsaw heroine fight (alot like Friday The 13th Part 5)and a barn death much like Dick Wieand's (Roy) in Friday The 13th part 5.

The acting wasn't so great, and the movie was very predictable.

I own all of the Children of The Corn sequels, and to tell you the truth they are not very good. The first sequel was alright, and then this one, part V were the best. I liked this movie, not because it was unique or even good, but it payed homage (in my opinion) to one of my favorite Friday The 13th movies (Part V). The barn scene was done well as an homage piece to Pam, Reggie and Tommy's duel with Roy Combs in Friday V. The impalement on the spikes were the icing on the cake. Kane (Jason Voorhees) Hodder's cameo pretty much solidifies my notion that the production team must have been fans of the Friday franchise.

No other author in recent memory has had as much consistent success selling books as Stephen King. For roughly three decades the Maine writer churned out book after book, each one selling more and more copies. He's a world unto himself, the lucky fellow! He's so successful that he could throw out his pens, put away his typewriters, bury his word processor six feet under, never write another word in his life, and STILL have enough money to wallpaper the Great Wall of China five times over. In many respects, it's Stephen King's world and the rest of us are just living in it. But, and this is a gigantic but, an enormous number of metaphysically bad films based on his novels threaten to put a serious dent in his legacy. We all know the good ones, the ones that not only scared audiences stiff but also helped propel King's career to even greater heights. "Carrie" is probably the best example, followed by "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Dead Zone." These are wonderful, magical films that one can watch again and again without wearying of them. Then there are the rest: the truly wretched refuse that reminds one of dental plaque or the junk that washes up on the shores of a filthy river. Welcome to the Children of the Corn franchise.

"Children of the Corn 5: Fields of Terror" is the archetypical low budget horror film instantly recognizable to fans of the genre. Its got a group of young people leaving their urban element to head out into the countryside, a few recognizable actors who once made bigger films but now must scramble for a paycheck, and an up and comer who would move on to better things. Allison (Stacy Galina), Greg (Alexis Arquette), Tyrus (Greg Vaughan), and Kir (Eva Mendez) take a trip to the sticks in order to attend a funeral. Also going along, but in a different car, are Lazlo (Ahmet Zappa) and his girlfriend Charlotte (Angela Jones). Tragedy suddenly erupts when Lazlo and his significant other wander into a cornfield and meet their maker at the hands of a bunch of kids armed with sharp farm implements. The other four kids don't know about this incident, but they do learn about the kids after Greg crashes his car in a ditch. Ezekiel (Adam Wylie) and a few of his cronies emerge from the corn to warn the four about trespassing on private property. They also direct these outsiders to the nearest town and bus stop, but they just miss said bus and must stop into the local tavern where Kane Hodder works as a bartender. After a thoughtless comment to the locals about an unpleasant odor in the air, our group learns that a burning corn silo is to blame. Wanna bet that silo will play a big part in the next hour or so?

In the interim, the group holes up in an abandoned house near town to await the arrival of the bus after discovering someone set fire to their car. Allison takes some time to explain her increasing funk: she heard an offhand comment in the bar about "He Who Walks Behind the Rows," a name that evokes memories of her brother Jacob (Dave Buzzotta). He ran off years ago to join a cult professing to worship this being, and it's no to learn that this very cult resides in the same area where Allison and her pals are now staying. Ezekiel, with the help of understanding adult Luke Enright (David Carradine), directs the ceremonies and sacrifices to "He Who Walks Behind the Rows," who just happens to live in the aforementioned burning silo. Allison reunites with brother Jacob and tries to talk him into leaving. Unfortunately, a book containing the cult god's holy writings fall into the hands of Kir, who reads it and promptly joins the group. Anyone in the cult attaining the age of eighteen must willingly jump into this silo fire so the demon can absorb their spirit, or some such nonsense. Needless to say a lot of people are going to go into that fire, including some local firefighters, a few cult members, and Jimmy Hoffa. Fred Williamson shows up from time to time as the suspicious local sheriff.

So all the elements listed above are here: the group of city kids ran into a rural evil, David Carradine and Fred Williamson showed up to collect their paychecks, and up and comer Eva Mendez put in her time as a snobby looker with a penchant for joining corn cults. All of the characters are appropriately irritating, with special mention going to Alexis Arquette as a mouthy city slicker who doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. His eventual demise at the hands of enraged cultists is uniquely satisfying and requires that I bump this film up from two to three stars. An added benefit to watching "Children of the Corn 5" is the number of people we see engulfed in flames. When you're going to set up a fiery god living in a corn silo as the centerpiece of your film, you've got to start passing out fire retardant suits to the stuntmen. The scenes where the firemen fall prey to the roaring flames shooting out of the silo transcend the laws of physics. Watch and see if you can figure out why.

The only extras on the disc are trailers for parts three, four, and six of "Children of the Corn," "Halloween: Curse of Michael Myers," "Mimic 2," "Dracula 2000," and "Halloween: H20." This installment in the extraordinarily persistent "Children of the Corn" franchise was the last one I could watch without groaning aloud. It takes a steely constitution to weather the next two entries, let me tell you. Give this one a chance if you like Eva Mendez (what guy wouldn't) or if you simply must see every horror movie you stumble across.

boring..........2003-12-21

This is probobly the 2nd to worst out of the whole 7 movies. It just aint creepy or wierd enough like "COTC 1" and "COTC 4" They have an adult co-leader and child leader that is about 12 or 13. All the rest of the kids are anywhere between 15-17 years old. This movie didnt show any of thier cult meetings and there was just too much gore in this film, which really was boring cause it was the same kids that killed. If you want to see a decent COTC movie with the kids and the gore, you need to get either "COTC 2" or "COTC 4" They have more of the little kids in it killing or doing thier cult stuff. But this movie was just not needed for the series.

MAN, I HATE THIS! I cannot take this any more. Watch the original and that is it. The original needs no sequel at all. Every sequel to the original sucks.

Where to begin, I have no clue. A talentless pool of unknown actors assemble together and do their best to act their way to an undeserved paycheck. The script was juvenile and the acting was just as bad. It is only appropriate that bad acting be accompanied by bad dialogue, don't ya think? There was some unintended comic relief in this messy film. Guess what folks, Isaac returns and he is a midget with a whiney voice. I almost felt bad for Isaac for having been in a coma for so many years only to survive as a silly looking buffoon. I couldn't help but laugh every time poor Isaac had something philisophical to mutter. Utter nonesense and not scary one bit. The whole movie is trash. Oh geez, why do is waste my time.

A little better than 5.......2006-01-10

Well, looks like I'm about done with this. The past two viewing tend to suggest that I'd have been better off if I'd stopped with 4, but then I would just spent the remainder of my life wondering what might have been. Much like in 5, I don't know if their is anything too terribly grating or stunningly incompetent about the film as a whole, it's just rather uneventful and fairly dull. As you may have surmised, Isaac is back, and he's still a jerk. This is kinda fun, but John Franklin's mere presence isn't worth too much, and he really doesn't do much of anything. Another plus is that the film is occasionally slightly atmospheric. Only occasionally, and only very slightly, but it's somethin'. Unfortunately, CotC 666 lacks the laugh out loud hilarity of the better portions of 2 and 3, and the slightly intriguing plot and decent gore of 4. So, we aren't left with much. The climax is passably involving, and amusingly nonsensical, but overall it's a long journey to nowhere. That, and where's the killing? This film has only got a single sexy teen, rather than a pack of them, so we have very few preliminary killings. (Well, the protagonists in the CotC films usually weren't very sexy, but you get my meaning.) A few of those would've spiced things up substantially, but this is all we got.

I had an okay time watching this, but I really can't think of any reason why you ought to see it unless you have some bizarre compulsion to see all the CotC films. Not that I'd know anything about that.

No other author in recent memory has had as much consistent success selling books as Stephen King. For roughly three decades the Maine writer churned out book after book, each one selling more and more copies. He's a world unto himself, the lucky fellow! He's so successful that he could throw out his pens, put away his typewriters, bury his word processor six feet under, never write another word in his life, and STILL have enough money to wallpaper the Great Wall of China five times over. In many respects, it's Stephen King's world and the rest of us are just living in it. But, and this is a gigantic but, an enormous number of metaphysically bad films based on his novels threaten to put a serious dent in his legacy. We all know the good ones, the ones that not only scared audiences stiff but also helped propel King's career to even greater heights. "Carrie" is probably the best example, followed by "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Dead Zone." These are wonderful, magical films that one can watch again and again without wearying of them. Then there are the rest: the truly wretched refuse that reminds one of dental plaque or the junk that washes up on the shores of a filthy river. Welcome to the Children of the Corn franchise.

"Children of the Corn 666: Isaac's Return" introduces us to Hannah (Natalie Ramsey), a young lady heading back to the now infamous Gatlin, Nebraska in order to answer some important personal questions: why am I drawn to a town out in the sticks? Who is my mother and where is she? Will accepting this role in a schlock, straight to video clunker enhance my career opportunities? You can quickly grasp the metaphysical importance of such ponderings. In quick succession, Hannah runs into a string of problems. Pushy town cop Cora (Alix Koromzay) gives her sass before she even arrives in town. Doc Michaels (Stacy Keach), the town quack, insists on imprinting his own weird impressions on the girl. But the most bizarre occurrence confronting Hannah during her first visit to Gatlin is the sight of a short man hooked up to a slew of machines in a hospital. This figure is none other than Isaac (John Franklin), the original apostle of "He Who Walks Behind the Rows" in the first film. Apparently, the boyish preacher did not perish at the end of "Children of the Corn," although it sure looked like it then, but slipped into a deep coma that has rendered him helpless for all these years. The arrival of Hannah, however, fulfills an old prophecy that will see Isaac out of his coma and possibly bring about a reemergence of the corn demon.

As "Children of the Corn 666" progresses, not so much in a linear manner but in a serious of jerky fits and starts capable of inducing whiplash in the viewer, more of the "storyline" emerges for our consumption. It appears that many worshippers of "He Who Walks Behind the Rows" survived the Peter Horton induced apocalypse at the end of the first film and grew up. They've been waiting all these years--raising their own children and acting like responsible adults--for Isaac to awaken from his slumber and call forth the demon. Why? I don't know. Since cult members always considered anyone over the age of eighteen the enemy, I can't imagine why grown people would welcome the malevolent corn god with open arms. Wouldn't he just pop up out of the earth and rip every person with age wrinkles and five o'clock shadow into bloody pulp? The whole subplot involving Hannah's reunion with her mother Rachel (Nancy Allen) withers when confronted with fundamental questions the movie refuses to ask, let alone answer. It should go without saying that numerous individuals find the idea of a possible Isaac/corn devil reconciliation an unpalatable situation. These are the people who end up on the wrong end of scythes and other sharp objects.

What we have here is such a mess of a film that it easily ranks as the worst entry in the franchise. So many characters parade past the screen, from Gabriel (Paul Popowich) to Jake (William Prael) to a dozen others that it's impossible to keep it all straight. Only the presence of the attractive Natalie Ramsey and the very gorgeous Sydney Bennet in the role of cranky Morgan help keep this film down on stomachs made queasy with banalities. John Franklin, who also co-wrote the script, doesn't do much beyond what he did in the first film. Sure, he issues the usual biblical mumbo jumbo pronouncements to adoring audiences, but his middle age mug and rougher voice tell us this isn't the Isaac we remember from the first film. Is it possible for the chief apostle of a demon to collect Social Security checks, particularly when said demon makes it a point to hype the virtues of youth? Like I wrote earlier, there are more questions here than answers. By the time the film shudders to a halt, all I could bring myself to praise was the gore, and there is precious little of that floating around compared to other entries in the series.

The DVD contains no extras, which is just as well because that would require the viewer to spend more time with this no account film. I suggest you skip, forget, overlook, reject, condemn, avoid, cast off, jettison, exile, dump, burn, pass over, disregard, denounce, discard, and abandon "Children of the Corn 666" as quickly as possible. Rearrange your sock drawer, change the furnace filters in your house, or reattach those plastic thingies to your shoelaces--do anything you can think of to avoid this atrocity. If you must see it, good luck and may god be with you.

Excellent; Twenty Times Better Than I Expected.......2004-12-18

To be honest, I rented this out of sheer desperation a couple of years ago, having seen virtually every other horror movie for rent in town (this was before everybody started stocking a dozen new horror titles a month, a welcome development). I'd seen 2 or 3 of the earlier installments and not been impressed and given up on the series. I'm not trying to bash them, I know alot of people really love the whole series, but the original and the first sequel just didn't do anything for me personally. I'm not sure whether I even saw "Urban Harvest" or not - I guess I couldn't have cared for it too much if I did. But I took a chance on this one, breaking my own rule of Never skipping ahead in a series (3, 4 and 5 weren't available) and was certainly glad I did.

Very few times have I gone into a movie with such low expectations and been so totally blown away in surprise. "Children Of The Corn 666: Isaac's Return" is an absolute treasure find! It involves a young woman in search of her past and ending up in the farm town central to the series, notorious for events that happened there previously. The town's cult of children are apparantly in remission, maintaining a facade of normalcy in a community where adults now live as well, the children of the cult biding their time and waiting for some kind of promised dark messiah. I don't really know how closely this fits into the overall series continuity; after seeing this I decided to see all the other chapters but have only seen the follow-up, "Revelation", a good movie but not on par with this one and quite unconnected to it. The previous chapters can't be found for rent and I've already decided I'm going to have to eventually buy them sight unseen (the only reason I haven't done so yet is there are about 500 other movies on my personal 'waiting-to-be-bought' list) but haven't seen them yet, so I don't know if everything fits together or not.

A soaring high point of the movie is a romantic angle which I won't go into too much here, occuring as it does later in the movie. It includes one tremendously sexy scene that achieves its appeal not by being especially overt (not that I'm opposed to other, more openly sexy scenes in different movies), but through the high romanticism and beautiful tenderness. And yes, the female character's limited clothing in the scene certainly doesn't hurt things either, although it would have been gorgeous even without that added benefit.

Intelligent, suspenseful, and well-acted, this is highly recommended for either longtime fans of the series or those who (like me) never were into it before. I might even give the original another try someday and see if there's something there I missed. My only grievance is the ending - this isn't giving anything away, but it could have gone in either of two directions and I would have preferred the road they didn't take. That's purely subjective and doesn't mean the final minutes weren't just as well realized as the rest of the movie. I hope there's a direct followup to this entry with the same characters - the next sequel was a totally different path and different people. Still good, but this one is awesome.

I can't believe anyone would think about putting the third Children of the Corn movie on the same level as the original and part 2. Come on, the original was the best, and the second one was really good as well. Part 3 contains cheap, ugly-looking production that doesn't have any scare factor whatsoever. The corn field is inside the city, for crying out loud. How scary can that be?

At least the fourth movie was a bit of an improvement. I would strongly recommend looking into the first two Children of the Corn movies before spending money on this low budget film. That's just my opinion though, and usually I'm wrong.

Children of the Corn in tha Hood.......2005-12-30

'Children of the Corn 3' is pretty damn entertaining. Not as good as two, but still superior to the original and well worth watching. It's certainly never effective as a straight horror movie, but it's got plenty of camp appeal and some amusing gore. This one is sorta vaguely related to the original central story, as it's about little creepy Eli and larger, normal Joshua who are adopted brothers. At the films beginning Eli murders his adopted father so they have to move in with a foster family... IN THE CITY!!!!! Eli is some sorta evil corn warlock and he starts killin' people for no particular reason and works on a scheme to feed tainted super-corn to all the world with the unwitting help of their foster father, who is some sort of corn magnate. What's worse, Eli starts preaching at the toughest Catholic school in the hood and starts converting everyone, to create a whole new pack of corn children! That all sounds pretty silly, I'm sure, and it is, but they try to take is seriously, which is nice. Intentionally camp movie do work sometimes, but they can rarely compare to something which was meant to be taken seriously. Though actually, I don't wanna be to hard on it, as it's actually more competent than a lotta films of this caliber. I get the feeling that the director could manage a pretty decent horror movie if he had a decent script and a moderate budget. But this is what we got, and there ain't much they can do with this plot, and the dude who plays Eli just ain't menacing, like Malachi was in the first one. Still, it's pretty awesome, with a nice scarecrow attack, a corncifiction, a big scary corn monster that eats a doll, some computer generated fireballs, a crazy agitated priest, a chick totally melting, a corn-thieving hobo who gets his comeuppance, icky bugs, a scary corn-bible and a glimpse into the mysterious world of international corn trade. If all that hasn't convinced you that you need to see 'Children of the Corn 3', that I don't think it's gonna happen. Also, Charlize Theron has a small role as one of the new Children of the Corn towards the end. Not that I can imagine why you'd care, though it does show how life really can change- in ten years she went all the way from 'Children of the Corn 3' to... ... .... ...'Aeon Flux'. You've come a long way, baby.

Decent movie though the ending is rotten.......2005-01-20

Despite the rotten ending this direct-to-video movie has good special effects and a few effective scenes. Two brothers move to Chicago and one of them is the children them of the corn and move with a foster family and the weird thing is the dad dislikes the older brother while the mom hates the younger brother. The other brother brings seeds that grow a cornfield in a vacant lot and rise the evil spirits and soon weird things start happening. Screaming Mad George's special effects are good especially the teen getting turned into a cornstock and blood shooting everywhere though the only fake effect was when a girl was getting picked up by the cornfiled monster they used doll and you could see the small doll that looked so unrealistic. the only part that was bad was the ending which was rotten.

"Children of the Corn 3: Urban Harvest" moves far beyond the parameters established in the first film. Instead of Isaac issuing the doom and gloom prophecies of "He Who Walks Behind the Rows," we now have Eli (Daniel Cerny) stepping up to the plate. He and his older "brother" Joshua (Ron Melendez) turn up in Chicago after Joshua's father, who had the temerity to question Eli's increasingly bizarre behavior, perished in a hideous manner back on the Nebraska farm. Adopted by William Porter (Jim Metzler)--a big shot at an agricultural firm specializing in the creation of resistant grains--and his wife Amanda (Nancy Lee Grahn), Eli and Joshua seem like fish out of water in the Windy City. Right from the start it's obvious that Eli is a little strange; it is also obvious that he has some sort of weird hold over Joshua. How odd is the pint-sized preacher? His new mother opens his suitcase only to find it packed full of ears of corn covered in huge bugs. Screeching like a banshee, Alice is astonished to discover that the insects were just a hallucination of some sort. Hmmm. Anyway, Eli soon realizes that a huge, abandoned warehouse right next door to the house provides fertile ground for a few rows of special corn. This crop grows to full height in a matter of hours, is impervious to disease and other forms of damage, and tastes great.

William Porter soon learns about the crop and dreams about how much money he can make selling these plants around the world, an idea encouraged by Eli. In the meantime, the two kids enroll in a Catholic school run by the kindly Father Frank Nolan (Michael Ensign). Eli continues to try and control Joshua, but his influence seems on the wane. With the help of Malcolm (Jon Clair) and his cute sister Maria (Nari Morrow), Joshua begins to emerge from his shell. He takes up basketball despite Eli's objections, and even strikes up a physical relationship with Maria. The young preacher turns his attention to the other kids in school, lecturing them about the importance of children in scripture and thus usurping Father Frank's authority. He even stands up one day during services to relate his interpretations of the holy word. Predictably, the kids soon fall under Eli's power. Joshua, with the help of Malcolm, heads back to Nebraska to unearth an important book buried there by Eli that just might help defeat the evil intentions of "He Who Walks Behind the Rows" and his earthly minion. We finally see the incarnation of this demon when Eli holds a ceremony in the warehouse. The film ends on one of those "the evil goes on even though we thought it was over" themes.

Actually, "Children of the Corn 3" isn't half bad. Director James D.R. Hickox is well known as a purveyor of schlocky yet entertaining low budget horror, so maybe that has something to do with it. I got a real kick out of the Eli character, who I thought looked like a miniature version of a certain "Grease 2" star (The movie should carry the title "Honey, I Shrunk Adrian Zmed"). He's not as eerie as Isaac in the first one, but he does carry a certain unease about him. The guy who played Father Frank was a real hoot, too. His hysterics make Rod Steiger's priest in "The Amityville Horror" look tame by comparison. But what really takes the cake in "Corn 3" are the imaginative kill scenes and cheesy special effects. A head bursting into flames, a combination garden tool/pipe atrocity, and people torn apart by "He Who Walks Behind the Rows" insures a good time for all. The model the filmmakers used to depict the corn demon, however, looks woefully inadequate. At one point the beastie snacks on a kid, but it's so obvious that the crew stuck a doll in the creature's mouth that I howled with laughter for hours afterwards. By the way, Charlize Theron appears in a bit part as one of Eli's followers during the final showdown.

Trailers for parts four, five, and six of "Children of the Corn," "Dracula 2000," "Halloween: H20," and "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers" are the only extras on the disc. I would recommend "Children of the Corn 3" over most of the other entries in the series. Sure, it is cheap and cheesy, but it's also a lot of fun. There are worse ways to spend a couple of hours of your time.

I am getting sick and tired of people making uneeded sequels to movies like the original C.O.T.C. Quit this sequel crap, please. If you want to se a good sequel running series, watch Friday The 13th.

I kinda liked this one.......2006-01-11

After totally going to hell with 5 and the very slight redemption of 6 things kinda get back on track with the CotC series. That said, this film is thoroughly mediocre, but, again, after those last two flicks mediocre is looking pretty good. The plot is your standard CotC rehash, and it is way light on the gore, not that most of these films were usually very gory, but it's a more involving and generally quite nice looking film. Unlike in the previous two entries, one gets the impression that the director actually cared about the film, and tried to make it be good. This films is probably the slickest, sharpest film in the series, and it has some nice creepy looking locales and a lot of fine atmospheric lighting. Quite a bit of colored lighting too, one gets the impression that the director may be an Argento or Bava fan. (Note the pulsing green light, in particular. Very Argento-esque.) Still, after a relatively effective buildup the ending is more anemic than usual. Again, there is no real gore to speak of, which is liable to kill the climax of any CotC film. Also, it does have some really, really lame CG effects. However, there is a scene where a chick gets attacked by a bunch of corn stalks while taking a bath. That was pretty amusing. Also, Michael Ironside has a very small role. He doesn't seem to care at all, but it's still kinda fun for him to show up. Dialogue and plot are, as usual, minimal and unimpressive, but whaddya expect with a CotC film, particularly the seventh one.

Anyway, I was amused. If you've come this far you might as well go all the way. That, and this *is* a relative high point for the series, so it's a decent enough ending.

i hate to say this,but this is a terrible sequel.i usually like COTC,a lot.1-3 were good and i haven't seen 4-6 yet so i can't tell you about those.But this one, no i don't like this one.i wouldn't recommend this to anyone(unless you want to see someone you hate suffer).

"Children of the Corn 7: Revelation" is apparently the end of the road (row?) for one of the most unlikely horror film franchises in history. Once again, another hapless female falls prey to the malevolent corn cult and its evil machinations. On this outing the individual in question is Jamie (Claudette Mink), a young professional who heads to the Midwest to check up on her ailing grandmother at Hampton Arms, a condemned structure housing a host of miscreants and other assorted characters. Grandma disappears immediately before Jamie arrives at the building, so the young lady decides to stay in the old woman's apartment in an effort to discover the causes of the disappearance. Jamie runs into a lot of opposition to her various inquiries right from the start. Armbrister (Kyle Cassidy), a cop at the police station, initially doesn't take her missing person's report seriously. A visit to a few of the neighbors in the building doesn't pan out at first, either. The resident stoner Jerry (Troy Yorke) is so out of it an a regular basis that he couldn't tell Jamie what time it is let alone what happened to her grandmother. Then there is Tiffany (Crystal Lowe), a woman who works at the local gentleman's club, who is friendly but generally unable to help. An old guy rolling around the hallways in a wheelchair shouting incoherently is, sad to say, just as unhelpful.

Needless to say, events occur that soon shed light on Jamie's quandary. She glimpses silent kids moving around the building and the neighborhood, children who never say a word but just look ominous. She also hears children laughing when no one is around. Too, the discovery of a picture in grandma's bible offers a cryptic clue, as does the presence of a bizarre room in the basement filled with corn guarded by a strange man with guns and a heart condition. Then tenants start perishing: Jerry takes a header off the roof and Tiffany takes a final, fatal bath. The children even silence wheelchair guy. As a way to announce that a tenant has moved to the other side, cornhusk wreathes appear on apartment doors. What the heck is going on at Hampton Arms? Thanks to Jamie and Armbrister, a story emerges that provides a few answers. Some seventy-five years ago or so, a corn cult lead by child preacher Abel (Sean Smith) perished in a huge tent fire on the ground that is now Hampton Arms. Jamie's grandmother was the only survivor, and it appears that all of these children are actually ghosts come back to claim grandma's soul. Or something like that. Now Jamie and the cop must try to destroy the building in order to send these corn worshipping kiddies back to who knows where.

This movie doesn't make much sense. I'll buy the idea of the corn cult coming back to claim Jamie's grandmother, but I don't understand why they felt the need to kill all of the other residents. Why do such a thing? Hampton Arms is a condemned building that will fall under the wrecking ball at some point in the future, so why worry about who lives there? Are these ghosts operating under a strict timetable that requires them to clear the area RIGHT NOW or face some supernatural punishment? For that matter, Jamie's grandmother wasn't exactly a spring chicken. Why not just wait for her to pass away from natural causes and then reclaim her soul? The answer is probably an easy one: the script says the kids have to come back and kill so the movie can show gory murders. Problem is, the movie isn't that gory. The only memorable scene involves a storekeeper's head sitting in a freezer. This movie spends more time building the characters and trying to imbue the picture with creepy atmosphere, with decidedly mixed results. "Revelation" does give us Michael Ironside in what amounts to a totally useless cameo as a priest investigating the corn cult.

Extras on the disc consist of trailers for parts four, five, and six of "Children of the Corn," "Mimic 2," "Dracula 2000," "Halloween: H20," and "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers." Perhaps "Revelation" is a fitting end to the "Children of the Corn" franchise, but the only revelation I received after watching this film is that the whole series should have ended much sooner. I wondered as the credits rolled if this was truly the end. Never say never when dealing with a story from Stephen King.

This movie was awful. Apart from the bad acting, the killings were funny too. They characters had no development either, they were all unnecessary. It wasn't scary at all, just funny. LOOK OUT FOR THE KILLER CORN! AAAH! The high point of the movie is when you see the gun-nut character in his apartment. If you look to the left of him right after he closes the door, you can see the mic in the mirror! I laughed for about 5 minutes after that one. Don't waste your time on this garbage.
