Adam (Leigh Whannell) wakes up in a dank room across from Dr. Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes) and the body of a guy who has blown his own brains out. Not a happy place, obviously, and it gets worse when both men realize that they've been chained and pitted against one another by an unseen but apparently omniscient maniac who's screwing with their psyches as payment for past sins. Director James Wan, who concocted this grimy distraction with screenwriter Whannell, has seen Seven and any number of other arty existential-psycho-cat-and-mouse thrillers, so he's provided Saw with a little flash, a little blood, and a lot of ways to distract you from the fact that it doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense. Wan and Whannell (who's not the most accomplished actor, either) pile on the plot twists, which after some initially novel ideas become increasingly juvenile. Elwes works hard but looks embarrassed, and the estimable Danny Glover suffers as the obsessed detective on the case. The denouement will probably surprise you, but it won't get you back the previous 98 minutes.--Steve Wiecking

The first Saw picture actually had an idea behind it, to say nothing of the ingenuity of its low-budget production; making a silk purse out of a bloody, maggot-ridden human ear, as it were. With Saw III, the franchise pretty much settles into gore for gore's sake, as it explores newer and better ways to traumatize the body--and the audience. Events from Saw II are sewn up at the beginning of the film, and a detective on the trail of mad killer Jigsaw is quickly trussed up and subjected to one of the villain's sadistic games (this one has escape possible only by means of a key sitting in the bottom of a beaker of acid). Then we catch up with Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) himself, as he awaits death from his debilitating illness; once again he's tended by helper Shawnee Smith. The movie follows parallel plots: Jigsaw blackmails a doctor (Bahar Soomekh) into keeping him alive, and tortures a vengeful soul (Angus Macfayden) into recognizing the futility of revenge. Original Saw creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell worked on the script of this one, and it fully buys into the series mythology, referring backwards to previous events and, for all we know, preparing us for future installments. But if future installments are as pointlessly repugnant as this one, there's not much to look forward to. --Robert Horton

Description

Jigsaw has disappeared. With his new apprentice Amanda (Shawnee Smith), the puppet-master behind the cruel, intricate games that have terrified a community and baffled police has once again eluded capture and vanished. While city detectives scramble to locate him, Doctor Lynn Denlon (Bahar Soomekh) and Jeff (Angus Macfadyen) are unaware that they are about to become the latest pawns on his vicious chessboard

1 out of 5 stars A Truly Lousy, Mean-Spirited Sequel.......2007-06-22

What was great about the original Saw, was that there was a great twist ending and the gore was hinted at, not really graphic, leaving the viewer to conjure up the worst in their imagination. This was a similar tactic used in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, what was not seen seemed so much worse. With Saw 2, things took a little more graphic turn, there was still a nice twist ending, and the story wasn't as heavy handed, there was a "fun" element to the story. Saw 3 cranks up the gore, and slaps the viewer with a heavy, very melancholy storyline. Saw 3 is so depressive, there is really no one to cheer for, you really don't care who lives or dies as there is really no character development, and the two new main characters/victims are so unlikable you begin to lose interest. While I agree Saw 3 wraps up loose ends from Saw 2, it ends up presenting so many new questions that it doesn't feel like a complete film. Now you will have to see part 4 when it comes out to see how the storyline of part 3 wraps up. I don't care any longer, I am done playing Jigsaw's game. Unless your idea of entertainment is seeing broken bones being pushed through the skin, or toolbox brain surgery, stay away from this bloody mess of a film.

5 out of 5 stars Saw III-The last Saw?.......2007-06-21

If you saw the first and second Saw, you'll be pleased with Saw III. Some may think that this particular film isn't as good as the original, but it still stands on its own.

So what's this movie about? If you've seen the original and the second Saw (and if you haven't, I suggest you do), you know what the basic storyline is about. I fear that no matter what I say, I'll be giving away spoilers so all I'll say is that Jigsaw is ill and a doctor is kidnapped to help him. The goal of her "game" is to keep Jigsaw alive. If he dies, she dies. Meanwhile, another man must go through a series of games and his ultimate goal is to forgive the man who killed his son.

So what's to like about this film? First, we have some of the same characters from the original and sequel. We have Shawnee Smith as well as more in depth appearances by Leigh Whannell (obviously only flashbacks). Of course we also have Tobin Bell, who plays Jigsaw. Second, those who love the traps will shriek in delight with the traps in this particular film. I actually had to turn my head during a couple of them because they were too painful (pun intended) to watch. Third, the storyline in this particular film is more in depth and emotional than the first two. Rather than just having people playing Jigsaw's "games" (although there are an abundance of those as well), there's a real (and personal) reasoning behind Jigsaw's antics.

And what's not to like? You should definitely watch the original and the second Saw before checking this one out. This film won't make sense if you haven't seen the two previous Saws. Second, one thing that sort of irritated me was how the writers attempted to make Amanda as sad as possible. That in itself isn't irritating however the writers had her continually saying and doing a lot of things to further prove the point that she was not happy with her life. Other than that, this movie is great.

If you've seen and liked the first two Saws, be sure to add this one to your collection. I fear that this may be the last movie in the Saw series.

4 out of 5 stars All the pieces of the puzzle come together............2007-06-20

All I gotta say is that the Saw franchise continues to impress me. I mean, Tobin Bell can do no wrong as Jigsaw the killer!!! He is truly an amazing actor. Now as for the storyline, it is a simple yet very intense one. Jigsaw and Amanda have set up another twisted game for two people. One is a female doctor who is having an affair on her husband and the other is a man who hasn't come to terms with the death of his young son. Who was the victim of a car accident at the hands of a drunk driver. But the two of them will have to figure out their connection to one another, to survive Jigsaw's game and to make matters worse. Jigsaw may not have that long to live, as he too must fight to stay alive long enough to finish is his dangerous game.

5 out of 5 stars Saw III.......2007-05-29

I thought this was the best out of all the Saw Movies, I personally thought this movie was more detailed and kept me on the edge of my seat. Usually, with most movies after the first one, the remaining movies go down hill, not this one.

Have you ever seen a sequel that was as good as the original? Certainly not. This time is no different. Saw I was decent. Saw II was an insult. Saw III was zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ... a snoozer ...

Saw opens with a gruesome scenario: Two men are chained to the walls of a grimy bathroom with a bloody corpse lying on the floor between them. Tape recordings tell them that one of the men has to kill the other, or his wife and child will die. The corpse is holding a gun in one hand, but it's out of reach...but whoever has locked these two up has thoughtfully provided a hacksaw that can't cut through the heavy chain, but might cut through a little flesh and bone. From there, Saw jumps back and forth as the two men slowly unravel how they know each other and that their tormentor is one of those all-knowing, all-capable serial killers (it goes without saying that Saw is hugely influenced by Seven and the movies of Dario Argento), a fellow known as Jigsaw who disguises his voice and lets a creepy puppet (lifted almost directly from the eccentric animations of the Brothers Quay) be his visual representative. But imitation isn't inherently bad; what puts Saw ahead of its horror compatriots is a gleeful enthusiasm that a dozen sequels to Halloween couldn't muster. Saw has problems--it's clumsily overwritten (every detail of what's going on, no matter how visually evident, will be explained by the characters); most of the situations are static and implausible; and though the cast includes talented veterans like Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride) and Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon), the acting has the depth of a puddle. The rapid pace and frequently frenzied camerawork keep things in motion and while the philosophical underpinnings of Jigsaw won't challenge Hegel or Schopenhauer, they do offer more food for thought than most contemporary horror. Discriminating fans of the genre who like their gore with a glimmer of an idea will embrace Saw.

The Uncut Edition differs only slightly from the theatrical release; it reinserts a little more gore that was cut to get an R rating and tightens up the editing (the uncut version is actually a teensy bit shorter than the theatrical release). The extras are plentiful (if a bit thin): Two audio commentaries (one by director James Wan, screenwriter/actor Leigh Whannel, and Elwes), one by the producers--thankfully, no one takes themselves too seriously. Also included are a trio of typically self-congratulatory making-of featurettes ("He was amazing to work with" etc.), an animated storyboard of a sequence they couldn't afford to shoot, a DVD-ROM game in which you can construct your own puppet, a couple of self-mocking Easter Eggs, and lots of promotional stuff for Saw II. There's a very curious faux-news show purporting to be an investigation of the "real" Jigsaw, which uses clips from the movie as if they were documentary footage--it's hard to say whether this is a misguided attempt to make the movie seem creepier or a bit of flimsy humor. Most fans will find the regular DVD release satisfactory; this special edition is largely for hardcore enthusiasts. --Bret Fetzer

4 out of 5 stars Brilliantly sick and twisted...if you can stomach it.......2007-06-20

After countless raves from nearly every one of my horror film loving friends, I decided one day it was time for me to watch "Saw," an indie slasher film premiering at the Sundance Film Festival as one of the "Midnight Movies" that is widely considered one of the greatest horror films of its generation. In no way does this film disappoint, no matter what you are looking for in a film.

Let's start with the story. Two young men--a doctor named Dr. Gordon, and a photographer named Adam--wake up chained to the wall in a dirty, old washroom. Neither of them know how they got there--and they don't know each other either. There is a slaughtered corpse between them eerily clutching a tape recorder and two tapes addressed to each of the men. The message is clear: one must find a way to kill the other by 6:00 that evening or they will both--along with Dr. Gordon's family--be killed.

Before long, they realize they are now victims of the Jigsaw killer--a known serial killer who captures people who do not appreciate life and force them to hurt themselves or others in order to save themselves from a bloody, gruesome, brutal, torturous death. In a series of flashbacks, ze discover more about Jigsaw, and experience previous encounters his victims' have had. We learn of Gordon and Adam's past, an obsessed detective dedicated to finding Jigsaw, and a young drug addict named Amanda who survived Jigsaw's sick "games" and is now mentally scarred. As the story unfolds, it suddenly explodes into a brilliantly twisted psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the credits roll after the shock ending and even for some time after that. Lots of hardcore gore and an INCREDIBLY SCARY atmosphere accompany this much-above-average slasher flick.

The acting is both great and dreadful at different times, but is always thoroughly realistic. Jigsaw is perfectly cast in his role. Adam was sort of an annoying character, but still managed to deliver, and Dr. Gordon seemed like some WAY overdramatic guy out of Star Trek, and was the only character in the small cast I was actually hoping to get killed.

The directing and editing is absolutely nothing to rave about and is solely why I didn't give Saw 5 stars. The flashbacks are adequetly done, sometimes poorly, but unfortunately, for a super psychological horror film like Saw, that is a huge failure and deserves negative feedback. Very fortunately, the strong storyline and sheer terrifying simple atmosphere holds the film together.

Overall--a very enjoyable movie watching experience, and it will scare the living daylights out of you if you watch it alone on a big screen with surround sound. Not one for the little kids however, as it is very violent in some select scenes (particularly the ending) but that shouldn't keep you from seeing it. Very good and much, much more and above and ultimately smarter and more brilliant the average super-violent slasher horror films that are out there today.

4 out of 5 stars Wow - That was a surprise!.......2007-06-15

This was not as gory as I had been led to expect. The twists ARE NOT as predictable as most people think. No.. you don't really see the ending coming.
This is a psychological thriller and it's very good. Well done. There were discrepancies like someone having flash backs to someone else's memories. And some people acting pretty much annoying and the excuses for acting out of the very character templates are rather weak. A cop stays a cop. And if he's watching someone leave a building, he should have noticed when someone went in - or more specifically that he missed it when they went in and had an alarm go off in his head.
Characters are engines to further a plot but they need to be more or you end up with GhostShip where frankly you don't even bother remembering anyone's name - you already know their parts and purposes.

I will definately get the next one. This movie was such a pleasant surprise!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best horror movies I've ever seen!!.......2007-06-01

If you like scary movies, you'd know that they're pretty much all the same. You have an inhumane killer that murders dozens and dozens of people either because they had a rough childhood or for no reason at all. If you've seen one scary movie, you've seen them all, right? Fortunately for horror movie fans, the creators of Saw have come up with a fresh and original concept that has spawned two sequels.

So what's this movie about? It starts out with two men passed out on opposite sides of a decrepit (and secluded) bathroom where they are chained to pipes. Oh and not to mention, there's a dead man lying down in a pool of blood in the middle of the floor. When they come to, they find a tape and upon listening to it, find out that they have to play a game in order to free themselves. The twist? This game is far from being fun. The reason? In order to free themselves, they must cut through their feet to escape. With a saw. The men must figure out why they were chosen to play the game, how, and what happens if they don't escape.

Horror movie fans, this is a must see. And if you don't like scary movies, you must see this anyway. Just turn your head during the gory parts. You'll still truly appreciate the mystery and surprise that surrounds this movie.

5 out of 5 stars A Horror Classic.......2007-05-26

SAW is a true horror classic no doubt about it. Damn he {or she} who remakes this film...EVER. In the world of gore-porn and endless remakes or "re-imaginations", {I have to say this ~ Rob Zombie is pathetic for "re-imagining" Halloween...thanks for trashing it Rob} SAW stands alone as a film that is sick, very disturbing, scary, intense, frightful, mentally numbing, thrilling, avante garde, theatrical, spontaneous, evil, and macabre! This is a film where the villains recorded voice is as disturbing as his actions..and the villain is not even revealed until the last minute of the film...literally the final scene. The film cannot be compared to Se7en because we see most of the torture in the film and the villain takes up more time giving his monologue than Jigsaw's "Most people are so ungrateful to be alive...but not you...not anymore."

Two men wake up in a grimy abandoned bathroom chained and unable to escape. We see a dead man laying in the middle of the floor. His tape recorder reveals the two men are part of a deadly "game" in which only one of them will survive...if he can find the primal instinct..the "will" to survive. As the film progresses we learn about "Jigsaw" who tortures his "test subjects" in order to make them appreciate their lives they have apparently abused. Jigsaw's "test subjects" include: Jeff a man who attempted suicide but failed, Amanda the drug addict, Adam the voyeur photographer and loser, and Dr. Gordon a doctor who neglects his wife and daughter. Jigsaw makes them realize their blessings in his tortuous devices where the subject must maime his/her self or another to escape.

The films gives us clues to the identity of Jigsaw, directing attention to the orderly called Mr. Hindel aka "Zepp"...or is the killer one of the men chained in the bathroom? Dr. Gordon? Adam? The film is a Hitchcockian mystery to figure out 'who is doing this...and why?' that draws you to an intense and disturbing {not to mention disgusting} climax that will leave you stunned.

I like the film because like Se7en there is a sick twisted pathos that is plain and painfully clear in our times: "most people are so ungrateful to be alive...."

The Curse of Aleister Crowley: Descent into Lies and Madness

4 out of 5 stars An Excellent Horror Flick.......2007-04-20

I'm not exactly sure why, but I hate to admit I liked this movie. It was blood, guts and gore at its very best. Halloween sets the standard in horror, as far as I'm concerned, and this is in no way on par with that movie, but it kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat. It's a simple plot filled with a lot of elaborate killings scenes. I liked it enough to rent two and three, and if a Saw four comes out, I'll rent it to. If you like horror with gore, you can't miss this movie.

Saw II brings back many features of the original Saw: elaborate sadistic scenarios designed to "test" the victims' will to live; Tobin Bell as the Machiavellian (yet doomed) serial killer Jigsaw; Shawnee Smith as Amanda, a survivor of one of Jigsaw's "games", forced to play again; Dina Meyer (Starship Troopers), whose role as a detective is considerably expanded; and the stunningly godawful dialogue of screenwriter Leigh Whannel. The set-up this time is even more preposterous than before, as a rough-and-tumble cop named Eric (Donnie Whalberg, Band of Brothers) watches, on video monitors, his son trapped in a house filled with nerve gas and a handful of other victims, all of whom are mysteriously connected. Eric has captured Jigsaw, but the implacable killer refuses to reveal where the cop's son is being held... unless Eric will play by Jigsaw's rules. Fans of Saw will love Saw II, as the tortures are more gruesome than before; viewers who found Saw either detestable or laughable won't like Saw II either, as the characters rarely behave like actual people (even when a moment's explanation would solve a conflict, no one bothers to communicate, even though their lives are on the line). It's a festival of body fluids, agonized grimaces, and shrieks of pain--and if that's your thing, this is your movie. --Bret Fetzer

5 out of 5 stars Same game, different rules.......2007-06-21

If you saw the first Saw, you'll be pleased to hear that it has spawned two other movies using the same twists. Although some say that Saw II isn't as good as the original, it certainly stands on its own.

So what's this movie about? If you've seen the original (and if you haven't, I suggest you do), you know what the basic storyline is about. In this particular movie, we have a group of people stuck in a house. Their ultimate goal? To find out the combination to a safe that contains an antidote. What happens if they don't find out the combination? A gas will enter the house and they will eventually die.

So what's to like about this film? First, we have some of the same characters from the original as well as a couple actors/actresses that are familiar (including 7th Heaven's Beverley Mitchell, Donnie Wahlberg, and the lovely Shawnee Smith). We also have Tobin Bell, the character who at the end of the first Saw was discovered to be behind the "game". Second, those who love the traps will shriek in delight with the traps in this particular film. I actually had to turn my head during a couple of them because they were too painful (pun intended) to watch. Third, the storyline in this particular film changes a bit and provides the same shock that you experienced at the end of the first film.

And what's not to like? You probably should watch the original before checking this one out. I personally hadn't seen the first Saw before I saw the sequel and although I understood a good portion of it, a lot more would have made sense if I saw the original.

If you're into gory movies like Saw (and if you've seen the first one), be sure to add this one to your collection.

4 out of 5 stars Not nearly as good as the original but enjoyable sequel........2007-05-05

Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) is back! this time he traps a helpless group of several people people (Shawnee Smith, Erik Knudsen, Tim Burd, Franky G, Emmanuelle Vaugier, Glenn Plummer, Tony Nappo) in a booby-trapped filled house conducted by Jigsaw and his sick twisted ideas. Detective Eric Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg) discovers Jigsaw himself for he must play the game if his son and the other victims can survive.

Enjoyable and fairly grisly sequel to the suprise instant new horror classic "Saw" has writer-and-director James Wan as executive producer. The acting is good in some places but there is some more memorable moments of torture and gore such as the now infamous cringe-inducing "Pit of Syringes" and the gunblast to the eyeball boobie trap, though nowhere as great as the original this is still a fairly watchable and violent sequel.

This unrated uncut 2-Disc DVD set contains the alternate unrated cut not shown in theaters with excellent extras like two audio commentaries, theatrical trailer, a fun "Play Me" set top navigation game much like the one on the "Nightmare on Elm Street" boxset, The making of "Saw II" multi-featurette, "Zombie" a short student film from the director of this movie, and "The story behind the story" multi-featurette.

3 out of 5 stars Unbelievable..........2007-04-28

Saw was unbelievable. Saw 2 is too, but for totally the wrong reasons. The original was... original! It was innovative. Edgy. A cool thriller. Suspenseful. Exceptionally well plotted. This... is derivative garbage. In all but title, it's nothing to do with the original really. Yes, the villain is resurrected. Yes, there are wondrous ways for people to die. Yes, people are trapped with only fiendishly clever ways for them to escape... but where's the gripping concept that kept you glued from the first minute with the original? Where are the clever twists, the intricate plotting, the "Ohhhh, didn't expect that!"? This is just one of those sequels that has no other aim but to cash in on the success of its predecessor. Such a waste. I bought this, unfortunately. I will not be rushing to watch it a second time.

5 out of 5 stars WOW... awesome movie.......2007-04-04

this movie kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole 90 minutes... especially when the ending of the movie came around. all i can say is expect a big twist. when the movie was over, i had to sit for about 5 minutes and think about the ending.... and then i realized that i was an idiot for not noticing all the clues that showed up during the movie lol. anyway, this movie deserves a 5 star rating just for the ending itself.

5 out of 5 stars Shockingly good sequel.......2007-03-27

Saw II is that rare movie that stays intriguing and believable the entire way through, while maintaining a cohesive storyline and gore to spare. The acting is solid, the scares are real, and the viewer is trying just as hard as Donnie Wahlberg's Detective Matthews to solve the mystery. What's most amazing is that all the clues really are right before your eyes.

At the beginning of the film, Jigsaw has committed another grisly murder, and left his calling card for Detective Matthews to track him down. Matthews reluctantly takes the case and quickly locates Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) in his warehouse lair. But this is only the beginning of another one of Jigsaw's intricate games.

Now eight people, including Matthews' son, are trapped in a house where deadly nerve gas is seeping through the walls and into their bodies. As the police try to locate the house and figure out a way to rescue the prisoners, they are also trying to figure their own way out together, while fighting amongst themselves to find out what connects them all.

The suspense in this film is palpable and Tobin Bell's Jigsaw is one of the best horror franchise "bad guys" in years. His twisted sense of morality: "Those that don't appreciate life do not deserve it" is the kind of terrible explanation that makes a psychopath real and frightening.

The twists that this film takes are surprising and show the kind of intelligence that the majority of horror schlock coming out these days is severely lacking.

The DVD extras are truly spectacular. The viewer gets a look at how the set designers laid out every one of the various traps in the film, from the needle pit to the furnace trap. All the props are also examined (the bat with nails in it, etc.). Overall, this is the kind of horror film that is watchable over and over again and the kind of film that makes a great addition to any collection.

    5 out of 5 stars Saw III-The final Saw?.......2007-06-21

    4 out of 5 stars Time For a Change?.......2007-06-17

I guess the most common question is, is Saw 3 better than the first two? I don't think there's a clear-cut answer to that. In some ways, I think the third film surpassed the first two. I thought it was more consistent and coherent in it's film-long development. I thought the suprise ending was done very well (for what it was). The movie presented a slightly more sophisticated set of ethical dilemmas this time.

On the other hand, there were some areas where I felt the film was lacking compared to the first couple. First, the actual kills are starting to lose their effectiveness. There is still tension, gore, and innovation in the tortureous situations. But the emotional and cognitive impact is somewhat diminished, IMO. I think we've gotten to the point where the killings will continue to diminish in effectiveness, unless we are given some type of substantial back story for the character that lets us connect with them, and the kill is either very prolonged (to add gut-wrenching tension) or very quick (for a shocking effect).

Another issue that I had with the film is that I found the reasoning of Jigsaw to be somewhat hypocritical. Jigsaw chided Amanda for her senseless killing, since her traps were unwinnable. This seems strange to me, in two ways. First, apparently it wasn't the actual loss of innocent lives that Jigsaw had a problem with, but just that Amanda's methods weren't the same as his. Murder is fine for Jigsaw, you just have to give the people a minute chance of survival. That's quite an ethical hair to split. Another problem I have with this is that Jigsaw allowed Amanda to set up the traps and kill the people just as a set up for a test. If Jigsaw was so against Amanda's methods, couldn't he have tested her while only making her *think* that her methods were being employed?

In any event, whatever I feel the short comings to be, I'd still say that this was a good movie for anyone who enjoys the horror genre. It seems that some changes will take place in the next Saw, and I have to admit that they've gotten me curious about where they are planning to go.

    5 out of 5 stars Completely Satisfied.......2007-05-09

Great film. More horrific than expected and definately the best of the trilogy. Absolutely sadistic. Cheers.

A Cinderella story from the mean streets of Kingston, Jamaica, the alternately comic and gritty Dancehall Queen is an intriguingly dark crowd pleaser. Marcia (Audrey Reid) is a single mom and street vendor barely scraping by even with a financial assist from the seemingly avuncular Larry (Carl Davis), a gun-toting strongman with a twisted desire for Marcia's teenage daughter. Complicating things is Priest (Paul Campbell), a murderous hood who killed Marcia's friend and now is terrorizing the defenseless woman. Facing three big problems--Larry, Priest, and a lack of money---Marcia arrives at an inspired solution: develop an alter ego, a dancing celebrity called the Mystery Lady who can compete in a cash-prize contest and pit both of the men against one another. Which is exactly what she does, and it's great fun watching Marcia instigate her complicated plan with a little help from sympathetic friends. Colorful, rowdy, funny, and dangerous, Dancehall Queen is a clever and ceaselessy energetic movie steeped in Kingston street life and the desire to keep body and soul together at home. Reid is a delight as the everyday figure who transforms into an icon in the evenings, and the dance scenes are amazingly bawdy. --Tom Keogh

    4 out of 5 stars Good movie....inspirational.......2007-03-09

This was a really good movie. Since I've visited Jamaica my love for it has evolved into watching good movies and listening to good music. This movie was really good. You just have to listen close because some of the language is in patios.

5 out of 5 stars Modern Jamaican Cinderella story!.......2007-01-26

I love Dancehall Queen! I lost my first copy (VHS) so I replaced it with a new copy in DVD. I never get tired of watching this movie and I consider it a Jamaican movie classic right up there with Harder They Come, Rockers and Smile Orange. It is a nice twist on the traditional rags-to-riches story. Although her character's morals are somewhat questionable (she practically "sells" her daughter to a high-paying local don), you can't help but root for the protagonist Marcia!

    5 out of 5 stars Very Entertaining.......2007-01-04

I loved this movie, even though some of the actors did not sound anything like a real West Indian/Jamaican. I chalked that up to not having enough Carribean actors to fill the roles. Overall though, it was a very entertaining movie, especially the Dancehall Scenes.

    4 out of 5 stars Dancehall Queen.......2006-11-04

I loved this movie! A widower uses her smarts to outwit two dangerous men responsible for her husband's death and further abuse to her and her family. She becomes the mystery lady and enter a dance contest which results in the end to all her problems. A Fantastic film! Wonderful music! African accent.

    Customer Reviews:

    4 out of 5 stars Hardcore Thriller!!!.......2007-03-09

I really enjoyed this freaking movie. Interesting twists all through the movie and in some parts it was terrifying. If you liked the first two movies you will love this one. Pretty awesome... go on and buy it and enjoy the gore.

    5 out of 5 stars Still Creepy.......2007-03-08

While not as ground breaking as the first one SAW 3 still delivers some cringe worthy moments. It's not a scary movie, per se, but still makes you realize how weird some people are. A must see for anyone who has seen the first two.

3 out of 5 stars Entertaining, but gory.......2007-02-27

I've seen all the Saw movies and this one is much like the first 2, but with more gore and less suspense or mystery. So I would have to say this was the least interesting of the three. But the movie provides closure, I just hope they don't make another-not sure what is left to tell. This was the first Blu Ray disc I watched on my PS3. I also own the Toshiba A1 HD DVD player so I've seen a lot of high def movies. As with most high def movies, the picture was very sharp and saturated in brighter scenes. In darker scenes, the picture was more noisy and looked like regular DVD. But I have seen this on all high def movies so I don't think Saw 3 was a bad transfer. If you liked the first 2, then you'll probably like this one too.

4 out of 5 stars Saw III tha masterpiece!!.......2007-01-27

When I first seen SAW III at the movie theater, it is real gruesome and it was used by DLP projector with the best possible picture. So, I had to bought this movie from Wal-Mart... on Blu-ray because I was thinking it might will look better than how it look at the movie and most ppl say blu-ray looks awful... aww please, I believe they are not watching blu-ray on High Definition Television (HDTV). Watching blu-ray on SDTV or EDTV not going to surprise your eyes into HD...

I watched this movie with an Playstation 3 that plays blu-ray

Now, I seen all Saw movies.. I would like to say this movie has more gore than the first and second ones... It alot of disturbing images going on in this film, a lot of strange stories and flashbacks. If u like Saw 1 and 2.. then you would love this one far better.
By the way, there will be another Saw movie... Saw 4.. the same mastermind John will return but i am not sure if this is an sequel or prequel.

I love this movie, and watching it on Blu-ray on my new Sony 1080p TV was phenomenal! The scene with the needles made me cringe, had to look away for a minute. Anyways, glad I chose Blu-ray over HD-DVD, since this title isn't available on the lame HD-DVD format.
