Martin Sheen's 1991 directorial debut features Sheen as the disturbed head of a military stockade where the prisoners include a troublemaking Army misfit played by his son Charlie. Private Bean (Charlie Sheen) is thrown into the stockade with a group of five blacks calling themselves the Soul Patrol, and gradually learns teamwork from the men, including their leader Stokes (Laurence Fishburne). Eventually the tug of war between Bean and the bigoted commander reaches a boiling point with tragic conclusions, and Bean learns the meaning of compassion and the difference between right and wrong. The film is nothing particularly inspiring or insightful, but the supporting players, including Fishburne, give solid performances, and Cadence affords the audience a chance to see the father and son team work together in an earnest and well-meaning drama. --Robert Lane

Description

Martin Sheen makes his directorial debut with this prison drama set on a United States army base in West Germany during the 1960s. As punishment for drunken, rebellious behavior, a young white soldier is thrown into a stockade populated entirely by black inmates. But instead of falling victim to racial hatred, the soldier joins forces with his fellow prisoners and rises up against the insanely tyrannical and bigoted prison warden.

4 out of 5 stars it's okay.......2007-07-01

The movie is okay, which puts it above and beyond a lot of "movies" out there. It has it's: slow moments, scenes that really don't add anything to the story, memorable lines, strong points. Basically, I'ld rent it before I bought it.

the movie was clear and crisp just as if it just came out for the first time i recieved the movie quickly and packed excellently

4 out of 5 stars Cadence.......2007-05-15

I didn't get the video for myself. It was a gift for a friend, But I can honestly tell you, that I have seen the movie and it is a very good movie! Sometimes I wish I would have kept the movie for myself, but I had promised a friend I would give them the video as a gift.

4 out of 5 stars A movie with heart.......2007-05-14

I first saw Cadence over 10 years ago and have only now acquired it on DVD. The movie has a simple but compact plot that really works for me and I believe the interaction between the prisoners and their new room mate (Charlie Sheen)was very well put together.

The "Cadence" they march to when going to work detail or chow is an integral part of the story and the action that goes with it will make you smile. The story line wasn't full of intrigue or special effects. It is about a group of prisoners in a Military stockade, their guards and their Commander (Martin Sheen) and their day to day life. Throw in a project to fix a windmill and the Guard Commander with problems of his own and you have a movie well worth watching.

5 out of 5 stars CADENCE.......2006-04-04

CADENCE is an absolutely amazing movie. It is one of my all time favorites. No matter how many times you watch it, you'll never get sick of it.

CADENCE is a very interesting movie. The movie takes place predominantly in a military camp. Private Bean (Charlie Sheen) is placed in a military prison blockade. In the beginning he struggles to fit in with his new roommates. As the movie progresses, they become close friends regardless of their different skin color.

Now Private Bean's struggle is no longer how to fit in with the rest of the guys. His problem is now trying to survive the personal war launched against them by the blockade commander (Martin Sheen).

CADENCE has many interesting twists and turns that will grab your heart each time you watch it. Interestingly enough, the military prisoners are portrayed as the "good guys." This adds further suspense to this movie.

This is one of the greatest movies I've ever seen. It'll have you singing the military prisoner's cadence march long after you're done watching it. The cadence in CADENCE is a trademark of this movie.

Watch CADENCE. You'll love it!
