Editorial Review:
Amazon.com
This wild, operatic 1986 sequel to 1974's low-budget horror hit--The Texas Chainsaw Massacre--is an extraordinary film that demonstrates just how far filmmaker Tobe Hooper had grown in the interim between the two movies. (Between the two movies, Hooper directed, among other things, the Spielberg production Poltergeist, the critically admired Lifeforce, and the spooky remake of Invaders from Mars.) In Massacre 2, Hooper enlists Dennis Hopper as a Texas Ranger seeking vengeance against the flesh-eating family that was introduced in the first film. Meanwhile, a radio deejay (Caroline Williams) is kidnapped by the family and brought to their underground lair. The performances are crazed, terrifying, and comic; the chainsaw fights are practically epic; the lighting and camera work are artful; the emotions are strong; and the ending is astounding, unparalleled in its imagery and force. --Tom Keogh

Description
From the director of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, this ghastly and hilarious (Variety) sequel descends into your deepest, darkest fears as a wacked-out lawman goes after human meat-cutters with his own high-octane chainsaws in a horrific showdown with the legendary leatherface and his entire cannibalistic family. For 14 years, former Texas Ranger Lefty Enright (Oscar® nominee* Dennis Hopper, Hoosiers) has been obsessed with finding the psychotic mass-murderers who killed his brother's children. And today he's in luck. A tough as nails late-night disc jockey (Caroline Williams, Days of Thunder) has caught the ghouls on tape in the act of slicing and dicing a couple of fun-loving rich kids. When she volunteers to help, Lefty persuades her to play the tape on-air to lure the maniacs out of hiding. But what she doesn't know is that she's the only witness to this diabolical family's butchery who hasn't been carved up for somebody's supper just yet! *1986: Supporting Actor, Hoosiers; Original Screenplay, Easy Rider

dennis hopper is F****ing crazy.......2007-06-12
this film is by far the worst in the "texas chainsaw massacre" franchise.
the leather face in this one is a pussy with emotions. the only good things about this film is 1. dennis hopper; f-en crazy in this one. hell bent on killing the rabid family of psychos. 2. the gore was great, very cheesy in parts but very cool. and reason number 3. the brother in this one is great very good actor, you may even reconize him from "house of 1000 corpses" or "devils rejects". I give this one 4 stars because i love the genre and you just cant go wrong on buying this collectors edition if youre a fan, Its a must have.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre P.2.......2007-05-28
One of the best horror films available. The bonus features contain so much good stuff, I can watch over and over.
A must for any horror fans collection!
this is a good movie too.......2007-03-15

chainsaw.......2007-02-06
its the reatest movie in the series i ever seen because you dont get the title in austria and germany i bought in the usa and i must say its great
This was a horrible movie.......2007-01-15
This movie terrible in almost every way. The only thing that saved it was that hilarious cop running around aimlessly around their base cutting random pillars, and the chainsaw fight he had with Leatherhead. And that brother with the silver plate on his head was more annoying than creepy. Every ten seconds he was on screen he would blurt out some random word. Then at the end you have that DJ twirling the chainsaw over her head just like Leatherface did at the end of the first one. If you can catch this on TV then give it a view just for the comedy aspects, but it doesn't deserve to become part of any collection.

The 2003 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre adheres to the pure and simple slasher movie formula: Introduce a gaggle of sexy young people, make vague gestures to distinguish them--Jessica Biel (Summer Catch) wants to get married and doesn't like pot, so she's our moral compass--then start hacking them to pieces one by one. The visual palette includes grimy crucified dolls, fly-specked pig carcasses, body parts floating in murky jars, a tobacco-chewing redneck sheriff, and many slender beams of sunlight cutting through dank, dusty interiors. The camera lovingly photographs Biel's tank-topped bosom and sculpted abs as she's running in terror from a bloated, chainsaw-wielding, human-skin-wearing maniac. This remake lacks the macabre comedy of the original; it's all about the nauseating sensation of waiting for something to jump out of the dark. Also featuring Eric Balfour (Six Feet Under) and R. Lee Ermey (Full Metal Jacket, Mail Call). --Bret Fetzer
Customer Reviews:
Gave me chills!!.......2007-06-21
When this movie first came out, I remember going to the theatre to watch it. It was sometime around Halloween and because I'm a huge fan of the holiday, I thought watching this would be fun. I love scary movies. Nothing really scares me anymore because most scary movies have the same storyline so what's to be scared about? However, this movie had me covering my eyes during some parts and it gave me chills.
So what's this movie about? If you've seen the original, it's basically the same thing. If you haven't, here's a brief rundown. A group of kids are on a roadtrip when they spot a girl on the side of the road. When they pick her up, they discover that something is terribly wrong. Upon looking for help, they come across a host of creepy people including one in particular, a chainsaw-wielding killer.
What's to like about this movie? First, this movie contains an abundance of famous actors and actresses including Jessica Biel (which is refreshing to watch her go from 7th Heaven to a horror flick), Eric Balfour, and R. Lee Ermey. There's a ton of eye candy in this movie for those who like that sort of thing. Second, the beginning of this film states that it's based on a true story. If you're a crime buff like I am, you'd know that this movie is based extremely loosely on Ed Gein, a serial killer who mutilated women and made various items from their body parts. If you attempt to believe the "based on a true story" part, this movie is even better. To think that there's a lunatic out there that chases people with chainsaws and experiments with their bodies is almost too much to bear. Third, not including the gory scenes, there are a lot of disturbing characters and scenes that will shock you. And lastly, fans of scary movies should enjoy something new based on a classic.
And what's not to like? Look, in general remakes tend to be not as good as the original. If you like older scary movies, you probably won't like this one. I personally prefer this movie to the original but I understand why some people prefer the original.
If you're looking for a good scary movie and don't really care how it compares to the original, check this one out.
Better than the original version..........2007-06-15
Had a bit of a read up on Amazon.com from people who had seen the movie and they all said it was totally frightening, you wouldn't see this alone in the dark, even with the light on, one boy's arm hairs were standing on end.
So, as you do when so many say the same sorts of things; this embedds in the back of your brain, and you subconsciously expect to see the worst of the worst. Not worst as in bad, but worst as in gruesome, horrifying, nightmare-inducing. (Not much use for me as I ALWAYS have nightmares, with or without horror movies!) :P
First of all, I just want to clarify that the Chainsaw Massacre WAS enjoyable to watch. As all horror movies are. However, the amount of violence, squirmish deaths and suspense was very, very low. In other words, it was hardly HORRORfying. Hah. Ha. Lame. joke. time.
There are two kinds of cliches in most horror films which are usually done over and over again. One being the murderer depicted as a male. The other, a disfigured monster-like looking face that looks inhuman. This just makes the movie seem silly and unrealistic, whereas you want to be engrossed and frightened by what the murderer is planning, instead you feel like the character is just another outtake or backbencher from an old Star Wars movie.
The normalest looking people can often be the most suspicious of criminals, they aren't all ugly and freakish, some can be the most calmly spoken and well dressed 'saints' you could ever meet. You never know what's really going on inside someone's brain until they moment their true intentions come out, and they snap. That's why you gotta be wary of strangers until they can prove their honesty, loyalty and trust, and even then they can let you down further down the track...
It's also hard to tell in these movies of torture, the exact reasons for wanting to do certain things. For example, the teenagers hooked up on a meat hook; are they cannibals? Do we see any evidence of cannibalism? What exactly are all the jars and bits of thread? What do they do there when they're not chopping pigs and tourists up? Do they do this sort of thing all the time? Who is the man in the wheelchair? None of these questions are really answered; and if they are, they aren't answered very well...
The violence was medium. The most blood you ever get is when one of the characters blows their head off in the back of a van. And even then there is not a lot of blood. The deaths are drawn out and hardly make you hide behind your lounge chair in fear. No headless corpes or halved bodies from the maniac weilding the chainsaw, as soon as someone gets cut, the cameraman seems to move away from them as if they too, as well as the audience, are creaming their pants wondering what will happen next.
But thankyou all the same for this movie; I don't hate it and will definately hang onto it. A good movie to see at random times and watch like it's never been seen, thus creating the thrill once again.
Oh, and is this honestly a true life story? Well, they do say truth is stranger than fiction... definately in this case it would be true!
You've got to admit that chainsaws work pretty well in horror movies.......2007-06-07
Slick, watchable fun... perfect for when you don't want to slog through a complicated plot but just want some scary scenes and gruesome villains. The opening and closing sequences, which make the movie feel like one of those "true crime" shows that endlessly play on the A&E channel, are also effective.
But it's probably the gore you'll remember most about this. The other reviewers are right: whatever your opinion regarding how this movie compares to the original artistically and creatively, this remake is inarguably MUCH gorier than its predecessor. Having said that, however, I still think the film pulls its punches on a few occasions, probably to secure its "R" rating and avoid the dreaded, unmarketable "NC-17". If you think today's horror movies rely too much on gore, you'll likely appreciate the occasional restraint here. Myself, I think if you're paying to see a movie called "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", you know what you're signing on for and don't need to be protected. But I have to admit that, even with the filmmakers' occasional squeamishness, this certainly is no Disney movie and, as a whole, it does deliver the goods.
And having Jessica Biel running around in it ain't bad, either.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974 vs. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003:.......2007-05-20
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974:
* This one is SOO MUCH SCARIER AND SUSPENSFUL!!!
* The evil gang desing is SOO CREEPY!!
* The settings are also scarier.
* There are more screams here.
* The story here is better.
* The violence is more realistic.
* The ending is SO MUCH BETTER!
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003:
* Better budget.
* Better acting.
* More blood and gore.
* More graphic violence.
To my conclution, no need to say that the 1974 version is beter! But if you only want to see blood and gore then I recomend this one.
adios.
Review.......2007-05-01
Being the horror movie buff that I am, I can honestly say that few movies have kept me on the edge of my seat like this one did. It may fall into your typical "slasher movies" category but it does that with excellence. Yes, it features the usual bunch of kiddos herded by a blonde chick with a cleavage; yes, they're lost in a creepy ghost-town; and yes, almost all of them die a gruesome death. Yet despite all that, the film is just utterly fun. You indulge in your fear. I literally had to bite my fingers throughout to make sure they were there. The brick house where all the freak-show takes place is a horror movie to itself. And You know you'll never look at a chainsaw the same way again. I thus highly recommand this film, just don't say I didn't warn you: get ready for some really nasty images.

--Tom Keogh

dennis hopper is F****ing crazy.......2007-06-12
this film is by far the worst in the "texas chainsaw massacre" franchise.
the leather face in this one is a pussy with emotions. the only good things about this film is 1. dennis hopper; f-en crazy in this one. hell bent on killing the rabid family of psychos. 2. the gore was great, very cheesy in parts but very cool. and reason number 3. the brother in this one is great very good actor, you may even reconize him from "house of 1000 corpses" or "devils rejects".
A must for any horror fans collection!
this is a good movie too.......2007-03-15
this movie is good too, this movie isn't scary at all. to tell you the truth.
chainsaw.......2007-02-06
its the reatest movie in the series i ever seen because you dont get the title in austria and germany i bought in the usa and i must say its great
This was a horrible movie.......2007-01-15

* Better budget.
* Better acting.
* More blood and gore.
* More graphic violence.

Product Description
The prequal to the 2003 version of 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' is set in 1969. On one last road trip before they're sent to serve in Vietnam, two brothers (Handley and Bomer) and their girlfriends (Baird and Brewster) get into an accident that calls their local sheriff (Ermey) to the scene. Thus begins a terrifying experience where the teens are taken to a secluded house of horrors, where a young, would-be killer is being nurtured.
