The letterbox edition of this film on video certainly pays tribute to the pageantry of Cukor's set, but it also underscores a certain visual stiffness that can slow viewer enthusiasm just a tad. But it's really star wattage that keeps this film exciting, that and such great songs as "On the Street Where You Live" and "I Could Have Danced All Night." Actor Jeremy Brett, who gained a huge following later in life portraying Sherlock Holmes, is quite electric as Eliza's determined suitor. --Tom Keogh

Way Over-Rated, and Often VERY Unpleasant!.......2007-06-29

Yes, it is a nice Cinderella story, and Audrey plays a fine role.There is an excellent message about the ingrained Brit Class System circa 1910..And there are some nice costumes, mainly women's hats, at the Horse race..Add to this a few memorable songs..So what is the problem with this ? Mainly, the near- nauseating character of Higgins, an old fashioned snob and misogynist of the ugliest type, who we have to watch sneer and scold for the better part of two hours! Not pretty! True, Pickering is a nice counterpoint, and really a decent old chap, but Higgins is the main character, and to watch and listen to this old goat goes well beyond a pleasant way to spend time! The song and dance numbers are hardly even third rate. Any comparison with a 1940's-50's MGM musical puts this one to shame! No dancing to speak of, and very low production quality..Then again, this was Warner, not known for musicals!..And there is a claustrophic sense here that says , "How can I get away from this miserable phonetics teacher?" It's near impossible..I can think of at least 30 musicals far and away above this, not just MGM, but Fred and Ginger, and so forth..In fact, 3-stars may be too kind for this one, since it is way below the hype!..Also, check out the 1930's PYGMALION with Wendy Hiller and Leslie Howard, and you can easily see how almost the entire movie (MY FAIR LADY) was completely taken from PYGMALION, including the sets and dialogue..About the only thing new is the songs, which are fun and amusing, but not really in the top tier of great musical tunes.

I had not watched this marvelous movie for many years when I took the opportunity to watch it again. The movie is a little stiff in places, but that stiffness seemed, to me, to enhance the formality of English high society. Audrey Hepburn belies that stiffness with her free-spirited characterization of Eliza Doolittle. Eliza contrasts nicely with Henry Higgin's mother, played by veteran actor Gladys Cooper ("The Happiest Millionaire," "The Song of Bernadette," and "The List of Adrian Messenger"). Mrs. Higgins is quite proper and perfect in every situation. Henry, played by the incomparable Sir Rex Harrison, is disdainful and aloof. Henry believes he is the remote scientific observer who can categorize and stereotype everyone, and is not affected by his surroundings.

A problem arises when Henry Higgins bets Colonel Pickering (Wilfrid Hyde-White, "Ten Little Indians" (1965) and "In Search of the Castaways") that he could take anyone, such as Eliza Doolittle, and turn them into something like a lady's maid or a shop girl. Colonel Pickering takes Henry up on his bet, volunteering to finance the experiment.

Looking at the next part of this movie with five decades of life, I quickly saw the problem that Henry was getting into. Henry was taking a human life adjusted to a certain set of surroundings, modifying that life so that it no longer fit in, and was then prepared to cast that life adrift once he proved his point. Henry failed to see that he did anything wrong, and therein lies the irony and pathos of this movie. The question a first-time watcher asks is whether Henry will be able to grow up at last and realize that people require compassion and empathy and are more than science experiments.

In addition to a marvelous story, this movie boasts wonderful music and excellent sets. Though some of Audrey Hepburn's singing survived, Marni Nixon sang most of the music attributed to Hepburn. Nixon's singing was phenomenal and her singing voice is close enough to Hepburn's that it sounds as though Hepburn could be singing.

Other singing numbers contained extensive choreography on expansive sets. Two complexly choreographed songs that come to mind are "Get Me to the Church on Time" and the "Ascot Gavotte."

This movie featured an array of sets depicting street scenes and interior scenes. Though the street scenes were excellent, my favorite set in the movie has always been Henry Higgin's incredible library. I would love to have his library in my house, though duplicating that library would be incredibly expensive.

This movie won 20 awards, which includes eight Oscars. Rex Harrison won the Best Actor Oscar and the movie won the Best Picture Oscar, both highly coveted awards. Harrison won many other awards for this film, and "My Fair Lady" became the most awarded movie of 1965.

Of course, awards do not necessarily mean a film is either good or great. However, Rex Harrison, Audrey Hepburn and Wilfrid Hyde-White have such incredible acting skills and such screen presence that they make this film a joy to watch. I was spell-bound as I watched Audrey Hepburn become Eliza Doolittle and capture the hearts of everyone in the movie. Rex Harrison was incredible as Henry Higgins. This movie was either Harrison's best, or one of his best.

The story is also captivating. Henry Higgins experiments with the life of a human being. What Henry Higgins failed to realize is that once he became involved with his subject, he lost his objectivity and learned compassion. Love can come from compassion. The only thing that surprised me in this viewing of the movie is that I previously had not realized how early in the movie that Eliza Doolittle had come to love Henry Higgins.

"My Fair Lady" is one of the best musicals of all time. The combination of story, acting, singing and sets is amazing. Fans of musicals and love stories will enjoy this movie, even on multiple viewings.

Does not work!.......2007-04-11

The DVD does not work in Ireland so it is absolutely useless!! I should have been made aware of this when I was purchasing the product. I would like to be refunded in full for the three DVDs I have purchased: My Fair Lady, Paris when it Sizzles and Breakfast at Tiffanys (purchased at the same time)
Also the packaging costs were not displayed until i had entered my credit card number and were much too expensive.
Overall i am extremely disappointed with my experience and I expect to be compensated for this.

One of the great modern love stories, the charming "Annie Hall" has Allen essentially playing himself, with Keaton's sweet, spacy Annie providing an inspired foil. Aside from its examination of contemporary relationships, the movie hilariously contrasts the flavor and essence of New York with sunny, hip Los Angeles, that sprawl on the West Coast which, to Allen's mind, is definitely alien territory. Touching, true, and extremely funny, this is Woody's peak.

This film marks the pinnacle of Woody's career, introducing the main themes later rehearsed to death in subsequent projects. A self-conscious neurotic quippy self-flagellating Jewish comedian meets a juicy self-conscious WASP, wooing her, rejecting her and after being rejected himself longing for a life that could have been. There is always an aura of sadness about Allen's films - a sadness of masculinity longed for and never realized, of self-contempt burning in someone who knows he can't ever escape the intellectual mindtrap that epitomizes the 'New Yorker' crowd. While Allen appears to despise the greed, snobbery and pretentiousness of this crowd, he always seems paralyzed and unable to find his way out of the mousetrap.

Annie Hall is a genuinely funny and profound film. Alvyn knows the New Yorker crowd lacks something that would fulfill his longing. He knows that 'Annie' represents his one chance to escape the straightjacket of empty intellectual poseurism. The self-revelatory autobiographical element are bittersweet as the viewer becomes all too aware that Alvyn fails the challenge of his life. the very character trait that makes him funny makes him incapable of being able to hold, endure and accept Annie for who she is . The film is, for me, a lesson showing how not to be a man. A demonstration of the consequences of not being able to love fully, of being unable to disappear into surrender.

Both Keaton and Allen do a fantastic acting job basically playing themselves. While Allen never surpasses the quirkines, the bittersweet lightness of the Annie Hall's Alvyn character, Keaton's best moments come in "Looking for Mr. Goodbar" made in the same year.

Separating the "Horrible and the Miserable".......2007-06-17

Before 'Borat' Borat - Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (Widescreen Edition) confronted anti-Semitism, and Seinfeld Seinfeld - Season 7 did brilliant comedy about "nothing," 'Annie Hall' said a great deal about a lot of things of varying magnitude in this funny Woody Allen movie masterpiece. Taking place, of course, in New York City, Allen's nearly autobiographical alter ego, Alvy Singer, has an on-again, off-again romance with the titled character (Diane Keaton) who is his soul mate and counterpart to his own labored existence. Episodic to be sure, Allen's directing and co-writing take everything bothersome and makes it into an honest labor of love. (Alvy, too, is a stand-up comic who spars about anything from strained love relationships to Republican politics. Not to mention both have that eloquent obssession with "sex and death".) While Alvy always seems maladjusted, he is unable to cope without Annie who, while from Chippewa Falls, WI, can relate to him and help him through the shipwreck of his nuerotic life.

'Annie Hall' is exceptionally funny. In one scene Annie is relating a dream to Alvy where "Frank Sinatra is suffocating" her. Alvy, quick to psychoanalysis, immediately says that she is suffocating her career as a singer. She counters that her therapist says that it is he who is suffocating her because his last name in Singer. (And by all means psychology gets a comedic thrashing many times.) While thinking aloud on the street, Alvy stops a couple to ask them roughly why they seemed so happy. "Basically, I'm shallow," she confides. "I'm basically shallow, too," he adds. In another scene he talks to his friend (Tony Roberts), where he relates talking to a dinner guest. He talks about the meal and tells of a companion who said, "I had salad. Didjyou?" To which they both debate anti-semitism. There's also a split-screen scene where Alvie and Annie are each talking to their pyschiatrists and the differences are acutely funny. (One should also add that Allen did more in these few minutes than 'Conversations with Other Women' did in a whole movie.) Pet peeves are also confronted to provide creator and audience with plenty of therapeutic laughs.

'Annie Hall' is just delightful fun. Chockful of wit and candor, it is a sustaining comedic classic. (Also with cameo appearances by Shelly Duvall as a 'Rolling Stone' reporter and Paul Simon.)

One of Woody's Best.......2007-06-11

Annie Hall is one of the best Woody Allen movies out there. It features Dianne Keaton in one of her best performances, and is a thoroughly enjoyable movie with great wit and humor. If you are ever tempted to rent or buy one of the new below average movies put out so often by Hollywood nowadays, rethink the decision and watch this instead. Some great fun and the New York v. Los Angeles debate that is often a basis of Woody' humor, is in great form here. 5 Stars.

A romantic comedy that's actually funny, moving, and original.......2007-06-05

Full of neuroses and classic comedy bits, Woody Allen's Annie Hall is that rare breed of movie: a romantic comedy that's actually funny, moving, and original.

Allen's character, a neurotic standup comic named Alvy Singer, meets free-spirited Annie Hall (played with superb wit and energy by a young Diane Keaton). Their on-again-off-again romance flows throughout the movie leading both of them on a roller coaster of emotions that they both want to stay on and get off of at the same time.

Annie Hall features cameos from several of today's stars, although when Annie Hall was filmed these actors were just dayplayers. It's a veritable who's-who of small parts. Jeff Goldblum as a party guest, Sigourney Weaver as one of Alvy's dates, Beverly D'Angelo as a character in a TV show, Truman Capote as a Truman Capote lookalike, and Christopher Walken as Annie's slightly off-kilter brother. Paul Simon also makes an extended appearance as musician Tony Lacey.

Annie Hall is the first Woody Allen movie I've seen, and now I can't believe I waited this long. If you're going to see one Woody Allen movie, or just one movie, make it Annie Hall. You won't be disappointed.

GREAT CHICK FLICK, THE CINDERELLA STORY WITH RICHARD GERE, WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT??? -SMILE-

Best Romantic Comedy of All Time.......2007-03-18

This 15th Anniversary edition has some deleted scenes inserted into the movie that has had some "purists" howling, but for me, I think it adds a new dimension to the relationship between Edward and Vivian. Aside from that the commentary from Garry Marshall was fun (of course, hearing from Julia Roberts and Richard Gere would have been great, but whatever). The wrap party is a joke; they shouldn't have bothered inserting that. The "Pretty Woman Tour" which takes you to the actual places where the movie was filmed was also informative. But all that aside, it's about the movie and it is a movie that still seems fresh and original all these years later. It's well worth owning because this a is a movie that will surely get more than one viewing.

already classic of Hollywood.......2007-01-28

The film is about a wealthy businessman, (Richard Gere), who inadvertently meets a prostitute, (Julia Roberts).
He hires her not just for the night but as a companion for an entire week!

Typically, it's fantastically 'Chik Flik' because of the love story between the lead couple, within the film. And yes, it obviously has a smushy romantic ending that makes every girl's heart melt :)
But I found that this film isn't your average light-hearted Rom-Com, purely because, when dealing with the subject of a prostitute, it would be hard to make it all sunshine and smiles...

I liked the fact that I found this film 'intelligent'. They look at some of the prejudices that Julia Roberts' young character would encounter.
(Please note this was also picked up on in my school and clips of the film were shown to us while we were studying prejudice and discrimination!)

As expected from such seasoned and successful actors, both lead characters are convincing and extremely likeable in their roles. Support actors are also well-played.

I have just one final comment and that is, my boyfriend is generally not a fan of the 'Chik Flik' genre- didn't like Dirty Dancing and Love Actually didn't rock his world- but he has commented on several occasions on how much he enjoyed watching this...
And that just says it all!!

While visiting Los Angeles for a week, Edward Lewis borrows his friend's car and gets lost on Hollywood Boulevard... He asks a hooker for directions... She proposes to help him for 5 dollars... For $20, she accepted to show him where the stars live...

Edward invites her to join him in his hotel suite, but not for sex...

Enjoying her company, he offers her to be his 'date' for a series of business activities including a strategic dinner and a pool match... Out of the 'bargain,' she gets $3,000 cash, a classier wardrobe and a visit to the opera...

All the characters of the film are convincing, original and sympathetic, feeling comfortable with each other... Director Gary Marshall did a great job...

Ideal for the role is Richard Gere... He plays Edward Lewis, the terrific rescuer who 'free' Vivian from the streets conducting her to his penthouse suite... He is handsome, charming and shy... 'Henry Higgins' at his best... But Edward is a millionaire... He buys companies that are in financial difficulty... He takes them apart and sells the pieces for more than he paid for the whole... "It's strictly business", he tells Vivian... "You and I are both such similar people. We both screw people for money."

Edward's only defect is that he hurts what he loves... He wins a certain imaginative power by how painful that treason is...

Julia Roberts plays Vivian Ward, an attractive and smart hooker with a heart of gold... She gives her character a great sense of humor, charming Edward with her honesty... She is intensely appealing and amusing, making women feel comfortable...

Into the snobbish clothing store, she delivers a great exit line, just devastating the saleswomen... he song is terrific as the scene... In the hotel lobby, she walks in a 'killer' red dress... She learns which fork to use in the formal dinner meeting, projecting an escargot through the air... At the opera she innocently asks: "Where's the band?"

There's more than a touch of Eliza Dolittle in her role, specially when she decides she wants more from Edward than money... She gets the perfect rescue scene with a limousine, a fire escape, a balcony, birds, music and red flowers...

Hector Elizondo turns a supporting role into more than that... He plays the formal, intolerant hotel manager... He takes an affection to his best customer's "niece" and trains her on which fork to use at a fancy dinner... His amusing performance as Edward's smooth competent hotel manager nearly shapes Roberts and Gere...

Ralph Bellamy is very good as the aging millionaire, creator of a small company Edward is trying to take to pieces...

Laura San Giacomo plays Vivian's pal roommate, her first role since she played the amorous sister in "sex, lies & videotape."

"Pretty Woman" is a contemporary Hollywood fairy tale, a sweet romantic comedy, an innocent 'love story' in the middle of self-interest and agreement... It remains as an entertaining motion picture that had women calling out the delights of true love...

Keep on dreaming!

I got this version of the DVD because the original version is so much more expensive. The special features/scenes are nothing to be excited about.

Other people who reviewed this product were being ridiculous when they were trying to put this movie down because Julia Roberts plays a hooker? It's called a movie role! And after all, it all turns out for the best in the end. Whatever happened to just reviewing the actual product?

The basic plot is the same--chauffeur's daughter falls in love with the son of the rich household, only to be wooed away by the older brother for business purposes--but it has been entertainingly modernized: The head of the Larrabee household is the strong matriarch (Nancy Marchand); Sabrina goes to Paris to work with a photographer instead of going to cooking school (although that means the wonderful "new egg" scene of the original had to be ditched); David's (Greg Kinnear) character has been toned down and made more sympathetic; and Humphrey Bogart's revolutionary plastic has become the flattest TV screen ever made. Lauren Holly does a fine job playing Elizabeth Tyson, David's fiancée. If you watch this for its own worth--instead of comparing it to the original--this will prove to be a terrific lighthearted romantic comedy. --Jenny Brown

I love, love, love this movie. Julia is beautiful and Harrison does an amazing job, far from his usual role of treasure hunter. If this remake doesn't get you then the music will, it is a romantic shiny movie and I cry every time I watch it. Yes, I am a girlie girl. Then their Sting, ahhhh, "In the Moonlight."

Unfortunately, I have not seen the classic version of this movie yet. In fact, I didn't even know it was a re-make.

It's an early 90's rags to riches, love story. Like Pretty Woman without the hooker part. I feel that Julia Ormond had terrific chemistry with Harrison Ford. It even made me have little flutters when I anticipated a kiss.

I love this movie!

Kay Thompson Keeps This 'Funny Face' from Sagging.......2007-06-12

Better state up front that I'm not a huge musicals fan. There've been a few I love (The Sound of Music comes to mind) but mostly I find them frivolous and tedious. Why, you might wonder, did I watch this, then? Don't know, 'zactly. Read a little squib about it somewhere, the library had it on hand and, voila, there it was in my video player one night.

That said, I can't say I enjoyed it all that much, though it contained one great surprise: Kay Thompson--who, I just learned, was the author of the wonderful "Eloise" books, and who portrays fashion magazine powerhouse Maggie Prescott (a high-energy prototype of Meryl Streep's "Devil Wears Prada" Miranda Priestly character)--was the shining star in this film as far as I was concerned.(Phew! Thought I'd never get to the end of that sentence!). Thompson could sing, dance, AND act--a triumverate her two co-stars each fell apart on one way or another. Astaire could dance up a storm, but his singing is mediochre and his acting, well, let's just say he's (for the most part) likeable anyway. Hepburn is a marvelous actress, an (surprise, surprise!) excellent dancer, but her singing....eh.

Well. Put these three together into a powdered sugar of a show with excellent set design, fun dance numbers, but forgettable tunes and you get a three star out of five result (raised up from two, to my mind, just because of the star power of Hepburn/Astaire, and the fun, high-powered performance by Thompson.)

I have to agree with others here who were given the willies by the age difference between Astaire and Hepburn (the same feeling one got with the earlier Daddy Long Legs, where they paired AARP-member Astaire with the pre-pubescent Leslie Caron...What were they thinking?) But the lovers' lack of chemistry doesn't stop there. I never believed for an instant that they were in love in the movie and, when they sail away on the raft surrounded by swans and doves with (no doubt) clipped wings that prevented them from flying away in fear and disgust, I found myself snorting haughtily at the whole premise.

Watch it, not for a show that's going to wow you, but for the entertaining dance numbers, the colorful sets, and for Kay Thompson.

I had to write a review because I want to respond the people who don't like the Astaire/Hepburn relationship. It's just a vehicle to get these two actors together in a song and dance movie to showcase Fred Astaire. She dances well which was a surprise to me. So he was somewhat older? He was a monstrous star and he still danced really well.

Having said that the story was a bit too predictable. The overall feel of the film was just OK. Can't fault the Gershwin music though and the dancing was good.

This charming update of Pygmalion (by way of the John Hughes oeuvre, most notably Pretty in Pink) rode the crest of the late-'90s wave of immensely popular teen films (Varsity Blues, etc.), thanks primarily to the immense charisma of its two leads, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook. What elevates She's All That above the realm of standard teen fare is its mixture of good-natured fairy-tale romance and surprisingly clear-eyed view of high school social strata. The lines of class are demarcated as clearly as if in a Jane Austen novel, but the satire is equally deflating and affectionate. Sure, high school could be bad sometimes, but it was lots of fun too; this is a movie good-natured enough to take time out for an extended hip-hop dance number at the prom. Director Robert Iscove (who also helmed the Brandy-starring TV adaptation of Cinderella) has also assembled a great young cast, including a scene-stealing Anna Paquin as Zach's no-nonsense sister, Kieran Culkin as Laney's geeky brother, and a stupidly goofy Matthew Lillard as a Real World cast member whose arrival shakes things up a little too much. And amidst all the comedy and prom drama, you'd be hard-pressed to find two teen stars as talented, attractive, and appealing as Prinze and Cook. Prinze is an approachable and sensitive jock, though it's Cook who's the true star, investing Laney with confidence, humor, and heart. Like Zach, you'll be hard-pressed not to fall in love with her. Post grunge My Fair Lady.......2007-06-19

I'd like to think that I am smarter than to watch teen movies, as I haven't been one in a long time. And yet, even the stiffest, most serious of intellectuals such as myself want a little trash now and then so we don't have to think too hard. This was not bad, not bad at all.

This modern day update of Pygmailion / My Fair Lady takes us to a California high school. It's almost the end of the year, and the senior class is getting ready for their end of the year, pre graduation antics. Among them is Laney, the Eliza Doolittle, off in her artistic corner sulking away while the popular kids are off doing things that popular kids do. Freddie Prince Jr, in one of his many leading man roles in teen movies, is the most popular guy in school who has been thrown a sudden curveball. His girlfriend, Taylor, suddenly drops him after going down to Florida for spring break and falling into a hopeless (and I do mean hopeless) affair with Matt Lillard, "star" of the latest season of The Real World on MTV. His friends comfort, but say that he can find another date for the prom just as quickly. They bet him that they can not only find him another woman, but based on his good looks, charm and popularity he can take a lost cause and make her just as A List as he is. They single out Laney, and the chase is on.

A few things put me off about this movie. Firstly, this wasn't a new story (it's Pygmalion / My Fair Lady, like I said). Secondly, it is possible that people really are mindless sheep enough to go along with something once a person in power says to do it, as eventually Laney will not be tarred and feathered once Zach starts bringing her to parties out of her area. Third, if Zach really was such a nice guy (which he seems to be), I have a hard time believing that someone like him would be with a shrew like Taylor to begin with. Looking back, I realize that a lot of the popular kids got their ways with people by making them look bad before others (like when Taylor pours her drink down Laney's dress), and Zach seems too good to do something like that to someone. And fourth, Laney was hot underneith all those ugly clothes and hostile attitude, you could tell through those overalls and thick glasses. Naturally if and when she got dolled up, she would be all she could be rather than look like an ogre in a dress.

It's nice, light entertainment. Have fun with it on a rainy afternoon.

She's All That is not as funny as the some teen films released such as 10 Things..and Never been Kissed but it's still a nice movie.

Freddie Prinze Jr is dumped by his 'popular' girlfriend and takes on a bet to transform any girl his friend picks into someone just as popular.

Of course, the girl is the most clumsy and awkward female in the entire school with absolutely no social graces or dress sense. And she finds out about the bet just when he realizes how he really feels about her and then he has some serious making up to do!

A bit slow in places but it will make you smile.

I was expecting a predictable teen movie rife with cliche and populated with vapid, albeit good looking, young actors. Was I ever wrong! "She's All That" is a real charmer. It offers cogent insights into teen life and is not without it's tender moments. It's ultimate message, that true change is not cosmetic but comes from within, does not come off as forced or cynical. The cast is quite appealing. Special kudos go to Rachel Leigh Cook as Laney, the "ugly duckling". Cook makes Laney's transformation believable and subtle. Matthew Lillard also has a show-stopping turn as an obnoxious MTV reality show reject. Look quick for Sarah Michelle Gellar in a cafeteria scene.

Teens don't talk like that. I rip off of 16 candles and so utterly cliched that it felt like a parody.

Classics -- Done Right.......2007-03-13

Bernard Shaw in my mind is the greatest playwright we've ever had. I prefer him even to Shakespeare (but, shoot, we can have 'em both, so why quibble?). This collection offers a simply great Devil's Disciple and Arms and the Man plus a Heartbreak House to die for. Mrs. Warren's Profession is good, and I have not yet seen The Millionairess or Pygmalion, but I imagine that they, too, are quite up to snuff. If you love Shaw, this is a must for your library. And you'll want your kids and theirs to share it, too. These plays can be watched again and again without tarnishing their greatness.

The plays presented here are well acted and directed. As a collection they present a wonderful overview of Shaw's developement as a playwright and thinker. Although not a bomb in hand revolutionary Shaws was presenter of words and ideas. Thesew presenments help to make him the father of the modern English drama. These plays are little gems filled with wit, insight and hold up quit well on this age of shock for shock sake.

More Shaw than you can shake a stick at.......2006-05-29

With the 150th anniversary of George Bernard Shaw's birth fast approaching (July 26), BBC Warner celebrates the Irish playwright by collecting together ten of his most famous and representative plays, produced by the BBC during the 1970's and 80's with some of the finest British actors of the age, and making them available on six DVDs which also feature documentaries on his life and works. With a total run time of over 11 hours, this collection also represents an excellent bargain at $7 per disc or approximately $3.76 per hour. Where else can you find entertainment at this level of writing, acting, directing, and producing for even twice the price?

The only caveat may be the lack of a live theatre audience. I'm assuming most people watching these DVDs are alive, but will probably not watch them in a theatre with others. The absence of this live theatre audience, especially one schooled in the particular genres popular to theatregoers of Shaw's time, may prove somewhat alienating for some, especially as the dialogue and plot recall a more literary era with social conventions that are no longer conventional. We still produce Shaw, however, because his irony, wit and verbal agility were never ends unto themselves, even if they sweetened his less-palatable moral truths. Shaw the playwright was never far removed from Shaw the polemicist, and we would honor him best on this anniversary by remembering this.

This conflicted teen comedy can't decide what it wants to be. Is Drive Me Crazy a mainstream piffle about a popular girl who turns her grungy next-door neighbor into a dream date? Or is it a sneaky critique of high school conformity? Melissa Joan Hart (TV's Sabrina, the Teenage Witch) is angling to get asked to an upcoming dance by a basketball star, but when her plans go awry, she turns to a childhood friend (Adrian Grenier from The Adventures of Sebastian Cole) in the hopes of avoiding total humiliation. Grenier wants to win back his recently lost girlfriend, so he agrees to Hart's total makeover plan to induce jealousy. Naturally, the scam turns into something sparky. Teen flicks always make things too glossy and upscale, but Drive Me Crazy somehow fumbles its design and ends up looking false and square. The movie initially presents Grenier's transformation as unqualified good, with no sense that anything he was doing before--political protests, alternative music, rebellious pranks--had any value. But as the plot unfolds, a few barbed twists undercut the good cheer, sneakily commenting on school spirit and popularity. These themes wrestle uncomfortably with the movie's production values, resulting in a curiously provocative jumble. This confusion is probably why the movie was only a modest success in theaters, but it's actually what makes Drive Me Crazy worth looking at now. --Bret Fetzer

The story is your typical preppy girl cleans up outcast to get Jock interested in her, but falls in love, and I know your thinking it's cliche and been done a million times and you are right! But aren't all of these teen comedies mundane? Sure they are! Enjoy them for what they are. Britney Spears sung a great song off of this soundtrack "You Drive Me Crazy" is a hit track.

This movie is really well done. Each scene flows nicely into the next, the dialogs are perfect, and the caracters are adorable. Just watch it and enjoy.

The movie arrived in exellent condition. With Stallone being more commonly known for his action movies, he gives it a reasonable shot at this genre. Dolly gave a good performance too.
