"Do ya wanna party?" challenges the soundtrack to this freaky and funny reworking of George Romero's Night of the Living Dead. Paced to the beat of a pounding rock score, this comic flesh feast delivers both laughs and outlandish gore. No longer lumbering, moaning creatures, these lithe, feral, and cunning undead claw their way out of the cemetery and into the skulls of a human smorgasbord. They even master the art of home delivery: "Send more cops," croaks a corpse into a patrol car radio. Director Dan O'Bannon even takes pains to explain their motivation between the tributes to the granddaddy of zombie horrors ("Well, it worked in the movie!" screams James Karen when a pickax to the skull hardly phases a lively cadaver). Not that it really matters amid the gore and gallows humor, but it does add a kick to the cynically sinister climax. --Sean Axmaker

BRAAAAIIIIINS!!!!!!.......2007-07-03
Oh my lord, I watch this movie once a week. It's so bad!!!!! I am so in love though. I love the cheese factor, it is by far my favorite 80's horror movie. The make-up is so weak, but there's 3 awesome looking zombies in it. You'll laugh a lot, I promise. The acting is just as horrible as the zombie make-up. The special effects will make your bladder bust from laughing so hard. Yay, I think I'll go watch it now.
Classic funny scary movie.......2007-06-27
You can nearly anticipate everything happening in this movie, but its still a good one to see. The makeup and effects are no where near as good as they are today, but still this is one worth watching.
Great.......2007-06-17
This is definitely among the best five horror films made in the 80's. It isn't really the best at anything: there are certainly movies with more gore, more scares, more comedy, even more nudity. But this film pulls everything together very well, has ample gore, scares, etc., and most importantly produces a very good atmosphere for everything to happen in. From beginning to end, the atmosphere and sets of this movie are great for the horror genre, and the tension keeps building throughout the movie. (though Tarman--played by Allan Trautman--was certainly a very high point in the middle).
I never really bought Matthews and Randolph (Freddy and Tina) as people that would hang out with punk-loving... well... punks. But apart from that small issue, the characters are great. Gulager, Calfa, and Karen, (Burt, Ernie, Frank) all give mature, straight performances, which provides a great foundation for the horror elements to be built on. The other actors also fill their rules well--not that there are deep character explorations here, but the characters are certainly good for a horror flick. Quigley and Venturini (Trash and Suicide) in particular come across well, though I think the whole cast holds it own well enough. Maybe two exceptions would be Terry (the Colonel) and his wife, whose performances I thought were lacking, though they were both very short.
This film had a lot of memorable lines, and a lot of memorable gags, as well. The split dog, the pickaxe to the back of the head, the captured female zombie, the request for more paramedics... lots of stuff here that is not just good, but also memorable. O'Bannon also enjoyed cramming scenes with all sorts of stuff in the background, to make the scenes at once more believable and more interesting. Some of the jokes in the film are also sort of comical, like having two friends named Burt and Ernie in a horror film (and one is a mortician).
Definitely a movie that any horror fan should see. And even if you don't really like horror films, you still might want to give it a shot.
DVD transfer isn't that accurate.......2007-06-15
Now the movie itself deserves 5 stars and maybe more. But the dvd transfer is disappointing for those who know this movie like the back of their hand. I saw this movie at least 300 times in my life. And as soon as I watched this on dvd I noticed some differences in the soundtrack. Some songs were cut short or they played late. And a couple of the voices for the zombies were straight up changed. Now its impossible to list the changes without blowing the movie experiance for those who never seen this. So I won't touch it. If you never seen this before, then you won't notice anything and this could either be the best zombie movie you ever seen, or the worst.
Now for the review of the movie itself. This takes place in the 80's and you'll notice it quick. A company accidently got a shipment of containers consisiting of dead bodies and chemicals. Two workers accidently break one of the canisters and all he11 breaks loose. A small little graveyard party for a few teenagers turns into a nightmare when they find themselves running from the living dead. The movie has some gory parts, but it can be so damn funny at the sametime.
This is my favorite zombie movie. It combines comedy, edge of the seat thrills, very intense spots and a good soundtrack. If you never seen this before, I highly recommend buying this. For those who have seen it. Even though a couple of voices and songs are altered. I still enjoy this movie and I just take it with a grain of salt. Hopefully a true remastered version gets put out.
"I know you're here, I can smell your brains". LMFAO!.......2007-06-07
A half-dog, a totally nude woman, funky 80s music, and brain-eating zombies fresh from the graveyard...this movie is AWESOME!
The plot of the movie is no where near believable. Apparently, the original Night of the Living Dead really happened and the government covered it up. Ludicrous as that might sound, I don't think the movie would deny or, for that matter, be ashamed at how silly the plot is. If anything, it's proud of it.
So I'm not going to waste my time explaining the plot. Just know that virtually the whole movie takes place near a graveyard. And it involves a group of teenage kids who, while waiting for their friend who works at a near-by mortuary connected to the government coverup, decide to party at the graveyard. What could possibly go wrong?
Despite its predictability, this movie absolutely works because the people who made it seemed like they had a fun time making it. And that's what really counts.
This is a perfect horror flick to watch on a rainy Friday night with a couple of friends.

Curious kids open a barrel of green gas linked to a mysterious military experiment, and soon a tenebrous green cloud of fog is making its way through the creepy town cemetery. Knowing exactly where this is headed is, of course, part of the fun in this tongue-in-cheek zombie sequel. Maybe it's not as fresh as its successful predecessor, but all of the key zombie ingredients are still well preserved in this second installment: ravenous "undead" in search of human brains, severed limbs with a life of their own, and lots and lots of shrieking! Taking a hackneyed premise that is a close retelling of part I, director Ken Wiederhorn (Freddy's Nightmares, Shock Waves) rejuvenates the genre with sporadic genuine scares, lots of plain old silliness, and some literally eye-popping special effects. Followed up a few years later with the equally enjoyable Return of the Living Dead Part III, this is a fun franchise that reminds you of what '80s horror was all about: bad synth music, and perms. --Matt Wold

A great, silly zombie journey..........2007-05-25
I actually like "Return of the Living Dead: Part II" better than the first. Though that could be considered blasphemous, this movie appealed more to me in my youth over the first, which I have finally come to accept as an outstanding zombie movie...
This edition features two of the same actors from the first in very similar buddy roles. The cast is pretty good, and the young boy lead is a strong performer for his age.
The movie is filled with zombie style laughs, including a cemetary rising scene that is super cool, but filled with cheesy laughs...
A must see in my opinion...
Kick & Awesome.......2007-05-12
The dvd came quickly...and came in better condition than i thought it would...would definitly do business again!!
Dissapointing.......2007-01-19
I'm a big fan of zombie movies, and the first return of the living dead was a very good zombie movie. This one, however, fails to scare nor hold your attention, and tries harder in my opinion to be funny instead of scary. The black humor is pathetic, espechialy compared to the first one. Had its interesting moments, but the movie as a whole was definitly below average.
I Want Your Brain!.......2006-10-13
This is not a George A. Romero project.
Directed and written by Ken Wiederman. Film contains profane language, gross bloody effects.
Thom Matthews returns as a different character, "Joey", James Karen returns as a different character, "Ed", Jonathan Terry returns as "Glover", Allan Trautman returns as "Tarman". Brian Peck returns as 5 different zombies, "Pussface", "Thriller", "Jaw", "Eye-Pop" and the zombie on the car roof.
A truck that is traveling across a bridge is carrying pressurized cases that contain cadavers. One case falls off the truck and ends up in the water. A group of kids find the case and triggers the gas inside that spreads across the cemetary. The living dead return.
Also in the cast: Thor van Lingen, Dana Ashbrook, Mitch Pileggi.
DVD only contains audio commentary and theatrical trailer.
A good follow follow-up to the original ROTLD, but doesn't bring anything new.......2006-08-16
1988 saw the release of Return of the Living Dead Part II. This film is a sort of sequel/reboot of the first film in that the story and even some of the characters bare too much of a similarity to the original film. Ken Weiderhorn both writes and directs this "sequel" and it shows. The film reuses alot of what made the first film a cult-classic amongst horror fans. Weiderhorn seems to be of the philosophy that if something ain't broke them don't fix it. What this does is make the film feel like a deja vu, and maybe that was his intent since two of the main characters in the film say pretty much the same thing. Despite all this the film itself is pretty good and stays true to the original, albeit with abit more humor and better effects work.
Reprising similar roles they had in the first film are James Karen as Ed and Thom Mathews as Joey. Both work as in the post-burial industry and moonlight stealing valuables from the privates crypts and mausoleum in the cemetary they're working in. Their characters act and almost have similar lines from Karen and Mathews' characters of Frank and Freddy in the first film. Karen as Ed goes over-the-top once the 2-4-5 Trioxin gas is let loose and the dead bodies in the cemetary begin to come back to life seeking live brains. It's these two characters who really keep the film from spiralling down to awful status. Even though their characters are similar to the original film, Karen and Mathews still bring a dose of great comedic timing and horror to the situation.
This time around the town has been safely evacuated by the military except for a few people who lived on the newly-built suburban housing area in the outskirts. It's these survivors who must try and find a way to defeat the zombies and at the same time convince the military blockading the town that they're not infected. There's more action and comedy in this sequel. I think the comedy part of the film got way too much attention, but as I said earlier, Weiderhorn seems to think that if it worked in the original then it should work with more in this film. The effects work looks abit better and probably due to an increase in the budget.
In the end, Return of the Living Dead Part II never bring anything new to the original its following-up and pretty much reuses the same characters and situations. Weiderhorn does this to good effect and the finished product is an entertaining enough horror-comedy. Who knows how this sequel would've turned out if Russo had written it and O'Bannon back directing.

Customer Reviews:
To all you "Movie Critics" on here..........2007-06-19
Any "true fan" of this series should at least like this movie! I saw the original at the theater back in the day, and have loved it ever since. I participated in the dvd campaign to bring the original to DVD. Rave to the Grave is almost as fun as any in the series(way better than necropolis). I wish that any one who dislikes this movie and gives it a bad rap on here, or anywhere else, would step up to the plate and make something better!!! My two cents worth!!!
like I said about part four it's not that bad!.......2007-04-07
This one is different than part four and I must say I liked it better. In this one they take the trioxon and use it as a drug not knowing what it will do to people.Of course the people that took the drug end up turning into zombies and that is when the fun begins. Also in this film we have the classic tar man zombie that we all know and love, that I thought was really cool. I still don't understand why people don't like part four and five. But to each their own I guess. But in my opinion if you like the first four return of the living dead films you should like this one. This one has the comedy just like the first two and like part four. In this one you have the two government agents that are funny as hell. As far as the zombies they are like the zombies in part four. Also there is plenty of zombie carnage and gore to please us sick individuals. But all in all this is your standard zombie film with zombies going around killing people. So if you like zombie movies you will like this.
I don't know how to explain this much suck...........2007-03-31
This is just pathetic...Uwe Boll makes a better zombie film...really...
They need to let this franchise die or find Russo & let him save it...But, it's probably too late - the cancer that is parts 4 & 5 has spread...This makes part 3 look like high art...
I love zombie films more than any kind of horror..I own more than most people know exist...I don't say this to soud like a know it all but this movie is just embarrasing...
You can cover dog poo in powdered sugar & call it candy, but this movie coated dog poo with more dog poo & called it candy...
Great movie.......2007-03-21
I don't know how people can call themselves a fan of horror/zombie movies, and then turn around and say, "It's the same old thing. Zombies, killing, completely readable, I knew just what was going to happen." That's part of the fun. You know you're already going to like the movie. There are enough differences to make the movie unique from the rest. If you like the other movies, you'll like this one too.
It's even worst than the 4th installment..if that's even possible.......2007-03-20
There's not much to say about Return of the Living Dead 5: Rave to the Grave other than it's actually worse than the movie before it. Return of the Living Dead 4: Necropolis was really bad and not in the so bad it's funny. What had been a cult horror franchise which had fun with the zombie genre in addition to putting some genuine scares in people, these last two Return of the Living Dead movies should pretty much kill the franchise just when the zombie revival is still going on strong.
Ellory Elkayem does directing duty for this fifth installment. He also directed the fourth film. I had thought that not everything should be laid at Elkayem's feet when it came to who to blame for the lackluster and awful film that was Necropolis, but after sitting through Rave to the Grave I have to say that whatever good will Ellory Elkayem built up with his funny take on the giant creature feature, Eight-Legged Freaks, has been wasted with his back-to-back filming of Return of the Living Dead 4 and 5. Elkayem films both films one after the other and I am going to assume this was more to save on the budget than any sort of continuity with the actors hired to play recurring roles. If saving money was the main reason then it sure didn't look like it. Except for a few hero-zombie (zombies given more screentime than most thus given a better make-up effect) scenes the film clearly shows it's ultra low-budget pedrigree. I don't have problems with low-budget horror movies as long as there's a sense of energy and enjoyment by those making it, but neither Necropolis and Rave to the Grave showed any one of the two.
Rave to the Grave occurs one year after the events of Necropolis and the teenage survivors of that film have now graduated and attending college. The film never really makes it clear if they're in back in the U.S. attending college or still in Eastern Europe where the previous film was set. Either way the survivors from the previous film seem to have moved on quite well from their horrific experiences in Necropolis. The fact that they don't seem to recognize the newly found containment barrel marked with the label of 2-4-5 Trioxin just adds to the weird and hge plot hole between film four and five. One would think that these kids would have it etched forver in their minds that containment barrel with 2-4-5- Trioxin equals horror. Instead they naively investigate and research the barrel with one of their friends realizing he could turn the chemical leaking from the barrel into a new form of rave drug whose extreme hallucinogenic effects also hide a side-effect which basically turns anyone who partakes of the drug into a zombie.
The rest of the movie deals with the survivors finally realizing the crisis they've unleashed and instead of calling for police or military help decide to go to the same outdoor rave party where everyone is taking the drug to try and find the person who made the drug Z and stop him from taking them. Like I said earlier the movie really has major plot holes and most of the time doesn't make much sense. What we get in the end is an excuse to have a huge set piece where the survivors get to shoot as many zombies as possible while at the same time allow for the random raver to suddenly become a zombie out of the blue. There's also a subplot of a couple of bumbling Men-in-Black type agents whose job it is to recover the Trioxin barrel while remaining inconspicuous. The secret organization they belong to must be global since I could barely understand their lines with the heavy Russian accent used by both "actors".
My disappointment in what could've been a nice follow-up to the first three Return of the Living Dead movies was compounded by the sheer Z-movie level of Rave to the Grave after the awful work that was Necropolis. For those wanting to see a good b-level zombie movie that's bad but enjoyable at the same time should check out House of the Dead 2. Yes, the sequel to Uwe Boll's rancid and awful House of the Dead ended up being better than the original and way more entertaining than Return of the Living Dead 5: Rave to the Grave. I wouldn't even accept this film as a free dvd if someone gave it to me.

The son brings her back to the miltary base were he brings her back to life. This starts the whole mess, and probably the birth of the best zombie I have ever seen. She is hott, dead and she pierce's her self and cuts her self to take the pain of the hunger away. Anyway my skills of telling ya the just of this movie sucks. Deserves MST3K treatment!.......2007-05-22
Let me start out by saying that I am a huge fan of ROTLD and ROTLD 3 (Mindy Clark is AWESOME!!!!) So I had somewhat high expectations of this movie. Now I realize that I was not going to be blown over with awesome production values or ILM special effects, I did however expect for a plausible storyline. I'm afraid to inform you that the writers of this movie didn't comply. Ridiculous! Avoid this movie like the plague!
Bad Bad Bad.......2007-03-27
I'm not sure if the crew intentionally wanted to produce a bad horror flick, but whether or not they did, this movie was just awful. Poor acting, bad story, you get the point. Of course I know you shouldn't expect too much more from a ROTLD sequel, so I'll just leave it at that.
Disgrace.......2007-03-15
The Return of the Living Dead series is one of the staple series of the zombie genre. You have Romero's films, and you have the Return films. Unlike Romero's films, the Return films have now gone down the path of utter disgrace.
Everything in Necropolis destroys everything that parts 1-3 of the series grounded. The zombies can be killed with a shot to the head now, yet a severed limb can exist without a brain? Some zombies have no control over any bodily function, yet another zombie can talk, recall memories, and have the urge to fight a victim for pure spite and never act upon taking a bite out of him? And what the heck was with the "oh, let's think we're funny and spoof the first one" with the whole "Send more security" bit?
If anything could have saved that mess, it should have been the characters. No, not at all. There may have been one character I cared about, but in the end, she didn't even matter. And the one character they tried to play as sweet and innocent and then turn her into a "foul-mouthed tough chick", that was a big joke. And one thing about the plot - in a way - is how can a guy see his thought-to-be-dead parents as now biological weapons be blowns to pieces and his little brother with his head ripped open and act like he doesn't give two cents about it, yet when the girl he supposedly likes is gunned down, he acts like it's the end of the world?
No ma'ams and sirs. Everything about Necropolis is a disgrace, and it should be disregarded from the series. Nothing here has to deal with the original 1-3 except for the name and some useless little nods to those previous installments.
This film truly angered me. Bad film.
Not as bad as it could have been.......2007-02-11
The movie has an adequate storyline and the screenwriter does a good job of setting up the characters so you actually care (or root) for them when they die. Most of the acting is beyond horrible though, along with the dialogue. The movie is more in the vein of the "Resident Evil" franchise, rather than "Return of the Living Dead". The zombies are no longer extremely agile or fast-moving, but slow and dim-witted.
The characters often make dumb moves like upon learning that the zombies ONLY die when shot in the head they STILL waste countless bullets on shooting them in the torso or chest. Morons!
The movie has the annoying obligatory "annoying brat brother" in the cast but I was surprised and happy with what happened with that character.
Really bad adolscent attempt.......2007-01-17
This movie was really bad. It was a mixture of Scooby Do with Thelma and Nancy Drew. It was a very adolscent attempt at making a horror flick. The story was bad along with the acting and make-up of the zombies. I am one that likes B horror flicks and I give this an absolute Z. This movie was filmed like a bunch of high school students got together and made this flick. Stay away from this movie!!!!!!!!!!

Customer Reviews:
One of the most disturbing gothic films ever made!.......2007-06-01
I have to admit something. I first rented this movie about a year ago, and didn't watch more than the first 15 minutes got bored and took it out. I finally rented it again just to give it a better look. I can admit when I was wrong. This is a truly surreal, disturbing , haunting work of horror and sensuality. It is erotic and yes even sinister at times. But it was really good. I'm surprised I had never given this film a chance before. The title always sounded stupid..but once I saw it I understood why. The point of this film is really....well....that there are places on the earth that are just damned without redemption. A great number of people would really hate this movie. I'm gonna stand up and say..if the point of celluloid is to educate, entertain, stimulate and emulate human nature as opposed to spiritual awareness...this movie did both in a dark way.
I must say I feel a bit shocked...but thrilled as well.
It's finally on DVD!.......2004-11-14
WARNING -- This is NOT, I repeat, NOT a Zombie movie. If anyone out there typed "Living Dead" into the Amazon search engine and come up with this little golden nugget Of Jess Franco weirdness, click the back button right now!
I know this movie has been re-titled "Zombie 4" and "Zombie 5" when intercut with footage from the 1980 film "Zombie Lake." But the "Living Dead" of the title refers to Vampires. The original title was "Cristina, Princess of Eroticism," but for some reason, they chose to mislead unsuspecting Zombie movie fans, as well as to reveal cause of the strange goings on we are meant to be wondering about.
I'm a great admirer of Jess Franco. I like to watch his movies, but unfortunately, it's impossible. Not only because he has made over 200 movies, and each one of them has about 5 different titles, but because the overwhelming majority of his films are crap. From what I read about Jess Franco, he would not argue with me on this particular point, because he allegedly believes ALL of his films are crap, whereas I actually like some of them.
The DVD has options to watch the film in its original language with English subtitles (which I didn't do, so I don't know what language that actually is, although I would assume it was French.) or dubbed in English. Most people probably think the preferred viewing option would be subtitles. As you can imagine, the dubbing is pretty atrocious, but there is a very specific reason why someone would want to watch the film this way. This film has been famous for several years (well, famous in a cult-like way) for being the source of many prominant and more lengthy samples on My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult's classic album, "Confessions of a Knife." Long time Thrill Kill Kult fans remember the eerie, "I hear her...she's calling me tonight.." and of course, "I'm blind, but I can see the color of souls, and yours is white," which is still used in their live show today. We've sought after it for years, and it's finally available on DVD! Although, sadly, my fellow TKK fans, the now legendary, "I'm gonna find her! And I'm gonna kill her!" sample is NOT in this film, but if you found that, don't you think you'd only end up disappointed?
Cristina is traveling to visit her extended family in a mansion, and everyone tells her not to go there, because no one lives there. Unless you blocked out the title of the movie, you can probably guess why they think this, even after Cristina arrives, and meets her family members. This movie doesn't have a lot of gore, but plenty of nudity, and general Jess Franco weirdness. The people who live in the house, and some who just hang around for no apparent reason, like to come into Cristina's room while she's sleeping. This never stops her from sleeping naked above her sheets, however, and if it did, it wouldn't be much of a Jess Franco movie.
One such person is Linda, a blind woman who says she wants to help Cristina, although it is never really explained how or why. One morning, Cristina wakes, naked of course, to find a big black dildo on her floor. When she flings it away, Linda says, "Oh, no, you've shattered the great ebony phallus! You are now doomed to eternal misery!" I haven't exactly figured out how Linda knew that Cristina shattered the great ebony phallus, since she is blind. But, since it is never mentioned again, I have to assume one of two things: 1) Linda knew Cristina was doomed to eternal misery anyway, in a mansion with the living dead, and shattering the phallus had nothing to do with it. She just put it there because she knows that a girl who sleeps naked when strangers keep coming into her room might find it useful or 2) Jess Franco wanted to shoot a scene with a naked girl sitting in front of a big black dildo, and wrote in Linda's line in a failed attempt to incorporate it into the plot.
Did I say, "plot"? I didn't mean to. Don't watch this expecting a story to unfold. Like most of his best films, it's a lot of weirdness and very little story. But if you're interested in Jess Franco enough to have looked this up, I would recommend it. It's also a must-see for Thrill Kill Kult fans.
Haunting Euro Horror.......2004-06-21
I was dying to see this film after reading about it in "Images in the Dark" ( a must have book on gay and lesbian films) The film is a lot better than I expected. Yes it does suffer from a low budget and atrocious English dubbing; but director Jesus Franco creates some haunting images that will stay with you after the final fade out.
One of Jess' Best.......2004-02-26
Franco's 150+ films can be divided into two types: crude, deritive films he quickly cranked out in order to maintain an income, and those into which he poured his heart and soul. The fact that most of his films fell into the former category, that he had low budgets and short filming periods, his films are often poorly translated, and ill-advised cuts were often created by his american distributors, has led to an underappreciation of Franco's skills. Although most of his films deserve all the criticism they receive, this disk should help lead to a reevaluation of Franco.
This film, despite the unfortunate title imposed upon it by the producers, is one of Franco's better films, although those looking for a horror film or one of Franco's more fun-filled movies, such as The Girl From Rio, will likely be disappointed.
After the death of his favourite star, Soledad Miranda, in a tragic accident, Franco spent about a year cranking out lousy films in order to quickly fulfill his contractual obligations with a German distributor. Afterwards, he created this film which is a very personal, poetic, surreal and melancholy rumination upon death, most likely inspired by Soledad's death. One of the themes touched upon is how death is especially tragic when it happens to someone who is young and innocent.
Attempting to describe the plot only does this film injustice. Without conveying the film's actual mood created through image, music, and acting, the story sounds absurd and simplistic. Fortunately, Image has for the first time released Franco's true vision of the film. As another reviewer notes, you should watch this in the original language. Previously the dozens of different cuts available in the american market were bastardized versions with inserts created by different directors. Some of these schlocky inserts are included on the disk as an extra, including some by Jean Rollin (from whom I would have expected much better).
What???.......2003-05-01
I first came across this movie on vhs rougly 6 or 7 years ago. I was browsing the horror section of a local Suncoast when I first discovered it. The cover had several grotesque looking zombies on it and the description of the film sounded pretty good so I took it home and watched it thinking I was in for a real surprise! I sure was! Too bad the surprise was that not only was this film so bad but it didn't even have anything to do with zombies. I have watched this movie a dozen times and still have no clue what it's about. There's no story, no plot, no zombies and it ends so abruptly that if you're not sitting down when it ends you'll fall over. It's like having the carpet pulled out from under you. Funny thing is I thought this would be the one film that would never see the light of day on dvd. Shows how much I know about marketing. I gave this film one star but only because that's the lowest I could go. Otherwise this movie would be in the red.
