Excellent picture quality, great story, pleasing dialog. DVD extras are wonderful and easy-to-use, should motivate further study. "I could see lots of areas of inquiry for kids: wild dogs, exploration, sledding, dog training, music, carpentry." The children especially liked the interactive material. "Everything was wonderful, but I wanted more." "It was interesting to know about the author because I might like to read some of her other books." "We loved the story. We laughed, we cried, and we cheered." Best for ages 8 to 12.

There's a film out there that combines teen themes with the white-knuckle adventure of a life-and-death struggle in the wilderness, that augments great acting with a brilliant script and top-notch production values. "White Wolves - Cry in the Wild II" is not that film. Instead, it's a poorly assembled movie that is most notable for its baffling scenes and characterizations - some that will make you scratch your head and others that will make you burst out laughing.

White Wolves starts innocently enough, with a crew of rowdy teens embarking on a camping trip with woodsman and role model Mr. B (Matt McCoy) as their guide. But after some mountaintop horseplay goes awry, Mr. B falls approximately twenty thousand feet to the ground below, crashing through trees and caroming off of boulders on his way down -- and somehow survives. Believe me when I say that this is easily the funniest plummet I have seen in a film since Sly lost his grip on that girl in "Cliffhanger".

The teens have to rescue Mr. B, and each has his or her own style, which leads to frequent clashes. Scott (Zach Morris) is an authoritarian thug who almost murders dweeby Adam (David Moscow) in a rage. Cara (Amy Dolenz) is distraught when Mr. B's accident seriously cuts into her flirting schedule. Benny (Marc Riffon) is a malcontent delinquent who can hardly function without his father figure. And Pandra (Amy O'Neill) is the weirdest one of all, as demonstrated by a "romantic" scene in which she and Adam confess their attraction to each other. It's quite possibly one of the strangest moments of teen love ever captured on film.

Just when you think this movie can't get any more weirdly, bizarrely entertaining, with ghostly white wolves appearing and disappearing and Mark-Paul Gosselaar ranting and raving, the kids get attacked by a BEAR!! You need to watch this scene in slow motion, which is where its fakeness and sheer absurdity really shines through.

"White Wolves - Cry in the Wild II" is so bad it's good, and by that I mean it's awesome.

White Wolve is the Sequel To A Cry In The Wild. This movie is very moving,. It is the best people agianst Nature movie i saw. I really enjoyed this movie. It is great for kids and enjoyable.

The Plot. This movie is about a group of Students Who goes on a camping trip and Thier Teacher Mr. B Accedintally falls off a mountaine and hurts himself. Now they haveto surrvive The Wilderness untile they find help.

Over all I would recommend A Cry in the Wild 2 for family viewing. While there are a lot of holes in the story, it has an 80's feel with the clothing and hair styles (offputting to preteens and teenagers) and some lame special effects it does have some wonderful scenery, good storyline and a strong message about taking on responsiblity and challenges. There is a brief reference to a plane crash that leads one to believe this is a sequel to Hatchet (or A Cry in the Wild 1 based on Hatchet). Kid's who have read Hatchet will enjoy that connection.

I am a 5th grade teacher, and my children loved this movie. We watched it to go along with the book Hatchet. It is very interesting and has nothing that any parents will object to having their kids watch.

this was the worst dvd ever created maybe if there were a few more explosions and car chases it would have been better but this was just plain bad. This and snake eyes were the only dvds i ever fell asleep in the middle of. People who buy this should have their heads checked.

This movie is NOT the movie of the same title based on Gary Paulsen's book, "Hatchet". Despite the identical titles, this movie is based on a very real abduction and manhunt in 1963, in central Pennsylvania. Both were released on TV in 1990, but this movie had the subtitle "The Taking of Peggy Ann." It is a very accurate account of the kidnapping of teenager Peggy Ann Bradnick, and the ensuing search that cost the life of FBI agent Terry Anderson (played by David Soul) before the kidnapper, William Hollenbaugh, was killed by the police.

The "Hatchet" "Cry" is available in DVD from Amazon. The "Peggy Ann" "Cry" is only out in VHS.

This movie is NOT appropriate for 5th grade students.......2006-05-07

I rented the movie to show to my students after we read the novel. It cut out most of the good stuff from the book, had cussing in it, and was awful. Needless to say, I didn't let the kids watch it. We just got into groups, chose our favorite scenes and worked up minidramas to act out. Don't buy this movie.

I havent seen the actuall movie, however, I think its best to rent the movie and also read the book first, I have read the book and it is very good so I sugest to rent the movie and when I do see the movie I will post how it doffers and wich is better. Also the book is rich in detail and jugging by the book I bet the movie will be very good

Well, the book was definitely a lot better.... I did not like how there was so much swearing in the whole thing!! There are so many other elementary and middle school teachers showing this movie to kids... I do not think it is an appropriate movie for kids like me. We should not have to listen to swearing like that in school!!!

My two other partners and I agree, that the movie "Cry in the Wild" was not the movie of the year. Hatchet the book was a million times better than the movie that seemed as if it came out of a dumpster. There weren't as many details as there were in the book. For instance they didn't include the moose attack, which was one of our favorite parts in the novel. Another thing that took the zest out of it was there were way to many differences. If you hate movies that don't have the main characters close to the ones described in the books forget it. And the movie seemed pretty quiet because they didn't express his thoughts. If you still want to see this movie, completely denying our review go ahead, but rent it. Don't waste this much money on it. We give it 1 star. And that's being generous!

A Cry in the Wilderness.......2000-06-16

This TV movie first aired in 1974, but it is not in the least bit dated. It's the story of a family of three who have just moved from their comfortable life in Chicago to a run-down farm in the wilds of Oregon. When the father, played by George Kennedy, is bitten by a rabid skunk, he chains himself to a post in the barn and sends his wife (Joanna Pettet) in the pickup truck to bring back a doctor...if it's not already too late! In the meantime, young son Gus (Lee H. Montgomery) is charged with keeping up the chores and bringing food to Dad in the barn. Mom has all sorts of problems getting to a doctor, and it's in this part of the story that we meet a range of secondary characters, mostly bad guys, and it seems like she will never make it. Not helping things any is the fact that heavy rains are building up a huge volume of water behind a tangle of trees and rocks upstream from the farm, putting Dad and Gus in mortal danger. But Gus has previously been told in no uncertain terms not to believe anything his chained up father says to him because of the possibility of madness brought on by the rabies, and so Gus doesn't believe his father about the flood danger.

This is a typical TV movie -- entertaining but not a great classic. You can tell it's made for TV by the periodic fade outs for commercial breaks. These do not detract from enjoyment of the DVD. Best thing about this DVD is the superb picture quality. It's full frame, and that's the way it was photographed, so you get lots of nice sharp detail and excellent color. Anyone who is a fan of George Kennedy, Joanna Pettet, or Lee H. Montgomery will love this DVD.

Unintentionally hilarious.......2000-05-12

This is a hokey, dated, low-budget quasi-drama which crumbles despite a potentially interesting premise: a possibly rabid man ties himself to a post. Unfortunately, high jinx ensue, and whatever drama could have existed is obscured by child anti-star Gus' stereotypically bad acting and shaggy (anti)haircut. My favorite scenes are when Gus brings blankets (for no apparent reason) and gets socked in the kisser. The hallucinatory scene where the guy gets attacked by a Davy Crockett hat takes the cake though. Truly one of the funniest bits ever captured on film. Inconsequential sideplots abound, naturally... and what a conclusion!

Talk about a hizantz movie. This is it!!! Think about the situation they are put in. A teenage guy and girl stranded out in the middle of no where. And they only have to walk 200 miles to find this tiny ranger station in the middle of the great wide open. How can it get better then that. O wait I know, the wolf. This wolf is the poo so take a wiff.

The Hatchet.......2000-03-03

This movie is closely based on Gary Paulen's excellent book The Hatchet. I'm not sure why they changed the title, since they kept so much of the plot. It is about a boy whose plane crashes into a lake in the middle of the wilderness, and he survives using his wits and the tool for which the book is named.
