Bad movie? Sure, but a lot of fun........2007-05-04

In many ways Zombie 3 can be seen as the end of an era; around this time the tide was starting to turn against horror and Italian horror cinema was reaching the end of the high point of its popularity.

Zombie 3 is also one of the last movies by Lucio Fulci that gained a large cult following, while Fulci would go and make 7 more movies, some of which have gained a following I would say Zombie 3 is the more well known among Fulci fans.

Zombie 3 is probably one of Lucio Fulci's lesser efforts; even in some of his weaker films, Lucio Fulci was able to build some tension and atmosphere and sometimes make a movie creepier than it should have been, where as other times he was able to do that, but unable to sustain it.

This time around there really isn't anything Fulci about the movie; apparently at the time he was sick and I think that shows. Honestly there is nothing Fulci about this movie at all. Lucio Fulci had a certain style. When you watch a Fulci movie good or bad you know its Fulci. Even though about half the movie was shot by Bruno Mattei, the scenes that were done by Fulci bare no resemblance to his past work. The visual style Fulci was so known for isn't seen at all here.

Claudio Fragasso wrote the script along with his wife Rossella Drudi who was un-credited. According to Fragasso, Fulci was dumping pages he said were too complex too shoot. Based on some other interviews with Fragasso he normally has an excuse on why his movies come out so poor.

True or not the script is obviously weak so it really doesn't matter if what Claudio Fragasso is true or not.

The funny thing is Fragasso and Rossella Drudi actually have a hint of a plot a clichéd one, but a plot nonetheless, the movie also attempts some social commentary, but the movie is so poorly written all this is lost and it comes out really silly.

After the movie was shot it ran at 70-min and was said to be too slow. The movie was chopped down to 50-min and Fulci refused to do any reshoots.

So in comes in Bruno Mattei who finished the movie along with Claudio Fragasso. Quite honestly this is probably Mattei's best work, which really isn't saying much. Make no mistake Zombie 3 is a bad movie, but that is why I love it.

The characters are idiots who say the dumbest things, but yet I loved every second of the movie. As for the zombies they range from slow moving to rather fast. Some zombies have a few lines and others are silent.

The highlight for me was the zombie with the machete I found that scene hysterical. We also have a very funny scene with a flying zombie head, now that was classic. And we even have zombie birds. I love how different the zombies are. As I said one minute they are really slow and weak the next fast and strong. Neither Fulci nor Mattei stuck to anything with the zombies.

The gore is fairly decent; it's not the gorefest like some of Fulci's prior work, but Zombie 3 has some decent gore, but could have used a bit more. But gore-hounds should be pleased.

Zombie 3 very much is the so bad its good movie. It's idiotic and poorly done, but a blast to watch. Though I will say if you are new to Lucio Fulci I would recommend working your way up to Zombie 3. In my opinion this movie doesn't show Lucio Fulci is about. While yes his movies do have their flaws, but he's a much better director than what he shows here.

For those interested in buying this movie I would recommend getting the Zombie Pack. The set includes Zombie 3, Zombie 4: After Death & Zombie 5: Killing Birds. The set is cheaper than any of the movies solo.

The information here on Amazon is wrong, Zombie 3 is Un-rated and not R-Rated, also the aspect ratio is actually 1.85:1 and not 1.33:1.

i love gore movies and i am willing to over look alot of things when watching one,but this is just the worst! not even the gory can cover up the weak production that they have given us here!!! save your movie and buy ANYTHING ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!

actually, a little better than zombi 2........2006-06-22

I really like this movie. Whats great about it is that it has some pretty great zombie-gore effects (the zombie baby, and when blue-heart turns into a zombie)and at the same time seems like a Family Guy-random in-joke just waiting to happen. Some of it is pretty hilarious. Theres also a ton of locations in this movie. helicopter shots, about a million set pieces, its like they had the phillipines to themselves when making this. the music reminds me of street fighter II turbo. I didn't like the commentary, though. Daran Sarafian shouldn't be so cruel to Beatrice Ring for all the dumb things she says, English is a second language for her after all. theres a lot of interviews on this disc. Beatrice Ring looks better now than when she made this movie. just make sure you get it with the zombie pack.

3 movies, 3 misses.......2005-09-17

The first film on this disc is Garden of the Dead- clocking in at a little over an hour, even though it sucks, you won't feel like you wasted too much time (uh, right). The premise, and I'm not giving anything away because you smell it coming a mile away, is: Formaldihyde + prison workers = zombies. I can't say I enjoyed this, save for the prison camp signs written in magic marker. The second film is titled Unspeakable- scenario: car accident causes father's remorse, causes wife to be a vegetable, causes husband to kill & causes wife to have uncontrollable bowel problems(and her physical therapist loves her for it, yuk!)- this movie sucked also. The last movie, I believe, is titled Buttcrack??? not too sure, because after enduring the first two films, I simply couldn't be bothered with the last one.

Oh yeah, a real "special feature." At the beginning of the DVD, before the menu comes up, you get Kaufman being an idiot. I wasn't able to skip through it or anything. I just threw it on, did the laundry, walked the dog, learned the language of the written Egyptians, and took my girlfriend to lunch. Then I went back and the menu was there. Ok. Now it gets good.

Garden of the Dead-- This movie isn't too bad. Too bad it's boring, though. So boring. I just kinda sat there, wishing it was worse so I could shut it off. The ending was pretty flat too. The story is this: a bunch of prisoners have been getting high off formaldahyde fumes. Well, maybe it's something else because they attempt a breakout, all get killed, and then come back to kill the guards and the prisoners who didn't want to go with them. There's absolutley no gore. The "zombies" just run up to ppl with axes in their hands and slam into them with their shoulders. Bam. The person is dead. Or they have the view of them "hacking" the person up half-obstructed by a car or a fence. Blah. I suppose it's done better than most low-budget films. I mean, it's better to see that than horribly fake effects.
The movie's alright. Just boring, boring, boring.

Buttcrack-- Well, I was definitely not expecting anything good from this movie. It's about a guy and his roommate. The guy wants to propose, but hte roommate keeps ruining it. Then the roommate goes to take a bath, and has the radio on super loud. The guy goes, tries to shut it off, but is too flustered and he ends up dropping it in the bath, electorcuting the roommate. Then the roommates sister brings him back for revenge.

The acting is terrible. Simply terrible. O man. It's SO bad. I can't emphasize this enough. The only bright spot is Mojo Nixon as PREACHER MAN BOB.

But somehow, it's still funny. You'd have to see it to believe me.

Unspeakable-- Pure sickness. It's really good, though. The plot's complicated. I don't want to say anything because it might ruin things. It's a good movie, but I don't really want to watch it again for a long time. It's disturbing.

It's a good set if you've got an open mind. And if you're looking to buy anything put out by Troma, I'm sure you do.

Not for you if you are looking for *un-interrupted* videos .......2006-03-16

I don't know what it is about people who produce these compilations. They seem to be convinced that us video music fans simply prefer to have people TALKING ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE VIDEOS!

I bought this thinking the interviews were separate from the videos and for about 6.00 used, how could anyone go wrong?

In short, if you are looking for the actual, complete, *un-interrupted* videos (or interviews) from these artists, save your money.

AMAZON - PLEASE TAKE GREATER TIME IN MAKING THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN "VIDEO COMPILATION" AND "VIDEO DOCUMENTARY" - COULDA SAVED ME A LOT OF MONEY!!!!

I've got an idea, how about a separate section for interviews??? - Ya think these discs might actually sell???

Great bands on vol. 3: Primus rules all!!!.......2003-03-14

Being a huge Primus fan this was a great find. The band has been on hiatus for 3 years and now this is a nice Primus fix. Also included is Rollins Band and Pantera and White Zombie. If you like any of these bands do yourself a favor and Pick it up.

the ultimate cheesy, sleazy, euro horror fun flick!.......2006-11-18

zombie holocaust is one of the stupidest films you'll ever watch. the plot dosnt make sense, the acting is mediocre and over the top gore is so bizzare, its almost laughable. but, with all that said, this is also one of the coolest, most fun films you'll ever watch. the story has something to do with some lady going into the jungle in search of answers to bizzare cannibalistic acts occuring in new york. the rest of the film consists of the cast being torn to peices by cannibals or opperated on by an insane doctor. right about now your probably asking yourself were the zombies enter the mix, and that is zombie holocausts biggest letdown. although the title promises zombies, the audience is graced with only about 7 minutes of zombie action. well, action might not be the right word because all the zombies do is emerge fom the jungle and look funny in their strange clay makeup. one hopeless zombie almost steals the show when he nearly sneaks up on a couple of humans, but they notice him and evicerate his head with a boat motor. the movie may not deliver much zombie, but it definately delivers on the holocuast factor. the movie is jam packed with dismemberment, intestine ripping, eye gouging, neck slicing, blood spurting gore. this film should apeal to many audiences of the euro sleaze genre including cannibal, zombie and mad scientist enthusiasts. the main thing you have to remember while watching zombie holocuast is not to take it seriously which shouldnt be to hard since the movies so absurd. great movie to watch if youve had a bad day.

OK this is a Cannibal movie people not a zombie movie..................2006-09-13

This movie is called Zombie Holocaust............well for a movie to be called that you would think there would be Zombies terrorizing things and ripping flesh off humans, right? Well, in this movie the Zombies are only in the movie for maybe 5 mins and do jack. All they do is come out of nowhere and make a gggggg noise that scares the Cannibals away. The movie starts in New York for about 15 mins maybe then the people finally make it to the island that was used in Lucio Fulci's Zombie 2 AKA Zombie, and to make things worse they also take 3 scenes out of Lucio Fulci's Zombie movie when they are on the island in this car driving around through the village. This movie for the most part does have very good gore scenes through out the movie. I would recommend it to any one who likes Cannibal movies, but if you are looking for a good Zombie flick then you have ran out of luck with this one.

This movie comes UNrated, Uncut, and remastered in anamorphic widescreen.

A classic.......2006-04-20

All these italian zombie/cannibal movies are so bad that they turn out to be amazingly great, In all these films they have, great cinematography, plenty of gore, and gratiutous nudity. If you like italian zombie films this one has it all exept in this one the zombies save the day pretty much... one thing what was up with the 2 zombies listing to Dr Butcher when he asked them to hold down the reporter who played in zombie??? I thought it was hilarious anyway.

Another Italian Cannibal/Zombie movie........2006-03-14

I am watching too many of these Italian movies. I am starting to recognize the people from other movies and be familiar with the names of actors/music/special effects from other movies.

I really should stop watching them because I really don't like them very much. I am more interested in gore comedy and these gore movies without the humor of a "Dead Alive" or "Terror Firmer" tend to bore me.

This movie is more for the straight gore fan. There is someone stealing body parts in a hospital. There is a mad doctor taking off skull caps and changing brains. There is cannibalism. There is a machete stuck in someone's head for self-defense.

My favorite one was the main character using a boat prop to scramble a zombie's face. I wish there were more things like this and I might have enjoyed it more. It was poorly done however.

From what I have heard this is a popular cult favorite for this type of movie however the makers seem to have made it without much inspiration besides making money.

I really enjoy the special features of these types of movies (which I guess is one big reason I continue watching these types of Italian gore movies that I don't really like). I enjoy the stories behind the movies, etc.

This one had an interview with a special effects person who I recognize from the Zombi 2 bonus features (I think it was from there?). I am pretty sure the interviews for this and Zombi 2 were done in the same setting. It seemed to me this was probably done right after the interview for Zombi 2. In this one he seemed annoyed by repeated questions from the Zombi 2 interview. His attitude was an annoyed "As I said before..." like he didn't realize the previous time was for a different dvd?!

Also he was asked how the special effects were done. Basically he said he didn't remember that much about them.

He was also asked if he was satisfied with the special effects. He said he didn't ever see them on film as he has never watched "Zombi Holocaust". "I guess they turned out ok because I heard it made money".

This was different from the Zombi 2 interviews (his and others) where they were excited and proud of their work.

I have never seen special interviews where the interviewees are not interested in the movie and telling the story. It was funny to watch this.

3 1/2 STARS / A CLASSIC GOREY CHEESEFEST !.......2006-01-11

Take Lucio Fulci's "ZOMBIE 2",Umberto Lenzi's "CANNIBAL FEROX" & an extra large helping of Italian low-budget cheese,blend it all together & you have "ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST"(AKA Dr.Butcher M.D.) a very fun Italian gore film that borrows alot from the the two classics i named above & still manages to reach its own individual cult status. A must for Italian horror fans!
