Product Description
When the coach of Vince Papale's beloved hometown football team hosted an unprecedented open tryout, the public consensus was that it was a waste of time--no one good enough to play professional football was going to be found this way. Certainly no one like Papale--a down-on-his-luck, 30 year-old, substitute teacher and part-time bartender who never even played college football. But against these odds, Papale made the team and soon found himself living every fan's fantasy--moving from his cheap seats in the upper deck to standing on the field as a professional football player.

Walt Disney Pictures scored a surprise box-office hit with Invincible, and the movie deserved its good reviews as a fine example of how above-average writing, direction, and casting can turn formulaic material into something special. And make no mistake, this is a formulaic movie, with its real-life story embellished with Rocky-like enthusiasm, and lovingly crafted with the same quality of working-class humanism that made The Rookie a similarly popular Disney hit. This time, the inspirational true story is that of Vince Papale, a down-on-his-luck substitute teacher in Philadelphia (played by Mark Wahlberg in a nicely understated performance) who was 30 years old, out of work, abandoned by his wife, and biding time as a bartender when he answered an open call for tryouts on the Philadelphia Eagles NFL football team in 1976. Going with his gut instinct, new coach Dick Vermeil (Greg Kinnear) rewards Papale's diligent efforts with a place on the team, and Invincible combines gridiron guts, low-key romance (as Papale meets his future wife-to-be, played by Elizabeth Banks) and blue-collar friendship in an underdog story that moves, with casual charm and abundant appeal, toward a rousing feel-good finish. Making good use of digital visual effects to recreate Philly's now-demolished Veterans Stadium, director Erickson Core (also serving as his own cinematographer) tackles this heartwarming assignment with intelligence and flair, spinning gold from what could have been just another routine sports movie. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
Great family fare.......2007-06-22
This is a wonderful film that the entire family can enjoy (without watching a cartoon). It has the further benefit of being based on a real person's life and experience. In some ways it is Dick Vermeil's story as well as Vince Papale's. Both are embarking on long-shot careers. The fact that we know how Vermeil's will turn out provides reassurance that Vince's will turn out well also. A sweet and engaging film about individual aspiration, family, neighborhood, and friendship. Watch it with your kids without any fear of embarrassment. How often can you say that today?
a real good movie.......2007-05-14
this is very serious and true movie. i really enjoyed it.
Love this movie.......2007-04-11
This movie will really touch your heart. The scenery, the acting, and the music are all on point. What a great story!
Better than the usual sports saga.......2007-04-02
"Invincible" is a cut above the usual "downtrodden young man achieves the impossible" sports saga. It's the true story of a Philadelphia Eagles fan who responds to the coach's publicity stunt of holding tryouts for his beleagured team. No one expects anything to come of it, but Vince proves to be incredibly fast on his feet, and makes the first cut--and the second, and the third, and eventually the team. He's ostracized by regular team members, and even by some of his buddies back in the neighborhood, who fear they'll lose him to the big time. In his first big play, he blows it--but then makes an incredible play in a later game that wins it for the Eagles. My husband says Vince played for 3 years on Philadelphia's special teams.
This movie paints a real life gritty picture of working class Philadelphia, almost like the first Rocky film. Very suitable for kids without being sappy sweet--my 8 year old grandson thought it was great. Highly recommended.
A feel good movie.......2007-03-31
This movie was well done, it builds the problem (a depressed era) and a lack of confidence and shows how one man handles that struggle with the help of his friends and family. A must watch and one that I would recommend purchasing. Then do a look up on Wikpedia to learn more about the man.

Gina Prince-Bythewood, a former college athlete, puts a spin on this one-on-one tale of Love and Basketball. Sanaa Lathan (The Best Man) is the fiercely driven, hot-tempered Monica, a tomboy who gives her all for basketball. Omar Epps (The Mod Squad) is Quincy, an NBA player's son who has pro dreams of his own. Next-door neighbors since first grade, they start as rivals (she flabbergasts the boy by outplaying him in a game of driveway pickup) and age into best friends and lovers. The romantic complications follow a familiar game plan, but the film throws a fascinating spotlight onto the contrast between men's and women's basketball. While Quincy plays college ball on huge courts to cheering, sold-out crowds, we see Monica's sweat, tears, and sheer physical dedication in front of tiny audiences in small gyms and second-rate auditoriums.
The story is pointedly set in the late 1980s, years before the establishment of the WNBA, so Monica's prospects for pro ball lie exclusively in Europe, while Quincy steps into the pros at home. It's a pleasure to see a character as passionate and fully developed as Monica, and Lathan gives a fiery portrayal (she had never played ball before the film, but you'd never tell from her performance). Prince-Bythewood favors her struggle over Quincy's and opens our eyes to her unique challenges with a sharp, savvy contrast. Alfre Woodard costars as Monica's harping mom (always trying to get her to be more ladylike) and Dennis Haysbert is Quincy's philandering father. Hoops fan Spike Lee produced. --Sean Axmaker
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic, but...........................................2007-05-14
It was an excellent movie. However, for a viewer in Australia, the viewing of this DVD is restricted to only the computer. Most DVD players cannot view the movie, as the DVD is in an American/Canadian format. Perhaps, if this limitation was stated on the website, it would avoid some disappointments. Apart from that, it was nicely packaged and the delivery was quick.
"Boy, what did I tell you about using that word?".......2007-05-10
This love-story set against the back drop of emerging basketball players might make one think that this is a "black movie" aimed squarely at that audience, which is not. This is one of the tenderest loving stories that I have seen many times. It all has to do with the strong cast. First off is Omar Epps, who has been good since I first noticed him in another sports movie called "The Program" which once more pitted him in NCCA competition but at that time he was a football player. If you haven't seen "The Program" it's one you need to rent. It's one of my favorite football movies. In this film, Omar delivers the edge of a spoiled athlete who has the soul of a boy.
Next has to be the enchanting performance of Sanaa Lathan. Lathan is so real and truthful in this love story. Since the majority of the film focused on her we saw the depth and raw emotion coming from her. She was nothing less than excellent as Monica; her passion for the game, and her passion for Q, was drawn out beautifully. Equally believable as a young woman experiencing her "first time", and a more mature, sensual woman playing "strip basketball", Lathan's all-too-brief love scenes with Epps brought Black Sexuality back to the mainstream movie audience as it hasn't been shown since "Jason's Lyric" back in 1994.
Away from the leads, you have Dennis Haysbert as Epps' father and Alfre Woodard as Lathan's mother. These flawed parental figures were subtle but brilliant performances. Haysbert is a pro basketball player on his way down but living up to his son's perfect image leads to his unraveling. Woodard is always brilliant and here her parental figure believes her daughter resents her stay at home role. Writer/director Gina Prince, was strongest of all. Her performance here is reminiscent of John Singleton's strong entry into feature filmmaking (Boyz In The Hood), but only in the sense that they put out such good works in their rookie year. That, and the fact that both are Black directors, is where the comparison ends; life in Singleton's "Hood" was vastly different than Prince's vision of Hoop Life.
My one big issue was the turning point in Q and Monica's relationship. I had a very hard time believing that the thing which changed their relationship (trying to avoid spoilers here) would've really done so; since they both were in very similar situations, there's no way one of the characters should've been so pigheaded as to huff and puff about...that thing. While not a big enough issue for me to downgrade the movie's rating, it's a flaw that could've been easily addressed by Prince giving the characters a different conflict to stress over. Other than that it's a great movie to watch.
great movie.......2007-02-12
I bought this dvd for my 15 yr. old daughter and she absolutely loves it. It tells a great story and keeps you entertained the whole time. I definitely recommend this for any teenager!-boy or girl.
more than excellent! .......2007-01-28
the movie was shipped within two days and wasnt expected for at least 10days...i am very pleased!!!
Sporty love story.......2006-06-30
I don't get into sports movies very much but this is a good one. You can see the difference in the support for women in sports than men in sports. Good little love story and I LOVE SANAA LATHAN in all her movies, she is a great actress I am looking for her to be nominated for an oscar one day, she tries to pick good roles for herself and by the way the movie "Something New" that she was in is EXCELLENT I watch it over and over and over. The best love story I have seen with a good flow. Any way back to Love and Basketball, I agree with one of the reviewer it is quite detailed and realistic, Sanaa portays her character quite well. This is a wonderful sports movie for anyone.

Classical music and famous artwork might not sound like the most promising recipe for a children's show, but this trio of Little Einsteins episodes makes music and art exciting and accessible to children ages two to seven. Little Einsteins' Leo, Annie, Quincy and June are known for their world-traversing missions, but "How We Became the Little Einsteins" tells the story of how a small rocket ship hanging from Leo's crib mobile initially inspired the group's first mission. Naturally, that mission takes the group around the world, exposing them to the music of Antonin Dvorak and the art of John Singer Sargent, and acquainting them with important musical concepts like high and low and accelerando. "I Love to Conduct" follows a bald eagle with Leo's baton in its clutches to Washington State, exploring the art of Edward Hicks and the music of Edvard Grieg along the way as well as encountering musical terms like crescendo and diminuendo. "Rocket Safari" takes the group to Africa where Rocket gets stuck between the rocks of a waterfall. The gang follows a real "Flight of the Bumblebee" (music by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov), learning about fortissimo and pianissimo, and enlists the help of a host of animals including a rhinoceros by Albrecht Durer to free their friend Rocket. Little Einstein productions effectively blend computer animation and live action photography and always encourage audience participation by inviting young viewers to clap, conduct and sing along. An interactive "Spot It" bonus feature encourages careful listening skills. --Tami Horiuchi

Educational Fun.......2007-06-27
Disney's Little Einsteins is a great buy for the family. It's entertaining enough to sit down and watch with your child, unlike some other children's cartoons. Best of all, the entire series brings many lessons and facts that children will remember and are sure to enjoy as they learn about them. The series will make a wonderful addition to an existing children's movie collection as well as a fantastic gift to parents with young children. Don't wait! Order yours today!
My kids LOVE Little Einsteins!!!!.......2007-06-08
All of this series is wonderful! My children love them and they are educational to boot! Would definitely recommend the entire series.
Simple Stories for someone with autism.......2007-04-21
My three and 1/2 year old son has autism and although he has seen these episodes on TV is really interested in the video. Not only has he learned more animals, it has encouraged him to do things for himself like "buckle your seatbelt!" He is very excited to see it and is comprehending the simple stories - most videos are too complex for him to stay interested. The three different stories are also teaching him to sit through the end of a video, something he struggled with. Also, the cartoon faces are simple and the emotions are easy to read. My friend's son who has autism is still loving them at six. If your child has this condition, I would highly consider these vidoes...they are working at our house!
Disney's Little Einsteins.......2007-03-09
My gandaughter is 2 and she has loved all of the little einsteins series. great kids movies, teaches and entertains.

Amazon.com essential video
Michael Jordan, the greatest player in the history of team sports, gets an appropriate showcase with Ultimate Jordan, a two-disc set that's the most feature-packed sports DVD to date. It includes five programs previously available on VHS--some of the most spectacular footage is on Come Fly with Me (1989), which covers Jordan's youth, college years, and early NBA career. Michael Jordan's Playground (1991) is, as the title suggests, more fanciful, combining highlight footage with a fictional story line and a music video, while Air Time (1993) takes us into the championship and Dream Team years. The more sobering Above and Beyond (1996) covers the death of Jordan's father, his first retirement, and his baseball endeavors, and His Airness (1999) summarizes his career up through the famous final shot against the Utah Jazz. The numerous extra features collect various clips and highlights, but the best section is "Michael's Great 8," which provides 2.5- to 6-minute segments about significant Jordan games, including his 63 points against Boston in the 1986 playoffs and the 1997 "flu game" against Utah. Ultimate Jordan's release in the fall of 2001 coincided with Jordan's not-unexpected return from his second retirement, making it clear that there's another chapter in the Jordan legacy yet to be written. --David Horiuchi

If you have followed Mike throughout his career, A definte must have for your collection.
Jordan...For 3!...YESSSS!.......2007-05-07
For someone who grew up in the Chicago area during the 90's, pairing this with the Chicago Bulls: The 90's is as good as it gets. Not only does this DVD bring back all of the classic videos we bought as kids back in the day, but also puts together loads of highlights, and of course, the best feature which is the full length games. The only complaint that I have is that three of the games on this are also the same on the Bulls DVD set I mentioned above. Otherwise, if you're a Jordan fan (which unless you're a Knicks or Craig Ehlo fan, you are) you need to pick this up.
I SAW MAN FLY.......2007-04-07
Legend, there is some good basketball playerz out there today like king james and kobe but mike took the nba to the next level, lebron you have to be comming with 6 nba championship rings, slam dunk champion, mvps, point scoring champion, etc to even be mention in the same force as air jordan.
Ultimate Jordan.......2007-02-14
Never wanted to buy the separate videos/DVD's. Glad I ordered the complete collection now. I actually felt like a little kid again watching Michael back in the day. Had to be almost surgically removed from the couch in front of the TV.
Michael Jordan, an inspirational role model.......2007-01-15
Michael Jordan is simply awesome. I love the fact that he emerged as the greatest basketball player of all time. Nonetheless, he had to prove himself over the years. Michael not making the high school team just woke up a sleeping giant. This edition is a must buy!!It includes Michael's greatest games, highlights and comments from Michael's teammates and the other players he tortured during his magnificient 14-year career.

Product Description
True story of rodeo legend Lane Frost, a bull-riding champion born to ride. Starring Luke Perry, Stephen Baldwin and Cynthia Geary. Directed by John G. Avildsen
Amazon.com
The title refers to the time required by all rodeo cowboys to stay on a bull if they want a judge's score. For them, such a short time can seem like an eternity. The same is true of the beginning of this true story, a country tale of Lane Frost, a real-life, crowd-pleasing bullrider who rose to rodeo fame in the late '80s. The characters seem so irrepressibly good, so unreal, that the film comes out of the chute without a buck or much of a purpose. But Frost's story, and that of his relationship with his wife, Kellie (Cynthia Geary), eventually gains momentum. Luke Perry is an underrated actor, and he balances an "aw-shucks-ness" with an internal spark that makes that salt-of-the-earth stuff not so salty. When the film is finally over and the end credits show home movies and stills of the real-life Frost, you'll wish the ride was just a little longer. --Keith Simanton
Customer Reviews:
Great movie=one you won't want to miss!.......2007-04-11
This movie is great. Some of the details are inaccurate to the real life story of Lane Frost. I don't know how many times I've seen this movie-probably more than 10.
Lane Frost Rides Again...........2007-03-14
Luke Perry is excellent in this Bio-Pic of Rodeo great, Lane Frost. This is a great film. Stephen Baldwin is a laugh riot as Bull Riding Champion, "Tuff" Heddamen. This is a really well put together film. I really liked it. Nobody can deliver a "feel good" movie like John G. Avildsen (Karate Kid, Rocky)....and this is no exception. You really get a sense of who Lane Frost was, and what the "Rodeo Life" is really like. It will make you laugh, it will make you mad, and it will make you cry. This is a great film that is definetely worth the price of admission. So, saddle up and get ready for a great ride !!! 4 Stars.
Best Little Film You Never Heard Of.......2007-03-04
Long before the PBR became a household word, there were world champion bull riders Lane Frost and Tuff Hedeman. Luke Perry and Stephen Baldwin bring these characters to life.
Based on the true story of Lane Frost, this movie takes a few artistic licenses (adulterous affair, ect) but basically stays true to form. You can't help but like Lane and Tuff, and get caught up in the world of bull riding.
A few swear words and the aforementioned affair should be explained to young viewers before watching but otherwise the movie is ok for kids.
Brought Back Good Memories.......2007-01-20
I went down the road many a night heading to the next rodeo listening to most of these songs. Lane was an exceptional person he had a good heart, Lanes theme says it all.
great story for both men and women, young and old.......2007-01-19
this is an absolutely wonderful movie. its got something for everyone. i love it for the great rodeo scenes and all that revolves around being a cowboy and rodeo life. my girlfriend loved it for the love story. absolutely brilliant movie, great story.

Customer Reviews:
Major League 2.......2007-06-03
It was a pretty good movie and I enjoyed seeing it again, but why were they playing in Baltimore's Camden Yards? Cleveland Municipal was still open, but Jacobs' Field wasn't opened until 1994.
Major League 2.......2006-07-18
Ok. As this movie follows on from the first Major League movie, expect laughs and a couple of new faces. It continues with the same players who end up coming back to play for another season. The "Wild Thing" has gone commercial, is always looking at selling something, you have Roger Dorn who now owns the team and is slowly going bankrupt. The team morale is down and they end up on a losing streak and then the witch comes back and buys the team back again. Watch for the part with the japanese warrior and pedro exchanging the phrase of "losing your marbles". Great movie for those who are interested in a quick laugh while enjoying watching baseball.
The Indians Are Back!.......2006-01-15
The boys from Cleveland are back to prove that last year's team was no fluke in this great sequel film. After winning their divison, the Indians were defeated by the Chicago White Sox in the ALCS. After losing, team owner Rachel Phelps (Margaret Whitton) sold the team to former third baseman Roger Dorn (Corbin Bernsen). Roger then brought in high-priced free agent catcher Jack Parkman (David Keith) to bolster the Indians line up. However, incumbent catcher Jake Taylor (Tom Berenger) is still on the team, along with another catching prospect, Rube Baker (Eric Brushotter). Pedro Cerrano (Dennis Haysbert), Willie Mays Hayes (Omar Epps), and Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn (Charlie Sheen) also return from last year's team, along with manager Lou Brown (James Gammon).
Hayes starred in his own action movie in the off-season, and also tried turning into a power hitter, much to the chagrin of manager Brown. Cerrano discovered Buddhism, and now treats everybody as a friend, even the opposing players during a game. Jake's knees finally got the best of him, but Lou asks him to stay on as a coach. Roger soon finds out that he's in way over his head. He overpaid Rachel for the team, and now he has only enough money left for two months of operations. His first move is to trade Parkman to the hated White Sox for outfielder Isuro Tanaka (Takashi Ishibashi). Tanaka immediately challenges Cerrano, saying he has "no marbles". Roger's second move is to re-sell the team back to Rachel, much to the horror of everyone else! Rick Vaughn has shed his "Wild Thing" image. He and his agent/girlfriend Rebecca Flannery (Alison Doody) have concentrated on getting commercial advertisements and endorsement opportunities. Meanwhile, Rick has lost a lot of the zip off of his once-blazing fastball, and he's now getting hit hard by opposing teams.
Their season starts out rather slowly, just like the previous year, and to make matters worse, Lou Brown suffers a heart attack and is forced to step down as manager. Jake is given the job as manager in Lou's absence, and it falls on his shoulders to mold the team back into winners. Will Jake be able to get the team back on track. Will Rick, Willie, and Pedro re-discover their lost talents?
Many times, sequels fail to live up to the success of the original film, but that is not the case with this excellent movie. Major League 2 is every bit as good as the original. Having everyone except Wesley Snipes back from the first movie helped to make this movie so much fun to watch, and Omar Epps does a fantastic job taking over for Snipes as Willie Mays Hayes. Newcomers David Keith (Parkman), Takashi Ishibashi (Tanaka), and Eric Brushotter (Baker) add new flavor with their new characters, and Bob Uecker returns as the zany Indians announcer Harry Doyle.
I give this movie my highest recommendation. Baseball fans will surely enjoy watching the Indians in their chase to win the World Series.
Not up to the standards of the original.......2005-12-21
While the original film was great and is one of my all-time favcorites, this sequel in no way comes up to the same standards of humor or storyline. In fact, it comes off as a blatant attempt to squeeze a few more dollars off of the original films followers. You don't need to believe me. Try renting it before you put down hard-earned cash on this wannabe...
good to the last drop.......2005-08-31
always somewhat skeptical when it comes to sequels. major league 2 right on target. answers some questions from number one and makes you keep laughing. good, good, good

Amazon.com
It was one of the first signs of the modern era of baseball when New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner took advantage of new free-agency rules to restock his team. One of his acquisitions, outfielder Reggie Jackson, proved himself worthy of his self-label as "the straw that stirs the drink" by powering a record five home runs in the 1977 World Series, breaking a 15-year Yankee championship drought and branding him "Mr. October." The 1977 New York Yankees Collector's Edition set has all six games against the Los Angeles Dodgers, plus the clinching fifth game of the ALCS against the Kansas City Royals (featuring a late Yankee comeback and a brawl between third basemen Graig Nettles and George Brett). Also included are new interviews with a number of the players, including Reggie Jackson, Willie Randolph, Ron Guidry, Lou Piniella, Chris Chambliss, Mickey Rivers, Roy White, Dusty Baker, and Burt Hooton, and some footage of the memorable mid-season squabble between Jackson and manager Billy Martin, plus SleeveStats that print the box score, inning-by-inning summaries, and trivia on each DVD Thinpak case. As a time capsule, it's interesting to watch the players in action--not only future Hall of Famer Jackson (remember how in his three-homer effort in the clinching game, he actually started the Yankees comeback with a base on balls?), pre-Cy Young winner Guidry, and future managers Randolph, Piniella, and Baker. It's also instructive to watch a different era of the game, one that saw Yankees closer Sparky Lyle pitch 3-2/3 innnings for the game 1 win, and umpires who would watch pitches bounce in the dirt without batting an eye, rather than obsessively replacing anything with a hint of a scuff. And even though their team lost, longtime Dodger fans will enjoy watching the squad that boasted four 30-homer hitters, future Hall of Famer Don Sutton, and the record-setting infield of Garvey, Lopes, Russell, and Cey. --David Horiuchi
Customer Reviews:
Forced Widescreen?.......2007-06-17
I've now watched all seven games in this set and I really enjoyed the trip down memory lane. The video quality is acceptable for something 30 years old, and the sound is fine with the exception of a 1 minute gap in the bottom of the fifth of Game 1. Having said that, the fools who produced this set formatted it for widescreen TVs by chopping off the top and bottom of the original 4X3 broadcast. Yeah, it fits a 16X9 TV nicely, but the players have no feet, you can't read the bottom line of the graphics, and you feel like you are watching the game through a tunnel. Why would they do something so stupid when most 16X9 TVs and/or DVD players allow you to adjust the aspect ratio yourself - if you choose to do so???
I really like these old broadcasts on ABC because the picture is pure baseball without all of the worthless information FOX crams on the top of the screen on the more recent sets. But please, if the game wasn't recorded in widescreen don't force it by cutting the original picture!
For those who remember and those who will never forget..........2007-06-04
"Reggie! Reggie! Reggie!"
Those who love baseball or even just like it often have that one era that absolutely defined the game for them; for me, it was, and always will be the 1977 New York Yankees - the time of Thurman Munson (R.I.P.), Bucky Dent, Lou Piniella, Graig Nettles, Billy Martin and my all-time favortie baseball hero (to this day), REGGIE JACKSON!!!
From my perspective and my memories, I recall that in 1977, the eyes of the world seem to momentarily focus on New York City - some crazy mountain climber (can't remember his name) decided to scale one of the twin towers of the World Trade Center and was fined $1.10 for all 110 stories of the building, the Son of Sam serial killer was still at large, NYC nearly tore itself apart during the summer blackout, disco and Studio 54 ruled the night and, oh yeah, Jackson's three (3) legendary home runs during Game 6 of the World Series against the L.A. Dodgers. They would repeat their World Series victory against the Dodgers once again a year later in 1978.
Despite the poor picture quality at time (these TV telecasts are 30 years-old; what more can you expect?), I was in awe of watching my classic baseball heroes take the field again. I had also completely forgotten that when Game 6 ended and the Yankess won it, Reggie had to literally run for his life off of the field in order to avoid being mauled by the joyous fans who swarmed the field.
I'll always remember and I'll never forget!
Worth it for Yankees fans, but picture really annoying.......2007-05-28
As mentioned, the picture in almost every game chops out the bottom part of the on-screen graphics. It is rather frustrating. Game Six of the World Series and Game Five of the ALCS are the best as far as seeing the graphics. Unfortunately, the video quality isn't very good for Game Six and the ALCS game is missing parts of the game. It isn't missing much, but enough so you'll notice. Also, the audio fluctuates during games. Keith Jackson, Tom Seaver, and Howard Cosell handle announcing duties during ABC's broadcast of the World Series. As a nice touch, A&E and MLB Productions placed the local Yankees telecast of the ALCS game on this set. The announcing for that game is handled by Bill White, Frank Messer, and the one and only Phil Rizzuto. Bottom line, this DVD set is a worthy purchase, but you might not want to pay full price.
Great History, Rotten Video.......2007-05-10
This review is based on having viewed Disk One of the set. The DVD starts with a disclaimer saying the quality will not be good but the best available masters have been used. What that means is the bottom of the image is cut off (often making the last line of the player's stats unreadable) and the image is shifted down slightly, leaving a slight black bar at the top of the screen. Yes, my TV is adjusted properly. The MLB logo has also been watermarked into the top right of the image, but that was to be expected after viewing previous MLB releases. The video is fairly grainy, but even more troubling is the complete loss of sound for nearly a minute during the middle of the game. Other notes: This is the ABC broadcast with Howard Cosell and Tom Seaver doing the play-by-play, but without the bumpers, pre-game etc. Bottom line: Definitely worth watching for historical reasons, but you may want to rent before buying.

Over the course of 15 hours on four double-sided DVDs, Chicago Bulls: The 1990s documents the Bulls' incredible run of six NBA championships in eight years led by the game's greatest-ever player, Michael Jordan. Like the earlier DVD release Ultimate Jordan, it collects a number of programs originally released on VHS, in this case the yearly highlight videos that summarized each of the six championship seasons, plus a five-minute introduction that covers the franchise starting in the 1960s and ending with its drafting of Jordan.
Where the NBA Dynasty series (the other initial entry is the slightly meatier Los Angeles Lakers: The Complete History) outdoes Ultimate Jordan is in the six playoff games--one for each year--as they were originally broadcast, minus halftime and commercials. Having the nearly complete game (usually running 90-100 minutes, from the TV introductions to post-game interviews) means you can skip straight to John Paxson's clutch basket or what was expected to be the final shot of Jordan's career. Or you can savor each game in its entirety, all the better to appreciate the artistry of Jordan in his three-pointer barrage against Portland or his "flu game" against Utah. You can see other great players too, of course, including Jordan's teammates--Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, Dennis Rodman--and those opponents unfortunate enough to face the Bulls--Clyde Drexler, Charles Barkley, John Stockton, Karl Malone, and others. Because these are all NBA Finals games, you won't see Jordan's shot over Craig Ehlo or his 63-point coming-out party against Boston, but the 1990s Chicago Bulls were a team for the ages, and merely having their games--some of them all-time classics--available for home viewing is a major milestone in archived sports. --David Horiuchi

If you enjoy basketball, especially with some of the best players to grace the game, you will enjoy these DVD's.
NBA Dynasty Series - Chicago Bulls - The 1990s.......2007-01-29
Bulls dynasty just like I remember it
The Best of The Bulls.......2007-01-28
I suggest this to anybody who is interested in the Era that was the early 90's...When Jordan was in his prime dominating the league and winning 6 NBA Titles. I recommend this to anybody who is a fan of basketball. It is a great buy and includes the bulls best games in their entirety.
Everything is there........2006-08-03
I'm an italian fan of NBA. My favourite team is LA Lakers and I thought there would be no such a period like the 80s with Lakers-Celtics finals!
Well maybe there is: it's the 90s with the Bulls domination and MJ show. The DVD collection is complete and the bonus games are well choosen.
Bulls teams were better than this set.......2006-07-05
First of all, each of the 6 Chicago Bulls championship teams were great teams. The DVDs are perfect for lazy evenings or age-group team barbecues, but I do have two complaints:
1) The games are not in fact "complete" or "as it happened" - significant chunks are cut out of the games, especially 1998 game six. Several minutes are skipped. (On the other hand, I really appreciate the lack of commercials during the time-outs.)
2) These may be Jordan's best games of each series (I'm not even sure about that), but they are not the team's defining games. For instance, from the Lakers series I would have preferred game 2, where the Bulls found the answer to Magic Johnson won their first finals game; from the Blazers series, game 6, where Pippen lead the reserves in a great 4th quarter comeback to win the series. On the other hand, the 1993 (Paxson's 3) and 1998 (Jordan on Russell) selections are spot-on.
Nice set but I'm docking two stars for these issues.

For Red Sox Nation, this boxed set may be a book out of their own personal bible: the tale of their deliverance from decades of wandering through baseball's metaphorical desert. Forget the Pharaohs--the curse of the Bambino had been enough to keep Red Sox fans dying of thirst while their nemeses, the New York Yankees, seemed to waltz right into the Promised Land again and again. And then, finally, after 86 years, the Red Sox are champions, and here's their chronicle: The Boston Red Sox 2004 World Series Collector's Edition DVD boxed set, the first collection of complete, unedited MLB games on DVD.
For the devoted fan, this is your holy grail: all seven games of the incredible American League Championship Series against the Yankees, and the four World Series games against the St. Louis Cardinals. The material is fresh out of the broadcast booth: it's pure footage of the full games, unedited, and complete (minus the commercials), so you don't miss a single pitch. Forget the endless narratives and annoying camera cuts of the average sports highlight DVD; this is nothing but the games.
MLB wisely configured the discs so you can navigate by the half-inning, moving straight to your favorite highlights without sacrificing anything from the game. Watch only the at-bats you want and set up your own personal highlight reel out of the moments you choose. Going one better than TiVO, the boxed set also includes a generously packed bonus disc, featuring the 2004 World Series Film, narrated by Denis Leary, as well as 13 other extra features including footage of the post-victory celebrations and the 2005 Ring & Banner Ceremony. Even the packaging is custom-made for fans, featuring "SleeveStats" that contain complete inning-by-inning line scores, detailed box scores, team trivia, and much more at a glance on the DVD cover. It's like a baseball card on steroids. For baseball fans, this is the complete package and then some. --Dan Vancini

Solace during the next 86-year drought; and not just the Series!.......2007-06-14
There are roughly 3 million people in the metropolitan Boston area. Maybe 80% of them are Red Sox fans, so there are 2.4 million or so of us, along with untold but probably similar numbers elsewhere across North America. (Go to a Red Sox game far from Boston and you'll see almost as many Red Sox fans as there are fans for the local team -- as long as you're not in Yankee Stadium.)
If you're a member of the aptly-named Red Sox Nation, this DVD set is for you, because it's NOT just the 2004 World Series. It's everything you really want, which probably doesn't incude the four-game sweep of the Cardinals at all. It wisely includes the whole seven game series against the Yankees, and that's certainly why I bought it.
True citizens of Red Sox Nation hate the Yankees in exact proportion to their love for the Red Sox. So even though I saw Game 5 in person and the watched rest on TV, and even though I missed seeing the last two games of the World Series due to a business trip to Italy, it's the Yankees games that I love to watch.
The video quality is so-so. The 12- and 14-inning games between the Sox and the Yankees are so long that they wouldn't fit on a single DVD without a lot of compression. But hey, who cares? The nail-biting is all there, and it's still fun to watch and wait for the thrilling endings you know are coming.
I don't own many movie DVDs, and I don't own any other sports DVDs. But this set is special if you're a Red Sox fan, or if you love to see the underdog triumph, or if you love to hate the New York Yankees. Buy it now, and watch it every year until the Red Sox win the Series again, in 2090.
The best endorsement around.......2007-01-24
I gave this to my sister as a gift for her 50th birthday. We are Boston born and raised though I now live in VT, and we have been "genetic" Red Sox fans since birth for better or worse. Here's what she emailed to me when it arrived today:
"Scott and I were in a sports bar last night watching one of those cable stations that rerun old baseball games, usually pretty ordinary ones, and I was saying that there weren't many whole games that I would sit and watch again. Well, now I have the only ones that I would."
red sox 2004 world series.......2007-01-11
the quality of the Cd is poor- skips and stops are common
Worth every penny!.......2007-01-04
We had looked at many 'World Series' boxed sets and really like this one as it included the ALCS series with the Yankees as well as the World Series. There are alot of extras (each DVD has the box score on the back, along with trivia and highlights on the front) along with being able to select the top or bottom of innings to watch. It's like winning all over again. A MUST for every Red Sox fan!
A Piece of History.......2006-12-20
This was the most thrilling event in recent sports history, and that is all. You will not get loads of extras, just the games. It is true that the picture and sound quality are little below par, but is that really why you are considering purchasing this collection? The DVD's are worth having for watching and rewatching the exemplary performances of Pedro Martinez and Derek Lowe, and for the heroics of Kurt Schilling. If you want to relive these historic games than by all means do not allow anything to stand between you and this DVD set.

Amazon.com essential video
You don't need to know anything about hockey to be moved by this hourlong documentary about one of the greatest upsets in sports history: the United States' defeat of the vaunted Russian Olympic hockey team at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. The film recounts the David vs. Goliath matchup between the Americans (essentially a group of college kids molded into a team by coach Herb Brooks, also the U.S. hockey coach in the 2002 Olympic games) and the Russians, professionals who had won four straight Olympic golds. The story is retold in interviews with the people who lived it, including Brooks and several of the American players, sportscaster Al Michaels (who uttered the title line as the game ended), and key Russian players. Do You Believe in Miracles? is a solid blend of sports and history that focuses on the human element in one of the great underdog victories of all time. --Marshall Fine

The Miracle.......2007-05-14
this is a great documentary of the 180 US team. the insight was invaluable. It was wonderful to relive this great moment in American sports.
Thanks for the memories!.......2007-05-04
A beautifully done documentary in honor of what had to be one of the greatest sports moments in US history. The Al Michaels yelp "Do you believe in miracles?" still brings tears to my eyes so many years later. The documentary is fleshed out with insightful interviews, and it is just as nice to see that victory in 2007 as it was in 1980.
A Slice of Americana.......2007-01-20
Every American should own a copy of "Do You Believe in Miracles?"
Patriotism is what this movie is all about!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Real Story of "Miracle of Ice".......2006-09-07
For those of you who saw the movie, Miracle, this is a great follow up with the real players and coaches. It covers every game the USA hockey played to win the gold medal. As Al Michals says in the film, "Everyone forgets that the US team had to win one more game after beating the Russians." With interviews with the players from both teams, you really get a sense of how much impact there was from a hockey game.
Great Documentary, but I need the whole game.......2006-08-01
This was probably the greatest sports upset ever (at least American). No need to rehash what others have said, except for I want this game, the gold medal final, and medal ceremony on DVD. Every anniversary I check to see if it came out. The 20th and 25th anniversaries have past, and I'm not sure it's ever going to come out. This game brings a tear to my eye, because it was so amazing. It shows the true passion of sports.
