Wonderful story that empowers woman! It is a very fresh, fun, an inspiring story! The acting of all the characters is incredible. I love to see Fernando Colunga! The editing is very well done, excellent job!

I loved this novela when I was younger... and when I found out that I could buy the DVD set I was ecstatic. But when you buy this much shorter version, you lose a lot of detail. I decided to surf the net and I found a great website "Novelas R Us" that contains the complete novelas. I just bought Corazon Salvaje (on 20 DVDs) and am going to buy this one (on 19 DVDs). The best thing about it is that they are only 65 dollars each (considering that you get only a few hours for 20 bucks). I can't wait to receive it.

Although, some people prefer the shorter versions, I like the longer ones because of the details that are missed in the shorter ones. This novela should be enjoyed in detail and I am certainly going to shop for other favorite novelas of mine.

La Usurpadora was a good novela, but it was edited too much. Gaby Spanic is excellent! She plays twin sisters, one good, the other bad. Fernando Colunga , Chantal Andere, Arturo Peniche are worth watching also. The story was cut up so badly, now all I want is to see the complete novela! Plus, there's no subtitles at all. Therefore, this is not a classic DVD, but it is a classic novela. I feel I would not recommend it, it's been hacked to pieces! And no subtitles! I want complete novelas!

I LIKE THIS TELENOVELAS VERY MUCH, especially the acting of Gabriela which i think very great since she must play two role..the story itself was great and not confusing.i have seen this in complete series when it was air on the televesion, but when i was thinking to buy this dvd in order to collected it.. i found that it was totally cut too many scene which i think was important and thats right NO ENGLISH SUBTITLE at all! i have try to play it on player & computer but still no subtitle, so please please to amazon and the xenon or televisa people..please make the complete series and added with subtitle, i'm sure that there are many fan's who wants to buy and collect this telenovela, not even just this one but for the rest telenovelas too. we wont be mine to pay more for that.
afterall i really enjoy this telenovelas and still looking to buy another telenovelas.. so thankfull if they will soon released the complete series of LA USURPADORA.

Pedro Infante is magnificent in this film, in which he plays 3 very different characters. #1, Rafael Lara (father), a down and out singer who can't find work and struggles to take care of his wife and twin sons; #2, Rafael Lara (son), a happy go lucky fellow following in his father's footsteps as singer, and full of life and love, whose only anxiety is knowing that his mother has kept a lifelong secret from him. #3, Carlos Iturbe (Gabriel Lara), who has grown up a millionaire, doesn't suspect Rafael is his brother, and has disdain for those "below him" socially. Fate ties them together again, as the brothers fall in love with the same woman, and the tightly woven web unravels. The saga begins as Rafael finds a baby abandoned in a churchyard on a bitterly cold night, and brings the baby home, not realizing that he could be implicated as accomplice in a kidnapping plot. The complex story unfolds from there, with the theme of class injustice and wealth vs. poverty, and holds our interest with brilliant acting and singing, and an excellent script co-written by director Miguel Zacarias.

Libertad Lamarque gives a luminous performance as Maria de Lara, and from her Argentine roots we hear her renditions of 2 great Carlos Gardel tangos. The film also features several Agustin Lara songs, with a marvelous dance number to his "Farolito." Others in the fine cast include Irma Dorantes as Isabel, and Arturo Soto Rangel as Don Lorenzo. Though there are no landscapes for Gabriel Figueroa's famed cinematography, his atmospheric interiors are beautiful. "Ansiedad" is a special film for Infante and Lamarque fans, and one that can be enjoyed time and time again. No subtitles are available. The songs are an integral part of the plot, and are:

In this 1955 movie, Pedro Infante and Libertad Lamarque played Javier Prado and Laura Galvan respectively. Javier is engaged to his business partner's daughter, Ana Maria. Ana Maria is a student at Laura's school of music for young ladies. The school, however, is in financial trouble and soon Laura and her staff are left on the street with only their instruments and their wits. To earn a living, they decide to form an orchestra and move to Monterrey to play at a restaurant owned by an uncle of one of the teachers. Ana Maria joins the group. Since she does it without the permission of her father, he sends Javier to bring her back. Javier is a timid, mild-mannered man but when he drinks alcohol he becomes at his best, decisive; at his worst, rude and stubborn. It is when he is in this Mr. Hyde-like persona that he clashes with Laura. But they must bear with each other and become partners since it is their singing that makes the orchestra a success in the little restaurant in Monterrey and thorough the country later.
My parents' generation must have enjoyed this movie a lot. But in spite of its years, Escuela de Musica can still get some laughs from the audience. I liked the scene in which Laura and Javier are yet in another fight but this time they mock each other's style of singing. And I could hum along such songs as "Alma Llanera", and "A Media Luz" because I grew up listening to the "newer" versions sung by singers like Julio Iglesias.
The transfer of the movie to the DVD (this version released by Zach Motion Pictures) is not a very good one because the film is showing its age and is in need of cleaning and restoration. Also, there are no English subtitles. Still, I found this movie in the $5.50 DVD bin at one of the local Wal-Marts and for that money, it was not a bad buy at all.

This DVD has 3 great movies of the late and great singer and actress Libertad Lamarque. For those of us who grew up watching her films, we know that the majority of her films were TEARJERKERS!
The first "ROSAS BLANCAS PARA MI HERMANA NEGRA" (my personal favorite) has to do with two friends who each have a daughter. One friend is white, the other is black. I will not ruin the movie by giving you the plot except to say that it is a very touching film so get out your hankies before watching this one.
The second film is "LA LOCA DE LOS MILAGROS". In this film she doesn't accept the death of her daughter and makes her friends believe that her daughter is alive and well in Guadalajara. When her singing career takes her to Guadalajara, everyone wants to meet her daughter.
The third film is "EL HIJO PRODIGO" is about a man who is forced to pass himself as the son of a very rich singer to gain her fortune.
A great set of Libertad Lamarque at a great price!
