This is the 1993 horror movie whose little Irish monster was frequently quoted by late-night talk show host Conan O'Brien: "I want me gold!" Sure you do, pal. Diminutive actor Warwick Davis (who played an Ewok in Return of the Jedi) plays a creepy, killer leprechaun wandering an American suburb in search of the gold stolen from him. Woe be to anyone who inadvertently gets in his way, including Tori (Jennifer Aniston) and her pals, who somehow have to get their hands on a four-leaf clover (what's wrong with a yellow moon or pink hearts?) to stop the dinky demon. Not exactly a promotional campaign from the Irish Tourist Board, Leprechaun is nevertheless good, silly fun. --Tom Keogh

Purportedly one of Walt Disney's most personal pet projects, Darby O'Gill shows the effort and care put into it. Even now the special effects hold up shockingly well. Darby O'Gill is an estate caretaker, but in his advanced years he's more fond of telling tall tales in the local pub about the wee folk than keeping the grounds. A new man (a very youthful Sean Connery) is sent in to take his place, and O'Gill doesn't know what will become of himself and his daughter. He snags three spectacular opportunities, however, when he catches the king of the leprechauns. This film is whimsical without being silly, supernatural without being outlandish, and all and all a treat for the whole family. --Keith Simanton

5 out of 5 stars Darby O'Gill and the Little People.......2007-06-25

Classic Disney live-action tale delivers authentic Irish charm, and tells a whimsical story blending humor, music, romance and suspense. A couple of spooky moments might make this risky for younger kids, but overall this is delightful, family-friendly entertainment. Sharpe is charmingly roguish in the title role, and it's fun to see a pre-Bond Connery in the romantic lead. He even sings- and not badly!

This has a good tribute to the Irish.
I like this because I`m Irish.

4 out of 5 stars St. Patrick's Day must see.......2007-05-30

Classic movie and must see for St. Patrick's Day fun. Sean O'Connor in all his youth and charm contending with traditional Irish lass and her father.

5 out of 5 stars A Classic Sean Connery!.......2007-05-28

Darby O'Gill and the Little People
A children's classic movie that is fun for the adult's to watch also. Set in Ireland, you will see a very young and singing Sean Connery, his future father-in-law taking on the king of the leprechans, and a delightful cast of townspeople. Our 2 1/2 year old Grandson only lasted for about 1/2 of it, so I would say it would be better for ages 4 or 5 and you will still be answering a lot of questions. The music is fun, a lot of early animation, and a few scary parts for little ones.

4 out of 5 stars Disney movie.......2007-05-13

The greatest thing about this movie is you see Sean Connery before he had his heavy signature voice. The movie is a little heavy for young kids. My 6 year-old couldn't keep his mind on it.

There's a war goin' on in this bit o' blarney, but it's more than the feud between the fairies and the leprechauns, upon which most of the overwrought tale hangs. It's also a struggle between competing, derivative story lines in this bloated, plodding film that can't decide what it wants to be. It's part Romeo and Juliet, via the seemingly doomed romance of the princess fairy and teenage leprechaun; part contemporary romance, with an uncomfortable-looking Randy Quaid in the romantic lead; and a large part unfocused fable that fills out its Irish stew with a feud reminiscent of Ireland's Catholic-Protestant conflict while throwing in fantastical Braveheart-style battle scenes and Riverdance-like interludes. The most stunning scenes are the fairy sequences that take place in a futuristic castle in the sky (think Wizard of Oz meets Star Wars) and the epic battles with innovative leprechaun bark-and-stick armor. It all makes for a jumble of a long movie, which originally aired as a miniseries on NBC. --Valerie J. Nelson

5 out of 5 stars Really good made for TV movie.......2007-05-09

This is one of my daughter's all time favorites, since she was about 9 yrs. old - she is now 14 and still likes it.

3 out of 5 stars Great movie, questionable casting.......2007-04-09

I enjoy this movie a great deal. In fact if someone other than Whoopi Goldberg was the Banshee, I think it would have been great. Now let me state up front I love Whoopi Goldeberg. She was great in Star Trek series, and I love all her comedy movies. I own most of them. However, putting her in as the Banshee in this movie is like putting a Irishman in as a globetrotter in a movie about the Harlem Globetrotters. It doesn't fit, so please stop doing it whoever is responsible for this kind of off culture/race casting. It reminded me how they cast Will Smith as James West for "Wild, Wild, West". Next I suppose they will cast William Macy as "Shaft". I don't like racism, and I certainly don't like casting white or blacks in movies that aren't appropriate to the culture or the theme of the movie. So had they cast someone other than Whoopi Goldberg as the Banshee I would given it 4 stars.

    4 out of 5 stars good.......2007-03-23

I got this for my daughter. She has wanted it after she saw it on TV years ago. I liked the movie, thought the graphics was very good.

    3 out of 5 stars A Wee Review.......2007-03-10

Don't let the three stars fool you. This is a well done, great acted, fun story. It's long and sometimes you wonder where it's going. That's my take, and Whoopi Goldberg is just so NOT right for the part that it detracts from the rest of the story. Luckily she's not in it much. I like her as an actress, I just didn't like her performance here. Randy Quaid on the other hand is great, and his relationship with his love interest and her crazy brothers, and even one of the Wee folk are what really make this movie. Even more so than the story of the Fiery's.

I recommend this story, but It's just ok.

    5 out of 5 stars Very Good.......2007-03-09

A good Sunday afternoon movie to watch for the whole family. A clean wholesome movie.

I don't know why, but I love these films. I realize I probably shouldn't use the word films here, but I don't really care. These either resonate with you or they don't. In any case, expect them to be silly. They have a very simple feel to them, and they really are a time capsule of sorts. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Goofiness to the extreme.

    4 out of 5 stars Leprechaun Classics!.......2006-08-25

Well, to be honest, this is a great box set. Movies 1-3 are the true classics and just got wayyyy to stupid after 4. I enjoyed the box set and should be on every shelf of the true Leprechaun fan.

4 out of 5 stars It convinced me.......2005-08-12

If you like B rated horror movies than this is the collection for you. The quality was great and the scary humor is even better. I would suggest this movie to anyone who likes to see a little man go after gold and will stop at nothing to get it. but one thing i like best about these movies is the fact that with each movie they dont tie in with each other, in other words when the movies end the next one doesnt explain why or how he is still alive. To me it's like different short stories of a leprechaun and his gold. I would recomend this to anyone who dreamed of finding a pot-of-gold and not thinking there are concenquences, this might change your mind. Over all these movies are great entertainment and will be for your kids when they grow up and realise that Lucky isn't what he's cracked up to be. Well I hope this review is helpful and if you do purchase this collection it will be hours of entertainment as it was for me out in Iraq.

1 out of 5 stars Please ......look away! , look away !.......2005-03-29

No don't even look at this. If you are thinking about buying this i wish you the best of "luck" while you go on an adventure that will change your life 4ever.Leprechaun is pretty well ok movie, it trys to scare you. The rest of the movies are just pieces of crap. It goes from Crap 2 The biggest piece of crap you will ever witness in your life.

C'mon a Leprechaun in space. Now, if that isn't stupid i don't know what is, and how he gets there still amazes me. How does he get in the space shuttle? A space Marine pisses on his leg, which from that piss travels into the marine and later pops out of his crotch during intercourse. Wow!!! i'll just leave it at that . WOW!!!!!

3 out of 5 stars 3 disc boxset (regioun 4).......2005-01-19

I picked up the Leprechaun 3 disc box set here in Australia for a cheap price. But it only contains the first 3. Theres no other box set here of Leprechaun. So I'll just reveiw the first 3 movies.

Leprechaun * * * (3 stars)- Warwick Davis (Willow, Ewok Wicket) plays the Leprechaun who is hunting down a man who has stolen his gold. The old man tries to destory the Leprechaun but instead leaves him inside a locked crete in his basement where he failed to finish him off. The old man has a stroke and moved to a retirment home. 10 years later a father and daughter move into the house. The daughter is played by *barf* Jennifer Aniston (Friends) she is an abnoxious teenager who doesnt like the house but decides to stick around when she finds a local buy she fancies. Eventualy the crete is opened and the Leprechaun escapes his prison and searching for his gold. Killing anybody who has his gold or gets in the way, the sinister warped mind of the Leprechaun seeks out his victoms singing his ryhems. Will they survive? Or will the Leprechaun take his revenge? Only a dozen ways to find out. The other charctors of the movie, I do recignise some of them, but I dont know there names, I know the kid was in "Mr. Nanny" the Hulk hogan movie. And The fat guy was Chubby in Teenwolf and in the recent Gacy movie. But I dunno there names, anyway who cares.

Leprechaun 2 (***)- Somehow the Leprechauns back. And he be searchin' for 'is bride. He is stalking a bueatiful girl played by some unknown who is a blood reletive to someone he tried to marry 1000 years before, or something like that. But he's going to have to fight to keep her because her boyfriend wont let her go without a fight. with the help of his horror tours boss. The 2 of them go looking for the Leprecahun and try to find his girl. Theres a few funny scenes, and some low budget but ok effects.
About the only actor I recignised was Michael McDonald (MadTV) who plays a queer cafe worker who says the wrong thing to the Leprechaun and pays for it.

Leprechaun 3 (***)- The Leprechaun is somehow a stone statue that a bum takes to a pawn shop in Las Vega to cash in for some gas money. He warns the owner not to take the amulet off its neck. But does so anyway. Of coarse the wee little bugger is back and up to his usual tricks. And still someone has stolen one of his coins and so he's out looking for it and doing what he usualy does. A few more funny scenes, and some things that had potentioal, but probably didnt have the budget to do more with. Cant say I knew any of the actors, but that just makes the movie good to have unknowns, you dont really wanna be watching the one person you do recignise all the time.

I wouldnt call these scary horror movies. Some parts of them are humorus, there's hardly any killing in any of them, not much gore for any of you blood thirsty fans. Most of the death scenes are cut away. I havent got a clue what the next 2 Leprechaun movies where like, but I aint in a hurry to see them. The DVD's dont contain any bonus features at all. You get the menu/scene selection and the movie, and thats it. Not even subtitles!

But the movies are pretty good. There b grade horror flicks, I wouldnt praise them, I wouldnt say there great, but I wouldnt say they are bad either. Leprechaun is a cool image. The make up looks great on Warwick Davis and he plays a pretty good role of the sinister and coniving Leprechaun and his evil magic.

A recomended movie for you softcore horror fans who like the Imaage of a cool villian. Or worth it to pass time on a rainy day.

    EDIT:
LEPRECHAUN 4 IN SPACE (1 and half stars)
The acting is terrible, the plot is a big WTF? The CGI is not even laughable its so bad, the whole movie stinks and should become any of the actors from its first wish to be erased from if they ever where granted a leprechauns 3 wishes. I wish I had not bought it, I wish i had not bought it, I wish I had not baought it.

3 out of 5 stars Where has the magic gone?.......2006-11-19

The Leprechaun series started out strong with the first three movies. Four was silly and five had way too much transsexual stuff in it for my liking - come to think of it, four had a military guy wearing a dress too.

Anyway, Back 2 Tha Hood was a good addition to the franchise. The Leprechaun's sense of humor came back with a vengenance in this one - and I loved the scene where the thug is trying to act tough while is girlfriend is yelling at him on his cell phone.

In the early movies, the Leprechaun only killed after giving people an opportunity to return his gold. In this one, he starts killing everyone - even if they had nothing to do with stealing his gold. Although there is a witch in the movie who uses magic, I was disappointed that the Leprechaun didn't use any this time out. He was a much more physcial threat.

If you enjoy this series, I'm sure you'll like this 6th installment. Go ahead and go Back 2 Tha Hood.

    4 out of 5 stars Great Movie!.......2006-11-10

This is one of the better Leprechaun movies i've seen in sometime. If you have the "Pot of Gore" collection , buy this along with it cause it does make a difference in the end seeing that 1-3 were truly good, the 4th movie was tragic story wise and the movie as a whole, however, the 5th movie wasnt bad, but, it still needed work in some way. But, with all the Leprechaun movies, this one truly does stand out.

1 out of 5 stars Gimmie me gold back! This movie stinks!.......2006-01-18

The first visit to the hood was crazy but fun. This one is neither. There is only one funny scene and no scary scenes...so what's the point?

3 out of 5 stars In some ways, the best Lep film... not a good thing.......2006-01-13

The thing that surprised me about Lep 6 is that out of all the films, it looks the most like a "real" movie. That is, the cinematography and direction is not far behind any recent blockbuster, which doesn't say much for recent horror movies... The acting is predictably cheesy, but at least it doesn't take itself too seriously.

    However.

Lep doesn't rhyme at all. He doesn't rap (as he did in what I now refer to as "Back 1 tha hood", retroactively). The movie has it's moments of ridiculous glee, but it's not as much of a train wreck as previous Lep movies. Especially the previous "Back 1 tha hood" and "Lep in Space" debacles.

Being one who only viewed this movie for the entertainment value of how awful it was, this does not bode well. When the movie is trying to be scary (and it is one of the scariest lep films, imagine that) it's merely boring.

Listen to the director's commentary for a racist remark. "Because you know, having a white person steal from a black person is a bit of a role reversal!" met by silence from a probably stunned Warwick Davis.

Here's to Lep 7: Back 3 tha hood being better.

5 out of 5 stars Big improvement over Leprechaun in the Hood.......2005-03-22

I am one of the people who love the Leprechaun movies(some people hate them). But they do have a fan bases and I actually think Leprechaun Back 2 tha Hood is the best in the series. But I haven't seen Leprechaun 1 and 4. So it is the best of the series so far. It probably still will be the best after I watch 1 and 4. The reason I didn't see those ones is because my movie store only has Leprechaun 2,3,5,6. Leprechaun 6 is also really funny. Which anyone who has ever watched a Leprechaun movie knows they are comical I couldn't stop laughing half the time. I think Leprechaun fans will love this movie and people who didn't like Leprechaun in the Hood should give this a chance and watch, because they are very different movies. I wasn't very pleased with Leprechaun in the Hood myself and I found myself really enjoying this one. One of the things I enjoyed about the movie is the action, it had pretty good action. It also had a great preformance(as usual)by Warwick Davis(the Leprechaun). By the way the Leprechaun looks the best in this one too. Make-up wise and costume wise. One thing I am wondering why didn't the Leprechaun use any of his magic, he could have at least used it once, even though him fighting it out all the time was great. I at least wanted him to use it once. I think in Leprechaun 7 he should fight it out mostly all the time but use his magic maybe a couple times to do something, just open a door with your magic once, at least you used it. With a cheap DVD price it is worth buying because it is a good movie and has a good replay value.

--Tom Keogh

3 out of 5 stars LUCK OF THE IRISH.......2006-04-03

Now noted for the somewhat inauspicious debut of FRIENDS Jennifer Ashton, this tidy little horror movie is fun to watch, much of that due to the infectious villainy of Warwick Davis as the devilish little leprechaun who wants "me gold back." That's pretty much the plot, the little guy trying to get his gold back from a little boy and his mentally challenged friend. Aniston is serviceable, and Ken Olandt adds some beef for the girls. It's mindlessly entertaining, sort of a miniature Freddy Krueger villain.

    2 out of 5 stars Leprechaun (1993).......2005-12-31

    Director: Mark Jones
Cast: Warwick Davis, Jennifer Aniston, Ken Olandt, Mark Holton, Robert Hy Gorman, Shay Duffin, John Sanderford, John Voldstad.
    Running Time: 92 minutes
Rated R for language, violence, and gore.

The movie begins with an old Irish guy, drunk off his knocker, coming home to his house in North Dakota. He keeps saying he's rich and his wife keeps saying he's drunk, so he breaks open a bunch of ashes and takes out a few gold pieces. He reveals that he found a leprechaun (Warwick Davis) and now the leprechaun has given him all his gold. Having hold his precious gold stolen, the evil clubbed midget (or is it more politically correct to say "evil clubbed little person"?) attacks the Irish guy's wife and kills her. Once he's killed someone, he can use their voice. (One of the many unseen aspects of the leprechaun, it seems.) He lures the old man into the basement and toys with him. Finally, the old man traps him in a crate and nails a four leaf clover to the box. Fast forward to ten years later, with spoiled L.A. brat Tory (Jennifer Aniston) and her father move into the old Irish guy's house. She becomes friends quickly with her `hunky' (he looks like some country singer or something) nieghbor (Ken Olandt) and the town's pair of bumbling sidekicks, Alex and Ozzie (Robert Hy Gorman and Mark Holton). The group unfortunately opens the leprechaun's crate and the idiotic, yet humorous terror begins.

The acting, as in all movies of the genre, is pretty bad. Jennifer Aniston shows very little of the talent that would later come out. No one on the face of the earth in 1993 was thinking that she would later become one of the most well-known actresses of the past decade, and her performance is an indicator why. Warwick Davis, of "Willow" fame, plays the famed leprechaun, but he seems more disinterested by the role and actually performing it with some dazzle. The dialogue is pretty bad, although a couple of good lines do sneak by. Somehow, Leprechaun ends up equaling more than the sum of its parts with its juvenile humor and corny wit. It's not a good movie by any stretch, but ends up being tolerable for an hour and a half.

4 out of 5 stars Not bad, but only something for horror fan's.......2004-12-16

First off I will say that this DVD is only for Horror movie fans. It is not a documentry, what it is a 50 minute long main presentation of the best horror movie icons. and it shows a quick intro of that charactor, then an actual scene of one of the films they where in, and then moves onto the next... there's ALMOST all the fav's of the horror genre....

    - Jason Voorhees (Friday The 13th)
    - Freddy Krueger (Nightmare on Elm St)
    - Michael Myers (Halloween)
    - Chucky (Childs Play)
    - Blade (Puppet Master)
    - Leprochaun (Leprachaun)
    - Leather Face (Texas Chainsaw Masacre)
    - Fisherman (I know what you did last summer)
    - Ghost (Scream)
    - Candyman (Candy man)
    - Norman Bates (Phycho)
    - Simon Cartright (The Ugly)
    - Pin Head (Hellraiser)

But they have forgotten about a few that I thought should have been included...

    - Skeleton Zombie (Return Of The Living Dead 1 + 2)
    - Ghoulies (Ghoulies)
    - Carrie White (Carrie)
    - Evil Dead (Evil Dead Trilogy Villians ect..)
    - Critters (Critters)
    - Wicked Witch (Wizard Of Oz)
    - Crypt Keeper (Tales from the crypt)
    - Michael Jackson (Moonwalker)

The extra features are an Audio Commentary by Robert England (Freddy Krueger) which isnt something you'll listen to again I dont think, and you get an on screen trivia option which disaplys bits of information about the movie as it's playing the clip, i'd recomend you turn the trivia on and listen to the commentary at the same time to kill 2 birds with one stone.

There is a trivia game that is not worth looking at, you press start and it shows a picture and you just have to select what movie it's from, but there is no point, you can anser as many as ya want, it doesnt lead you to anything!

There is a biography of each of the people from the feature presnatation.

and Trailers to a couple of the movies on the feature, but not all of them.

There's also a link for anyone with a DVD on there computer, and your usual subtitles, 5.1 surround ect....

Overall: like I said, if you like horror movies, then you might like this if you care to know a bit of information on the films that you probably already knew, other wise it's not worth much, just seeing scenes from films together on one DVD is ok, but not lastingly thrilling, the scenes they chose couldve been better, they have picked some lame scenes to show in some areas. It would be great to see all of these horror icons meet on the big screen in an ultimate horror icon battle royal, but with all the copyright hassel to do something like that, this is most likely the closet we will get to see all of them together on the one show. I would recomend you rent it before you decide if you want to buy it.

4 out of 5 stars Boogeymen Great Tribute to Modern Horror.......2004-11-01

This past Halloween I found myself in a query. I wanted to watch a horror movie but I didn't know what I was in the mood for, and since I had to answer the door every so often I really didn't want a complex plot. I found "Boogeymen" in my collection and said PERFECT! And I was right. Little doses of Freddy, Jason, Chucky, Pinhead, Micheal Myers, Wishmaster, Leprechaun and many more, go a long way. The Trick or Treaters enjoyed seeing clips of these horror greats and I think I have found the perfect thing to play each Halloween. Also included are profiles of each killer, trailers for most films featured and an audio commentary by good ole Freddy himself. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

    3 out of 5 stars ICE T ROCKS.......2007-02-07

Not as entertaining as its sequel "Back to Da Hood", but you gotta love ICE T.

    1 out of 5 stars IRISH RAPPER.......2006-04-03

Here we go again...not only is this fifth entry in the LEPRECHAUN series unimaginative and repetitive, 95% of the dialogue contains profanity, profanity and more profanity. Shows that writers sometimes can't come up with legitimate dialogue and think that everyone in the world likes to use the F word in every sentence.
Aside from that though, the leprechaun franchise is worn out. The little leprechaun is always after his gold and the people who steal it are usually numbnuts or just simply stupid. The rap "music" in this film is bland and boring; the effects dimestore quality and hopefully even though there IS still another hood movie out, we won't be subjected to any more. Enough!!!

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as other lep movies.......2006-01-18

I am a fan of the Leprechaun series. I think the little guy is both scary and funny. Some of the movies are good, some are not so good. First of all, your common sense has to go out for a smoke while watching these films. I enjoyed 'In Space' and 'Back to the Hood'. But this one 'In the Hood' just isn't as good.

Sure it has it's moments. The film starts out promising enough with Ice T dressed like Rolo from Sanford and Son and sporting a Hendrix afro, but not even Mack Daddy can save this film.

The stereotyping is deliberate and hysterical. Who can't laugh when Lep says "Steal me gold youlittle hoods, ye got more balls than Tiger Woods!" Other moments of true comedy are when the blind grandmother is feeding Lep and accidently pulls his eye out with a fork, and the 'Church Rap'. The lyrics are dismal to say the least. "Jesus loves me this I know, if He don't I'll find a hoe." Brilliant.

Leprechaun has a lot of powers in this movie., He can make your gun heat up so that you drop it, he can make your insides explode, he can make you turn your own gun on yourself, and he does a little 'Invasion if the Body Snatchers' too. He gets his small band of "Fly Lep cootchie girls' to do his bidding.

The plot (yes there is one) is as asinine as they come. Not only does Lep have a pot o' gold, he has a magic flute. No matter how bad your music is, just blow the flute and everyone will think it's the greatest music they've ever heard. It's every rapper's and garage band's dream come true. Three young rappers with a positive message go hard core and use the flute to go to the top. However, only one survives. He does this by dressing up like a woman. Uh, you'll have to see this part yourself.

As much as I love lep though, there's one thing that he must never, ever do again. I like to see the little guy kill and mame, but Lord, don't let him sing again.

4 out of 5 stars Now I can die happy because.........2005-07-13

I have now seen everything..Irishmen and lovers of Gangsta Rap/ghetto movies now have something in common..'A Lep in Da Hood, the true O.G'..wow!! From the movie title and the fact that the Original Gangsta himself, Ice-T, stars in it, you should already realise that this is not going to be a good movie, if you expect anything else, then maybe you should cut down on that medication.
Anywhoos back to the movie, it has everything you could ask for from a low budget extravaganza, terrible acting, crass racial stereotypes, nausea inducing rapping and even worse rhyming from Da Lep. For the 'icing on the cake' you have a preposterous 'plot', which in no shape or form makes any sense whatsoever. In short this movie is atrocious, so bad that you can't help but enjoy yourself. The director is from the 1980's Sam Raimi school of movie making i.e. 'we'd like to make a scary movie, but we have a seriously low budget, so we are going to just settle for taking the piss' etc. It is hilariously bad, even more so in the rare scenes when it supposed to be serious. Thank God, there are still directors out there, who don't take themselves or their work seriously. What a great world we live in!
If you are looking for a good scare, look elsewhere, but if you consider yourself as I do, a connoisseur of bad movies, then you are in for a treat. If you, also like myself, posses a `cringe inducing' DVD collection, the kind that you are even afraid to show to your closest relations because it is so bad, then you must buy this, otherwise your life will not be complete.

2 out of 5 stars Green Clovers. Blue Moons. Bling Bling........2004-12-18

I was expecting this to be a disaster, after experiencing the abysmal 4th installment and later seeing the horrible 'Leprechaun Back to Tha Hood' before this. This one is actually okay for a crappy movie. (The whole series of films are stupid, but some of them are oddly entertaining).

Mack Daddy (Ice-T) steals the Leprechaun's flute in the 70s and traps the him with a magical golden chain that freezes him as stone. 30 years later, he's released when 3 aspiring musicians bust into Mac's home and rob it. They take the flute, which the Leprechaun wants back. So, obviously, he must kill them all. (The flute is also magical, and will make anything go your way when you blow into it...just thought you'd like to know).

This movie is stupid. It has stupid humor, which made me laugh occasionally, and it's not scary at all, but it was oddly entertaining. I'm giving it an extra star for the occasional enjoyment I had, and for trying to do something different with the series. A must view for fans, but if you're not a fan and you see this, you'll probably be seriously disturbed (but not by the movie). ...Especially at the end, when the Leprechaun raps. That was...um...interesting.

3 out of 5 stars Leprechaun is fear and loathing in Las Vegas.......2005-10-31

Leprechaun 3 is by far the best in the series next to part 2 and features some good makeup effects and a neat setting, the city of Las Vegas. Leprechaun somehow got into Las Vegas after a homeless man brings him into a pawn shop and is looking for a coin that is lost after a pawn shop owner is trying to keep it and then a college student is having trouble with his car and a stripper who works at a hotel plans to let him stay in the hotel and when he makes a wish to become a good gambler and win and ends up being the hotel's luckiest person to stay there and then Leprechaun plans to kill him after he finds out he has his gold coin. Leprechaun 3 is the best of the series next part 2.

The best scene is when Leprechaun is a magician and gets a chainsaw and cuts open a snotty magician and blood shots everywhere.

    3 out of 5 stars Leprechaun 3 (Three and a Half Stars).......2005-07-26

This review refers to the edition found in Trimark's "Leprechaun: Pot of Gore Collection" boxed set.

THE WHO'S WHO: Starring Warwick Davis, John Gatins, Lee Armstrong, Marcelo Tubert, John DeMita, Caroline Williams, Michael Callan. Score Composed By Dennis Michael Tenney. Directed By Brian Trenchard-Smith. (R) For Violence, Very Mild Gore, Profanity, Nudity and Sexual Content; 94m.; 1995.

WHAT'S GOING ON IN HERE?: They say the third time's the charm and this film tries its hardest to prove that theory correct. Our nasty little Leprechaun friend (Warwick Davis) has wound up in Las Vegas with his ever present pot of gold at his side. But when one of the shillings finds its way into the hands of college-bound Scott (John Gatins), the Leprechaun's infamous killing instincts surface once more. A new twist to the story this time dictates that the bearer of a Leprechaun's gold shilling will receive one wish. This comes into play often and, more often than not, backfires on the unsuspecting wish recipients. Director Brian Trenchard-Smith (best known prior to this for "Night of the Demons 2") brings a bit more humor and warmth to the series, infusing the slight story with charming characters and less bloodshed. Instead of being a drawback to the story, the minimal gore actually makes this film more enjoyable (Did I just say that? Who said that?) The personable cast also leaves their own unique impression on the viewer. John Gatins is a bright, more capable leading man than Charlie Heath could ever have dreamed of being but Lee Armstrong (as Tammy Larson) loses something in the translation of her character, making long-time Leprechaun fans ache for the better days of Shevonne Durkin and Jennifer Aniston. Armstrong may fill out a costume nicely, but her dry delivery alternates between being too gruff and too squeaky which doesn't fit well with the general feeling of the film. John DeMita (as The Great Fazio) is funny in his own way but the best support comes from Caroline Williams who turns in a marvelous performance as aging casino croupier Loretta. Michael Callan (as Mitch) is another first-rate supporting cast member who does his best to play off the stereotypical trappings of his casino owner role. The silly subplot between Tony (Roger Hewlett) and Arthur (Tom Dugan) trying to get money from Mitch could have easily been a distraction, but instead provides the film more opportunities for comic banter. As usual, Warwick Davis owns the film with his performance as the title monstrosity. The best moments come when the Leprechaun does his imitations. He first crosses paths with an Elvis impersonator (Terry Lee Crisp) and then he shows up on a television set as a lawyer, a preacher and a fortune teller. As an added bonus, the witticisms written for Davis are ten times better than the ones he had to work with in "Leprechaun 2". Behind the camera, Gabe Bartalos' wonderful make-up effects for the Leprechaun still have the power to startle, even though we've seen the creation twice before. Unfortunately, Dennis Michael Tenney's new score is only of marginal interest and doesn't properly measure up when compared to the previous two backdrops. Overall, there are far worse ways to kill an hour and a half than watching this film. You'll smile more often than you'll scream, but the point of a good movie is to be entertaining in whatever form it takes. By playing the audience for laughs instead of chills, this film succeeds in being an agreeable continuation of a minor masterpiece.

THEY SAY THEY'RE SPECIAL BUT...: The 1.33:1 full screen presentation for this film is relatively clear and free of grain. Considering the low budget status of the production, one wouldn't normally expect such clarity, especially for a film with as many grey and muted tones as this one. I'm always surprised by how rich and full Trimark's ultra stereo process sounds and this disc is no exception. Most of the sound effects are just as crisp as the visuals while all of the dialogue is well separated and even. There is also a Spanish language audio track for this movie as well as English, French and Spanish subtitles. Subtitles are lemon yellow and are fairly easy to read. The front cover for this DVD finds the devilish Leprechaun hovering in a stormy sky above Las Vegas. Lying on the road leading to the city is the Leprechaun's green hat. The back cover has all of the now traditional elements for this series including photographs, information about the film and the twenty-four chapter stops that divide this ninety-five minute movie. For the first time in the franchise, the DVD itself has been silver-topped. The title of the film has been imprinted on the top of the disc, along with a few extra tidbits of information. Once again, the exact same booklet from the previous two DVDs ("Trimark DVD: The Ultimate in Home Entertainment") can be found opposite the disc. Special features for this disc are limited to the original trailer (1:04) which is a regrettable bare bones affair that will probably steer just as many viewers away from this film as it will attract.

THE YOLK'S ON YOU: It's not much of a hidden feature, but it'll have to do. On the main menu for this disc, highlight the Trimark symbol in the lower right hand corner. You'll have access to trailers for the films "Leprechaun" (2:01), "Leprechaun 2" (1:16), "Leprechaun 4: In Space" (1:35) and "Leprechaun in the Hood" (which proclaims itself to be "Leprechaun 5") (1:56).

THE LEWD AND NUDE ALERT: Tammy Larson (Lee Armstrong) does a small striptease for Mitch (Michael Callan) while under the power of Mitch's wish but she comes to her senses just before she reveals anything. On the plus side, she does look extraordinarily hot in her black bra. After Tammy leaves, the lucky libidinous viewer is treated to another striptease. This time it's from a woman (Heidi Staley) on Mitch's television who winds up baring her luscious boobs. She also shows a hint of her black thong when she exits the television and begins to seduce Mitch.

THE GORE REPORT: There's a tiny amount of gore when a pawn shop clerk has part of his ear and his left big toe bitten off by the Leprechaun. Another small occurence finds Scott (John Gatins) receiving a nasty bite on his left arm. One woman explodes but there's very little in the way of actual gore. There is some nice blood during the "saw the man in half" sequence, but that's as gory as this entry gets.

SAY AGAIN: "So who do you work with, I mean, magician wise?" - Scott (John Gatins). "Right now, I'm assisting The Great Fazio." - Tammy Larson (Lee Armstrong). "What's a Fazio?" - Scott (John Gatins). "Well, Scott, a Fazio is a mediocre magician who couldn't pull a rabbit out of a pet store." - Tammy Larson (Lee Armstrong).

THE FINAL SAY: Yes, I recommend buying this DVD. If you've gone the way of the boxed set, "Leprechaun 3" is certainly a welcome addition. If you're buying it separately, this film still has a wealth of entertainment to offer. By changing the style of the movie in their subtle comedic fashion, the filmmakers have crafted a gratifying experience that fans of the series will definitely want to own in their private collections.

PLAY IT AGAIN, SAM: "Hooskow" Performed By the Assassins. "My Luck's Gonna Change" Performed By Jeff Robert, Andy Milukoff and Michael Kelly.

WOW!!!!!

Being reminded of the good ol' Lep from Stanley Runk's review of Leprechaun 1- I would like to submit my review of my personal favorite Leprechaun movie- Leprechaun 3- (or Davis takes Vegas whichever you choose)!

This is a truly chilling tale of terror, from the Elvis impersonators, to the main character turning into - guess what- a good ole Irish Leprechaun! One thing you've got to say about the Leprechaun series is that they're FUN and very creative in their stories. The Leprechaun has been in the Hood, Vegas, Space, and who knows where they'lll put him next. When did Freddy or Jason see that much action? Didn't think so. I hope they make at least 10 more.

5 out of 5 stars The Pinnacle of the Leprechaun Series - 10 stars off the Chart!.......2007-01-31

This the best Leprechaun Show ever and unfortunately the last good Lep flick. Lep in the Hood is just plain stupid. None of the Leprechaun movies were ever scary except perhaps the very first one. I think when the producers realized the comedy potential of the Leprechaun Series they just kept making each movie funnier until they exhausted the idea with the totally flat "Leprechaun in the Hood". I laughed so hard I couldn't breath when the space marine took a leak on the Leprechauns body only to later give birth to to the wise cracking Leprechaun via his own urethra! That's comedic genius to tenth power! It just keeps getting better. I tell everyone about this movie. The two best Lep movies are w/o a doubt Leprechaun in Las Vegas and Leprechaun in Space.

1 out of 5 stars LAMErechaun a PG13 rated movie if theyd just cut 1 pethetic un-needed scene).......2006-06-03

The first 3 Lep movies have been ok. But this one is a huge downfall of #### rolled into more ####.

    PLOT
Leppy is for some reason living on another planet and he has kidnapped some kind of alien princess who he intends to marry to make himself king and then do away with her once he has the power. But mirines come along and wreck Leps day when they blow him away and take his bride-to-be. Leppy regenerates on a space ship of the mirines and a science team and starts killing them off in search of his bride-to-be and gold. The mirines fight back, blah blah blah.

    OPINION
This movie sucks so badly on so many levels. Firstly the acting. Warrick Davis plays the charactor just as well as he always has, tho he's been given some really crappy lines to say. But he doesnt fit in well with the bad dialog and speech of the other zaney charactors. The German doctor is a combination of German stereotypes of a cross between Hitler and Seigfried of Get Smart with a lot of Coprel Clinger or whoever it was from that show. He is just an annoying voice and the actor even lets his English accent slip through quite often. The Mirine captain is a joke gone wrong. You cant even lagh at how bad it is, it's just petheticly bad. The other actors are somewhat trying to act, but theyre not going to have and future roles offered to them from this movie, thats for sure. I recignised one of them from Jason Takes Manhatten and he must be kicking himself he's been in two stinker horror flicks. The leading roles are a guy and a girl who you just dont care for and wont be admitting they did this movie when people ask them about themselves.

EFFECTS: The effects are terrible. There is no death scene woth looking at cause they are all cut away shadow kind of things to leave to your imagination cause they think its better that way but really it's because they spent all there money on the crappy CGI effects they put in. I wouldnt even say the special effects of this movie where up to childrens telivision standards. They where REALLY bad effects. The opening scene of them landing on the planet and a thunderstorm is around them as it pans to the cave they are in is super-dooper-BAD effects. I guess in 1997 they could claim there CGI technology wasnt so good... but who are they kidding, these graphics looked knocked up in about 5 minutes. Not to forget pointing out the unnesserssery nudity of a women who flashes her breasts that arnt worth looking at because on her planet that is how her people give you the there version of the "kiss of death" ... uh-huh, more like brainless priducers adding something they THINK will take your mind off the bad acting going on. Even at the end for absolutly no reason the heroine loses her pants and runs around in a one peice swimsuit... gimmie a break, it's just PETHETIC to throw that in for the hell of it. it WONT attarct ANYONE. it's so lame. IT DOESNT ADD ANYTHING TO THE MOVIE it takes it away.

No bonus features, thank god, i wouldnt have watched them, anyhow. Theres just the trailers of part 1, 2, 3 and 5. This is the worst in the Leprechaun series. This whole movie shouldve been cut down to an hour and been a TV epsiode of some lame-horror show they would put on somewhere. Not good enough for the twiglight zone or Tales From The Crypt not even Freddys nightmares! It wasnt scary and I wouldnt say there is any form of gore anywhere in the movie, maybe they could make it an episode of Goosebumps seeing as how PG rated the whole thing is without the nudity that should be cut out for being the most useless and pethetic scene in the whole film. THATS WHAT GAVE IT AN R-RATING...JUST THAT PETHETIC LITTLE UN-NEEDED SCENE!!!!!! If that scene gets cut, its PG13!
If any of the actors in this film ever caught a leprechaun, there first wish would be that this movie never got made or they just wernt in it.

I cant dismiss it as the worst thing ive ever seen tho, I didnt get tired and want to turn it off, i kept watching it it to see how bad and lame it would get. And it does become lamer and lamer as it goes.

I give it one and a half stars.

    4 out of 5 stars I am not Mitten-heim..........2006-01-13

    I am... MITTEN-SPIDER!!!

If you are opposed to a movie that includes that line, stop reading now. Even hardcore lep fans have been turned off by this amount of cheesiness.

Nearly everything in the movie is random. No explaination is even given for Lep being in space.

    Random clothes get torn off.

There are even random, gratuitous breasts.

The acting and cinematography are on par with the Star Wars Christmas Special (that will automatically turn anyone off to this movie who has seen the Christmas special... that .02% of you).

That said it's a comedy goldmine. There's always an excuse to laugh at what's on the screen.

It has to be seen to believed, so I'll stop talking. If you're going to buy this movie, you know who you are.

4 out of 5 stars Killer Tomatoes .......2005-12-12

If you enjoyed "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" you will love this film. That really sums up the whole thing. Don't expect great special effects or deep story lines. It is simply a piece of mind candy that is loads of fun to watch and laugh at, it is packed with all the stereo types, cliches and cheesy effects you expect from a great B movie. After catching it at 3:00 AM on TV, I enjoyed it enough to buy a copy. This is the only one of the "Leprechaun" series that I bought, or ever will buy.

3 out of 5 stars Leprechaun 4: In Space (Three Stars).......2005-08-01

This review refers to the edition found in Trimark's "Leprechaun: Pot of Gore Collection" boxed set.

THE WHO'S WHO: Starring Warwick Davis, Brent Jasmer, Jessica Collins, Tim Colceri, Miguel A. Nunez Jr., Debbe Dunning, Gary Grossman, Rebekah Carlton, Rick Peters, Geoff Meed, Michael Cannizzo, Ladd York, Guy Siner. Score Composed By Dennis Michael Tenney. Directed By Brian Trenchard-Smith. (R) For Violence, Very Mild Gore, Profanity, Nudity and Mild Sexual Content; 95m.; 1996.

WHAT'S GOING ON IN HERE?: Most of the filmmakers who took the nasty little Leprechaun (Warwick Davis) to Las Vegas have returned to put him in outer space for this fourth entry in the long running series. Somewhere in the future, a team of marines arrive on the planet Ithacon to save the beautiful Princess Zarina (Rebekah Carlton) from a loathsome alien menace (our homicidal anti-hero) who wants to wed her so he can rule the universe as a king. Somewhere along the line, the mission's priorities are changed by the shifty Dr. Mittenhand (Guy Siner) who has a more scientific purpose in mind for the rescued princess. There's a variety of new elements being added to this sequel; some of them work while others fall horribly flat. The worst aspects come from contrived plot points involving genetic experimentation and flat, lackluster settings that make the production feel unnecessarily claustrophobic. Even the Leprechaun's lair in the opening moments of the movie feels tiny and cramped, unlike the beseeming scope of the one utilized in "Leprechaun 2". Another disheartening fact is Dennis Michael Tenney's score. One would think it would have been impossible for him to create a backdrop more bland than the one he composed for part three of the franchise, however he proves it can be done with this humdrum hack. Fortunately for die hard "Leprechaun" fanatics, the best aspects of the film far outweigh the drawbacks. The agreeably corny one-liners prove that director Brian Trenchard-Smith hasn't abandoned the taste for lunatic comedy he displayed in "Leprechaun 3". Gabe Bartalos has done another wonderful job on the Leprechaun's make-up, not to mention the superb craftsmanship he displays on another monstrous creation during the latter half of the film. But the highlight of this entry is the underappreciated cast who put more effort into the movie than it probably deserves. Jessica Collins is a delight as Dr. Tina Reeves, overshadowing Lee Armstrong's leading lady role from the prior film. Brent Jasmer is personable enough in his role as Sergeant "Books" Malloy, he just doesn't have the overwhelming natural charisma John Gatins had in "Leprechaun 3". Rebekah Carlton is good as the Dominian Princess Zarina while veteran actor Miguel A. Nunez Jr. turns in another venerable performance as Sticks, adding to his list of horror credentials. Guy Siner makes a fair Dr. Mittenhand, but often times Gary Grossman steals scenes as Mittenhand's assistant Harold. The best support is provided by Tim Colceri as Sergeant Hooker. His transformation from a metal head marine into a transvestite assassin has to be seen to be believed. While the new cast stands out in this one, Warwick Davis' acting is old hat. He doesn't shimmer with the brilliant enjoyment he displayed in the previous three films. He's not exactly bored by the proceedings either, just overly familiar with the material he's been given. Overall, this is a fairly solid entry in a series that was slowly losing ground. With each passing installment, the filmmakers had to rely on new gimmicks to lure fans back to the franchise. While the addition of a space motif was a novel approach, true "Leprechaun" fans would have been just as happy to see our malicious villain stalking his victims back on Earth in a film more reminiscent of the first two entries.

THEY SAY THEY'RE SPECIAL BUT...: The 1.33:1 full screen for this film is the clearest presentation to grace a "Leprechaun" DVD yet, although its clarity does betray the monetary limitations of some of its special effects. Still, the colors are intense, flesh tones appear natural and black levels are deep and even. The accompanying audio track is full and bright, especially for a regular stereo sound track. There is also a Spanish language track on this film as well as English, Spanish and French subtitles. Subtitles are off-white in color and are fairly easy to read. The front cover for this DVD finds the beastly Leprechaun hovering in space with white/green lightning shooting forth from one of his fingers. Beneath him is a vehicular module next to a small American flag, both residing on the surface of some darkened, bleak outer space world. The back cover sports a bevy of photographs, information pertaining to the film and the twenty-four chapter stops which separate this ninety-five minute movie. The DVD itself is a silver-topped affair imprinted with the title of the film as well as other small bits of data. Opposite the disc is the exact same "Trimark DVD: The Ultimate in Home Entertainment" booklet that has bedecked the inner case of each previous entry to the series. Much like the other "Leprechaun" films, the only special feature found here is the original trailer (1:35) which is fairly funny and gives an accurate representation of the film's contents.

THE YOLK'S ON YOU: It's not much of a hidden feature, but it'll have to do. On the main menu for this disc, highlight the Trimark symbol in the lower right hand corner. You'll have access to trailers for the films "Leprechaun" (2:01), "Leprechaun 2" (1:16), "Leprechaun 3" (1:04), and "Leprechaun in the Hood" (once again displayed as "Leprechaun 5") (1:57).

THE LEWD AND NUDE ALERT: Viewers get to see former "Home Improvement" actress Debbe Dunning (as Delores) strut her stuff on the dance floor in a silver tank top and a pair of shorts. She also mimes milking one of her breasts before exiting for a tryst with her boyfriend Kowalski (Geoff Meed). We then get a few brief glimpses of her lovely breasts encased in a bra as she "shakes hands with the big guy". A vision of a nude Tina Reeves (Jessica Collins) appears outside a laboratory door, unfortunately Collins doesn't show anything revealing. That's a shame considering how enthralling she is. At least salacious viewers are treated to a few shots of her fine backside in tight clothing throughout the duration of the film. As an extra bonus, during the last act, Collins gets stripped of her red pants and spends the rest of the movie running around in a pair of little black panties. For those disappointed by the lack of nudity on Dunning or Collins' part, Princess Zarina (Rebekah Carlton) does give a very long view of her small but magnificent bosom just over an hour into the film.

THE GORE REPORT: In the early going, an alien life form gets fragged by an overanxious space marine, leaving quite an interesting carcass. One marine is reduced to a skeleton after encountering some flesh eating bacteria, though it's not a particularly gory scene. There are a few more smatterings of gore in other scenes, but there's nothing really worthwhile for cinematic bloodhounds to drool over.

SAY AGAIN: "Listen, you little pencil-necked geek! You give me the doctor...now, before I jerk out your teeth and sh*t down your throat!" - Sergeant Hooker (Tim Colceri). "Thank you, I've already had my lunch." - Harold (Gary Grossman).

THE FINAL SAY: Yes, I recommend buying this DVD. It's always a risky proposition to take an established horror character into the far reaches of outer space. While this fourth film doesn't live up to the expectations set by the original trilogy, it does feature some hilarious moments and should please anyone looking for a halfway decent time killer.

PLAY IT AGAIN, SAM: "Crazy For the Guy" Performed By the Deborah Holland Trio.

    1 out of 5 stars Haven't seen this movie.......2005-09-12

This isn't really a review but more of a comment on a previous review. One that says that makes the remark about it being a great family film about an Irish Leprechaun. Is there any other kind of leprechaun, besides Irish?
