Editorial Review:
Amazon.com
Horror maestro Tom Holland (Fright Night) brought wit and devilish energy to this 1988 scarefest about a murderer (Brad Dourif) who wills his soul into an innocuous doll named Chucky, and reveals himself only to the toy's owner, a frightened little boy. Catherine Hicks plays the child's mother, and Chris Sarandon a detective; neither of them knows what to make of the kid's story. Monster-doll stories are always wonderfully surreal, and Child's Play is no exception. Holland oversees some finely tuned special effects that allow Chucky to express himself and do some damage--it is truly unnerving but somehow good, subversive fun. --Tom Keogh

Amazon.com essential video
This simply irresistible first feature from the Muppets has Kermit the frog going from the swamps to Hollywood to be a star. As he travels and picks up his usual friends (Miss Piggy, Fozzie the Bear), Doc Hopper (Charles Durning) is in pursuit, looking for Kermit to be the spokesman for his frog-leg cuisine. A loose rendition of The Wizard of Oz, the film incorporates the same cagey humor as their breakout syndicated TV series The Muppet Show. This is one of the few times that a human cast (notably Steve Martin, Orson Welles, and Carol Kane) are integrated seamlessly with nonhumans. Worth noting is Paul Williams's score, which includes the Oscar-nominated "The Rainbow Connection." Williams's music, much like Howard Ashman's work on The Little Mermaid and other Disney films, provides more than atmosphere; there's a degree of magic here. Williams did not work on the future Muppet films until A Muppet Christmas Carol. His contributions made these films the best of the Muppet series. --Doug Thomas

Jim Henson vaulted Kermit, the famous floppy-armed frog, and his Muppet pals to the big screen with this charming 1979 musical adventure. Like the TV show that inspired it, Henson and director James Frawley playfully acknowledge movie clichés and conventions and allow the characters to address the camera in asides, like a Hope and Crosby road film for the 1980s. The ambitious singing frog decides to leave his swamp and conquer Hollywood, gathering a group of friends along the way (Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, and more) and bumping into oodles of guest stars making tongue-in-cheek cameos (my favorite is the tip-of-the-hat appearance by Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy). Meanwhile, despicable fast-food king Charles Durning pursues Kermit, hoping to make him the spokesfrog for his Frogs-Legs restaurant franchise. Austin Pendleton costars as Durning's sad sack henchman while guest stars include James Coburn, Dom DeLuise, Madeleine Kahn, Steve Martin, Milton Berle, Bob Hope, Carol Kane, Cloris Leachman, Mel Brooks, Richard Pryor, Telly Savalas, Elliot Gould, Orson Welles, and Big Bird. Paul Williams penned the bouncy, song-filled score. You'll believe a frog can sing! --Sean Axmaker
Description
They're irreverent, irrepressible, and downright irresistible. They're the Muppets! -- starring in their first full-length movie. See how their meteoric rise to fame and fortune began: with a rainbow, a song . . . and a Frog. After a fateful meeting with a big-time talent agent, Kermit the Frog heads for Hollywood dreaming of showbiz. Along the way, Fozzie Bear, the Great Gonzo, and the dazzling Miss Piggy join him in hopes of becoming film stars too. But all bets are off when Kermit falls into the clutches of Doc Hopper (Charles Durning), a fast-food mogul seeking to promote his French-fried frog-leg franchise! Featuring Oscar(R)-nominated music (1980, Best Original Song "The Rainbow Connection," Best Original Score) and side-splitting appearances by some of the biggest names on the silver screen -- including Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Orson Welles, and more! --this fully restored and remastered 50th Anniversary Edition of THE MUPPET MOVIE is a critically acclaimed comedy classic your family will treasure for all time. Brings back fond memories.......2007-02-12
Ah, something my children and I can watch together and not drive me insane.
This is the original muppet movie from 1979. I remember seeing it in the theater as a child. My kids like the singing, but get bored with the dialouge. But they are young (18 mo. & 32 mo.), so I am not suprised. I enjoy seeing all the big stars and comedians who took bit parts in this movie.
The only thing I don't like...most kids films with music/singing will have a bonus feature of the music scenes. It's a nice way to see the kids' favorite parts and only takes a few minutes if they want "just one more" show, song, story, etc. This DVD doesn't contain a music scene bonus feature.
Definately worth the money if you are a child from the 70s raising children today.
First entire family enjoyable film........2006-07-17
The film which came out before I was even born! Is one that I enjoyed when I was growing up and also love to watch as an adult and will definitely share with my children one day! One day we'll find it, the rainbow connection that makes this film great for people of any age.
DVD NOT "censored", but "The Muppets Go Hollywood" SHOULD'VE BEEN INCLUDED!.......2006-07-16
Let's clear up some confusion here....the "grasshopper" comment was on the movie soundtrack ONLY. It was NOT in the film. If you listen to the song "I hope that something better comes along" from the soundtrack recording, MOST of the dialog exchange between Rowlf and Kermit prior to the beginning of the song, is DIFFERENT than the movie (not just the "grasshopper" line). The different dialog on the soundtrack was to help make sense of the scene in which the song takes place, for those who hadn't seen the film.
I have an old VHS tape of The Muppet Movie from 1984, and the "grasshopper" line isn't on that either. Nothing was censored for the DVD.
I agree that the Muppets' 1979 TV special "The Muppets Go Hollywood" (which promoted the film's release), SHOULD have been included on this DVD. I'm deducting one star for that ridiculous omission.
Best movie ever.......2006-04-24
This is only best movie ever made. I like all the Jim Hensons I've ever seen but those are nothing compared to this. I like the fact that Big Bird and Steve Martin were in this. It was funny, had oscar-winning rainbow connection and travels across the USA
A lot of people think Disney DVDs have few bonus features aren't very good ones. The only ones on here are Backstage Disney (which i dont watch) and pepe profiles. Pepe is so cool and I learned little known facts aboit kermit.
Muppets: Kermit, Fozzie, Big Bird, Dr. Teeth, Floyd, Zoot, Janice, Animal, Scooter, Gonzo, Camilla, Sweetums, Miss Piggy, Rowlf, Waldorf & Statler,Robin, Swedish Chef, Dr. Bunsen, Beaker, Crazy Harry, Lew Zealand and Sam

Review of so-so 50th anniversary DVD of great movie.......2006-04-16
I would have given 3 and 1/2 stars if I could.
I have to agree with the reviewers disappointed with the DVD. The Muppet Movie is such a wonderful movie. Funny, smart, literate, warm...every reason to give it great packaging.
This new edition, unfortunately not only doesn't contain significant new material (Kermit featurette unsatisfying), it robs us of stuff on the previous release!
In the early DVD release, we got James Frawley's test footage. Also, we could choose to run the movie in French with captions in French. Although the words didn't match exactly, it was a great way to boost learning the language, particularly conversational French. In this edition, we have the spoken language only. I recognize that not a lot of people will be disappointed by this, but maybe some will.
The lost material is not enough to keep me from buying The Muppet Movie, but it is enough to make me scan e-bay for the earlier, superior edition.

Great DVD for Babies.......2007-06-14
I love this DVD for one thing more than anything else...it got my son to saying "mommy":)) He was saying "mama" but after watching this DVD a couple times he started calling me mommy and never stopped. He's almost three now and he still watches this DVD from time to time. He knows all the songs and all the actions and in the car we're able to sing the songs because he has memorized them. It's a break from all the "character" shows out there for kids. This is a Classic!
Great video for interacting with your child.......2007-04-06
I am a working parent of a 2 year old toddler. Unfortunately, many times when I get home I really just want to relax and put my feet up - and not interact with my daughter. This video is fantastic for getting us both in the mood to enjoy each other and have a good time. Most videos for kids are not very interactive and fortunately this one is based on being involved in the activities. The songs are great and well known. My daughter LOVES this video and asks me almost every day to play it in the DVD player. I highly recommend this video for everyone, especially working parents trying to find new ways to have fun with their little ones.
Suggest you try Bright Bubs for your baby instead.......2007-03-12
i just watched mommy & me and if you have a baby i strongly recommend you try bright bubs DVDs instead. the bright bubs dvds are made for babies first year. it is a fun lively sessions of singing finger play massaging with mummies and babies . the babies in the dvds are all under one year , and the music is carefully selected and played for this age group. mommy and me songs are a bit noisy for my baby's fine and sensitive hearing
please go to the webiste [...] and read about their approach how to incorporate music in baby's development . most of the songs in the session are really short ( we all know our babies attention span ) , incorporating exercises , vestibular movements , tactile and auditory stimulation while siniging , explaining to you why and how every song can help baby's development.
i just cannot recommend them enough for very young babies . and no they are not similar to the mummy and me dvds
also the bright bubs sessions are done in a house in the living room or in a backyard in a very natural environment , so baby is not too distracted and overstimulated by the too many artificial decoration and drawings like in mommy and me sessions , all baby will see is other babies with their mummies in their house like him singing and dancing , music is soft respectful to baby's refined senses .
i don't mean to say this dvd is not good , but i feel it is too loud and too crowded for babies , maybe it is more suitable for preschoolers .
i just felt sorry for that baby among the group trying to follow up on the wheel on the bus song .the same song could be sang in a more apropriate and respectful way for younger babies senses.
Fun time with your baby!.......2007-01-16
Love the music and so does my 22 month old!! She loves dancing and clapping but most of all I think she loves that I'm with her doing it!!
She loved it.......2007-01-04
I have a soon to be three year old at home and as soon as I received the dvd and we started to watch it, she got up and was dancing the whole time, we also replayed the video about 3 times. She quickly learned the songs, and its really sweet because they show the children hugging their moms and she'll come up to me and give me a big as well.

Surf's up as the Curious Buddies head to the beach for seaside exploration and discovery in this 30-minute Nick Jr. program combining live action footage, animated games, and kid-friendly music. From swimming and sandcastles to sailboats and surfboards, the sea is an engaging setting for toddlers to learn about the natural world around them. In one scene, kids collect seashells in sand buckets before an on-screen game invites viewers to sort ocean objects into similar groups. In another sequence, schools of tropical fish swim in tidepools, followed by footage of squealing children jumping in waves. An upbeat dance with the Curious Buddies teaches the meaning of "stop" and "go"; later, youngsters are challenged with simple games to develop reasoning skills of comparison, counting, and sequencing. As the sun sets over the sea, viewers will hear one last song about beach walks while watching parents and children stroll the shore and savor some tender memories. (Ages 18 months to 4 years) --Lynn Gibson

Can't live without.......2007-01-05
MY SON ADORES Curious Buddies. Ever since he was 3 months... He is a year old now and I have to replace the dvds because we play them so much
We have spent money on tons of dvds and Curious buddies are the winners in our house
My Triplets LOVE This!.......2006-12-28
Curious buddies is the best. Fun and learning compared to no others!
Excellent Series.......2006-06-26
The whole range of Curious Buddies DVDs are excellent. They are educational focusing on simple values, tasks, and family activities. They show children interacting with one another in a positive way which is great for socialization skills....and they're fun (even for the parents!)
You have to try these!.......2006-03-11
These "Curious Buddies" by Nick Jr., are not only adorable, but the show is absolutely educational! I cannot stress how much my son has learned from watching them. They make him laugh and I know that he is learning at the same time he is having fun!And they are inexpensive compared to all the other baby/toddler dvd's out there. Give them a try. They are totally worth it!
Nick Jr. Baby Curious Buddies-Exploring the beach.......2006-01-09
My daughter first clued me in to this extremely cute series of DVDs/VHS. She found out about them from a young male retailer at a very large electronics chain. The puppets are a bit silly but the toddlers LOVE them! The content of each of the series is good. From 12 months to 2 1/2 yrs seems to be the most popular obcessive "watching" time (I have two two year old Grandsons separated by 5 weeks) and they ask for and will watch "buddies" in loo of any other video. It has only been in the last year that my five year old Grandson stopped asking to watch them. Cute songs, instuctive and keeps their attention--incase you need to do something else--like shower! My daughter and daughter-in-law,each have a full set and I have two--one for each house. You won't regret this purchase!

Customer Reviews:
A good one.......2006-08-16
This is one of about 6 Teletubbies DVDs we own and is one of the best. The scenes with the Tubbies are more interesting than some of the ones in our other videos, and include a scene with Dipsy watching what's going on in Tubbyland, a scene with Tubby custard bubbles, and more. The scenes with the kids are also good, and there is a special feature that my 20 mo. old son also likes, where the Tubbies play on a seesaw. This DVD, along with "All Together Teletubbies" and "Look" are my son's favorites. He also likes "Favorite Things" but I think that's only available on VHS.
Lots of Fun!.......2006-08-07
My 19 month old LOVES the Teletubbies. This video is tons of fun.

--Tom Keogh

Hi i'm chucky wanna play?.......2007-05-18
Man this was more funnier than so called scary horror creepy or what ever you would call it but I call it funny and extremely corny but good. The notorious lakeshore strangler charles lee ray has been gunned down almost ready to die and has to find a temporary replacement body so he will not die which is chucky (brad dourif) the friendly good guy doll who is every childs friend to the end but when chucky reveals to the child andy barkley that he's alive andy must make a run from the hospital to his home and lock the doors and arm himself to defeat chucky and protect his soul from chucky who want's out of the body and andy's mom saves him from getting his soul almost taken away. Actually I own an 8 plush chucky doll chucky rules.
The doll doesn't look scary but its MERCILESS personality makes up for that and then some.......2007-05-05
This is the movie that spawned 4 sequels (all inferior) and gave rise to one of the most well known and feared characters in horror cinema: "Chucky the killer doll."
To save himself from death, a man puts his soul into a doll because "nobody would be able to hurt" him but, more than that, he had no other choice. The doll is then bought by a mother as a birthday gift to her 6 year old son. Over the next couple of days the reincarnated Chucky is determined to settle old scores with the people who killed him. Spooky enough for you?
Alright, the doll isn't THAT scary-looking. But I just love its attitude of killing without mercy and the fact that the doll obviously enjoys killing people. I wasn't scared so much as thrilled that the doll loves doing what it does and makes an art of it and, I think deliberately, tries to be creative in how it kills people. This doll also has what has got to be THE most distinctive and recognizable laugh of any major horror figure.
It's all good fun except for one thing: The reason why I didn't give five stars is the kid (Andy) sucks at acting. I know he's just a kid but there are millions of kids out there and thousands of them could do a better job. How this kid said his lines didn't 'feel' right half the time.
One last thing: Chucky is not, in my opinion, the scariest doll in horror films. If you want to get something that involves a truly scary doll and makes Chucky look nice you should see the Trilogy of Terror. Having said that, I think that Chucky is, if not the scariest, arguably the most entertaining. It's a great movie to watch on a Friday night with a couple of friends. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you at least rent it.
Good beginning.......2007-01-10
This is the one that started the series off. The perfect accompaniment would be the "Chucky collection" which contains 2-5. Saves you from purchasing them seperately. A must have if you are a fan of the films
CHILD'S PLAY.......2006-11-28
Usually the first movie it's allways the best one,I like this one because it was more serious than the others that came after,I liked the first three movies but the the original is my favorite!
As any other First Part.......2006-11-05
Its a good horror movie alhtough you wont find so many fun parts as the part 3, 4th or 5th.

Mommy & Me.......2007-03-14
This DVD is almost the same thing as the other mommy and me.
Same songs and some actors with few changes...But it is good as
It was the other one.
#1 movie for my son!.......2006-03-15
My 18mo old absolutely loves the mommy and me dvd's that are out. Besides the wiggles, this is the only thing he will watch. Just from watching this dvd he learns how to do certain things such as jumping, shaking hands, and playing peekaboo! More videos like this should be out on the market.
Otra vez estaba muy triste con el parte en español. English review below on mainly the Spanish part from someone bilingual........2006-02-03
For people who think that those who speak Spanish can sing along with the words they are wrong. The Spanish words are all in a different form of future etc. in the subtitles verses the verbal form whether in songs or spoken. It is like they paid two different people to translate the same video. One for the verbal and the other for the lyrics, and then stuck them together without checking that they are the same. Same meaning is different than same words especially if you are trying to sing along. I don't understand why anyone would allow their product to be marketed in this way. In English the words come across in karaoke style with the word they are on highlighted. I assumed that the subtitles would be the same with maybe the option of the highlighted word taken away, which is NOT the case.
My daughter loves these CD's!.......2005-11-23
My daughter loves both the first Mommy & Me and Mommy & Me More. We can't go through a day without watching one of them. The segments in between are a bit goofy, but the songs are fun and it gets my girl up and moving. When I first tried these on her around 14 months, she could care less, but now at 2 years, she loves them!
More than worth it.......2005-10-23
I love these video and I'm glad I bought the other one too. My children don't get tired of watching it. I've spend more money on other viedos and they don't like it as much as this one. They're fun and they learn a lot form it.

Shirley Temple shines as a young radio entertainer in this 1938 Darryl Zanuck film inspired by Kate Wiggin's classic novel. In a role perfectly suited to her song and dance talents, Temple plays the "very self-reliant" Rebecca Winstead, a precocious pixie who wins the audition to become Crackling Grain Flakes "Little Miss America" for a new radio broadcast. Fame is fleeting, however, when she moves to Sunnybrook Farm to live with Aunt Miranda (Helen Westley), an overbearing curmudgeon who absolutely forbids any entanglements in show business. Since the show must go on, it will require some slapstick tomfoolery and secretive shenanigans that turn an otherwise straightforward story into an uproarious cat-and-mouse comedy. Sunnybrook Farm is reminiscent of Temple's earlier Poor Little Rich Girl (1936), as it reunites her with co-stars Jack Haley and Gloria Stuart. The soundtrack includes Temple's legendary songs, "An Old Straw Hat," "On the Good Ship Lollipop," and "Animal Crackers in My Soup," ending with a grandiose military dance number, "The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers," performed by Temple and renowned tap-dancer Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. The DVD offers two viewing options: a remastered colorized version, or the original (restored) black and white. (All ages) --Lynn Gibson
Description
When orphan Rebecca (Temple) auditions for a radio show and doesn't get the job, her stepfather (William Demarest) takes her to live with her Aunt Miranda (Helen Westly), owner of Sunnybrook Farm. But the show's talent agent (Randolph Scott) was all set To hire Rebecca and begins to search frantically for the missing youngster - unaware the pint-sized radio star lives right next door!
Customer Reviews:
charming Temple vehicle.......2007-05-04
Despite it's title, REBECCA OF SUNNYBROOK FARM is not a re-telling of the classic Kate Douglas Wiggin story. This is one of the most charming films that Shirley Temple starred in, and I enjoy revisting it often.
Temple plays Rebecca Winstead, a young radio singer who is discovered by talent scout Tony Kent (Randolph Scott). There's only one hitch: Rebecca's frosty Aunt Miranda (Helen Westley) who isn't about to have her niece go into showbusiness. You can pretty much guess the rest...
This little gem runs at a brisk pace and is filled with warmth and humour. Temple gets to share the screen with some of her regular cohorts (Helen Westley, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, Jack Haley, Gloria Stuart and Randolph Scott).
The musical score includes such delights as "An Old Straw Hat", "Happy Endings", "Come and Get Your Happiness", and "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers". Temple also gets to sing a medley of her greatest hits.
The cast also features Phyllis Brooks, Slim Summerville, Ruth Gillette, William Demarest, and Dixie Dunbar. Look out for a young Mary McCarty, playing Florabelle, the singer with "mike-fright" in the auditions scene.
Be optimistic and smile! Oh, how Shirley could sing and dance without even trying..........2007-05-04
Shirley Temple earned great fame as a child actress in Hollywood; and this movie shows us why. Shirley Temple sings and dances her way through many numbers, including "An Old Straw Hat" and an olio of her classic melodies including "Animal Crackers In My Soup" and "On The Good Ship Lollipop." Temple shines like no other child star ever did; and we will have to wait a very long time to see another quite like her.
Rebecca Of Sunnybrook Farm stars Temple as a young child named Rebecca Winstead who has incredible talents; she even wins a radio gig as "Little Miss America" just based on her being herself when she sings. Of course, even a musical needs something of a plot; therefore there's a misunderstanding and Shirley and her stepfather (William Demarest) go away thinking they lost the talent contest. Her stepfather takes her to Sunnybrook Farm which is run by her crusty old aunt Miranda (Helen Westley). Miranda agrees to take care of Rebecca on the condition that the stepfather never returns. Fortunately, though, instead of being sad about her very different new environment, Rebecca is an upbeat, optimistic kid who takes to the farm rather well.
Things begin to snowball much faster when it turns out that just by pure coincidence (oh, sure) the man who ran the talent contest lives just next door to her Aunt Miranda's home. At this point in the film many questions arise: Will he finally recognize that Shirley is the girl who won the talent contest? Even if Shirley is recognized, will her Aunt Miranda let them put her on the radio? And what happens when her stepfather ultimately hears of all this fuss going on? No spoilers here, folks; you'll have to watch the movie to find out! There are some funny moments using slapstick, too.
The DVD offers us the motion picture in both black and white as well as color. This movie was originally filmed in black and white and then colorized. The DVD lacks extras except for some clips from Heidi and Little Miss Broadway.
The cinematography shines with the characters being filmed very artistically within the confines of the screen and the choreography of the dance numbers is terrific. The finale, "The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers," showcases Shirley Temple and Bill Robinson dancing wonderfully and this will thrill you!
Overall, I highly recommend this for Shirley Temple fans; and people who want to watch classic movies with their children will enjoy this film, too.
Enjoy! Great job, everyone!!!
The Best of Shirley.......2007-03-21
Of all the Shirley Temple movies I have watched, this showcases her talet the best. Sweet storyline for "America" Littlest Sweetheart."
Shirley Charms.......2007-03-11
Shirley Temple's movie career was in its peak years when she made this movie that capitalizes on her best characteristics. Though she says she is eight years old in the movie and she even looks like she could be eight, in reality she was about ten years old. Shirley was a veteran actress who was cute and charming with little effort.
This movie primarily shares the title of the book with the same name. Beyond the title, the movie is quite different from the book. Rebecca Winstead (Temple) is the ward of her stepfather, Uncle Harry Kipper (William Demarest, a veteran actor who would later be a regular on "My Three Sons"). Unfortunately, Uncle Harry has issues with keeping a regular job. Good things appear to be happening when Shirley auditions and gets a job with Tony Kent (the late great Randolph Scott) as Little Miss America. Because of a misunderstanding, Rebecca and Uncle Harry left the studio and disappeared, putting Tony Kent into serious trouble with his biggest sponsor.
Uncle Harry takes Rebecca to her Aunt Miranda (Helen Westley, who appeared in several other Shirley Temple movies) and dumps Rebecca. Rebecca meets her cousin Gwen Warren (Gloria Stuart, who decades later would appear in one of her most memorable roles as elderly Rose in the blockbuster "Titanic") and Aloysius (Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, in his third appearance in a Shirley Temple film). As Rebecca tells us many times in the movie, she is self reliant and she manages to charm everyone she contacts, even grumpy Aunt Miranda.
Rebecca accidentally encounters Tony Kent, who is still looking for her. It turns out that Tony has a house right next to Aunt Miranda's house. Unfortunately, Aunt Miranda is against Rebecca appearing in a radio broadcast and Rebecca, Gwen and several others have to go to great lengths to get Rebecca out of Aunt Miranda's house and into Tony's house for her first radio broadcast.
The radio broadcast is successful, but too successful because Uncle Harry is listening and decides that he wants Rebecca, or at least her money. We also learn that Uncle Harry has a new wife, whose only desire is money. Things become a little tearful when Uncle Harry shows up with a lawyer and court papers that prove that Uncle Harry is Rebecca's legal guardian.
Will Rebecca escape Uncle Harry's clutches? Will Gwen and Tony end up happy? What about perpetually grumpy Aunt Miranda? Will she see happiness? Many answers await you!
I enjoyed this movie. I thought the movie had a good balance of comedy and pathos, and I thought the movie had good pacing. However, I know that younger audiences, who are accustomed to faster-paced movies and have different standards for comedy, may fail to find this movie funny or interesting. You may want to keep the differences in era in mind if you are buying this movie for a younger person who is unfamiliar with Shirley Temple.
Shirley Temple is perfectly charming in this movie. She sings. She dances with Bill Robinson, who was a phenomenal dancer. Shirley is cute and charming and even though portions of this movie seem contrived and unbelievable, it is easy to ignore the plot problems because of Shirley. Shirley Temple fans will enjoy this movie, as well as Randolph Scott fans and Gloria Stuart fans. I strongly recommend this movie as one to watch if you are just starting to appreciate Shirley Temple.
Enjoy!

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful movie.......2006-12-28
Although this movie departs greatly from the original fairy tale, it is still worth purchasing. It is well made, the acting is superb, with Isabella Rosselini reminiscent of her wonderful mother Ingrid Bergman. I taped this for my daughter on VHS many years ago and she watched it so much! It is very well done and no one who buys it will be disappointed. It would be intense for very young children, however.
To be perfectly honest..........2005-10-04
I am 15 years old and I've only seen this movie 2...3...4...times? Something like that. We have a crumby tape recording of 4 songs of the movie. It doesn't matter to me how crumby the recording is; I've listened to it religiously for years. That's how good the songs are.
It has been noted here that "Never Talk to Strangers" is a favorite song of many. It's my favortie as well. It's absolutely incredible how the werewolf is developing his own personality. He is warning the girl, quite literally, of himself. He seems exasperated when she doesn't listen - of course the carefree Red Riding Hood doesn't take anything anyone says seriously. I have wondered whether he is honestly hoping in a hidden heart (unlike his truly heartless master) that the girl will be able to stay away from him, or only slyly winning her trust. That's only a tiny, twisted piece of how great the plot is.
All in all, it's very true what the other reviewers have said - this is nothing like the original story we all know. It's better. It's been expanded into a world of lifelike characters, the simple life of the harvest (Green in the Blue), Corrupt politics (Red's uncle, naturally), war (her father was fighting)... and everything else you could hope for in a fairy story. A wonderful tale to grow up on. I know that from experience.
One last thing I note, is that it does not portray the wild wolf, a natural animal quite as badly as the old tales because it is a summoned werewolf, not a natural wolf, who does the evil. This is a winning point in my book since I'm a majorly pro-wolf person. :)
Surprisingly bad.......2004-12-31
I bought this because it is made by Cannon Movie Tales and I love "Puss in Boots", which they also made. Because "Puss in Boots" was so good, I thought this would be, too. Alas, I was disappointed. "Red Riding Hood" has almost no relation to the story we are all familiar with. The plot in the actual fairytale is more of a parenthetical remark than the main story line in this movie. Add to this that the acting was rather painful and the special effects were anything but special and you are left with 1 star. The one thing it had going for it was that it was perfectly clean and not very scary for youngsters. Since small children are easier to please in the cinematic area than adults, perhaps they would still enjoy this adaptation to "Little Red Riding Hood".
GREAT .......2004-12-30
THIS IS A GREAT MOVIE AND ITS AWSOME THAT IT IS FINALLY ON DVD BUT WHEN ARE THE REST OF THE CANNON MOVIE TALES GONNA BE OUT ON DVD?
A Captivating Addition to your Fairy Tale Film Collection!.......2004-05-28
We all know the story of Red Riding Hood. The girl who takes goodies to her grandmother and forgets she's not suppossed to speak to strangers ,right? Well, I am pleased to say that this film is the best adaptation of Red Riding Hood on film but it also delivers lots of wonderful surprises. The last film in the wonderful Cannon Movie Tale series is really one of the best in the collection. Amelia Shankley, Isabella Rosselini and Craig T. Nelson give captivating performances and the film is also very well directed. This film is not boring, it is actually very powerful. However, this is not a film for the very young ones as I found myself flinching at parts and somewhat taken aback by some events that happen in the film. The songs and dance sequences are wonderful. It's great that the original trailer is included with the DVD. The picture is crystal clear and the sound is also on-par. I highly recommend this film, as it delivers lots of surprises and although it is the story of Red Riding Hood that we all know and love, there is alot of original ideas that everyone will be delighted to see!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

When children help around the house, it fosters confidence, resourcefulness, and independence--the theme of this 30-minute Nick Jr. Baby program. Music and narration accompany live-action footage of youngsters engaged in worthy tasks, while a handful of pastel-colored animal puppets cheer them on. Short vignettes, appropriate for the brief attention span of wee ones, depict familiar home responsibilities. In one, a girl puts away her toys; in another, a boy washes fruit for a salad. Kids wash the car, sweep the floor, bring in the newspaper, and set the table--visibly satisfied with their accomplishments. Rather than providing instructional detail on various chores, the film's goal is to empower kids to try their hand around the house, and remind parents to let them do so. Animated games enhance a child's skills in matching, sorting, and sequencing; and the curious buddies--an elephant, cat, and so forth--will keep everyone giggling. (Ages 2 to 4) --Lynn Gibson

Customer Reviews:
Great Fun!.......2007-05-17
This was upbeat and fun for my 18 month old. She really liked it, but seemed to lose interest before the end. I've been letting her watch it during quiet time in the afternoon recently and now she watches the entire video and asks to watch it again. I've grown to like it more now than I did when I first previewed it and it's a bonus that she also seems more interested in it now too!
Not Too Pleasing.......2007-03-09
I was interested in buying the series because my daughter was dancing to a commercial but once i purchased the dvd, my daughter wasn't too attntive to it. Her interest lasted no more than a week, so it was a waste of money.
Captivating.......2007-01-06
My 1 1/2 year old daughter will watch this while I get dishes washed or dinner ready. It's cute and teaches her good things, and she loves the music.
My Triplets LOVE This!.......2006-12-28
Great fun and learning. Can't compare with anything else out there!
teaching helping for autism.......2006-11-03
My child has autism and has learned from watching videos. He enjoys this show and it encourages self-esteem and competence. He enjoys watching the children and the puppets. The songs and sentences are simple and it's easy to learn the lyrics.

Adults have these same needs.......2005-09-19
I used this DVD with college students learning about human development. Using experts in the field, such as Brazelton and trained teachers working directly with children in an inner city day care center, this DVD gives specific examples of what helps and what hinders healthy development. My only reservation about the content was the implication of dire consequences if a child did not receive these opportunities at a given age. Adults have similar needs and it is never too late to heal and learn the value of self esteem, music, play, care, touch, etc. That said, care givers of young children will benefit from the ideas presented in this well-scripted and interesting DVD.
