4 out of 5 stars A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge.......2007-03-12

PLOT: Jesse's just your ordinary, young, badly dressed misfit. But, there's only one problem...he moved into the house from the original film, and now he's being posessed and tormented by the crispy child killer Fred Krueger.

MY REVIEW: You know, this movie is really not as bad as other people say. The major reason people hate it is its "homosexual" references. Sure, there were some parts where I thought some gayness was implied, but it wasn't much of a distraction. I like how this sequel went in a different direction than the original. It's both a slasher and a haunted house/posession flick, which I found refreshing. The acting was surprisingly good, and there's ample gore. I say, if you're a Nightmare fan, like me, then this is a must-see. If you're just a casual horror fan, you should see it also. Oh, and be sure to look for Robert Englund minus his Freddy makeup in the opening sequence.

ACTING: Mark Patton (Jesse) was believable as the outcast teenager. His chemistry with Kim Meyers (Lisa) was dead on. Robert Englund (Freddy) is thankfully kept in the shadows and still scary. He creeped me out, especially during the pool party massacre scene.

GORE: we get an exposed brain, a sliced open back, slashings, one boiled teen, Freddy bursting through someone's chest (awesome), and more

SOUNDTRACK: The original's memorable score returns, and it works. Other than that, we get some forgettable 80's pop songs.

OVERALL: 4/5 stars

4 out of 5 stars Freddy's Revenge from the first nightmare of a movie.......2007-02-14

Freddy is one of the most three easily recognized horror movie characters in the world. Most people don't know the names of the movies, but they know the glove. Just like, they don't know Friday the 13th, but they know the hockey mask. In 1984, the horror world was set on fire by NMOES the original. How.... well I don't really know. I think this movie is much better than the original, and my favorite out of the series and here's why.

First, the script is much better. The first movie had a ton of holes in it, and the dialogue between the characters seemed akwardly structured. It's like that akward group date with a person that your friends want you to meet, except your watching it. You know the characters should be saying something but they aren't. Another big problem is time in the script. Nancy tells her dad to come over to her house in twenty mintues. During those 20 mintues she manages to set up numerous booby traps to catch Freddy, have a heart to heart conversation with her mom, and still have 10 minutes to fall asleep.

The second movie, the script feels natural. There are some pretty funny parts in the script, and the dialogue between the characters seems real. I understand these movies aren't oscar worthy but still. The best example is when the girl asks the male lead why he doesn't use a key to start his car. She says "Well, someone could steal your car, couldn't they?" and then he says "The deadly dinosaur?" Just the way they talk sounds real, it's not that normal cheesy horror movie line.

The second thing this movie does better is the acting. Nancy from the first movie is down right horrible. It's not that she's that bad of an actor. She does a great job with the chase sequences and acting scared. Where she faulters is the way she says the lines. They just feel so forced, like your watching a middle school play. When she yells "KRUGER!! KRUGER!! COME GET ME YOU.....B****D" it just feels akward. Even when she says something simple like "SC**W SLEEP, or S***W YOUR HALL PASS!!!" it just doesn't work. They should have had the girl who played Tina play Nancy, she would have done much better.

The second movie, the male lead delivers. Sure, some parts are a little over the top but he really does a good job with the character. He's a teenage boy, who wants to fit in, but has a weak mind, perfect for Freddy to take over. I thought it was a cool idea, that not only could Freddy attack you in your dreams, he can also take over your concious mind. I mean, why not? It's still mental right?

The third thing this movie does better is editing and effects. The first one the effects were okay for the budget they had, but often times it cuts away so fast you don't know what happened. Or they show them too long and the effect is lost. This one times it just right. It's long enough to gross you out, but short enough not to lose the effect of it. Plus they had a bigger budget, but I think the first movie could have been a lot better with better editing.

This isn't the greatest horror movie ever, but I think it's right up there. It's definitely my favorite out of the series. Some people say it's filled with homosexual references and things, but I never got that out of it. I thought it was a good twist on the original movie, and made very well. You can think what you want, but the first movie for me, doesn't get it done. It has too many holes and gaps to be effective.

2 out of 5 stars I'm having trouble deciding which one's the worst...........2006-12-08

I can't decide whether this or Freddy's Dead is the worst of the Nightmare series. It saddens me to give this 2 stars; Freddy Krueger is my favorite horror icon, but even I have to admit that this movie is pretty bad. Freddy's Revenge has nothing to do with the first movie, and worst of all, Jack Scholder made the body count in this movie so high that it made the movie into a generic, cliche slasher film (like a few of the Friday the 13th movies). And the majority of the people Freddy kills have no story behind them. It was just a pretentious way to scare people. All the people Freddy kills in the other movies have a story behind them and actually play a role in the movie, but this one, with the exception of Jesse's P.E. coach and his best friend, have nothing to do with the story.

And another thing, why would Freddy need to possess a pu$$y kid (Jesse) to kill people? All he needs to do is wait for them to sleep and then kill them in an interesting way. But here, he literally rips through Jesse's body to kill people. What a bunch of BS. And when Freddy is in the real world, his powers are NOT intact! We learned that from the first movie! Oh, and one last note on the people who Freddy randomly killed: There's a reason Freddy has come back to kill kids in their dreams - he is getting revenge on the parents who torched him in his boiler room, after finding out who the child killer was, by killing their kids. In this part of the story, it's not his intention to kill random kids, only those who are the kids of the parents who torched him (but in Nightmare 4, he uses someone to get through to other kids who have nothing to do with his death. Of course, there's an explanation behind that).

Personally, I don't consider this a part of the Nightmare series. Nightmare 3 - another slasher masterpiece that properly continues the story of Freddy - should have been the 2nd movie. This is just some abomination that screwed up the series, and was a major letdown to all fans. If you must have everything Freddy Krueger (like me), get this movie used and really, really cheap; or just buy the Nightmare on Elm Street box set, which contains all 7 movies. 3 of them are excellent (Nightmare 1, 3, and Wes Craven's New Nightmare), 1 generally good movie (Nightmare 4), 1 decent movie (Nightmare 5), and 2 awful movies (this and Freddy's Dead). Also get Freddy Vs. Jason, which I put in the same rank as Nightmare 4 (generally good). However, if you're only a casual fan, don't even bother with this one.

2 out of 5 stars Not scary.......2006-11-20

I just didn't find this second installment to Nightmare On Elm Street scary at all. And neither did my Dad. It's definitely, so far, the worst Freddy film. The only bit that really freaked me out was the demonic parakeet, and that's mainly because I have a bird myself. I didn't like the lead guy either - he was a bit wimpy wasn't he? It also has the highest body count of all the Nightmare films, but none of them were that different to any other slasher movie.

I hope the rest are better, cos I did buy the seven disc box set. Hmmmm. It also doesn't use Charles Bernstein's original theme, or a variation of it, which is disappointing, as I do like that theme.

I'm gonna try and forget this film, and keep watching the rest, I just hope this was just a mishap.

Oh, and look out for the REAL Robert Englund in a very, very brief role as the bus driver in the opening sequence. It's very quick, and you'll be thinking "did I see him or didn't I?" Yes, it is him.

3 out of 5 stars Very hard to judge this one !!!.......2006-10-19

I have only seen parts 1 and 2 so far, and part 1 was better by a mile. The soundtrack rocked, the characters were likable and the fatalaties were also cool. Also, in part 1 Freddy can only kill in someones dream /nightmare, but in part 2 he enters reality. Well, now that I got that out of the way, I think that part 2 is not a bad film if you disconnect yourself from the rules of Freddy. I found part 2 to be a darker film, though lacking the shocks, thrills and scares provided in part 1. There are a few cool moments in it and there are some very dodgy. But overall it isn't too bad to watch and is an interesting twist to the rules of the original. Another thing I like about it is that this is not as memorable as part 1 is, making the life span much greater, atleast for me. That's why I've given it 3 stars.
Can't wait to watch part 3.
