It's about time that Universal woke up and released Psycho 4 on dvd in region 1. I have been waiting since 1999 for this. It really should have been released by it's self or in a box set with all four films, but I'll take what I can get. Thank God I can finish the psycho collection!

    4 out of 5 stars A Mother's Love.......2007-05-24

"PSYCHO II", a 'twenty-years-later' tale, could have been a total disaster. But with a story, though far-fetched, that extends naturally from the first one & includes and/or name-drops characters from Hitchcock's awesome original film, "PSYCHO II" succeeds. Loaded with an authentic slasher-flick feel combined with a post-giallo approach (haunting score, jaunty camera angles partially cribbed from the original, a 'whodunit' plot), this flick feels more inspired than your average case of cash-in 'sequel-itis'.

I'm probably not saying anything new here, since the movie's been out for so long and is all but forgotten by anyone besides genre fans looking to complete their collections... but if you're like me, & you remember this pic vaguely and want to catch up on the old-school nostalgia tip, I'd say pick up "PSYCHO II". Because where the first film's tame-by-today's-standards approach doesn't really feel very scary in retrospect (aside from everybody's favorite seminal shower scene), and is more of a study in film-making technique than anything at this point, "PSYCHO II" is just a spooky, fun ride. It has a couple of good jumps and, more effectively, some truly eerie scenes (particularly the foreboding weirdness when Norman Bates believes he's talking to his 'real' mother on the phone). Anthony Perkins, reprising his infamous Bates role, is pretty spot-on here, and considering the teen demographic this one had to play to, there's a couple of pretty gruesome, '80s-style kill set pieces. These elements, combined with an ending ALMOST as good as the original's, make "PSYCHO II" a much better second installment than most of its retread kin from the same era. And it's certainly finer than any of the other junky later installments in the 'PSYCHO' franchise.

    4 out of 5 stars Pretty good..........2007-04-11

This was a good second installment of psycho. Ofcourse I never really fell in love with the psycho series. Never really cared to. I doubt I will purchase the third installment. I just wanted to atleast see the second movie in the series. If your into the psycho franchise, then get this move, otherwise just rent it.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Part II For The Classic Original.......2007-04-08

Psycho II is a great movie. What happens when a mentally ill man who has killed in the past is released back into the very community where the murders were committed? Well just take a gander at this movie and find out. Some folks accept Norman Bates but others have plans for him. Who can he trust? Does he deserve a second chance? This dvd release is in widescreen and looks great.

5 out of 5 stars Just as good as the original.......2007-02-17

I remember seeing this when I was younger and getting scared out of my mind. Now that I am older, I see it from a more psychological/suspenseful sense...and it is even better! Sequels usually pale in comparision to the original, but this one stands on its own. It not only has a great storyline, but also adds a great continuation to the Psycho history.

Psycho II deals with Norman Bates' battle with sanity as those he harmed attempt to push him back over the edge. All the while you are thinking--is mother really dead?--is Norman committing the murders or is it all in his mind? I would positively recommend Psycho II to fans of the original and new fans who want to explore the world of Psycho.

4 out of 5 stars Suprisingly good sequel........2006-08-23

22 years later after the incident at the Bates Motel, Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) has been released out of the mental institute for the criminally insane and is back home. Even though he's back, he still feels haunted by mother's voice and has a second job as a cook at a diner, he's gotten strange phone calls and notes from someone playing Mother so he or she can drive him back to his original state of insanity.

Very good sequel to Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece of horror has good acting and has Perkins reprising his role as everyone's favorite looney with Meg Tilly, Vera Mills (From the original), Robert Loggia and Dennis Franz co-star. Jerry Goldsmith's score is half as good as the original's score and there's plenty of good scares to make one hell of a good sequel to an all-time masterpiece, there's also a nice twist at the end of this movie.

The DVD has good picture and sound quality with the only extra being the theatrical trailer, if you liked the original then i suggest you give this a try.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad, for a sequel..........2006-09-05

This movie actually wasn't all that bad.

Very similar story to the original.

The females are a lot better looking than the ones in the first film, that's for sure.

I thought this movie might be pretty horrid, but in all actuality, it is a pretty good film.

If you liked the first movie, I think you should give this one a try. It's worth owning especially if you have the original movie.

Good story, good acting, definitly a thriller.

    Could have been much worse.

1 out of 5 stars Single White Female 2.........uuuhhhhhh.......2006-04-16

Holly played by Kristen Miller (She Spies, Man of the Year) has a nice career as a journalist with her friend played by Brooke Burns (Baywatch, Death of the Supermodels). The 2 of them fight over the owner of a restaurant named Zucas (I think thats close enough) runned by actor Tod Babcock (Guard Dogs, Poor White Trash). When Holly gets pissed off at her friend because she slept with Mr. Babcock she tries to find a new place to live and low and behold she finds a new shy roommate Tess, played by Allison Lange (The Hillside Strangler, Roswell). Holly becomes close to Tess and they seem to hit it off real well, until Holly finds out some things about Tess that makes her think that maybe this wasnt such a good idea. Well, in 1992, Jennifer Jason Leigh did this to Bridget Fonda and now they make a sequel about it, wow, they must of went threw tons of scripts just to get to this one. Pretty much the young girls on screen are eye candy and the acting is pretty bad plus the twists and thrills arent that great. This can go down with Basic Instinct 2....in the trash can or the skeet shoot, one of the two. Also starring Francois Giroday (Carpool Guy, Framed), Tracey McCall (Not Another Teen Movie, Second Degree), Rif Hutton (Osmosis Jones, Halfway Decent) and Kyme (School Daze, Geppetto).

2 out of 5 stars Of Course It Is Not a Sequel; It's a Remake, and Pretty Bad and Unnecessary One.......2006-04-10

So Sony did it again. This time it is `Single White Female 2.' Now I want to ask you seriously. Do we really need another version of `Single White Female'? Before you answer the question, take a look at the writers' name of the film Ross Helford and Andy Hurst, both responsible for `Wild Things 2' and `Wild Things: Diamonds in the Rough.'

`SWF2' is just another direct-to-video film with almost no redeeming points except as a reminder of the original `SWF' which was not a great film, but still far better a thriller than this one. Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh (especially the latter) were very good, and Barbet Schroeder almost made us forget the impossible story with his camera. No such things can be found in `Single White Female 2' in which all you can see is the similar story told in a slower and clumsier fashion.

Once again we are to meet a single white female (working for PR film in NYC) Holly (Kristen Miller) who starts to live with another single white female Tess (Alison Lange). It takes some time for the new roommate to find that she is living with a very unusual girl, who hates other people's lies but can wear someone's else dress without asking and go the seedy club named `SIN' (really). Who should she do? Live with her? Leave her? Apparently Holly doesn't know the right answer, doing stupid things one after another.

But before the film gets down to business as thriller, it has to show us so many thrill-free elements that only slow the pace: Holly's job and promotion, her unfaithful (and repentant) boyfriend; her back-biting co-worker who says `Sexual manipulation is my specialty"; and so on and on. As thriller the film fails to deliver, with the predictable path it follows, not-so-effective acting from the leads, and the poorly shot scenes that do not know how to convey the thrills even as cheap ones like gore. The film makes feeble attempt to engage our attention (here I'm talking about male audiences) with some images of the ladies in underwear in vain.

The original `SWF' was not without derivative script, but had several good moments like creepy character by Jennifer Jason Leigh and that high-heel. Though it is not terrible, everything is still bland and superficial in `SWF2.'

3 out of 5 stars STAY AWAY FROM THE CLASSIFIEDS.......2006-03-14

It's really not as bad as some of the other reviewers have indicated. Certainly it is derivative, and the acting is far from superior, but for a psycho roommate movie, it's passable. I must admit though that Kristen Miller's Holly is one of the stupidest people on screen, trying so hard to be everybody's friend and not smacking snidy Jan in the mouth a little more often, but hey she's the heroine. Allison Lange is the psycho, and doing her best Kirsten Dunst imitation, she is quite chilling. Brooke Barnes is perfect as the bitchy Jan, and Todd Babcock is efficient as the wayward David.
The movie's climax is admittedly under dramatic, and the ending a little ambiguous, but I have definitely seen worse.

    1 out of 5 stars What a flop!.......2006-02-14

This movie was not as good as the first one at all! thought the plot was not good and the acting wasn't that good either.

    Description

Because she's in the middle of a mental breakdown, Virginia can't join her brother on safari and decides to go big game hunting in the Big Apple instead. Inviting three strangers to her trophy room--an actor, a junkie, and a wrestler (played by boxing legend Jake La Motta!)--she offers them $100,000 each if they can stay alive in Manhattan for 24 hours. With twisted violence, macabre humor, and lots of gratuitous skin, "Confessions of a Psycho Cat" is a delirious, out-of-its-mind instant cult classic!

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars "They're going to put you in a padded cell where you belong.".......2006-09-15

Something Weird Video specializes in offering the bizarre, the camp and the truly tasteless on DVD, and "Confessions of a Psycho Cat" certainly fits their criteria. A so-called 'roughie', the film dabbles in the relatively tame 'adult' cinema of the 60s while presenting a story rife with truly bad acting. In this tawdry tale, Virginia Marcus (Eileen Lord), who is in the middle of yet another nervous breakdown, can't accompany her snotty brother on safari. She decides to amuse herself by having her own, private safari on the streets on New York. Gathering together three losers who've all been acquitted of murder charges---a junkie named Buddy, a has-been actor Charles Freeman, and a former wrestler (Jake Lamotta)--Virginia offers them each the sum of $100,000 if they can stay alive in Manhattan for 24 hours. There are rules to the game, and each man takes the bait.

"Confessions of a Psycho Cat" is directed by Herb Stanley, and film aficionados will note that the plot resembles "The Most Dangerous Game." The story vacillates between scenes at a swingers' party and Buddy telling the story of Virginia's New York safari in flashback. There's no shortage of nude and undie scenes of degenerate swingers, and one scene involves Jake Lamotta and his bored 'date' who prances back and forth across the screen in her big undies, until she has a snogging session with her own reflection. This is a 60s exploitation title, and the film will be a curiosity for some viewers and a cult favourite for others. While this is not my favourite Something Weird Video title (the nudie scenes take away from the bizarre plot), it's a great deal of tacky fun. If you like one of the titles from Something Weird, then there's a good chance you'll like them all, and the reverse is also true. If you like films that are so-bad-they're-good, then you've hit the mother lode with Something Weird.

DVD extras include: Bad Girl Sexploitation trailers for "Bad Girls Don't Cry" "Come Play With Me" "Fuego" "In Hot Blood" "Olga's House of Shame" "Ride the Wild Pink Horse" "Spoiled Rotten" "Stefania" and "Submission." There's also a 28 minute short film "Preface to a Life" and "Hot Blooded Woman" a 68 minute film about a go-go girl who goes berserk--displacedhuman

    5 out of 5 stars Fabulous sleazy, funny psycho-chick SW double-bill DVD.......2003-03-16

Another great SW twin-bill, this time featuring examples of regionally-produced "psycho-babe" nudie/roughies, one shot in New York City, the other hailing from rural Texas; very different, but both terrific fun in their own way.
Psycho Cat begins as wealthy Manhattanite Virginia, whose just seen her big-game-hunter husband off at the airport, is having a "nervous breakdown," followed by framing scenes of a petting party (which were added several years after the rest of the movie was shot) where everyone, including one really `uptight' chick ... is waiting for a narcotics delivery. Mild nudity ... , "simulated" foreplay, and herb-smoking are featured, all to some twangy, loungy background music. When the junkie procurer (the only link to the central story) arrives, he's been shot in the leg with a crossbow, though everyone seems more concerned about whether he's "got the stuff." He relates In flashback how he'd been invited to a "fancy apartment" (decorated in animal skins, African artifacts, and numerous mounted animals and heads) along with two other men, an actor and a former pro wrestler. They're presented with a deal by Virginia: if they can stay alive for 24 hours in Manhattan while she literally hunts them down, each will collect $100,000. (They're "animals" to her because they've all been acquitted of murder for various reasons.) Boxer Jake LaMotta plays the wrestler, who accepts, croaking "You don't have a chance. I get in close, I'll break you in half." Virginia visits her shrink and screams, "Killing is bad!" as she recalls how her brother threw her doggy off the roof when they were kids. (The doctor asks if she's been taking her pills.) She then arranges a "comeback" performance for the actor, stalks him at the theater, and kills him with a spear. Now totally unhinged, Virginia phones LaMotta, shrieking into the receiver, stringy hair clinging to her twisted face. LaMotta screams back, "You got no right! I am Rocko, Rocko the champ! I'll kill ya, I'm coming to get ya!" His whiny call-girl taunts him, then french-kisses her own bored reflection in the hotel mirror. Virginia, dressed as a toreador, tracks Jake down, stabs him to death with banderillas as he scrabbles across the cement like a literal "raging bull," then bows to hallucinated cheers and applause. Returning to the party, the junkie finishes his story, unwisely leaves, scores, then shoots up and hurls in an Automat toilet stall. Virginia eventually catches up to him with a crossbow arrow to the neck. When hubby returns home, summoned by the shrink, he finds her sitting on the floor with a dolly in her arms, her victims trussed up like "kills" in the closet. "Do you love me now, daddy?" The movie ends on a shot of straitjacket-bound Virginia, shrieking behind the glass partition of an asylum door. Psycho Cat is a dark, disturbing, funny, terribly entertaining, surprisingly competent piece of grunge, blending elements of The Most Dangerous Game with mild pre-MPAA nudity, gritty `60s B&W grindhouse atmosphere and violence, and some of the best dialogue since Faster Pussycat. Eileen Lord (no other film credits!!) is unforgettably over-the-top as Virginia, she has to be seen to be believed.
Hot Blooded Woman is an astoundingly poverty-stricken ... psychodrama from lingerie fetishist auteur producer Whit Boyd (Spiked Heels and Black Nylons) and ... director Dale Berry (The Girl and the Geek), and "introducing" Shirley (producer's wife?) Boyd. It's shot mostly without sync sound and features some of the most bizarre names ever in the credits. It opens with apparent nymphomaniac Myrtle being willingly molested by Bill (Larry Buchanan regular) Thurman after taunting a group of hobos camped near a railroad track. Hubby comes to the rescue, first beating, then being beaten by the attacker. Unfortunately, and continuing through the entire movie, any dramatic tension that might have been engendered is completely undercut by the inappropriate and maddeningly repetitious soundtrack, (one annoying vibes/drums/guitar number is repeated perhaps a half dozen times!) Hubby takes her to a psychiatrist ("I'll never forget this girl; this pathetic, loveless, miserably sick, Myrtle Pennypacker") and his cat-eye-glasses-wearing "faithful nurse and assistant, Miss Couch." Under hypnosis, Myrtle reveals in flashback how the couple's sex life was normal at first (signified by making out in their underwear to jazzy pop music). "Then came the first clouds" as hubby rejects her advances on their wedding night (!?), upon which she grabs a huge kitchen knife and stabs the bed, while he watches, horrified, from the closet. She then heads out in her hot pants to go-go dance wildly at the local bar as the (integrated) Tony Harrison Trio belts out "Hot Blooded Woman." Later, a cat fight ensues while customers gawk after a waitress in a diner tries to pick up Myrtle's hubby with the immortal line "You have the cutest earlobes." (Once again, the upbeat grocery-store jazz on the soundtrack defuses any chance for real drama.) Wife and hubby spend lots of time "carpet-crawling" (sometimes with a white toy poodle wedged between them) but there's little payoff: Ms. Boyd never actually exposes anything, despite numerous shots of her dressing, undressing, and walking around or dancing in her underwear or negligee (I honestly think this was aimed at lingerie fetishists), and "sex" is signified by close-ups of Myrtle licking her lips. Suddenly, we're with Ruby, who spends about 10 minutes hanging out, going to the bathroom, mixing a drink, smoking a cigarette, getting naked, and bathing, before calling Myrtle to inform her about "that little Spanish [woman of easy virtue]" her hubby's been playing around with, and the fact that Myrtle's sister is "shacking up" with him as well. "Only because I like you so much." When confronted, hubby keeps changing his story, smacks Myrtle around a bit, and takes her back to the psychiatrist. As the shrink, deep in thought, obscures the frame, Myrtle disrobes behind him, laughing maniacally! "There was no longer any doubt in my mind. This girl needed treatment." She's carted off in a straitjacket under sedation to a sanitarium where an inmate nurses a rolled-up towel. Myrtle escapes and stops to pray to Jesus in a grotto, steals a handgun from a junkyard guard, and dies in a hail of (silent) police gunfire while holding the pistol on her hubby and telling him "I love you." For serious barrel-scrapers this movie is a joy to behold: the dubbing is atrocious (lips move with no sound; sound happens with no lips), continuity errors and unflattering camera angles abound, and the disjointed, fitful flow of the narrative (boldly flaunting the fundamental rules of story construction and film editing) creates a spellbinding, dreamlike, jaw-dropping, utterly unique experience. Whit Boyd and Dale Berry need a cult like Doris Wishman's. (They both have cameos in here somewhere.)
Extras include a fistful of sex/sleaze trailers (the standouts: Ride the Wild Pink Horse [Looks great, but not available from SW yet], Spoiled Rotten, Come Play with Me, and the legendary Olga's House of Shame) and a 29-minute B&W Federal Security Agency Public Health Service short, "Preface to a Life", the vague premise of which seems to be that unrealistic and conflicting parental pressures, expectations, and neuroses cause us all to grow up nuts. It's a little dry, but stick with it, it gets better. Also included is another Trash-O-Rama art gallery featuring cool advertising promos for The Love Cult, The Lonely Sex, and Mundo Depravados, among many others. Print quality on both features ranges from very good to excellent throughout (Psycho Cat fares better overall) and quite watchable. There is the usual minor speckling and blemishing, but otherwise they look quite good considering their pedigree. Unfortunately, Hot Blooded Woman has the SWV logo in the corner as it's considered an "extra" on this disc. If you're into the pre-ratings nudie/roughie/Adults Only scene, this is must-have material, and one of my favorite SW discs so far. Highest recommendation.

Good sleazy B&W "roughie" with plenty of flesh and Jake LaMotta. Great extras include lotsa 'Bad Girl' trailers, a 30 minute short and AN EXTRA MOVIE ("Hot Blooded Woman"). Excellent value and great fun. The whole theme of the disc is nasty women and if anything is missing, it is only one of those deliciously bent 'Scopitone' music clips that Something Weird sometimes put on their discs (like on "Horrors Of Spider Island" and "Curious Dr. Humpp"). Whatcha waitin' for?? Buy it!

      Single White Female:
You can take this 1992 thriller one of two ways: it's either a highly suspenseful movie about an unfortunate young woman's psychological breakdown, or it's a glossy slasher movie starring two of Hollywood's best young actresses. Or maybe it's both at the same time--or perhaps it's the clever and well-acted thriller for its first hour before resorting to the routine shocks of a cheap horror flick. However you look at it, there's no denying that this is a dynamite showcase for Jennifer Jason Leigh as the roommate from hell who becomes the bane of Bridget Fonda's existence. First she picks up Fonda's mannerisms, then starts to borrow her wardrobe, cuts her hair to resemble Fonda's, and even "borrows" her roomie's boyfriend for a deceitful night of lovemaking. By that point Fonda's totally freaking out (wouldn't you?), and, well, that's when the whole thing gets a little too silly. Still, this is a nifty little shocker, and director Barbet Schroeder brings more intelligence and style to the material than it really deserves. Add that to the fine performances by the battling roommates and you've got a movie that will make you think twice before inviting total strangers to live with you. --Jeff Shannon

      1 out of 5 stars Worst Than Plan-9 !!.......2005-11-10

My, my, my.... Where do I begin.....? There are 5 movies on my list of all time worst movies ever made. This movie "Psycho A Go-Go" is number 5 and deserves it. The only reason to view this movie is if you are passed-out drunk. That's it. No other reason. I'd give it -5 Stars, if I could. But the other 4 that actually beat this one, are: #4 "Plan-9 From Outer Space", #3 "Beast Of Yucca Flats", #2 "The Killer Shrews", and the number one worst movie of all time ever made is: #1 "Cornman". If you are bored and desperately need a little entertainment please see "Little Voice" or "Flirting With Disaster".

      2 out of 5 stars Incredibly terrible.......2005-08-08

This was an absolute chore to sit through. It was so bad I considered shutting it off many times, but if I did, how could I do this review?

Thugs attempt to steal millions of dollars worth of diamonds, but something goes wrong. A robber is shot by a guard, but not before he throws the bag of diamonds into someone's pickup truck. The rest of the gang try to retrieve them. The truck belongs to a man whose wife is a singer, and his daughter just happenes to be having a birthday.

The robbers tie up the dude trying to find out where the loot is. Of course he knows nothing about it. So they kidnap the wife and daughter. The 'climax' is a wild foot chase on a snow covered mountain. The bad guys are defeated and we learn in the last scene that the daughter had hid the diamonds inside her birthday doll.

The acting is terrible even for a B-grade. The killing scenes are many, but are extremely lame. It was as if the movie had a budget so tight they couldn't even afford blood. Invisible gun wounds from cap guns is about what it comes down to. A stabbing with scissors (off screen) results in a dab of blood in the stomach and a little bit dripping from the mouth.

I'll never watch this again. Very little to no entertainment value.

      Description

The Psycho Lover (1970) - The only thing worse than being a homicidal maniac is being treated by a doctor who's just as crazy! Marco, a Psycho Lover who strangles women that "threaten his maleness," becomes a patient of lizard-like Dr. Kenneth Alden, who uses wacky nightmares to brainwash Marco into killing the doc's nasty wife who won't give him a divorce. A gaudy mix of sex, violence, pop-psych, and even some quick necrophilia, this drive-in shocker (a.k.a. "The Loving Touch") is a fun descent into B-movie psychosis. "Heat Of Madness" (1966) - Oddball photographer Johnny's dismissive attitude to sex radically changes when he's hired to illustrate a book called "Great Sex Murders" and soon has models staging mock whippings, robberies and assaults. Trouble is, all the fake violence fuels the poor guy with the Heat of Madness, and pretty soon he thinks one of his naughty models is actually his fiancee and promptly goes berserk... Two twisted sickies, proving once again that romance is always more exciting with a deranged lunatic.

3 out of 5 stars When Good Ideas Go Bad.......2003-08-22

I absolutely love the idea of a photographer becoming warped and twisted by the perversity he or she chooses to capture. Unfortunately, it seems that this idea is destined NOT to generate any good movies. Dario Argento's take on "The Black Cat" for the vignette film "Two Evil Eyes" is a case in point, but it has absolutely nothing on "The Heat of Madness" for sheer banality. It is very hard to imagine anyone genuinely liking this film. There is virtually no skin on display and the violence is strictly community-theater level retractable knife blades and blood packs. This would not be an issue (at least, not for me) if there was something else to focus on like, oh I don't know: ACTING SKILL? CINEMATOGRAPHY?! DECENT STORY?!! DOES ANYONE UNDERSTAND???!!! Instead the viewer is treated to pedestrian-level shot compositions, bland character portrayal and, worst of all, a storyline that had loads of possibilities and squanders them all.

The same can just as easily be said of "The Psycho-Lover." Despite some pretty kooky photography, tons of swingin'-'70s kitsch and a hallucination sequence that looks like "Laugh-In Goes to Hell," there just ain't much there there, if you know what I mean. The movie ambles along at with a look and a pace more suited to an episode of "Columbo," but with precious little of that series suspense or wit. There is some genuinely decent dialogue, but anyone at all familiar with thrillers will see where this little beauty is headed long before the "shocking" twist ending and the roll of the closing credits.

About the only reason anyone should even consider owning this disk is because of the trailers. As per usual, the supplemental materials included here are worth their weight in gold. There's a collection of trailers that includes spots for Pete Walker's "The Flesh and Blood Show" (a title I can't wait to see on the digital format), "Poor Albert and Little Annie" (actually a retitled version of "I Dismember Mama", and "Scream Bloody Murder" a.k.a: "The Captive Female" (though I prefer the "SBM" trailer included here). There's also an assortment of short subjects that must be seen (or not) to be believed. "Captain Bondage Versus Women's Lib" is pretty much exactly what you think it is. Shot on what looks to be color Super 8 film, it is true smut taken to the Nth degree. Taken in conjunction with another of the short subjects ("The Naked Flower"), one is left feeling mighty dirty, indeed. "Name Unknown," the final short-subject (this one a classroom scare film) is about the only one I can recommend. I love these things and experience severe bouts of nostalgia every time I watch one.

So, if you don't mind coughing up a few bills for at least three great trailers and one awesome short subject, I say have at it. Others are urged to look elsewhere.

3 out of 5 stars enjoyable double feature with great trailers.......2003-06-04

THE PSYCHO LOVER aka THE LOVING TOUCH concerns unhappily married psychiatrist Kenneth, whose aging, frigid wife loves the booze more than her husband. Small wonder he wants a divorce to live with his nice young mistress happily ever afterwards. Unfortunately for him his wife stubbornly refuses.
Kenneth also supports law enforcement with his expert advice. Police has caught a suspect in a series of horrible sex killings, but does not have physical evidence (they did not have DNA analysis in the early 70ies) and hence no case.[...]P>THE PSYCHO LOVER is a highly enjoyable early 70ies exploitation thriller. True, it is highly predictable, but that does not mar the fun too much. The rape/murder scenes are quite graphic, with even more nastiness implied (cue: ketchup bottle). However the sex maniac looks a bit ridiculous with his pantyhose masked grimaces.
There is enough sex and nudity as well as violence on display to keep you entertained. The film is accompanied by a nice easy listening soundtrack. And what's that for a cool car the headshrinker is driving? I did not see such a thing in my whole life!

IN THE HEAT OF MADNESS however is not so much fun. Not that it is a bad film, it is just drama rather than exploitation. The plot revolves around a photographer, who is assigned to shoot a photo series of staged sex murders for a pulp magazine. Much to the dismay of his fiance, the shooting sessions with their violent and sexual re-enactments of crimes seem to trigger some madness in the photographer, resulting in bloody murder...
This 1966 black and white movie has pretty good actors (especially Kevin SCOTT in the lead is very convincing) and a good story line, however is a bit l[weak] in the violence/sex department. Anyway, rewarding viewing at least once.
There are the usual short films SOMETHING WEIRD [...] on their DVD releases, however none of them is outstanding. There is THE NAKED FLOWER: A FABLE OF LOVE featuring some nudity and the most obviously faked fist fight ever performed in front of a camera and the gloating black and white "educational" short NAME UNKNOWN. This class room scare film stars a juvenile court judge detailing cases where teenage girls became victims of sex maniacs. It is interesting how the film tiptoes around sex crimes, which are only implied (one girl is found "unconscious")and how cynical the film's commentary sometimes is. The oddly named CAPTAIN BONDAGE VS. WOMEN`S LIB (!) shows a weirdly dressed man (imagine a masked superhero in SM garb with a big B on his belt) visting a feminist and the ensuing ropeplays. This weird short including the accompanying music defies description. Feminists however won't like this one too much, I'm afraid:)
Far better than the short features are the trailers. They are really GREAT and reason in itself to purchase this DVD. There is THE PSYCHO LOVER trailer (tagline: "If you are a woman, you'll never sleep alone again!"), the British THE FLESH AND BLOOD SHOW, a trailer for a rather sick movie called POOR ALBERT & LITTLE ANNIE, the black and white AROUSED, THE EXQUISITE CADAVER, TWISTED NERVE (my favorite of the bunch), THE WOMAN HUNT and the ultra violent SCREAM BLOODY MURDER ("The first motion picture to be called gore-nographic!"). All trailers have much sex, nudity and violence in it. Again: The trailers are so good that they alone reward the purchase of the DVD! Oh, there's also a hidden feature: a trailer for an early 1970ies adult movie named PSYCHODRAMA, where apparently a group therapy session results in an orgy including full frontal nudity, group sex and breast bondage! You can access this easter egg by highlighting THE PSYCHO LOVER trailer in the trailer section, but do not use the enter button on your remote control. Click twice the left direction button instead.

3 out of 5 stars Doesn't generate much HEAT --.......2003-05-12

One must take into account that a lot of the "lost" films Something Weird releases to tape and DVD are "lost" for a good reason, i.e., they are not any good. PSYCHO LOVER is a good, sick piece of obscurity, about a psychiatrist scheming to get rid of his wife. It has a very Seventies look and feel, and THE MANCHURAIN CANDIDATE (yay!) is used as a major plot point. HEAT OF MADNESS is a black-and-white roughie about a rich girl who falls head over heels in love with a cheesecake photographer. The diretor is so unconcerned with art, he released this film without a musical score! If you've got time to waste -- alphabetize your CD collection instead!

3 out of 5 stars This is a Comedy ..Right??.......2006-10-02

This better be a comedy, cause its too funny. I assure you if you watch this movie you will be splitting your sides every other minute. The reason being is because of the lead character Mike and how pathetic he is. Just watch the movie to see this character's progression downward and the way he handles it all. There are so many hilarious incidents in this movie such as when Mike becomes a christian and then loses his faith and my personal favorite..when Mike is in the bathroom preparing for uhhh "man love".

      5 out of 5 stars Stunning.......2006-02-26

There are a lot of great lines in this film. I like when the evangelist couple tell the anti-hero in the hospital, after they found him on the street mostly dead, "We thought you were a bag of trash!". Also, when Mike is explaining to the female evangelist about his epiphany, she tells him, "But Mike, I don't think Jesus was black!" This is some subtle good stuff. The "whore" role of Mike's girlfriend was great. Mike whose real name if Paris something does what seems to me like a great, really great acting job, as do others in the film. The writing, concept and performances are great. The people who made and contributed to this film, incluing the star Mike (Paris), will continue to make their mark in the future. Watch this film, if you can handle it. It is not for the faint-hearted.

wasn't expecting alot when I saw this film, but talk about Mouth dropping? a Pimp that gets turned out?? also finding the Good Book while all the crazyiness is going down. this is a Underground film.like elements of Mean Streets meet Pulp Fiction. wasn't expecting some of the stuff that went down.it's worth peeping out,but it ain't gonna be the way you think it is all the way through.very twisted film.

The performance of Jason Madera had me scared, laughing, crying, and full of joy all at the same time. This man is the future of acting. He does not need training. Jason Madera backs down when people he threatens to sue challange him to a wrestling match. That is because he is too good for that. His performance is Sucker Punch takes acting to a whole new level. Did you see the commitment he took with this role. Not every man would go bald just for a role like this. I am hereby stating that if Jason Madera does not get nominated for an Academy Award for this role, then i will stop watching movies all together.
