One of the best..........2007-07-01
"B" horror/slash movies. Just lots of great stuff in this movie. Killings, T & A, laughable lines and lots more. Plus...a big slap in the face to the religious god of the commercial holiday...Satan...I mean Santa...oh sorry, they are the same person. Commercial Christmas is a joke, and the people who raise their kids to believe in a false and fake icon are a joke too. In this movie, Satan, I mean Santa is gunned down twice in front of crying and shocked children. GREAT!! Plus Satan, I mean Santa goes around killing and "punishing" all who are naughty. GREAT MOVIE. Glad I bought it over three years ago before it went out of print. Even Netflix doesn't (or won't) have a copy of this movie. Too bad, it should be shown on national television every Christmas just like Jimmy Stewart.
Santa's Got An Axe!..........2007-05-10
I remember the big controversy back when SILENT NIGHT / DEADLY NIGHT hit the theatres. MAHS (Mothers Against Homicidal Santas) attacked the movie mercilessly, many (most) of the mad-mums never even having seen it! The story grew and became legend. After watching SN / DN a few minutes ago, it's difficult to understand all the hubbub it created. Yes, there's a killer-claus. Yes, he goes on a murderous rampage at christmas time. No, it's not any more graphic or outrageous than any of the other holiday-horror movies that obviously inspired it. I liked it a lot actually! As far as x-mas horror films go, SN / DN is somewhere between DON'T OPEN 'TIL CHRISTMAS and CHRISTMAS EVIL. It's no BLACK CHRISTMAS by any means, but it ain't bad! Besides, it even has Linnea Quigley (Return Of The Living Dead, Night Of The Demons, Graduation Day) as a disrobed victim! My oh my, that gal just can't keep those clothes on, not even in December! So, settle down for a long winter's evening of jingle kills! As for SILENT NIGHT / DEADLY NIGHT PT. 2, let's just say it's a pile of yellow snow. Mostly flashbacks of the first movie, although the last 15 minutes are pretty good!...
ripped off.......2007-01-10
Never received the movie and have not heard a single word from the seller despite my emails.
"Please Don't Punish Me".......2006-12-15
"Silent Night, Deadly Night," Part One I liked. Part Two...HATED IT!!!
Controversial Film for the Holidays.......2006-11-10
As a young boy, Billy witnesses the murder of his parents by Santa Claus. He believes Santa punishes the bad and starts reliving the memories during his stay at a Catholic orphanage. He suffers abuse there at the hands of Mother Superior, gets a job at a toy store as a young man, then he goes on a demented killing spree as Santa.
The DVD opens with the statement that this is "the most complete and unrated version," which is why there are scenes of varying quality. I find this strange because the DVD is rated "R", not Unrated. Also, there seems to be a rape scene missing. Some people say that Santa rapes the mother of the young boy, but this is never shown unless it was edited out. There is an attempted rape, but ends at the shirt ripping.
This film, while not very gory, initially struck me as disturbing and then later, stupid. There are scenes of a young boy watching his parents being murdered by Santa, a preteen adolescent being beaten and tied up by the Mother Superior, and then cops shooting a deaf priest. The story starts out well showing the tortured boy and his evolution to a serial killer, but it goes down hill after that.
There are also moments of unintentional humor like when the young boy grows up to be a muscle bound hunk in tight pants. There is a goofy montage of him working in a toy store and playing with Mr. Potato Head while a strange Christmas song plays.
There were countless discrepancies, which made no sense, but help the audience laugh. For instance, child Billy has brown hair and brown eyes, orphanage Billy suddenly has blue eyes, and adult Billy magically grows blonde hair.
The film quality was okay, but sound was spotty in some parts. The SFX was decent, but most death scenes were simply splashed blood. The director also sleazed it up in several parts. While there is plenty of boobage, the sex scenes were pretty boring and consisted of partners laying on top of each other motionless and confused.
There is also a weird underlying message here about the importance of Christmas and Religion. Why would a Catholic orphanage tell children to write thank you notes to Santa for gifts, Isn't the typical religious protocol to pray? And there is an interesting comparison to a Hallmark holiday and a man-made religion.
So who is bad here? The Naughty vs Nice/ Black vs White Simpleton Santa Claus? The unsympathetic, abusive, but organized Religion? Or the innocent, yet murderous Mentally Ill that slips through the cracks in our legal system?
This film was banned 2 weeks after it's theatrical release due to an angry uproar and protests. What is strange is that parents claimed that "Christmas is sacred" and that is why this film is bad. I disagree. I thought the original idea was a great and the first f'ed 30 minutes were pretty good. If they wanted to complain about something, then why not the unethical treatment of children by authoritative, religious figures? Or how about the representation of nuns as domineering imbeciles? Or why not the sleazy way the women were depicted? Lee Harry, the director of the sequel, even states in commentary that it seems as though the women were only placed in the film to be abused by the men.
DVD Extras: Scene Selection and Audio Interview with Director. "Santa's Stocking full of Outrage" features random letters of hate by critics, angry parents, and even Mickey Rooney who later starred in the Part 5!
Bottom Line: I would recommend that horror fans check this out simply to see what the controversy is.

Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 (1987)
A Rip-off of the Original Silent Night, Deadly Night
I immediately noticed this one has different writer (4 total which is not a good sign) and the director had changed.
The sequel opens with Billy's younger brother Ricky in a psych ward being questioned. He miraculously recalls details of the murders despite not being there to witness them (!) and can completely recall his parents deaths even though he was an infant at the time!?!
I guess the filmmakers got lazy because the first 40 minutes is stolen footage from the first film. What is even weirder, Ricky "recalls" scenes that he was not apart of. For example, one memory he recalls is of a cops' POV actions whom he had never met. That doesn't make any sense. And some of the stolen footage has new people cut into the scenes, making this super-weird. And How can a stranger get directing credit on a film that used someone else's footage?
There are numerous inconsistencies as well. One is that multiple actors play Ricky and they do not look alike (same as Billy in the Original). The other flaw is that Ricky doesn't kill as Santa or near the holidays, so I guess they stole the movie title too.
Other flaws: Ricky can hold someone in an electrical current and not get electrocuted himself. The same cop from the first one appears randomly on a street in this one even though it takes place in a different city. There are also 2 crew members clearly trying, but failing, to hide in the background of one scene. There are many more to list, but frankly, this is getting boring.
There is one notable cool scene though. After a boyfriend attempts to rape his girlfriend, Ricky runs him over repeatedly in a jeep as she watches the spectacle. When he is finished, the girlfriend simply says, "Thank you" and walks off.
Favorite Quote: "This is actually a good film" by Director Lee Harry at the end of the commentary.
DVD Extras: Still Gallery, Trailer, and Commentary with the Writer Joseph Earle, Director Lee Harry, and Actor James Newman. The screenplay is also available on the DVD. I would look at this simply for laughs.
According to the Commentary, the producers approached the Director and Writer to re-cut the original film as a sequel since it was pulled from the theaters. They decided to use the original footage and then write around it to try and create their own film. This seems especially ridiculous now since the Original was released on DVD and the sequel plays right after it.
Bottom Line: This is a flashback, stolen footage piece of crap. It gets 1 point for the decent footage that was stolen, 1 point for the "Thank you rape victim", and ½ point for an attempt at other deaths later in the film.
