You can take this 1992 thriller one of two ways: it's either a highly suspenseful movie about an unfortunate young woman's psychological breakdown, or it's a glossy slasher movie starring two of Hollywood's best young actresses. Or maybe it's both at the same time--or perhaps it's the clever and well-acted thriller for its first hour before resorting to the routine shocks of a cheap horror flick. However you look at it, there's no denying that this is a dynamite showcase for Jennifer Jason Leigh as the roommate from hell who becomes the bane of Bridget Fonda's existence. First she picks up Fonda's mannerisms, then starts to borrow her wardrobe, cuts her hair to resemble Fonda's, and even "borrows" her roomie's boyfriend for a deceitful night of lovemaking. By that point Fonda's totally freaking out (wouldn't you?), and, well, that's when the whole thing gets a little too silly. Still, this is a nifty little shocker, and director Barbet Schroeder brings more intelligence and style to the material than it really deserves. Add that to the fine performances by the battling roommates and you've got a movie that will make you think twice before inviting total strangers to live with you. --Jeff Shannon

Single White Female is a pretty decent early 90s horror-thriller. Although most of the action and dialogue seems kind of cheesy now, I'm sure it was surprising and intriguing at the time.

Jennifer Jason Leigh really creates a psychologically frightening character that definitely increases the scare factor of the situation overall. Her character is scary to think about and very well developed in her portrayal of psychoses.

The amount of nudity and sexuality involved in this movie is kind of amazing. Every 10 minutes either Jennifer Jason Leigh or Bridget Fonda is getting out of the shower and walking naked across the apartment, or there's an extended sex scene between Bridget Fonda and her fiance. We can either say that the premise of stolen identity crosses into the most secure areas of our lives, like our sexuality, and that we are naked before these terrors... or we could just say that sex sells thrillers when plots are lacking.

Either way, Single White Female is obviously from the 90s and the clothing is the most obvious reminder of that, although Fonda's haircut is a dead giveaway too.

The DVD doesn't have any special features, except for a theatrical trailer, so that's kind of disappointing. But it helps remind you of the early 90s. Remember when VHS just had the movie on it and that's it? Yeah, that's back when films like Single White Female were coming out.

Me And My Shadow..........2007-03-09

Bridget Fonda is Allie, a woman who must take in a roommate after her boyfriend (Steven Weber) betrays her. Enter Heddy (Jennifer Jason Leigh), who answers Allie's ad and moves right in. All is well until Allie's boyfriend creeps back into the picture, filling Heddy w/ a growing paranoia and dread, which eventually sends her reeling into full psychotic mode. You see, Heddy's a bit off. She has never gotten over the loss of her identical twin sister, and has spent her entire life drifting from one person to another, looking for someone to be attached to. Poor Allie is the latest target of Heddy's twisted affections! Soon, no one is safe, as Heddy digs herself deeper into Allie's life. Deaths ensue and Allie must face Heddy in a desperate fight for survival. SWF is one of the great horror / thrillers of the late 80s / 90s. It's right up there w/ FATAL ATTRACTION and THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE. Highly recommended...

Cheesy, unbelievable, and a bit out there..........2006-11-20

All in all, the movie isn't bad if you like things that are supposed to be a bit scary, but really just end up being kind of silly. The premise is that Allie needs a roommate, and she runs across Hedy, who seems the perfect roommate, until she starts trying to take over Allie's life by nearly assuming her identity. Later, we discover that Hedy isn't exactly who she has claimed to be, and apparently has had some interesting experiences in her life, in and out of psych hospitals because of the death of her twin sister, for which she feels responsible (and probably is).

Hedy ends up killing everyone in Allie's life, including a dog, except, of course, Allison - so there's your happy ending, Allison lives, but everyone else dies.

It's cheesy. It's over the top. It's totally unbelievable, and yet, it is a bit of a suspenseful film, and not a total waste of time to watch.

Trash.......2006-07-11

This is a waste of two hours. Complete trash. Jennifer Jason Leigh is as ugly as a donkey's butt, and the only likable factor of this movie (Sam, the adorable little Golden Retriever puppy) is pushed out a window. I didn't really like it to begin with, but seeing the cute little thing cruelly killed by Psycho-Bitch made me turn it off. A waste of time and money. Get a movie that'll put you in a good mood, especially if you're a dog lover, like me.

DON'T MAKE ME COME GET YOU.......2006-06-18

I love this movie. It is so funny and over-the-top.

The basic plot is that Allison (Bridget Fonda) gets a roommate for her Manhattan apartment (has anyone ever seen an apartment this large in NYC??) after her skirt-crazy live-in lover Sam (played by "Wings" star Steven Weber) runs around on her. It's Headra "Hedy" (Jennifer Jason Leigh) to the rescue!

Allie thinks she found the best thing since sliced bread in Hedy. Although she is somewhat meek, and no fashion magnet she seems kind, and eager to befriend the lonely and hurt Allie.

Sam reenters the picture which really ticks Hedy off. You see, Hedy is actually a kook that is infatuated with Allie. She soon starts dressing like Allie, and acting like Allie. And Allie soon finds out that Heady has some dark secrets.

When Sam comes back from a business trip Hedy goes to his hotel posing as Allie (she cut and colored her hair the same color and style) to perform oral sex on him. Once Sam figures out it's crazy Hedy he tries to get her off him.

The next day there's a climactic scene when Allie finds out what Hedy did to Sam. They fight in the apartment basement prompting Hedy to scream, "DON'T MAKE ME COME GET YOU..."

The movie ends with Allison reflecting on what happened, she tries to forgive Hedy...

This movie actually wasn't all that bad.

Very similar story to the original.

The females are a lot better looking than the ones in the first film, that's for sure.

I thought this movie might be pretty horrid, but in all actuality, it is a pretty good film.

If you liked the first movie, I think you should give this one a try. It's worth owning especially if you have the original movie.

Good story, good acting, definitly a thriller.

Single White Female 2.........uuuhhhhhh.......2006-04-16

Holly played by Kristen Miller (She Spies, Man of the Year) has a nice career as a journalist with her friend played by Brooke Burns (Baywatch, Death of the Supermodels). The 2 of them fight over the owner of a restaurant named Zucas (I think thats close enough) runned by actor Tod Babcock (Guard Dogs, Poor White Trash). When Holly gets pissed off at her friend because she slept with Mr. Babcock she tries to find a new place to live and low and behold she finds a new shy roommate Tess, played by Allison Lange (The Hillside Strangler, Roswell). Holly becomes close to Tess and they seem to hit it off real well, until Holly finds out some things about Tess that makes her think that maybe this wasnt such a good idea. Well, in 1992, Jennifer Jason Leigh did this to Bridget Fonda and now they make a sequel about it, wow, they must of went threw tons of scripts just to get to this one. Pretty much the young girls on screen are eye candy and the acting is pretty bad plus the twists and thrills arent that great. This can go down with Basic Instinct 2....in the trash can or the skeet shoot, one of the two. Also starring Francois Giroday (Carpool Guy, Framed), Tracey McCall (Not Another Teen Movie, Second Degree), Rif Hutton (Osmosis Jones, Halfway Decent) and Kyme (School Daze, Geppetto).

Of Course It Is Not a Sequel; It's a Remake, and Pretty Bad and Unnecessary One.......2006-04-10

So Sony did it again. This time it is `Single White Female 2.' Now I want to ask you seriously. Do we really need another version of `Single White Female'? Before you answer the question, take a look at the writers' name of the film Ross Helford and Andy Hurst, both responsible for `Wild Things 2' and `Wild Things: Diamonds in the Rough.'

`SWF2' is just another direct-to-video film with almost no redeeming points except as a reminder of the original `SWF' which was not a great film, but still far better a thriller than this one. Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh (especially the latter) were very good, and Barbet Schroeder almost made us forget the impossible story with his camera. No such things can be found in `Single White Female 2' in which all you can see is the similar story told in a slower and clumsier fashion.

Once again we are to meet a single white female (working for PR film in NYC) Holly (Kristen Miller) who starts to live with another single white female Tess (Alison Lange). It takes some time for the new roommate to find that she is living with a very unusual girl, who hates other people's lies but can wear someone's else dress without asking and go the seedy club named `SIN' (really). Who should she do? Live with her? Leave her? Apparently Holly doesn't know the right answer, doing stupid things one after another.

But before the film gets down to business as thriller, it has to show us so many thrill-free elements that only slow the pace: Holly's job and promotion, her unfaithful (and repentant) boyfriend; her back-biting co-worker who says `Sexual manipulation is my specialty"; and so on and on. As thriller the film fails to deliver, with the predictable path it follows, not-so-effective acting from the leads, and the poorly shot scenes that do not know how to convey the thrills even as cheap ones like gore. The film makes feeble attempt to engage our attention (here I'm talking about male audiences) with some images of the ladies in underwear in vain.

The original `SWF' was not without derivative script, but had several good moments like creepy character by Jennifer Jason Leigh and that high-heel. Though it is not terrible, everything is still bland and superficial in `SWF2.'

STAY AWAY FROM THE CLASSIFIEDS.......2006-03-14

It's really not as bad as some of the other reviewers have indicated. Certainly it is derivative, and the acting is far from superior, but for a psycho roommate movie, it's passable. I must admit though that Kristen Miller's Holly is one of the stupidest people on screen, trying so hard to be everybody's friend and not smacking snidy Jan in the mouth a little more often, but hey she's the heroine. Allison Lange is the psycho, and doing her best Kirsten Dunst imitation, she is quite chilling. Brooke Barnes is perfect as the bitchy Jan, and Todd Babcock is efficient as the wayward David.
The movie's climax is admittedly under dramatic, and the ending a little ambiguous, but I have definitely seen worse.

This movie was not as good as the first one at all! thought the plot was not good and the acting wasn't that good either.
