Description
Once upon a time in the 18th century a beast lived in the woods of an aristocratic estate. And this beast, possessed of a giant phallus and an insatiable lust, set upon the beautiful young lady of the house. Two centuries later, the tale of the beast would return in the dreams of an American heiress contracted to carry the male descendant of the same crumbling aristocratic family and their secret.
Controversial rework of "The Beauty And The Beast", which was forbidden for 25 years, Walerian Borowczyk's erotic masterpiece receives its definitive presentation on three discs, including a brand new widescreen (16x9) transfer with optional French and English dialogue, two Hours of Behind The Scenes, and the rare rediscovered Complete Version.

The folks at Pixar can do no wrong with Monsters, Inc., the studio's fourth feature film, which stretches the computer animation format in terms of both technical complexity and emotional impact. The giant, blue-furred James P. "Sulley" Sullivan (wonderfully voiced by John Goodman) is a scare-monster extraordinaire in the hidden world of Monstropolis, where the scaring of kids is an imperative in order to keep the entire city running. Beyond the competition to be the best at the business, Sullivan and his assistant, the one-eyed Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), discover what happens when the real world interacts with theirs in the form of a 2-year-old baby girl dubbed "Boo," who accidentally sneaks into the monster world with Sulley one night. Director Pete Doctor and codirectors David Silverman and Lee Unkrich follow the Pixar (Toy Story) blueprint with an imaginative scenario, fun characters, and ace comic timing. By the last heart-tugging shot, kids may never look at monsters the same, nor artists at what computer animation can do in the hands of magicians. --Doug Thomas
Description
From the Academy Award(R)-winning creators of TOY STORY comes the computer-animated film that captured the hearts of fans and critics everywhere. MONSTERS, INC., is "visually dazzling, action-packed, and hilarious" (Boston Herald), featuring groundbreaking animation, imaginative storytelling, and unforgettable voice talent. John Goodman stars as the lovable James P. Sullivan (Sulley) and Billy Crystal as his wisecracking best friend, Mike Wazowski. Top scarer Sulley and his enthusiastic Scare Assistant Mike work at Monsters, Inc., the largest scream-processing factory in Monstropolis. The main power source of the monster world is the collected screams of human children. Monsters believe children are dangerous and toxic, however, and they are scared silly when a little girl wanders into their world. Sulley and Mike do their best to return the girl home, but they face monstrous intrigue and some hilarious misadventures along the way. MONSTERS, INC., is "supremely clever -- fun for kids and adults alike" (CBS-TV). Treat yourself to the most entertaining movie of the year with all-new exclusive bonus features and animation for monster laughs and monster fun.
Customer Reviews:
Wish there were a sequel!.......2007-06-28
It was that good! Unfortunately they didn't leave a door open for a sequel. Great story about the Monsters all little kids fear in their bed at night, and their interaction with those kids. It gives you the persepective from the other side of your closet door where the Monsters live. The characters are very lovable. Great, great comedy sequences, you will be laughing out loud! Unique story line. "Loving" out-come. Enjoy!
WOW!! What a great movie.. This movie should live on FOREVER!!!.......2007-06-22
This movie was great and it was really enjoyable and funny. I have had this movie since it came out as I went to see it in the movie theater. This would be my favorite movie of all time. Sulley(James P. Sullivan) and Mike Wazowski (the main characters of this movie) are my favorite characters in this movie and are my two favorite characters in any movie. Randall Boggs would be my third favorite character in the movie because he makes me LAUGH!! But he gets destroyed into a trailor during my favorite part of the movie which is when Mike and Sulley are hanging or flying on doors to try to get Boo home. Boo is my least favorite character in this movie because she CRIES a lot during the movie and just not my favorite. Celia, who Mike is in love with isn't all that great too. But I think Roz is great. She makes me laugh when she tells Mike that he didn't turn in his paperwork. and Mr. Waternoose would be my 5th and last most favorite character in this movie till he gets arrested by the CDA. Also, the part where Mike and Sulley go to Himalayas is great because they're in a BLIZZARD!! The worst part of the movie is when Sulley and Mike take Boo home that's when I feel to cry. But overall, this is a really great movie which I wish I could give this 10 stars. Please get this movie but Shrek s$cked!!!
Best film of the year.
Power-ful Kiddie Entertainment.......2007-06-21
Some of the best stories for children have presented their worst fears only to have the menace brought down to size. "Jack and the Beanstalk" works that way perfectly. 'Monsters, Inc.' helps to tuck the kiddies in and give them the giggles, too. Taking near day-glow colors, the Monsters in this fluid Pixar picture are hideously cute. They live in a "green" world where the renewable resource of children's fright powers the Monster community. Looking like the sorts in (Lucas Films, Ltd. is credited here) a 'Star Wars' bar scene, the film's focus is on the power company where the employees go through magic doors, their portals to children's bedrooms where the fright factor generates their power plant.
Heading the troops is big blue "Sully" (John Goodman) a good natured monster, proud of his ability to be the equivalent of "Employee of the Month". Keeping track of his generating power, he is out to set a plant record. His green, one-eyed sidekick, Mike Wazowski, (Billy Crystal) has a Martian appearance, but his voice couldn't scare a mouse. He is smitten by one-eyed purple princess, Shroopsy with hydra hair (snake braids). They all face their competition with rascally Randall, (perfectly villainous, Steve Buscemi) the salamander-like monster with invisible capabilities. Pivotal to the plot is Mr. Waternoose, (James Coburn) a tycoon who resembles a tarantula in a three-piece suit. In the causality is 'Silkwood'-like contamination if any child or remnant remains in the Monster world. (In other words: Just like parents often say about insects or some animals: "They're more afraid of [children], than [they] are of them.") Sully and James come across "Boo" whom they find in their best interests to return to the dark realm of her own bedroom.
Formidable to the fore, 'Monsters,..." takes a premise that could have been a dumb non-starter, and provides supporting plot structures with enough heft to turn the adventure on. With Pixar animation, the movement is flowing enough to take the technological edge off the look, and Andrew Stanton and Daniel Gerson's screenplay keep the dialogue fresh and funny. Director Pete Docter gives the movie proper assembly. 'Monsters, Inc.' is therapeutically good for children's dreamscapes as well as their funny bones. (Highly recommended to rent and to own.)
Pixar Created A Classic!.......2007-06-14
Monsters Inc is a great piece that your family will love! Loveable monsters are brought to life and make you laugh a lot! Laughter is more powerful than screams you know. A loveable classic for any collection!
Great movie.......2007-06-13
Hey it's Mike,
Wow!! What a great movie this is. This is by far my favorite movie due to the presence of Mike and Sulley. There is not a lot of great movies out there, but this one is one of the very best!! Sulley, Mike, Randall, Roz, and Waternoose are all great characters and 3 of them are really funny! Boo and Celia are my two least favorite characters in the film. The best part of this movie is the Flying on Doors part where Randall gets destroyed.
The end is the saddest part of the movie when Sulley and Mike take Boo home.
Well this movie is the best as I wish that I can give this much more than 5 stars like a million stars. Please buy.

Though set in the late-1980s, Beauty and the Beast plays like something from another era. There's no irony, cynicism, or hip quips to break the spell of the fantasy (though a little humor would've been nice). Catherine (Linda Hamilton) loves the beastly, if beneficent Vincent (Ron Perlman) with all her heart--and vice versa. Together, they're TV's most soft-hearted crime fighters. To the show's credit, however, they aren't infallible, and there are a few problems they're unable to solve, whether the issue is drug addiction ("Chamber Music"), infectious disease ("Ashes, Ashes" with Highlander's Adrian Paul), or murder ("The Hollow Men").
In retrospect, it's clear that Beauty and the Beast was a reaction to the "greed is good" era. Vincent and his cave-dwelling compatriots represent a more compassionate alternative to "topsider" corruption. Yet all is not harmonious below either. Seriously injured the previous year, Paracelsus (Tony Jay) becomes a Phantom of the Opera-type figure, who aims to destroy Vincent's candle-lit utopia. In addition, a less civilized group of outcasts arrives in "The Outsiders." Fortunately, Vincent has Father (Roy Dotrice), Mary (Ellen Geer), Mouse (David Greenlee), and Pascal (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Armin Shimerman) on his side.
Unfortunately, they won't be able to prevent the tragedy that occurs in "The Rest Is Silence." Suffice to say, the season finale sets the scene for a new direction (more is revealed in the third-season opener). Consequently, Beauty and the Beast was canceled the following year, but still managed to rack up 18 Emmy nominations (winning six), spawning a soundtrack, and even inspiring some Saturday Night Live spoofing--a sure sign it had struck a chord. While the first season was devoid of extras, Perlman and Hamilton introduce six key episodes on this set. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Product Description
The Beauty and the Beast TV show was a fantasy series about a man-beast (Vincent) and his love for a beautiful assistant district attorney (Catherine Chandler). Vincent lived in an underground world beneath New York City where his gruesome looks were less important to his peers than were his caring and benevolent personality. Together, Vincent and Catherine had many adventures both above and below ground level and their love for each other continued to grow.
Customer Reviews:
Remake this show.......2007-07-02
I think they should try to Remake this show because this time of year.. many people like romance and fiary tales! I would watch it!
You give Love a Good Name.......2007-07-01
Starring Jon Bon Jovi and Sarah Connor as the crimefighting brother and sister with identical facial features and wildly differing blonde manes, this tender re-enactment of Cocteau's seminal black and white gothic masterpiece of 14th century cinema still possesses the power to heal little blind orphans, nearly two decades after its original regurgitation.
Season 2 continues where Season 1 left off, and continues the story until the Season Finale, where it ends. Until Season 3.
One thing i still don't understand. If Bon Jovi lives in a sewer, and Sarah Connor is a lawyer, at what point in human history do the Machines twig that the conception of John Connor could have been easily prevented by the wanton destruction of every copy of the OST to "Young Guns II - Blaze of Glory"?
All will be revealed in the Season 3 Finale. I hope.
Of romance, adventure and love eternal.......2007-05-19
This is one of the best TV series ever! It has all the ingredients that make a classic - well-plotted storylines, a cast of interesting characters, and above all, an otherworldly romance between the gentle, noble Vincent, and the luminously beautiful Catherine. In each scene where they come together, you cannot help but be mesmerised by the tremendous depth of emotion and feeling that is seen on their faces, their body language, and their dialogue. These two share an on-screen chemistry that is quite rare even till today. Linda Hamilton plays her role with a measure of beauty, courage and conviction that is utterly convincing. Ron Perlman's Vincent is the gentle beast, who is kind and loving to his friends and the needy and brutally vicious to the scum of society. His love for Catherine is so poetic, yet even when these two yearning souls are exchanging romantic dialogue or reading from books under the moonlight, they appear convincing and their love for each other rings true. I know I'm gushing here but it is this compelling love story that makes the show what it is, and although each episode has its share of thrills, it is Vincent's & Catherine's unerring love for each other that compels us to view the show. I can't wait for the DVD release.
Special features please!.......2007-05-04
I love beauty and the beast. Hopefully the second season will include at least some special features. I'm sure any fan would faint if there were any episode commentaries from Linda Hamilton and Ron Pearlman. I know I probably would. Also what happened to the lost love letters that were included on the VHS versions. Hopefully we'll be able to see them on a future release.
There are simply not enough stars in all the universe........2007-04-06
It stands to reason that, since you are reading this in the Season Two section, you are already well aware of the epic majesty and absolute Love that are Vincent and Catherine. Words are beyond insufficient in describing this series for those who remain mournfully ignorant, but if it will intrigue new viewers, it is definitely worth the effort.
In short, "Beauty and the Beast" is Poetry in sight, sound and emotion. This is the one series that will forever be known as the impossibly beautiful, heart-wrenching, and all-consuming dream that changed everyone who understood its message. I truly pity those who refused to do so, even if it was in part due to them that such a brilliant masterpiece was cancelled so quickly.
Now to the topic at hand: Season Two, the most beloved of many a fan. Personally, I disagree. Every single episode captured my imagination and left me aching for more, even in the most violent and tragic moments. I simply love them all, so much so that I own a boot-leg "all season" set (rest assured that I have bought the official versions and will continue to do so). However, I will admit to having something very close to a "favorite," and it happens to reside in this season, so... take from that what you will.
"Brothers," in my opinion, encapsulates the very spirit of a very difficult to define series, and it has dear Charles. When he and Vincent talk about the misleading effects of appearances, giving Charles the courage to remove his bag-like mask... I literally wept from sheer joy. While it is true that the man will never be an Adonis by "normal" standards because of the disfigurement from his disease, he could power an entire hemisphere indefinitely with that smile. Seeing him come to terms with his differences, with the support of his newfound friends, and gain the courage to face the World Above for the sake of his eternally restless "brother" Devon left me deeply moved. Such is the incandescence of all Vincent, Catherine, and their world have been trying to share with us for the last two decades. I can only pray that more will listen in time.
Like the rest of the hopelessly addicted followers, I eagerly await this release, when I might add the in-store version to my Amazon pre-order as I have with Season One. Will the extremely controversial Season Three have the same luck? I sincerely hope so.

"Once upon a time... in the city of New York." So begins this unique fantasy-crime series. Catherine (Emmy nominee Linda Hamilton, The Terminator) is an assistant DA who's attacked one night by strangers. When she wakes up, her face is covered in bandages. Someone named Vincent (Golden Globe winner Ron Perlman) has been taking care of her in his home beneath the subway. When she removes the dressing, she finds that he's a man-beast, but fear turns to trust when she becomes convinced he has her best interests at heart. As she states in the introduction, "We have a bond stronger than friendship or love." As the season unfolds, Vincent frequently comes to Catherine's assistance. As an empath, he knows instinctively when she's in trouble. When he needs help, Vincent turns to Father (Roy Dotrice), the doctor who raised him after he was abandoned at the hospital after he was born. His origins are unknown. Together, Catherine and Vincent are like the detectives of Remington Steele, except no one knows she's part of a team, since they're only able to meet in secret. Vincent's underground companions, however, get to know Catherine well. Just as Vincent comes to her aid as needed, she does the same for his community.
Although Beauty and the Beast has little in common with the Jean Cocteau film or Disney animated picture, the appeal is similar. Cynics may find these do-gooders sentimental, especially when Catherine utters lines like, "And although we cannot be together, we will never, ever be apart." But romantics made the CBS drama successful--at least until Hamilton left in the second year--and launched the Emmy-nominated Perlman into cult favorites like The City of Lost Children. Oscar winner Rick Baker (An American Werewolf in London) also deserves credit for his convincing make-up effects. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Very good.......2007-06-25
The DVD was so much more reasonably priced than it was in stores, and it came in perfect condition
My all time favorite television program.......2007-06-12
Beauty and the Beast Season One has finally been released on DVD, and it is thrilling for me to revisit this jewel of entertainment. From its premiere (which I only saw because I was waiting to watch the season premiere of Dallas), I have been a devoted fan. Enchanting in every way, BATB embraced the essence of romance with its quality acting, writing, music and the depth of each character, especially its starring roles of Vincent and Catherine. There will just never be another tv romantic hero like Vincent. He was intelligent, warm, caring, strong, educated, kind to children but fiercely protective of his Catherine and those whom he considered family. The plots in the first two seasons possessed good story lines, but my favorite episodes were those that highlighted the impossible relationship of Vincent and Catherine. Its timelessness is so well demonstrated by its 20th anniversary and the good production of the DVD set. And now, 20 years later, it is thrilling for me to share BATB with my children who are fascinated by the story of the underground tunnels and those who live in secret places and of course, the love story of Vincent and Catherine, set to gorgeous music and wonderful poetry. For thy sweet love remembered, such wealth brings!
Finally!.......2007-06-08
I missed this show! It brought back many Friday night memories. the whole family loves it with enough action, intrigue & romance for everyone.
Beauty and the Beast - First Season.......2007-06-08
I am truly enjoying this show. I watched it many years ago but never saw the first episodes only the ones at the end. It is very romantic and different from today's programs. I just watch a couple of episodes every day or two and I always wait until I'm sure no one will call me and then I just sit back and enjoy!
Great Buy!.......2007-06-05
I loved this show when I was a kid (was 8 when it first aired) - and I still love it now! Granted, I understand a LOT more of what's going on now. If you can get past the 80's/90's fashion, the big hair styles, and slightly cheesy music (think about when it was first created), it really is a fabulous series! I absolutely love Ron Perlman in this! I couldn't stop watching it (finished the season in about a week), and now I'm impatiently waiting for the 2nd season to be released! Too bad this show didn't have a longer run!

This strange, 1985 experiment by Ridley Scott (Blade Runner) starred the up-and-coming Tom Cruise in a fairy-tale world of dwarfs and unicorns and demons. After the horn of a unicorn is broken, darkness and winter descend upon the world. Cruise's character, helped along by a magic sprite played by David Bennent (The Tin Drum), descends into hell to save paradise. This movie is almost a classic case of art direction gone amok. The somewhat amorphous Cruise doesn't lend much dramatic focus or artistic definition, but the drama between Tim Curry's satanic majesty and Mia Sara's character, who becomes a sort of princess of the netherworld, is pretty captivating. A mixed experience all around that makes one wish it had been more successful. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack stinks.......2007-07-04
Want to know why 73% of people who bought this DVD bought the Ultimate version next? Its becasue they (like me) didn't know they were getting the version with the Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack. His soundtrack STINKS! It ruined the entire movie. Not only that but this version has edited out the really cool scenes of Tim Curry in the black light---gone. Don't waste your money on this piece of garbage get the version with the great soundtrack from tangerine dream.
The Music was not the same as original........2007-05-29
The main reason I bought the movie was because of the original music that was in it. They have re-edited the whole movie with another soundtrack making it a totally different movie. It is just not as good a movie as my VHS tape of the original theatrical release. What happened to it?
A Classic Fairy Tale for All.......2007-05-21
Legend comes to DVD in this 2-disk set.The first disk being the director's cut,and the second disk being the U.S theatrical release. This is one of those "pick your poison" things were you either like the original theatrical release or prefer the film the way it was ment to be seen by the director or perhaps you like both?Personally,I despise the U.S theatrical release. The films are more or less the same but the directors cut is a bit longer. What kills the U.S release is the deplorable soundtrack. Its way too 80's and is a real annoyance,I depised it deeply.I prefer the directors cut.The original music score by far fits Legend much better,as do the additional extended scenes.Rob Botton who is noted for making some of the most realistic and best prostectic/mechanical effects really delivers as you can almost believe what you are seeing on screen. The over all art and design is as much a feast for the eyes as is the story line which was written almost as perfect as it could be. This is your "basic" fairy tale formula where good vs. evil and our hero(a very young Tom Cruise before he really was begining to get noticed)is sent on a quest to bring the world of light and dark back into balance instead of letting evil rule the land.Jack is sent to save the last Unicorn and to save the princess (Mia Sara) from eternal doom and damnation.I have always liked this film, even when the U.S release was that was available, but this 2-disk set is a real treat.I only wish that the sound was digitally re-mastered,but we can't have everything wee want, now can we?This is a DVD well worth owning, you do get two films in one plus some good featuretts about the making of the film and how it evolved to what we all see now.Legend is a classic, and there aren't too many films out there that can really claim such status.I highly reccomend this DVD over just the U.S release, good for the whole family(some intense scenes) but nothing too horribly graphic.Make Legend a part of your DVD collection, you can't go wrong.
Love The Goldsmith Score.......2007-05-09
The man was a GENIUS and I much prfer the director's cut version.
Nice trip into the past.......2007-05-08
I had never seen any history behind this overly artistic film, but always enjoyed it for what it was. It was nice to get some insight into the original story ideas, and some of the making of the film. The "deleted scenes" were just that, it didn't help progress the film, in my opinion.
It's just a good fantasy story, with the villian taking the spotlight, though this villian didn't like light at all...

My Neighbor Totoro is that rare delight, a family film that appeals to children and adults alike. While their mother is in the hospital, 10-year-old Satsuki and 4-year-old Mei move into an old-fashioned house in the country with their professor father. At the foot of an enormous camphor tree, Mei discovers the nest of King Totoro, a giant forest spirit who resembles an enormous bunny rabbit. Mei and Satsuki learn that Totoro makes the trees grow, and when he flies over the countryside or roars in his thunderous voice, the winds blow. Totoro becomes the protector of the two sisters, watching over them when they wait for their father, and carrying them over the forests on an enchanted journey. When the children worry about their mother, Totoro sends them to visit her via a Catbus, a magical, multilegged creature with a grin the Cheshire Cat might envy.
Unlike many cartoon children, Satsuki and Mei are neither smart-alecky nor cloyingly saccharine. They are credible kids: bright, energetic, silly, helpful, and occasionally impatient. Filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki makes the viewer believe the two sisters love each other in a way no American feature has ever achieved. My Neighbor Totoro is enormously popular in Japan, and some of the character merchandise has begun to appear in America. The film has also inspired a Japanese environmental group to buy a Totoro Forest preserve in the Saitama Prefecture, where Miyazaki's film is set. --Charles Solomon

Massively overrated.......2007-07-05
I heard such glowing things about this but when I finally rented and watched it, I was bored out of my mind. Perhaps it means something in the context of Japanese folklore that I missed, but for its own sake it's not particularly clever (reminds me of _Through the Looking Glass_ only far less complex). I don't care about the dubbing; it could be silent and the story would still be uninteresting.
I'm not a dedicated anime fan--I don't care who does the animation or in what style as long as the story is there--but I agree that the animation is really lovely.
Why would they do somethig like this?.......2007-07-02
A long time ago me and my family sat down and watched the original dub of My Neighbor Totoro. We were completly blown away. It became one of our all time favorite movies. It was so amazing, so different from anything we had ever seen. My little sister fell completely in love with it, and watched it whenever she had a chance.
When we saw this new special two-disk, digitally remastered set was relesed we didn't wait for a second to buy it. We popped it into the DVD player completely enthralled. We got about ten minutes into the movie before turning it off in complete disbelief and anger.
I can't understand why they would do something like this. Why would they take an amazing, wonderful piece of art and smash it into pieces? I have nothing against Dakota Fanning or her little sister, but their voice performances were NOTHING compared to the original. You get a COMPLETLY different experience watching this new version. I just couldn't understand why they would do something like this. The least they could have done was include the original dubbing, instead of leaving you to choose between a complete insult to Miyazaki or the japanese voices.
Why!?.......2007-06-28
Back last year (2006) I found the "Fox" release of this AMAZING movie in the $7.99 bin at a walmart. I grew up watching Totoro with my grandma and watching it in all its original glory was really touching. Then I loaned it to a friend who won't give it back. Needless to say, I bought the Disney "remastered" version 2 disc thing for a whopping $25 and I have to say... IM SO DISSAPOINTED! Why oh WHY did they think re-dubbing the voices was needed? I dispise the new dub. Its an abomination and insults the original. If you've seen the original, DO NOT BUY THIS. You will be devistated w/ Dakota & Elle Fannings voice acting. At times I even muted it because it was just so far from the original. If you can get your hands on the "Fox" release of the movie... DO. However, if you have never seen this movie or have young kids who havn't, I would say get it because even tho I know it super sucks, you won't cause you don't have anything to judge it against. As for me... Disney, you have truly left me heartbroken.
The Magic of Family.......2007-06-27
This heart warming Anime is full of the love of family and how understanding adults can bring out the best in their children. While magic and fantasy fill this movie, there is also a great role model for how a family should be.
Very good kid's movie.......2007-06-27
The movie captured kids behaviour very well. The characters are adorable. All our family loves it.

The Beast Within!.......2007-06-06
People say that everyone is wild on the inside, but I don't think that they had robots in mind. The "Transformers" are back and, in my opinion, better than ever! The Autobots and Decepticons are long gone. This story is about their descendents, the smaller, but just as powerful, Maximals and Predicons. The Predicons steal an ancient Golden Disc from the Maximals and try to get away, but they are chased by a Maximal exploration ship. Both of the ships do battle and, during the battle, both are sent back in time millions of years. Both ships crash down onto a strange planet that looks like Earth, and even has the same animals that Earth has, but the planet has TWO moons! All Transformers, both Predicon and Maximal, survive the crash, but there is a problem. The planet is toxic to them and in order to survive, they scan the bodies of animals in the area and take their forms for protection. Now, both sides try desperately to destroy the other in a war for survival...a war for honor...a war of beasts.
NOTE: Sorry for the long review, but when I start writing, I am hard to stop. Thanks for reading and I hope you purchase and enjoy "Beast Wars: The Complete First Season".
Beast Wars season 1.......2007-01-19
Excellent kid DVD. Great jokes and fun situations that these Predacons and Maximals get into. Wonderful voices for each character.
A fresh start to the transformers, the weekest of the 3 seasons, stories not tied together as much.......2007-01-19
When this came out in the mid-90s, I was suprised to catch it on one of the local channels early sunday mornings. Transformers were back, and at the time in really cool computer graphics. The Maximals, decendents of the ancient autobots, and the Predicons, decendents of the ancient decepticons, battle it out on a remote planet (found later to be earth). It is a fun story line watching the first season as they adapt to this new world. episodes 1-2 are tied together, then the other episodes are just kinda loose, no major storyline carried over episode to episode. As the season nears the end, and into the 2 and 3rd seasons, the stories get placed more into a continueing theme storyline. Looking at the computer animation now, it was kind of crude, even compared to the Beast machines episodes, but it was good at the time. So if you like the original transformers, I think you will addapt well to this cartoon series. Check it out, still affordable here on amazon and easy to get a entire series cheap.
Outstanding!.......2007-01-04
Like a few others I judged this show before I saw it almost ten years ago and didn't give it a chance. I decided to take a gamble, and behold another late fan. Before I was done watching the first disk I wasted no time ordering the 2nd, 3rd seasons and Beast Machines. Usually I dont trust the costumer reviews, but this is one time I'm glad I did. I wont include any spoilers in this review except the two iconic characters Prime and Megatron are both in this and their characters are still the same for the most part. The new look is cool, but the stories is the strong point. Excellent voice acting and the action scenes are very good. What I really like up to this point, there are NO human companions so far. So if your the type who gave up on Armada and Energon and those human companions annoyed the hell out of you. Then this is your dose of a good product worthy of the Transformers name. Highly recommended.
Beast Wars: First Steps.......2006-10-21
BW was getting its feet under it in the first season. That was readily apparent in the voice talent getting a feel for its respective characters, and CGI errors that weren't made later on.
Still, the first season is very solid. It shows the characters thinking their way out of tight spots, dealing with the realities of war, and also includes links to the original Transformers series. (I.E., the appearance of Starscream, mentions of the "Great War", and so on.)
***Spoilers***
One of my personal favorite episodes is "Dark Voyage." It shows Rhinox, Cheetor, Rattrap and Dinobot rendered blind, damaged and low on power in an Energon explosion. Under attack from Waspinator and Terrorsaur, Rhinox has his team "picture a targeting grid in your head, like the one we use in practice simulations." Using this technique, Rhinox is able to tell his team where to fire, and fight off the Preds. A perfect example of using your head when the usual methods don't work.
I recommend this for any tran fan, old and new. The CGI might take some getting used to, particularly if you're used to conventional animation, but once you do, the show will definitely stand out.

very nice.......2007-05-13
a true series a real tribute to the old transformers without the ruins of the new garbage
Great show, but wait for the Sony release.......2007-03-09
Beast Wars is one of the BEST television shows of the 1990s. The characters, the scope -- it's something rarely seen in television at all, let alone children's television.
This was the season that made the series. New characters born, tragic deaths and references to the vast history or the Transformers world. Mixing humor with the heavy drama, season 2 was a monument of television.
However this particular DVD release from Rhino home video presents the show in a dissapointing manner. The menus are hard to navigate, and there are NO SPECIAL FEATURES, except for about 30 seconds of test animation from season one.
Sony/BMG now owns the rights to the original Transformers cartoon, and is releasing it on DVD. Presumably, they will do the same with Beast Wars, since Rhino home video has gone out of bussiness. And if the Sony release of "Transformers: The Movie" (which came with several hours of special features)is any indication of what their Beast Wars release will be like, than it will indeed be worth waiting for.
The heart of the series is in this season, the development of storylines and action start here.......2007-01-19
As the first season wrapped up, the Beast wars series was starting to hit its stide. The stories were good, episodes started to flow together, and characters were developing. The second season continues this and expands even more. This is my favorite string of episodes. I caught the series just at the end of this season, which hooked me for the third season. In the second season you get more plot and ongoing stories, and lots of action. And the tie in to the original transformer's series, briliant. Ravage was a cool addition to the plot, a cassette still, but now a mercenary that speak. It looks like other reviewers have done the plot summaries already for this season. All I can say it that it was the episodes in this season that got me hooked for the third season. Check this set out transformer fans, affordable and fun.
If you dont own this, then you dont like Transformers.......2007-01-10
Man, this is easily one of the best collections I own, and I own a lot. I cant believe that Beast Wars was this good. This is by far the best of the seasons. All the characters and new ones are developed. It has great action. But the stories is the strongest point. I will not spoil anything for you in this review. If your a fan of TF and haven't seen this because you thought the concept of them being animals was stupid, then you are missing out on probably the best series in the Transformers franchise. All 3 seasons are highly recommended.
Amazing 2nd season.......2006-05-06
Probably the best all round season of all the transformers saga. The characters and plots are taken to the next level and the ongoing storylines are animation are amazing. The only drawback are some of the new beast modes (I am sure the were just bending to the needs of the toy manufacturers) as some of them were just not good. This is the season that all others should be held up to.

It's worth it.......2007-04-21
If you have kids, they will love this show. It has it all, animals, robots, love stories, good guys vs bad guys, and humor. It's a great story line, and a great cast.
Great Stuff.......2007-01-28
If you like the original transformers then you will love the action that Beastwars will bring you. I was very pleased with all of the seasons
Beast Wars Transformers - The Complete Third Season.......2007-01-21
i remember years ago when they had it on tv and all our kids just talk about, we ever got to see the end of the show.
i give it a four star rating because i think the ending could have been longer. any how it was well worth the money, now i have all three season.
The best season of the beast wars, exciting ending, wish it went longer........2007-01-19
This is the season I really got into the beast wars series. It was always on early sunday mornings on one of my local channels. It writes the final chapter in the beast wars...or does it? Great action and stories. This season introduces a couple of new characters, transmetal 2. I feel that it just ended abbruptly, with the middle episodes just being Kinda blah, but the beginning and end were good. Check out Transformers: Beast Machines if you liked this series, especially this season...Beast machines is addictive to watch, and continues a fresh series with tie in to this one. Enjoy.
Kick a** collection.......2007-01-10
If you own the first 2 seasons then you probably already ordered this one. This collection ends the beast wars. I wont spoil anything as usual. I hate spoilers. I'll just say you won't be disappointed with this final season. The stories are great and the action is very good. I love this series. I just wish it could have lasted a little bit longer. Highly recommended.

In Jamaican patois, a gangster is a "shotta" or "shot-caller." Like The Harder They Come and Third World Cop, Cess Silvera choreographs his crime drama to a reggae beat. Bob Marley's son Stephen provides the music, while Wyclef Jean drops by as a dealer. The saga begins in late-1970s Kingston. Teenagers Biggs (J.R. Silvera) and Wayne (Carlton Grant Jr.) have had their fill of poverty, so they get a gun and start looting and shooting like the shottas they idolize. Flash forward 20 years and Biggs (Stephen's actor/musician brother, Kymani Marley) has just been deported from the States. He picks up where he left off, joining Wayne (DJ Spragga Benz) and the psychopathic Mad Max (Paul Campbell, Dancehall Queen) in the thug life. As with Pacino's Tony Montana, Miami is their ultimate port of call. Silvera acknowledges the debt to Brian De Palma's Scarface, but there isn't as much drama here--just a lot of violence (spurting blood is a running motif). Cinematographer Cliff Charles uses all manner of visual trickery to lively up the joint, like grainy black and white, slow motion, and jump cuts. The soundtrack also helps to keep things moving, but it's hard to feel sympathy for those who feel no sympathy for anyone but themselves. Vicious as he was, Montana still had a smidgen of sensitivity. As with The Harder They Come, this English-language production is subtitled due to strong accents and pervasive slang. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

In the tradition of Scarface and The Harder They Come, Shottas is an unapologetic raw urban drama about two friends raised on the dangerous streets of Kingston, Jamaica. Biggs (Kymani Marley) and Wayne (Spragga Benz) take on the "shotta" (Jamaican term for gangster) way of life to survive. As young boys, they begin a life of crime, eventually moving to the U.S., where they begin a ruthless climb from the bottom to the glittering top of a criminal enterprise in a Miami filled with fast cars and gorgeous women. The two men remain fiercely bound by their shottas loyalty as they aggressively take control of the Jamaican underworld.

Customer Reviews:
You have to come better than this! Really disapointed despite the hype.......2007-05-20
Shottas was passed around more times in swap meets, flea markets, and your local corner store so much it became an underground ghetto classic. For all the hype its a big disapointment, and I am glad I did not waste my $19.99 or even $10.00 for the bootleg. I often wonder if everybody endorses this movie primarily because everybody else likes it.
Certain tibits might be gleaned about street life and even the dope game, but its riddled with cliches to the point it becomes too over-the-top. How about making a realistic movie about Shotta culture without comprimising the quality?
Even The Harder They Come, which I didn't particulary like, was done better with a smaller budget for the era.
the saving graces of Shottas was both Louie Rankin and Paul Campbell. Paul Campbell who played Mad Max deserves more screen time and could should play chracters in better movies. Louie Rankin, although a punk in this movie, provided the few moments of comic relief and entertainment in the movie. The next Guy Ritchie produced film entitled RudeBwoy would benefit from the pressence of both actots, and especially Rankin.[just a suggestion if you reading this Mr. Ritchie which I doubt you are but whatever]
I wish the director Cess Silvera much luck in the future but if you expect me to support your film projects please come better than this. We already have The Harder They Come, and there can only be one Scarface,so please make an original film. Otherwise, I will keep my hard earned $19.99 for much better movie choices.
SHOTTAS "Definately a classical film".......2007-05-12
The authenticity of this film is outstanding and gives you a perfect look of a Shotta's life in Jamica. Shottas keeps the full attention of the viewer with intense scenes that will certainly leave you talking to your friends about for months.
This film is recommended for any 'Gangsta' or 'Shotta' movie lover. Even people who would like an inside look of life in the ghetto and what is necessary to elevate from the slums to the american dream. This movie is similar to scarface.
de greatest.......2007-05-12
This is de truest shotta business. One to watch! Better than any movie mi ever see bout shotta business. This a jamaican affair about top shottas and if there is a second part mi will buy it any day. It's intense, tough and hotta than fire. Kymani Marley,Spragga Benz(de real thuggie),Louie Rankin and the real mad, tough&wickedest actor Paul Campbell should be awarded for best actors fi di year. The plot was remarkable and one to remember!!!
Loved It.......2007-04-30
Loved it, Great movie..it shows the grimy hard life in Jamaica, not the white sand and pretty beaches. When they went to Miami it got much better too,I wish there was a soundtrack for it because I liked the music. Can't wait to see the sequeal!!
Pointless Jamaican shootup.......2007-04-21
Two poor Jamaican youths decide to rob a vendor to get some money. The rest of the movie is a mindless repetition of Jamaicans stealing and killing each other, both in Jamaica and America. It never rises above a third-rate in plot, acting, characterizations, or special effects.

Pooh's Heffalump Movie introduces a lovable new character to the Hundred Acre Wood. When mysterious noises spook Pooh, Piglet, and the others, Rabbit explains that everyone will have to band together to track down the dreaded Heffalump. Well, everyone, that is, except Roo, who's too small for the task. Not surprisingly, it's Roo who makes first contact, and he quickly finds out that first impressions aren't always true. You can see the Big Messages coming from a mile off (Xenophobia is bad! Don't underestimate little kids!), and one moment of mischief curiously passes without even requiring an apology. But kids will be charmed by the Heffalump and may even connect with the empowerment/maturity themes. Among the voice cast, Jim Cummings does knockout impressions of Sterling Holloway and Paul Winchell as the voices of Pooh and Tigger, respectively, and Carly Simon's songs are at their best when she sings them herself. --David Horiuchi
Description
Straight from the theaters, it's a grand scale animated feature that is as exciting as it is charming, where friendship, understanding, and adventure abound as Winnie the Pooh and his friends learn that things are not always as they appear. A quiet day in the Hundred Acre Wood quickly grows mysterious when a strange sound echoes through the trees -- a sound that can only be . . . a Heffalump! While the friends devise, Roo sets off into the Wood and discovers a Heffalump named Lumpy. To Roo's great surprise, Heffalumps are quite friendly and playful. After meeting Lumpy, Roo wonders why the others are so frightened and why Lumpy is so afraid of Roo's friends. Upon discovering their new friendship, Roo and Lumpy's loved ones realize that Heffalumps are nothing to fear at all. Filled with humor, heart, and Heffalumps, this warm and wonderful adventure is great fun for the entire family.
Customer Reviews:
Sweet and suspenseful!.......2007-05-27
Pooh movies are still as sweet as they have ever been. My children "5" & "7" still love watching them. This one is suspenseful as we wait to see what a Heffalump really is and what it will look like. The Pooh movies always have a good teaching lesson in them as well and great music.
My daughter says 5 stars.......2007-03-22
The strongest friendships can spring up in unexpected ways and this story of Roo and Lumpy is a lovely one for showing that to young children. The heart of the movie is about their friendship and how each one grows from that experience. My 4 year old daughter has been enjoying this movie for a year. And I enjoyed the chance to share and talk about it with her.
My daughter really relates to it and gets into the story. I'm thankful she has a movie that seems to be aimed at her age group. She especially enjoys singing along during the main song, "Shoulder to Shoulder". And she likes to sing the lullaby "Little Mister Roo" too. I remember Carly Simon's work in the 70's but I am very grateful to her for her work on this and Piglet's BIG Movie.
This film is not perfect though. People who are really into Milne's original work will likely be disappointed. But the adult viewer is not the main targeted audience.
Some reviewers writing about "mixed messages" have very valid points, but some of the points are off target. For example, Lumpy doesn't go to his mom when she first calls, but we do see him pay a severe price for that in the sad emotions he feels while he looks for her. My daughter shed a few tears when Lumpy missed his "mummy". Obviously I talk about these scenes with my daughter. She understands the scenes yet it isn't traumatic for her and this plot device holds her attention.
My daughter knows that these are animated, pretend characters on the screen and while she can relate to the fun the friends have together, this movie does not supply her with an inspiring role model. Perhaps that is just her personality or perhaps some reviewers are a little overboard on that point.
I found the extra features only moderately interesting and my daughter only likes to look occasionally at the game.
The exuberance far outshines the sad parts of the movie. And even with all its Hollywood formulas and imperfections, I look at the delight on my daughter's face and have to give it 5 stars.
Starts out magically, but then..........2007-01-02
The movie begins with refreshing humor that alleviates the weight of the predictable character roles. It also makes an attempt to show how ridiculous it is to make assumptions, be fear driven, or dislike others because they're different. These parts of the movie, as well as the songs, are very delightful. This movie also allows us to see the valuable message of watching out for hypocricy. This irony is portrayed by Tigger (who started the prejudices towards Heffalumps in the first Winnie the Pooh movie). Here he is leading the bandwagon against the Heffalump who is just as guilty of trashing other characters' homes and gardens as he himself is!
However, I feel there are two other areas that are important to address. Roo, who normally is a very trusting and gentle lad towards his mother, steps out of character and intentionally disobeys her by sneaking away at dawn. He and the Heffalump also, instead of taking responsibility for their unintended disaster, go on and leave Pooh's house trashed and then embark on destroying Rabbit's garden without blinking.
It bothered my children to see Roo in such a self-serving, thoughtless role and it bothered me that the consequences of him sneaking away were glamourized to be safe ones. If your children are of a strong conscience or at an age where they'd identify with Roo and possibly role play his character choices then I would reccomend discussing these issues with them. For us his choices lowered the movie's potential as a character building resource.
MY KIDS LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!.......2006-12-16
Ignoring the change in story-line and misspelled words in bad reviews of this movie, my 2 and 4 year olds love this movie, it's barely over an hour long, about the attention span of toddlers, and the characters are as lovable as ever, though I wish Eeyore had more onscreen time!! We have pretty much been watching this movie every other day for TV time for almost 2 months now and hope the Heffalump character stays in the lineup, and Carly Simon keeps singing the tunes in the movie!!
Great movie!.......2006-11-07
This is a very sweet movie. Our whole family enjoyed it. I would recommend it to anyone.
