Description
Writer/director Dante Tomaselli's atmospheric and terrorizing first feature film. One of the most original horror films in recent years, "Desecration" is an eerily dazzling and genuinely frightening psychological chiller about a beyond-the-grave relationship between a teenage boy and his long-dead mother. Bobby, a 16-year-old loner, has been emotionally damaged by his mother's early death and a repressive Catholic upbringing. The boy accidentally causes a nun's death, triggering a chain of supernatural events and violent mayhem that leads Bobby into Hell to confront his mother. Powerful childhood demons are exorcised and unleashed as the gates of Hell open in this gripping, hallucinatory film.

Pretty bad.......2005-10-18
I'm always looking for a good haunted house/ghost flick, and I have to say I haven't seen a good new one in years. Instead of something new, here we have a movie that borrows aspects and ideas from a bunch of other haunted house/horror flicks and combines them into one... making this very unoriginal and very dull. Watch The Shining, Poltergeist, The Changeling, Amityville Horror, and others instead of watching this rip off flick.
High-Quality Horror/Suspense In The Veins Of "Amityville" And "Sixth Sense".......2005-08-19
A couple grieving the loss of their recently deceased child move into an old house in the countryside to try and recover and begin living again in this under-rated mystery/horror movie. Upon arriving the wife of the couple (Amanda Plummer; Sean Pewtree plays her husband) begins receiving 'messages' that her days are numbered, with the first one indicating she has one week of life left (hence the title), the following day's indicating six days to live, and so on. No one else is able to perceive these 'messages' or find any evidence of them, raising the possibility of whether this is all in the traumatized mother's head. Solid acting, a storyline that isn't easy to predict, and good atmosphere make this a high-caliber fright, recommended for fans of "The Amityville Horror", "Haunted" (1995 with Kate Beckinsale), "Witchboard", "The Sixth Sense" and "The Devil's Backbone".
1.5 STARS: This is a tired script........2005-07-04
One cannot help but notice after watching "7 Days To Live" that the script has run its course. In this movie, the acting is slightly below average although not terrible, but coupled with the fact that this is a very tired script inferior in every way to its predecessors, "7 Days To Live" simply is not a very good movie.
There are some creepy moments, but after seeing "The Shining", "Poltergeist" and "The Ring" ("The Ring" may have been made after this movie, but "Ringu" was made prior to both" which are all superior to this movie, "7 Days To Live" comes across rather boring and lacking in substance and style. There is no question that "7 Days To Live" borrows significantly from the abovementioned movies, but if one is going to try and make a movie like this, the acting and directing must be exceptional and the script must have a charm of its own of some sort which separates it from movies that went before it...such is not the case here. The result is a movie which is largely ineffective and downright boring as a horror movie.
I generously give "7 Days To Live" 1.5 STARS for effort, but the bottom line is that you cannot make a movie like this with average to slightly below average acting, a generic script and average directing and still expect the movie to be an effective horror movie because there are just too many other movies like this that are of a better quality.
7 Days of HATE.......2005-06-29
Look, I think the person who gave this movie 5 stars must be under the age of 12. This is not a scary movie - no matter how you look at it. The other reviewers are absolutely correct in saying that this is trying to be a cheap, boring version of Stephen King's "The Shining"...and let's face it, the director of 7 Days to Live is no Stanley Krubrick - not even close! The script is poorly written, the plot is cheesy and needs severe tightening and the acting, though not terrible, is not very good. Don't waste your money. I only spent about six bucks on this movie and regret every dollar of it.
Unexplained phenomena........2004-02-23
The worst thing about this straight to video snoozer is that the titular dilemma is never explained. 7 DAYS TO LIVE isn't very scary either and suffers greatly from a poor script. After a somewhat decent set up involving the tragicly gruesome death of their son, Helen (PLUMMER) and Martin (PERTWEE) Shaw move to the country into a house that upon physical appearance is blatantly haunted. The reasoning for the house being haunted is because construction companies can't seem to stop building houses on the mass graves of the restless dead, or so it is in moviedom anyway. Needless to say "spooky" stuff starts happening and the film goes downhill from there. Helen begins witnessing what she thinks is a seven day countdown to her demise, but why the haunters would do this is never expained, instead we are given a SHINING like mad husband scenario that plays out like the cheaply made flick this is. The special fx at the end are really bad as well, reminding the viewer that some low budget films can be inventive, and this isn't one of them. By the end of the film nothing is given substantial closure or reason. Not as creepy as a lot of reviews have stated, and if you are a fan of psycological horror this film will not satisfy your appetite the way movies like THE RING or THE SHINING do. Below average haunted house schlock.

Looks good but leaves you with no answers.......2006-10-02
Apparently "Desecration" is a low budget, independant film. Well, I will give it full credit for working on a low budget as it visually belies such humble origins. The film looks wonderful most of the time. Sadly, what it doesn't have is a decent story.
There really isn't much plot to describe. What I do know is that a boy called Bobby is currently attending a religeous school, and his life is blighted by two tragedies. First was the loss of his mother at an early age, and more recently his accidental killing of a nun by his out of control model aircraft which flies into her face, killing her outright (!). But from this early promising start, the film almost immediately gets lost in constant and unexplained "surreal" imagery. The young boy is haunted and hounded by apparitions of the dead nun, and the rest of the school is similarly troubled, as other nuns start to experience various paranormal manifestations, including one quite startling sequence (probably the one most people are going to remember) in which a nun is attacked by a floating pair of scissors. Bobby starts suffering from vivid and macabre nightmares in which he is chased by clowns or attacked by the ghoulish dead nun or surrounded by evil sprouting plants. Some of them involve his dead mother, but why does she appear to be the same person as the nun who was killed by the model aeroplane?
This all looks very impressive on screen, but after about 60 minutes of such whacky imagery, it started to dawn on me that the film didn't really have a lot else to offer other than this. And even though I was concentrating, the amount of screen time devoted to explaining what on earth was going on was about 45 seconds worth - it's during Bobby's grandmother's visit to a clairvoyant who blurts out the only clue in the whole movie - and a pretty daft one it is too. So prepare yourself for a very pretty ride but with no resolution or explanation of the sights along the way. Although a lot of the visuals are really good - the scissor attack and some of Bobby's hallucinations like the changing painting of a nun that he watches on a wall - they have to be linked up by something a bit better than this. Don't get me wrong, I do like surreal cinema, and enjoy an enigmatic horror movie, like, say "Lisa and The Devil". But Dante Tomaselli is no Mario Bava, and he needs to go a long way before equalling that kind of level. And even "Lisa" has an ending... "Desceration" has none! The film just stops, with not a single plot line tied up - I could scarely believe my eyes when the end credits started rolling, as I felt like I deserved some kind of pay-off for devoting 90 minutes to watching the thing.
Sorry, but for me this is extremely unsatisfying. There are two ways this might have worked: it either needed to explain the plot properly, or else just give the whole film over to the hallucinatory experiences of the central character. I can cope with intentional illogicality, but I don't honestly think the film is supposed to be quite so confusing. I think it just fails to successfully serve the story that is supposed to go with the evocative imagery. And the lack of an ending is unforgiveable.
Dante's Terror.......2006-06-12
I thought this was a very interesting show when I saw back a few years.Saw it again a fews back and even enjoyed better than I remembered. Lot's of sub plots and things going on all the same time. I found this very satisfing and strongly suggest that you get a copy if you can. They are getting very hard to find.
Dante is a true master of the medium.......2006-03-08
From what I understand, Dante Tomaselli is being considered for directing the new "Halloween 9". I believe that a big-budget horror movie in the hands of Dante Tomaselli could easily wind up a classic of the genre. There is a petition here: http://www.petitiononline.com/dth9/petition.html that you can sign if you'd like to see that too. If you love his movies so far, imagine what he could do with a big budget.
Desecration of the art of cinema.......2005-10-08
Bought desecration on a whim, reading all the good reviews (what drugs are you guys on??), but this movie is complete low budget trash. It has absolutely no redeeming quality except for taking the prize of being the absolutely worst movie in my DVD collection. There is art, there is ingenuity, and there is beauty, but Desecration contains none of that. It's Just. Plain. Crap.
Desecration indeed.......2005-03-07
Tomaselli displays the narrative precision and sure directorial hand of a young Ed Wood. I've seen plenty of admirable low budget movies. This isn't one of them. The problem here isn't the budget, it's the mind (make that "mind") behind this steaming pile of crap. I may have seen worse but I'm drawing a blank. Conclusively disproves the adage that it takes a great director to make a truly bad movie.
