2 out of 5 stars Been there, done that. And yes, the kid still sucks at acting.......2007-05-06

Almost the whole movie is about Chucky trying to become human. This isn't being creative so much as just extending the ending to the first movie. After given a new lease on life, chucky seeks out Andy and tries once again to put his soul into him. Though Chucky still has fun killing anyone who gets in his way, he somehow manages to be less creepy and more one-dimensional this time around. Not recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Probing psychological drama.......2007-02-15

Think 'Jacob's Ladder' with the subtext of Kubrick. No wait -- don't.

What's amazing about 'Child's Play 2' is that it somehow manages to be more entertaining than its predecessor. And that's a feat because the first film was so very solid, especially considering it was working with about the most ridiculous premise ever imagined; that they pulled it off with such style and effectiveness is still impressive viewing it fifteen years after its release. While this sequel isn't as good a film as the first, it's more colorful and exciting, well paced and a downright good time.

Of course, Brad Dourif is the commanding force behind the movie, as his vocal performance of Chucky is so so impassioned; he eats up near every moment. What's more is that while the film is still a scary horror outing (at least to a younger audience, as I was in the early 90's -- all three films scared me s%*@)less), it contains a lot more humor than the first. Chucky's got a generous amount of comical dialogue and his delivery is perfect. One of the more direct attempts involves Chucky beating the hell out of 'Tommy' (a regular doll that annoys Chucky with his grating, automated sayings), and I find that particular scene pretty hysterical.

One motif that is reoccurring and, again, a point of comedy, is most of the victims tendency to throw Chucky around like a rag doll before they become aware he's actually alive. The way those scenes are executed make for successful slapstick humor, and have me laughing indeed. Of course, this invariably leads to a temporary revenge response for treating him like dung, a generic gimmick that ends up still working.

The largest problem though, by far, is the logical inconsistencies, which spring up in hordes, time after time. Things just don't make sense; characters act senseless and stupid. Yet, while being contrived and a bit frustrating, I find myself not really caring, because the film is absurd anyway -- it is easily forgiven in this respect. Another bogus aspect is that this time around Chucky seems to possess a superhuman amount of strength and weight -- there are numerous examples, one being a bit where Kyle (the beautiful Christine Elise) steps on the breaks and Chucky flies through the windshield as if he was 150 pounds. Again, though, most of it's absurd, so it's not really a burden.

The film is well shot, too, the cinematography unexpectedly good at times. And the acting, surprisingly, is really solid too, especially considering this is "Child's Play 2", the god forsaken sequel to a killer doll flick (!!!). Lastly, it's easily the most colorful of the original trilogy, and this makes it more endearing than the others (and not as dark, for sure); along these lines, it also makes for a result that warrants repeated viewings without succumbing to boredom. The doll effects are also admirable, probably even better than the original.

The last twenty minutes of the movie are the wackiest, taking place in the doll factory. Chucky seemingly dies about four times. THE most glaring goof in the movie comes when Chucky becomes completely mutilated by some sort of steam machine, and when we see him, he is nothing but a mishmash of doll skin; he is completely unrecognizable. Two shots later -- somehow -- his upper body and face is completely back to normal; I'm not sure how they could have overlooked this little bit. But who cares.

4 stars might seem crazy (I consider myself pretty critical of movies, mostly), but I like the movie too damn much.

5 out of 5 stars The #1 Oh Wait #2 Horror Film.......2006-06-14

This is the best chucky movie, and the best horror film of all time! This is a lot better then the original. It was a good Introduction which was rebuilting the doll. Only Andy and Chucky are back! Now how about that?! And I've never seen the movie till I bought it. It is starring ALEX VINCET. He's almost the main charactor, but you know who the real one is! There were funny parts, EXCPECIALLY the part where Kyle throws the boxes of the the dolls in the factory a chucky, and it the funniest voice he screams: "WHAT THE HELL!??"
And it's REALLY scary too. Watch at night. I don't want to give away the ending. That was funny, lots of gore and languege, don't buy unless your over 15! BUY IT!

Director: John Lafia
Cast: Alex Vincent, Jenny Agutter, Gerrit Graham, Christine Elise, Brad Dourif, Grace Zabriskie, Peter Haskell, Beth Grant.
Running Time: 84 minutes
Rated R for violence, language, and gore.

"Child's Play" (1988) surprised horror fans worldwide because it wasn't as cheesy as thought. In fact, it's a great horror movie with an interesting premise, good direction, great acting, and some scary moments. I wish I could say the same about the direct 1990 sequel "Child's Play 2". Obviously this sequel was very rushed and came when it shouldn't. Spending more time on a script and another choice for director could've helped this to become a decent sequel. After the traumatic events of "Child's Play", Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) is separated from his mother and both are under psychological treatment. Then Andy is settled with an adoptive family formed by Mr. and Mrs. Simpson (Gerrit Graham and Jenny Agutter) and Kyle (Christine Elise), an orphan troubled girl also adopted by the Simpsons. Police denied Andy and his mother's version of the events and close the case making the events of the original movie as non existent. Executives and the President of the "Good Guy" company needed an official explanation in order to shut down rumors spread by tabloids about a possessed Good Guy doll. Engineers of the company explore and repair the rests of the supposedly possessed doll and do not find any abnormality. Suddenly lightning strikes the doll and one of the producing engineers gets electrocuted and dies. Chucky is resurrected that way and once again starts his search for Andy in order to get his soul out of the body and pass it on Andy's.

There's a little more bloodshed, a few more victims and more screen time for Chucky but all in all, this movie is not particularly fulfilling. Fans of the original may be impressed by the extra screen time for the foul-mouthed, murdering toy Chucky, but on subsequent viewings the movie no longer stands up. The plot leaves a lot to be desired and the characters all seem rather wooden and unrealistic. A pre-`Beverly Hills 90210' Christine Elise plays Kyle, the only character in the movie that may garner any audience sympathy and respect and even she seems dull and contrived throughout the movie. `Child's Play 2' had no input from original creator Tom Holland and it certainly shows through as the general direction and execution of this movie is poor. The final ten minutes or so of the film are the only moments that really seem to shine through but this is too little, too late from writer Don Mancini and director John Lafia. Other than the finale, it's just a far too logical next step from the original and tries too hard to capture the good parts of that movie without trying to improve upon them. A little more humor is added to the mix but still the movie offers nothing of any real distinction to be a satisfactory sequel.

4 out of 5 stars great box set!.......2006-09-12

you i know that i love box sets and i love this childs play box set as well the only bad thing is that the 1st inst in it because its mgm,,but thats fine. these movie scared me when i was a boy but know watching it you can really find the dark humor in it. alot of people will dog this movie like Michael "Critical Writing" but what does he know, all the movies he likes all suck anyway,,because honestly how can a lord of the rings nerd talk trash about chucky.... but anyway this is a great buy if you like horror/dark comedies!

5 out of 5 stars A Horror Movie Icon..........2006-04-23

It's been hard to write a review for the Child Play movies since I haven't seen one in a long time. I rented them from Blockbusters and watched them. I thought they were extremely good, but I did think that the 3rd Child Play was sort of dumb. My favorite of this set has to be Bride of Chucky. I just found it hilarious.

4 out of 5 stars to answer the guy before me..........2006-03-20

ok to answer the guy below me who seems to think chucky is better than jason and michael myers..the reason people put chucky down he is to inconsistent in the value of the films..childs play ruled, childs play 2 was pretty good, and
then there isnt a good chucky until seed of chucky which is sub par... so to answer your question why do we put chucky down but hold jason and michael high...in short they kick ass chucky got soft..kk..im out buhbye

3 out of 5 stars You Can't Keep A Good Guy Down.......2006-03-16

First off I was a lil disappointed that the first one wasn't in the box.. But I picked it up brand new for $5 so it wasn't that big of a deal. Child's Play 2 was fairly decent. 3 However... Well let's not go there. I haven't sat thru that one since I saw it in theaters.. I'll give it another watch eventually. Bride of Chucky wasn't a great movie but it was fun. Chucky and his comments make the movie worth watching. Jennifer Tilly's not bad either ;)

I want to know why people really feel the need to bash Chucky? I think he's better to watch than Michael Myers (Halloween), Pin Head (Hellraiser) & Jason Vorhees (Friday the 13th)

Chucky = ratings.

5 out of 5 stars Don't .... with the Chuck.......2005-10-05

I love Chuckie! He's such a great character that I never get tired of watching! This is a great collection with 3 great movies. In order from the best to worst: Child's Play 2, Bride of Chuckie, Child's Play 3. If a movie had a horrible plot, if you put Chuckie in it, I would be willing to watch it... Chuckie just adds this sort of funny yet scary and evil combination that adds humor and greatness to any movie. Whatever you do, just don't .... with the Chuck!

Buy the Childs play pack that includes part 3 rather then this. I dont know why part 3 isnt included here, or why they would group 2 and 4 together?

Instead of this, buy Childs play 1. and "The Chucky Collection"(bride of chucky/childs play2/childs play 3)

4 out of 5 stars The two best Childs Play movies in one cool collection.......2003-02-20

Who could forget precious memories from CP2- the teacher ruler bashing scene, or the painful 'dad on the stairs scene' I was totally blown away by these movies when i was a kid and still love them today.

Bride of chucky is the best, being the most dark, gothic and edgy out of all the CP movies.

If you like good horror movie classics, or just want to see a doll trying to kill a little kid (or two dolls having sex, as in the cas of BOC) you have to get this collection. Commentaries on the BOC disk are fascinating.

For ten years the tortured soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray has been imprisoned inside a child's doll. Chucky is reborn when his old girlfriend, Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) rescues his battered doll parts from a police impound. But Chucky wants his new playmate cut down to size, so he transforms his blushing bride into a stunning little terror. Who knows what will happen next when this dinamic dual hits the streets!

5 out of 5 stars WHERE IS CHILD'S PLAY 3 ??????????.......2001-06-21

I absolutley adore the child's play movies. Both of these movies are great. In Child's Play 2 Andy Barclay is now living with foster parents and you guessed it Chucky has found him, what follows is murder, chucky funny one liners and good entertainment. In Bride of Chucky, his girlfriend (when he was a man) ressurects chucky and they end up going on a wild, gory road trip with two teenagers, Who are heading where chucky needs to go to get the amlet of his dead corpse of charles lee ray. Both movies are great and already in my collection, but My Question to UNIVERSAL IS WHERE IS THE GREAT CHILDS PLAY 3 ON DVD ??? PLEASE , PLEASE RELEASE CHILD'S PLAY 3 ON DVD UNIVERSAL.

Horror maestro Tom Holland (Fright Night) brought wit and devilish energy to this 1988 scarefest about a murderer (Brad Dourif) who wills his soul into an innocuous doll named Chucky, and reveals himself only to the toy's owner, a frightened little boy. Catherine Hicks plays the child's mother, and Chris Sarandon a detective; neither of them knows what to make of the kid's story. Monster-doll stories are always wonderfully surreal, and Child's Play is no exception. Holland oversees some finely tuned special effects that allow Chucky to express himself and do some damage--it is truly unnerving but somehow good, subversive fun. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars Hi i'm chucky wanna play?.......2007-05-18

Man this was more funnier than so called scary horror creepy or what ever you would call it but I call it funny and extremely corny but good. The notorious lakeshore strangler charles lee ray has been gunned down almost ready to die and has to find a temporary replacement body so he will not die which is chucky (brad dourif) the friendly good guy doll who is every childs friend to the end but when chucky reveals to the child andy barkley that he's alive andy must make a run from the hospital to his home and lock the doors and arm himself to defeat chucky and protect his soul from chucky who want's out of the body and andy's mom saves him from getting his soul almost taken away. Actually I own an 8 plush chucky doll chucky rules.

4 out of 5 stars The doll doesn't look scary but its MERCILESS personality makes up for that and then some.......2007-05-05

This is the movie that spawned 4 sequels (all inferior) and gave rise to one of the most well known and feared characters in horror cinema: "Chucky the killer doll."

To save himself from death, a man puts his soul into a doll because "nobody would be able to hurt" him but, more than that, he had no other choice. The doll is then bought by a mother as a birthday gift to her 6 year old son. Over the next couple of days the reincarnated Chucky is determined to settle old scores with the people who killed him. Spooky enough for you?

Alright, the doll isn't THAT scary-looking. But I just love its attitude of killing without mercy and the fact that the doll obviously enjoys killing people. I wasn't scared so much as thrilled that the doll loves doing what it does and makes an art of it and, I think deliberately, tries to be creative in how it kills people. This doll also has what has got to be THE most distinctive and recognizable laugh of any major horror figure.

It's all good fun except for one thing: The reason why I didn't give five stars is the kid (Andy) sucks at acting. I know he's just a kid but there are millions of kids out there and thousands of them could do a better job. How this kid said his lines didn't 'feel' right half the time.

One last thing: Chucky is not, in my opinion, the scariest doll in horror films. If you want to get something that involves a truly scary doll and makes Chucky look nice you should see the Trilogy of Terror. Having said that, I think that Chucky is, if not the scariest, arguably the most entertaining. It's a great movie to watch on a Friday night with a couple of friends. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you at least rent it.

    5 out of 5 stars Good beginning.......2007-01-10

This is the one that started the series off. The perfect accompaniment would be the "Chucky collection" which contains 2-5. Saves you from purchasing them seperately. A must have if you are a fan of the films

Usually the first movie it's allways the best one,I like this one because it was more serious than the others that came after,I liked the first three movies but the the original is my favorite!
