As they celebrate their high school graduation, four friends are involved in a hit-and-run accident when their car hits--and apparently kills--a pedestrian on an isolated roadway. They dispose of the body and vow to keep the incident a secret, but a year later somebody starts sending them letters bearing the warning "I Know What You Did Last Summer." At that point the panicked foursome becomes the target of an elusive serial killer whose disguise consists of a fisherman's slicker and a lethal ice hook. Part mystery and part slasher flick, this thriller was heavily hyped as a follow-up to Scream by screenwriter Kevin Williamson (who later created the TV series Dawson's Creek), and like Scream it's a showcase for a teenage cast including Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar. And while this shocker isn't as inspired as Scream, it's guaranteed to give its target audience a few good thrills as it dives toward a routine climax of mayhem and murder. Based (rather loosely) on the popular novel by Lois Duncan. --Jeff Shannon

1 out of 5 stars jeee wizzz this film is trite and trivial: A ' 0' Star.......2007-05-25

The acting is beyond laughable. I would assume the majority of the individuals who shelled out 10.00 to see this in the theatres and made it gross the amount of loot it did, are the same ones who live in towns like Pawtucket, Rhode Island and New Bedford, MA and Hampton Beach, NH.

oh dear, truly, absolutely, without any question whatsoever: this is a total joke. Grody and simply unbearable.

4 out of 5 stars If Only.... They were all this original!.......2007-01-07

Without a doubt one of my favourite horror movies I have ever seen. The premise is original as well as interesting.

The core ensemble consisting of Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Phillipe are thrown into a terrifying quest to survive when they begin to recieve letters regarding an incident that happened the year before, involving the core cast.

The highlights of the movie would be the originality of the whole thing and the cast of actors whom at the time were upcoming talented actors..

And not to mention that Sarah Michelle Gellar has one of if not the most nail biting and amazing chase scenes in the history of horror films.

In conclusion a film that is definetly worth viewing just avoid the pathetic sequel attempts!

1 out of 5 stars Nothing is scarier than Freddie Prinze Jr's acting........2007-01-05

There are only two good things about this movie: one, the pure novelty of seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jennifer Love Hewitt in the same movie, and two, the great music (cool soundtrack, plus an actual appearance by Southern Culture on the Skids). Other than that, this is pretty darn bad. Although, I have to say that the laughably awful performance from Freddie "one facial expression for every occasion" Prinze Jr. can be really entertaining, but for all the wrong reasons. Also, this movie has what is probably the most ridiculous scene in the history of movies: the scene in which Jennifer Love Hewitt kind of starts to freak out, and the blonde dude grabs her and is practically strangling her, and her idiot boyfriend (Prinze, naturally) is just standing there like a dumb@ss watching him do it. Man, if anyone even thought about touching my girlfriend like that, I'd break his arm at the very least, I don't care if he's my friend or not. Well, at least they made fun of how dumb it was in "Scary Movie".

So anyway, yeah, one star for me. This was even worse than "Scream" (at least that one had a cool opening scene). My advice is to pick up the soundtrack, and leave the movie on the shelf.

4 out of 5 stars The actors make this movie!.......2006-08-26

If any other actors did this movie, I don't think anyone would've given it a second glance. But the superb cast makes a weak script (that has been done over and over!) work and makes one care about what happens to them.
It is grisly, of course, but you CARE what happens.
You can't go wrong with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze, Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt and Anne Heache.
They MAKE this movie!

5 out of 5 stars The most chilling movie that was made!.......2006-07-23

I Know What You Did Last summer starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Ryan Phillipe is by far my favorite horror movie in my mind. I've read the novel by Lois Duncan but this movie was far better.

Again its about four teens who accidentally kill a man on a 4th of July bash after being drunk. They make a pact to keep the truth a secret after they dump his body in the water. Julie James (Hewitt) feels bad for them and Barry Cox (Phillipe) is the one who refuses to tell and ruin his secret. About a year later after the first year of college, Julie gets a note from a mysterious stranger titled "I Know What You Did Last Summer" at first it seems like a joke after she reports it to her boyfriend Ray Bronson (Prinze), Helen, and Barry. Soon it starts to get deadly as a mysterious stranger in a hood starts to attack them and stalk them-literally.

He makes warning about when he will strike he actually lets them live-for awhile. Many scenes in the movie are so chilling that I was sweating. Finally the killer makes his movie and hunting each of them down one by one. Each character had their own depth to them. You could tell a lot about the characters. I hear that Lois Duncan was really upset that they made her classic novel into a slasher movie. She had no idea what she was getting into when she signed the release papers for her book so they could turn it into a movie.

Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The Grudge, The Grudge 2, Cruel Intentions, Scooby Doo 1-2, and the eagerly awaited Southland Tales) pretty much owned the movie. She was a great supporting character and you could tell a lot about her. There is so much depth to it. Sadly the killer chases her and slashes her to death.

The movie ended well only two of the four people who killed the man died. Barry and Helen died. As well as other non-important characters. I actually felt bad for the fate of Helen but in Horror movies thats what happens to the supporting female role. The end of the movie kept me breathless-that's because I saw it when I was 12 years old. This is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Older teens will be able to appreciate it! Have fun!

I hate it when studios release DVDs w/ features that aren't even on the discs. Albeit, I was interested in the bonus features "supposedly" on the first DVD, and disappointed, I never owned the original DVDs so this is okay. Yeah, I was pissed because I wanted the features but, oh well, can we sue the studios? I honestly don't know. But for the price I paid for these DVDs (13 dollars) I'll deal, just like J.Lo Hewitt does in that video on disc 2.

The hook-wielding Fisherman returns in the third installment of the popular teen-horror franchise based on Lois Duncan's novel I Know What You Did Last Summer. Jennifer Love Hewitt, who top-billed the previous entries, is nowhere to be found in this film, and the action has been moved from a fishing village to a Colorado ski community where a gaggle of attractive teens led by Amber (Brooke Nevin) are wrapped up in a prank gone wrong which again results in an unfortunate death. The friends commit to keeping the accident silent, until they are plagued by mysterious messages that implicate them in the murder. What follows is the standard stalk-and-slash, with the Fisherman (played here by Don Shanks) dispatching the guilty parties with a modicum of bloody special effects, until the inevitable showdown. Director Sylvian White, an acclaimed music-video helmer, pulls out all the visual stops to deliver a "cutting edge" thriller, but the story itself was drained of any interest by the two previous films, and what's left is a empty exercise in flashy excess that may prove a passing entertainment for teen viewers seeking a good excuse to scream (and snuggle). The DVD includes a making-of featurette and an anemic, tech-minded commentary track by White. --Paul Gaita

3 out of 5 stars This must be the users guide to: How do I rip off part 1 of the original and make it seem like its a new movie !.......2007-06-10

The only reason I bought this one was because it was dirt cheap. The 2nd one was already downright aweful, so my expectations for this one weren't exactly high. Basically part 2 & 3 are both suffering from what I like to call the Hollywood syndrome, namely that all the sequals are just bad to terrible.

This one is kept very close in almost all aspect to the original one, which was needless to say excellent and by far the best one of the movie. Here on the 3rd attempt of the original story, the urban legend, we have again 4 teenagers that are friends, 2 boys & 2 girls. Again they do something stupid on the 4th of July, and of course they make a promise to never talk to anyone about it, and again one year later they are not only no longer talking to each other, but are quickely forced to do so when the ever famous "I know what you did last summer" message come to one of them. And again they tend to quarrel more among each other thereafter instead of making efforts to stop the Killer.

Of course, all of this gives it more than just a deja vu feeling, and dosen't exactly make it anymore unpredictable either. But even so, this isen't the reason why I didn't think it was really good, its simply the terrible end, that ruins it for me. Here we find out that the killer is not even human and, thus has supernatural powers. I guess, the makers couldn't find anyone who would be believable to be the Killer. Already making the Killer the father of the original killer in the 2nd Part was not only rediculous, but had so many plot holes in it, that you could drive trucks through them. With this type of an end, the Killer being supernatural, the makers also ruined the story line. I mean if this time the Killer is supernatural, what the heck, does that mean for the story? That it dosen't matter who the killer really is, since he might as well be supernatural, and come out of thin air? This just isen't at all convincing.
Nonetheless, I must say that this DVD has its moments, during those I found myself repeadly asking who could be the killer, who has a motive, and there were serval people who could have been the psychopath. As already stated it was the disappointing and lame ending, that not only refused to make much sense, but also ruined discovering a sensible answer to that question of who the killer was.

Anyways, if you're looking for a great Horror-Thriller don't bother, because you will most likely be disappointed with this one, but if you want a decent, somewhat suspensful, movie this one is at least good enough to do the job, save that unfortunate ending.

5 out of 5 stars I know what you did last summer the trilogy........2007-06-01

My son and I were excited when I know what you did last summer The Collection arrrived. We watched all three films, and were very pleased with the Cinamatogrophy, and special effects. In short I Know What You Did Last Summer The Collection are the best horror films I've seen in years.

1 out of 5 stars If you've seen the first one, then you've seen this one........2007-03-21

Wow, you know they didn't need to even make this one other than the fact that they want to keep the franchise alive, with this.....this garbage rehash. Once again a group of teenagers do something really stupid on the fourth of July and a kid ends up dead. This time impaled on a tractor smoke stack after skate boarding off a cement rail, running from the fisherman in the rain slick brandishing his usual hook. However when the Killer ends up being a prank, the kids responsible take the secret to the grave. Just like in the original "I know what you did Last summer"
Now its a year later.....again...and someone knows what they did.....again, and thats when the killing starts.....again, whose the killer, give you three guesses but you'll probably only need one. This movie is an unoriginal carbon copy of the Original, only with a worse script, so-so acting, and lousy gore effects and almost identical plot devices. The whodunit factor is in use here, but falls a little short for any kind of intrigue.
Save your cash folks this movie isn't worth the plastic that its burned on. Bottom Line.....@#$%*&! Garbage!

2 out of 5 stars I KNOW WHAT YOU DID TRILOGy.......2007-03-15

I thought the first two movies (I know what you did last summer) (I still know what you did last summer) were fairly exciting and fun (at least 3 out of 5 stars even if they were cliche) but the last one (I'll always know what you did last summer) is kind of slow, although it's not altogether terrible, it's just not great.

What really turned me off was the setting of the carnival which I've seen dozens of times before, and the whole thing with the prank gone wrong, which I didn't buy.

By the time you get around to part three, the urban legend bogeyman isn't doing too much new and this slasher movie is just starting to repeat the others. It could have been worse as a final to the trilogy, but it's just borderline ok for a teen flick, if it comes as part of the collection.

There was so much story left to tell after I Know What You Did Last Summer that the filmmakers brought back all the beloved, surviving characters from the first film for this sequel. Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), and Julie's white tank top (Jennifer Love Hewitt's white tank top) return to once again face a hook-wielding maniac. Not satisfied merely to repeat a theme, director Danny Cannon and screenwriter Trey Callaway add variation by introducing Karla (Brandy) as Julie's best friend in the whole wide world. Karla and Julie have won a summer trip to the Bahamas with their current infatuations but find that they've arrived at the start of the storm season and that at their hotel "Do Not Disturb" signs should flip to say "R.I.P." One can only hope to hang just such a sign on this repetitive, tedious franchise, especially since this version is less scary than the price of beer in those little hotel room refrigerators. Definite contender for Gratuitous T&A Shot of the Year (it's of Hewitt and that's not meant as a recommendation). --Keith Simanton

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars so awful, it's not worth reviewing.......2007-06-20

amazing 109 people out of 295 gave this sickening display of B-cinema uniform acting no-no's...five stars. Horrendous, exceedingly poor inception, timing, predictable, not fun, not scary, not suspensful, lacked character development, irritating and nauseating tension, if any; grade school level acting responses to often life threatening situations, freddie prinz jr is enough to make this film a one star from jumpstreet, jennifer hewiit is cute...cute, not talented, cute.

The whole film is a basis of a makover of Scream which just goes to show, that anyone...ANYONE...can be famous...that is food for thought for all your theatre majors and film students.

Save your money, and save your precious time, avoid this film. "Uh, duh, uh duh," that is how one feels after viewing this atrocity; this mindless banter of redundant B film acting.

PATHETIC. I still dont know why I watched this. I still dont know why I'm reviewing this.

2 out of 5 stars Decent...garbage.......2006-10-14

I Still Know I Did Jennifer Love Hewitt Last Summer.....oops that's not what it's called...my bad. Anyway after the first ended with Hewitt getting attacked by hook man she's back and I guess we're supposed to believe the end of it was just her dreaming. In this her and her victims....I mean friends go on a trip "that she won on the radio" to a tropical island. Of course it rains there the entire time. I guess that was hook man's plan, to get her on a spooky looking tropical island and he must control the weather too "damn you hook man!". Actually no, because of him making it rain, we get to see her in tight shirts in no bra in the rain yelling "what are you waiting for!, what are you waiting for!, I need new lines!, I need new lines!".

Well guess I made it obvious that once they get their Hookie is there as well. He starts killing people...., including the nice drug dealer played by Jack Black. He gives his best performance ever!! Okay I'm just kidding, he's annoying. Since hookie wants Hewitt dead, it puts her friends in danger. Which pisses off Brandy's horny b/f played by Mekhi Phifer (E.R, 8-Mile) who's just on the island to do the nasty with her. While Freddie "I act so bad even my show was canceled" Prinze Jr. steals a boat to come to the rescue. Nope he doesn't rescue the movie with his acting abilities.. I actually found the movie to be a decent slasher flick. But the end is just awful and isn't needed. It should've just ended with Hookman realizing that Hewitt looked hot in a wet tight t-shirt and asking her to marry him. Instead he still wants to just kill her for being one of the people that threw him off a dock after hitting him with a car. You would think this guy would've just got a life by now.

Director: Danny Cannon
Cast: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Brandy Norwood, Mekhi Phifer, Muse Watson, Bill Cobbs, Mathew Settle, Jeffrey Combs, Jennifer Esposito.
Running Time: 100 minutes
Rated R for intense terror violence and gore, strong language and some drug use.

It might not have been the greatest movie ever made but, thanks to the canny direction and score, "I Know What You Did Last Summer" was a very effective thriller. Shame the same can't be said of this sequel, which crams in every slasher cliché known to man with such little awareness of how hackneyed it all is that it actually seems to believe this is scary stuff. In a fit of apparent desperation, writer Trey Callaway packs Julie (Hewitt), survivor of the first film, off to an island in the Bahamas when she wins a holiday thanks to a radio show calling her number. Joining her is fish-faced Karla (Brandy), her boyfriend Tyrell (Mekhi Pfeiffer, who I seem to remember used to have a promising career) and spare wheel Will (Matthew Settle). Joining them soon after that is the killer fisherman, who engineered the prize (the fact that Julie's number's unlisted doesn't set off any warning bells) and proceeds to slice his way from one end of the movie to the other. There are no boats scheduled for days, the phones don't work, and there's a storm on the way...you get the picture.

You can practically hear director Danny Cannon, whose last movie was the underrated "Judge Dredd" and who deserves a lot better than this, sighing behind the camera at just how witless all this is. Cannon does manage to captivate the beautiful island scenery and the excellently-captured eeriness of the hotel at which the quartet of teen protagonists are vacationing (it's also a sort of sad waste of overall possibilities when you reflect on how they utilized these potent settings); a couple good scares throughout, though nothing scary, as if any movie could be deemed such; Freddie Prinze, Jr. is certainly not a notable talent, yet he exudes sufficient charm and is a likable hero; Mekhi Phifer, in a stereotype black tough-guy role, gives his role some enjoyable attitude, but his disbelief of Julie's claims that a killer's on the loose become tiring and cruel. "I Still Know..." fails due to a maddening lack of logic, intelligence, and most plausible qualities of humanity in all the characters; entirely arbitrary and thus boring murders of all the islanders we don't even really know is an obvious compensatory ploy for the fact that only two of main five characters are killed; technically mediocre acting (except Hewitt), plus bothersome, forgettable work from newcomer Brandy; low-IQ script; splotches of incompetent directing throughout; an incredibly demeaning and character-betraying "shocker" finale that essentially tosses this film into the pile of identical slasher formula flicks from the past 20 years. Our only consolation is that it may just be a dream, a la the "surprise" ending of the first "I Know What You Did Last Summer"...I guess we'll find out if and when "I Still Know What You Did Lots of Summers Ago" is made.

I Know What You Did Last Summer
And while this shocker isn't as inspired as its predecessor, it's guaranteed to give its target audience a few good thrills as it dives toward a routine climax of mayhem and murder. Based (rather loosely) on the popular novel by Lois Duncan. --Jeff Shannon

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
Karla and Julie have won a summer trip to the Bahamas with their current infatuations but find that they've arrived at the start of the storm season and that their hotel "Do Not Disturb" signs should flip to say "R.I.P." One can only hope to hang just such a sign on this repetitive, tedious franchise, especially since this version is less scary than the price of beer in those little hotel-room refrigerators. Definite contender for Gratuitous T&A Shot of the Year (it's of Hewitt and that's not meant as a recommendation). --Keith Simanton

1 out of 5 stars i know what you did for a payday!.......2006-06-29

these two movies are bottom of the barrel "slice and dice" movies and don't stand the true test of a good horror movie,do i want to see it again?(not on your life)! to be kind the first"summer" does show some sparks at first but soon settles into grab bag of every horror shock trick in the book. the actors try hard, but they just can't get past the hackend script and the lifeless direction!
"still" is worse than the first and even goes so far as to making great leaps over plot holes just to get to the gore!
skip it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars The first is better then the second..........2006-04-19

...I Know were you did Last Summer was a good movie. About 4 friends who hit a man and since they thought he was dead (and didn't want to get into trouble) they droupped him to the bootom of and ocean. The following summer, they are begin stalked by someone who knows what they did...who could it be?

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer was good too. Julie made new friends in college, and are taking a trip to the Bahamas. The weather is horrible, raining all day; the resort in empty, except for a few employees; and someone still knows what Julie did a few summers before.

All in all, these were good movies. They are not scary scary, but it does have it's moments that you will jump. I think that the first one is somewhat better then the second; but this does not mean that the second one is bad. I usually always feel in in a sequal or tridigy (whatever the case may be) the first one is better; it starts you off. Without the first movie, there wouldn't be a second or third. I'm probably not explaining it correctly, but I like the first one better.

Enjoy!

3 out of 5 stars Well the second is better than the first..........2006-03-31

I hate JLH, and in these films she solidifies her annoyance...but for some reason i actually like the sequel...It's much darker and gorier than the first one. So, I say by the box set because a sequel is nothing without the original, but be prepared to tolerate the original and like the sequel (notice I say like and not love since these movies are far from great)...Brandy is actually a decent actress and is much better than JLH and steals the scenes from under her...All in all it's decent, not great, but worth a watch if your a diehard horror fan...

4 out of 5 stars 5 for 1, 3 for 2.......2006-02-21

I really enjoyed the original movie. Tons of great actors, and interesting story, and enough twists to keep things interesting. The second movie was more of a typical killer chasing someone an entire movie with a twist at the end. This is a nice set, 2 movies for just a little above what you would pay for 1. If you enjoyed the Scream movies and things like Urban Legends, then this one should be right up your alley.

4 out of 5 stars I Know What The Other Reveiwers Were On Last Summer.......2005-08-08

I don't know what every one is talking about.I know ISKWYDLS was better than the first. To Me the first one was okay but they killed off Sarah. She was better than julie.the only thing the first one was good for is little five second scares. Now the second one I enjoyed. The suspenceful chase sequences, all the screaming, the rain and the big mystery of who the second is all made it a fun movie to watch.I'm not saying that the first one wasn't good but It was trying to hard to be like scream. And plus the real chase scenes didn't happen until the end.in the second one the chase seguences came earlier in the movie. Now I Still Know What You Did Last Summer was no Scream but it was way better than it's predecessor.Just hope IKWYDLS-The Final Hook will be better

Have fun!

I Know What You Did Last Summer
