Kirsten Dunst stars as plucky teen niece to Steve Guttenberg in this 1997 telefilm that sets out to provide background for one of Disney/MGM Studios' popular thrill-rides, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Guttenberg plays Buzzy, a down-on-his-luck former journalist relegated to concocting stories for a Weekly World News-inspired tabloid. When an elderly woman approaches Buzzy with a compelling ghost story, he's persuaded to investigate. Dunst is Anna, who joins Buzzy in his search to find out the truth about the mysterious 1939 disappearance of five people--including a Shirley Temple-like child star--at the eerily abandoned Hollywood Tower Hotel. There are some scary segments, which may truly frighten sensitive younger viewers. Still, for older kids and adult viewers, Dunst's presence and a fairly fun story makes this an engaging film. A pleasant surprise.......2007-03-08
I liked this movie. I wasn't expecting much so maybe that helped me suspend reality long enough to enjoy what I was watching. The plot is simple without being simplistic and the ghosts are not too terrifying for younger children (and me either ha ha).
The big thing for me is that the characters were well done and related to each other and that there actually were motivations for their actions. This is a 3 star plot with a 4 star result because of the acting and directing.
Terror Towers.......2007-01-17
A great Sunday Afternoon film which is fast moving with twists and a happy ending, but in this case happy endings!
Tower of Terror.......2007-01-12
We recently visited Disney World and went on the Tower of Terror so our child just had to have this movie. So we couldn't find it in local stores so I orded it and it took only about 3 business days of non stop "has it arrived yet?" but we got it in perfect shape. Ordered on a Thursday and got it on a Monday...not bad shipping time.
Tower of Terror.......2007-01-09
This is a wonderful movie for children. It has a great deal of suspense without going over the line with violence and gore. The child who has this movie watches it over and over.
Awesome!!!!!.......2006-07-12

Director Ulli Lommell graduated from Rainer Werner Fassbinder's stock company to become a director in his own right, and his horror films have garnered something of a cult following. The Boogie Man, a slice of post-Halloween slasher gore, follows the legacy of a murder perpetrated by a young boy on his mother's sadistic lover. Decades later, the boy is mute, his sister haunted by memories of the fateful night, and the murdered man's evil spirit escapes from a shattered mirror to begin a reign of slaughter. Lommell's direction is plodding and sloppy and his writing stilted (it's not helped at all by his stiff cast), but he provides the gruesome payoffs: scissors in the neck, a skewer through the back of the head, a pitchfork through a torso. The Devonsville Terror again charts the legacy of evil, this time in a family cursed to repeat the vile acts of their witch-hunting ancestors. When three independent women move to a small Massachusetts town, the chauvinist family decides to put them in their place, but could one of them actually be the reincarnation of a vengeful victim? Lommell exhibits none of his mentor's subtlety or grace, but he manages to create a genuinely eerie and off-putting mood between scenes of violent and sadistic murders and casts two familiar horror icons in supporting roles (John Carradine in The Boogie Man and Donald Pleasance in The Devonsville Terror). While these flourishes may appeal to die-hard horror fans, others will prefer to stick with the classics. --Sean Axmaker

A great comedy.......2006-10-04
This movie had me rolling on the floor laughing at how bad it was (Boogeyman). The story seems like it was made up by a 10 year old kid and the acting seems like it was directed by a 10 year old kid. A haunted mirror?!?! Sorry that would never put chills down my spine no matter how the story is spun. In one scene some members of the family are walking through a barn in the middle of the night and see some of their relatives dead and hung. What do they do? scream? run? cry? nope they move deeper in the barn without even pausing. HORRIBLE MOVIE!
This Side Yes, This Side No...........2005-08-02
I watched this DVD because I wanted to see Boogey Man. When I saw that Devonsville Terror was on the same DVD I was like whatever. Well, to my surprise Devonsville Terror was much better than Boogey Man.
Boogey Man gets 1 star if any. Actually started out OK, but the whole possesed mirror was lame and ruined the movie. Also, the death scene of the teenagers in the car was stupid. A guy has a knife go through the back of his head and is sticking out of his mouth like 2 inches. That two inches of knife goes into his girlfriend's mouth and kills her? Made it look like a kiss. Very lame.
The Devonsville Terror I'd give 2 1/2 to 3 stars. Has an interesting story about witch trials and how they come back to haunt the townspeople 300 years later. Definitely some slowness in between, but I always like Donald Pleasence flicks for some reason. He makes them more entertaining. Some good gore in the end. Now I know where Raiders of the Lost Ark got the idea for melting faces - yuck!
Boogeyman-not very good...Devonsville-sucks........2005-05-07
The double feature of "The Boogeyman"/"The Devonsville Terror" aren't very good horror movies. "The Boogeyman" is a Halloween ripoff to a certain degree although there is some variation for sure...as a whole, this movie isn't terrible, but the mirror theme that the movie is essentially based on was pretty stupid in my opinion. The Boogeyman is a ghost confined to a mirror until it is broken and then people start dying at the hands of this Boogeyman...this movie is very slow to develop and the acting is poor.
As for the movie called "The Devonsville Terror", it sucks! It starts with three witches killed during the Inquisition. These three witches come back to get revenge from the descendants of their murderers. Again, the movie is slow to develop and boring. I don't recommend this DVD to anyone...I'm thoroughly disappointed.
Get this for "The Boogeyman" (1981).......2004-12-17
I must admit that this is a pretty decent Double Feature, considering the fact that both films are low budget goodness! I watched both movies one night, but found myself enjoying "The Boogeyman" the most. While "Devonsville Terror" (1983) is a fairly decent horror movie (Indeed, who can ever forget the scary scenary involving wheels in the beginning?), I found it to be a little too educational and predictable at times with the witch category. However, I found 'Boogeyman' to be a lot more original and the plot more interesting than that of 'Devonsville'. It is probably Ulli Lommel's best (& most INTENSE!) film he's ever created and the acting is superb for a horror flick! Sure, it's a little cheesy at times (Both movies are, but in a GOOD way!) but it's very enjoyable for those of you who are hardcore horror fans (e.g. myself)
Don't get me wrong, I liked 'Devonsville', but it wasn't as good as the first feature on this disk. I only wish that they could've added MORE extras rather than just giving us the T.V. spot for 'Boogeyman'. I don't think they're any commentaries on each film either, which would've also been nice. My last complaint is that the picture quality in 'Devonsville' is fair, but kind of poor even for the DVD transfer it was given. (You'll notice that some of the colors are grainy) I only wish that they could've cleaned it up a little more, but otherwise, it's okay. The 4 stars I give goes to 'Boogeyman', but I give 'Devonsville' 3. Two good movies at a very cheap price!
Watch it for the slasher badness.......2004-08-11
This is a lame ripoff of "Halloween" but horror buffs should still enjoy it for the trademark late 70s-early 80s awfulness in the horror genre.
