Well Worth it For Kids!.......2002-11-19

WOW ALL FLYING!!! I bought this for my 4 yr. old for x-mas. After purchasing Top-Gun, I noticed he only liked the flying scenes... Well, when it arrived, of course I had to PREVIEW it (like Santa would do! hehehe!). I was very pleased to see ALL FLYING, very good views, and alot of action. I was only displeased at the soundtrack. But I heard all of it to make this review, (I'll turn on my Cd-player in the background when he watches it.) The editing, and cut away shots don't match up enouph for a "perfectionist" adult dvd'ist like myself. But I know my little boy will Love me for it! MERRY X-MAS Son! I'm sure all kids that like flying would enjoy this more than any Documentary style Dvd!

The DVD offers some of the best fighter jet scenes I had ever seen. All of the new state-of-the-art aircraft were featured in the video. From the new European fighters, to the newest Mig, to the advanced F-22 Raptor.

I was expecting a documentary style feature, but instead they are multiple scenes of the aircraft, and music playing in the background. The music was mostly 80's rock, and seem pretty boring to me. However, I didn't mind the music because the angles in which the aircraft were captured were pretty amazing.

If you expect to learn something from this video, try looking at Wings. Not a word is mentioned here, except for a few pilot chatter, otherwise is just aircraft and music.

Well worth the bucks.......2001-08-15

This DVD is excellent. Nothing but flying. It shows many of the worlds fighters in flight, weapon tests and other footage. It's very cheap and the footage is amazing. No commentary just pure flight. I have watched it about 50 times and enjoy it every time. My only complaints are it's a little short [But then look at the price and length of the average Imax film.] The music is a little annoying. But for the price it is worth it.

The picture qulity is really good and sound as well, but too many scenes are duplicated again and again, as many as 5 times for some segments.

I caught most of this movie on spike tv one night and from what i saw i decided to purchase it. I personaly think coolio and Mark Dacasscos have some solid scenes together. "Dats 1,500 dollars a bottle Toney". "I'll send you a case". I mean stuff like this is great. Some more fights scenes from AAron Kwok and i give it 5 stars.

Aaron Kwok gives a great performance in this silly cop movie........2007-02-20

Kwok is on fire in this movie with maybe his best physical performance ever. He looks like a pop star but his acting is actually very good. Unfortunately, his performance is completely wasted in a movie this bad. I won't explain the story, it is cops vs. drug dealers. There is a beautiful fighting female, good car chases, big name stars, and good fights. How did this movie go wrong? Well, Stanley Tong is a decent director, but he is an action dierctor at heart. He tries to make this an American movie but he disregards everything that gives feeling to movies. I cracked a smile more than a few times but this is the most mindless modern day film I have seen in a long time. Usually, I am able to get past all of this since I am a sucker for good fight scenes, and this movie does have a few. Highlights to watch for are Ken Lo vs. Marc Dacoscos and Dacoscos vs. everyone in the final fight. The thing that ruins this movie is that the real final fight never finishes, but instead it moves on to a totally ridiculous fight to finish off the movie. 'Cradle to the Grave' has a better end fight! Stanley Tong must have been out of his mind because in the finale, Coolio ends up as the main opponent. Not Ken Lo who is the leg fighter that faces Jackie Chan at the end of 'Drunken Master 2', and not Marc Dacoscos who is one of the very best modern day martial arts actors, but Coolio.

I honestly thought this was a good cheesy movie, but the final fight sequence is just horrible. Stanley Tong comes up with a great idea having the actors fighting on a huge piece of glass hundreds of feet in the air and they have to keep their balance while they fight. It is just too bad Coolio had to ruin it. 2.5/5

DVD from Dimension Home Video has good sound and picture quality. No special features except the outtakes in the credits which was a much more satisfying end to the movie.

Mark Dacascos is the real star.......2004-02-24

Although the other actors make a decent effort, it's obvious that Mark Dacascos is the one who really knows what he's doing. While the others use wires to make themselves look good, Mark doesn't, and he still looks better.

Disecting the story would be pretty pointless. It's standard fare and offers nothing revolutionary, but as with all martial arts movies it's what you come to expect. Kind of a shame really, but anytime I can watch Mark is ok with me.

There is a rather touching performance dealing with the death of a character and the girls are lovely. Again, if you're looking for something deep this isn't the movie for you.

Above Average Action from Director of "Rumbles in the Bronx".......2002-07-26

This is an average Hong kong actioner with its cast from diverse countries. From Hong Kong, upcoming star Arron Kwok appears as a special agent in Shanghai while America provides Coolio as a drug lord and Mark Dacascos as a gangster hungry for money and power (rare case for him to play a bad guy). Plus from Taiwan you get singer Leehom Wang as Kwok's hot-shot sidekick, and Japan also sends its popular actress Norika Fujiwara as a mysterious spy. It is obvious that "China Strike Force" (in Japan where I saw it, it was called "Spy_N") is made for international market, and whether it succeeds or not, I don't know, but as an action film it fares better than many other outings from Hong Kong, where you can see no longer Jackie, Chow, or maestro Woo constantly.

And the story is about a Chinese police team of Arron Kwok and Leehom Wang, who must stall some plot of a joint force of Chinese crime syndicate (Dacascos) and American gangster (Coolio), about some drug deal, but it is just a usual excuse to carry on 90 minutes of exciting actions and dull dialogues. Just wait till the film kicks off its action scenes, which are quite impressive.

There are two things that you might be interested. Director Stanley Tong is famous for Jackie Chan films, especially "First Strike" and "Rumbles in the Bronx" (the latter reaching the No. 1 box-office hit in US), and ... (embarrasing silence) ... Lesley Nelsen's "Mr. Magoo." His first Holywood film was surely a bomb. But he went back to his roots, real Hong-Kong actioner, and made a pretty good one, even though it sometimes goes to far, showing too much superflous viloence.

Another thing is that the location is not in Hong-Kong, but in Shanghai, and that may add some value to the film. This means it was shot in China, not in a rather crowded city of Hong Kong, so the actions are done with a larger scale as a result, and especailly the following two -- a "Driven"-like car chase sequence, and the final action using helicopter carrying a car and a glass panel held at the deadly height -- is very exciting.

Great Action--Acting? I dont speak a lick of Chinese.......2001-10-29

The action in this movie is outstanding, the helicopter/glass pane scene is unreal, I loved it!--I am pretty sure the acting is pretty bad but I have watched this twice, once with Cantonese and the second time with the Mandarin DTS track (my girlfriend speaks Mandarin so when I saw it again with her she was happy) and I had to work with English subtitles. The DTS encoding is superb and the Lfe channel made my couch move a few feet to the right. And I can't forget Norika Fujiwara, she is one of my favorite foreign actresses, not to mention the fact that she is gorgeous (sharing the level of beauty with Shu Qui and Zhang Zhiyi)--and she is outstanding in this movie, you can't take your eyes off of her.

Strictly a "B" grade Movie.......2005-06-16

Some..very minimal A list actors in a B movie. There was lots of action in this film, too much in fact. It took some time for the actual storyline to take effect really!! Audio on this DVD is terrible to say the least!! Spots are very low and are hard to hear...too many than I would like to count in fact!! What is good about this movie...Burt Reynolds is in it...that is about it...he must have really needed the pitance that this film gave him!! Do not waste your time on this one, unless you like really poor storylines and acting to boot!!

A Good Crime Drama.......2002-08-13

This film will arrive with a big picture of Richard Gere on the cover but in reality he has a small part behind the real star of this picture Cliff Gorman. This film like "The Seven-Ups" is based on a original story by Sonny Grosso. The two stories are similar and both films are very good. The story is about a group of three cops forming an unlikely union in a "strike force" against drug dealers. They are blamed for drugs being smuggled right out of their offices and they have to not only bust the leader of the drug orginzation played by Joe Spinell but find the people responsible for the smuggling. The film is about 74 minutes long and I suspect it was made for TV which makes it a remarkable accomplishment for a made for TV movie. I gave this good French Connection like film only 4 stars because the quality of the DVD isnt terribly good but at the price this is selling used it is well worth the 5 to 7 dollars you will pay.

great 1938 flight film.......2004-09-18

This film is very entertaining, and its plot centers around a love triangle, and the dangers and adventures of the early days of flying, with some spectacular aerial cinematography by Ray June.
Myrna Loy and Clark Gable were the Queen and King of Hollywood when this film was made, and a few minutes of watching this film shows us why. Myrna Loy as the fun-loving Ann is vivacious and beautiful, and Gable, as test pilot and dare devil Jim Lane, is handsome and oozes manly self-assurance; they make a great pair, and Spencer Tracy is marvelous as Gable's loyal mechanic, the more down to earth of the three, who is quietly in love with Myrna.
Though much of this film is well-written froth, it has many melodramatic scenes, with the perils of 1930s aviation always not far from anyone's mind.

Others in the cast are Marjorie Main as their landlady, and Lionel Barrymore as Howard Drake. Fast-paced direction by Victor Fleming, a good score by Franz Waxman, and excellent acting were some of the reasons this film received Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Film Editing, and Best Story.
Myrna Loy continued to act for over four decades after this film, including the memorable "The Best Years of Our Lives", but "Test Pilot" was always a favorite of hers; Gable was to follow this a year later with "Gone with the Wind", and Tracy would win a 1938 Best Actor Oscar for "Boys Town".
The total running time is 118 minutes, and "Test Pilot" is a must see for early flight fans, and anyone who likes these wonderful actors.

This is Mind Blowing.......2006-12-01

I picked this up for cheaps at Wal-Mart with a few Kung-Fu movies, and forced a friend of mine to suffer through it with me. It was so out-there that we both became addicted to it within 10 minutes or so. It was by Ruby-Spears, and the animation is fairly high quality, everything is well drawn. It has the visual style of He-Man crossed with G.I. Joe.

Some of the plots are so cheesy that you just can't get over it, like the main bad guy wanting to go back in time to organize NYC street gangs so that their ancestors would obey him in the present. It's almost too much to process the fact that this looks big-budget, sounds great, and just throws so many different things at you that it melts your brain if you try to keep up with it.

And, speaking of the bad guy, supposedly he steals this computer brain and merges it with his own. That must be why it looks like he's got a 2XL jammed into the top of his head. (Reminds me of the IL series cylons from old-school Battlestar Galactica). But it doesn't explain his need to wear humongous metal shoulder pads. Or the fact that he's go hydraulic articulators for his mouth, but his mouth never moves. And the rest of the bad guys...the "bio-borgs" are all just weird ideas that somehow got stuck into the same show. Like Replicon, who can turn parts of his body into anything; most often his head turns into a gun. Or Grenader, who, defying all known laws of physics, blows himself up to effect damage over and over again, and each time reassembles himself. Never mind Dr. Five Eyes. The important thing to remember...how do you turn someone into a cyborg? Put them in a chamber and pump in special gas! Uh, yeah, that'll do it...sure....

Sure, there are some unintentionally funny moments of dialog (the "warm spot" comment in the first episode), but the strength of the show is in its character designs, I mean, well, a few of them actually look like surfers. Sliced Ice is hot! Cerina's bottom is a tad see-through at times. They all go through a Voltron/Power Rangers/Gatchaman style transformation to get suited up, and of course the stuff comes out of nowhere and changes their hair and clothes as well. Ice's makes you say, uhhmmm...yeah, that needs support...I understand it now.... I can't figure out the differences between Soar Loser and Crazy Stunts, they seem to be interchangeable...except for the hair. (Would you want everyone to refer to you as "Loser"? Poor Brad....) My friend can't get over the fact that they list their blood types during the opening credits.

Anyway, I really hope they release the whole series, I'll be buying them. If you like offbeat stuff that leaves you satisfied and confused at the same time, give this a spin. It's cheap enough. Maybe you will do the mystery-science theatre thing and try to talk ironically through it, that's when it melts your brain...because it's impossible to keep up with it. Especially the 50-foot woman episode....
